Lenovo Yoga 3-1470 will not power on from shut down or sleep mode

Q: Lenovo Yoga 3-1470 will not power on from shut down or sleep mode

I bought my laptop in 2015 and unwarranted, I'd like some help to get full functionality back into my laptop. While the subject states my problem, I do have some ways of getting use out of the computer:It can turn on if the battery is fully drained and after the computer is plugged in; it takes 8 days to drain. [Pressing and holding the power button only results in the PC flashing its backlit keyboard.] The battery can recharge and the PC can run on battery just as long the PC does not shut down, go to sleep, or the lid closes.Battery removal with the PC plugged in: the PC can always turn on, but when closing the lid or shutting it off, the power cord has to be unplugged and plugged back in.Additional computer information:-Windows 8.1 with updates-Installed BIOS update and Windows hotfix update from Lenovo.com

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I've updated all the drivers, per technical support's advice. I'm losing 1-5% per day when shut down and 5-10% per day in sleep mode on my new Yoga 920. Is anyone else having this problem? Do tech support read these forums?

Hi amote,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.

Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.

Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

Hello, I would like to preface this by saying that I have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out myself and I would greatly appreciate your help. My laptop is a Lenovo Yoga (Machine Type Model 20CDX00) that has problems with shutting down and sleeping sometimes. The problem started after I restored my laptop with a clean copy of windows 10.  I installed all of the drivers and I also updated my BIOS.  I noticed that sometimes my laptop would not shut down completely and the battery would just drain in the blank screen that I couldn't do anything about.  This also happened with sleep to.  Not all the time, but sometimes.  I tried to turn of hibernate and also fast start-up.  But, that did not work.  I, then, restored my computer again and I tried to reset the BIOS to the original BIOS.  I am still having these problems even after the restore which makes me believe that the BIOS is at issue becuase it is ROM and would not have been changed by my restoring of the laptop.  But, I did try to reset the BIOS to a previous version.  So, I am stuck and I do not know what to do.

Hi The laptop was working perfectly until i updated the intel HD graphics driver to version 23.20.16.4849 (27/10/17).  As soon as I did this, the machine would not wake from either sleep or hibernate mode when the lid was shut. When I open the lid it will either enter staright into a black screen, and I can hear the fan spinning with lights to the right hand side but no further activity. Sometimes the Lenovo log appears on the screen first and then enters into a blank screen state. I am on Bios Lenovo C6CN34WW 29/10/15 As soon as I press and hold the power button to turn off, and then turn on again the machine loads into windows perfectly, with a visible display.  Any suggestions how to fix this? Thanks

Hi guys,  Got my yoga last month and it's been okay, bit slow to load from sleep but it's done the job. Only thing is its now in a permanent sleep mode. I've tried re-charging it from zero battery, hard reset, putting the lid up and down, combining that with hard reset too. what to do? Do I have to send it somewhere? Obviously I don't want to open the thing up, I'd rather leave that to a professional. cheers.

This is my third X1 (all different generations) and I was very happy up till now. The problematic one has a Skylake processor and 512GB SSD and it seemed like a really nice config. The problem is that it doesn't want to shutdown nor wake up from sleep.First symptom: when shutting down, the pc seems to have shut down, but is still draining battery. If the keyboard FN-lock button is lighted, you can notice that this stays on. Also the fan will stay on if it was running before. The keyboard is even still responsive and you can turn on and off the different LEDs.Second symptom: when the pc goes to sleep, there is no waking it up. Also here the keyboard stays responsive for fn-lock etc.I've tried many things: reinstall windows 10 from scratch, reset the bios, upgrade the bios. Then Lenovo was actually very helpful to start: they swapped out the motherboard and when that didn't work, shipped the pc to a repair center. From here it went downhil: the repair was done in less than 5 hours according to the ticket (so I was impressed) but when I got the pc back I noticed why: they didn't repair it. They put on an image of windows 7 and since there the problem was not visible, called it fixed. Very frustrating. I put back windows 10 and guess what: the problem was exactly the same. When they shipped the pc, they had created a new ticket in the system, closing the original one. Now they even closed the second ticket although I already commented that the pc still doesn't work as it is supposed... Read more

