Q: Laptop won't turn on without the AC adapter, the battery is ...

Hi, my laptop (HP ProBook 450 G0) won't turn on without the AC adapter although the battery is charged (97%). When the adapter isn't plugged in, the adapter/battery LED (on the left side of the laptop) is flashing really fast (like 20times per sec). When I press the power button, nothing happens. When the adapter is plugged in, I can turn the laptop on. The adapter/battery LED is off, Windows say "plugged in, not charging". I ran battery test and system hardware test and everything's OK. I tried hard reset (pressing power button 30 sec) and it didn't help. Any advice? Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,I have a couple of months old ideapad 720s running win10. Since a few days ago, I am not able to turn on my pc without the ac adapter plugged in. However, the second I turn on the computer, I can take the plug off an my pc works fine just on the battery. The battery is also charging ok, it just won't start the laptop. I don't recall doing any system/driver/software updates around the time this issue first occurred. Also, my energy managment seems to loose "memory" of my settings whenever I turn off the pc and unplug the ac adapter. If the cord stays in all the time while the pc is turned off, the energy managment settings work just fine. So, it seems like a hardware issue to me, but it's hard to imagine what exactly could be the problem, since the battery is charging. Any help would be much appreciated!

Since i bought a new laptop E7270, is it allowed to use my power adaptor my old Dell E6420 also for the new one?   If so i can use one adaptor at home and another in office and dont need to carry the power adaptor always.
Will this impact the battery performance of the new laptop?

A:If it is possible to use the power adapter of E6420 for my new laptop E7270? Will it impact the battery of the new laptop?

If the connector fits (it may not - the older systems use a much larger barrel connector than many of the new ones), AND the power (wattage) is equal or greater, yes.

hi,

Okay so I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It's pretty old as I got it in 2009, and yes the battery is shot to hell. But it has worked in this condition.

The problem is I can't get the adapter to turn on to get my computer powered on. To my knowledge, there's no shortage or exposed wires on it. I can even post a picture if you would like.

Before people also tell me to get a new laptop, I'm broke. This is my only option for now. And as stated earlier, it has worked in this condition before. The LED on the adapter won't even turn on when I keep trying to plug it into different power sources.

If anyone can help with this it would be very much appreciated. Thank you!!!

Hi,

I bought a new battery for my Sony Vaio (VGP-BPL9) about 2 months ago. It worked for a while, but all of a sudden my laptop would not turn on with my battery in there.

The battery is fine, it's new. How can I fix this?

A:Laptop will not turn on with battery

It could be that the Charger can no longer handle chrging the battery and running the laptop at the same time. But how have you confirmed that the battery is good? Just because it is only 2 months old? Or has it been tested in another compatible laptop to confirm this. Also did you buy this battery from Sony or some where else?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop (circa 2003). I know my laptop battery has been drained for a while and I was almost solely relying on the AC adapter's juice to power my machine. Recently, I lost all power to the laptop. I thought perhaps my battery had finally had it so I bought a new battery. Well, then I couldn't charge my battery, so I bought a new AC adapter. I still have no juice. It looks like the AC adapter is working (the light is on it to show it's getting power) but it's not transferring that power to the machine.

I think it may be a bad connection between the adapter plug and the laptop. I don't know how involved of a fix this is.

Any suggestions on what type of fix might be needed? Is it better to just scrap this laptop and get a new one? Thanks for your help!

Hi guys, I need a wireless adapter that supports 5Ghz.
I have an older laptop that has some issues, but the card in it works fine, so I swapped it into this laptop.

It installs fine, I updated the drivers etc, but it will not 'turn on'. When I troubleshoot it, the error is that it is currently turned off. The button to turn on and off my wireless doesn't do anything to change it, so although its plugged in exactly the same as my other, it's as if my wireless button is specially designed for original adapter only.

If it helps, on my other laptop, the wireless was switched on with a on off switch on the side of the laptop, rather than one of the F keys.

