Error following Windows Update KB3098779 - 500 Error accessing Sitefinity dashboard - System.Web.HttpCompileException

Q: Error following Windows Update KB3098779 - 500 Error accessing Sitefinity dashboard - System.Web.HttpCompileException

I have a Sitefinity 7.0 project I am developing that has been working fine until a few weeks ago. After a round of Windows updates I would get a 500 error everytime I tried to access the Dashboard or any other backend page. The login worked, but the desired
page always failed, whether running in VS2013 or published and run from IIS 7. The production site hosted on WS2008R2 remained trouble free, but the issues affects development on my Windows 8.1 box.

I confirmed the error was caused by Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3098779). Removing the update resolved the issue. Once a week, every week since, the update is
reinstalled automatically without me being able to stop it. The error reappears every time this update is automatically reinstalled.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Dell laptop. This laptop has been in storage and hasn't been turned on in a year. Originally, all I wanted to do was use iTunes. The problem:
It made me update it in order to use it, but I got an error.
I un-installed it and tried downloading a fresh copy and I get the following error:
After some Googling, I read that not having the latest Windows .NET framework might be the problem. Sounded reasonable so I fired up Windows Update but that gave me an error and wouldn't start checking for updates.
I managed to get it to check for updates, but now when it starts the process, I get the following:
I Googled the error code "8007007E" and tried a few things to try and fix it.
I downloaded the windowsupdatediagnostic.diagcab, found on Microsoft's site, here:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7
I tried resetting the Windows Update reset tool, using "MicrosoftFixit50202", found here:http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683
I download the system readiness tool, found here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132
I tried a clean boot.
I tried renaming the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder.
None of this worked.
I ran the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) and the results said I had bad files, but I don't know how to fix them. It generated a CBS log, which is too large for me to post (10MB) , so I've uploaded to dropbox,... Read more

One day not too long ago, one laptop started up on me. On bootup, I got an error message that says "
error accessing the system registry", followed by another error, " unexpected error; quitting". I went to
your website, downloaded several virus removal tools, and cleaned the infection, but the error still
happens. Today, I noticed that my desktop does the same thing. I ran RKill and Emsisoft's program, and it
is still running. So far, I have 2 objects detected:
*Trace.File.Application.AppInstall(A)*, located in Users\<username>\AppData\Local\<filename>
*Trace.Registry.Application.AdReg(A)*, located in the registry as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\CLASSES
I am sure that I can clean the virus, but how do I get these annoying errors to stop? Can I get registry access back up on bootup for both computers? Please let me know.

A:Windows update error 80070002 and System restore error (Both)

I was getting that same error - and saying "cannot search for updates".

I tried the Fixit tool and command prompts - suggested by Microsoft - nothing worked.

I finally called Microsoft - 1 - 800 - Microsoft and they did a remote on my comp and the problem is solved, at least for now.

There is no charge for this service.

As for System Restore, make sure you have set a Restore Point.
Go to Start and type system restore.
Go to " Create a restore point".

See if your C drive says "on" and if not click Configure.

I have had my Dell 8700 for little over a year and have had problems from the beginning.  I am 72 years old, and I am at my wits end!!!

A hard drive was replaced in the summer of 2015, but I have still had problems with the computer shutting down and my having to refresh it to factory setting.

I thought updating to Windows 10 would solve some problems, and I did this in October, 2015.  Everything was fine until a couple of months ago.  The end result was when I tried to refresh the computer to factory defaults, it went back to 8.0 or 8.1, and I evidently lost something in the process.
Now, I cannot update to Windows 10 and when I tried to resinstall the Dell Operating System, I get for both:  "WE COULDN'T UPDATE THE SYSTEM RESERVED PARTITION."
I DO HAVE A SYSTEM BACKUP ON 20 CDS (MADE WHEN I HAD WINDOWS 10).  Could I reinstall the system with these backupdisks?  How do I do that?  I also have a Dell 2 Boot USP stick, I have a recovery stick, too, but it semed that when I used this, I received a message that not all files were recovered
What should I do at this point?

A:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:

A:Error accessing system registry

Hello Subasri, Welcome to the Forums,

assume you are going into CMD prompt, Because of the way administrators work in vista make sure you manually elevate to admin mode (right click on CMD.EXE or Shortcut and choose "Run as Administrator") otherwise the OS will treat you as a standard user. You can confirm that you are at the right level as the title bar will show "administrator"

I have a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine. I can connect to remote shares by IP address, but not by name. If I do a Start, Run, \\computer it says "The network path was not found."

There is no server on this particaular network -- it's all peer-to-peer, and I've enabled NetBIOS for good luck. Nothing. I cannot ping the other machines by name, either. All other machines in the network run fine.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling components of Network Connections, and TCP/IP is the only protocol installed. I have confirmed that all of the computers are in the same subnet and same workgroup.

There is no firewall software installed on the machine, apart from XP SP2, and I've disabled that.

Any other ideas? Thanks!

When I start up my computer, and as the Desktop comes up, I get 2 error messages. One has a yellow exclamation point that says: Error accessing the registry, followed by an error message with a red X that says: unexpected error; quitting. I reached out to one of your techs named Broni, and, after several tricks, we couldn't resolve the issue. Here is the link to the original posting:
I want to mention that, in the original post, the file name that the TraceApp was located to seemed to be in a program called Best Buy PC App. I thought that I deleted that file eons ago, and it does not appear in the program list in Uninstall Programs.

Hey everyone,I'm new to the BC board and I'm hoping some kind genius out there can help with my poorly PC.It's a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop running Windows XP Home. The problem seems to have appeared out of nowhere.Every time I boot up I get an Application error message on the the 'welcome' screen that reads-svchost.exe - Application ErrorThe instruction at "0x75d0059c" referenced memory at "0x00000001". the memory could not be "written".Click on OK to terminate the program.Click on CANCEL to debug the program.I've tried clicking on both options but nothing seems to happen. Then Windows loads as normal (although painfully slowly) and a window appears saying -Dashboard Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. Now when I use the PC a lot of programmes crash and I can't connect to the internet without crashing. My Norton anti-virus software is telling me that '1 item is affecting your status', but when I try to run a full system scan, it also crashes.Everything seems to be running much slower than usual.I've tried running disk cleanup, system restore and a defrag but nothing seems to get rid of the mysterious (and irritating)message. Not sure if it's a virus or some kind of memory problem. If anyone can advise me or point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance,Custardmite

I've run the Update Repair tools many times, Manually stopped and started services. MERGED default version of BITs and Windows Update services.

A:Windows Update Error after restoring system

Hello Swawindsail and welcome to the forums

Firstly, I would like you to restore any changes made by System Mechanic and RegCurePro. Registry cleaners/optimisers in general are complete junk and should be avoided at great lengths. It's very hard for them to distinguish what should be removed and what should stay and more often than not, they will delete things they shouldn't. If you would like to see the sort of damage that they can do to Windows (especially Windows Update) then take a look here:

Microsoft Updates has gone crazy

It completely killed it. So restoring the changes made by these programs may in fact solve your problem. If it doesn't, follow these instructions:

I have three problems occuring, two when i turn the pc on:-

this error message comes up, c:\windows\system32\jtkjqrqadkksrss.exe (says in the box cant find). i click ok, then another box comes up saying ! could not load the above. I click ok on this and the same 1st message comes up again.
Then directly after those 4 error messages this error message appears "Updater.exe" comes up in a box and says it cant find this either.

I run the following:

windows xp home edition version 2002 + service pack 2
cpu AMD Sempron, 1600 MHz (8 x 200) 2800+
SIS 760, AMD Hammer (chipset
MB ID is SIS-760-6A717FKAC-00 (unknown name)

SIS Mirage Graphics

My third problem is I installed Galactic Battlegrounds Game, when I had mypc partioned half for my son and other half for me, and when i deleted the partition, it removed the game but i cant seem to re-install the game again, ive tried taking the last bit of the game program off but it wont allow me too. Any suggestions as my son loves the game and cant play it now.

How can i correct these error or clear them. Not really computer literate so dont know where to begin. Hope ive given you all the information you need.

