I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: ThinkPad T400 - BIOS update

you should be using the 64-bit version of windows 10 as for a BIOS update, the T400 is ok with the original one, the link is provided for the thread if an update is desired https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/downloads/migr-70350

Dear Moderator(s) I am having boot up warning with the current Bios that is recently updated in February 2017. I honestly have no clue what could have caused this!  I turned it on this morning & it was stuck on the booting screen. It read "ThinkPad" in large letters followed by "To interrupt normal start up, press the blue ThinkVantage button." I waited for about a half hour for it to boot & it never did. I of course pressed the ThinkVantage button & to my dismay...nothing happened. Afterwards, I unplugged it & removed the battery pack. I then plugged it back in & attempted to start it up again. Once again, nothing. I unplugged it again & attached the battery pack. At that point I tried starting it up again and N O T H I N G!  What do I do?!

Hi Punittiwari3353,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Have you checked it individually with battery and without battery?
Did you check with different power adapter or with different power socket?
Is the CPU fan running with regular speed?
Boot the system into ?Safe mode? and check if the issue persists there also?

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

Best regards,

A:thinkpad T400 Ram Upgrade

RAM: You need a minimum of PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3. However faster chips like PC3-10600 1333MHz DDR3 or PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 will work fine as well.

If there's little or no difference in price I'd buy the faster memory. The reason is that if I upgrade to a new(er) notebook it's more likely the RAM will work at full speed on that system.

Note also that while you can upgrade to a maximum of 8GB (2x 4GB) with a 32-bit OS like WinXP-32 you won't be able to utilize more than 3GB.

SSD: Any of the drives you've listed will work well.

Hi, I've searched the forums and elsewhere online, and I can't find any real help for this issue. I'm running Win 7, and I have the most up-to-date drivers from the Lenovo site. I have turned on loudness equalization, but it has not helped the problem. This is an across-the-board problem. What I mean by that is, this problem persists regardless of the application, which I happen to be using. For instance, I use Media Player Classic: Home Cinema to watch movies. If the volume is at 0%, as I begin adjusting it upward, the volume level rises. However, as I reach about 70%, the volume stops increasing. There are audio adjustments w/in the application to boost the volume, but they serve to provide minimal effects. Overall, the volume is incredibly low. If you're sitting more than a few feet away from the laptop, it is inaudible. I don't know what else to do, and I was hoping that someone might offer some assistance. Thank you.  Jeff

I have a thinkpad T400. Couple of months ago the problem started. I could not shut it down it just keep re-booting. I had to press and hold the start button to shut it. Now it won't boot at all. It beeps 1-3-3-1 and just sits there. When I press start button all lights come ON for a while and after only battery , AC and Ready lights stay ON. Here are few things I did so far without any luck: 1. Removed battery and AC adaptor waited few minutes put it back - same problem2. Removed CMOS battery. DIMM cards waited for ten minutes replaced - same problem tried with swapping  DIMM cards - when I put only one card on top slot it says put the card on zero "bottom" position. After placing the Mem card on the bottom slot no thing happens. It beeps again and sit. When I checked in the manual it says either DIMM or System board. I do not know which one is giving me the problem. I just do not want to replace all parts without knowing. Can any body help please or had similar issue and solutions if you managed to solve it. I recently replaced a bad LCD (the backlight was working at the time) with a new one. However, while the new screen works, it's backlight did not. I then grabbed another laptop I have and plugged in the old screen's backlight - it came on. Hi all -I know I am talking about a very old machine but I am hoping there is someone out there that would be willing and able to provide helpful  advice - some background -  in my dire need I purchased a 'refurb' Lenovo Thinkpad T400 from who now turns out to be an unreputable seller - I was silly enough not to worry about recovery disks or even a 30 day warranty - now I am paying dearly for my negligence.  This machine has had issues from day one that I thought I could work my way thru reading forums, Lenovo site etc. but nothing has worked.  My first challenge was trying to just get the right-click on touchpad to produce context menu - I searched and searched and reluctantly loaded 3rd party softwares to no avail.  I gave up on that only to discovered that when I loaded any antimalware program my cursor would not open that program nor would it open any other program on the machine. So I uninstalled the antimalware. So I can't really run to see if I have a virus.  To make a long story short right now NONE of the function keys work nor the THINKVANTAGE.  When I reboot and attempt to go to safe mode, bios utility I get nothing except opening up windows where sometimes the cursor will open a program or not and the trying to open programs from the start menu or the task bar is hit or miss same happens in the start menu and trying to open a browser.  I am running on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and would like to go back to factory settings, but ag... It all started when I installed Win 7 after a Linux usage for a couple of months. First I thought it was uTorrent that screwed it up so I removed it but it still gave BSODs at least once a day. Haven't had the energy to do anything about it until now so now I'm asking you guys for advice how to get rid of it.
I have activated minidump in Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Setting in Startup and Recovery > Small memory dump (256KB) under System failure.
Got a BSOD a couple of minutes ago but I didn't get a minidump output from it.