Hi, yestarday I was using my laptop with several opened applications and 1 hangouts video call active.Well, the CPU has decided to freeze at 0.5 GHz due to the generated heat. The laptop of course became unusable, so I closed everything and restarted the system. Once the reboot was completed I noticed that frequency was still at 0.5 GHz. Then I ran an Ubuntu live usb and I checked the CPU: again, still at 0.5GHz. I came back to Windows 10, I made a bit of research and I used ThrottleStop. I unticked the BD Prochot and then the laptop came back to life with frequency at 2.9 GHz (for the sake of precision it works even without turning on Throttle stop...you only need to launch the app and untick the prochot). Now, the problem is that I can use the laptop with all its capabilities only after I run Throttle stop. In all the other cases, even when I boot my laptop, frequency is at 0.5 GHz (and you understand it is working at low frequency because it lags a lot). Investigating a bit, I found that only motherboard replacement can fix this issue.....really? What do you think? Do you any kind of solution?

To start, I have seen the thread about a high pitched noise issue with this device's fan, and I don't think my problem is the same one. I have an ongoing issue with my Yoga 3 (full specs below), where for most of the time that the fan is spinning, it makes a loud grinding noise as if there's something stuck in the fan or the blade is off balance. I've only had the laptop for six months and it wasn't a problem when I bought it - it's developed since. The fan still seems to cool the laptop properly, and I've had no warnings from the device, but it's audible in quieter rooms and definitely isn't normal. I've installed the BIOS update that was recommended for a similar fan issue, and I've used OneKey Optimiser to run the fan cleaning tool several times - nothing has changed so far. I'm not sure what to do next. Should I attempt to open the machine and clean the fan unit with compressed air/investigate further, or should I contact someone about a repair? Thanks Aaron

Hi aaroncawte ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As what you have already described , seems that you have done what is needed fro the fan noise issue.
Noting that the issue is mechanical in nature , please give tech support a call for the needed service .
No need to open the chassis for further steps not to invalidate the seal / warranty and have the tech run further check.

You can however run Lenovo Solution Center for the hardware test just to check on other parts that can also be affected and likewise temperature check at the moment of the noise for baseline data.

Hi guys, I am opening this post because I think that it could be useful to everyone who would like to solve several issues related to this laptop. I think that it is a really good notebook but it needs a lot of work to have it working in a proper way.So first of all I am posting here a link of a doc in which I am monitoring several issues I encountered and how I solved them. I know that it is not very easy to read it because its style is personal notes-like but I am sharing it anyone...probably someone can find the information it needs.Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 80JH monitoring doc

A:Lenovo Yoga 3 - 1470 (80JH) - General issues to so...

In this second post I am sharing the configuration to use with Notebook Fan Control software (probably some of you already know about this software if you hate the noise which fans of this laptop are able to do!). I added of course some considerations I noticed in preparing this config. Here we are... Yoga 3 1470 80JH using Windows 10 and NBFC 1.4.2.I appreciated a lot the work done by Mr. Cheeze but I found it incomplete, so I basically investigated the issue a bit more.I did not open the notebook but I found online that it is equipped with 2 fans. So, first step was adding the 2nd fan. Then I started to investigate if we can effectively control the fans and the answer is NO, but we can play a bit to force them to have a behavior. My target was only one: REDUCE the FANS NOISE and consequently their speed, because I think that this laptop is almost able to work in fanless mode (and believe me I stress it a lot, especially in terms of multitasking). Before showing my personal code to be used in NBFC I am giving you some information I retrieved by the Read&Write software (32bit version works well).?When Fans starts HEX values show up at position 6 and 254. These are the 2 actual speed values of the fans.?The target values (so where you have to write the desired fans speed) are in position 86 and 176. I am not totally sure if they are the effective position to write but they seem the only position which considerably vary according to the change of... Read more

Hello, I have a Lenovo Yoga 3-1470 64-bit, which was originally windows 8. After updating to windows 10, the audio (Conexant HD Audio) starts to have some problems, such as the need to keep restarting my laptop to get the audio back. Recently it has gotten worse, hence I decided to uninstall the Conexant HD Audio driver from my device manager, with the hope that I can reinstall the updated windows 10 Conexant HD Audio driver. But after uninstalling, I found out that I cannot reinstall it back. The device driver installation wizard will only install for 2 - 3%, then a messagebox ERROR will appear stating that "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver." I have tried installing windows 8 and 10 versions of the Conexant HD Audio Drivers, but they do not work. Currently, my audio isn't working anymore. Can anyone help me, Thank you very much.

