I have an aging but nevertheless still potent Dell desktop. It came with ME, but spent most of it's life running 2KPro. But I wanted XP, and I wanted SP2 (you know, all the good stuff). But I didn't wanna pay a lot of money for it. I once paid $184.00 for an XP disc at Costco. And M$ talks about piracy! This time, I Googled until I was satisfied that I had found the cheapest price. $43.88. I knew that I was taking a chance, and might get scammed......but I went ahead with it anyway. It came from DirectDepot2U via UPS yesterday. When I opened the package, there were 2 discs, and a rather brief instruction sheet: "Dear Customer: Please install windows with Back Up CD for all computers. The original CD (Dell, HP, Compaq or Gateway..) is your license CD and for all special drivers. Thanks. Customer Service" No COA, or any ot that fancy stuff. I was on my own. One CD was a genuine Dell XP home reinstallation CD......but I wasn't supposed to use that. The other CD (XP pro, as I would discover) was colored solid fire-engine red, with a crude inkstamp that read "Back Up CD" (without the quotes). There was a little sheet with the product key. It could have made the grade for Army surplus. I popped it into the tray, and off I went. It started nicely, and after everything was installed, prompted me for the product key. From there it seemed to take over with a mind of it's own. All I had to do was sit back and enjoy the show, occasionally checking for a choice. At one point, it asked if I was directly connected to a modem, or to a router. I clicked router. The next thing I knew, a Microsoft update was being installed. I was on the Internet! I know, I know, only have mouse, keyboard & monitor connected. But you see, I was riding a horse without a saddle.....having a good time. I hadn't disconnected anything. I clicked on the IE button. Boom, there was MSN! I went to MS updates, as I wanted to install SP2. It said no updates were available. Curious, I opened "system". SP2 was already in there! I opened Device Manager. I wondered where all the yellow went. (I was prepared to deal with drivers, as I had previously gone on the Dell website, downloaded all my XP updated drivers, unzipped, and burned them to a CD. I just now threw that CD into the wastebasket.) To sum up, I've never had an installation go so smoothly. Now, maybe I'm heading for a fall. Maybe this disc is illegitimate. But hey, what have I got to lose? $43.88 (plus shipping).

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

Dear forum members, I've recently bought a new SANDISK Ultra II 240GB Sata 6gb disc, but after I ran a hardware info utility, it says that is connected only to 3gb (SATA II) mode. Is my Thinkcentre m71e equipped with SATA III or not?

Download the Hardware Maintenance manual for your specific model and model number.   Look for the system board connector page to answer your question about the SATA ports. 
 
Update:   I looked up the specs for your system.   It uses the Intel H61 chipset, which has 4 Sata II ports.  Sorry.

 A low-profile PCIe x1, 2 port Sata III card may work, but there are many caveats, the biggest being whether it will be recognized by the BIOS, especially for the Boot disk.

Please excuse me if there is any bad language in this post. I'm pretty sure that I removed it all. But I might have missed some.

Today, I bought an LG Blue-ray Disc Player model BP340 (at Wallmart). I bought the best model I could find because I wanted a good reliable product. Mostly what I wanted was a good User Interface. I wanted a large number of variable speeds to view my videos - both fast forward and slow motion forward - both forward and reverse.

But I am now very unhappy. It's probably my own stupid fault. Probably my lack of understanding.

I have bought several other DVD players in the past and found all of them to be lacking in one way or another - in regards to their user interface. I wanted the best user interface available and I was willing to pay as much as necessary to get it.

My main problem with this player is that I want to have a permanent display on the screen that shows how much of a program I have played so far and/or how much of a program is yet to be played. This is something that most all other players always do easily and I'm guessing this one will also do it. I just can't figure out how.

The first problem I encountered with this player was trying to understand the User Manual. That was because there was no user manual. There is a piece of paper that comes in the box and it says, "To view the instructions of advanced features visit http://www.lg.com and then download Owner's Manual."

