Q: Help with Internet problem. Downloading problem / login problem.

I have no idea if it is the same problem. First of all I am using a wireless router, I have a internal wireless thing on my laptop. And I am able to connect and all but when i went to ebay.com and tried to log in, It leads to me a page as if I am not online. So I am wondering if it is my router settings or my laptop that makes it like that. Thank you for your help.

Preferred Solution: Help with Internet problem. Downloading problem / login problem.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Help with Internet problem. Downloading problem / login problem.

This problem doesn't seem limited to Websites, I can't sign in on MSN too. Or login to anything. I am using a airlink router Model AR315W. So if anyone can help, please do. Thanks.

My computer was recently infected with the AntivirusPro 2009 which I removed with Malewarebytes. Now I am having problems when I am on the internet not being able to access hyperlinks and I am having problem with installing Kapersky Internet security. It will go through the install but the wizard does not come up to perform the scan (I currently have Norton and i uninstall before running Kapersky). It may be something simple I am overlooking. Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried a System Restore from before the infection? The Virus may have disabled some needed settings that a System Restore will fix.

Good morning I am having trouble downloading absolutely any files through my Internet Explorer browser after very foolishly uninstalling my Firefox (favourite browser with all my favourite web pages sotred) browser and now I have a major problem, because I can only use this browser to download Firefox again and it simply won't download anything!

This is the error message I get, you probably recognize it?

"Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded"

Now before you all tell me to alter the settings in Internet options, I have altered everything in there to lowest security and made sure the box which refers to allowing downloads to work is checked and still I get nothing downloading. So quite annoying!

I am wondering is there a way of changing registry keys o fix this problem or am I stuck here in Internet Explorer for eternity?

Thanks in advance,

Hi and welcome to TSG,

First off, are you sure your ActiveX controls are enabled?

Please do this. Click here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html to download Hijack This.

It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

we are not able to access many websites with many pictures and we are also not able to download many files that are even less than 10 mb. It is not like it takes to browse or download. They just fail to load or download.

However, if we change the link speed and duplex setting of network card from default, auto, to reduced 10 mbps full duplex, we are able to browse and download, although the speed is still not up to our expectation (160 kbps).

Can someone explain why this happens? We use 1.544 mbps T1. Does above mean that the internet provider limit our internet speed and file size? If yes, is there any way to confirm this, because the internet provider denied any fault on this issue? Thanks in advance.

A:Help with internet browsing and downloading problem.

The need to avoid the auto setting on the NIC usually happens when the NIC is failing or the modem or router at the other end is old, but sometimes there seems to be no reasonable explanation for it.

Is that 160 Kbps from something like speedtest.net or from your observations of actual downloads?

Whenever i click on any download links or click on 'save target as', there will be a message that says IE is not working, and IE will restart on its own. This makes me unable to download any files at all(save picture as still works though). I'v tried system restore and system restore says that it could not be completed. I think that most probably this is caused by the unsucessful uninstallation of a download manager program called 'Gigaget' which was terminated halfway. Although i have uninstalled it, the option'Download by Gigaget' still exist when i right click on any link. It seems that everything else is well for the computer. Could this be a problem with the unsucess uninstallation or a virus or something else. Please redirected me if i posted in the wrong section as i don't really know what is causing this problem.Thanks.

One of my systems at home: mobo -gigabyte p35 ds3l, with a core 2 duo 1.8 cpu, 2gigs of mushkin memory a 750 WD hard drive running win 7 x64.

Well, the problem I have is that the system is not able to download from the internet. Whatever I download, it will always stop at about 2% done and hang forever.

However, when I install winxp sp3, everything is perfect and it downloads fine.

What I have done... loaded a partition CD and deleted the drive, created a new C: drive, (done this format thing a couple of times) reinstalled the OS from my original Microsoft disk, reinstalled with the same OS from a downloaded version of win 7 x64... and x86... Clean installs. Always the same results.

