I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, looking for some help here.So my computer was running slow, and for various reasons I decided I needed to wipe it clean. I've gone through the system restore procedure but now I've turned it on and I have BASIC functionality, I can't get anywhere past that. It says in the system properties that Windows IS installed though. I tried to install Intel's wireless driver (Windows told me no network adapter could be found) yet the installation cannot be completed because apparently I already have the old Intel driver installed. When trying to delete the old programme I get a message saying that this cannot be completed.  Unfortunately I do not possess the original disc which came with the laptop. Do I need to buy a new Windows 7 disc and install from there? Or do I need to download drivers etc. online and install via a usb stick? And if so which? Please help Thanks to anyone with any useful advice in advance

About a week and a half ago, my laptop got its first ever virus since owning it for 5 years. So, I wiped it using a handy dandy data destruction software.  Got everything set back up, but now...none of my video editing software will work.  I think its a driver issue - i know i am missing at least a few of them since wiping. But i do not know which ones specifically i am missing.  Is there a way i can pull up a list of all the drivers i currently have, PLUS the ones i still need? Like, my aspect ratio.  Its in proportion, somewhat.  Its just a tad bit...stretched.  I use to know how to fix that, but now, for the life of me, i can not remember how to do it. I know i need a new computer, but i dont have the funds right now to get one.  Plus, this one suits me just fine.

A few months back, my cursor just started  moving spastically around my screen.  I use an external mouse most of the time so I  first  disconnected the mouse.  No difference.  I then  unistalled the  Windows driver (HD Compliant Mouse). Hi there,
I am having a lot of trouble installing KB2964358 on a Vista PC.
Vista Home Premium sp2, 32 bits, Dutch language with IE 9.
I followed the advice I found on: MS14-021, KB2964358, KB2964444, oh my! - Microsoft Community
I first installed kb2936068, but with KB2964358 I always receive the same errormessage: this update is not applicable for your system. There is no possibility to choose a different version of KB2964358 then English: not sure if that causes the error, because I am working on a Dutch version of Vista.
I hope someone has a solution for me, becaause I am realy stuck here.
Thanks a lot!

Working on a friends computer.  He is trying to install visual studio on it and he upgraded his PC from vista to 7 to 8.1    Prior to installing Visual Studio, he needs a certain update update 2919355 Then it said that he needed Update 2919442.  When downloaded it states that it was not applicable to his system.  After reading through for that last update, it seems like it was replaced by another update.
I think I should of let go of his issues he was having and just made the attempt myself to install his program in the first place.  perhaps even install that first update if needed first and then try to install.
I thought his Install was having issues since I could not do anything so I wiped it out and going to do a fresh install of 7 on it and then possibly upgrade to windows 8.1
So what was the problem?  I attempted to install an old update that not supported anymore?

My Thinkpad Edge E520 will not power on.  The LED does not illuminate when the PSU is connected.  It's been returned once already when it was 4 months old due to the LCD being faulty. Prior to complete failure, the system would just switch off randomly - it did this for two days. It is out of warranty by a couple of months. I've replaced the DC-IN sub-board, which I originally believed to be the problem, but it is still dead.  Lenovo charged me a disgusting 18 postage for the part.  But as the only other place it was available was dodgy Chinese eBay sellers, I didn't believe there was an awful lot of choice. I've just read on the forums (source) that the fault is common among Edge models, and most likely down to a faulty EEPROM, meaning the entire mainboard needs replaced. I have made futile attempts to email Lenovo support for advice about this, or even to acquire a part number and cost, but it seems like they just don't want me to contact them.  I cannot find an email address anywhere. Is there anything I can do to get this fixed that *won't* cost me a fortune on top of the 45 I've just paid for a part I probably didn't need, or shall I just shove it in the bin and buy another brand?  Completely fed up with it!!

However, just trying it again, doesn't result in a different result. Does anyone have a suggestion what could be going on?(I think the bios update, which just a few days back became available, is related to certain security problems that Intel was having...)

Try to install the firmware and driver update of this device manually. You can get the files on the Thinkpad OneLink+ Dock support site: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/acc100252
After that run again the System Update and check if it still asks you to update some of those drivers.

