I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to install the HP System Event Utility from your notebook's support page. This package contains the HP System Event Utility, which enables special function keys on supported notebook models to be programmed. For example, HP System Event Utility enables users to press the Fn+ESC keys to view system information. This package is provided for supported models running a supported operating system. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp76001-76500/sp76383.exe

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad E560. Above the number pad, there are four keys, a calculator, a lock, a sphere that means "internet", and a folder. Three of them (calculator, internet, folder) work, but the "lock screen" does nothing. I have tried:1. Installing "Lenovo Hotkey Features Integration" for Windows 10 off the Lenovo website2. Pressing the "Fn" key while pressing the lock screen key Neither of these things made it work. The key is not physically broken - if I press it in certain contexts (such as when the Desktop is showing) I get a Windows "ding" sound (the same way you get if you press any other key Windows doesn't recognize at the Desktop). For some reason the system just doesn't seem to know what to do with it, even with Lenovo Hotkey Features Integration installed. This is a brand-new install of Windows 10 on a laptop I just bought (used), so I cannot say whether or not the key worked in the past. I *can* lock Windows using the Windows key + L shortcut. Does anyone have any ideas how to get the "lock screen" key working?

I have a Lenovo Edge 2 (one of the Flex Series) that has been working great for the past 10 months.  I usually use the mouse and turn of the touchpad so I don't accidentally move the cursor while typing.  On this machine, the F6 key enables/disables the touchpad.NORMALLY:  a notification comes up briefly on the screen when F6 is pressed (either a diagram of the touchpad, or a diagram with a diagonal line across the touchpad); there is a "live" icon in the lower right hand tray of the display that indicates when the touchpad is disabled.PROBLEM:  Yesterday evening an automatic Windows 10 update occured, and the touchpad could no longer be disabled (the notification came up, but the touchpad worked even when the notifcation indicated that it should be disabled); also, the "live" icon was gone.  TEMPORARY FIX: I uninstalled the Windows 10 update, and resinstalled the Synaptics driver for the touchpad (from the Lenovo website), and everything is back to normal.  I have prevented automatic updates by making my internet connection "metered", but I work in many places, and use different networks, and don't want to have to keep all of them "metered".MY QUESTION:  Any ideas what this update is doing to mess up my touchpad, and how to fix it? (I would like to allow the updates)?

Hi there

I'm a user of Gadwin Printscreen which I have been using for years, I have been using it all week normally i just start the program, hit PrtScn key and it brings up a dialogue allowing me to take snapshots but this time it didn't.

I have tried installing a later version the hotkey does not work on this either, so I put on an earlier image (made last week) I had and the hotkey worked fine, ran windows update, and it stopped working.

Is there any way I can check which program is using which hotkeys ?

I must have set a windows system hotkey?

I have f/8 set as a photoshop hotkey...recently when I hit f/8 it caused a semi transparent deep blue screen with two large gear graphics in the center to pop up over my screen.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how I set that.

I do have a macro program, MacroExpress running, but it does not have any setting in it for f/8.

I thought it might have come from windows media player (I'm running version 11) but I cannot find any setting of f/8 in the WMP menus.

anyone have a guess how I set this? and how to turn it off?

thanks,

Tom O'Connell

I have a g80 touch. My son was messing with it and got a blue screen from Windows. I can not gain access to the restore with out the blue screen reseting the computer. I have tried the one Key restore and it just loads back to the main screen after doing a chkdsk. I am out of warranty and I have had this computer worked on by Lenovo longer then I have had use of it. I am very disappointed in Lenovo for the way I was treated. All that aside, is there anything I can do to restore back to factory settings? I've tried everything I know to do. I am a former Dell technician and I am very familiar with computers but this Lenovo is just not doing anything. It's been replaced once and sent into the factory 7 times for repair and now they refuse to give me any help because it's out of warranty. It went down 1 day after the warranty expired. I am at a loss and thinking of just buying another from Dell. Please if anyone has an idea on how to get this junker to restore please let me know.

I shut down my laptops once every week; they're either in sleep mode or hybernating. My P50 is currenly running Windows 7 Pro with all the drivers installed. I have changed bios settings such that the function keys behave as function keys and only act as media keys (or whatever they're called) when pressed in combination with the Fn key. All hotkeys work as they are intended to.However, resuming from hybernation causes only the reduce brightness key (Fn + F5) to stop performing although all other hotkeys work as they should. Pressing the F5 key by itself works normally; its just the Fn + F5 combination that doesn't work.Anyone experiencing this ?

