X1 Yoga 2nd Gen touchpad WAY too sensitive - unwanted left clicks while scrolling

Q: X1 Yoga 2nd Gen touchpad WAY too sensitive - unwanted left clicks while scrolling

I've had to turn off the single finger/ single click feature in Touchpad Settings because it is nearly impossible to use 2-finger scrolling in browsers (Firefox and Chrome) without inadvertently activating a left click on a link. Of course I've set Touchpad sensitivity to the lowest setting but I can't actually detect much if any difference between the highest and lowest sensitivity settings. Unwanted left clicks are just insanely too easy to make and none of the several official Lenovo Touchpad driver updates I've installed in the months since I bought this laptop have helped this issue. I know what a good Lenovo touchpad feels like - my Yoga 2 Pro touchpad was excellent. But that was before I believe most touchpad control settings became part of Windows 10 rather than left up to individual manufacturers? Now I'm back to the primitive method of pressing hard for a left click(s). It can actually be tiring to constantly to that and brings back unpleasant memories on using a 14 year old Dell laptop. Is this a recognized problem or is my X1 Yoga special?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm befuddled. Two finger scrolling in Windows 10 dialogs, applications and Internet Explorer/Edge all works perfectly. However, Chrome is far too sensitive and the page blazes past. I can't adjust the scroll speed in settings because that affects all other apps (in other words they'll become way too slow!) Just to make matters more confused I've also got a Logitech mouse and the scroll wheel works fine everywhere - and this means if I install an extension in Chrome to configure scroll speed to work with the touchpad I will have slowed it down to a painful rate using the scroll wheel. Any clues how to configure Chrome two finger scrolling correctly? Is this an issue with the trackpad or Chrome?

Hello community, I just received one week ago my X1 carbon 5th gen, P7, 16go, product 20HRCTO1WW, bios N1MET37W1.22. I am a Lenovo fan and I had notably the T400 and the T440s. Since the beginning, I have touchpad issues with my X1 carbon 5th gen: - when scrolling with two fingers, the touchpad accidentally clicks (as If I tapped with one finger in order to click) and I don't recall one session without accidentally clicking on diverse websites and browsers (chrome, opera, firefox). Each session, my touchpad clicks accidentally at least 3-5 times. It is tiring. - I just discovered also that I can't drag something from the corner from the bottom right to the top left corner of my touchpad : indeed, while dragging a folder for example, the touchpad clicks during the course of my finger (even though my finger already press the touchpad in order to drag...). It is after discovering the second problem that I understood that my touchpad has a physical problem. For a very expensive business machine, it is rather unacceptable. I am currently on a trip but as soon as I get back to Belgium, I will ask Lenovo to change my touchpad. I am most angry by the fact that I spent hours to check every possibility to change the options in the synaptics software and the windows precision software in order to stop this accidental clicks (problem one) and up to now I couldn't resolve it. For the moment, I have via synaptics to ignore taps in one edge region of the touchpad in order to scroll without ... Read more

Whenever I use my touchpad and left click, it sometimes right clicks. To temporarily remedy this, I would just right click to make it stop. I already resetted my laptop to its factory settings because of it. Before I factory resetted it, it would constantly happen all the time and also the scrolling would not work and it would select stuff on the desktop screen by itself. However, it is still happening. I did all the lenovo driver updates that Thinkvantage System update tells me to do. It is happening less frequently after I resetted it to factory settings but it is still annoying. This problem somehow occurs much less frequently if I use an external mouse.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1 with a clean and up-to-date installation of Windows 10 Pro. Synaptics driver version 19.0.17.27 is installed.Two-finger touchpad scrolling rarely works in several UWP/Metro apps such as Calendar and Groove Music. When I attempt to scroll, a little crosshair appears on the screen and moves up and down instead of moving the page. Every once in a while it actually does scroll, but only at random and immediatey stops working again.Strangely enough, if the UWP window is in the background behind another window and isn't currently in focus, two-finger scrolling works fine. Non-UWP/Metro applications do not seem to be affected by this problem.Any help would be greatly appreciated.-gyokuroEDIT: I found a temporary workaround right after I posted this that doesn't fix the issue, but at least makes it less of an annoyance until this is fixed. If you click on the taskbar and then try to scroll in a UWP app, it works fine, and the tiny crosshair doesn't appear either.

