Q: Help with Internet problem. Downloading problem / login problem.

I have no idea if it is the same problem. First of all I am using a wireless router, I have a internal wireless thing on my laptop. And I am able to connect and all but when i went to ebay.com and tried to log in, It leads to me a page as if I am not online. So I am wondering if it is my router settings or my laptop that makes it like that. Thank you for your help.

Preferred Solution: Help with Internet problem. Downloading problem / login problem.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

we are not able to access many websites with many pictures and we are also not able to download many files that are even less than 10 mb. It is not like it takes to browse or download. They just fail to load or download.

However, if we change the link speed and duplex setting of network card from default, auto, to reduced 10 mbps full duplex, we are able to browse and download, although the speed is still not up to our expectation (160 kbps).

Can someone explain why this happens? We use 1.544 mbps T1. Does above mean that the internet provider limit our internet speed and file size? If yes, is there any way to confirm this, because the internet provider denied any fault on this issue? Thanks in advance.

A:Help with internet browsing and downloading problem.

The need to avoid the auto setting on the NIC usually happens when the NIC is failing or the modem or router at the other end is old, but sometimes there seems to be no reasonable explanation for it.

Is that 160 Kbps from something like speedtest.net or from your observations of actual downloads?

Good morning I am having trouble downloading absolutely any files through my Internet Explorer browser after very foolishly uninstalling my Firefox (favourite browser with all my favourite web pages sotred) browser and now I have a major problem, because I can only use this browser to download Firefox again and it simply won't download anything!

This is the error message I get, you probably recognize it?

"Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded"

Now before you all tell me to alter the settings in Internet options, I have altered everything in there to lowest security and made sure the box which refers to allowing downloads to work is checked and still I get nothing downloading. So quite annoying!

I am wondering is there a way of changing registry keys o fix this problem or am I stuck here in Internet Explorer for eternity?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

One of my systems at home: mobo -gigabyte p35 ds3l, with a core 2 duo 1.8 cpu, 2gigs of mushkin memory a 750 WD hard drive running win 7 x64.

Well, the problem I have is that the system is not able to download from the internet. Whatever I download, it will always stop at about 2% done and hang forever.

However, when I install winxp sp3, everything is perfect and it downloads fine.

What I have done... loaded a partition CD and deleted the drive, created a new C: drive, (done this format thing a couple of times) reinstalled the OS from my original Microsoft disk, reinstalled with the same OS from a downloaded version of win 7 x64... and x86... Clean installs. Always the same results.

I have mem-tested the memory = good
I have HD regenerator tested the HD = good

I have used on-board LAN = no difference
I have used a separate PCI LAN card = no difference
I have used a WiFi dongle = no difference
Changed RJ-45 cables = no difference

I ping the modem/router and all is good. I am able to network this computer on a home system, fine. I can ping internet sites with command prompt. I can surf the internet and load webpages, fine.

But it will not download.

I installed another browser, Firefox, and the same thing happens, no downloading.

All this is after a clean install from a newly formatted drive.

Throw me a new suggestion, please...

Whenever i click on any download links or click on 'save target as', there will be a message that says IE is not working, and IE will restart on its own. This makes me unable to download any files at all(save picture as still works though). I'v tried system restore and system restore says that it could not be completed. I think that most probably this is caused by the unsucessful uninstallation of a download manager program called 'Gigaget' which was terminated halfway. Although i have uninstalled it, the option'Download by Gigaget' still exist when i right click on any link. It seems that everything else is well for the computer. Could this be a problem with the unsucess uninstallation or a virus or something else. Please redirected me if i posted in the wrong section as i don't really know what is causing this problem.Thanks.

Hi and welcome to TSG,

First off, are you sure your ActiveX controls are enabled?

Please do this. Click here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html to download Hijack This.

It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

I suspect it's my Nic and that I have to update it, but I'm not sure. Whenever I download a file (like Winamp or realplayer for example), it gives me an error stating:

"The Installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.

You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.

It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECCOMMENDED). "

Not sure my login problem has to do with IE 11, but I'll start here.

2 months ago I was able to log into eBay on my desktop. I went on vacay for 3 weeks and when I came back, I wasn't able to log in any longer. I checked eBay to make sure I had the correct user name (and I did) and then changed my password. Still no login. Changed my password, again, 4 more times over a couple days, but still no login.

However, I AM able to log into eBay on my laptop (HP Pavilion, OS Windows 8.1, IE11, AMD A6, 4gbs Ram, 64-bit). What's happening here? Could it be the browser?

If not, what do you suppose is going on here?

Also i think a startup item might be slowing this down, try doing this to pinpoint the problem : Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
See how long it takes when u perform a clean boot, which a tutorial is in the above link.