HiT420 upgraded to Win 10 and 8MB RAM installed. When I go to Shop/support/Tech Support (update drivers etc); detect my product, it comes up with the 'old' stuff ie Windows 7 64bit and the old 2MB RAM etc.  This is causing me great confusion because I am unsure about downloading updates that do not reflect my current setup with Win 10, 8MB RAM etc. Someone (from Microsoft Community) who knows more about this than me suggests the following: and I quote: "According to the screenshots, and just as you've initially stated, it shows that your system is being detected as Windows 7.  However, this will also show if the machine was manufactured originally with a Windows 7 installed.  This would mean that the specifics of the machine on the serve page is not being detected, or it does not need to detect the machine at all.  If this perception is correct, what shows up is the default or how the manufacturer produced their machine.  Perhaps, for a reason that the machine was manufactured before the launch of Windows 10. It would be the best idea to contact the manufacture about downloading the drivers that will be compatible with Windows 10, and to suggest them that an update on their page will be helpful for the users." Additionally:- Service Bridge is running on my machine.Solution Centre reports no alerts.Lenovo System Update Centre reports no updates found.Windows updates are functioning n... Sorry, I am not a native speaker so that the description below may not be clear. Last night when my laptop attempt to upgrade its Intel ME firmware, the system appears a blue screen with words "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed". After that, the procedure of boot of my laptop became "auto power off twice after press the power button, then it will boot into BIOS itself". In other words, it likes: t0: Power button pressedt1: Screen was turned on for about 1 sec, then the whole laptop powered off.t2: happen the process of t1 againt3: boot into BIOS I guess the Intel ME firmware was broken. I tried to googled for related information but found nothing. I swear I will not upgrade my BIOS or Intel ME firmware anymore... Then I downloaded the Lenovo Recovery Image and used it to reset my computer into the factory status, but the issue still exists. I think it is because the Intel ME is a independent chip to the OS, so even recovery cannot help. Thanks for your kind help.

I have had my Dell 8700 for little over a year and have had problems from the beginning.  I am 72 years old, and I am at my wits end!!!

A hard drive was replaced in the summer of 2015, but I have still had problems with the computer shutting down and my having to refresh it to factory setting.

I thought updating to Windows 10 would solve some problems, and I did this in October, 2015.  Everything was fine until a couple of months ago.  The end result was when I tried to refresh the computer to factory defaults, it went back to 8.0 or 8.1, and I evidently lost something in the process.
Now, I cannot update to Windows 10 and when I tried to resinstall the Dell Operating System, I get for both:  "WE COULDN'T UPDATE THE SYSTEM RESERVED PARTITION."
I DO HAVE A SYSTEM BACKUP ON 20 CDS (MADE WHEN I HAD WINDOWS 10).  Could I reinstall the system with these backupdisks?  How do I do that?  I also have a Dell 2 Boot USP stick, I have a recovery stick, too, but it semed that when I used this, I received a message that not all files were recovered
What should I do at this point?

A:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:

Lenovo system update offered me today to install a critical update - ThinkPad BIOS UPDATE US - 8.1/10 [64], version After the installation and windows restart, I have noticed that the system performance has gone down drastically. Process list inspection showed 'System interrupts' using 25% of the CPU, which basicaly means that a single thread is utilizing 100% of 1 logical processor. I've inspected the system log, and 1 error stood out: 'BcmNfcIc driver has failed initializing NFC device.' System log was flooded with these messages. First event was logged after the windows was restarted (after the bios update). I ran the Lenovo System update and installed the offered Broadcom NFC Driver [64] It didn't help to resolve the issue with the NFC device initialization and consenquently CPU usage. I went to the device manager, and disabled 'NFC SMBus Device' under the system devices. CPU usage went down to 0%. Now the question is, did my NFC device actually fail, or the new BIOS update introduced this issue?

Hey, everyone!

Looking for some advice on getting my GB back, if possible.
I hope I'm posting in the right area.

The other day I had to do a System Restore on my Compaq (Windows XP) so far everything is working fine now. Though, I noticed my computer was running slower than usual. I checked my overall GB usage and found that it had dropped 20GB since the System Restore. My computer is currently 140GB in total and right now only 50% of it is left, making my computer run...not so quickly.

I used TreeSize and found that the missing 20GB was being used in "System Volume Information". I don't mean to sound like a newbie, but what exactly could be suddenly taking up 20GB of my space since the system restore? Is it possible for me to get it back without harming my computer? How do I go about doing that?

Someone mentioned that I should make sure it wasn't trojan/virus related, so I've run anti-virus, anti-malware, PC tuneups, etc. Everything is clean. Any advice?

Thanks so much!

EDIT: Okay well, after searching deeper into the "System Volume Information" I see that all the used GB is coming from a folder inside called "_restore{" and there must be 70+ different files inside, I'm guessing these are system restore points? Most of them are less than 1GB (though there are so many it apparently adds up) but one of them is a whopping 13.3GB by itself. What can I do about all these?