Try to install the firmware and driver update of this device manually. You can get the files on the Thinkpad OneLink+ Dock support site: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/acc100252

Hello Bleeping Computer Gurus & other frustrated PC users...
In Brief:
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Pavillion dv6 HP laptop. I let Windows Update do its thing late last night before I went to sleep (ie: finish installing updates and shut down computer)...when I turned it on today, I got a BSOD - the details: "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal", with a stop error of 0x000000D1, and "ndis.sys" as the file mentioned. The laptop then goes into restart mode, where it goes back to this BSOD, in a loop. I used F8 to get into safe mode, tried to do a System Restore. When it reboots, it goes back into the BSOD loop. So, I enter safe mode again, and get an error message from System Restore saying that it can't finish, b/c it "can't access a file", and give me an error code of 0 x 80070005. I disable my anti-virus software (kaspersky), as the error message suggests, start all over, but get nowhere. I have run scans to test the memory, all is fine. I can't get networking to work in safe mode. I can't get /scannow to work in safe mode. I can't manage to utilize the suggestions I've found on the web b/c I can't run windows normally, just in safe mode.

Hey I have a machine that had a small system disk. The windows update component is seemingly broken but I have had a hard time getting anything out of the CBS logs. If someone could help me out that would be great.

I have run sfc /scannow but could not find the files to replace. When I run
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"The output is blank.

Dism doesn't seem to work and I am unfamiliar with it.

I tried upgrade in place but I think a BIOS setting or mbr issue may be stopping me from doing an in place upgrade.

Any help is welcome.

I deleted the I386 folder by mistake and had to repair the operating system...and it seems to be running fine. I had to reload a SP1 but I updated to service pack 2. But now I'm getting a "Windows cannot accessthe specified, device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them" error. This happens when I get on IE, but it could be related to another program that runs automatically. Either way I can't do anything cause the error won't go away...can someone help please!

A:Error while A-updating windows & accessing MS sites

Hi Alyans, Welcome to TSF!

It's interesting to note that you have Service Pack 3 on your machine.

Service Pack 3 has only just beeen released as a RC1 item for Beta Testing by Microsoft?.
The RC1 means Release Candidate 1 which is the first stage of tesing and should not be used by the general public as it is bound to have some flaws, such as the issues that you are experiencing here.
My recommendation would be to un-install this Service Pack 3, unless you are an IT Professional or Registered Beta Tester for Microsoft?..the way to do this would be to use System Restore back to a date/time before you installed this Service Pack 3.
The fact that this alleged "Service Pack 3" came from a third party site would ring alarm bells to me as it has not been offically released for general use by Microsoft?, and is not likely to be so until mid 2008.
This so called SP3 that you have could be made up with some very sinister glitches that could cause irrepairable damage to you Windows? XP installation.

So get rid of it via the method suggested, and report back if the issues are fixed or not.

Kind Regards,

Hello all, I'm at my wit's end so I hope somebody can help me.

I'm trying to configure offline access to a network storage server for multiple client laptops running W7 Enterprise.

Each user has an individual folder on the server that I map to their systems first of all.

Then I right click the drive and check 'Always available offline' and let Sync Center do it's thing.

For 90% of the machines, once this is done, I can disconnect the network cable and then try accessing the drive. It will automatically show the offline CSC-CACHE version of the drive and operation is seamless. When reconnected to the LAN Sync Center
brings the server copy up to date,

For the other 10% however, after disconnecting the network cable, clicking on the drive produces the error message:

"An error occurred while reconnnecting G: to \\CompanyServer\ShareFolder\users\jones Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored."

- The offline cache has definitely been created because it can be accessed via the 'Manage Offline Files' option in Sync Center.
- Reconnecting the network cable usually successfully restores connection to the drive. It's only offline access that won't function.
- It is possible to successfully configure offline access to the same drives using different client laptops.
- I have already attempted altering the host name, different credentials with... Read more

In almost all cases, these messages are posted because of hardware problems. The source may be the controller or (more probably) a device that is attached
to the controller. The hardware problem can be poor cabling, incorrect termination or transfer rate settings, slow device relinquishment of the SCSI bus, a faulty device, or in rare cases, a poorly written device driver.
Please go to Device Manger to update the IDE controller driver to check the result.

Hiya, this problem started when I encountered "generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close". I figured I could have a virus or something, so I rebooted to run some scans in safe mode. Problem is, when I attempted to go into safe mode, it flashed the blue screen and reset.
Also this happens when I try and disable auto reset on BSOD ( so I just don't change it)
"-System control panel applet- if the page file on volume C: has an initial size of less then 0 megabytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information file if a STOP error occurs. Continue anyways?"

After the reset, I was given 2 options I haven't seen before:
"Windows XP professional" -> everything starts normally
"Windows (default)" -> gives me a "hal.dll is corrupted" error

I did my scans on normal windows (since safemode is giving me BSOD) and I didn't find any viruses/mal/spyware.
I used these for scanning: Microsoft security essentials, malwarebytes, and spybot.

After some google searches, I tried to update windows via ***www.\/\/indowsupdate.com but recieved an error message like I didn't have the internet. I read somewhere to add it to the "trusted websites" and I did, but didn't change anything.
Also from the searches, I was redirected a few times, so I think I have the google redirect virus.

Hi All

Some of our client machine(Windows7) is not taking update from WSUS server. When we verified the WindowsUpdate logs, we could see that WU client version is changed to 7.6.7600.256 from 7.5.7601.17514.Our WSUS server is running with version WSUS 3.0 SP1 on windows 2003 server. So we suspect this may be the reason windows 7 machines is getting the error message 'Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x800b0001' when it try to get the update from WSUS server.

So please suggest any steps to change the WU client version on windows 7 back to 7.5.7601.17514

I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. Framework, specifically in an order, 3.5 then, 1.1, then 1.1 SP1. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.

I wasn't able to continue the process, and I am also concerned that this is the same error that made me unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials, (as t... Read more

Hi, about two months ago my computer started doing some weird stuff where multiple programs didn't work.

Some programs, such as notepad, give an error of C:\Windows\systems32\WINSPOOL.DRV is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. I have no idea what is causing this, and found out when looking at its permissions, all were switched to a TrustedInstaller, while I had only read/execute perms.

Also, when I tried to restore my computer to an earlier version, all of my restore points were gone. When I tried to backup my files, an error came up stating, "Server execution failed (0x80080005)".

Lastly, I am unable to set my computer to update windows. When I go to the action center and click Install Updates Automatically, the window closes and nothing changes.

My current OS is Windows 7 (which was upgraded from Windows Vista), and it is an HP laptop. Also, any automatic updates HP software usually installs, doesn't seem to be working.

I have no idea why all of this is happening, and I greatly appreciate any help.

I have been having problems installing 8 updates since early May 2012. I am getting the error code in the title line.

The updates are:

I have run FixIt, but to no avail. I have also turned off services and rebooted and ran Windows Update and still got this error.

Do I need to just skip these updates, or somehow troubleshoot this and fix it. If I need to fix it, I need help.

Anyhoo...at one time I had itunes downloaded.  Now I can't find it in Programs.  I can find a couple of files titled "itunes music" and  "itunes music library" in one of the users on this comp but when trying to open these files I receive these errors:
"itunes music" - "Application has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect.  Please see the application event log for more detail"
"itunes music library - Opens up in a new window of html log.
I researched and found to uninstall and then reinstall itunes and Quicktime.  I can't find itunes in Programs.  I tried to download itunes and receive this error "Could not access network location %APPDATA%."  I researched this error and found to download update to Windows Vista then download itunes and Quicktime afterwards.  I tried to download and received this error "Installer encountered and error 0x80070424 The specified service does not exist as an installed device."
Can I find these drivers somewhere or what should my next steps be?

I've tried many times to install the latest critical BIOS update, using Lenovo System Update, and every time it attempts to, it fails after telling me in a popup that I need to turn the system off and make sure I have a fully charged battery. I rarely rely on battery power and use AC primarily, and I used Power Manager twice to do a full reset, just in case. I can't believe I would need to buy a new battery in order to install it, because the battery works just fine. I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), and exhausted every other update or option, unless there's something else I'm not aware of. Is it just the software toying with me?

Hello, I am attempting to install a Windows Update for Service Pack 1, and cannot do so. I'm running Windows Ultimate x64 bit, and need the Service Pack to run a couple programs I cannot run without it - namely Dolphinx64 netplay.

That being beside the point, I have attempted to run the ISO file downloaded from the Microsoft website and have attempted using the online Windows Update in my system. I also tried manually upgrading my Windows 7 using a x64 Windows 7 ISO install file and selecting "upgrade", but it didn't let me because I "can't upgrade a 64-bit system to a 32-bit system" and "can't upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system". I got both of these errors at the same time - so that's a dunce.

I also used the System Update Readiness Tool found at :

Fix Windows corruption errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool

and it didn't work either.

As stated in the title, the error code is 80070490. Attached is the CBS zip file asked for in the instructions for posting. I couldn't copy the CBS.log file -- and all the times I attempted to take ownership didn't work. If required, I will try again to get it. For the time being, I used an elevated command prompt to open the CBS log via notepad with a notepad command, and copied all contents into a notepad and included that with my .rar.

I also ran sfc /scannow before uploading this all, so that has been done as well.

Any help is much appreciated, and thank you in advance!

Hi there guys!

I've noticed you have helped people before having the same issue I am. When trying to running windows updates (service pack 1) I am getting the 800B0100 error. I have tried all the "Microsoft" fixes (FixIt, SUR tool etc), but no luck. I have run the sfc /scannow and have the CBS log (although I have no idea what it all means). Can anyone help me find a fix please????

Many Thanks,

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Hi -
I'm not getting Windows Update to run. HP p6240f, Windows 7, 64-bit OS
When I go to shutdown, the shutdown button has an orange shield that indicates it wants to update.
If I go to Windows Update and and say "Check for Updates", it tells me to Install new Windows Update software. I press Install Now and get "windows could not search for new updates. Error found Code 8024DFFE Windows Update encountered an unknown error". When I press "Get Help with this error", I select Windows Update Troubleshooter, which opens a Diagnostics Troubleshooting Wizard, which opens "Window Update, find and fix problems with Windows Update", which runs a repeating cycle of Detecting problems, collecting files, checking registry, Resolving problems .... over and over until it finishes eventually saying that it was not able to fix all the problems. In particular is a new "Windows Update error 0x80070490(2014-08-29-T-09_02_42P)". I attach the picture. I've done this a bunch of times, including rebooting to see if that matters.

This happened a week ago and the same thing happened as in the preceding paragraph, except that afterward - even though it gave all the same error codes - the Windows Update successfully ran.

I found a suggestion on a MS Windows site to run (in an administrator's Dos window) sfc /SCANNOW, which takes a long time to run and I did so and it found nothing and still the problem exists.

I found a note from a Go... Read more

A:Windows 7 Update Error, Error Code 8024DFFE

Hi. Firstly, thanks for the info. I had encountered the same problem with windows update error 8024DFFE on my Acer 4830, Win7 64bit 2 days ago and was trying to find a solution online without any success. But then I came across ur post and realized that I have a similar configuration as you. I also uses comodo firewall and avast antivirus. This led me to think that either one of them is the problem. I disable the firewall and can now check for updates. How that helps.

new to this forum, my apologies if I've missed any of the conventions for posting. I have been dealing with a persistent error 800b0100 error when trying to update to service pack 1 for Windows 7 Professional. I've tried running Mircosoft FixIt in aggressive mode and have ran the SUR tool numerous times with no success. Attached is the CBS folder, there were 8 0x800F0900 errors as well as 8 0x00000000 errors in the system update readiness log. I'm very stuck as to what to do next, any help greatly appreciated!

Hi to BleepingComputer,
Let's see what we can find...
  Check Windows System files integrity
open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
type the following command and press Enter:
sfc /scannow
Note: This may take some time to finish.if it doesn't say "No integrity violations found" them do this:
In the command prompt window, type or Copy & Paste the following:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

Close the command prompt.
Attach to your post the sfcdetails.txt file that was just placed on your Desktop
You can safely delete the sfcdetails.txt file afterwards if you like
Check some windows critical services...
Farbar Service Scanner (FSS)
Download Farbar Service Scanner and save the file to the Desktop.
Check all the options
click Scan
Post the generated log in your reply.