Instead of sending the activation code to my sign-in email, it was sent to my reserve email, which no longer exists on the system, I sent the new telephone number, this has been changed, but I am still not able to open any of my Office applications. Yet
I will be charged the renewal from the date I put in the product key. When one has a product key and then signs in to Live, why does this then not activate? Why when you have changed to my new telephone number, have you not sent me an activation code? With

My last ThinkPad was two decades ago and it last me years. Eventually, software progression outpaced it while hardware still going strong.  Not sure if the quality of ThinkPad dropped or what. But my x1c6 HDR screen turned pink (see photo) twice within just a week of ownership. I have to close and reopen the lid for it to go away. Bad connection between the LCD and MB? In addition, I also heard a few stories which mysterious cracks developed on the lid after a few months of usage.  I don't want to bother with warranty claim since it is within the 30 days return period. If I do decide to x1c6 another chance, should I get extended accidental warranty just to safe? How often does x1 develop issues down the road?

Working on a spiffy e-machine with Windows Vista Home Basic that runs pretty well.

After reading multiple posts where the advice usually begins with suggesting a 'boot disc' or a 'recovery disc', I guess what I'm looking to find out is:
1) what is the difference between a boot disc and a recovery disc?
2) How do I go about making one on this machine (or if I even can)? << I did read through Grinler's tutorials regarding System Restore points and all that seems to in good order. But I guess I'm not sure on the relationship between that and my post (or if there even is one).
3) a best practice regarding these type of discs
I don't have any pressing issues at this time, but I also don't want to wait until I do.

Everything I've learned here at BC has been so great & helpful, I would like to stay on that path, so any links/apps/ideas/suggestions and/or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Let me see if I can phrase that in a way that makes some sense.A recovery disc is a generic term for the disk or media containing a backup of the original factory condition or a specified condition of a computer as configured by the original equipment manufacturer or an end-user. OEM supplied recovery media is sometimes shipped with some computers to allow the user to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and pre-loaded software as it was when it was shipped. This is not as common a practice today as it was in the past. I won't confuse the issue, but google recovery partition for more information.A boot disk is a removable data storage medium, i.e. DVD or flash drive from which a computer can load and run 'boot' an operating system or utility program. The computer must have an installed program or application which will load and execute a program or application from the boot disk. This will enable you to boot an otherwise unusable machine to be able to troubleshoot the OS or non-working application as necessary.Hope that gives you a better idea of the difference.As to how to create a boot disk? I will let more knowledgeable staff or members assist you.

I am building a new Haswell PC here on the right coast of the US, and need to ship it to the owner on the left coast - built, tested, and loaded.

Has anyone done this and have any tips to try and get it to it's destination in working condition?

The owner is fairly mechanically inclined, but has never worked inside a PC before, so I am wary of what I can ask her to do.
My main concern is we are considering a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO, and I am concerned about the height of this thing creating enough leverage to tear the socket out if there was a jolt. I've considered removing it and then trying to walk her through installing it at her end but I'm not sure this is the best plan.
Or we could just stick with the stock heatsink and fan and not deal with the EVO.

Any experiences and tips would be appreciated!

Well if it was me I would get bunch of static free bubble wrap and stuff the inside of case so things don't move then wrap outside of case put in box then get bigger box and put more wrap between the two boxes. That should protect everything then make sure you put insurance on it for a value twice the amount of the package. Forgot to say to mark the box this side up so motherboard is on bottom of box.

I've had good luck with HP computers, and recently ordered a new EliteDesk. The problem is, I paid a premium for next-day delivery. The unit was shipped from Texas (to Northern California) on May 25th. It is now May 31st, and I don't have it yet. FedEx dropped the ball and failed to deliver it today, and they say I'll have it tomorrow -- but in the course of my discussion with them, they said it was shipped GROUND. Because it was shipped ground, I am certainly entitled to a refund on the premium shipping charge that was billed to my credit card. But here's the real problem: As far as I can tell, there is NO page on the HP website that provides a phone number I can use to call and complain about this. I have looked and looked and looked. I would love it if some kind person would provide a customer support phone number so I can call and explain the problem to them. Or even a URL of the web page that has a phone number. I do quite understand that large corporations don't want to hear from customers after they have made a sale ... but in this case, if I don't get a commitment from HP to rescind the charge for next-day shipping, I'll have to have my Visa cancel the entire payment for the computer, and then where will we be? It will be a headache for everybody. So how about a phone number, eh?

Just sent my daughter-in-law a Gateway2000 via UPS from Michigan to Texas. It was running perfect when it left me. She just called and said that it would not turn on...nothing....nada.
She has changed power cords and has plugged it into the wall and to no avail.

