Can't find touch pad settings in Control Panel/Mouse settings anywhere?

Q: Can't find touch pad settings in Control Panel/Mouse settings anywhere?

Looking for advice on how to find where the touch pad settings may be hidden on this laptop I'm working on? I've looked in the control panel and there is no icon for touch pad and I've looked in the mouse settings without finding any options to change the settings for the touch pad? The laptop is an acer Aspire 5520-5912 running Vista Home Premium Service pack 2. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Can't find touch pad settings in Control Panel/Mouse settings anywhere?

Hi loki2007 Usually, Windows install it's own Microsoft Legacy Drivers for a touchpad on a laptop, and these drivers doesn't enable the "Advanced" settings that allows you to control the touchpad. In order to do that, you have to install the laptop touchpad drivers which will add that tab in the Mouse options.Download and install these drivers:http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/TouchPad/Touchpad_Synaptics_9.1.16_Vistax86.zip?acerid=633639058794305220&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%205520&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_4Let me know if they install or not.

When I click 'mouse' in control panel, windows thinks for a second, then just nothing happens - the configuration window doesn't appear.
This is annoying in particular because I can't redefine the right side button, which by default opens the magnifier.

Currently I have 3 mice installed:
- Synaptics touchpad
- Microsoft intellipoint
- keyboard trackball mouse

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 3310 laptop (see specs here).
Running Windows 7 x64.

Please help! I am American, speaking only English. My Regioanl settings, in addition to the buttons in the Close Programs Window, displays in Swedish. Also, when I have an error (for example, a Kernl32.dll error) THAT screen is completely in Swedish. I ran multiple spyware programs (adware, spybot, xoftspy, and spysubtract), virus programs (ZoneAlarms, pandasoft, f-secure, and tds-3), and registry fix programs (registry mechanic and registryfix) to no avail. I went into Control Panel -> Regional Settings and the settings say "Engelska (amerikansk)". Any suggestions? I saw the assisstance someone else received from this site, someone having a similar problem with Office 2000. I am running Windows 98SE 4.10.2222 A.

A:Control Panel - Regional Settings

Just to clear up a point, you say you went into Regional Settings where it says 'Engelska (amerikansk)'.

Did you attempt to change that setting to 'English (United States)'--or whatever--from the pulldown menu in the Regional Settings window?

Hey everyone, I am running windows 8.1 and it has been running fine for a while. Suddenly I found that I cannot open different components in Control Panel. These include, Network and Sharing Center, System, Windows Update, Firewall, Devices and Printers etc. I can get into control panel but cannot open these settings. I have run malware scans and also tried repair tools. I have done a registry clean as well. Please suggest any steps to try and get this fixed. I don't want to reinstall or refresh windows. Thanks in advance guys.

A:Cannot Open Most Settings in Control Panel

Hey everyone,
Please help...
I have tried several things to get this fixed.
I tried sfc /scannow which said that there are issues. I have generated the logs and there are a lot of hash mismatches saying "Cannot repair member file".
I then tried using DISM which also failed with error 0x800f081f and also saying "The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired."
Please help with any suggestions.
Thank you.

I have two monitors - I use one primarily.
My normal setup in Display Settings is "Show Desktop only on 1" - this works fine.
If I switch to "Extend These Displays" my desktop moves over to the second monitor and my main monitor shows the desktop background image with no icons.
How do I get the opposite to happen? I want my normal desktop to stay on monitor one and just the background to be extended onto monitor two.

A:Control Panel Display Settings

do you have the Nvidia control panel under your desktop "Right Click" options?

If you do, open it up and choose the "Set up multiple displays " option.

You should see a grey box with two numbered smaller boxes in them.

Swap them by holding a left click over one of the numbered boxes and moving to the other side of the grey box.

So recently today I got an issue that came up. I am the only admin and only user on the PC.

While I was wanting to change my audio device I got a message that read "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

It also is making it so I can't open control panel, settings at all, and many other apps that are pretty important. Anything branching off from Control Panel and/or Settings is also locked up or just won't open.

