cannot access microsoft website. DNS error

Q: cannot access microsoft website. DNS error

I recently installed a new hard drive in my Dell Dimension 3000. I loaded XP and all was good but now I can't access certain sites. I read on a post that there are holes in the early versions of XP (probably my original disks) that the updates fix. I tried to get to the msft website to update and all I get is a DNS error.

mi hijack log is enclosed. Any clue?

Preferred Solution: cannot access microsoft website. DNS error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I have an issue very similar to an old case that I found on this forum [SOLVED] Cannot access Microsoft websites
Unfortunately the solution does not seem to work anymore.

More precisely I can not access any windows website (since this morning). Furthermore the general behavior of windows seems to be quickly worsening, standard features such as smart screen do not work anymore.
I have run a malware byte scan but nothing was found, avast does not seem to notice anything either.

If the information can help, I have followed the instruction from the previous thread, the ping of Microsoft ? Official Home Page gave me the same thing (could not find host) and here is the result from the command notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Yet an other comment (this is where my issue becomes strange): I have a laptop running on ubuntu. I tried to connect it to the internet and similar issues happen : I cannot access microsoft websites. Could my modem be infected in any way ?
I have no idea how this works in other countries, but I am french and here the modems are relatively evolved as they can run a number of tasks like tv, vod etc...

The most surprising point is that my internet provider is SFR and I cannot access sfr websites either.

Hi,

This post is the continuation of http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...e-1051314.html, after I was asked to move it to this section.
I run windows 10 on my desktop computer.
My issue started this morning where I was unable to connect to hotmail (firefox can not find the server etc). I then observed than I was unable to access any microsoft website.
In the afternoon, windows started to show heavy issues. No microsoft program worked : the photo displayer, edge, smart screen... even the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
I restarted in safe mode and run malware byte, which did not find anything. When I restarted without internet access everything worked fine.

Fun fact: I am french, my internet provider is SFR, and I can not access any sfr page anymore. I tried to connect to windows pages and SFR pages with my laptop (running on ubuntu) and the same loading error occurs. However (obviously) I have no other new issue with this OS.
Last but not least, my girlfriend is connected to the same modem and she has no issue at all. Note that I use mutorrent and she does not.

Now for the dds logs (which contain some french as my os runs in this language :( )

This one's a real humdinger for me. I just did a fresh reinstall of Windows XP on one of my machines. Ever since then, I can connect to every website on the internet save those at the Microsoft domain. I've seen this error crop up on the internet a few times, but they almost all have spyware as their cause. Since this is a new install, and considering that I haven't even gone out on the internet, there is no way that spyware is the culprit. I can't even ping the Microsoft's IP!

Any ideas?

I have a Microsdoft Access application with a feature that uploads/downloads a file to/from a website hosted at an ISP. Using msinet.ocx, this app has worked fine for years in XP, but does not work on some machines in Windows 7 even though "Microsoft Office Access" is listed in "Windows Firewall- Allowed Programs". It appears that a connection is made to the website but the ftp transfer does not take place. What must be done to enable the ftp transfer in Windows-7. Help here would be greatly appreciated.

A:ftp From Microsoft Access to ISP Website does not work in Windows 7

Hi there
Why not use this as your client - try and incorporate batch commands into your file transfer mechanism from ACCESS.

WS_FTP LE | Free FTP Client from Ipswitch File Transfer

I think also using Ms Access you can use some sort of OBDC for transferring data. My own view of Ms Access is that it's a HORRIBLE piece of software -- if you need a database application doing this type of stuff look at a robust and FREE system like MySQL or any number of decent alternatives.

I think the filetype .OCX is an ActiveX type of control file - apart from security issues it's probably incompatible with W7 and certainly will be for Win 8/9 etc.

If you REALLY want to keep running this application I'd see if the XP system will run in a Virtual machine either in XP MODE (W7 PRO needed for that) or as a full VM.

This *might* work in W7 though -- try registering the file manually. (I haven't got access myself so I can't test this -- backup your system first in vase it hoses up things).

Hi -

I have seen there has been a similar problem to mine posted on here (though it was a while ago!) but after reading it I am very confused and not sure how to approach the problem I have!

Basically I can't access ANY microsoft.com website. When I type it into Internet Explorer the screen just comes up saying 'Internet explorer cannot display the web page' the same for symantic.com (though it is Microsoft I want to access). I can access every other internet site I've tried and it is not a Microsoft problem as I can access them from the other computer here. But do not know where the problem is on my PC.

I have a new Acer Laptop and want to activate my 60 day microsoft office trial and look at updates etc on the microsoft website but due to not being able to access microsoft.com I cant.

Please help......I have spent all afternoon trying to understand how I may fix this and am now even more confused!

