Audigy Card produces buzzing in response to system activity / video

Q: Audigy Card produces buzzing in response to system activity / video

My Audigy sound card has been producing some very peculiar background noise lately.
-When the system is idle, there is only a very faint but constant buzzing noise. This is louder and of different frequencies depending upon the colors being displayed on screen. Any change that occurs in the video (i.e. moving my mouse around or resizing windows) makes a faint zipping sound. This all occurs whether the monitor is plugged in/turned on or not.
-Aside from the video, I can hear just about every other process that happens inside my computer through the attached speakers/headphones (it does not matter what type of listening device I connect, the sound comes out of all 5 channels of the card itself). These processes include hearing my hard drive accessing data, such that I can tell if the read/write head is searching or reading. When reading, I can hear the data streaming through the cables. Therefore, I have constant background noise while watching a DVD/HDD video file. The noise is about a fifth as loud as the soundtrack, so I can still watch a movie and be only moderately annoyed.

This happened as much with my past Power supply as with my current, high quality one so it's not a question of that. All software settings for the card also seem to be ok.

The symptoms are consistent with hearing electrical radiation interference from all the electrons/Rf resonance that's zipping around inside my computer, the question is: why does my sound card seem to pick up on every last bit of electrical activity that occurs within my computer while nobody else's does? Anyone have a fix for this? I feel like I've tried everything!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Over the last several months, I've been experiencing my PC hard locking and producing a buzzing sound through my headphones. The only 'solution' at the moment is to manually reset my tower to get back to the desktop. It's been very difficult to isolate how this begins; I've had this occur when I have 1-2 monitors, whilst doing work/PC on idle, watching a video on youtube/streaming, etc.

I took the advice in a previous thread (Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD) by going through msconfig and doing a clean start-up on Windows but I still experience the lock-ups. However, the only program I did not disable upon start-up was my anti-virus program (Avira Internet Security) and the problem reared its head last night. I've never had a problem with this on my previous machine so I doubt that this program would be a problem..?

My system specs are as follows:

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel i5 3750K
ASUS Z778LK-V mobo
1 TB WD Caviar Black
8 GB Ram (I believe this is Corsair Hyper X, is there anyway I can check this without pulling out the sticks?)
ASUS GTX660 2GB (331.65 older drivers, was experiencing intermittent black outs on my screen)
Corsair HX650W PSU

I was wondering if there if anyone had any suggestions on whether this could be software vs. hardware based, since I haven't really changed the programs I've used since the same majority of programs with my previous rig. Would there be any benchmarks that could be recommended to test my comput... Read more

The stress test would probably be a good way to test the cpu. I would give that a shot. Also; since you said you have lock ups; I would test the ram using Memtest86+ using the following link to see if there is any issues with your ram possibly:

I recently purchased a GTX 580 and after installing it and rebooting my computer, once windows fired up I noticed my speakers were making a high pitched noise, along with fluctuating static. Upon further investigation I realized my audio was also not working. Here are some things I have tried to remedy the situation:

- Checked the speakers: They work perfectly on another computer, likewise I still get the noise when I tried a different set of speakers and a set of earbuds in the problem computer

- Tried changing the video card out with the old GTX 460, didn't work

- I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling both audio and video drivers using these instructions (http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=586183&mpage=1) with drive sweeper, again to no success

- I have swapped out PSU's and still get the problem

- I have tried doing a fresh windows install with a spare HDD and I still get the noise as soon as windows boots

I have figured out that if I go in to Device Manager, under System Devices and disable one of the 'High Definition Audio Controller' (there are two, but the other is associated with my video card) then the noise will stop.

At this point I am pretty perplexed as to what is causing this. Could something on my board have been zapped? I'm out of ideas for a fix, any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

My daughter has a Dell 4600 desktop running Windows XP and the hard drive crashed. I purchase a new Seagate 160 GB SATA hard drive to replace the bad one. After putting in the new hard drive, I used the Dell Reinstallation CD to install Windows XP Home Edition.

When I try to install the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 drivers and application software I get a message that says "Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster Audigy 2 on your system."

I have removed and reinstalled the sound card which did not help.

Device Manager shows the following:

Sound, video & game controller:

Legacy audio drivers
Legacy video capture devices
Media contrl devices
Video codecs

?Other Devices
?ethernet controller

I bought a Latitude 13 7350 off the Outlet (8GB ram, 256GB SSD, LTE card) just over ten days ago putting me near the end of the 14 day UK return window and annoyingly it's developed an intermittent fault where it makes a noticeable buzzing sound from the keyboard/base section.  It sounds similar to a hard drive noise but louder and obviously not a hard drive since there isn't one in the machine.  It seems to be getting more constant and related to CPU activity, it's loud when loading a webpage then goes quiet until I scroll the webpage.
Disabling the backlighting and taking it on/off charge doesn't seem to make any difference so I'm not sure what could be causing it, my concern is niggly little problems like this can be a pain to sort in which case I may be better sending this one back and trying to get another.  I realise this seems to be a rare machine but thought it worth checking first to see if anyone was aware of this issue, certainly none of the reviews mentioned it.

I'm in need of the installation CD from the Audigy LS. Creative doesn't offer the applications in their download section for this card (EAX Console, Surround Mixer, Speaker Settings, etc), only the drivers, and the Audigy 2 series of cards, which they do offer those programs for download, uses a different chip then the Audigy LS and therefore will not function with my card.

I recently formatted and lost the CD, so if anyone would be willing to zip up the installation CD to send to me I would be very grateful. Just reply, email @ [email protected] or AIM: GrdLock31337

I emailed Creative and they did offer to let me purchase a new installation CD from them but I find that ridiculous that they're too lazy to put the files up on their website, considering they have them up for all their other cards.

A:Anyone have a Creative Audigy LS (not Audigy 2) card???

Have you tried using the normal Audigy software? I thought the LS was the same as the OEM card which I have, and I always used the gamer software.

Iv'e had a set of good quality speakers for some years now. Just in the last week iv'e noticed they are buzzing but not loudly. I sounds much like a dial up tone (intermittent or continuous) and seem to only be active when something is buffering or downloading, any internet connectivity etc. The volume of the 'buzzing' isn't affected by increasing the volume and there has been no new wireless devices added to the house in that time.

Anyone have any idea what is causing this bizarre noise? Thank you

I have followed thoroughly various tutorials for setting up OBS for streaming. Initially I had set it up for Youtube, then switched to Twitch. This works fine. I have absolutely no complaint with that. Streaming out to these platforms is working as I would like.
This issue I'm experiencing is what I can best describe as a pulsing or jumping, about once per second when I play a file back that I have recorded (not streamed) with OBS.

The audio is flawless, no stuttering, nothing like that. Audio BR is at 160...

As I watch the status information in OBS as I am recording, I see no warning about overloaded encoder, the frame rates are where they are supposed to be, no dropped frames. everything should appear to be good. CPU load is unremarkable, again plenty of headroom. It doesn't seem to matter if I increase bit rate, decrease bit rate, CBR, VBR, increase or decrease framerate, or which software i use to view the output fine: VLC, WMP, whatever, there is this pulsing. Its just enough to be annoying. Its subtle, but it's there. And it doesn't matter which PC I play the file on ( I have a few I can test it with)

The computer running OBS is more than adequate for the task.

I have - in an effort to improve things - changed recording format, changed encoder, even the location to which I was saving it ( initially that was a network drive, but I change to an internal SSD for test purposes) I can not get rid of this.

This is just for a little pet project, I ... Read more

Good evening. When you ran DDS it should have created a second log, Attach.txt, which i'd like to see the contents of. If you didn't save a copy you'll need to run DDS again. Also, when you ran TDSSKiller it should have created a log, which i'd also like to see. It will be located at the root of you hard drive as C:\TDSSKiller.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.. Please check that you get the one with the right date and time as I want to see what, if anything, the tool actually detected and removed.

I have a motherboard with the video adapter onboard. Problem is I don't have any drivers for the motherboard or its video. So my resolution is stuck at 16 color.

If I put a PCI Video adapter in the computer, do I need to change anything on the motherboard. I would thinking to just buy a cheap video card with drivers and install.

Now I remember seeing a bunch of jumpers and I hope you will not tell me that I may need to change a jumper because the jumpers are beyond me. I have no documentation for that motherboard.

I hope I can just Plug n Play. What do you guys think???

A:Adding a video card to a video on motherboard system???

i would first check the BIOS menu of your motherboard to see if the onboard video can be turned off there. If so, then you're all set.

If not, then post the exact manufacturer of your motherboard and the model and someone here can probably find info on it for you...

In fact, someone might even be able to get drivers for your onboard video!!

A while back,I posted a thread asking if a sound card would be an improvement over on board audio. Thank you again for your kind responses.

I ordered a Creative Soundblaster "Audigy" sound card, gave it to someone for Christmas, and installed it her computer. It replaced the on board Realtec '97. The Audigy is Creative's entry level card. She had and still has Logitec's plain vanilla 2.1 speakers.

The difference is not night and day,but there is an improvement.

--Timbre. The overtone series are better so the instruments sound more realistic. I suspect that's because of the digital to audio converter chip on the Audigy card.

--Imaging. MUCH better, because the channel separation is better.

--Frequency extremes. The soprano seems cleaner, more accurate.

--Dynamic Range. This is the most significant change. The distances between very loud, loud, medium loud, medium soft, soft, and very soft are closer to real performance thatn was the previous board.

**Yes,it's well worth the money. But now, she'll want better speakers.:-)

Happy New Year.

Last night the power went out while my computer was on-- and it fried my sound card. So I went to the store and got a new one (Creative SB Audigy 4)-- I have a plug and play computer and I'm pretty sure I plugged the new card in correctly as it was detected when I restarted my computer. However, when I tried installing the official software and additional drivers, both gave me the error message "Unable to detect supported product. Please make sure the product is installed properly and try again."

What can be done about this? I uninstalled my SB Live drivers before installing this one. I've gone through my device manager and Audigy isn't even listed as an option-- there is no sound on my computer whatsoever and the little volume control has disappeared from my task bar entirely.

Any help is muchly appreciated!

I just thought of something. If an integrated video card uses system ram, then can't I make it so that my video card uses system ram? That way my video card would have more memory.

Reason being for this idea is that I was thinking of buying Gta IV for computer when it comes out, but my video card only has 128mb of memory and I don't think that would be enough for Gta IV, and since my computer only has PCI slots there aren't really any better video cards out there. My video card is a Evga GeForce Fx 5500 128mb fyi.

So would it be possible to use some of my ram (system memory) for my video card? Since I have 1.5gb of ram in my computer I'm sure I could spare some. So basically I just want to know if there is something I can do for the computer to use some ram for my video card but only for when I want, so when I'm done playing the game I can switch all my ram back to system memory.

A:Using System RAM for Video Card

Not unless it is built into the BIOS and board. It would be far slower, anyway.

You can use system RAM for texture storage. That is the "Aperture" setting in BIOS.

Hey all,

I've got my hands on a basic system from work for practically nothing (incorrect build, boss gave me a big discount) which I would like to put a decent video card into it. I am going to give it to my 16 old cousin for his birthday.

The system is as follows (sorry I don't have the finer details on spec):

- MSI mATX 1333 mhz socket 775
- Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.6ghz
- 1gig RAM
- CoolerMaster Extreme 550W PSU
- Windows XP Home

It's a pretty basic system, but I thought I could get it reasonably game worthy.

I was thinking about putting in an EVGA 8800GTS 320MB.

What do you reckon? Any other suggestions would be most appreciated.

My computer is an emachines W3653 just over 1 yo. I am running XP but will be on Vista in a few days. My computer has 2 PCI and 1 PCI-e slot. I only have 1GB of RAM but I am looking to move up to my systems maximum of 2GB soon. My motherboards is a ECS 945G-M3.

I found a card that is a descent value. Will this card work on my PC?
I don't have 5 post so I cant post links... add the www to the beginning.

A:The right video card for my system?

When I look up your PC on emachine's site it shows a dual core Celeron CPU running at 1.6Ghz. Is that the processor you have?

Can you find out the specs of the power supply?

The video card you linked will physically fit in the motherboard but requires at least a 400W PSU and may be more powerful than you need depending on what CPU you have.

As you can see below, in my sig, I got now a 16mb NVIDIA TNT. I want to boost my video card to a 64 mb or 128 mb speed. I shopped around for the best price, but the only place that I can find a good price (bid) is at Ebay.

The two cards that I have my eyes on are:

128MB AGP Pny Verto geforce 4 Ti 4400

GAINWARD GeForce 3 Ti200/Ti450 64MB DDR AGP

Here are my questions:

When I look at the systems requirements for these cards, it says AGP 2x/4x. Can that support my 2x AGP or that just means that it just only supports 2x/4x ones? (I'm kinda confuse on that)

Do you think one or both of they are just right for my system?

A:The right video card for my system?

Considering your PC I'd probably put this one in it for $62.50

But your PC should be able to use any card saying 2X APG in the description.

Everything was fine until I performed an automatic update of my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 drivers. Everything seemed quite normal until I opened a couple games. Here are some screenshots of what happened to the pixelation of my video.

Heres the exact order of how this happened.

1) I used the auto update available @ http://us.creative.com/support/down.../&hdAllProduct=1&LangID=1033&hdDspLangID=1033

2) The auto update finished. I selected it to install all the latest updates found.

3) After restart, things were normal until opening OpenGL games like Counter-Strike and Diablo II. I immediately was puzzled. Nothing seemed wrong in the AUDIGY driver's settings or my graphics card. I have Plantronic DSP-500's, a headset that comes with a soundcard built in.

4) Not minding the fact that I dont need audigy drivers, I uninstalled the drivers using the full clean uninstall process found @ creative's website.

A:Creative SB Audigy 2 related Video problem. HELP

Have you looked into possible overheating? Open up your case, and stick some points at it, and see if it helps.

This definitely looks like a hardware issue, it's not the monitor since the screenshots are showing up messed up, it seems like something is going on with the video card. I don't know how the sound drivers could affect it, I have a feeling that was just a coincidence....

A:buzzing sound and a little video drag

This is a common problem, and you have 2 issues.

1 A buzzing sound.
2 Video lag.

You could look at your codecs.
Have you got any power cables crossing and speaker cables.
Does this happen when you are using earphones(Try using earphones, if you have no buzzing this will answer alot of questions)

I have an HP Pavilion a750e with Windows XP. Device manager says "Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)". Computer has three jacks in the front: headphones, line-in, mic.

My line-in and mic jacks (front and back) stopped working recently. Today the headphone jack on the soundcard stopped working. The headphone jack in the front still works, but this seems to be the only thing that works.

I tried updating the driver for the heck of it, but the installer said "Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster Audigy 2 on your system."

Does anyone know what is wrong? Thanks for reading.

Check wether something is muted.

Otherwise, the plugs might be dirty.

I purchased this card secondhand so I have no Warranty ......... The card functioned perfectly when first installed and was a distinct improvement to my Onboard system RealTek AC97. Recently I found I was having to adjust volume on the Speakers to compensate for low volume until finally there is nothing at all.

I have reinstalled the card in alternate PCI slot and made sure I have the latest Audigy drivers from the Creative Site ........ wiring and linkups are correct and Windows config is fully correct to enable sound. There is no visible sign of damage or component failure on the card. Windows recognizes the card in Device Manager and all Properties Check indicate that the card is functioning correctly with no Conflicts.

Is their anyone out there who has had experience with this unit of a similar nature and is there anything I might be missing ....... or am I wasting my time and should consign this card to garbage. Any advise or suggestion would be welcome.

A:Problem With Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card

I assume you've tried another set of speakers or headphones?

The decrease in volume suggests that the card has experienced an internal failure.

I have a audigy 2 zs platinum sound card in my system. I read that this sound card is quite good with the quality that it produces. However, when I plug in my $100 microphone to the sound card and start recording my voice, it wasn't what I expected. The sound wasn't clear, sharp, and quality was much less than what a cheap sound studio can produce. Obviously something must be missing I'm sure, but I don't know what. Here are a few problems. I have to turn the volume knob really high to even get some decent sound into Adobe Audition program. Now when I turned the volum really high this also increases the noise level. In addition, it sounds terribly bad on the head phone live. Once it's recorded, the sound was decent, there are some noise to it as well, compare to when it's live. Now, here's what I want. I want to have a clear and sharp sound just like when you hear a comercial on an FM radio. Any suggestion on how to fix it or what I am missing and/or need is much appreciated.

A:Audigy 2 zs platinum sound card

Perhaps you have your microphone connected in the wrong jack, or it isn't plugged in all the way. This can cause crappy sound and low volume.

You might also want to check your Windows volume settings, and make sure your Microphone levels aren't muted or turned down.

Something is definitely amiss here, the voice playback is crystal clear with a Soundblaster Live! and the cheap microphone that came with some of the various bundles...Your card should be doing some serious sound... crystal...izing?

Theres nothing like making up your own term.

Hi Folks

I'm having a problem with an Audigy 2 PCI card I installed on a neighbors system. I'm running Windows 2000 and the problem I'm seeing is that when playing sounds (like in Half-Life) the sound will lock up and keep playing a continuous tone and when this happens the entire O/S will lock up as well requiring a reset.

The problem manifests itself in one other way and that's during O/S startup. When you get to the Windows 2000 screen (where it looks for new/changed hardware) the system will also lock up, although this is intermittant.

I thought it was the drivers causing a hardware conflict so I installed everything from the original CD to different versions from Creative including Beta drivers - same problem.

It seems to me there's a hardware conflict occurring somewhere. To that end I tried to set the configuration for the IRQ etc in Device Manager but the option to do so is greyed out (can't be changed). I then tried the BIOS in the system and while it does have a lot of different options on a per slot basis - changing them seems to make no difference as the O/S keeps the card on the same IRQ.

I then tried a few different slots and the IRQ does change but the problem still occurs. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? It used to be that buying a Creative Labs card meant borad compatability and a plug n/ play install but it seems something has changed over the years since I bought the last one

I have an Audigy 2 Sound card and a Klipsch 5.1 spearker system. I can't get surround sound. All I get is stereo. The speakers system has digital, stereo and coax input. The digital input is standard (square). But the sound card's digital out is a mini-jack.

I bought a mini-jack to digital conveter from Radio Shack and still can't get any sound from the digital input on the speakers.

I have tried calling Audigy (Creative Labs), Klipsch and ABS Computers (where I bought my system from). All are useless. Each tells me to call the other company.

ABS Computer's support is the worst I've seen.

Anyone out there got the same setup? What do I need to buy to hook this system up?

A:Audigy 2 Card and Klipsch Spkrs

Should work, you need to run the left, right, and center speaker outputs to the subwoofer, then make sure you have analog selected in your sound card settings

This from the manufacturer of the speakers about digital

The ProMedia v2-400, 2.1, 4.1 and 5.1s have analog connections. Since the Klipsch engineering team focused purely upon audio performance to hit reasonable price targets, features and built-in digital decoding were not priorities. It is important to realize that all speaker systems are analog devices--"digital" speakers simply have a decoder built in. Most newer soundcards and DVD software programs have digital decoding capabilities built in, thus negating the need for an external decoder. However, the quality range is extreme, and our design group believes separate components always serve to deliver superior audio performance. For this reason, we have made the DD 5.1 digital decoder available as an optional add-on device for ”digital-quiet“ circuitry with an ultra-quiet noise floor and exceptionally low distortion. and final questiom, is that video card a good video card?

I also want an ati card since that way it can use my current ati radeon express intergrated and have dual monitors, which would be awesome, lol, specially for games

A:can my system ahdnle this video card?

yes that card will def run in ur system and yes should be a good card.

You should also consider the PCI-Express versions of the GeForce 6600GT, 6800, 6800GT and Ultra.

I am not vastly clued up on the ATI cards but these nVidia cards should compare very well (maybe even better) both performance wise and cost wise. Your best bet would be to decide on 2 cards and post a new thread asking for opinions on which would be best?