I have my lenovo x230 laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. When I close the lid the "sleep" icon on the back of the screen lights up. But the batter will not last through the night on sleep mode. Within five hours or so, the battery is completely drained and I have to plug in and boot up the system. I've never seen such poor batter performance during sleep mode on any other laptop I've ever owned.  Another thread in this forum blames the USB port that allows you to charge mobile phones/etc. during low-power states and recommends disabling the "always power on" option fo this USB port in the Bios settings. I've done so, be it doesn't seem to have helped. At least my laptop still will not make it through the night in sleep mode.  At this point, it seems my ownly option is to use sleep mode only when the laptop is plugged in and hibernation mode when on batter power, which is disappointing. I've never had to worry about this in the past with other laptops.  Perhaps/probably related is the fact that the lenovo ThinkVantage Power Manager (v. 7.16) hangs at the splash screen when I try to open it, so I've been trying to manage the power through the windows control panel power settings.

Hi all, I have owned a Lenovo Flex 4 1470 2-1 for about a year now. At the beginning of this year, I noticed that my keyboard and trackpad had been disabled. I quickly realized that they would be promptly reactivated when I switched into a tablet position. Occasionally, upon restart or resetting the computer, the normal keyboard/trackpad function will return. Every time this happens though it rarely lasts longer than a day. Sometimes, it has returned even when I did nothing to fix it. Sometimes, if I held my laptop at a certain angle, or applied pressure to the base of the laptop, the function would return momentarily. Overall, the tablet/laptop hybrid function has been acting erratic and unnatural. I have already tried restarting my computer, reenabling the trackpad in lenovo's settings application, resetting my PC(both without removing personal files and removing personal files) as well as running countless virus and malware scans. I would return it to costco where I purchased it from, but my laptop is very important to me and Costco typically ships it out to the manufacturer for troubleshooting. Returning to Costco is a last resort that will be time consuming and cumbersome to my work and school.  Please help, I have been using an external keyboard and mouse for much too long.  Again, for reference, I own a Lenovo Flex 4 1470 running Windows 10. Thank You!

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

I restored my laptop to factory settings a few days ago using the built in Dell Backup and Recovery Manager. This isn't the first time I've done this but something happened. Now, whenever I shut down the computer using Start > Shut Down button (on the start menu) it goes into sleep mode. After the screen goes black (powers down) the actual on/off power button on the laptop continuously blinks on and off. It never used to do that before. Prior to this restore whenever I clicked Start > Shut Down button the screen would go black, everything would power down, and the laptop power button never blinked. Here's what I've checked so far:

1. The Shut Down button does say Shut Down. I right clicked the Start button > Properties > Power button action: and selected between Switch User, Log Off, Lock, Restart, Sleep, Hibernate, Shut down. The name of the button changes to whatever I select and every other option works except for Shut Down.
2. I disabled Hibernate from an elevated command prompt by typing: powercfg -h off
3. I checked Advanced Power Options and the default action for the Start menu Shut down button was showing Shut down. I opened the settings tree and selected Power Buttons and Lid > Power button action (which refers to the Start menu shut down button, not the laptop on/off power button) > Setting > and toggled through the various settings finally selecting Shut down and OKing my way back out of this dialog box. Still no joy. Whenever I click Start ... Read more

I just read an old thread from last year on here about this subject. I had XP before I just switched to Win 7. I did not ever turn off the XP. I like the convenience of sitting down and starting to work. Booting each time was too much like Dial-Up. My power supply on the XP machine lasted 5 years, so it couldn't have been too bad. == Other than conserving what I believe to be a small amount of power, is there any other advantage to using Sleep Mode. If I just left the machine on all the time, am I costing myself anything? I have read in other threads that you can click your mouse or hit your keyboard to bring it out of Sleep Mode. On mine, I have to hit the On/Off buttom. It comes immediately on. Should I be able to use my mouse to do this?

A:Sleep Mode vs Shut Down

Why don't you just try sleep mode and see for yourself how it works? It works pretty great for me. Comes out of sleep with a mouse movement in just a few seconds and goes into sleep in a second or two also. Much faster than hibernation. Saves a lot of power over time . . . good for the environment.

Is there any benefit to shutting down the computer at night or while at work as opposed to using Sleep Mode?

I've been using sleep mode at night or during the day when im at work, and shutting down my computer when I know i'll be away from it for more than a day.

Just wondering if this is a good idea, or should I shut it down more often, or is there something better to do at night and while at work than either of those?

