Q: Windows 8.1 wifi issue ralink wifi adapter and envy 15t j001...

When i was using windows 8 the wifi was good and would never get disrupted. But i updated to windows 8.1 and now when am downloading something the wifi gets disconnected and wont show the network even if the router is on and my phone is still connected to it.I have to toggle the wifi on and off for some 6-7 times and then toggle airplane mode on and off for 3-4 times to get it to discover the network. Is this because of the adapter or driver and my laptop has a ralink wifi adapter. What should i do?Thanks

Preferred Solution: Windows 8.1 wifi issue ralink wifi adapter and envy 15t j001...

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have hp 15 r012tx laptop, i did a clean installation of windows 10. My wireless card has been acting up, sometimes it will drop connections and all i have to do is reconnect and it works fine and sometimes it just disappears from the device manager. When this occurs i have to restart the PC a couple of times just to get it working again. Although sometimes it might without a hitch for a few days before it starts acting up again. I have tried installing drivers from all sorts of place but none seem to work including the ones from official HP website specifically for my model.

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.

When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.

I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.

I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.

I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.

Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.

My HP G-62-452SA notebook has developed a problem with its WiFi adapter since yesterday. No issues till then since I bought it a couple of years back.

The wireless connection started dropping or go into 'limited connectivity' mode. Disabling/enabling the adapter would restore the connectivity but it kept losing immediately after starting the browser (IE or Firefox). Whenever it lost connectivity, the problem was only local to the laptop as other devices in the house could access the internet without any trouble even when this laptop was saying 'No internet access' or 'No network access' or 'Limited connectivity'. There is no issue with the wired connection on this laptop.

Some sites suggested updating the driver which I did from HP's support site. However it was not successful and this caused problem in starting the device "RALINK RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter" - it gave error code(10) in the status/property box. I tried restoring the system to a previous date which helped making the device visible in device manager but the original issue remained.

At present, the WiFi adapter is not even visible in the device manager and the scan for new hardware is not detecting the WiFi adapter. So the situation is worse than what it was at the start!

My router is TP Link and currently I can access the internet through wired connection. I tried changing the IPV4(TCP/IP) configuration for the WiFi adapter as initially I th... Read more

When I found that I could not connect to the internet wirelessly I found that the WiFi and Bluetooth adapter has disappeared from the device list and the light on the wireless key had changed to orange.
I have tried rolling back to previous restore points without any change to the wireless connection.
This appeared to occur after a Windows update.

I have a friend who has an HP Pavilion G6 running a 64-bit edition of Windows 8.

He brought the laptop to me telling me he had issues connecting to wifi networks. I did the normal check to see if the PC was detecting the Wifi Adapter itself by going to Device Manager > Network Adapters ..only for me to get there and find out there were no Wifi network adapters, only a "Realtek Ethernet Controller". I checked HP's website for the laptop's model's wifi driver, downloaded and installed it and got a prompt that the driver wasn't installed correctly.

The F12 key that's supposed to turn the wifi adpater on didn't do anything. I decided to do a system restore to the last time my friend told me it was working and yet nothing.

I'm guessing its a hardware related issue and I might have to open up the network adapter compartment of the laptop and place the adapter properly. I'm so confused right now.

A:Help! Ralink Wifi Adapter Won't Work On Hp Pavilion G6

Hi there. The card may be seated improperly, but you may want to try a few things first. Go to Device Manager and check "Show hidden devices" on the "View" tab. If it doesn't show up then it may well have to be reseated or the card went bad. Also, if you open it up, have a can of compressed air to clean the thing out. Being that it's a few years old, it's probably dusty. Make sure it's unplugged from a power source, the battery is removed, and take necessary precautions on static electricity before opening the case. I highly suggest doing a study of this procedure before performing.

Here's another fix you may want to try if the system does recognize the card:

It will happen in the middle of usage or sometimes when I restart.

The scenario will be that the internet can't connect and troubleshooting might get it to work for a second but open second attempt the driver will either show there is an error in the manager or will altogether disappear.