Hi, I have a Thinkpad A30 2652-3WG BIOS v1.03, which I recently revived, installing Windows XP SP3. I noted that the graphics driver required BIOS v1.14 or higher. Having an old BIOS v1.03, I downloaded BIOS v1.19 and tried to update. But no matter what I do, whether I choose the floppy or non-floppy version, or even an older BIOS: When I get to the point where I answer "Yes" to start the BIOS update procedure, I get the error: "System program update is currently disabled. The process has been canceled." I have checked through all options in the Bios setup, as well as in the Thinkpad Configuration tool in the Control Panel, but I cannot find any settings for enabling/disabling Bios updates. The only think I've found, is an option to enable update through LAN, which is enabled by default. Any ideas?

Keep the machine unplugged throughout this period of time. Before doing all of the above, please make sure that no Supervisor or BIOS passwords are enabled, so you don't get locked out of the system.  Plug everything back and see how it goes. Good luck and let us know.

After installing Windows 7 and checking device manager, the ATI adapter does show up under the "Display adapters' section, but it has a ! sign on it, and if I click for details, it says:

I also tried this:

which I got to by selecting W7 32-bit > Mobility Radeon > Mobility Radeon HD 3000 series.

It seemed to install OK, but I got a message which I've gotten with previous attempts, which says:

This might seem bizarre, but the Lenovo EOL portal does not seem to contain any drivers and the BIOS update for this specific ThinkPad. Only the G40 and the G41 were listed in the EOL portal, which seems a little odd to me. I noticed that Lenovo has removed their support page for this ThinkPad (http://support.lenovo.com/ja_JP/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?LegacyDocID=SYJ0-006F21E), so it is not there. Looking a little more, I managed to find the old URL for the BIOS' download link - which was (http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/jp/mobiles/7huj05/7huj05jp.iso, or alternatively in FTP form, ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/jp/mobiles/7huj05/7huj05jp.iso). All of these links are dead and I suspect IBM must have transferred the downloads over to Lenovo's servers, but I still can not find the BIOS anywhere in plain sight. The release date and the naming scheme of the last BIOS update was 17th of April 2008, version 1.04 (7HET17WW, 7HHT13WW) respectively. Has anyone got a clue on where is the working download link at? It would help me a lot for the search, thanks.

Hi folks can somebody please save my sanity! I have a thinkpad L512 and I'm trying to install a brand of SSD drive called 'Integral P-series' 128Gb capacity' I've contacted Integral and they were no help at all.The issue is the system does not detect the SSD despite it working fine when plugged in to my desktop SATA caddy.I've come to the conclusion that the system BIOS needs to be updated so it's able to detect the drive, but the versions that I've tried have not made any difference. I'm currently updated to v1.39 which I've acheived by downloading the bootable iso and burning it on a DVD-RW.Is there a newer BIOS update that will work or am I wasting my time? if anyone could send a download link or a solution it would be very much appreciated. The laptop was working fine with a normal SATA drive and there doesn't appear to be anything in the BIOS settings that would stop the SSD from being detected, it's a very basic BIOS.

Normally I don't do BIOS updates unless there's a specific problem that I want to fix, but Lenovo's updater was so insistent that I decided to perform one this week. Bad idea.\ The computer is in a dock with 2 monitors attached. When the computer reboots, there is no display on the external monitors and the built-in monitor displays this message: "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter." I waited 10 minutes for the "normal startup" to continue. It didn't, so I pressed Enter. Nothing happened. Eventually, I found that removing the computer from the dock allows it to boot, but then plugging in into the dock results in many typeface size issues -- particularly for applications that start at boot time. Further experimentation revealed that I can start the boot process with the computer out of the dock and then insert it into the dock as soon as the chasing dots appear on screen. Generally, this is successful. But it's hardly an ideal solution. Is there some additional update that is needed to make the dock compatible with the computer or is there some way that I can roll back the BIOS update? Thanks!

A:A BIOS update has harmed my ThinkPad P50

Hi,

Please indicate which BIOS version caused the problem.  System Update can lag the version on the download site, so I'd have to guess.

As to roll-back, earlier versions of the BIOS are linked at the bottom of the page.

http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-P-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-P...

There are  security mileposts that prevent rolling back very far, but hopefully one of the available choices will work for you.

- If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 1.38 or higher, it is no longer

My ThinkPad X230 laptop has a dead battery.  Replaced battery to no avail so it is essentially a desktop computer now.  It is trying to update the BIOS but update will not run because it wants me to charge the battery first.  As I am unable to do so, is there some way to make the update run?

First, my t400 would only boot with power cord unplugged. Then it stopped booting altogether. I read to press the power button 10 times and hold it on the tenth time and to unscrew the palm rest to unplug the little battery for 30 seconds. That is the only way I can get it to boot now. I picked up a new regular battery today thinking it might be related but that hasn't solved it. Any ideas?

A:thinkpad t400 wont boot w/o reseting little battery behind palm rest

I looked at it closer and to get it to start i don't press the power button at all. I unplug the power cord and after unplugging the CMOS battery for awhile i just plug the power cord back in and it starts up. The first thing i see as it starts up is an error message about a bad CMOS checksum and then i have to change the date/time in the BIOS or it yells at me to do it. After all that it boots into windows 7. Once it is in windows no matter what i do to change the settings of what the power button does it still doesn't do anything. I can restart it fine but once i shut it down it the CMOS battery needs to be reset to get it going again.

I have a TP S1 Yoga (Model 20CDCTo1WW) running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. I utilize it mostly at work and have it hooked up to a Thinkpad Onlink Pro Dock.  I use the dock to run two external monitors, for connecting to our network (through an ethernet cable) and utilize the USB ports on the front/back to hook up a wireless keyboard/mouse, for powering my phone and for thumbdrives.  I had the problem of the Onelink having port "flapping" issues (network would disconnect and connect at random times) as discussed elsewhere in these forums.  The solution that I found was to update the bios.

I proceeded to attempt to update the bios (which I had not done since I purchased it in January 2014).  The current bios version is: GQET32WW (1.12), 1/22/2014.  I downloaded the TP Yoga bios update utility for Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Version 1.18.  I read the README and then ran the utility.  It installed the utility software to a location on the local drive ("c:" ) and then proceeded.  I went through the setup screens, selecting the "Update ThinkPad BIOS" clicking through a few more text boxes (with the warning about not powering off, keeping it plugged in, etc) until it asked to reboot. I clicked OK to reboot, which it did.  This is the next thinkg I seen on the screen:

I waited about 30 minutes and nothing.  I left it on at work and came back ~12 hours later, still stuck on this screen. The power butto... Read more

I'm having the exact same issue. Tried USB CD bootable update as well, but always stuck on "Read current BIOS."Did you resolve this problem in the end?

I have tried multiple time to install the Thinkpad BIOS UPdate - 7/8 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64].I follow instructions to plug-in and close all programs. The installing bars will not complete past 91%. There is a prompt that asks to pick Thinkpad or Model Number. When I click Thinkpad and NEXT the computer SHUTS DOWN immediately (right after warning not to shut down or damage may occur). The computer screen goes black and 3 ominous beeps repeated 3 or 4 times sound. When I restart my computer nothing has updated. I am unable to complete the Critical Update after trying 4 or 5 times. (Tried downloading and deferring install and the same thing occurred.) (In tandem, I'm getting numerous STOPCODE errors from Microsoft after updating with the Fall Creators update. Not sure if it's related. I've had a variety of problems since the Fall Creators update and was hoping the BIOS update might clear things up.) Any advice?

Welcome to the forum! You can't update the BIOS without the battery. Find one that holds at least 5% charge and you'll be all set.  Hope this helps.

Good day,Following a Lenovo BIOS update yesterday, my hot keys which control volume, mute, screen brightness etc no longer function with a single tap unless the Fn button is held together with those buttons.  Is there any way to correct this?  My goal is to have each of those buttons return to working without pressing Fn. I'm running Windows 10 Pro. Thank you very much,

In the beginning of March 2018, there was a critical BIOS update, which I ran... Prior to the update my system's CPU tempratures, while ideal, where very stable and around 55 degrees celsius. After the BIOS update my CPU temprature reads are all over the place. While ideal, the sensor can read 55c and instantly jump to 82c, back to 64c, upto over 90 degrees celsius and so on [you get the idea], with arbitrary temp reads, without any apparent reason...  Has anyone came across this issue?Should I be worried about this?Should I rollback to previus BIOS version? Could I ,even? Thanks
