Q: Synaptics wbf fingerprint stop working if I reboot pc, while...

With the pc booted and fully working, the installed fingerprint reader functions corretly. If I shutdown the notebook and I restart it, it still functions and I can unlock / login using the fingerprint. If I reboot manually or if the system reboots for example because of updates are installed, the fingerprint stop working. So I need to reinstall the driver using the "repair driver" feature.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello, I am trying to upgrade the driver for the Synaptics Fingerprint driver using the installer: sp77398.exe. When I ran the installer, I received an error saying: "Synaptics Fingerprint Sensor Driver software is already installed. to continue installation of hte Synaptics WBF DDK, please delete any existing enrolled fingers using HP Protect Tools and then un-install the Synaptics Finger Sensor Driver Software". So I removed the enrolled fingerprints, un-installed the two Synaptics applications i found under "Programs and Features", and went to the device manager and deleted the Biometrics driver, however, i am still getting the same error message. Please help.

Hi everyone,
Windows 10 updated itself to the Creators Update this week and I notice that my Fingerprint Senor will not work after sleep mode.
When I check the Device Manager it disappeared from device manager and if I choose the show hidden device it says the Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor is disconnected.

I have updated the latest driver from Dell webpage and problem is persists. The only way to "fix" it is to reboot the Laptop and the Fingerprint Sensor will work but when it goes to sleep it will disconnect itself again.

Do anyone know how to fix this issue?

Hi, I have the Lenovo Yoga 720 15 IKB 80X7 (4K display), since many days ago, I'm currently posting this on 7-20-2017, the fingerprint of my laptop stopped working so now In the windows hello sign in menu it shows a message in which it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device", the fingerprint option doesn't appear there anymore. When I check the issue on the "update device drivers menu" an exclamation mark appears next to the synaptics drivers WBDI, in the section of biometric devices. When I click on it to see more information it appears this message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." I show you in the picture the information I get in the driver tab. I do not have the option to roll back the driver so I can't make it work again. I checked and it is the last driver available so far but it doesn't work. By the way I have the same exclamation mark and the same message of error in the driver "system interface foundation driver", code 31..., is there any link with it?I've already re installed windows twice through the option "reset this pc" from the configuration menu, one without deleting my files and the other removing all, but I still had the same issue with the fingerprint reader since the beginning of the new start, it didn't work. Does anybody have the same issue and a solution? Thanks in advance

Hi, thanks in advance for your help. I have searched and tried many things but none have solved my issue yet.

Here's the deal. When vista boots my usb and ethernet drivers don't work. I have to plug in a ps2 keyboard and mouse to log in. I can then go to device manager and check the drivers. They all say that the device cannot start. I can then disable the items and re-enable them and they work fine. This occurs at each and every reboot.

I have tried new drivers and flashed my bios. I have tried editing a value in my registry that another forum suggested (changed and "inf" to "system32" at the end of a value, I can look it up if needed). I then uninstalled a months worth of Windows updates and still no dice. Something is not allowing my motherboard drivers to work upon boot up.

Mobo: Asus P5Q PRO TURBO
CPU: Intel Q9400 Quad
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64

Let me know what else you might need to know if anything to help me out. Thanks

Heyy, i dont want to be the first to jump on this lol .
Has this only just started to happen, or has it been doing it for a while?
If its just started to happen you could try a system restore to a previous date when it was working.

Hope this helps you,

About a week ago I got a popup from Norton Internet Security that said "We've detected an intrusion attempt from such and such IP address with the DeepThroat Trojan. This attack was blocked."

I didn't like the way that sounded so I did research on that trojan, but from what I read on the internet it didn't sound like I had it.

I ran scans with:
Norton Anti-Virus
Panda ActiveScan

And all came up clean.

Then some people said AVG was a good anti-virus, so I downloaded that, ran it, it came up clean, and then I deleted it because it slowed my computer down like crazy (constant 100% CPU usage, etc.)

Ever since then, I've been getting weird warnings and weird random program crashes.

I downloaded Firefox 3 the other day and it crashes a LOT. Some of the other programs I run have been randomly crashing, too (stock trading and charting programs).

I decided I was going to do a system restore to a month ago, but when I went into System Restore, ALL MY RESTORE POINTS WERE GONE!! I know I didn't delete them, so I'm wondering if some malware I picked up did.

I use Firefox for browsing 99.9% of the time so I usually feel safe surfing the web.

I'm using WinXP SP2.

edit - I forgot to mention that I came home from the gym the other day and when I got to my computer Firefox had crashed, all my other programs had crashed, and when I restarted Firefox, my computer rebooted. When it rebooted, there was a message from TeaTimer saying th... Read more

I have this machine dual-booting Windows 10 Enterprise and Home. I set up fingerprints on both operating systems, and they both lose my FP's after reboot. The Win10 Ent OS is bitlocked, if that matters. It acts like it isn't even looking at fingerprints when I try to log in. Like, it doesn't say "Fingerprint not recognized" or anything. I log in with PIN then add a FP, then lock Windows and try to log in with new FP and it works. If I try to log in with an existing FP of another finger, it says not recognized, so it's acting like I have no fingerprints added every time I reboot. Not sure if this has something to do with dual-booting and one OS being bitlocked, but that's the only idea I have so far. The FP reader worked fine when only Win10 Home was installed. I have the latest driver installed.

