I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,I have a Thinkpad P50 equiped with a fingerprint reader.Worked perfectly well for months, but suddently stopped working.I verified/updated drivers, but this was not the problem.I then had the bad idea of changing the BIOS security option to enable the pre-POST fingerprint option. Now I end-up with a system that keeps rebooting forever preventing me to access the BIOS configuration.(I guess that after pressing F1 for entering BIOS, it expects me to scan my finger, but doesn't find the reader, so reboots again and again.)Please HELPThank you!!

I've had a really hard time using the fingerprint reader. I've set it up multiple times and entered my fingerprint multiple times in hopes that it'll function better but after 3 times it asks me for the PIN. This is what I want to avoid. One of the reasons I bought the X1 was because of the fingerprint reader. I need it to work as intended and as quickly as a phone. Do I need to forcefully press my finger on the reader? Hi, after the change from Windows 8 to Windos 10 I had no problems including the fingerprint reader. Everythink runs fine but with the installation of the latest updates from windows (now there is a new look of some windows) my fingerprint reader doesn't work. I was looking around for some solutions but until now I has not been succesful. The fingerprint software ThinkVantage was also not running. I did all updates from the Lenovo suite but also not successful. Finally I wanted to use Windows Hello to operate the fingerprint reader but Windows Hello is not available on my Laptop ... In system settings there was a note that device has been migrated and an installation is required but I haven't still found where and what. I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad X230 with Windows 10/64 (dual boot with Ubuntu), the fingerprinter is described as Authen Tec. Is somebody out there with the same problem and hopefully with a practicable plan or link to fix it? CheersPeter

I recently purchased an X1 carbon 1st Gen running windows 10 and I can't find a way to get the fingerprint reader to work. It may not be possible but I thought I would see if anyone here has found a solution. Apparently there is a solution for the type 20AF but I can't find a solution or an updated driver for the Type 3460. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. I have updated my Bios and many of my other drivers. I have tried downloading the Synaptic Metallic drivers as well And I tried updating my AthenTec Driver for the fingerprint reader but it still doesn't work.

(Driver Version - 4.5.507.0)- I created PIN for Windows Hello. However, whenever I try to setup Fingerprint using Windows Hello I keep getting an error. Click on Setup under Fingerprint > SuccessClick on Get Started > SuccessEnter the PIN > SuccessScan my finger on the finger print scannet > Error: Sorry, something went wrong. Close Windows Hello, and then try going through the setup again. I have tried the above steps many times and still facing the same issue.

Hi

I don't have that Thinkpad model, but for what I remember in some other model the Fingerprint reader was internally connected to an USB port.

You can check some programs like HWInfo and check where is the fingerprint reader plugged to see if Windows recognize there is a deviced plugged on it. It can also be interesting for you to grab the hardwareID to know the manufacturer of it.

Which Windows version are you using?
There is also some fingerprint drivers on the Yoga 260 support site for Win10 and Win7.
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

Maybe you can also give it a try.

The FP reader does not work on my T450s under Windows 10, even though the drivers "Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017)" are installed correctly.I can get into the Windows Hello Fingerprint Setup (snapshot below) but the FP reader doesn't do a thing.Following the steps suggested in Fingerprint-support-on-Windows-10-ThinkPad-T440-and-newer does not change anything. The notebook is brandnew and I didn't have Win 7 or 8 on it before for testing the FP reader, but the driver installed without any issues -- so I guess it's not a hardware problem. I'm happy for any suggestion.

Maybe windows blocked the driver or something i don't know. I've deinstalled the fingerprint software AND the driver in device manager. reboot, and installed all again. nothing.. how can this be?

I used to logg in via fingerprint reader (windows 10) without any problems, now the fingerprint reader doesn't react any longer when I draw the finger. I somehow managed to delete all passwords in the password manager (not even sure about this as I actually don't understand how all the components work together) hoping that this would solve the problem. Not the fingerprint reader software keeps asking me to register a new finger. Everything seems to work out fine (I can choose a finger to be registered, type in my windowns password) untill I'm being asked to draw the finger over the fingerprint reader: Nothing happens! The indicator which shows how much of the finger has been scanned doesn't show anything at all. Looks like the software works, but the fingerprint reader itself is dead. However, looking into the system information the 'TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor' (WBF advanced mode) seems to work correct. Please help. I have not a clue how to find out what goes wrong here.

My laptop recently got a fresh installation of W10x64 and with a little help everything went well.   https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Drivers-missing-for-HP-EliteBoo... "Well." Except the Validity Fingerprint reader (Validity Sensor VFS471, hardware ID USB\VID_138A&PID_003C&REV_0086). Since HP doesn't care about the support of their flaships after few years, there is no driver for this laptop designed for W10. Every driver I tried (picture below) was either ignored by Windows Hello (the reader wasn't recognized) or the Hello started, but the fingerprint texture in dialog box just flashed and didn't accept my finger. Current HP Client Security ignored each of them.                 How to sort it out? HP? Anyone? Thank you.