When I open settings it just instantly closes with no error message. Control Panel and the Audio Settings give the error box that I put below

Error message box here.

I'm not sure what is going on and I tried looking into it and nothing was helping. Any ideas?

My little brother has completely messed things up on his netbook. It has Windows 7 Starter on it. The sound doesn't work, and it doesn't give me a option to change it. Another thing is, it doesn't let me change any program ideas. If I go on to uninstall a program it won't let me press uninstall, or if I try to delete a user, it won't open up the program to change it.
I've tried to Restore it, but it says there's no restore points, which I know there are.
* Also, the programs like 'Windows Update' and 'Default Programs' have the icon saying they're not installed, and they can't find them.

A:Control Panel Can't Change Settings

Try starting the netbook in Safe Mode through advanced boot options. See if you can access control panel, restore points, etc. (Heed the warnings and tips for restore points.)

Advanced Boot Options

System Restore

If that doesn't work you might consider resetting to factory specs. I believe this should work: Turn the netbook off. Press and hold "0" (zero) key on the keyboard and then power on the machine. Keep holding down the zero key until, hopefully, the Toshiba HDD Recovery screen appears. You should be able to select Restore Original Factory Image. Follow the prompts and heed the warning that everything will be erased.

in the next week or so (the last time was 2 years in xp), i intend to re-partition & re-format my c:\drive and run a clean installation for w7 for the first time.

at the moment, i'm saving what needs to be saved and collecting the various drivers etc. for the motherboard. up till now, the only thing that i find tedious is having to go through the process of checking each of the half dozen or so commands within the 48 odd individual icons sitting in control panel.

from time to time, i've googled my question ... is it possible for all the different settings within control panel to be saved so that they can all be easily transferred to the 'new' control panel following a successful windows re-installation but i've never managed to spot the answer i've been looking for. perhaps it can't be done though i'd be very surprised if it couldn't in this so-called modern age.

to my mind, each of the numerous settings within control panel have to be stored somewhere. i was thinking of control.exe perhaps but if that were the case, i would have thought the date would have updated at each save but it's remained static since 14-7-2009, 4 years before i bought w7.

perhaps it's too simplistic to think that i could just copy control.exe to a flash drive or similar, do the installation then drag & drop the same .exe file back into its original (now new) folder which would overwrite the default settings in the new file.

so, i'd like to leave my question (above) open to the foru... Read more

Hey Folks,

I am running build 7127 of Windows 7 x64, with the latest N-Vidia Drivers from their website.

Basically the problem I have is that my N-Vidia Control Panel settings do not seem to be applying.

I have the advanced settings option set, with anti-aliasing, and all of the other settings turned up to max, however these settings are not applying to any of my games or programs.

I was previously running build 7067 with the March Drivers and these settings worked fine, however they do not seem to be working here.

I tried rolling back to the March drivers however this did not resolve the problem which leads me to suspect some issue in the OS?

Any solutions people?

I would like to enable v-sync for when I play the game Pro Evolution Soccer 6. But in Vista with the newest official Nvidia-drivers (100.65) it seems the Nvidia Control Panel won't remember the settings.
I read somewhere that I should change the write permission on the file nvapp.xml in windows/system32 and I have done that.
It has helped to insure that the entry I make in the 3d settings for the .exe file of the game remains and it seems the settings are set the way I want, but they have no effect! When enabling v-sync I should get rid of the tearing on my screen (a "line" moving cross the screen) but it makes absolutely no difference, hence I believe it doesn't remember the settings.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Well, first off I would like to say this is not a bluetooth pairing problem, just thought I would clear that up haha

Anyways here is the problem:
I have my Bluetooth adapter connected to my PC via USB.
It is seen in "Devices and Printers" as a Bluetooth device.
But when I right click to access the bluetooth settings its not in the menu.
And the Bluetooth settings is not in the control panel,
My device does not show up in device manager,
And to top it all off the Bluetooth service is running which should allow me to access such features.