The adapter in my laptop is a: Ralink RT5390R
The one I tried to install is a: Intel Centrino advanced-n 6200
The laptop I am trying to install it on is a HP Pavilion G6

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

"We are sorry to hear that the battery did not work well. No problem for return and you will get a full refund if we receive your return within 60 days of the purchase date.

However, before the return please check the following:
1. Make sure that your power adapter and electric outlet work well
2. Make sure that the connection part between battery and laptop is clean. If not, please clean and try the battery again
3. Many new batteries need several charge to reach the full capacity. If it is a newly received battery please recharge several times to allow the battery to its full capacity.
4. If you recently upgrade your operating system to windows 7, it may cause the battery not charge. Please go online for a solution for your specific laptop model.
5. Please check your laptop manufacturer's website for a BIOS update. Recently a few customers reported that the Bios update solved the problem having with their battery.

I've tried running the laptop without the battery and still no success. Also if you leave the power lead in the battery light goes off within a minute...I'm absolutly stuck with what to try next- I've used compressed air etc to try and clean everything out...still nudda.

Any help much appreciated!

A:Laptop wont turn on- dead battery?

Sounds like a failed HardDrive (if it is you will need it replaced)

Just in case though:

Remove all power (battery and adaptor)
Hold down the power ON button for 30secs (dispersing all internal voltage)
Plug the power adaptor in only (for the moment)
Turn on

If it still doesn't work, I think the HardDrive has gone (ie clicking noise)

Last week the fuses in my bedroom suddenly blew. At the same time I heard a loud crack and the smell of burning and smoke. Nothing was on fire so I thought it was something in the wall. I checked the fuses, turned them all back on and everything was fine. I went back to my computer, finished with it and turned it to sleep mode. When I woke up the next day it wouldn't turn on again. Everytime I press the power button I see the light by the plug flash 3 times. I've looked this up and tried removing the battery, draining it of electricity... I've tried everything but I only get those 3 flashes. Have I maybe broken the charger and has my laptop drained of electricity? I can't think of anything else, but that the burning smell might have been from the charger. Can I check this somehow? I have scoured the internet for a similar problem/solution but to no avail. It seems I am the first person in the universe with this problem.

Backstory:

A few months ago, on my ASUS g60 vx laptop, I would notice that while gaming and doing anything really, with the laptop plugged in, it would randomly shift, rapidly, between 'Battery Mode' and 'AC mode' as if I was rapidly plugging and unplugging the AC adapter. It seemed almost as if I shifted it around and made sure not to move it, I could get it to remain in 'Plugged in, charging' mode. So I did that for awhile.

Things got worse and I eventually got a message saying my battery was most likely dead. I got HWMonitor and sure enough, it said the battery was pretty much fried. So I took the battery out completely and just used my laptop plugged in for months with no real problems.

Then Christmas came along and I asked for a battery from my in-laws. They got the exact battery for my laptop, I'm 100% sure of it. I slid the battery into place, it fit perfectly. I turned on my computer and saw the batter had like 33% charge, which I'm assuming it shipped with. Problem is, it wasn't charging the battery. I was still just using the AC adapter power apparently.

For days and days it stayed at exactly 33%. Never would charge. Even if I shut down my computer and left the charging cable in, nothing. So I start my computer, and take OUT the ac adapter. What do you know, it starts draining ... Read more

I attached 2 portable phone chargers to my laptop by usb connection to charge them and a few minutes later my laptop screen went black and laptop will not turn back on.
What may be the problem?

A:Attached portable phone battery to laptop now won't turn on

try disconnecting the batteries and anything else connected to the laptop
then
Lets try doing a hard reset on the Laptop

This will work for Laptops that have a removable battery
Remove the Battery
Unplug the Power Adapter/charger
Now hold the Power Button down for 60 seconds - let go of the Power Button

Now Put back JUST the power adapter/charger back into the Laptop
Start the Laptop up
If it now Starts up OK
we know its working and can put the battery back in - But first we need to use the normal windows Shutdown on the Laptop, before we can put the battery back in.
So, run the shutdown , when the laptop turns off completely
remove the power adapter/charger lead again

Put the Battery back into the laptop
Put the power adapter/charger back into the laptop
Now see if laptop starts {sometimes batteries can fail and stop the Laptop starting}
If the PC starts OK with the battery , then all should be fixed

Hi all

I have an HP 530 laptop (1.6 dual core, 1gb memory, 250gb HDD (was 80gb), windows 7 ultimate 32-bit build 7600 (was vista home basic))

My PC runs like a dream. Recently it started giving me problems though. It dies when it wants to. There's no pattern to it.

