Q: Let's see if you techies can solve this "simple" reformat problem...

Hello! in dire need of some tech support. So here's the background... I was given a Toshiba Satellite A135 running on Windows 7. I got a virus and tried to DIY reformat. I DO NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL WINDOW 7 CD and was only given a "burnt copy of windows 7" by a friend.. So i searched online, especially utube, searching for how to reformat WITHOUT a cd and decided to follow what this guy said ()... The only FILES i backed up were my movies, music, word docs, and pdf's. So anything "driver" related i didn't back up.

i did the whole f8 thing WITH my friends burnt cd inserted (i dont know if that makes a difference). If you view the utube video, i got to around 2:10 and deleted EVERYTHING. First of all there were 3 disk partion options to select instead of just one like in the video. So i deleted all three because i assumed all 3 were infected. Either way it did not let me progress and i forgot what it said, but it gave me an error window stating something about a missing screen image.

So i restarted the whole thing and just like at 1:48 my laptop gave me the option to choose the OS i'd like to install. From a loooooooong list i just chose the first which is windows 7 Homebasic Activated. I click next, accept the license terms and just like in the utube video at 2:07 i choose custom (advanced). Now those 3 partitions have reappeared. So i chose "reformat" for all 3 (the last partition doesn't allow me to choose any option). So after clicking reformat for the top two, i highlight the partition that i think said "primary" and click next. At the installing screen copying files were completed, but the next step stops and said "windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installaion. Error code: 0x80070017".... Considering my situation and my lack of funds to replace the windows 7 cd, can anybody help me reformat my laptop? any help is greatly appreciated! Oh and sorry if this is in the wrong "topic" section... i jsut didn't know where specifically to post this...

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The problem I have is that whenever I start the computer, I get a window that pops up that is titled "Comcast Reboot Helper" with a MPC symbol in the left corner. The message in the dialogue box says "Please wait while the installation continues. If you have removed the CD, re-insert it now.

I have run Hijack this, spybot, and security task manager and could find no reference to it. I have also looked in boot.ini and startup under msconfig and could not find anything.

Here's the situation: I was about to back up my files by transferring them to an external hard drive and was in Documents for that purpose, when I did something that triggered a 'spinning circle' (called a Throbber I believe). I waited for a few minutes but the throbber continued to be there, and the computer continued to do whatever it was doing, so I closed the Windows File Explorer, hoping to start fresh without a throbber. But when I opened the new Windows Explorer the spinning circle was still there and instead of being there for a few seconds--as the green line went left to right across the top and then presenting Documents, Downloads, Music, Videos, etc. when the green line completed its journey, with the spinning circle disappearing as it always does at that point-- the throbber remained, as the green line went 99% of the way across and then stopped.

My initial reaction was to give it as much time as it needed, especially since the words 'This folder is empty' were there, which is always the case when I first open the Windows Explorer for the day, but 'This folder is empty' normally disappears after a few seconds along with the spinning circle, but this time, because it was not completing the process for some reason, the spinning circle remained. I decided to give it more time, but now 'giving it more time' is obviously not enough since that was 20 hours ago! The green line is still there, 99% of the way to complet... Read more

A:another simple problem i cant seem to solve

My guess is most likely just have "Cox" branding of IE but it's still IE. Check here in the registry and see what you find.

Start Regedit and navigate to

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

Delete the keys for "BrandBitmap" and "SmBrandBitmap"

Then restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.

Hello fellow!

I am new to these forums, and have decided to give them a question of my own.

I have a network of PCs of 100+ computers, and have a single file that I need to place on every computer. They all have a single folder shared, which is named exactly the same as the next, so my question is this:

Is there a command that I could use to copy a file from my computer to the folder on each of the Computers on my network, without having to type the command 100+ times?

In a simple way, I am asking this -- Is it possible to do this:

copy "c:\something.bat" "\\*\c:\shared folder\something.bat"

I am sure that we have all had a bit of command line experience, so this command should be pretty easy to understand.

I've been looking all around the internet for 2 months for my answer, yet I haven't been able to do this. It seems simple to me. Why can't I find an answer for this question...

How do you re-format the C drive?

It seems at least simple to me. That's all I want to so. I have two paritions, C and D. C is my system partition, and install Windows XP Pro on it. That's all. In XP setup, it will not let me format it, so to me in theory, I'm at a dead end. So I've installed XP on the C drive three times, all in the same folder, and now it has taken up 10 GB (why?) of space when it only should take no more than 4.

OK I have a massive problem and I think I have narrowed it down into a catagory but I dont know HOW something like this can even happen... Anyways...