Hello,
I have since a cupple of days the following problems with my computer:

When i boot it up and the windows password shreen comes, i cant log in because the part of the logon screen with the username, password field, password hint etc. is missing.... here a screen shot of it (yea, its in german...guesse were I am from!):

So I logged in by pressing ctr+alt+delete twice. I used the username that was in the loginbox and since I don't even have a windows password (!), I just lett the passwordfield free and I could log in without problems. later I noticed that the account I loged in to has not admin rights but is only an visitor account. Unfortunately I dont remember what my login name is since you dont have to type it in on regular bases in windows xp.

After that I tried to boot up the computer in safe moode to get to the account "administrator" which is without password. But my safemoode seems not to be working too! I just used it several days ago and everything was ok. But now, when i boot it up in safemoode the computer turns itself of right before the loogin schreen comes!

I did several things with my computer right before I had these problems that could in my oppinion possibly have something to do with my problems.

I am operating Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 3. I have Internet Explorer 8. I was able to login to different sites until a automatic Java update about two weeks ago. Now when I try to login or search various sites(ebay and remax) I get an error that says:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
When I click the properties for more information I get the following: javascript:expandCollapse('infoBlockID', true);

When I turn Java off, I am able to sign into my different accounts (eBay...). I have tried to update Java, but nothing else works. Is there a fix so I can search without turning Java off?

A:Java problem???Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage when trying to login

I don't know the cause of your problem but, if it is the update to Sun Java Version 6 Update 16 which came out on 13th August, you could uninstall it via Add/Remove and then download Version 6 Update 15. This is possible because Update 16 was not for 'security' reasons, so 15 is still safe to use.

The fact that your error message mentions 'javascript' is probably irrelevant because JavaScript is different to Sun Java, despite the name being the same. It is also possible that this is an Internet Explorer glitch because IE8 is, apparently, still causing problems for some people.

Hello, so I just got a new ISP yesterday and everything seemed to be working fine, until today. I haven't made any changes (no new updates on security/anti-virus programs). I have wireless internet access (it says it's connected and the diagnose tool can't identify a problem). My main browser is Chrome, but I have Internet Explorer and Firefox. For all three browsers, I can't connect to any websites, except for MSN.com. I have enabled cookies for Chrome, deleted the cache, and have added that program to my firewall's list of accepted programs, and it still won't load pages. However, programs like Spotify, Hulu Desktop, VLC updates, etc that need an internet connection work fine (also, I saved a session in chrome of opened tabs from yesterday and they loaded perfectly fine, but if I try and type them in a new window, they won't load). I have an ethernet cable too, but I don't understand how the programs that need an internet connection work (ex: Spotify radio, Skype,), but my browsers won't.

I don't know if these programs have anything to do with my browsing problem, but I have: CCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials), and I recently removed McAffee. For my firewall program, I just have Windows Firewall with Advanced Security

I've been having this problem for weeks now. I have a cable connection and a wireless router that plugs right into the computer, which happens to be the one I'm having a problem with (the laptops work fine with the wireless internet, only the computer is screwed up).

When I try going to websites such as AOL.com and MySpace (Only about half of the websites I visit will work), I know the internet connects bc it says "AOL - Welcome to AOL" and shows the logo in the search bar, but does not display. Just sits there...and loads, and loads and loads.

Also, for no reason my Flash player is gone all this sudden after this problem has been happening. And guess what? Adobe.com won't load so I can't reinstall it, but flash player is still listed in the "Add of Remove programs" list!
What could be the problem and what can I do to fix it?

Hi Brian2570...

it could be a malware issue..have you checked for any infections recently?

If after doing the above and you're sure you system is clean, perhaps try connecting to those sites with your firewall temporarily disabled?

Also, have a look in your HOSTS file for any added entries such as Adobe, AOL and MySpace:

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
- Click Ok
- That will open the hosts file in notepad...if it's quite large, try using the Edit -> Find feature to search for the entries.

Post back if you find any...or not please

Greetings,

Please bear with me. Not only am I a novice Tech Support Guy Forum participant, I'm not as knowledgable as I'd like to be about computers.

I use two computers. One is my employer's; the other is my personal machine. Both utilize Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3. Both machines are set for Internet Explorer 8. Both also use Adobe Reader 9.2 All of the necessary updates are in order.
One website I visit frequently belongs to an organization that archives its newsletters and allows subscribers to retrieve full pages of past issues. All the subscriber needs to do is to type in the date of publication, and thumbnails of each page of that edition appear. (The organization essentially photographs the pages of each edition of the newsletter and makes the pages available as pdf's.)