Sometimes I'll run it on full battery and it'll hold on for 2 hours. Other times full battery keeps on going for 5 mins and then dies indefinitely. Okay sure, you'll say I should replace the battery, but that's not all.

If I run the PC on AC adapter it can sometimes keep on going without the battery for a while. Other times it'll die after 2 mins. Sometimes it charges the battery full and then keeps on going with the battery the whole day long, other times it discharges a full battery in 20mins and dies. If I unplug the AC adapter for a while and plug it back in it seems to solve all the problems for a short while.

If I delete the AHCPI battery manager in Device manager settings it also solves the problem for a short while. These problems only started when I installed Windows 7.

I have deducted that it could be that:
1. I need to replace the battery.
2. I need to replace the AC adapter.
3. I need to go back to Vista or XP
4. I need a BIOS flash.
5. I need a software fix or setting on Windows 7 of some kind.

Somebody please help!!!
R*

A:HP 530 Laptop battery or AC adapter or software issue. Dies anytime

Hi FriedBiltong,

It could be the AC cord or jack. You can easily check it out by moving the cord, usually close to jack. Look at the light, there you can see if power is connected.
Laptops works without battery too, so you can skip that part too.
Hope it's not too serious..

First of all Im pretty tech savy so you can talk to me in technical terms. Ive repaired countless computers for many people and I never came across anything like this. This is the problem...

Sometimes when I move my laptop or even type there is a complete loss of power. Everything completely shuts off. It happens whether my laptop is plugged in the AC adapter or not. I bought a new battery just in case it was that and its still happening even with the new battery. Event Viewer System logs tell me nothing except that is recovered from an unexpected shutdown. I suspected that maybe there was something loose inside so I took the laptop completely apart and put it back together... still im getting the same loss of power.

Now here's a hint that can possible be causing this. When I get this loss of power I cant turn back on my computer unless I unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery for a few seconds and put it back in.

Any idea's guys? Ive searched the web and havent found much on this issue nor a resolution so if we do find a solution bleepingcomputer.com might be one of the first to figure it out. If need be give me a better suggestion for the title of this thread so it can be searched for easier. Thanks in advance guys, lets see if we can figure this out.

Recently in the process of upgrading my Dell laptop the plastic cover of the CMOS battery broke off. I held the battery back into the casing with a sticker tape. The system worked fine until I took the laptop to work some weeks after. At work I pressed the power button to turn on the laptop, but it wont turn on. Absolutely no sign of power to the system; no power led, no sound or feeling at all. When I noticed some noise inside the laptop, I opened it and behold the button CMOS battery was no more in place.

I got back home and I fixed the tiny plastic that holds the battery to the casing with a little epoxy adhesive, and used the opportunity to replace a new battery. After coupling the machine back the condition remained the same. Any assistance from this great forum would be appreciated to be able to get my laptop up and running again. Thank you all in advance.

I've read that the thing that destroys the battery fastest is overcharging the battery. That's why I want to turn it off. The only alternative that I have been able to find is unplugging the battery which means I have to restart machine from scratch, as opposed to waken it from sleep, every time I want to use it.

Is there a way to stop the battery from charging other than unplugging it?

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

Hi

I have configured ad-hoc network for internet sharing from my PC. Normally I start it by
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
As I noticed the hotspot is automatically turned off when I turn off WiFi adapter. So I have two questions:

How do I turn on WiFi by command line, so that I can control it from various commandline scripts?
How do I configure the script for WiFi for autostarting hotspot whenever WiFi is turned on?

netsh wlan ...