I have installed a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit onto a new machine.

Like my previous machine, I tried to change the input language from English to Korean with the right alt key.
It doesn't work. I've checked the keyboard with my laptop, right alt key changes the input language fine.

On my laptop (with working right alt key) in "Text Services and Input Languages" the default input language
is set to "Korean (Korea) - Microsoft IME." This is the only input language that has been set up.
I did the same with my new computer, but it doesn't work.

On my laptop when I hit the right alt key, the language would change as shown in the image above.

On my new computer when I hit right alt I hear the Windows exclamation sound and nothing happens.

Any help is much appreciated.

Last night, the Hotkeys were working perfectly, but now as I turned on my computer the hotkeys don't seem to work anymore.

Any kind of help is very much appreciated

A:Hidden Desktop Shortcuts' Hotkey not working

Making shortcuts hidden does not disable key combinations that you assign to them.

Please check whether key combinations are still assigned.
You can use this free program RJL Software - Software - Utility - Shortcut Key Explorer - Download

Toshiba Satellite T130- 16w, Windows 7

Several months ago i deleted some of the factory bloatware on my laptop because of slowdown. Though i checked everything was unnecessary before deleting it, i think i might've made a mistake. Since then i've only used mobile internet. Today I came to turn the wireless on the function+F8 key no longer does anything. The little wireless/bluetooth menu does not appear. Wireless is currently off and I can't get it on.

Wireless is turned on in the BIOS. In the device manager it appears as working and enabled. The computer is in every way set up to use it, I just can't get the key to do anything so i can't turn it on. Weirdly, I can turn bluetooth on and off separately, just not wireless.

I've updated the driver for the wireless but the hotkey driver isn't anywhere on the site. I've tried searching it elsewhere but couldn't find it for windows 7. Can I use the XP one, or one from a different Toshiba model? The T130 section just returns no results.

Does it sound like the hotkey is the issue? Does anyone know where I'd find the driver? Is there any way to turn the wireless on without using the function key (there's no switch)? Like through windows? I've been trying to sort it out for 4 hours and gotten nowhere.

Thanks for reading.

Hi

Win 7 requires the Toshiba VAP (value added package) installation to get the FN buttons working.
Visit the Toshiba EU driver page and there you can find the VAP for Win 7 64bit

If you need the VAP for Win 7 32bit, choose another notebook series and use the VAP released for another notebooks.
The VAP does not depend on notebook series.

I assume this is the "push the Fn button and another key" thingie? If so, check to ensure that the Fn key works by pressing it and one of the other functions to see if that works.

Then test the key that you use to adjust brightness - without using the Fn key. Does that key also perform it's designated function?

This'll let you determine if it's an error with the keyboard.

Hello,
I've got a laptop, sony fz21e, which did come with Vista installed.
Now that windows 7 has been around for a while, my friend has maanged to install it on the laptop, since it can use vista drivers.
Ive added uk extended keyboard to the standard list (which was uk keyboard and some other thingy I dont know). I also set default keyboard to extended.
Now if I want to do a letter with a circumflexy, i type ALTGR+ 6, let go of all keys, then press the required letter. this works.

But for some reason, tilde doesnt work (did in Vista). Normally, AltGr + # (tilde is on # key) followed by required letter. Tried using shift, just in case, but no joy.
Tilde works fine by itself (ie shift #)

OK Thanking you all for Any and all ideas

When all else fails, all symbols have ASCII codes that can be looked up - then just use the alt key plus the numeric code for the symbol u want. Everytime I press 'x' on my keyboard, a folder gets focused, if I have any opened. Which means I cannot write 'x'es, if I have any folders opened. This means that If I want to be able to normally write any text, I need to close all folders first.

The weird thing is, I have no idea how this happened, it simply started to be like this one day, I didn't do anything.

There is one possiblity though. I have a malfunctioning integrated keyboard on my laptop. From time to time, when I'm typing, it inserts a key I did not actually press. It can be any key located on the keyboard. For Instance, I'm writing a message in my Instant Messenger, and my keyboard presses 'enter' in the middle of a sentence, sending it unfinished. In other times, it presses 'esc', which is really annoying if I'm in the middle of a long message, since 'esc' closes the message window. This could be the reason, somehow.

I need to close all folders everytime I go playing a competitive video game, since pressing 'x' effectively minimizes the game and focuses a folder instead.

I am not even sure, if the problem is in the Operating system, or some keyboard driver, or something else...