Hello,

I am using Windows 7 with Office 2010 on a 3-month old Sony Vaio and had absolutely no problems until I recently downloaded several automatic MS updates (Windows, security, etc ...). Now the content of most websites is inaccessible through Modzilla Firefox and Exporer, through Google Chrome gives me access to a few of them.

The odd thing is that I can get onto most of the websites, but then the content is all skewed to one side and/or the links don't work (or I can't get onto the site at all).

In an attempt to reverse the problem, I started uninstalling some of the recently downloaded updates (unfortunately, there were 40 or 50 in all), but am hesitant to uninstall all of the security updates in the event that they are important and/or may not be the source of the problem.

Any advice (the simpler, the better) would be be much appreciated.

Thanks!

A:Microsoft updates messed up my access to website content

Hello Canadian_Ninja And welcome to TSF,

Generally when updates screw up the system, it's easier to just restore the system to it's previous working state. Every time Windows initiates an update, it creates a restore point that you can go back to, just in case something like this happens.

Go to Start > Search.
Type "rstrui" without the quotes > Hit ENTER.
Choose the restorepoint/date when it previously worked > Restore.

Hello everybody,

Recently, I find that I am not able to access Microsoft and other anti-virus software company websites, then I tried to ping their server but still the the system said that the host is not found. I have tried to use Spybot - S/D and RemoveIT! to remove the malware, but after removing some adware, I am still not able to access Microsoft's website

I have downloaded ComboFix too, but it is not compatible with my OS - Windows Server 2003. Can anybody help or can I post my HijackThis log here?

Thanks a lot.

Don't know if anyone is too familiar with cloudflare (I'm not either) but this one website I'm trying to access, a NSFW site called sankakucomplex, keeps giving me this error:

Connection timed out
The initial connection between CloudFlare's network and the origin web server timed out. As a result, the web page can not be displayed.
Ray ID: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Your IP address: xxxxxxxxxxx
Error reference number: 522
CloudFlare Location: xxxxxxxx
I X'd out any info that might be sensitive. The website owner tells me that my IP doesnt appear on any of his banlists yet the error makes it seem like I am. When he clears the lists I'm able to access the site. I can also access the site via VPN programs like tunnelbear. Does anyone have any clue what the issue could be that's preventing me from accessing the site...? No other website does this for me. I have no knowledge whatsoever about networking unfortunately, so anything would really help me out. I use Firefox and I have no proxies. Thank you.

I'm trying to use a website called Canvas to complete some school work but I'm unable to connect because of an SSL error. I am unable to connect on any browser, on any device on my network. I can't connect on my phone, my tablet, my laptop, or my desktop. On Firefox the error is "SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN". The URL I want to get to is 'https://macc.instructure.com/' but it's telling me it's getting 'www.drogaraia.com.br' instead.

As I said this isn't specific to one device, I'm unable to connect from any device on my network but I can connect from outside my network. When I use the LTE on my phone it will connect without issue.

Any and all help is appreciated

A:I'm receiving an SSL error when I access a certain website

Yeah, URL loads fine for me.

So you are getting redirected to Drogaraia and receiving an SSL error from FF as well? If it's every device and all browsers, has to be some issue with the router. Have you tried resetting it?

Alright guys, I've got some major problems with a computer here. The computer seems to be infected with some sort of virus, with symptoms similar to conficker. I am not sure that this is what is causing our problems, but it's come down with a nasty worm that has the following symptoms:

1) All microsoft update websites are disabled. I try to log onto them and the website will not load. All other websites load just fine.
2) Major websites posting fixes to viruses and computer problems also redirect to a website with advertisements.
3) I get a svchost error that, upon clicking "ok", freezes the computer or makes it run very slowly.
4) Svchost.exe begins to consume a MASSIVE amount of memory, slowing down the entire computer.
5) I am experiencing random redirects to websites.
6) The computer, as a whole, is running sluggishly.

We attempted the following fixes:
1) Installing and updating avast, and running scans. Various trojans have been removed.
2) Installing and updating malware bytes. Various trojans and viruses have been removed.
3) Running windows repair. This did not fix any of the above problems. We are trying to avoid a complete format here.
4) Reinstalling virus scanners and malware bytes, running them again, and fiding more viruses.
5) Reinstalling internet explorer 8.

None of the above work. We do have access to a windows install CD, just for your knowledge, just in case. But as mentioned before, we'd like to remove the problems without... Read more

Dear helper,

Am I infected ?? What should I do ?

Window XP, Internet Explorer 6, Sony VGN-SZ18GP laptop bought in 2006.

System crash last night, with rapid lost of hard-disc drive space (from 15 GB down to 100 Mb within 2 hours). Norton security (2006 version) & Internet explorer were busted afterward, was not able to run at all. The build-in system recovery programme was also affected.

Was forced to use back-up system recovery CD to restore the laptop back in its origin shipping state.

