Automatic share and unshare program?

Q: Automatic share and unshare program?

Hi all

Just curious to know if there is an app out there that can enable and disable a group of shares under one button? Or is this wishful thinking?

Thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Automatic share and unshare program?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So, I share a folder once. By adding "everyone" to the list of "people to share with." Then, I unshare it. All of a sudden it has a "lock icon" on it that I can't get rid of.

Why?

A:Share folder once, unshare it, now it has a lock icon?

AFAIK, the lock icon is just Windows's way of saying "this file isn't shared with anyone".

Okay, so this isn't super important but it would be nice. I have two computers and I would like to file share the computers over the network (wireless) automatically. I have tried to do my own research and have had no luck. If any one could help me, it would be very appreciated.
Thanks!

hi all

after i found out that my C drive was set for share i disabled that and it looked all worked fine this way....but when i restart/start my computer its back ENabled and i donno why.

i wonder what it causes and for what purpose i have to share my C drive.

i am a single user on a home pc

i thought maybe this is because of the system or some update programs need this settings...but seen the fact that there seems to be trouble with my firewall for the second time, i wonder if it is a an intruder. the firewall is set for some programs to ASK for internet access, but it doesnt ask..programs just go on net with starting the computer like i would have set them on "remember setting"....so i wonder if there maybe spy-ware or other ugly stuff on my computer

i checked with NAV and pest patrol but both tell me my computer would be clean

Due to problems between Vista and a Sync program, I am left with a drive C: that has several folders which "may or may not" be shared on my home network.

Is there a way (perhaps a command line or utility program) to pass thru my C: drive and completely UNSHARE all folders & files, just like after a fresh installation?

Of course, it shouldn't mess with the <share>$ items.

As of now, every time I select "Stop Sharing" to folders that really aren't being shared anyway, I get a dreaded error: Cannot stop because 'This folder is in a shared folder' which, or course it isn't.

I just want to clean things up and start from scratch.

A:How can i UNshare my C: drive

Hi,

Go to the Network and Sharing Center, & turn off public folder sharing.

Select manage on your "My computer" icon (Desktop or Start menu). Now go to "Shared Folders" & identify the shared folders on your system to check if you need to stop any more folders.

To stop the other folders you will need to find the uppermost folder & stop that folder share.

Please post a picture of the results to help us assist you further. OK?

I have just shared a folder on my harddrive. Now how do I unshare it???

I realize I'm more of a novice than I thought. If I share a folder, does it look different in Windows Explorer?? From past experience I thought it did.

I thought I did everything right. When I look at the network, I see the folder there and see all the files in it. The permissions are everyone; read, full, change. If the folder was not shared, would it show up here?

Once I know I'm right on the sharing side of my old computer, I'll go to my new computer and find out why it doesn't have permissions. I see the folder on my new computer under the network but get "Windows cannot access \\Haf932\pete" (you do not have permission to access \\Haf932\Pete) which is the folder of interest on my old machine.

Any help would be appreciated. Is the the proper forum spot for these kinds of problems??

I have a folder on my desktop which I have shared with another PC through a wired router setup. I now want to stop sharing it.
I navigated to it in Explorer, highlighted it, then clicked Share With and chose Nobody. The folder however still is shared. I also logged off and rebooted with no change.

A:How may I UNshare a folder?

The "Share With" feature usually applies to Homegroup folders, it should help to go through the C drive and use the NTFS sharing settings to remove the share.

Try going through the C drive then use the Advanced Sharing tab and the Security tab to remove the share's.

Hi all,
Im having a strange problem that I just cant fix.
I got Vista ultimate x64 runing and sharing disk with files all good.
Now when I copy files from Windows 7 machine to that network share in the middle of copy vista unshares all shared drives...? And it wont share until reboot.
I tried smb2 off/on registry fix (on vista and windows 7 all combination's) that didnt help. Searched up and down the net and still cant find solution. As the machine is 8 proc with server board I even tried to bridge 2 net adapers (that work fine) hoping to maybe solve buffer issues...still nothing. Suspicious is the fact that copy brakes sharing on "larger" files over 10MB. Smaller ones copy fine.

Windows 7 and vista are 64 bit. Strange thing is that it used to work fine but now its not. Maybe some of the windows updates messed it up but I dont know.

Thank you for your time.

A:unshare while copy

We found the solution that worked (so far will see after few days). On vista in regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters
Size value 3
And give background processes higher resources.
And now it works. Maybe it helps someone else.

So, here's the situation:

I'm currently trying to help a business set up their client-management program to work in two separate locations on two different high speed connections. On a LAN, the program essentially runs in two separate instances from the same executable. I'm not able to transfer the program itself, because the license does not carry over to the second computer; so basically, I have to run it from a shortcut to the primary PC.

My question is this: does anybody have an idea to run the program (as a shortcut or some type of server) from this location to the primary location, in a similar manner as the LAN computer using the shortcut?

HEADDESK. I am so frustrated. I am coming here since I am out of options myself (you know I always try to fix my own problems first). Windows 7 64bit Home Premium.

A long time ago I shared a file on my desktop. It was just a tiny image, nothing important. The network path to it was Network\[me]\Users\[me]\Desktop. I unshared that file and deleted it, but still that path exists. When one attempts to browse my network, they see The Public Folder and my Personal folder, even though it only links to my Desktop, and that folder is empty. There is nothing else shared. I've right clicked my Users folder, it has no sharing enabled... I have right clicked the desktop, not sharing enabled. I've tried changing my Workgroup name, turning on/off public folder sharing, network discovery, file and printer sharing, with a restart between each new combination. NOTHING. I cannot UNSHARE that location. Can anybody help?

Im on a network with two computers running Win 7 Home. I want to share the Public folder on my laptop to my desktop, so I can transfer files, but nothing else. My roommates have access to the desktop, and I dont want them getting into my pictures and documents.

I have set up sharing, and when I go to the Desktop, I am able to see my Public folder, and my User folder (Chris). The problem is, I cannot unshare the Chris folder, which is the one with all my pics and documents. I have right clicked it on my laptop, and hit share with-nobody, and went into the sharing properties, and uncheck the share button, but no matter what, it still shows up. If i right click the whole Users folder, and unshare that, it works, but then I dont get access to the Public folder either.

Can anyone help? I read a few threads on here about this same issue, but it seems nobody ever figured it out.

Hi there, Can someone tell if how to stop sharing multiple folders at once in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit? When I go to Computer Management / Shared Folders / Shares and right-click a folder, there is no option to "Stop Sharing". Is there a way to fix this or another way to stop sharing multiple folders at once? Or a third-party app? All the posts I have found online just resort to going to each individually shared folder in Windows Explorer and use the context menu to unshare them one-by-one. Cheers.

As said before the kind of program i am talking about is one where we could directly connect, or one where we could easily find each other, maybe just by typing in username ect.....

the easiest way to do what you want is to set up an FTP Server.

FTP is secure if you make sure that you assign accounts and not set it up as anonymous!

many different FTP Programs out there! F-Serv seems to be one of the most popular!

I'm very beginner with networking but I'm capable enough to follow menu's around and understand what certain options mean. Maybe I'm missing something here but I am afraid I'm not.

I have a desktop pc, and a laptop both connected to wireless internet in a house with about 5 other computers getting internet off of the same wireless router. A while back I had figured out how to share my printer which is wired to my desktop, with my laptop but without sharing any files and figured i had done it. Today I had to figure out why the printer had stopped printing from the laptop and i noticed that in the network area of the explorer I could see my users files on the desktop from my laptop and vice versa. I have been trying everything that seems to be there to disable sharing these files, other then disconnecting from the internet. On my desktop I can right click on the users folder and choose share>share with nobody. I did that. I also went into the advance sharing options on both devices and tried disabling everything but network discovery. From what I gather discovery is just letting me browse, and not actually showing me that things aren't available to share. So with everything else turned off, like file and printer sharing, all that other stuff, I can STILL see and move and use the files that I have "shared with nobody" even regardless of the fact that I have disabled printer and file sharing.

What the heck is going on here? Please tel... Read more

A:Concerning discovery: I can't seem to unshare my users folder.

I use the same User Account on all my machines and also noticed how the Users folder suddenly and inexplicably gets shared as soon as I enable file sharing on Vista or Windows 7. I was surprised, as XP does not work that way. However, since somebody else still would need to know and use my account and password I haven't worried about it. I even find it convenient to be able to easily access my own stuff from a remote computer.