Any idea how to get rid of this annoying thing? Thanks a lot.

A:How to get rid of a hotkey in Windows XP?

I'm sure you've already considered this, but replacing the keyboard might be the solution. On a desktop, no problem. On a laptop, a bit more expensive but as to difficulty, maybe 5 on a 10 scale or of course the "Geek Goofs" or whatever the big box or local store calls themselves.

I would very much like to modify how the hotkeys work within Windows. More specifically, I want the WIN+TAB aero hotkey, as I'm holding it and going through the windows, I want to be able to hit left arrow to restore the tab and right arrow to close the tab / minimize it depending on if I have control held. Then as I'm hold WIN+TAB, instead of hitting tab over and over again to cycle through the windows, I want up arrow and down arrow to cycle / reverse cycle for me.

How would I go about doing something like this? AHK or AUTOIT?

A:Windows Hotkey Modification / New Hotkeys ?

ahk has a better hotkey implementation. It uses keyboard hooks by default. The auto repeat behavior I've never used. You can get help with coding here:

Hi, folks!

I'm using a program to set global hotkeys in Windows XP, and it works great from F1 to F11, but my problem is: When I try to register F12 as a hotkey, the following error message appears: "Error. Unable to register the specified Hotkey. The Hotkey is probably busy, already taken by another program. Please choose another Hotkey."
How can I determine which other program has taken the F12 key? Which entry in the Windows registry do I have to check? Is it possible to change the according registry entry by hand so that the program will be able to take the F12 key? I really would like to use F12 as a hotkey.

Thanks in advance.

The link http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/ that point to KeyTweak utility solved my problem. I remapped my F12 key to some key that doesn't exist on my keyboard (mute sound, for example) and the Windows begins to use it's key code, thinking it is F12. Simple but very effective.

Greetings. This morning I installed Windows 7 fresh over the stock Ubuntu 14. I've managed to track and install most of the important drivers. However, the hotkey functions (adjust brightness, volume and the like) are still not working. I'm sure its due to lack of some sort of driver, but I can't figure out what needs to be installed to get them to work. I tried installing Lenovo Support Bridge, but it crashes directly on launching. Installing Lenovo Utlity hasn't been any help either; I'm getting zero indication that it's even there anywhere. I request any readers to lead me into the right direction, if possible. Thanks in advance. Regards.

I have classic shell downloaded on my windows 8.1 laptop, and I want to set up a hotkey for the metro start screen. I'm aware of how to make a hotkey through a shortcut's properties, but there's no way to use the windows button as one of the keys.

A:How can I use the Windows Logo Button as custom hotkey?

I use classic shell and SHIFT-WIN toggles between the two types of desktop. Not in sequence, hold shift and press win. This is a setting under classic start menu "Controls" tab.

I've recently installed Windows 8 on an SL500 Lenovo ThinkPad.  One of the three messages in Action Center is a problem with the hotkey utility.  Lenovo's Support page recommended installing gevu65ww.exe.  The current version is 4.22.1000.  After this is installed, I click on "finish" and get the notice that "this program does not support this system.  The volume/mute buttons next to the keyboard have not worked since upgrading to Windows 8.  The Windows 8.1 has the same problem. Any help would be much appreciated!

Are you trying to use Office from the Metro/Start screen, or from Desktop? Screen capture has not changed. It is still Fn Prtsc.

After a tedious upgrade process to windows 10 everything works great, one problem though. I hope the issue is clear to anyone who sees this photo, it's not a glaring issue nor one that is computer breaking. However it is a nusance nonetheless and I want it gone.  I understand that removing the "hpHotkeyMoniter" in the System Configuration solves my problem of having two notifications show up on my screen. However, then all of my hotkeys, except sound, don't work.  Is this my only solution or are their run scripts/ program files that I could remove to solve my problem? I've searched high and low in my system for the files for the driver, no such luck. Anyone else have any Ideas? The only thing I could possibly think of is going back to 7, upgrading to 8 with my upgrade disk that I never used (for a reason), then to 10. Thanks for any suggestions.   Cheers!

I have recently ran HijackThis and notice this in my log. Unfortunately, I do not have a clue what this is for. The description seems to indicate that it is related to video card and display but looking at display details my drivers are Radeon X300 series, if I'm on the right line of thinking. The offending article is as follows:O23 - Service: Ati HotKey Poller - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeI am less concerned about the following but wondering if they need to be removed and, if so, whether this can be done safely:R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://mystart.incredimail.com/R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo!