However afterward it is still not right. Installed McAfee (from my internet service provider) but the update function is not working - repeatly state that it can now update because I am not connect to the internet, when I'm actually conneted to your website typing this email right this moment. Also internet access to microsoft and all other common antivirus website (Norton, McAfee, AVG, Kaspersky, Avast, etc) are all block. Hence I can't even attempt to find out what happen to my laptop.

What virus have I been infected ? What programme should I use to remove the malware now that I cannot access to any of the antivirus website or microsoft website ?

Thank you

Jason

I am trying to use a feature of Iheartkroger.com website - I want to use the shopping list and import the ad - This is possible for most of the thousands signed up with this site but some of us get this error message "Javascript and Local Storage are required to make a Shopping List" I contacted the site owner and this was her response "

It it likely a local storage conflict...I have had 2 folks let me know that they are not able to create a list at work and it is b/c their settings are such that they don't have local storage. My tech gal said it is similar to cookies but a newer technology.

I wish that I could help but honestly I have no idea how it all works. Basically the info is saved on the user side ...so if you have any programs or network restrictions it may not work on your computer. I think most up to date browsers support local storage.

Based on the site here: http://dev-test.nemikor.com/web-storage/support-test/
It looks like there are very few (out of date browsers) which do not support local storage. If you are up to date that should not be the issue.

I hope that helps...also, when using the shopping list for the first time...give it a few seconds to build the list. Sometimes it can take a couple of seconds. Mine always seems to be a bit slower right after I have done any system updates on my computer."
I updated my Google Chrome, Firefox and IE browsers to latest as well as Java. I googled the error but it is WAY above my head - I ... Read more

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs
1. DDS.txt
2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.
Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here. Extract the contents of the zipped file to your desktop.
Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please agree to do so.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.
In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...Sections
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once the scan completes, click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt".
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries without proper guidance from an expert user.

Hi there

For a couple of weeks I have not been able to access our business website or the hosting company website from our main office. I can access all other websites.

I can ping the website with no loss through a command prompt. Other people can access the website no problem and I can access it fine from my pc at home.

I have checked the hosts file and the address is not blocked.

I have contacted the ISP and the hosting company and they can find nothing wrong, so I am assuming the problem lies with me.

Does anyone have any ideas why this may be happening?

Many thanks in advance

Have you tried going to Start> Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management. It sounds like there's a corrupted file or a service is denying you access. You are the Administrator of windows? After trying the first scenario go to Start>Run and type services.msc and when the services window opens make sure Event Log, Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI), and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) are started and not disabled. Let us know how you make out.

Hello,
I have a relatively new install of windows because I formatted a few weeks ago so I had a clean start with my new hardware. The only problem it seems is before I could get antivirus and things patched a virus or something caught me.

I dont think my computer is updating anymore and some applications have recently started to crash and my computer has sporadically turned off a few times this week and the temps were fine so i know it was not that.

I can not get to the microsoft update website, because when I try to go there firefox will open and direct me to the site.

I was getting an error on startup saying rundll32 could not find a file that AVG deleted and the files was called dll32 and sm. I will work on finding out what it used to be called.

I have an application called Prio installed which is a great extension to task manager that expands it abilities and it showed that I have unsigned versions of svchost, alg, and wimprvse running and some other unverified processes that are running under system.
The other suspicious proccess is unsecapp.exe

There are also quite a few open connections sitting on listen for my computer if needed I can put up a wireshark analysis.

Right now I have AVG, ad-aware, a-squared, and Secunia PSI installed.
A-squared pick up some files that AVG seemed to miss yesterday when I installed it so that got me concerned with AVG.

Thank you in advance.

I receive the following error message when I try to open a database:

"The database is not available at this time"

It occurs if I try to open the database right after I perform a docmd.quit on the same database and it closes out. Not sure what would cause this error. Thanks!

A:Microsoft Access 2000 Error Opening DB

Did you create the database? If not go to the database creater / administrator, otherwise cut out all the sensitive data, and attach a copy to this thread. It's probably something to do with the way the database is set-up.

Haven't come across this myself, may be a common known issue.

Hello all,
I am having an issue accessing the Developer API access page within the Microsoft Security Response Center website (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/msrc). When I click on Customer Guidance > Developer API access, or navigate to https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/developer,
my browser first asks me to sign in and click which account I would like to use. I click my desired account, and it briefly redirects to the Microsoft Developer API Access page, but then after a split-second it redirects me back to the sign-in page. Is it
a requirement to have a specific type of email associated with the Microsoft account in order to get past this?

Thank you for your help!

I have created a macro that will run an access database query and copy the results into Excel. It runs fairly well except on one PC where it gives me a:

"Run-time error '3706' Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."

The error occurs in this particular line of code:
' Open connection to the database
cnt.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _
I'm not sure if I have to change the version of the provider and if this is case how does one go about doing so.

Thank you

Look at it's version of ADO in the ODBC manager. Might just need to upgrade.