I have gone through several Google pages and searches looking for a solution but found nothing.
Everyone simply suggests to do a system restore back to the time when the Bluetooth worked,
Unfortunately I have not used my Bluetooth in months so I do not know when this change occurred.

So if anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hi, as the title says, it seems that whatever I change in my settings in the control panel, does not get saved. I noticed this when every time i open up my laptop, the notification center, you know, the little white flag at the bottom right, keeps showing an "x" mark, saying that windows updates are not automatically set to install updates automatically. So I click that button, and always set it to install updates automatically. So I got irritated by this, but ignored it, as I tried to live up with clicking install updates automatically every time I turn on my computer.

But what triggered me to finally ask a question is, I noticed that the settings I do change in the control panel does not get saved after I shut down my laptop. One example is, I change my sleep setting in the power management in the control panel. I always set the Turn off computer when plugged in to "Never", as I do not want my laptop to turn off its screen when my laptop is plugged in. Then, I noticed that this has the same case with my initial issue. IT NEVER GETS SAVED! After I shut down my computer, and open the power management, it keeps coming back to the default to "45 minutes". Now, I really need any one's help/suggestions

A few things that may help:

1) I can't remember when the issue started, I'm thinking the issue started not more than a month as of this writing. I don't know which updates happened on my PC that may be the factor of this issue.

I have a lot of computer experience, and my computer has always worked fine. Recently, when I tried to get to Control Panel, I couldn't find it. There is nowhere on my computer where I can find a control panel icon or access it in any way. Also, when I have tried to go to "Add or Remove Programs" or change my user settings, I get this message:

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

Well, I am the only person to use this computer and have always been the system administrator. This message doesn't make sense. It may be a coincidence, but I had a virus that was "WinAntiVirus Pro 2007" a week ago, but I bought a new internet security and have completely cleaned it out of my system now. Help please.

I have Windows XP Home Edition.

Also, it won't let me download Windows updates, McAfee, and probably other things.

Something weird just happened

The Nvidia Control Panel settings won't save . No matter what i do.I tried opening the Nvidia Control Panel .EXE file with Compatibility Mode.It won't save.

Then i tried checking the box saying , Run this program in Compatibility Mode with my OS.It won't save , still.

I do remember opening my Nvidia Gforce Experience this afternoon and it asked for the Game Ready Updates to install. It also asked for other Drivers to install. And i have not installed ANY updates from Nvidia Gforce Experience.

Is this the reason

Or today , Google asked something about checking my system or something.I just clicked , i agree , and clicked , NEXT , NEXT and next...

Could that be a reason

A:Nvidia Control Panel Settings won't save ...

OH MY GOD , Guys.....

I was so upset since yesterday night. And i went to this shop close to my home , thinking i am going to take my rig for fixing. Also , i thought that i am gonna give my RIG to the people who assembled it and was so sad due to this.

I wondered , why don't i accept the Gforce requests and just give it a try, since i have to take my pc anyway for fixing this Nvidia Control Panel issue. So, i just accepted the requests and installed a Gforce Game Ready install followed by a Gforce Driver Installation (which i did through a clean install as Sevenforums suggested me ) .

During the Driver installation via Gforce , something strange happened i.e when it said , uninstalling Nvidia Control Panel , my screen went blank for like 1 minute and then came back...

I was hesitant to try these updates , since i have seen stories of people saying their system crashed and similar..Anyways , next thing you know , i opened the Nvidia Control Panel and it is saving now

I am going to restart my computer just to make sure that everything is working fine...

Toshiba upper-end laptops come with a "system control panel" above the function keys on the keyboard. The buttons on the panel control, among other things, sound volume. But when you press the + or - to increase or decrease the volume, the buttons make annoying, loud beeps. Is there any way to turn the beeps off?

Would not be asking this here if the Toshiba manual addressed it, but (as they usually are), the manual is wanting.

I want to make the text on my whole screen and system readable by making it bigger. Only the text.

Windows has a DPI setting but it affects everything including icons and window sizes, which results in some windows and dialogs not fitting on the screen.