We have 2 computers networked via a 4 port cable/dsl router, it has worked fine for about 2 months, nothing has been changed on the router nor the cable modem, I got home and started to play a game (For spec purposes, it was the game NoX), anyways, i joined my friends game, and before I could do anything I had no control (like I had disconnected), HOWEVER... He was still moving around, and we had yahoo voice chat open, so I could hear him talking, and even told him I was lagging, but for some reason I watched him kill me (LAG FREE) and they it disconnected me, I couldn't recieve any information from westwood (to get to the servers to rejoin) for about 30 seconds (as if it was dead)...

Now, after doing this SEVERAL TIMES over a 10 minute period, I tried to play command and conquer generals... same thing...so I tried surfing the web.... it went fine, until I tried to keep using the same site (example, yahoo), I kept searching yahoo, all of a sudden no responce, YET I could chat and still hear my friend in voice (note I havn't said i havn't talked back to him yet)... So I hooked up the mic, since at the time suddenly he told me he couldnt' see my text and kept sayin hello and buzzing me (VERY annoyingly) so i got on the mic and talked, after about a min, of tryin to get that page to refresh and talkin to him, ... A:SERIOUS PROBLEM! Techies can't figure it out over phone support....

Did you try plugging the cable modem into another cable outlet in your place? Sometimes the lines in your house can be messed up. Do you have any splitters installed? If so, remove them and try plugging the cable modem directly into the wall. If its plugged into the wall now, then try removing any other devices (tvs, etc) that use your cable line, and then try it again.

Otherwise, although pretty unlikely, you may have a bad cable modem.

Basically a guy from the cable company is going to have to come and test your lines and try a new modem to see if that helps - there doesn't seem to be much of anything else left to try!!

Right, here you go guys! Firstly, what the hell is the program "djebws400.exe" because it is causing me so much grief and I can;t find anyting about it anywhere on the internet.

At first I kept getting an error on startup saying it could not be found in my "local settings\temp" folder. I deleted all traces of it I could find, and stopped it throwing up the error message. However, whenever I go to update a driver it throws up the error and my driver installation screws up, so I end up with screwed up hardware in Windows.

My system in Windows XP SP2 with all current updates installed. I have undone any tweaks I have made to my system, and run spyware and virus scans and elimated any unwanted crap they found, yet still no change.

I have also tried re-installed any programming environments and debuggers thinking maybe they had done something, but again that had no effect. I have also run the Windows system file checker to check system files were intact, and run the signature verifaction wizard which only found unsigned drivers from nVidia which were downloaded from their website. Booting into safe mode does not work, and booting up with just required system files does not solve the issue either.

Short of doing a system repair from therecovery console (which I don't want to do unless I have to because of the hasstle of restoring software/registry entries etc) I don't know what else to do.

Any ideas anyone because my system is getting more and mor... Read more

This is for any any tech reading this. These are the tell tale signs of the peper.a trojan. which is a particularly difficult one to remove.

These 2 processes will morph their file size and filenames on every re-boot or H/T scan to keep from being deleted or spotted.....So dont note down the name, they always sit side by side in the running processes in the bottom third(Those of you who dont check the rp`s better start)
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Rcij.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Szw2E5.exe

The same with this one.....The only constant is
the" [2LRX2W83X2T3MQ]"Obviously its random and different for every infection but its a dead givaway.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2LRX2W83X2T3MQ] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Vju9.exe

All three are always found on the infected machine.....easy to spot but hard to remove.
We spent a couple of days banging or heads againt the wall getting rid of this baby but the best way and only real efficient way is to download TDS-3 from http://www.wilders.org/anti_trojans.htm
and update it following the instructions here:
http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=update
JUST A NOTE...IF THE POSTER ALREADY HAS AN A/V PROGRAM HE SHOULD DISABLE IT BEFORE RUNNING THE ABOVE!

Then enable the real-time protection and run a full system scan.

Just thought I would give you the heads up on this one.

Thanx

Respected computer techies and dear friends,

I am confronted with a baffling problem and it appears that only a computer guru can solve it with his knowledge, expereience and skills.

Here goes the problem:

I have one SATA seagate HDD 160 GB having three partitions C; D and E.

Basically this HDD has ONLY SAP installed on it...an ERP package which uses Oracle database.

Out of 160 GB HDD space; only 60 GB is being used by SAP program.

I WANT TO CREATE DRIVE IMAGE OR AN EXACT COPY OF THE ABOVE IN ANOTHER HARD DISK of 80 GB.

I know that I can crearte drive image with 160 GB of another HDD.

BUT my q is that is there any way in which i can create an exact copy of SAP system which has occupied 60 GB out of 160 GB ON
ANOTHER HDD of 80 GB....?????????????????????????????

I know this is a very complicated question but then i would love to hear the opinion of the techies; geeks and nerds...