Hi everyone, Just received my brand new Yoga X1 2nd gen and everything's fine. The only thing that drives me crazy is the scrolling direction when using the two finger scrolling on the touch pad. I want to reverse it as I'm used to it on all other computers I've ever used before. How do I do this? There're some articles, also in this forum, pointing to advanced settings of the Synaptics tab included in the mouse settings. But there is almost nothing to change, especially nothing relating to changing the direction. There must be a registry setting. Please help, so I can enjoy my new Yoga X1 :-) Cheers Georg

A:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Welcome to TSG forums!
You might try opening the control panel and click on the mouse, select the buttons tab, there you can adjust the response of the mouse. I am not sure if this will take care of the problem, but it is free to try and might just fix it.

We just got a Dell XPS-15z, and, we have questions about scrolling on the Cypress touchpad using the Cypress drivers.

When scrolling down (either one finger or 2 fingers), when you hit the bottom of the touchpad, is there any way for the scrolling to continue without your having to lift your finger(s) back to the top of the touchpad? On other Dell laptops, I have Chiral motion, or the scrolling continues so long as your finger is at the bottom of the touchpad? I tried enabling the "Continued Motion" option just in case that was what did it, but that did not seem to work.

Which brings up another question re what "Continued Motion" does.

Also, is there any manual/help document for this driver either on the internet, or in the software itself?

I looked on the forum and on the internet, and couldn't find any answers.

TIA.

I've got an ASUS laptop pc that runs Windows 7. Alot of times when I'm typing, if my hand or thumb even lightly brushes up against the touchpad accidentally, I'll lose a whole page of text that I've just typed or (worse) cause an email that I'm still composing to go ahead and be sent.

I did a search and appear to have the most recent touchpad software for this brand. I do need touchpad capability, but is there any way I can adjust the sensitivity? There are websites that give instructions on this but they appear to be for older models; at least it didn't work for me.

A:XPS 15 9550 Overly sensitive touchpad

I assume you have the new "Precision Touchpad" as I do. The drivers come direct from Microsoft so there is not much you can do about updating them. This touchpad has a number of additional "gestures" that allow more functionality with the touchpad. Here is an article on it.

This touchpad initially drove me crazy. All kinds of things were opening when I was not aware of doing anything to initiate it. I ended up disabling most of these options and the touchpad became a little more tame. If this is the issue you are having, make sure you make changes using the new "Settings" > "Devices" panel off the Start Menu and not make them using the Control Panel.

Hey all ... is anyone else finding that the Touchpad has become overly sensitive? I looked at Lenovo Companion / Vantage system updates (since machine inception date, 01JAN17) and do not see any specific Synaptics Touchpad driver updates. The driver version currently in use is as shown below:  I have tried lowering the sensitivity (at: Settings > Touchpad > Additional settings > Mouse Properties - ThinkPad > Settings > Synaptics Control Panel - Advanced > Motion - Touch Activation Threshold > [slider moved towards] Heavy Touch) & disabling all the various Touchpad enhancements (I don't care for all the elaborate multi / gesture / edge-tapping / scrolling capabilities), however, I have found that the Touchpad behaviour gets erratic and becomes un-usable.  Re-setting to defaults provides the best usage stability, however, the Tp is still far too sensitive. Does anyone known of a more simplified, generic Synaptics Tp driver that will give me simple usability? ... without all the bells & whistles? Thanks, FFF

I am using a keyboard w/touchpad (Adesso ACK-730UB), which is plug + play, no mfg. driver provided.

I want to disable the "tap to click", use pad for moving cursor and nothing else.

There's nothing in Mouse Properties that can change this touchpad setting.
Properties shows "hid-compliant mouse" and nothing specific to touchpad. Options are "buttons/ pointer/ pointer options/ wheel/ hardware".

Searching, found suggestions to install drivers by Ultranav and Synaptics. Thought it might work even though I'm using a different touchpad - didn't help. There's nothing on Adresso's site for this either.