During the move the power connector could have come loose from the motherboard. Check all the power connections to see that they are snug!!
Make sure the connection to the power switch is snug also.

I will just followup here: I order on April 6th with 64GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 1080 screen with Muti-touch and Pen Pro, i7-6700HQ CPU and M1000M GPU, along with a Storage Kit for the HDD cables. No RAID and other special configurations. It didn't allow me to pay in two credit cards by the system, a CSR was helping me on putting the order and he had restarted his program to complete my order by some reason at that time. Model: P50 20ENCTO1WWOriginal shipping date: April 7th, 2016.Original delivery date: April 14th, 2016.Shipping date Delayed to (on April 7th): April 15th, 2016.Delivery date Delayed to: April 23rd.Booking place: US. On April 9th, the Storage Kit was shown as "Cancelled" on the order status page and a couple of cancellation notification emails came before it for the system cancellation as well. Chatted with a CSR, there seemed to be an error on the order status page, and the order should be shipped. Waiting for more updates now.

I need to get a shipping address to send in my laptop. 4  weeks ago I contacted HP about my laptop needing repairs.  After running through several troubleshooting steps, the tech said I would need to send the unit in.  I received the shipping box to return it, filled in the problem form and packaged it back up to send.  I did not receive a shipping label and so I just tried to send it to the address that was on the label of the box.  1621 Heil Quaker BLVD, Lavergne, Tn 37092.  The post office tried to pull up this address, but says that it is not a valid address.  I have tried  for the past two weeks to get someone on the phone that can help me with this.  I keep getting put through to different numbers, getting cut off, or having to wait on hold forever, and I still do not have an address.  Can someone please help me with the matter ASAP.  I am a cancer patient and have been dealing with chemo, radiation, and surgery I really need to get my daughters laptop taken care of for her.

Hello everyone. I have searched far and wide on the internet for a solution to this problem, but have yet to find anything. I know about the problems at Digital River with the downloadable student editions. I am more concerned with the Discs I paid $13 extra to have shipped to me.

I was supposed to receive a confirmation e-mail when they shipped. That was exactly two weeks ago, which to me means they still have not shipped. I have tried contacting Digital River (twice) by their customer support form, but have not had any luck with that.

I'm frustrated beyond belief and have no idea what to do. I guess I could just download the .ISO, but the problem with that is then I still lose $13.

Does anyone have any idea what I should do, other than wait some more and eventually give up?

When you ordered the DVD, you should have received a receipt, and hopefully on that receipt there was a contact email and/or phone number. Anything on your receipt?

I bought an Xbox on Ebay and the shipping wasnt listed but instead it had the Ebay calculate shipping for the product. The Calculated shipping was only 30$ but the seller sent me an inovice with 68$ for shipping. Can the seller charge such a price on shipping when the calculated price was so much lower? Im just wondering before I pay for the item.

But Ebay say "Shipping services and rates available for shipping to United States.
All prices include any packaging and handling fees charged by the seller.", so if you selected correctly, the answer is no, ask for an explanation.

I'm preparing for setting up SQL Server 2K log shipping across a firewall. I wonder if it will be enough to open port 445 on the firewall (for SMB traffic, NETBIOS transport is disabled), or port 1433 will also need to be left open.

Has anyone received a shipping confirmation on this new machine and if so will you please share order date, ship date, model. I ordered the stock-built computer with FHD display and 16 GB memory on the day of release, June 19, and now my estimated delivery is one month from June 19 despite that they are offering 'same day shipping' for new orders and have been for a few days.  The original estimated ship time was 5-7 days.  Call the sales number and they will sell you that computer today for 'same day shipping' but when I asked the rep to double-check she said oh, no, sorry, there are no computers in stock, that they were probably 'oversold' or 'waiting for parts'. Thank you kindly for helping bring some clarity to this situation.

Hi,   I am not sure if I should have posted this in any existing appropriate thread. I have ordered a P50 (config includes 2 X 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSDs, 1 X 1TB HD). I placed the order on 12th April and was informed there could be 3-4 weeks of delay (because of PCIe SSDs availability) with estimated shipping date 12th May. In between (a week back or so), I called and I was told that estimated shipping date is 11th Of May and there is no change or surprise in the shipping date. When I didn't get any shipping notification yesterday or today, I called back and the rep was not sure about the status of my order and hence she promised to update me by end of today. Just now, I got her email saying the shipping is delayed further caused by "hard drive". I am not sure if this further delay is due to hard drive of 1TB PCIe NVMe SSDs. Do any of you, who may have ordered P50 with 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD(s), got P50 delivered? How long it took? If its really about the hard drive, I may even consider dropping this from the config (should have done at the first place).