The problem occurs when I use my personal computer. It doesn't happen all of the time, but it happens often enough to be annoying. When I find a page I want to retrieve and click on that thumbnail, the page comes up -- but with more than half of the text and photos missing. I also get an error message -- "Insufficient Data for an Image."

I went to the forums on the Adobe website, and learned that this error message typically indicates that the pdf file is corrupt. People with this problem are instructed to contact the file's creator.

That advice would normally make sense, except that when I use my employer's computer to retrieve the very same pages,... Read more

I need your help. I can?t seem to connect to the internet with my USB ?dongle? modem on my new laptop. My service provider says that the problem is not a problem with coverage. The device is working properly, according to Windows 7 and I can also access the internet on another older laptop that has Windows XP. The service provider reckons it is likely to be related to one of four possibilities:
? (1) Anti-viral software (I managed to access the internet once to register my subscription and to download some windows updates)
or
? Services on the laptop not being enabled: (2) telephony, (3) RPC and (4) plug and play. The laptop provider recommended that these settings be changed from manual to automatic, which I?ve done. This allowed me to access the internet again, but only once, allowing to me to download more windows updates.
I guess this looks like it could be the anti-viral software, yes? Should I uninstall my anti-viral software or are there other settings in Windows 7 that I change change/reconfigure? Some of what you're experiencing may be due to the different hardware than you had in the older system - however, one BIG possibility:
Windows 7 does not fully support the power management features of the Skylake CPU and chipset in your system.  Even if Windows 7 is correctly installed, there will be missing features (Microsoft never implemented the advanced Skylake power management features in anything older than Windows 8).
You'd likely experience some of the same issues with a Skylake Lenovo system.
The Skylake platform in your system WILL run Windows 7 (it's the last Intel platform that will;  the newly released Kaby Lake won't run it at all), but it won't implement all the Skylake power management features it has no drivers for (and never will have drivers for).  Unless you're completely stuck with Windows 7, most of the issue -- or all of them -- will go away if you move to Windows 10.  If you don't do it now, this is the last hardware you'll be buying -- as above, Windows 7 is history as of the release of the new Kaby Lake platform.

Hello,

Not at all sure that this is W7 related, but it seems that you folks are really expert in most matters, so will take the liberty of Posting here. Appreciate all the help very much. Great Forum.

Here's one for the "weird category," I think.

Using Comcast Broadband for internet..

All my downloads, and my son's video's, etc. seem to go very fast.
No complaints.

But, I have one site, in Germany, that downloads at a crawl.
Whenever I download from this site, a Text document that is only a few hundred lines in length, the download crawls. Would take hours if I left it alone.
Other sites in Germany that I try go fast.

But, here's the funny part:

I have asked others to check out this site, and do the download, on their PC's, and they all say it just takes a few seconds to do.

As all my other downloads go really fast, I cannot imagine what my PC thinks might be unique about this site.

Problem exists for any time of the day or night that I try it.
Same problem if Virus Protection is turned off.

Any thoughts on would be most appreciated.

(site in question is: EiBi It's the : "Sorted By Frequency" on the right side of the page, then the "TEXT" icon for the actual download)
If you get a chance, might want to try it.

Much thanks,
Bob

No complaints.

Whenever I download from this site, a Text document that is only a few hundred lines in length, the download crawls. Would take hours if I left it alone.
Other sites in Germany that I try go fast.

hi thanks for trying to help me. iv been trying to download .mp3 and they just download into a UTF - 8 i dont have a clue what it means. here is a screen shot to help u understand more

A:Problem when downloading

Hello isoman. Welcome to Eight Forums.

Your downloader has your mp3 associated with the wrong file type. UTF-8 is a text file type.

UTF-8 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You could try changing the "save as" file type in your downloader.

another example is youtube movies, some will pause somewhere during the movie and never complete.

i have antivirus and firewall programs that i thought was the reason. so i turned them off but the problem still persists.

When I am downloading, it downloads for a short period of time, and then it cannot go further and hang. I noticed it stops when the network also stops for a second or so, and then somehow the download cannot be restarted and it just stays there waiting. Is this a virus problem or a setting problem?

Any help will be appreciated.

Danny

A:Downloading Problem

Doesn't sound like a virus.

You said that the network stops. If the network stops it kills the download connection and downloads do not resume unless you have a download manager. I believe firefox lets you resume downloads, might want to give that a try.

The bottom line is, I can't download anything anymore
Is used to be able to, but now I can't.
I says it's downloading and a temporary file appears in the directory where I'm saving to, then when it finishes, it just disappears

I though it was to do with disk space, as it was going in the red. But, I moved files into the other half of the partitioned drive so they were both on green, but still no joy.

Can anyone Help

wow, I'm excited to find this site as my normal tech guy is stumped on this one.
I have an XP operating system and am not real computer savvy.
I have been downloading pod casts to my windows media player for some time and suddenly it's not working. (from the same site) there is a setting wrong because I can do it successfully from my other computer.

when I click one to download a little box opens up that says;

you have chosen to open: then it lists the name of the audio and at the end says mp3
BUT,,, then it says on the next line;

which is a: v card file

this must be the problem because it's not a v card it's an mp3

how can this be changed so it knows it's an mp3?
I did go under tools and options trying to figure it out and maybe i changed it.
Thanks much

hello everyone, just want to ask something regarding internet, my friend just bought a new laptop and already have an internet connection, he don`t have any problem browsing the net except connecting to yahoo messenger or some online gaming and he also can`t download mp3 using limewire, but he can watch anything like in youtube. at first we thought the problem maybe it`s in his computer, so i brought it in my house and tried it, but i easily get connected to YM and some online games and i can download mp3 also, so i believed the problem isn`t on his laptop.
where or what do you think is the possible cause of it? is it possible that his internet provider is blocking something with his connection? that`s why he can connect to internet but can`t access to YM or any file sharing related.
thank you in advance!

I think your friend stands behind a proxy server. Hence he can not connect his program to Internet.

Hello,
I'm having a problem downloading anything from the internet. Every time I attempt to download it is stopped and a box appears saying "my security settings do not allow me to download this file." This is with everything I download, including games and e-mails. It started when my computer automatically downloaded some "new" security settings. I've put several spyware and virus checkers through my computer and nothing has changed.
I have changed my security and firewall settings but nothing happens.
Can somebody please help me?
Thank you.

Hey all, I've posted on this forum and many others about this problem and I have YET to get a response from ANYONE about it.

I'm running windows XP SP2. My computer, for whatever reason, no longer downloads things in their entirety.

If I'm doing anything with flash or streaming video, such as youtube, flash games, etc, it will stream part of the way(anywhere from an eighth to almost the whole thing), and then just stop. If I click the player ahead to the part that's been un-downloaded, it start streaming again, but only from that part onward(and sometimes it stops streaming again before reaching the end).

If I'm downloading a file, any file, it stalls out. The bandwidth will be high(almost a MB a second), and then it will just stop. The download doesn't cancel, it just hangs there, indefinitely. If I pause the download and restart it, it will usually start downloading again, for a short while. Then it will stall again. Sometimes I can get downloads all the way just by pausing and restarting again, sometimes not.

If I'm trying to update software, ie: a game patch, a firewall or virus scan update, or anything else that uses its own download manager, it will get part of the way and then stall. The worst part is, I can't typically pause and restart these downloads, so I can't update any of the software on my computer.

This happens only on my computer, no other computer on my home network has this problem, so I know it's not m... Read more

All of sudden when I want to download a file from website it is downloaded directly to the ...\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5... directory. I want it to prompt me with the "Save As" dialog box so I can choose the download directory. Can someone help me out???

A:Downloading problem

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools>Options>Advanced tab and put a check mark in "Notify when downloads complete." Click OK. Close all Internet Explorer windows. Reopen IE and try a download.

If that didn't work, go to Windows (not Internet) Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types tab. Scroll down to the type of file you're trying to download (for example, .exe), click on it to select it and click on the Advanced button. Put a checkmark in "Confirm open after download," click OK.

You'll need to do that for each file type to get the "What do you want to do with the file?" dialog box back.

I have just recently started having this problem maybe a week or so. Whenever i try to download a large file of a few hundred megabytes, i will do it overnight. Usually i have to go to work in the morning, so i log out of my windows user account after starting the download. Normally the file still downloads, but lately i have noticed that is stops immediately after i click to change user. I have tried IE and Firefox so its not the browser that is causing the prob. Any idea on what the problem could be, and how i can fix it?

Thanks

Any ideas how to keep the downloads going like before?

For some reason, I cannot download from the Web anymore.

Is there anyway I can "repair " IE7 or do I have to reinstall IE7? I do not have the software and would like to get out of paying a Computer Technician just to install IE 7 again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Whenever I try to download a file using any internet browser, the downloads just stop. There is no exact place they stop, it is completely random. This problem mainly occurs with large downloads. I have no clue how to get them to continue. It is really annoying and I have asked many of my friends and they all say they haven't encountered a problem like that. One of them said they think it has to do with my ISP but I have no clue if that's true. I notice though that the wireless internet symbol, the comp, on your task bar, at the bottom left, shows that it is not connecting to the internet. Then when i open an IE window, it loads fine but the downloads are still frozen and responding, just not downloading. I am wondering if it is a problem with the settings of the computer or it is the ISP. Please respond ASAP!!!

Cheers!