Any ideas if this can be fixed? Lots of people seem to hate "tap to click", but I'm stuck with hardware that seems unsupported. Must be a workaround somewhere, no?

Thanks.

Hi

The cursor has a mind of its own and frequently jumps all over the screen when I type without (I think) my touching anything. Is there a way to reduce this annoying jumping of the cursor? I've looked at the Synaptics device properties but am not sure what I need to change.

Thanks.

Hi Anderson2,

First, glance through this and make sure you haven't overlooked any touchpad settings.

Next, could you please verify your laptop's model number? According to the HP site, there is no Pavilion model dv6-1375dx. There are dv6-1352dx, and dv6-1375es and dv6-1375et. Could your machine be one of these instead?

Long story short, I upgraded my Dell Studio 1558 laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and now I can no longer adjust my touchpad sensitivity- going to the website yielded a driver that WIndows 8 says is incompatible with it... any ideas?

At the moment its OMGWTF sensitive and its getting really annoying.

A:Is there a way to force my touchpad to be less sensitive, sans drivers?

Hi

I have this problem with several Windows 8 laptops. Often changing the way you bend your finger helps and you do tend to get used to the sensitivity after awhile. Usually, I have my clients plug in a mouse

I've noticed that a lot of the new laptops have such sensitivity that they making typing difficult so they have added a feature where double tapping the upper left corner of the touchpad turns it on or off.

Hang on... I've got a  brand new Toshiba Satellite with Win 8 here...

Nope, no sensitivity adjustment settings in the control panel applet for it. So before you start trying new drivers make sure that they include the ability to change sensitivity. Messing with touchpad drivers can get you in a complicated mess trying to get it working right.

After updating to Windows 10 some months ago I've got some troubles with my Synaptic touchpad. Generally it's become less sensible so that I need to to tap more than one time and harder to select something. And when I've worked on my Acer Aspire 7745G for a long time the touchpad simply stop working, and the only thing that can make it work again is restarting the pc! A smaller annoying thing is that when drawing a line using the touchpad, moving a tiny bit too fast can make it accelerate out of my control. Hyper-sensibility one could call it! The problems occurs both when using the latest driver from Acer.com Synaptics 14.0.6.0, 2010/04/12, and the one installed automatically with Windows 10, Synaptics 19.0.9.4., 2015/07/14.

The X1 Yoga rejects touch as if it were a palm way too easily. When using the X1 in tablet mode, my thumb often is at an angle where the entire thumb is used to scroll through pages, however, the X1 sees this as a palm, rejecting the touch.  Heres a video detailing what I'm talking about. As a note, this does not happen at all on a Surface Pro 4, which actaully knows that I'm using a thumb not a palm. I mean how can the touchscreen mistake my thumb for how big a palm is? Not very happy as I use my X1 in tablet mode to browse the web quite often.

Hi GM,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.
You can adjust the touchpad sensitivity using the following steps:

Press Windows Key + X
Select Control Panel
Click View by, then select Small icons
Select Mouse, then click the furthest tab on the right (should be labelled Elan or Device Settings)
You should have an option to adjust sensitivity in this menu.

I hope this information is helpful.

I'm not sure why, but recently, my cursor seems to left click randomly. This isn't that huge of a problem, but it is some what of an annoyance when it comes to writing and playing games. If my cursor is somewhere else in the screen, it will automatically click there, and because of this I may begin typing there, or I may begin to bring up a bunch of random windows due to the fact that the remaining letters of the message are being typed without a blinking cursor, thus they turn into hot key commands. I've also lost large amounts of writing because the cursor would click outside the box I would be writing in, and then things may occur, like I accidently highlight it all, hit the next letter, and good bye to my message. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I know someone else with this issue as well, we both use laptops. I've tried replacing the mouse, but it still occurs. My Laptop (A Dell XPS) has the center ball, the touch pad, and a left/right click pad both above and below the touch pad. I'm not sure if this is related to hardware or if it is viral, but I'm praying it's not hardware. Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm running out of options.
Also note that when I unplug the mouse and only use the the ball/touch pad, it continues to occur, which leads me to believe that it is not the external mouse.