Hey guys and gals, The sensor had been hit or miss from day one, when it worked it would sometimes take 3 presses before registering correctly. I've been using these kinds of sensors for years on my phones so I was suprised at how much effort it took to get it to work. It often wasn't avaliable to me when the laptop came out of sleep mode, or if the screen had been locked.  One day last month it stopped working completely. It isn't being detected at all in the device manager, unless it's under a differnt name now. I tried restoring from factory and seeing if I could get it back. After running all the Windows, driver, and firmware updates, it's still not present in the device manager. I went in the BIOS and checked to see that the fingerprint sensor was enabled. It was, and then I tried to delete any fingerprint data, but there wasn't any. So I'm wondering, has anyone else has had a similar issue and if there's a way I can fix this without having to RMA my otherwise kickass laptop?  Maybe the senseor is loose? Should I open her up and make sure everything's tight? I haven't unbuckled any of her fasteners yet, but if it could save me a month of being computerless while she's in the shop, I'll gladly try it.   Cheers

I've been eyeing this laptop for a while, and was disappointed to hear that things that I have seen work out of the box for years with Linux are broken on this laptop. Namely the touchpad. This only seems to be the case on the 15in model. The 13in is reported to work fine. It's unfortunate the Lenovo fails to realize that people who spend 2k on a laptop tend to be computer enthusiasts, many of whom run Linux.  I can amost guarentee the amount of RMAs they are going to get from this are going to cost more than the few hours it would take 1 or 2 developers to write a touchpad driver for Linux. This is the only convertable on the market with a good GPU so I might still get it and try to either write a driver or get it working through some other means. Has anyone else had any luck with the touchpad or the fingerprint reader on Linux?

I have been searching for hoursfor a solution to this problem. If you are facing problems with Cardreaders after Windows 10 Upgrade like SD cards are not recognized, or it is just indicating "local Disk" or in german "lokaler Datenträger"  in Explorer and you cannot access whatever SD/MMC/CF cards you are trying. ACRONIS is the Problem !!!! We are using Acronis for all our customers. So just uninstall Acronis reboot and reinstall it. The Cardreader Problem is gone and everything will work fine.... Hope this helps some folks because it nearly made memad.....

Hello all, I hope you are doing well I purchased my T460P slightly over a year ago. When it arrived, the fingerprint sensor worked perfectly fine. Then I did a reset of Windows 10 and found that the sensor would not work. I got a error Code 10 in device manager. Some research unearthed the fact that this was a known issue when resetting Windows 10 and the only solution was a clean install. Today, after finding the time to backup all my files, I finally did do my clean install of Windows 10. However, I run into the same issue. After installing all drivers and getting everything to work fine, the fingerprint sensor still shows a yellow exclamation mark in device manager and the error: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I made sure to format my hard drive when installing and did a complete clean install with no leftover data from my previous install. I downloaded the latest driver from the support page and have also updated BIOS to the latest version (as of November 1 2017). I'm not quite sure what to do next. I know there is no hardware issue as the sensor was working fine and it was the initial reset that caused it to stop working. The laptop has been taken care of well and has had no falls or knocks. I would appreciate any input and thank you for your time in advance

Hello all, I have an issue with my Thinkpad W510. Immediatly after installing a fresh windows 10 onto the computer (in order to sell, the laptop already had windows 10/fedora dual booting and everything was fine.) the screen resolution became wacky. Upon booting the screen is repeated 4 times going vertically down the screen. Once booted into the OS there is a split about 2/3 down the screen and the top half of the screen is repeated on the bottom 1/3. Colors are also very dull. I updated windows 10 fully, installed the latest nvidia driver, and rebooted, no results. I then rolled back to windows 8 which is what i got the computer with, updated, updated drivers, and still have no option other than 1024x768 resolution. And the screen is still repeating itself. I have also taken the computer apart, dusted, made sure the video connectors were seated. Put back together and problem persists. However, when plugging in a display via VGA it displays fine. Is this an issue within identifying the display on the latop? Or more likely a coincidence that the fresh install of windows happened along side a hardware failure of the screen/video cable. I'm pretty stuck right now and was really needing to get this sold. Any help is appreciated thank you!

I have a T460s on a fresh install of Win10. I just bought an external USB fingerprint reader https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-PQI-Matching-Biometric-Security/dp/B06XG4MHFJ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&....My hope was that when my laptop was docked (on a ThinkPad Pro dock), I could plug it into a USB port on my external keyboard and login using it. For the time being, I'm just trying to get it working with the laptop undocked (i.e. forget about external keyboards, USB hubs etc.). Starting from scratch (i.e. fingerprints cleared in both Windows and the BIOS, and the external USB NOT plugged in), I setup the internal fingerprint reader, add prints, and am able login with no problem. When I plug in the external reader, drivers install just fine.  I enrolled a different finger, and was able to login just fine. However, when I unplug the external USB reader, I am never able to get the internal reader working again.  With the external unplugged and after a full restart, the internal will still not let me log in: the fingerprint option doesn?t even show up at the Windows login screen. The only way I can get the internal working again is by plugging the external in again (so that it appears in Device Manager), uninstalling both fingerprint devices (just uninstalling the external USB does not work), restarting the computer, and reenrolling my fingerprint using the internal. I know there is an option in the BIOS to just use the internal re... Hi guys,I might soon be purchasing a used W510 and am debating whether to freshly install Windows 7 on it or Windows 10 (I have licenses for both via MSDN). I know that Windows 7 is officially supported while Windows 10 is not.Ideally I would like to install Windows 10 but if things like the Fn hotkeys, etc... won't work on it due to no drivers, I don't want to waste a license on it and would rather then just install Windows 7. Googling around and looking on this forum seems to give mixed results - some say it works great and some say nothing works without drivers. Now that Windows 10 has been out for a while, can someone please share recent experiences with using Windows 10 on a W510? I would think things like Wifi and Bluetooth would work but the Fn hotkeys, volume buttons, and on screen display are important for me too.