I have mem-tested the memory = good
I have HD regenerator tested the HD = good

I have used on-board LAN = no difference
I have used a separate PCI LAN card = no difference
I have used a WiFi dongle = no difference
Changed RJ-45 cables = no difference

I ping the modem/router and all is good. I am able to network this computer on a home system, fine. I can ping internet sites with command prompt. I can surf the internet and load webpages, fine.

But it will not download.

I installed another browser, Firefox, and the same thing happens, no downloading.

All this is after a clean install from a newly formatted drive.

Throw me a new suggestion, please...

Hey folks. It's me again. Never managed to get the Nvidia firewall uninstalled. But it's doing better. Not sure why. BUT, I have a problem when I try to download most files off of the internet. I suspect it's my Nic and that I have to update it, but I'm not sure. Whenever I download a file (like Winamp or realplayer for example), it gives me an error stating:

"The Installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.

You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.

It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECCOMMENDED). "

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me as if Java runtime environment ( as opposed to javascript) is not loaded on your new machine.

You could just keep the page that is trying to load the applet open until it defaults to a download page, or possibly get the download here.

Not sure my login problem has to do with IE 11, but I'll start here.

2 months ago I was able to log into eBay on my desktop. I went on vacay for 3 weeks and when I came back, I wasn't able to log in any longer. I checked eBay to make sure I had the correct user name (and I did) and then changed my password. Still no login. Changed my password, again, 4 more times over a couple days, but still no login.

However, I AM able to log into eBay on my laptop (HP Pavilion, OS Windows 8.1, IE11, AMD A6, 4gbs Ram, 64-bit). What's happening here? Could it be the browser?

If not, what do you suppose is going on here?

I have since a cupple of days the following problems with my computer:

When i boot it up and the windows password shreen comes, i cant log in because the part of the logon screen with the username, password field, password hint etc. is missing.... here a screen shot of it (yea, its in german...guesse were I am from!):

So I logged in by pressing ctr+alt+delete twice. I used the username that was in the loginbox and since I don't even have a windows password (!), I just lett the passwordfield free and I could log in without problems. later I noticed that the account I loged in to has not admin rights but is only an visitor account. Unfortunately I dont remember what my login name is since you dont have to type it in on regular bases in windows xp.

After that I tried to boot up the computer in safe moode to get to the account "administrator" which is without password. But my safemoode seems not to be working too! I just used it several days ago and everything was ok. But now, when i boot it up in safemoode the computer turns itself of right before the loogin schreen comes!

I did several things with my computer right before I had these problems that could in my oppinion possibly have something to do with my problems.
I addded a password to my useraccount but i made up my minde and deleted it right away again.

Than I whent to Start/ Run and whent to "control userpasswords2". My username was in the group "debugger users" instead of "administrators". I changed this and now everything is normal again!

I am still wondering how this happend and why i could not enter the savemoode (and why it probably worked again)..... if anybody has ideas, i would be interested!

I am operating Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 3. I have Internet Explorer 8. I was able to login to different sites until a automatic Java update about two weeks ago. Now when I try to login or search various sites(ebay and remax) I get an error that says:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
When I click the properties for more information I get the following: javascript:expandCollapse('infoBlockID', true);

When I turn Java off, I am able to sign into my different accounts (eBay...). I have tried to update Java, but nothing else works. Is there a fix so I can search without turning Java off?

A:Java problem???Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage when trying to login

I don't know the cause of your problem but, if it is the update to Sun Java Version 6 Update 16 which came out on 13th August, you could uninstall it via Add/Remove and then download Version 6 Update 15. This is possible because Update 16 was not for 'security' reasons, so 15 is still safe to use.

The fact that your error message mentions 'javascript' is probably irrelevant because JavaScript is different to Sun Java, despite the name being the same. It is also possible that this is an Internet Explorer glitch because IE8 is, apparently, still causing problems for some people.