The options in personalize don't affect the Control Panel and and system window's text.

Using magnifier is the closest thing to what I want I've seen at the moment but it's not very nice. Since it's zomming in and not actually making things bigger, text looks pixelated or blurry and it's really ugly.

There must be a real solution to making all the text bigger including control panel's but I haven't found it yet. Does anyone know?

So i can't even do a system restore to undo anything. I have a minidump file and xml file related to this, but it's not listed as a valid attachment here. Hi, all

This is a very frustrating issue that I'm having. I need to go into Nvidia control panel to change some options but I only am able to mess with sterescopic 3d settings...

this is what it looks like

This seems to be a common issue but every other suggestion online does not fix it for me. I only have 1 monitor (people suggested disconnection dual monitors) I have updated my drivers, I replugged my only monitor, I ended the process and tried again, but still nothing.

Can anyone help me?

A:NVIDIA Control Panel only showing stereoscopic 3d settings

As most people online suggest/say, the problem is not a problem at all. Your computer (Almost 100% sure of it) runs on an integrated graphics card. The card itself handles all the problems so there is no need for any extra options or anything of the sort.

Then again, you can try going into device manager and "restart" your drives. (In other words Enable + Re-enable). If that doesn't work you can reinstall the drives, followed by an update.

Friends - I have been just "putting up" with this but my OCD nature is getting the better of me.
On a newish Lenovo laptop with 8.1 installed, a laptop that does not stay "On" all the time but powered off, then started fresh for use: Windows Update accessed from Desktop mode via Control Panel will often show "no updates" and no issues/problems/etc either. Windows Update accessed via PC Settings in "Windows 8 mode" will [after a protracted search during which the screen/tile is locked].

why? what's the point?
is it a bug? is there a way to have one instead of 2 [apparent] Win Update applets/utils?

One other nuisance I have that may or may not be related: at the Lock Screen I will see the message "There are updates - Go to PC Settings and install". A number of times I have followed that kindly suggestion via PC Settings and returned with no updates. Is that a spurious message?

My setting is currently "notify but don't install".

thanks for your help

I am hoping someone can help, I upgraded to 8.1 last night and all was ok until I started my PC this morning.

The PC boots up and I can log in ok but I am unable to open any browsers, use the start bar or actually get in to most programs, use the search function or get in to any settings as it just hangs.

I can get to the start menu through charms and I can access My Pc from there but opening control panel hangs as well. I am also unable to get to the troubleshooting and repair.

I have tried to restart and press and hold the shift key but it just hangs again when restarting, also tried to log out of my profile but that also hangs.

I have tried to boot from a USB with a windows 8 ISO to get in to the repair from there but that doesn't seem to work - Also the windows product key shows as 'not available' ??

Does anyone have any ideas on how to actually do anything with my now expensive paperweight that has a pretty but non-functioning desktop screen ?

I've had my laptop for over a year now, and this issue just arose. The colour settings on Intel control panel seem to have changed. However, when I set it back to 'default' it's super bright, and almost impossible to read text.

Could someone who is running Windows 8, and has Intel Control Panel tell me what settings they have (under display -> Colour enhancement)?
The settings I'm currently using are as close as I could get to the original (in terms of colour) [Pic 1]

I can't show you what it looks like, because screenshots just display the screens as normal looking, and if I use a camera, the pictures will appear too bright/dim anyway.

Why are the default settings on Intel so bright?

Hi guys

I have done a recovery install a number of times on my XPS 15 9550. Every time its been for a number of reasons which I have eventually been able to resolve. I am struggling to get the touchpad settings sorted. I cannot find options to change the touchpad settings in the control panel after recovery. I have tried it a number of times but its not helped.
A few people recommended to manually install the synaptics drivers, which I also tried. I also removed the devices from the device manager but nothing has helped.
Any help is much appreciated.

Hello everybody

My first post here, hope I'm doing it right.

I'm trying to get a Windows 7 Standard Embedded to work as "it should"

The issue can be seen on the attached photo in this post.

