Preferred Solution: Lenovo u41-70 stuck in Boot Menu loop after windows update.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All, I updated my z570 succesfully from windows 8.1 to windows10 back in 2015 and using succesfullly without any problems. when tried to update from 1703 got error which used to rolled back with automatic repair and recovery to previous version automatically after 2, 3 hard shutdowns. Recently when windows 10 is updating to latest security and  other updates (I defferred the feature updates like 1803 using some MS windows utility, So proceeded confidently with update). However during update the laptop entered into this endless restart loop. After hard shutdown with power key 2, 3 times its showing message that 'Attemptiing Automatic repair' then 'recovery to previous installed version' but quickly again restarting back in loop.  I tried following other methods:1. Tried entering to setup by pressing F2 - no luck2. Created bootable USB and started laptop and pressed F12 continuosly - no luck3. Removed battery and pressed power button for a while and restarted hoping to enter setup - didnt helped4. used One touch recovery key next to power button while system is off hoping after system on takes me to sestup page - didnt helped If I could atleast enter setup or boot will try to solve, I Sincerely request memebers here to help me solving this issue. Thanks

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 211 laptop which I purchased 3 years ago. Two days ago I turned it on, & the Lenovo logo came up as usual, & the little circle, but i never got past that screen. I tried some function keys, & wound up with the screen saying Preparing Your Automatic Repair (or something similar). After a while, the screen went to Repairing Your PC. Then the screen said Repairing Your Disks. This May Take Over An Hour. Over an hour later, the screen said the automatic repair couldn?t repair the disks. I searched Google for answers, checked some videos, wasted $47.00 on some answer site, & now I?m here. Has anyone else had this problem?Thank you in advance for any help!

My Lenovo T460S was doing a strange thing where it updated the firmware for the wireless device every time I booted it up, so after reading around some other forum posts, I downloaded the latest drivers and installed them. After that, the first time I rebooted, the machine would not respond to the keyboard and touchpad, and the same again the next few times, so I went into the recovery system get it to reset Windows 10 to original state. The machine informed me that reset had failed on 3%, and now it is stuck what appears to be some kind of boot loop, where it shows the Lenovo logo, but then goes blackscreen for a while, before restarting and trying again. Any ideas why this has happened and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

I have lately been having trouble booting my computer. At first, my computer woulnd't show any screen at all, and the fan just kept continuously running. I played around in the BIOS settings and reset the BIOS, and I managed to get a boot logo screen. However, now I have a second problem. When I try to boot, it gets stuck on the lenovo logo with the white dots travelling in a circle for a couple seconds, then the screen turns black, then goes to the logo screen, then turns black, etc. This happened AFTER I reset my BIOS. Does anybody have a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

Hi. I have a Lenovo P50 that after doing recent Windows 10 updates, it now is not booting properly. When it boots, it brings me to a boot menu that is completely empty. It does not detect the hard drives, any external usb/hard drives, external DVD, etc. from the boot menu. If I run a diagnostics, that detects the drives for example, and all results come back fine.  If I try to go in to the BIOS and edit anything in the boot order, that too shows nothing. Also, the network boot option shows nothing.  I cannot figure out why there are no boot options appearing and why I also cannot even boot of a USB if I wanted to.

I work from home. Recently IT asked me to bring in my laptop so they could update the Encryption Anywhere software. A week after leaving it with them I found out they were still working on it. They told me as soon as they put the update CD in the computer got stuck in a boot loop and that is how it is now. Today I went to pick it up since they have been unable to do anything to fix it. At that time they told me that they had the exact same thing happen to another laptop like mine (Dell Latitude D800). I can't find anything on the Dell website that deals with this problem.

The first thing that comes up after booting is the Encryption Anywhere logon screen (like always). I can sign in there and it shows Windows starting up but after about 10 seconds it completely re-boots and the Encryption Anywhere screen pops up again. It will do this endlessly. I've tried telling it to use Safe Mode and all other options at that page. I've booted from the original Windows XT CD but still get stuck in the same boot loop. I've run system diagnostics from a CD and everything checks out although a couple times it has told me that pci.sys and isapnp.sys are corrupt.

Is there anything else I can try? I really need to get some of the data off this laptop and would hate to have to do a complete wipe and start over.

So you've tried to do a full Windows repair ? Your data is kept intact and only the Windows portion is reinstalled.

Hello,

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (XXXXXXXX). Here's a little back story as to how I got where I am right now.

This laptop was brought to me because it kept on getting the blue screen of death. I found out that it was due to a Windows Upgrade that fudged some things up. So I was going to just give it a clean install of windows.

When booted from the USB. I tried deleting the other partitions and writing Windows to the HDD. The windows installation wouldn't get far as I would come back to check on it and find that it was stuck on the windows icon splash screen as if it was booting. (Computer was like this for 15 minutes before I hard restarted it.)

Thinking that maybe it was just being extra picky when it came to deleting those other partitions, I plugged in my hirens disk and tried wiping it all together. Once it starting going through and wiping the hardrive it suddenly just went black again. That's how I got to where I am now.

The problem is now that everytime I try and boot the computer, it won't even show the Lenovo Splash screen. The screen will constantly be black, and the computer will constantly hard restart itself. (It audibly powers down with a click).

I was going to try and pop out the CMOS battery but I couldn't find any documentation on where exactly it's located inside the laptop. Right now i'm going to try and mount a BIOS update to a USB drive and boot to it, but given that I can't even get the BIOS splash ... Read more

Hi, all. New member here. I was updating my friend's laptop using the automatic driver update on the lenovo site and there was a bios update listed, it installed all drivers and then the BIOS. After the BIOS update the laptop has been in an infinite boot loop, and I've tried everything. First I thought it was the HDD, but I tested it and it's not I even placed another one in.I took out the CMOS battery for a few minutes, took out the laptop battery, tried the whole hard reset thing and the Pin Button on the Side (Novo Button) and it just boots up the laptop, shows the Lenovo Logo and literally crashes in the same second and reboots again, I can't access the bios or anything. I tried F12, F10  plus power button, Fn plus R plus Power Button, holding the power button, I don't know how to reset the BIOS. Another thing is that the laptop clicks whenever it crashes and boots up again (a clicking/tick sound just once per crash). Please help.

Yesterday I shut my laptop down because it needed to install updates, and since it was late I figured I'd just turn it back on in the morning. Now it gets to the "Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 0%" screen and just sits there spinning the HDD for a while and shuts down. I tried the safe modes and last known good config options. From what I understand, I need to boot the thing from a Vista install disc and repair the installation - but that's the catch, since I got this laptop by repairing it for a friend, I don't have any of the media that came with it, nor would it have come with a Vista install disc. I do still have the key for Vista attached to the bottom of the laptop case. How can I repair the Vista installation, preferably without losing my data or at least giving me time to offload some of my work?

A:Gateway laptop stuck in boot loop following update

I would suggest contacting Gateway, requesting Recovery Media CD from them - might cost a few $, but you'd be able to repair the laptop to factory specs.
While waiting for the CD from Gateway, you might be able to recover any data from the disc by connecting it to a HDD dock, and copying files onto another computer.

What exactly do you mean by "stuck on the boot menu"? Do you mean this specific menu? That is supposed to only show upon pressing the button to choose the boot medium. Maybe the Windows installation is damaged. You could try to reset it by pressing the NOVO button and selecting the reset option. That gets the Windows boot menu and allows you to reset it to its factory state.

My thinkpad (P51s, windows 10) crashed.  Now when I start it up I see the lenovo splash screen that says to interupt normal startup, press enter.  Then it will go to the boot menu (blue and get screen with two tabs, boot menu and app menu, under boot menu my options are windows boot manager and PCI Lan, under app menu my options are Diagnostic Splash Screen and Lenovo Diagnosics).  When I select windows boot manager the screen refreshes.  I have run the lenovo diagnostics (took about 10 hours) and everything passed.  I have reset the computer and changed the bios boot order, no impact.  I have tried to start up with it unplugged and with the external battery removed and both, no change.  Every once in z while after testing it 50 or so times it will start windows and everything will work fine.  When windows does start I have run all the windows and Lenovo updates.  I have tried reimaging the computer, no change.

Just a guess, but I think your boot SSD is slow to respond to a power-up command.  I would try turning off fast startup (control panel/power/change what power buttons do)  I don't think it's likely to work, but it's free and easy.  If you can borrow another drive, try that.

I would need to see it to be sure, but my guess is that the hard disk was logically damaged.  That means the boot record or partition information was wiped out.  It could also be a disk hardware error.  Do you have a backup?

Hi All, First, thanks in advance for bearing with my ineptitude and noobness when it comes to computers! Just got a new T480 - i5 vpro.  It came with 16gb ram and an M.2 256gb hard drive w/ Windows 10.  It booted up fine and I set up the computer no problem.  The laptop I had before this one was a T460 that was running fine with a Sata3 Samsung 860 EVO 1tb hard drive and Windows 10.  All my work and stuff is on that HD and I wanted to just simply transfer it over to the T480.  I took it out, ordered the SATA adapter cable for the T480, and when the adapter arrived, swapped HDs with no physical problem. The problem, however, was once I booted up the T480 with my old 1tb HD, it won't boot.  It keeps getting stuck on a Boot Menu/App Menu, Windows Boot Manager screen (see attached picture).  I tried continuing the booting process by selecting each of those options (windows boot manager, ATA HDD0, and PCI LAN) but each time, it ends up back at the same screen.  If I leave the computer on that screen, it will after a delay keep trying to boot and each time coming back to that screen.  The other picture is something else I will see pop up momentarily during the attempted boot process. I called Lenovo factory support but after speaking to two of the reps (I got disconnected while on hold with the first one), the conversatiosn didn't leave me with a very confident feeling abou... One possibility is that you you have a non UEFI setup on the SSD and secure boot is turned on.  In the BIOS, under security, turn off secure boot.  Under the startup tab, select both/legacy first.

Also, if you are running windows 7, it isn't supported on T480

My 230u has been stuck in a loop since a recent Windows Update. The machine crashes while booting Win 8.1, reboots and crashes again during the recovery phase, then this cycle repeats. Reinstalling Windows doesn't work, as the same thing occurs during the install process, even with a 'clean' install. I've run the pre-boot Lenovo Diagnostics, and every result reads 'PASSED'. I've attempted to update the BIOS from both a bootable CD and bootable USB, and the result reads 'failed to read bios". The machine is currently a brick that passes all diagnostics. Is there any solution to this? EDIT: Current bios version is 1.70

I have disabled my companies virus scan (Symantec). I have even ran the window fix it tool. Nothing. I have attached a screen shot of the fails. Any help would be appreciated. You can post the screenshot in your next post as an attachment.

Just below the area where you write text in a post there is the Post button, to the right of this is More Reply Options.

When you click on More Relpy Options  you will see Attach Files and Browse, click on Browse, this will open Pictures on your computer, click on the image you want to post, then click on Attach This File, then Add Reply.

What happens if you try to boot into Safe Mode?

You posted that after the failure the computer will revert to the last restore point.  Is Windows functional at that point?

Hi!

My brother's laptop has Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installed. Yesterday Windows installed a lot of updates and asked for the usual restart to complete them. Computer was rebooted and ever since it's stuck at the blue Welcome screen. "Configuring updates, do not turn off your computer" this is the last thing you see for 1-2 minutes then it reboots automatically.
My first thought was that System Restore is gonna solve this, as it has helped me in the past too.
The problem is, of course, that Windows cannot complete the boot, so the usual "type cmd in the search bar" doesn't work. I've tried "Safe boot with command prompt", it cannot complete boot either.
I've tried with a Windws 7 (Prof 64bit) install DVD, I clicked on the System Restore and it gave me an error message: specify operating system! reboot and choose an operating system". I don't even understand, it only has one op. system installed.
Also, aut. repair gave me another error message that this installation disc is not compatible with the Windows the computer has installed. This could be the problem??
If I download the same version (Ultimate 64-bit), make a bootable pendrive and try restoring with that, it's gonna work? This is what I hope, otherwise I'm out of ideas. Obviously, the quickest and most simple way would be a clean install (but there's only one drive, with a lot of personal data, so those would be lost).

Any idea guys???

My mum has a windows 8 Samsung DP700A3D and says she switched it on the other day and there was a message to update to windows 8.1 and she could not escape out of this message and had to accept the update. It then began updating and there was a percentage bar showing progress. She can't remember what percentage it was up to but it was taking a while so she left it updating. When she returned (no idea how long she left it) it was in the bios config screen main page.
She tried ESC (quit without saving) but after it went black and the samsung logo came up it then returned to Main page of bios. Also she tried F10 save & exit but again returned to bios. She has tried both theses using F keys and also arrow keys/enter. She swears she touched nothing else.
I have arrived at her house and unplugged a camera cable she had plugged in USB port and then restarted machine but again back at bios. I have checked the disc drive and that is empty. I have also tried removing the USB wifi keyboard & mouse and restarting machine but again back to bios. I have also unplugged power supply and restarted. Also tried F9 setup defaults and then exited but back to bios.
Can anyone help? Very frustrated.
Thanks.

I recently formatted and reinstalled my Windows 7 OS. Windows has since detected hundreds of updates and has been installing them. Unfortunately, upon restarting Windows has informed me that it has been unable to install updates, and had to revert to old settings. Then when I shut down it attempts to install them again, only to fail upon reboot, revert to old settings, and repeat the cycle again.

I have disabled automatic updates for the time being, with the hope this will temporarily correct this problem, but I need a more permanent fix. Any advise would be welcome.

Thanks.

Go to your control panel in windows. Once it opens . Scroll down to the trouble shooting icon. Then click on it. Once it opens . Click on System and Security Icon. From here it should fix your windows update problems. Hope this helps.

This morning my dad was using his Packard Bell laptop not even 4 months old with barely anything on it but Microsoft Office. Whilst checking his emails, Windows Update automatically decided to restart to apply the latest updates and since then it starts up in the Windows 8.1 troubleshooting menu, where the recovery and full system restore options are, each tool requiring a password that when entered it gives me a message saying that the password is incorrect, I tried 4 different passwords about 3-4 times each, checked cap-locks and keyboard language, etc. When I bought it and set everything up on the first time boot, I entered a password which I remember every single letter of, once the laptop was all set up I removed the password right away since I didn't need it so in theory the laptop doesn't even have a password yet it still says it's incorrect, there's also a Forgot Password option that requires the laptop to restart for the password recovery menu, but once the laptop restarts it once again shows a little message saying that there's been an error with a big "" face at the top, then it restarts again and initiates the troubleshooting menu.

I'd prefer not to have to go on a 40 minutes drive to the store where I bought it just to have it taken by a technician for 2 weeks just so they can tell me at the end of it that they can't do nothing with it.

There's not really anything worth saving on the HDD so a full restore is is ... Read more

Hello ,
Yesterday , everything worked fine. I had windows updated and all ran well , i installed a ne game on steam
(just telling you maybe anything can help ) , played it all went good. Then I put my pc to energy saver mode.
I went to another room came back after an hour or so , and suddenly my pc was awake.
I tried to switch on my screen , but nohting came up , i just heard the pc was running. I tried to move the mouse , pressed keys on keyboard, nothing came up. So i hit the reset button on my pc.
Then , windows started up , suddenly BSOD. hm
pc then rebooted again, went to win7 logo , and started reboot all over again, and again , and again....
i dont get any bluescreen anymore , just the endless reboots after showing me windows logo some time.
I can get to safe mode. What i already tried :
automatic repair --> didnt work
restore ---> didnt work
manual restore of registry files --> did work but let my situation unchanged.
boot to safe mode , unsintall the new game , uninstall windows updates---> no changes

What can i do now ? im pretty clueless...