Can I please get some help with my order 4293378647 not shipping. I don't understand it. It was supposed to ship the same day but there has been ZERO movement. Customer service offered no assistance when I called. They simply said they'd reach out to someone and email me with the information which I suspect is just some runaround tactic they use when they don't want to work. I want REAL help. This is absurd. I ordered this laptop on August 7th and it was supposed to ship the same day. Instead it hasn't even moved. If I knew this was going to happen I would've bought it on ebay or amazon.

@Jm567? Typical time to build a "CTO"  Custom-to-Order system is two weeks. Even the "two week" time frame is dependent on the type of system being built.  For example, if the parts for your particular system are not available at the time your order is processed, there may be a delay. Although we at the Community forum cannot help you with the details on your order, you can certainly contact HP if you have concerns. Open the email titled "Your HP Order H### has been received" (replace the ### with your order number). Scroll to the bottom > look for and click "My Order Status". If you do not have the email described, or if your email lacks the contact link, you can contact HP through one of the links that are available in your email (there should be at least one). When you see a Post that helps you,Inspires you, provides fresh insight,Or teaches you something new,Click the "Thumbs Up" on that Post. Click my Answer Accept as Solution to help others find Answers.

I ordered the yoga 920 on the 16th. My order is still being processed and the ship date was 10/25 all week. Now it says 10/30.  The website is also now advertising the computer for about 200 dollars cheaper than what I ordered and says shipping is 1-3 days.  Is this his normal form Lenovo? What?s the hold up? I think I should cancel my order and try again.

HiMy p71 has been delayed by over a month! Really? I order it at Sept 1st, Lenovo first tells me it will be shipped at 12th. However, Lenovo delayed the estimated shipping to 14th, then 15, then 16th. Finally, Lenovo delayed the estimated shipping day at 26th!!!!!  I ordered the computer on September first and it will arrive on October 4th! I won't  buy Lenovo anymore! Shipping system sucks! Nobody gives me an apology.

I have a brand new laptop, only 5 weeks old which two weeks ago, 7 days past the 14 day return policy at office depot,, shorted out when the a adapter plug arced with the casing of the laptop as I was locating the line in jack with my fingers....So i call suppost and after playing keyboard twister for an hour (press n hold this key and that key while tapping this orher key) with a woman (India) that could understand me as poorly as I could understand her, she determined it was a hardware issue and created a case..Three days later, I rwcwived a box, with packinf materials and instructions.....all fine unril I got to the instructions to place the label over the one used to ship it to me..... there is no label...so I made one, but had no info on how it was being paid for..the case clearly states as covered....plus return to HP.I called India again...and was told HP does not pay for warranty shipping and that I would have to foot the bill ...I dont care if it costs $1.00 to ship it... first off, and sadly, I dont have a dollar...much less 20-40 to send it next day or second day...second..I find it disgusting that HP would put the cost to return a defective product a sucker like me just bought. I paid 500.00 for the thing and four weeks later it is as useless as the day is long. Hello all.

My son's laptop got stolen so I shipped him mine via USPS. Using a friend's computer to help him troubleshoot his wifi problem.

eMachines E525 - stock
Win XP Professional SP2
Current Atheros driver installed from eMachines website

Wifi worked fine here. Doesn't work there.

Same thing happened after I bought it last year with Win7 installed.
Couldn't run my recording software on Win7 so I had XP Pro installed while visiting an out of state friend.
Flew home, no wireless capabilities.
Said wireless was in range- yet nothing shows up.
Visited same friend a couple of months later and returned it to the same shop.
They reinstalled XP Pro but couldn't tell me why the wifi didn't work at home last time.
Got a virus this past summer and clean reinstalled XP Pro SP2.
Worked perfectly until my son turned it on- no wifi.
He also needs XP to run audio software and there are other programs installed that he doesn't have copies to reinstall, and would very much like to avoid another OS install.

And its not the wifi switch that blinks on the keyboard. This has been pressed and depressed and restarted and all that. The blinking tells me that its working and trying to connect, but can't. Am I correct?