No matter what CAB I install after the image has been build the screen I get under "Control Panel" - "User Accounts" - "User Accounts" is the one I have attached.

I can't find the right feature or pack that I need to install or activate to make me be able to get the normal setting screen in "User Accounts".

Is there any of you people who can tell me what am doing wrong?

Best regards

I installed (and reinstalled couple of times) Windows Home Premium to my tablet (HP TX1000) and can't find the Tablet PC Settings under Control Panel.

I also tried Windows Update and hoped that it gets to install this setting but after the last update, i still can't find the settings.

Also, I found a forum where they suggested that I look for a setting where I can enable (unhide) the Tablet PC Settings. I don't remember the website but they provided screenshots on how to get there, and so i did get there but the checkbox for Tablet PC Settings is missing in my configuration. So I guess that the settings were not installed on my tablet.

I already checked the different versions of Vista and verified that Vista Home Premium includes Tablet PC Settings, and I'm sure that it does not have any sub types (like Vista Home Premium with Tablet PC, or Vista Home Premium without tablet PC) or am I wrong?

oh I did not get any error and such during the installation of vista home premium (retail), and under device manager, there are no yellow/red icons on the devices aside from the webcam cause i haven't found the driver for it yet.

can you guys help me out?

A:Your System Administrator Has Disabled The Launching Of The Display Settings Control Panel

If you added/performed any Tweaking software then maybe that did it. If you know which program that would be, track it down and try to set it back to normal.
Otherwise you might want to do a system restore to an older restore point from before you had this problem. Or of course, if you use Acronis, go back using an

Attempting to change certain touchpad settings in Synaptics Control Panel either shows error popups within Synaptics Control Panel or the GUI doesn't respond.  I'm running the latest driver released in late December 2017. In particular, I can't change two-finger scrolling direction, but the problem is not limited to that configuration. My setup:Thinkpad T460sWindows 10 Pro version 1709, OS Build 16299.64driver version Steps to reproduce:Open Windows 10 Settings (Win+X, N)Open "Mouse settings" via search boxClick "Additional mouse options"In Thinkpad tab, click "Settings..."  This launches "Synaptics Control Panel."Open second tab: "Click"- This shows the following error popup 2 or more times.- Note that the error appears as soon as the tab is opened; I do not interact with any controls within the tab.Open third tab: "Scroll"Attempt to enable "Vertical" checkbox beneath "Two Finger Scrolling."- The checkbox does not enable; it remains unchecked when clicked.Open last tab: "Advanced"Open last subtab: "About"- "Touchpad Information" textbox is completely blank. I'm not sure if this is normal.

I am using windowsXP and my laptop is IBM R50e.

I wish to change the settings in Control-Panel/Regional & Languages/Advanced/chinese PRC, but after selecting this option and pressing ok, the system prompt me to reboot, and after rebooting, it would ask me to choose "start windows Normally" or "Last known good configuration" etc.. etc. When I choose start windows normally, the system will reboot and ask me the same question again. However if I choose "Last known good configuration" then the system will bring me to windows, however if I choose this option being "Last known good configuration", then I doubt the new settings will take effect.

What must I do so that I can successfully change the settings to Control-Panel/Regional & Languages/Advanced/chinese PRC.

If you have a Full Operating System on CD then you can try this:

1. Configure the computer to start from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. For information about how to do this, see your computer documentation, or contact your computer manufacturer.
2. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer.
3. When you receive the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM.
4. When you receive the "Welcome to Setup" message, press R to start the Recovery Console.
5. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you have to use from the Recovery Console.
6. When you are prompted, type the administrator password, and then press ENTER (if none was set, leave it blank and press ENTER).
7. At the command prompt, type bootcfg /list, and then press ENTER. The entries in your current Boot.ini file appear on the screen.
8. At the command prompt, type bootcfg /rebuild, and then press ENTER. This command scans the hard disks of the computer for Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows NT installations, and then displays the results. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to add the Windows installations to the Boot.ini file. For example, follow these steps to add a Windows XP installation to the Boot.ini file:
