Dell WL6000 Speakers - Rear Speaker Not Working

Q: Dell WL6000 Speakers - Rear Speaker Not Working

Well, I've had it for a couple of years now, and for the past year (I know, I'm a bit slack on it) the Rear speaker has not been working. This all started when I reformatted the PC, and switched it back to Windows XP. I currently have it back at Vista at the OEM operating specs. Not really sure what it is, when I check under the "Configure" button, it only lets me select Speaker (2-channel stuff).

Now the awkward thing is, the Subwoofer works underneath the computer when I have Windows Media Player open, even though it's not recognized. As does the Center Speaker underneath the Monitor.

So my question is, why does the Rear Speaker not work, and is there any way I can fix it? I push Connect on the back of it, and everything. (Note: It's the wireless one, so I'm praying it's not a faulty equipment problem)

I've got a Sigmatel Driver on the thing, some C++ Major Audio blah blah nonsense, and I believe that could be the cause, because they installed some other driver I'm almost certain than this PoS =/.

Any help would be appreciated, and I would really like to thank you guys for having this forum around ^-^.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Recently, my uncle had a virus on his computer. He took it to someone to clean it, but the person also deleted many of the programs on the computer. Now his Dell WL6000 5.1 speaker system does not work. When trying to play a file on Windows Media Player, the following message appears:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

Is this because the software has been uninstalled, or is it something else? When I went to the control panel's "sounds and audio device" settings, it says that there are no audio devices found. Please help

A:Dell WL6000 5.1 Speaker Problem

My name is John, and I work at Dell headquarters.

It sounds to me as if the system's audio driver has been uninstalled. Depending upon the manufacturer, you should be able to download the appropriate driver from their website. If the system is a Dell, you should be able to get the driver here:

After you download and install the correct driver, that error should go away.

If you need any help from there, let me know, and I'll do what I can.

Because of the recent fiasco with Creative / Daniel K the straw has broken the camels back and I am trying real hard to not use my X-Fi XtremeGamer, and never buy Creative again. Although I didn't personally have many issues with it (and Alchemy is great for Vista...wish there was one for everyone) I don't want to spend my life wondering what will happen next with my drivers..

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R rev 1.0. This board has the Realtek ALC889A chip and when I first started using it in XP I was so very impressed with both the quality and the features. Specifically speaker fill. I love upmixing my music to 5.1 and at the time I was having weird issues with Creatives own expansion setting so I happily used my onboard for quite a while.

Then I decided to upgrade to Vista and noticed immediately that things were not working the way they had on XP.. DirectSound removal aside, I couldn't even get music to upmix properly.. So here I am again, trying to get by without my X-Fi and I've installed the latest drivers from Realtek's web site for Vista x64.

When I enable speaker fill, the rear speakers output sound at a pretty low level, but when you get up close to check them, it is clearly putting out distorted audio. The only way I can describe it is that the rear's sound like you are listening to low-bitrate audio from an Internet station, and seems to be concentrated at the high end of the freqency spectrum. I don't understand why it worked fine in XP x64,... Read more

Hi, Zach, and welcome to the forums.

You might try Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to remove your currently installed drivers, and then try installing the latest version only....
Download the Driver Sweeper package, and install it. Reboot into Safe Mode Run Driver Sweeper and select teh Realtek Audio drivers for removal. Remove them Reboot and allow to normally boot into Vista Install the R1.96 drivers.
See if this method allows for hte driver to work correctly.

I recently purchased a Dell Inspirion 530s with a WL6000 5.1 surround sound speaker system (Vista operating system). The speaker system works very well except that the wireless surround sound (rear) speaker does not work when I play music/sounds etc. It does work when tested. Any ideas on how to make this speaker work?
I loaded to most recent version of the driver.

Hi, just recently bought new system, screen/speakers *(x530s)/tower, etc. the whole deal. Plugged in the speakers and they are working great apart from the 2 rears arent working at all. Speakers aren't faulty (tried swapping them with the front 1s, worked fine).

All plugs are checked and are plugged correctly.

Went into Realtek HD Manager, set it to 5.1 but still no sound through the rears wen testing them. Read through other posts and another guy recommended setting 'environment' to 'ROOM', but nup, still no success.

If this helps, under control panel/sounds/speakers (their if 3, speakers which is selected/tickd, realtek hd audio 2nd output, and realtek digital output.) as i run the tests for the rear speakers through realtek i can see the bar moving up and down.

Anyone have any other suggestions or driver updates?, Ty

I had to format my hard drive the other day, and after reinstalling windows and all the drivers, my rear speakers have stopped working. I have nVidia sound built into my motherboard and have Creative surround speakers connected to it.

I also have a SB Live in my computer, but I haven't installed the drivers for it, because I prefer the sound on the motherboard. However, despite disabling the SB in system properties, it still won't work.

What I find really weird is that when I click on my nVidia control panel, the output level displays the rear speakers as active, but still nothing comes out of them. I'm certain that there is nothing wrong with the inputs or the speakers - I have tested them.

I am completely bemused.

Please help! I would be really grateful to anyone who give me some good advice.

I have a 5.1 Creative LX520 Speaker, I have set the sound output to 5.1 in control panel, but when I test the speakers the two rear speakers does not work. But if I change the setting to 7.1 it works, but the sound from the rear speakers are like distorted. Please help.

A:5.1 Two Rear Speakers Not Working

Your problem actually helped me figure out why my rear speakers weren't working! You mentioned that the 7.1 setup makes the sound come out of the rear speakers - this made me think that perhaps the rear speakers had instead been mapped as side speakers in the Realtek software.

To fix this, Hover over the coloured ports on the right hand side of the Realtek software until you find the one that says 'Rear Speaker Out (Speakers)'. Double click on it and change it to 'Side Speaker Out (Speakers)'.

Now, Windows and Realtek will both play out of the rear speakers correctly. Hopefully this helps someone in future...

I have a set of Logitech x-540 5.1 speakers and the rear ones refuse to work. I have an X-Fi Fatal1ty and all the drivers/software asociated with it are updated. There's nothing on logitech's site as far as software or anything that I could find to match these speakers. They are plugged in correctly. The speakers do work. When I switch the front (green) plug on my sound card to teh rear or center jack on the sound card while leaving it pluged in the front position on the subwoofer all the correct speakers work. It's almost as if the rear and center/sw jacks on the sub were put there by mistake because they seem to serve no purpose whatsoever. check the mixer - you may have to turn the volume up on the rear speakers..

I know it sounds a bit silly, but I've turned them down when using the CMSS surround in 5.1
on the Creative X-Fi, and then wondered what was wrong when I've switched back from 2.1 stereo..

you should be able to get the 5.1 configuration, so keep trying to correct that one,
rather than switching to 7.1

PS. the plug colours should match, but make sure that you have connected the speakers correctly

This is pretty common for some reason.

Make sure your speakers are plugged into the right ports then go into the Creative control panel and enabled cmss

Stereo sound like music will by default only play in 2 channels. You will have to use your soundcard to drive all 4 channels.

hi all,
I have had a Creative Soundblaster Audigy Platinum eX 5.1 soundcard for the last 3 years. No problems with it until now - the rear 2 speakers have stopped working with only a minor hiss coming out. The sub-woofer and front 2 speakers do give out sound fine.

When I boot into Win XP each time, in the device manager it says "Multimedia Audio Controller is not installed" and there is there is a yellow-circle icon next to it.

The spec of my PC is as follows:

AMD 2400+
Win XP (SP2)
1GB ram
250GB hard drv
Ati Radeon 970 Pro graphics cards

When I go to the Creative website and do auto-update for the drivers, it says "no Creative product was detected on your machine". I have installed the Creative drivers from before, as in device manager I can see clearly "Creative Sound Audigy".

I did delete the sound drivers and re-installed them, but I still have the problem with rear-speakers

I opened up the PC to check that the cables are connected (cable to DVD-rom, power & IDE). They all seem fine. Even at the back of the sub-woofer, all connections seem fine.

Is there a way of testing the speakers with a program, as I feel there may be a hardware issue although bot sure what with - the soundcard or speakers???

I hope someone can provide me with some useful advice, I heard you guys were good. Thanks in advance./

I'm currently on a laptop so I bought the Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 Pro (usb soundcard). I really wasn't paying attention since it was plug n play, but when I tried to adjust the equalizer it wasn't working (in the Creative Console). So I go into the windows "speaker setup", and only the Front Left and Right will have a sound coming out of them individually. When I play music, all the speakers have sound but it's not as powerful as they were on my desktop using another soundcard.

I'm using the Logitech Z-5500 speakers. Everything is plugged in on the subwoofer properly, and I have tried the 6ch Direct AND Optical. Both have the same issues.

Like I said before, the Creative Console has no effect on my speakers whatsoever. Any ideas?

A:Rear Right, Rear Left, Sub, and center speakers won't work?

Ensure the default audio device is now the Creative USB card. The speakers should be connected to the USB card. And the speaker configuration, setup, and testing can be done in the Creative software.

As for the beeps, is there a pattern to the beeps (beep code)? You can look up beep codes in the manual. Depending on what the beep code tells you, you may want reseat RAM modules and PCI-e cards in their slots and/or try to clear BIOS:
Power off, unplug. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec. Open case and remove motherboard battery. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec. Reinstall the battery, close up and reboot...

Ive got a SB128 PCI sound card.. and surround soud speakers plugged into it. now, i figure its probably in the speakers somewhere.. but.. the rear speakers are much quieter than the front ones are. i switched the front to the back and vice versa and still, the ones plugged into the rear were quiet. in creative configurator i found the rear volume to be full.

so.. im wondering.. is it possible to make the rear louder, either by changing something directly or by lowering just the front after turning up the general volume?

A:rear speaker volumes..

Rear speakers are supposed to be quiter than front. So, at least nothing is broken...

I don't know if you can adjust it much, other than with manual controls (if they exist) on your speakers.

The only real options you have are in the SB Mixer program. You could try different settings in there as far as what kind of speakers you have. There are some "simulated 3D" and other weird ones, if I remember correctly, that make a decent difference in volume.

I reconnected throgh the front i/o port and the sound is fine- my problem is the rear port-I tried headphones to the rear port and no sound from right ear- did I loose rear right through the rear port?

A:rear panel right speaker

Normally, when the front jack is used,it disconnects the rear.
The plug pushes the contacts outward when the plug
is connected.
Those contacts can become weak and not pull back in
all the way when the plug is removed.
Might try putting the headphone plug in the front part
way and wiggle it around a little to see if you can get
it to make contact again.
My HTPC does the same thing because of weak contacts in the jack.

For rear speaker output in winamp for most of us you need to use the "speaker fill" mode , however this can cause rear speaker distortion in music , it sounds crap. However i found a fix. Download the plugin "A3D_Output_Plug-in" for winamp , go into winamp options-Output change the output from directsound to the A3D plugin.

Go into General Purpose , change to the A3D setting and config it , tweak the settings to your desire , mine is like this below

Reload winamp , Perfect quality sound through all speakers no more distortion and works great in vista and windows 7!

As above.

I have a 4.1 surround system that I've been told can work with just the 3 port motherboard sound (red-green-blue ports), but the only sounds are coming out of the rear right speaker. Which is still screwy because it's activating RR when it should be coming out of RL.

I believe I have it set up correctly:

Green jack => Green port (front speakers)
Black jack => Blue port (rear speakers)
Red jack => Red port (subwoofer)

This is what it looks like from the Speakers properties window:

I do have "Disable front panel jack detection" marked, so it shouldn't be trying to play the front speakers through the headphones jack. But I'm thinking that might be the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

A:4.1 audio only coming out of rear right speaker

Do you have the speakers configured in the Sound Panel/Playback? Click to highlight your speakers and then click the Configure button in the lower left of the panel.

In my setup, 4.1 is not an option, and may not be in yours so the 4.1 may never work completely right. 5.1 (or 7.1) is what is normally used, not the older 4.1 systems.

I use a 4.1 surround sound setup with onboard sound, and I can't seem to get sound from my rear speakers. I only get sound from the front. I didn't update any new sound drivers, and used the Microsoft and ATI ones.

When I do the sound test, it shows that the 4 speakers show some sound activity from the green status bar.

But no sound is coming from the rear speakers. I switched my speakers around to test if the speakers themselves are faulty (and they aren't). I went to the RealTek website and downloaded the latest driver. After installation it prompted me to restart. After restart, all my files in my desktop disappeared! My rear speakers are still not making any sounds after the new driver. I did a system restore to get my desktop files back.

I had nearly the exact same problem when I used Windows XP x86 (the difference being my desktop files weren't deleted when I installed the latest RealTek driver in Windows XP).

These speakers used to be connected to a Sound Blaster card from an old computer, and the surround sound worked on that.

Can anyone help me?

I'm having a rather annoying problem, i use this surround system: Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Speaker System (Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Speaker System)

And recently something has gone wrong, the front speakers have stopped playing and only my rear/centre and bass are working. my first conclusion would be they failed ofcourse, but there is still a humming sound coming from both of them + they stopped working at the exact same instant.

Realtec HD audio still recognises all 6 of my speakers, and if i do a soundcheck on my front speakers it plays sound , but the sound is played through my rear speakers and when i test my rear speakers the sound is also played through my rear speakers (only softer)

I didn't used to have this problem and i'm not aware of any changes i've made.

Thanks in advance,

edit: i have tried to plug them in and out. I've also checked the wiring, if i put the wires of a front speaker into a rear one the front speaker still refuses to work and the rear speaker works. so i doubt the problem lies there.

A:Front and rear speaker problems.

Have you checked for the windows automatic updates. Go into the settings for your speakers and try to reset them.

Have you tried this speaker system on a different computer?

Do all the speakers connect to the base system like The Creative systems.

The Humming sounds like feedback or electrical interference, have the speakers been moved or an ac source or cable added.

Ive just recently switched from vista64 to windows 7 64.

The only way round this to select the 7.1 option and disable the "side" speakers and hence I can use "rear". The sound from the "side" speakers then comes from the ones in the front in the testing.

Now the problem is that when I play games/movies in 5.1 it probably detects my system as a 7.1 and some sound will be missing.

So how can I use the 5.1 option and keep my surround speakers as "rear" and not "side".

Thanks in advance,

A:Realtek HD detecting rear speaker as side (5.1)

A true 5.1 speaker system consists of subwoofer, front right and left, and surround right and left (what you may be referring to as "side"). There are no "rear" speakers in a 5.1 system.

A 7.1 system adds rear right and left.

Your Realtek HD is configuring your 5.1 speaker system correctly.

See the Dolby Home Theater Speaker Guide for correct placement of your speakers.

Very faint but just loud enough to annoy! How can I be getting the radio sounds from the rear speakers but nothing else? I don't get any of the radio sounds from the front speakers. Is there some way I can test to see what's wrong? Is there some way to fix this? They were working fine up until a few weeks ago, then nothing. I've been trying to get them to work again but have had absolutely no luck at all.

I have a Dell Dimension 4700 with XP Service Pack 2 pentium 4

hello All, i've got problem in my Dell Vostro 320 AIO PC with windows 7 ultimate 32bit, internal mic and speaker has not working? but in device manager that device is ready! and Dell Vostro 320 have an internal speaker.

help me please

A:Speaker has not working in Dell Vostro 320

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally Sound. In the Sound Playback panel, make sure your speakers are set as the default playback device.

If that is OK, go to the Device Manager and RIGHT click to highlight the entry for the Sound device and then LEFT click "Uninstall" (DO NOT check the block to uninstall the drivers). Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect the sound and reinstall it. This fixes a lot of flakey problems.

Hi all. Long time..........

I just went behind my wife's back and bought a few upgrades for the computer.....Now I have to show their worth.....or else....lol

I bought a new hard disc. The WD caviar Black 1 TB
I bought a second (used GTX260) so I could finally visit SLI land....

And I bought a sound card. My first ever. I always have cheaped out in the past on sound....going with onboard sound...

So I bought a nice new Soundblaster X-FI Titanium.

I installed everything at once. Did a new install of windows and the day and a half of updating of the software.....Jeez that sucked.
I finally have everything working, except this rear speaker thing. Setting up the Mic was a bugger too, but I think I have that done.

Here is the issue. When I do a channel test, you can hear the test signal from all the channles fine, but when you get to the rear left, it comes out of the subwoofer, very faintly.
I have read tons of posts from angry folks who are having similar probs with this. Some say its the cables....(even though they worked fine on onboard sound) Some say I have to disable the onboard sound in the mixer....etc.

I have come here to see if any of you fine folks have a solution that works.....

Sorry for the long post......Thanks for taking the time.
Ps, I am running Vista service pack 2
speakers are the Z5500 using the 6 channel direct. (3 stereo jacks)
(I was thinking of going to toslink to see if that helps)

A:Solved: No sound from rear left speaker, X-fi Titanium.

Okay. First let me apologize to the 62 people who read my post. Sorry, I am an idiot.
I thought I had checked and rechecked everything before posting, but I missed a loose wire where my rear speaker wires connect to the wall plate where they go in wall up to the location on my back wall.....I reconnected the wire, and bam. It works great.
I was also able to figure out how to get my pc to output digital audio through the card to my z5500 speakers...
You have to start the Creative audio service. To get to it, I had to type something into the search bar just above the start button. Of course stupid me, I did not write down what it was....
But if you read this post, its a good place to look....if you are having probs with your digital output.

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.
Please help me out.

A:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted,... Read more

I finished a new build today:

ASUS Z170 Pro-Gaming Motherboard
i5 processor
etc. etc.

When I plug my logitech 5.1 Surround speakers into the rear line-out audio jack of the motherboard, it only produces sound in the left speaker (I am only using the front left/right speakers, not the full 5.1 surrount). However, when I plug the same speakers into the front headphone jack of my computer case, both speakers work!

I have tried multiple audio drivers from the ASUS product support website, still doesn't work. I have tried uninstalling all drivers, and allowing Windows 10 to automatically install the driver. This doesn't work either.

Any ideas?

I reeeeeally hope someone can sort me out on this one as I have tried everything and can't seem to get my sound card working again. Foolishly, I tried to update the drivers this morning and that went wrong so I've spent all day trying to reinstall and get my new 5.1 speakers working properly with my Audigy 2 (SB0240) soundcard. I've managed to get the creative audio consoles to work with my speaker system - diagnostic tests show that sound does come from all 6 speakers (albiet, the front left and right are A LOT quieter - which I suspect is being caused by the main problem) but only the front 2 channels (left and right) are shown to be working within windows' own sound and devices manager. i.e. it only shows volume controls for left and right speaker, even though under advanced, the speakers are set to 5.1 surround speakers.

Creative's audio console has got the tick on the box, "syncronise with windows control panel" however, it's clearly not doing. Creative works fine (although slightly quieter out of left and right channels) whereas windows believes there to be only 2 speakers attached, even though there are 5.1 plugged in and selected. What's going on?!

The only way to get sound out of all 6 is to use Creative's CMSS features, which upscales media to 5/6.1 from 2 channel audio, however, it was working fine this morning with CMSS switched off, so I think the problem (as per usual) lies with Windows Control Panel.

Hey guys, I'm having a really big problem with my newly bought speakers (Logitech G51).

To begin: I've been searching the web for about 5 hours now, and all results I get via google are already marked purple...

Important Specs:
Audio Driver:
Audio Codec: ALC888S
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit

Well, here's my problem:

I can't get a sound out of my rear/center speakers, as it is supposed to be! I can use that "matrix" function, delivered by the remote, but that's just stereo sounds out of all 5 speakers... not exactly what im looking for.

When opening up the Realtek HD Audio Manager (had 2.26 before, and now 2.39, no difference) I changed everything to 5.1 speaker, but the rear speakers are grayed out. When I'm clicking on the button corresponding to each speaker, to test them, I'm only getting a sound out of the fron L/R speaker, and none other are working (when disabling side speakers, im getting sound out of the rear AND front)

I've already read about that possible solution with the registry entries, but that didn't help either, no sound.

Here are some screenshots of current configurations:

When trying to reassign the speakers, I only get the possibility to do that with the green port, and the 3 options are seen below:

I already tried to plug in every port, whereever I can put it, notebook sided, and sub sided... It just doesn't seem to work.

To summarize: When clicking in that window to test these boxes, I can only get a sound out o... Read more

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x32, Realtek HD Audio and now just connected my old (2003) DELL Altec Lansing ADA995 System. It has a subwofer, 2 Frontspeakers, 1 Center Speaker and 2 Rear Speakers, however I get NO Sound in these 2 Rear Speakers, can Somebody please help?

A:No Sound in 2 Rear speakers

This is the Dell users/setup manual for the speakers. Documentation

There has been a change in color coding for 5.1 speakers, compare what Dell shows to what you have on your new PC.

Also, check the Speaker Configuration in the Sound Panel, in the Control Panel, and verify you have 5.1 speakers selected.

I have a 4-5 year old Evesham (UK) AMD 2000+ PC with a Creative Audigy sound card (5.1 system). The two rear speakers have recently ceased to operate, whilst the two front and the centre are fine. Plugs are OK and seated properly (tried many times!) - speakers OK (have swopped them around) - have reinstalled software several times - have swopped sound card into different PCI slots - I'm stuck!
Since this problem started, I've reformatted my C: drive and completely reinstall all software - including, of course, WinXP Home and the Creative software - prob still there.
I can only suppose that the card has a problem or there's a snag in the bass speaker which has terminals taking the input from the sound card and delivering the output to the 5 small speakers. But I don't want to spend 50 on a new card only to find that there's no change.
Anyone got any ideas?
Regards - Roger