Hello, so I just got a new ISP yesterday and everything seemed to be working fine, until today. I haven't made any changes (no new updates on security/anti-virus programs). I have wireless internet access (it says it's connected and the diagnose tool can't identify a problem). My main browser is Chrome, but I have Internet Explorer and Firefox. For all three browsers, I can't connect to any websites, except for MSN.com. I have enabled cookies for Chrome, deleted the cache, and have added that program to my firewall's list of accepted programs, and it still won't load pages. However, programs like Spotify, Hulu Desktop, VLC updates, etc that need an internet connection work fine (also, I saved a session in chrome of opened tabs from yesterday and they loaded perfectly fine, but if I try and type them in a new window, they won't load). I have an ethernet cable too, but I don't understand how the programs that need an internet connection work (ex: Spotify radio, Skype,), but my browsers won't.

I don't know if these programs have anything to do with my browsing problem, but I have: CCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials), and I recently removed McAffee. For my firewall program, I just have Windows Firewall with Advanced Security

I've been having this problem for weeks now. I have a cable connection and a wireless router that plugs right into the computer, which happens to be the one I'm having a problem with (the laptops work fine with the wireless internet, only the computer is screwed up).

When I try going to websites such as AOL.com and MySpace (Only about half of the websites I visit will work), I know the internet connects bc it says "AOL - Welcome to AOL" and shows the logo in the search bar, but does not display. Just sits there...and loads, and loads and loads.

Also, for no reason my Flash player is gone all this sudden after this problem has been happening. And guess what? Adobe.com won't load so I can't reinstall it, but flash player is still listed in the "Add of Remove programs" list!
What could be the problem and what can I do to fix it?

A:[SOLVED] Computer Problem with Internet, connection's not the problem

Hi Brian2570...

it could be a malware issue..have you checked for any infections recently?

If after doing the above and you're sure you system is clean, perhaps try connecting to those sites with your firewall temporarily disabled?

Also, have a look in your HOSTS file for any added entries such as Adobe, AOL and MySpace:

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
- Click Ok
- That will open the hosts file in notepad...if it's quite large, try using the Edit -> Find feature to search for the entries.

Post back if you find any...or not please

Please bear with me. Not only am I a novice Tech Support Guy Forum participant, I'm not as knowledgable as I'd like to be about computers.

I use two computers. One is my employer's; the other is my personal machine. Both utilize Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3. Both machines are set for Internet Explorer 8. Both also use Adobe Reader 9.2 All of the necessary updates are in order.
One website I visit frequently belongs to an organization that archives its newsletters and allows subscribers to retrieve full pages of past issues. All the subscriber needs to do is to type in the date of publication, and thumbnails of each page of that edition appear. (The organization essentially photographs the pages of each edition of the newsletter and makes the pages available as pdf's.)

The problem occurs when I use my personal computer. It doesn't happen all of the time, but it happens often enough to be annoying. When I find a page I want to retrieve and click on that thumbnail, the page comes up -- but with more than half of the text and photos missing. I also get an error message -- "Insufficient Data for an Image."

I went to the forums on the Adobe website, and learned that this error message typically indicates that the pdf file is corrupt. People with this problem are instructed to contact the file's creator.

That advice would normally make sense, except that when I use my employer's computer to retrieve the very same pages,... Read more

I need your help. I can?t seem to connect to the internet with my USB ?dongle? modem on my new laptop. My service provider says that the problem is not a problem with coverage. The device is working properly, according to Windows 7 and I can also access the internet on another older laptop that has Windows XP. The service provider reckons it is likely to be related to one of four possibilities:
? (1) Anti-viral software (I managed to access the internet once to register my subscription and to download some windows updates)
? Services on the laptop not being enabled: (2) telephony, (3) RPC and (4) plug and play. The laptop provider recommended that these settings be changed from manual to automatic, which I?ve done. This allowed me to access the internet again, but only once, allowing to me to download more windows updates.
I guess this looks like it could be the anti-viral software, yes? Should I uninstall my anti-viral software or are there other settings in Windows 7 that I change change/reconfigure? I'm not sure where that option is off the top of my head..however I can offer you a fix to know where the files are being downloaded....

In Registry key HKCurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer, add or change the value named Download Directory, changing its current data of <whatever> to whatever directory you want the files downloaded to.

After I formatted my computer, I tried to reinstall Optimum Online.