A:How to turn on WiFi adapter from command line / How to turn on hotspot

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

Nowadays, wireless router is a basic device at home because wireless access point (AP) is required. Sometime, a wireless repeater is also needed in a big house especially that with a big yard. Actually, without wireless router, only a Windows 7 laptop can be turned into a WiFi hotpot or a wireless repeater. Many discussions can be found online regarding how to turn Windows 7 laptop into a WiFi AP or virtual WIFI hotpot, however, the internet surfing is based on a local area connection. If wanna extend a WIFI signal to an enhanced new wireless AP, generally two wireless adapters are considered.

Here, differently, with only one wireless adapter but without 3rd-party software, we can setup a wireless repeater in a Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium laptop with only one wireless adapter. This can boost the wireless signal to smartphones, tablet computers, or other wireless devices. Also, the mobility and flexibility allow extending the signal to a yard or a garage conveniently as you want.

It is known that a virtual wireless adapter can be created with a third party software or only Windows 7 built-in commands. But in Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, usually the virtual wireless adapter cannot be created or a hosted network cannot be started. I found a specific approach to clear the issues.

We can follow the steps (successful setup in my two Windows 7 Home laptops),

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and th... Read more

This method is available for starting soft AP of Windows 7 Home Premium laptop when set up repeater, some third party softwares or methods can create soft AP for Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate only.

Hi!

I have lenovo ideapad g585gc 59-356202 e1-1200, dvdrw, 4gb, 500gb, radeon hd 7310m, 15.6" led, ....
Almost 2 years old.
Yesterday it didn't want to turn on, and then I took out the battery and try without it and then turned on and everything is ok.

So,
1. with battery (with or without ac power) won't turn on
2. without battery (of course, with ac power) turn on

The problem is evidently in the battery. I want to buy a new one, but how can I be sure that the battery is really dead?

A:Lenovo won't turn on with battery, without battery turn on!

There are no good practical ways the average owner can test the battery. You have to go on the evidence.

Hopefully someone here can help solve my issue, because I'm practically at my wit's end with it. I recently ran Lenovo's Updater program and it installed a few new things on my Laptop... I don't remember all of them, but I know one was a BIOS update, a Firmware update (can't remember specifically for what though), as well as a few programs I was missing on my computer (like Lenovo Power Management, just to name one).  It's something I hadn't ran for a good year, so I'm sure everything was using an older version! In any case, it seems after I did that, many of the games on my computer started playing worse.  Long story short, after checking out a few programs to monitor what my computer's doing (CPU-Z, and even Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility), I noticed that my Laptop's suddenly only using a portion of what it can do. For example, the core speed should be able to go up to 2.6ghz - 3.3ghz... but strangely, it's staying at a solid 1.20ghz the whole time. No matter if I run any graphic-intensive games or do anything else that might need some extra power, it stays exactly at that number. Here's the weird thing though.  If I unplug my Laptop and let it run off the battery?  It shoots straight up to the 2.6ghz-3.3ghz, as it's supposed to.  As soon as I plug it in again, it drops right back down to 1.20ghz and many of my games run like crap again. I've tried looking up solutions online, but I've found nothing that helps. I've tri... Read more

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

Hi,

thanks for looking in and trying to help. I have a laptop with Windows 7 on it, and as usual today the laptop's screen frame also accomodates the internal Wireless Internet antenna. I am able to use the existing networks when they are close enough to me.

But I wanted to have a better reception, so I bought one of those USB-based Wireless Internet Adapters (WIA) which have mounted a little 5 dBi antenna (dBi = Decibel) on its side. I bought recently a much larger 22 dBi antenna, which I can use to replace the smaller antenna on that WIA. Windows also recognized the USB device correctly (please see the screenshot link: http://www.NADB.net/v/Prom/WLAN.jpg), but the connection tool at the lower right side of Windows (system tray area) displays only those networks which the internal screen frame antenna captures.

I tried already to disable the internal antenna, but then I don't get any network. Why can't the Network Connection icon not show networks the USB WIA might capture? What is it I am doing wrong?

Please don't mind to ask me for additional details here, I will provide them as additional details.