For about a week now my cursor has been randomly left clicking on things. Not a huge problem...just somewhat annoying (espically when playing games or typing something) it will just click randomly on the screen where ever the cursor is. And usually right after it happens then i cant click on the taskbar or anything in the backround, unless i press alt+tab....ive tried virus scans and hjt but nothing came up....any suggestions?

A:Cursor Randomly Left Clicks

Hello and Welcoem to TSF

What kind of mouse are you using? When you press alt+tab what happens? It should jump to an application that is open.

The left mouse button clicks EVERYTHING I mouse over, regardless of whether or not I actually click it. I use the red TrackPoint and have my thumb on the left mouse button, ready to click what I *want* to select but it randomly clicks things even when I don't want to click things. Is there some kind of driver I should install or is this a defect in the machine?

I've had this problem for about a month now, but here is my problem: Everyone once and a while my mouse moves into the bottoom left corner and starts to left and right click 100 times a sec on its own. Whenever I try to move the mouse, it spases around my screen, left and right clicking and closing anything I have open. Could this be a mouse problem? Or a virus? I've done the Trend Micro Housecall virus scan, and found nothing, same with spybot/adaware/scandisk. Any help? It happens when I'm at the desktop, and in games and I get accused of hacking because I start to violently spin around..

Any help?

Also, the finger pad, same thing.
But, once in a window or anything other than the desktop, the mouse and finger pad work fine.
Clicks even work on the bottom tool bar.
This is on a WIN7 machine.

Last night, before this issue, kept getting "do you want this program to run" messages. The program listed was Microsoft Windows, certificate Microsoft, and location was hard drive on this computer. Kept saying "no", but it would pop up again after about a minute. I was on limited user account so I finally said yes as an administrator. Once I said yes, it stopped.

Thanks for your time

Have you tried changing the theme? Click on Start, Control Panel, Personalization. Select a different theme and click Apply then go back to the Desktop.

Hi,I'm running Windows 10 with the latest updates. I have Synaptic Driver v19.0.12.112. When I'm using the touchpad, not all of the left clicks are registered consistently and every so often, it misses one. If i 'tap' the touchpad instead of 'clicking', then this works fine. I've tried different driver versions and even removed all Synaptic drivers, leaving just the basic windows driver (from 2006!). Using the basic Windows driver fixes the problem but then I lose all touch pad controls, such as two finger scroll. If changing the driver fixes the issue, it would therefore indicate to me that this is a driver issue but I've not yet found a Synaptics driver (or equivalent) which resolves this issue and maintains the rest of the touch pad controls. I've seen a few topics on this matter and some discuss plugging the laptop in versus running on battery but that doesn't make a different in my experience and is not a good enough compromise anyway. Please advise which driver will fix this issue?  HP - I've tried to go through your "contact us" support desk and it just takes me through a loop of questions but never actually submits the issue. Thanks,

I purchased an Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-575G-53VG) Laptop on Saturday. The Touchpad clicks on it's own sometimes when I'm browsing a website or hovering over programs, files, etc. and will open them. Is that normal?  It happens several times a day.  I'm trying to figure out if it happens with most Touchpads due to Windows 10 compadibility issues or just my laptop.  I've called Acer tech support several times with no luck. I've changed mouse settings (lowering double click speed), uninstalled the mouse and display drivers (then restarted laptop they installed automatcially), and added the Synaptics then ELANTECH drivers from Acer's website. I couldn't find the Synaptics and ELANTECH drivers in the Device Manager after I installed them though (only the old drivers) so I'm not even sure if they're running?I like the laptop but am afraid when I start using it for video editing, picture editing, Amazon, banking, etc. it may be a bigger issue with the touchpad's sensitivity and the laptop is brand new.  The problem has been the same before and after the Windows Anniversary update. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

I just received my new lenovo yoga 920 and found out that one keyboard button (letter "i") is not as sensitive as other keyboard buttons. I have to press harder and repeteadly, is there any solution to this? Thanks WA

A:Lenovo yoga 920 specific keyboard button not sensitive

I figure out that I cannot press around the button's corner, have to be exactly on the middle of the button to get letter "i" showed up. I still wonder, what's the issue