Temporary solutions that I've found to this problem include:
-restarting the computer, sometimes multiple times
-uninstalling the error-ed adapter and re installing

But as I said these are temporary and the problem persists either the same day or maybe in a couple days.

I presume the issue is deeper than just the driver but cannot figure it out. Any help would be incredible.

A:Ralink RT5390 WiFi Adapter Continuously Uninstalling

Completely remove the device and all its software and reboot. Then do a SFC /Scannow and scan your system for malware. Check your Windows Logs for the System and Applications to see if you can find anything related to the issue. If everything is good do a reinstall of the device and software per the manufacturer's instructions.

I have an HP Pavilion Dv7 Serial: 2CE1452LGF Product: A1T85UA Basically my brother in law owns this computer, and he got a virus on it. He came to me to help him. I tried to reload windows on it, but ran into an issue with the wireless driver not installing properly. I tried many times but I cannot get this driver to install. Then we ordered the restore disks from HP and they faliled to restore. I ran all three disks together, and it gives a message after running all three and trying to restore that the restore failed. I then tried to run it with just the operating system disks, and not the third disck with the drivers on it, and it still fails the restore. I want to know if anyone out there knows why this wireless driver keeps failing to install. It starts up and then just abruptly ends with no error message at all. I have turned off the firewall to make sure that was not the issue, and I am running as the administrator as well. I don't much care if the restore failed, because I have a valied copy of windows 7 Pro on the computer now and it is a valid not pirated copy. I just want to know if there is a trick out there that will force the computer to take this wireless driver so I can use the wireless and get rid of the wire connection. Thank you in advance for your help. -Sid

LOL! Something is stuck... Let's try going in the back door... Click on the network controller in the device manager. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the "Browse my computer for software method," and browse to the installation folder that was created when you ran the driver. That folder will be listed in C:\SWSetup\sp57538. Make sure the include subfolders box is checked, and hopefully the driver will install that way. If not, try the ralink driver directly from ralink...second grouping listed is what you need. http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01_windows.php

It is a trivial (easy) matter and not expensive to replace the wireless card, but your model has the whitelist meaning only a limited group of cards can be installed. Here is the Service manual: Manual See pages 23-24 of the Manual for the list with HP Part numbers.  This is the best of the bunch: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 802.11 b/g/n 22 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 Combination Adapter 670290-001 https://www.amazon.com/Best-topshop-wireless-Wireless-N-Bluetooth-670290-001/dp/B01M0V0G72/ref=sr_1_... See page 50 for "how to". If you are outside the US post back and we can help you find an overseas alternative. Also open it up and be sure you have 2 wireless antenna and not just one. If it is one, post back for more help.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I purchased a HP Pavilion g7 - 2240us notebook in January of 2012.  The manufactures warranty and the 1 year extended warranty that I purchase expired in January of 2014.  Unfortunately, in August of this year I smelled something like electrical wiring burning in my notebook but, when I checked it, I did not see anything out of the ordinary.  In August of this year, I was unable to connect to the internet wirelessly and upon turning my notebook over, I noticed that the bottom of the computer had melted due to extreme heat.  The area of the burn after opening the back cover is just above the Ralink rt3290 wifi adapter.  The adapter was scorched and the "plastic block" that it rested on was almost completely burned up except for the part where the screw secures the back cover. I believe that HP should have a recall for this type of occurance and pay for the repair of or replace the damaged part or the entire computer if necessary.  Although the warranty is expired, poor designs are not expected by unassuming consumers and just like any other recall should be resolved by the manufacturer! Comments are most welcome.  Resolution is better! TB75

After a Windows 10 update on or about 10/27/2016 my Wireless Adapter (Ralink RT5390 Wireless) will not ENABLE.Prior to this update, it has worked without difficulty. After this update...it does not matter what I do....the Wireless Adapter shows DISABLED in Settings/Network. When I ran the command prompt for info on Network connections, the only thing that shows up is my Realtek Family Controller (Hard Wire connection). I purchased a USB Wireless thinking something had gotten corrupted in my Ralink adapter but it also refuses to be enabled. I have NO WIRELESS ability at all and it is really frustrating. No subsequent Windows 10 updates have corrected the problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, replaced and updated drivers over and over again and nothing works.     having problems with wifi adapter not staying connected , can i uninstall the adapter and reinstall again? what is the proper seqence to follow to uninstall and reinstall?