I apologize in advance if this question doesn't belong on this forum; however, this HDD is a replacement to the one that just failed.

Anyways, I just purchased this HDD from Amazon, and I want to know if this has been sent to me correctly.

They basically sent this to me in manufacturers packaging and that's it. The box you see is the box that was on my doorstep.

Is this correct. or would this box have to be in another box for some reason?

OEM boxes are shipped like that .

Retail boxes are shipped in manufactured boxes like you would see in best buy , and other retail stores .

hi,

i recently had my desktop shipped. Once I received it, I saw the graphics card had popped out of the slot. Once I plugged the power cord, neither the hard drive light in the front panel comes on nor is there any signal on the monitor. But, I can "hear" the hard drives clicking. There is no beeping sound also. I then removed everything (even mouse and keyboard, hard drive), the only card plugged in was the graphics card. Still no display.

It is dell 8200. When I turn it on, the light in the front panel remains orange (with/without hard drives), I remember it bring green when the computer is running. Also, the little light right next to it (HDD) is not blinking or turning on. There is no display, the monitor says no signal detected.

It is working in parts: power supply, hard drive, other accessories. How will I go about troubleshooting the motherboard or the graphics card? I will appreciate any insight.

clicking sounds from hard drives are not a good sign.

reseat all loose components carefully. Take appropriate anti-static precautions.

your system could have been physically dropped. hard shocks can destroy hard disks. I hope your shipment was insured.

A:hardware problems after shipping

Start by pulling power to ALL drives [both hd and optical] pull any add-in cards except the video, disconnect any usb device including hubs, disconnect anything connected to LPT1 ie printer. Have just your keyboard / mouse connected. Now since the system was moved / shipped, reseat your ram and take a look at the heatsink. Make sure it is still locked down in place and no broken lugs on the socket.

Now power on the system and see if you get a display. If so, then shutdown and reconnect devices one at a time until you find what is stopping the post.

If it does not post, then you will need to start swapping parts with known good units.

One other thought. You might try pulling the board on the off chance that a small screw / piece of metal got stuck under the board and is shorting it. Note the chance of this happening is pretty remote however it is possible.

I'm trying to print shipping labels with usps, ups, and this windwo pops up from the sharpdesk composer - don't know what that is - with this error message:
Failed to get the Image Data. Out of Memory of System Disk place.

I have a PIXMA MP150 Scanner/printer, Windows xp pro. The printer prints fine.

Please, if someone could give me a hand here I would greatly appreciate it. I'm at work now, got like twenty packages gotta ship and i'm stuck.

I plased an order on 11/28/2016 and was told that my new laptop would ship by 129 and be received by 12/19 and each time i go on line to get the updated status and nothing has been updated since I placed the order on 11/28/16 so I called on 12/9 ( was on hold over 25 min) and was told that it would be shipped and that i should receive and email on 12/12 still no email and no updates online called and was on the phone from 11:02 am -12:36 pm and was told that there was a delay and that the computer would not be shipped until 12/19 but would be delivered no later than 12/23, it is 12/20 and still no email to say it was shipped and no update online I am on hold now since 10:07-11:03 and they said that it has been shipped however they can't say when it will be delivered because Fedex won't give delivery date and when I go onto Fedex it say to contact shipper for delivery date.  So there is a very good chance that the one gift that I got for my grand daughter will not be here  for Christmas I feel that this is very poor customer service if you can't get the orders filled in time for Christmas then you should have stopped taking orders or you should have told the customer that there was a possibility that they would not receive by Christmas however I can only think that orders were not processed in the order that they were received because if so I orderd on 11/28 and that would mean that all orders after mine will also not arrive by Christmas and you a... I just received my second delay notification on a custom P51 after being promised by support it would not move again. This one just says hoping to ship within 30 days. We all know this is crap and Lenovo knows there aren?t parts way ahead of time. It?s much harder to sell if all computers say they won?t ship for well over a month. What are typical delay times for those of you that have waited recently? I have two other older workstations and really like the quality of them. I really don?t like the idea of being played by Lenovo and this being strung out for months. Thanks in advance!

Hello, It's been more than 6 weeks that I ordered ThinkPad 13. The shipping date has been changed like 4 times already. Every time I contact the customer care, they say the same story of some part shortage. Looks like system is automatically pushing the date a week ahead. Is anyone else facing the same problem?