Thanks

I bought my Yoga 13 (type 20175) brand new in 2014.  It shipped with Windows 8, 128GB, 4GB, if I recall correctly.  I had a license for W8 Pro that I used and there was a free 8.1 upgrade that I completed not long after purchase. Upgrades over the last (almost) 3 years have been boosting it to 8GB of ram, installing a Samsung SSD 850 EVO (250GB), Windows 10 (Pro), and now a battery. Sometime in 2015, I started noticing that if I didn't use the laptop and left it off for 2 or 3 days, the battery would completely discharge to 0%.  I chalked it up to age, and could still get several hours of moderate use in a day, so it wasn't a priority.  Finally, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new battery and put it in last week. Nothing changed.  I still have the same problem. In retrospect, it may have coincided with the installation of Windows 10.  Below is a further description of the problem and things I have tried.   PROBLEM:When shutting down, the battery loses an average of 2.5% per HOUR. (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 75%)This is consistent whether I use the Windows Start menu, the power button, or a command prompt (shutdown /s /f /t 0) to turn it off.  By the way, putting it in hibernate burns at the same rate. When putting the laptop to sleep, the battery loses only about 0.75% per HOUR (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 92%).  This occurs regardless of how I put it to sleep... First let's make sure your system is fully patched. Enable hardware auto-updating via Windows Update (Steps 3 and 6) then Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional, with reboots, until there are no more offered. This may take a day or more.

Next see if there's an Update for your Display driver on the Sony Support Downloads webpage for your model. This is the first suspect in any Sleep problems. I'd also update any other drivers including chipset if newer are available.

After reboot if the problem persists work through these other Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums

Hello,
After putting my computer into sleep mode last night, I was unable to get it to boot into windows this morning. When i pressed the power buttong, everything turn on and working (all fans are functional, gpu power led is on, all hard drives & cd drives are functional. But the problem is, the screen to my monitor is blank. I also noticed that my usb aren't working (mouse connection light isn't on). I tried a soft power off by holding down the power button but no luck. The system does not turn off no matter how long I hold it. The only way to turn it off is by pulling the power supply cord or turning the power supply switch off.

My pc build:

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz Socket AM3+ 6 core processor
ASUS ENGTX 560 DCII OC/2DI/1GD5 Geforce GTX 560
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard
COOLMAX ZU-700B 700W ATX 12V Power Supply

Prolimatech PRO Panther 120mm CPU Cooler
NZXT Phantom PHAN-001RD case

THE PROBLEM: Computer turn on with everything running as usual, but shows blank screen on monitor. Cannot soft power off by pressing power button.

Things I tried:

Clear CMOS by removing battery and switching pins
Running with 1 4GB RAM instead of 2, move the ram around the slots & alternate which Ram is used.
Check my monitor by testing it with another computer
Tried pulling the PS plug and holding the computer power button for 1 min
Test the GPU with another computer & it runs fine

A:Windows 7 blank screen after sleep mode (unable to power off with power button)

Hello,

Is it possible that you can test with another compatible PSU? I would strongly suggest doing so.

Also try the following steps:
?Make sure that the (internal) speaker is connected to the motherboard
?Remove all memory and attempt to boot the PC
?You should get the no memory beep errors

If the Power Supply is in working order and no beeps are present then it can be indicative of a faulty motherboard.

For troubleshooting purposes it may be a good idea to remove the components from the case and bench test to rule out a short.

After recovering from 'sleep mode' (raise the lid and hit any key to open screen)  I click on the power icon but it will not show me 'shut down' option so that i can shut down without signing in again. When I 'right click' the icon shows all the power options, but will now let me use any of them to initiate action.

Hi, I am experiencing a similar issue. My XPS 9560 crashes after it stays in sleep mode for a while. I assume the crash is triggered when the laptop goes from sleep mode to hibernation mode. This problem existed since Ii bought the laptop almost 2 months ago.
Hope somebody will find a fix.

I am facing the following problems with my system now.

1) If I put the system in sleep/ hibernate mode, it doesn't wake up, even if I press the power switch. Then I have to remove battery to make the system off
2) whenever I shutdown the system (with power supply on), it restarts by own, after shutdown.

this started one week ago

please help me to resolve these issues.