PS: You can run dual monitors from one graphics card, GeForce cards come with nView which is dual monitor setup software. I believe ATI's come with similar software.

After reading thread after thread about the ongoing debate over which graphics card is #1,it seems to me that when it comes time to purchase a card it all boils down to what YOUR current system consists of.If you dont plan on changing your systems OS or upgrading the mobo or any other components, then getting the most powerful card known to man may be a huge waste of money. For example cramming a GeForce 4 TI4600 card into an old and slow puter will not allow that card to even come close to its potential because of the bottleneck between the CPU and GPU.You're much better off looking at what your computer consists of first of all, and then match it up with a card that can perform at 100% while operating with your computers components that it will then be dependent on.Why buy anything more demanding on your system than what it can handle. So,assuming I'm not too far off base,I would really appreciate this forums opinion on what you think the most up to date graphics card I should purchase for my computer.I play mainly Medal of Honor and flight sims.I was leaning toward an ATI 8500 or GeForce 4 TI4200 but it might be overkill, maybe a GeForce 3 TI500 would be able to operate at 100% with what little my computer has to offer.Thanx in advance for your time and opinions.

A:Best Video Card for your current system

You purdy well nutshelled some big threads into your post & I think ya got it right. :grinthumb

I got a 'thing' for the P3 933. I think it is a fine CPU with plenty of potential for excellent results w/compatible hardware & good software 'enhancements'.

Depending on your motherboard, you may be able get more out of what you presently have than you may think. Rick makes some valid points on having a card that is a little above system 'specs': but the price is right, too. Quality over speed.

Since you are wanting to match your system potential, I'd like some mobo info 1st. Do you know the mfg & the model#? Handy utility for that info: www.freshdevices.com "Fresh Diagnose".

I will venture that the Ti 4200 or the 8500 are both excellent choices, IMO. The drop in 8500 prices makes them very desirable, but there is the driver issues. The 'new' cards use different drivers & support for 8500's ...

Recently I solicited advice from TSG forums on a budget PC - very pleased with the guidance I received - and in the ensuing discussion, the issue of power hungry video cards was raised.
The new computer was to allow two of us to play World of Warcraft together, and I am now interested in upgrading our older PC. RAM is easy - I took the brand name recommendations from the thread linked above and plugged in our older computer's specs on Newegg. But I'd like to upgrade our video card as well, and I'm concerned about buying something that will be too "power hungry" for an old Dell dinosaur.

It's a Dell Dimension 4550, with an Intel Pentium 4 cpu 2.53ghz, and Nvidia Geforce mx 420 64 MB. It's still got its original half gig of ram, which I will be updating to the max for this system (still only one gig, but it'll be running XP, not Vista) asap. Needless to say, it's pretty laggy in some spots and I'm concerned about it getting worse in the upcoming expansion.

I'm guessing that this Nvidia is optimal for Pong and Minesweeper: can you recommend a safe upgrade for this system?

Thanks, as always, for any advice.

Okay, I'm not really experienced in the whole graphics card field (or anything anymore I suppose), but I do know something is not right. It's probably someting painfully obvious to everyone but me. :/

I just bought an ATI Radeon 9200 AGP 8x/4x 128 MB DDR (I know, I know budget card ) and I installed it the other night. This was replacing my old peice o'crap Nvidia TMNT or whatever card it came with. I made sure to put in the DirectX 9.0 but I wasn't really sure what drivers to download to go with it because the list seemed endless and confusing to me. Once I had all the hardware installed that I could, I went to change the screen resolution from 1024by768 to 1280by960 and my computer freaked and rebooted on it's own, but never changed resolutions. Everytime I try to change the resolution either way, it reboots and never changes. Usually one I come back from a spontaneous reboot, a Microsoft error prompt will come up that asks if you want to send a report because the computer just recovered from a fatal error.

Aside from that, the other night my friend brought over Sims 2 to check out and I installed it smoothly, but when it prompted to start the game, I clicked yes and it froze. I restarted and tried just putting in the disc for the automatic prompt to play and once the game's title screen came up, it rebooted. I tried again by selecting it from the programs file and it rebooted again, again with the "Send Error Report" prompt.