But after I did, I found out that the computer wouldn't download at all, and when I typed winipcfg in the run command, it always came out to be PPP adapter, no matter how many times I changed it. According to the booklet the company gave me, it should not be like that.

Anyone know why it's doing this? I already spent too much time and I will go insane is this isn't fixed.

I want download Everest Home Edition, the successor to Aida 32. But when I am at the site for downloading and click to download, I get that window asking me if I want to do it and I click affirmative. Then that window disappears but the usual one showing the downloading process does not appear. So I still have the Everest webpage for the download on my screen. The only indication that something is happening is that the MS flag in the upper right hand corner continues to wave. That goes on for several minutes and I close the webpage because I don't know if there is any downloading going on or not.

I previously went to a major geek site that said I could download Aida 32 and I got the same result.

Could someone tell me what is going on?

All of sudden when I want to download a file from website it is downloaded directly to the ...\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5... directory. I want it to prompt me with the "Save As" dialog box so I can choose the download directory. Can someone help me out???

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools>Options>Advanced tab and put a check mark in "Notify when downloads complete." Click OK. Close all Internet Explorer windows. Reopen IE and try a download.

If that didn't work, go to Windows (not Internet) Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types tab. Scroll down to the type of file you're trying to download (for example, .exe), click on it to select it and click on the Advanced button. Put a checkmark in "Confirm open after download," click OK.

You'll need to do that for each file type to get the "What do you want to do with the file?" dialog box back.

Hi, I have a problem on one of my Windows XP Pro accounts. When I click a link to download something, the download box (the one with Save, Open etc.) pops up as usual. Here's where my problem is, if I click Save or Open, it doesn't save or open the file, it just opens a My Computer window. There's no way to save it or open it. It just started a few says ago. I don't believe any settings have been modified. I have run Norton Anti-Virus and Ad-aware 6 Pro, with no results. The funny thing is it's only on one of the accounts. The other XP accounts work fine.

Help would be appritiated. Thanks in advance

Exe files should not open with anything, so never use Open With for them.

Try this:

EXEFIX_Vista (It's fine for 7. Same thing.)

I usually post via the Helponthe.net Email group. I posted the following last Monday, but have not received an answer. Perhaps somebody in the forum can help ...

For the last two days, I have been attempting to download "Open Darwin 7.01", an open source operating system based in the latest MacIntosh OS, which will run on most PC Clone machines. The file, named Darwin-701.iso.gz, is 413 MB in size. The download gets to 413 MB and then continues to 414, 415, and on and on and on. The last time I tried, the download was to 430 MB when I reluctantly canceled it. If I don't stop it like I did this time, it eventually times out.

This has happened 5 times. Each try was made from a different server.

Anybody have any idea what is happening here and why it is happening?

I have just recently started having this problem maybe a week or so. Whenever i try to download a large file of a few hundred megabytes, i will do it overnight. Usually i have to go to work in the morning, so i log out of my windows user account after starting the download. Normally the file still downloads, but lately i have noticed that is stops immediately after i click to change user. I have tried IE and Firefox so its not the browser that is causing the prob. Any idea on what the problem could be, and how i can fix it?

For certain types of downloads in IE, it doesn't let me choose where I want the download to go and automatically opens the file I download. It downloads automatically to my temporary files folder. This is only for links which are in a grey button box (if you know what i'm talking about).

For nromal URL links which are downloads, it will prompt me on whether I want to open, save, or cancel, and it will also ask me where I want the file to download to.

I couldn't find anything in the internet options, I'm thinking it's a setting that I somehow changed, but I can't find it. If anyone knows, that wouold be great, thanks!

Hello everyone.
Every time I attempt to download something, I receive an error saying "the connection with the server has been reset" I don't have a clue what that means and have no clue on how to solve. I can't download any material from any site. Since I'm no computer expert, I hope someone can explain step-by-step on what I need to do to resolve this issue. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the browser since I tried this with Firefox and receive the same error. I use Internet Explorer 7 by the way.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Are you downloading the software via IE and not using any 3rd party software to do the downloading?

How long does it sit at 99.9%?