ALSO the person whose solution will be finally accepted will be rewarded with a $ 25 transfer from my paypal account to his account. OK, let me get this straight, you have a 160GB HDD which is divided into three partitions.... one of which has this SAP system on a 60GB partition. You want to transfer this 60GB partition onto an 80GB drive? Also, I'm assuming you want the new drive to have a single partition of 80GB, rather than a 60GB partition of the old system and 20GB free.

I know that Acronis True Image can do this... it's similar to Norton's Ghost, but in my opinion works just that little bit better. Here's a link to their website where you can download documentation and buy the product online. You can either choose to download the product straight, or (I think) for a small surcharge get a CD sent through the mail to you.

After having re-read your post, I think I could have confused myself over this - is SAP taking up all three partitions, but is only actually using 60GB total? If so, then True Image should be able to do this also, allowing you to reduce the partition size before the re-image operation occurs. To confirm this, I suggest you email their pre-sales team at:

Acronis hard copy utility can help you. With this program you can create the image of the partition which contains just the SAP system. I think you can make such partition by yourself; otherwise I need more information about your partitions on 160 GB disk. By the way True Image will compress the partition and its size will be less then 60 GB.

Ok here is my issue.. I just got a new video card, well , at xmas anyways. Its an eVGA GeForce FX 5500 256mb. I used to have a Radeon 9250 128mb. So when i installed the card, i used Driver cleaner in safemode to get rid of everything ATI, and then i installed the correct drivers for the new video card, so now whenever i play a video in Media player, it plays for about 2 seconds, and then all of a sudden the window gets painted green and i can hear sound, but no video and it kinda locks up.. hard to explain but when i try to close media player after this has happend, it take a few seconds for it to acually close. But when i play a move in DivX player, it works fine, more often then not anyways. So what i did to try to correct it was installed the "ACE mega CoDeCs Pack" to try to resolve it. It allowed me to play movies in DivX player without any issues (so far) but i still cant in media player. The only thing i havent tried is reinstalling media player.

Any input on this would rule cause its really pissing me off. nome sain

After exhausting all know variables, I have come to the conclusion that my monitor (which is rather old especially by monitor standards) cannot function in 640x480 anymore. If I use this setting, the screen will shift to right about half way across the screen and wrap around to left side. Sometimes, if I scroll the horizontal dial on the monitor, it will jump back into place, but only briefly.

I know it's dangerous to start probing around inside a monitor, but if there is a simple turnscrew adjustment or something else rather simple that will give me that resolution back, I'd be most appreciative. I'm sure most of you will say "Ditch it and buy a new one". Only I can't afford one at the moment as sad as that sounds. Besides that, I am curious to know if there is a fix to this or not.

I work for a company that fixes laptops and computers, sometimes we run into issues where we could do with a Windows (XP,Vista,7,8,8.1) OEM disc...for example when factory restore partitions dont work or other issue..

will ANY OEM disc work on any system as long as the Windows version (and 32/64 bit) is matched and the COA stickers code entered on the under-side of laptop? if so, could I download these OEM versions and burn them to disk? do Microsoft offer downloads of these images?

one of the services we offer is "install of software"...we've had a few people want windows 7/8 upgrades/downgrades but we've had to refuse because we don't sell windows in the shop? but couldn't we sell them the license and use an OEM disc for the install? or install the OS on the advice the customer activates it and give them the price (and instructions) before they take out the upgrade with us?

any advice would be great

Any OEM of the same version of Win 7 is identical. == How can you sell them a license when you don't have any to sell? If you install an OS for the customer, how is he going to get the license? I know I won't go into a shop and have them install an OS and have to leave and worry about finding a license somewhere else. Not a good deal. == I think you better stick to "computer repair".

Rather than send you to the shop to buy books, go to any website that has the function you are looking for. In Firefox e.g. click on View/Page source and you can see how it is done. Just copy/paste the relevant coding out of that 'view' into your own code.

I'm looking to upgrade my computer (phase 2 of an overall upgrade)...I've recently upped to an Ahtlon64 3200+ and GA-K8NS motherboard...my exisiting ram module is a PC2100 512 Crucial stick...I will take that out and put it in another pc when I ugprade ... but my question is:

Is it worth purchasing the WD Raptor 36 gig (to be used as the primary HD windows and progs, with a 160 gig secondary for music etc...) ? I will be buying 1 gig of Corsair Value Select PC3200 DDR400 by default, but should I go for even more RAM than this and scrap the Raptor idea...?

Spec:

Athlon64 3200
Radeon 9700 Pro
Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro

The computer is used for a variety of tasks, small photo editing, video and encoding tasks, gaming (regularly the likes of Far Cry...and soon frequent HL2, Doom3, Sims2, SH4 etc..) and quite frequent sequencing and composition with Cubase SX2 and Reason...I know this is a broad range of tasks so basically would I benefit more (in terms of raw performance , loading textures, loading samples, etc.. without games buffering during play and frame rate stutters etc..) from 1gig + 512 ram...or just 1 gig of ram and a WD Raptor?

p.s I will be saving up for a few months to buy a top end graphics card, so this isn't considered at the mo...thats phase 3

Thanks very much for reading!

A:Upgrade Question For Techies Regarding Raptor / RAM

I personally would forgo the Raptor for more RAM, the hard disk will affect loading times but once loaded (a one off operation) it's the RAM you need so Windows doesn't have to rely on the swapfile. Just my opinion, gamers may have a diferent opinion. Enjoy your shiny new upgrades!

As of a couple of days ago the peper uninstaller is no longer removing the peper trojan. The current variant looks the same as all the previous ones. For anyone that does not know how to identify peper, here are the entries as they will appear in a Hijack This log:

There will be two files in the running processes that have random file names like these:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\tdm7z.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vfdm2u.exe

The O4 entry will look like this:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [47MSJ2W3J7PQJE] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Bin9.exe

This part of the O4 entry is random as well ....[47MSJ2W3J7PQJE]. The only consistent part is that it will always be 14 random characters. The file name in the O4 entry is random as well.

There is another unidentified adware/spyware that will create a run entry that looks like peper. It has the same 14 random characters in the O4 entry, but does not have the two random files in the running processes. If you see that, it is not peper. It can easily be removed by fixing the O4 with HJT and subsequently deleting the associated file in safe mode.
Here is my current method of removal. It is much like the last method we were using before just slightly different:

First download and run This uninstaller:

http://experts.spywareinfo.com/pieter/uninst.exe

*Note: Just click on the uninst.exe and let it run. When it is finished it will just close. There will be no dialogue. Also you must be connected to the internet for the uninstaller to be effective.
Next, use the following... Read more

For around half a year I've been battling my issue with Cyberlink DVD. It all started back in the fall when I upgraded from Vista 64bit to Windows 7 professional 64bit via MSDN. At this point I had Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 Ultra. I was playing Blu-Rays with no problems and enjoying them on my connected TV. After the upgrade, my luck had run out and it refused to play them. Each time I started PowerDVD, it asked me for a region code (A,B,C) but also said the number of changes allowable was at 0. I would click A and then click ok, yet it wouldn't save the changes. It proceeded to be stuck with no region code. After weeks of talks with Cyberlink, they ultimately gave me PowerDVD 9 BD-OEM version and asked me if that solved the problem. The problem persisted. Over the many talks, I had changed my registry keys, deleted files which would reset my region code changes to 5, and many many more things. I'll attach the conversation but delete out the parts that describe the ways to reset the code.

ME:
First of all, your site has my PowerDVD 8 as a trial when I have had Ultra for a long time when I purchased it from NewEgg. Second, ever since I changed to Windows 7, my region code is set at 0 and not selected on any region. It won't let me play any Blu-Ray movies. Please get back to me asap. Thanks.

Edit: I've attached the serial number of my PowerDVD 8 Ultra as requested. Thanks.

I’m working with the new MPlayer2.exe under windows in slave mode. I really need a solution for this seeking problem in MPlayer2, when seeking in MPEG1 program stream files.

I want to do a precise seek in a MPEG1 program stream files(m2v video with mp2 audio), using the new MPlayer2.exe precise seek command, seek <value> [type] [hr-seek].

The way I used the command is,
seek <value> [type] [hr-seek]
type = 2 is a seek to an absolute position of <value> seconds.
hr-seek = 1 means force precise seek if possible.
In my C code I gave the command with the <value> for the time position as a double, calculated for the required frame. ("seek %f 2 1", fTime).
Eg- ‘seek 4.28 2 1’

This works for MPEG2 program stream files(m2v video with mp2 audio), and other types like .AVI.
But for MPEG1 program stream files it jumps only to the key frames and not to the exact frame as expected.

I have uploaded MPEG1 program stream sample files at,
http://uploading.com/files/46f51fcc/Mpeg1_mid.mpg/
http://uploading.com/files/aeda943b/Mpeg1_small.mpg/

When I asked about this from Mplayer2 support team, they told me that , “When explicitly
specifying --demuxer=lavf the libavformat demuxer is successfully
opened, but it then fails to do time-based seeking properly with this
file (the only position it successfully seeks to is the beginning).”

When I asked further, Mplayer2 replied me a... Read more

Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - Error performing inpage operation.

A:how to solve this problem

You user name profile has become corrupted. Usually when this happens, Windows loads a Default user profile. You will be missing your personal files and icons on the desktop.
Go to Start/Run and type control userpasswords and press enter. Create a new user with Admin rights. Log out of the temp user account you are in and log in as the new user account you created . Now go to C:\Documents and Settings Open up your old user profile name folder. Here, Copy the Desktop, Favorites, My Documents and Start Menu folders and Paste them into your new profile folder overwriting the empty ones.