I am trying to collaborate with another musician. We've seen websites where you can pay something like 10 dollars a month to have live jam sessions with each other online but it's more ideal for groups of 4 people. We both have high speed connections and I figured there's got to be a free 2-person oriented alternative we could use to directly connect to each other over the web while achieving high audio quality and low latency. I am running Windows XP (SP2) on a Sony Vaio VGN-S360.

My preferred program for transferring photos to my laptop from my Sony Cybershot is the Sony Picturegear Studio software that came loaded on my laptop. A few weeks ago, I installed an HP all-in-one printer that came with its own photo transfer software. When I plugged my camera into the USB port, I got the Windows menu that asks you which program you wanted to use to open the files on the attached device. I mistakenly selected the HP Photosmart Transfer program, and I accidentally left the box checked that tells Windows to *always* use this program to open similar documents in the future.

How do I fix this?? I've read forum after forum, and the only thing I can find is how to change an individual file extention association (like a .jpg) to always open with a certain program. This does not seem to fix the problem, as I do not want to open these files; I want to transfer them from an external device. I tried to uninstall HP Photosmart Transfer, but I stopped when it warned me that I wouldn't be able to use my printer any more.

Before I told my computer to always use the HP software, I was given a choice of programs to do the transfer. How do I get back to that point?

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Also... I would like the disc ejected

I currently use Imgburn
Which does the job
I find it annoying having to do the extra clicking
Lazy? Yes, kind of - but I have burn an amazing amount of ISO - all different ones

Or maybe I should think of an automated solution that launches Imageburn and then selected options??
If so... where would I start with this?

Thanks

That would probably be easier because I don't know of any burning program that will start burning by double-clicking a file.

Get AutoHotkey and read through the quick-start tutorial to get an idea on how it works.

You'd write a script that launches ImgBurn and then send keystrokes or mouse clicks to simulate what you normally do to burn a disc.

Then you could to buy a robot to take the discs in and out of the drive.

I am trying to make a program automatically load along with the basic drivers and files windows loads in safe mode.
I've seen several people doing it, so how can I do it?

A:Automatic program load in safe mode

You should have a complete backup of your system so that you can re-image it in case you brick the computer.

The steps that you need to take depend on what the program is and how the program works. What is the program that you want to automatically run while in the safe mode?

If the program that you want to add to the safe mode is a service, then this info might help:

TuneUp came together with some other program that I installed. It pops up every time I open the computer. I thought maybe it was a useless program and I should delete it, but it seems like similar to virus removing program. Should I go ahead and click on "Run Maintenance"?

A:TuneUp Automatic Maintenance - is it a reputable program?

Should I go ahead and click on "Run Maintenance"?

No

Most of the items are relatively harmless but the registry cleaner is not. Registry cleaners have few benefits and generally cause more problems than they solve. They are of some value when used by an expert to solve a specific problem. But most people who use them have only a vague idea of what the registry is and in such hands they can be dangerous.

I don't have a very high opinion of these one click optimizers. I would never use one.

I'm looking for Good Free Automatic Backup Program that works on XP/Vista/Win7, that I will be able to configure on a standalone user's PC, and that can just make automatic backups of files (Like my documents user folders) to a External HD that will always be connected.

I'm trying to find something that is free, and robust enough to keep working on its own without needing any help, and the users will be less technical and will not be able to trouble shoot many backup issues.

Last week, I noticed that my PC has been getting frequent windows update(the yellow icon). I realized that non of my other pc's were updating. Than I noticed that it was very slow to boot and sometimes the cursor would irratically move. I went into add/remove programs to find the remove buttons missing from all of the programs. I used Avast, adaware, spybot, malwarebyte, trendmicro, microsoft security and more. But it keeps coming back. I even tried restoring back 30 days to no avail.

Please help!

You do need to be admin on both (and yes they are different). You also should not be in Program Files as that is solely for legacy for 32 bit apps, shouldnt be anything there that you need to change.

I have a unusual case where I need to setup two mapped network drives as two different users to the same share location. When I attempt to map the second drive after inputting the user name and password the system goes on its merry way for a few seconds
and then returns me back to the username/password input.
If I change the second mapped network drive to use the IP address the two shares work happily. If I manipulate the host file and point two paths to the same address then I can also work around this problem. However, I would simply like to know why I am blocked
from setting two mapped drives to point to the same share with different credentials?
e.g.
TestFolder on TestServer is shared to TestUser1 & TestUser2 where the IP of TestServer is 192.168.0.2.
Case1
If I map S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser2 it will not work.
Case2
Mapping S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\192.168.0.2\TestFolder using TestUser2 it will work and I can access the folder as the two different users.
Case 3
If I map S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1 it will also work (but I am accessing S: & T: as the same user).
Why do cases 2 + 3 work, but case 1 does not?

Hey all,

I've a similar problem to a previous thread, but the other way around:
I did a repair on XP Home Edition, and then deleted a profile that was causing some problems. With my new Admin account, I went to access a particular folder, access was denied because the sharing was turned off in the previous profile. Once again to refer back the the previous thread

HTML:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/461998-folder-security-xp-home-edition.html
, the appropriate check box is greyed out.

If this was Pro, then I would not have a problem, but short on reformatting the OS (and wasting a day reinstalling most of my apps) I cannot find a solution. If anyone can help it would be tops as there are details I need to get at sooner rather than later...

TIA!

PS I'm running SP2, not that I think it should make a difference...

Not sure if it helps did you try logging into safe mode to check the security settings for that particular folder.

Dear admins, power users etc.
The last 36h hours i spend googling my problem but couldn't get any help to solve this issue. I have multiple Windows 7 machines (32bit and 64 bit) at home.

One machine shows my samba share in the network environment and i can access it via double click perfectly.
Another machine doesn't show my samba share in the network environment. However I can access it via \\Share\mount or via \\ip\mount (after accessing the mount it shows up in the network environment, not sure what causes the problem of not showing it in the network environment initally)
The "headache-giving" machine that i refer to in the introduction doesn't show the share in the network environment nor allowing me to access the \\Share\mount or \\ip\mount but only connecting to the samba share via mounting it as Networkdrive X,Y,Z...
As one can imagine googling this problem is not the easiest task and gives you a lot of false positive results. Trying to access my Share via \\Share\mount or \\ip\mount gives me the following error message:

(i apologize for it being german, however I hope that the smart ones will understand it anyways! )

As 2/3 or the windows machines can access the samba share, samba smb.conf problems can be excluded. So I strongly assume it is a Windows problem. I am running MCAfee Virusscan Enterprise. Windows Firewall is disabled and the machine is also in the same "WORKGROUP" as the samba share.

I really hope anyone of you have an idea tha... Read more

A:Samba Share Networkmounting as X,Y,Z works, \\Share\mount not

The error message is default when system cannot resolve the network address. Something is wrong and it could also be on the other end (Mac or Unix / Linux machine).

On the problem Windows rig, can NET VIEW see the Mac/Linux machine? Can you ping it?

Greetings,
I have an odd issue.. a user reports that they are unable to access a network shared folder from their PC. Here is what I have gathered so far:
-The network share is from their PC located at C:\SQL2014. The share name is SQL2014. Their hostname for this example is "ABC".
-If I attempt to connect to the share from the user's PC ABC to \\ABC\SQL2014 I get the generic error:
  "Windows cannot access \\ABC\SQL2014
You do not have permission to access \\ABC\SQL2014. Contact your network administrator to request access."
-If I attempt to connect to the share by ABC's IP \\192.168.1.140\SQL2014 I can access it.
-If I attempt to connect to the share by ABC's FQDN at  \\ABC.domain.com\SQL2014 I can access it.
-If I map ABC\SQL2014 as a drive letter, I can access it.
-Connecting to this share works fine from any other PC other than ABC.
-I've confirmed the error is affecting any profile old or new on ABC, which means it is a PC-wide issue on ABC.
-If I share C:\SQL2014 as ANY OTHER NAME OTHER THAN SQL2014, I can access it. As in if I share C:\SQL2014 with the share name SQL2014a, I can access \\ABC\SQL2014a.
-Deleted the share and recreated - same issue.
-Created C:\Test and shared it as SQL2014, cannot access \\ABC\SQL2014. It is NOT an issue with the actual SQL2014 folder.

From internet searches I've found the following solutions do not affect my case:
-Clearing CSC/Offline cache (most common working solution)
-C... Read more