A:wifi adapter issue

Hi, Normally reinstall driver would fix that. From my experiences (and experiments) with my loan HP machine, it has dual band wireless card therefore at the end I gave it to access to both SSID's in my house then no problem so far. Regards.

Hi, I have this usb wifi adapter made by ISSC, model IS89C35, it works great with of my xp pro desktop, I just popped in the driver cd and it installed fine. I went to install it in a Gateway XP Home desktop and the driver shows the yellow ! and won't install correctly!? I disabled antivirus, firewalls, etc. uninstalled, reinstalled, everything, I can't figure out why XP won't install it, it installs it as a usb storage device but can't install the driver from the cd. I ran windows update too. I get a code 31 - windows can't load drivers error. Anybody have any insight into this?

I have been having troble with my Realtek wifi adapter, loosing connectivity every now and then. At times troubleshooting will work by Reseting the adapter and I will have my connection back. At other time post reset the wifi adapter would no longer be available and listed in Device MAnager. Most of the times when I restart my system, it will not find any adapter in Device Manager. I have tried everything, but no success; wiped out my system and did a clean install, updated BIOS, moved back from Win 10 to Win 8.1 (which came in my laptop), tried several drivers and still failure. Can someone help on this...

Hello forum people,

I have the following problem on my Toshiba Satellite R850 running Win7 64bit: I decided to change the wireless adapter so I can connect to the 5GHz wifi network my router provides which wasnt possible on the Atheros wireless adapter it came with. I changed it to a Intel Wireless AC 3160- the physical change went quick and without problems and while the adapter is basically working now the problem I'm facing now is that the F8-hotkey function to de-/activate the Wifi and Bluetooth is no longer working. When I press the hotkey button all the different hotkey combinations show up on the upper part of the screen, but now there's only F1-F7 and F9, F8 just went missing. Does anyone have any idea how to get it back?

Thanks in advance and take care

I am currently using a Thinkpad L440. For about a year and a half now, I have been having random Wifi drops on my laptop. The wifi will suddenly stop working and my browser will prompt me to run Windows Diagnostics. Windows Diagnostics will detect the problem and reset my wifi adapter which fixes the problem. Then the same problem occurs after some time. I tried updating all the drivers, as well as the BIOS. I also tried removing the wifi apapter driver through Device Manager and reinstalling but this did not solve the isse. In fact, the wifi seems slower after doing this. As a note, whenever I run a scan using LSC, under WIreless > Local Connection Test, I get a warning sign. This has been consistent for about as long as the problem has been occuring.  Model: L440BIOS: J4ET91WW(1.91)Wifi Adapter: 2x2 11bgn Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter Appreciate any advice.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

has that resoved the issue or not
it maybe the signal is broadcasting on channel 12/13

can you connect the pc directly to the router with a cable and then
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

enter you details
Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "
( the site now appears to allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail, outlook and yahoo now )

There is also a xirrus gadget, But that does not have all the fuctionality "DOWNLOAD GADGET Vx.xx

I too downloaded and installed the latest Realtek network wifi adaptor and immediately my wifi kept dropping. After extensive research with Comcast Xfinity, it was decided that the software upgrade was causing the problem. I downloaded and installed the previous version of this software and that corrected the problem.Obviously, The latest upgrade is flawed and should NOT be used on HP Notebooks. Realtek denies any problem with this driver despite numerous complaints on Windows and Hp forums with people having the very same problem.Realtek and HP need to get together to correct this problem and do a better job with quality assurance before releasing upgrades that evidently do more harm than help. They run you around in circles with all sorts of "fixes" assuming it could not be the software. Get it right HP before you release the upgrades

I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?