A couple of weeks ago 1) I found out I had a ransom Trojan. Microsoft essentials found it and quarantined it and then let me delete it.
                                      2) I did that free install of windows 10. Half of my system wouldn't work so I reverted back to windows 7. This is when essentials found the Trojan. Anyway I did some research to get things working in 10, reinstalled it, tried it for about 2 days and decided I didn't like it. So again I reverted back to 7. The PC has been working good but for whatever the reason my external hard drives suddenly got very slow opening folders. The internal HD works fine. I'm hoping something happened to the usb hub I am using. I have a new one coming and won't know until it comes. But 2 days ago all of a sudden when I shut my pc down, it doesn't shut down, it goes into sleep mode. The button on the front of the pc after shutting down doesn't turn off it just turns yellow. What could be causing this?

Ok, update: I just shut down my pc and this time it did shut down and booted normally, but the light on the front stayed on again (Yellow) What could this be now?

First and for most can you provide details of the virus that it found (location and name). Since you have Windows 7 install. you could try running Windows all in one repair (you can find at this site under downloads). Run the program and it should fix any issues you might have. As far as the virus, you need to remove it amd make sure its not coming back.

This is a very odd problem that I have never encountered before. The computer shuts down perfectly fine if it hasn't been put to sleep at any point during use. The only thing I have tried is updating the BIOS and that didn't change anything. If anyone could shed some light on this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

recently, i've noticed that whenever i sleep my computer, attempting to shut it down later does not work. the process just hangs at the Windows 7 screen with the Shutting down...message. i've let it run for 30 minutes one time and nothing happened, still Shutting down...

every time this has happened, i end up manually powering off. the computer shows no ill effects on start up (other than the 'your computer shut down improperly' message). i can't find any unusual events in event viewer, either. it shuts down fine when not having used sleep mode. to sum it up: when i power on my computer normally and DO NOT use sleep mode at all between a shut down, everything is fine.

when i power on my computer normally and DO use sleep mode at some point between the shutdown, the computer will typically HANG at the shut down screen and not actually shut down. however, what makes this tough to trouble shoot is that sleeping it for 5 or 10 minutes will have no effect on shutting down...but sleeping it overnight (7-8 hours) will.

this problem has been occurring for about 3 months now, though i only started noticing the trend recently. i typically shut my computer off during the week and sleep it through Friday and Saturday and then shut it down again on Sunday (now, i shut it down all the time of course). the computer is virus and malware free according to MSE and Mbam. the only thing i can think of that i installed in between now and 2 months ago were various Steam games ... A:My desktop will not shut down properly after using sleep mode.

These kind of issues are often caused by drivers that "hang" or misbehave in some way. Have you updated any recently, in particularl the video graphics driver... which I see you mention. These can be favourite for this kind of issue.

Hi, tech friends. I would love some help with a problem I've been having for a long time. I have a Dell Inspiron 11-3147 2-in-1 laptop running Windows 8.1. Sleep mode has never worked on it. I've fiddled with the settings in numerous ways, but it doesn't make a difference. The power buttons/closing the lid have the same effect as the "when the computer sleeps" settings: the computer shuts down unexpectedly. In fact, Event Viewer details the level as "critical" and says that "the system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first." The hibernation function does seem to work, but I finally got around to installing an SSD, and I want to avoid unnecessary writing to the drive. I also just clean installed the OS (following Philip Yip's guide). I had hoped this would solve the problem, but to no avail. So I did some research and found a person who seems to have had the same problem (the only difference being that hibernation, for him, also resulted in a shut down). I hope no one will mind if I post a link to another forum. I normally wouldn't, but the OP thoroughly describes the problem and his attempted solutions, and he follows up with every suggestion. Perhaps this will save time:answers.microsoft.com/.../c074d660-c6cf-415f-be9c-3f8110bf7616The solution that finally works for the OP's ASUS laptop, however, required reflashing the current BIOS with an ASUS utility. So that's what brings me here. If it's not too muc... Read more

Hello all,

I recently purchased a new computer, an Alienware, and have had some issues with shutting down and sleep mode. When I try to shut the computer down, it frequently stalls on the "shutting down" screen, and no matter how long I leave it, it will stay there, so I have to manually turn it off. Of course, this is not ideal. Second, when the computer is coming out of sleep mode, often times I will not be able to connect to the internet (the network icon will have a ! in the lower right hand corner of the screen) and when I attempt to reboot the computer, it again freezes. I am running a 64 bit operating system, and any help you can lend would be greatly appreciated!!

First off, I can tell you that- when you awake your computer, the connection will be offline in some cases. Mine does that too.

About the core of the problem, i'm stumped.

Let's wait for more techies.