Hi. My touchpad  is not working. I tried all uninstall and reinstall the driver but doesnt work. I hope you guys can help me.

A:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58572.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

If anybody can help me it would be greatly appreciated!!

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L305 and has a Synaptics TouchPad. I use Windows Vista.

For a few weeks I had been getting messages saying "Synaptics TouchPad has stopped working, click here to solve the problem" or something similar. I didn't think anything of it because the mouse was working fine, so I just hit the "X". I'm not even sure that is a part of the problem even because it has stopped coming up.

Lately the mouse will work fine and after being on the computer for about an hour or so, the mouse will slowly stop working. I can still click and when I tap the touchpad, that will still click. I just won't be able to move the mouse. Restarting the computer does not fix it. Usually I just plug in a mouse and use it for 20-30 minutes and by then the mouse is working fine again.

Any suggestions?

I recently had a new hard drive installed on my HP Pavillion 13-a110dv, and we used the boot USB drive that I had created when I bought the laptop to boot it up.  Unfortunately the Synaptics Touchpad has not worked since the HD install.  The device does not show up initially in the Device Manager under Mice and Pointing Devices, but will show up if I click on "Show Hidden Devices," in which case it lists "Synaptics SMBus TouchPad" with a yellow warning triangle over it.   Right clicking its properties says "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)"  If I click on "Update Driver" it says that the driver is up to date. I've followed the various suggestions made by the HP Support Assistant which have not worked, including:--uninstalling and installing a new driver--testing if the touchpad works in recovery mode - it doesn't--downloading the driver from the HP website - it says the one I have is newer and deleting and installing the older one doesn't work--doing a system diagnostic from F2 on start up - there is no Touchpad in the component list to test, otherwise quick test comes up fine. I have additionally done a second full recovery using an HP purchased boot USB hoping that this would give me back the Touchpad.  But it would not complete on multiple tries.  It's notable that the boot drive was labeled Toshiba Msft Norb USB Device.  Why would HP send m... Yesterday my touchpad was suddenly turned on and I tried to disable it with the settings I always used (configuration screen) However, when i tried to open the control zone for it, it told me it couldn't connect to the driver. I decide to try and reinstall the driver, but it said another driver was already on my computer. I could delete it within the program files on the configuration screen, but there was nothing. So I couldn't deinstall it at all. Its really annoying because I never use my touchpad and my hand keeps brushing over it, so my mouse or text keeps going away.  Please I would like a solution. I can add files to what my screen keeps saying; but it's all in dutch. (Also my smart connect technology keeps flashing a yellow triangle and I have no idea what I have to do against that)

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,

Hi there. I've recently started having touchpad problems with my beloved HP EliteBook Folio 9470m.  The issue:The Synaptics TouchPad and its 2 buttons (located just below the touchpad) do not work at all. However, the TouchStyk and its 2 buttons (located at the top of the touchpad) do work perfectly fine. How it started:I factory reset the ultrabook using the Windows 10 menu and when it started back up, everything was cleaned, but the touchpad and its 2 buttons (located below the touchpad) didn't work anymore. External mice do work when plugged. Common solutions that didn't work for me:-The orange light at the top-left of the touchpad is not lit up-Reinstalling the official drivers for Windows 10 (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_166960_1&swEnvOid=419...)-Installing different versions of drivers and even some for other brands of laptops-Resetting Windows 10 many times-Running driver scanning programs (DriversCloud, DriverScanner) Further notes:No matters which driver I install, the touchpad is always missing in the "Mouse properties" window. The last tab of the window should (if I am not mistaken) have both the Synaptics TouchStyk and TouchPad listed, but only the TouchStyk shows up. It appears as if the driver updated and might have corrupted something, or maybe it's overlapping with the old one and it didn't properly overwrite it (I'm running out of ideas...). A:Synaptics Clickpad - Right Click not working after windows 8...

Hey man,The same thing happened to me, and I'm 99% sure that it's due to the windows 8.1 upgrade.  I tried to contact HP support, but they were absolutely worthless (wanted to restore my laptop to factory settings, then reinstall 8.1).  Until HP gets their act together and puts out a fix for this, I would suggest using this: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-enable-two-finger-tap-for-right-click-in-windows/.  Completely restores the two finger right click functionality.  I would recommend that you leave the synaptics drivers installed and just use this in tandem, as that's what I'm doing, and it's working fine.  You may have to go into the settings for the Two Finger Scroll app and turn OFF the scrolling feature, however, as it was interfering with the synaptics scroll for me.

My first post! Hopefully NOT one of many.

I recently got a secondhand HP NX9105 laptop. I reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP (SP3).

All worked fine, except the touchpad isn’t working.

I could not see a driver for it so I went onto HP support website and downloaded the Synaptics driver (sp35444). The install got interrupted with the message "This Synaptics pointing device installation package does not support one or more of your pointing devices and will not be installed…".

I then tried the Alps driver (sp25796) and that installed (is visible in the Add/Remove Programs), but the touchpad still didn't work and it doesn't appear in either the Device Manager or in Control Panel->Mouse->Hardware tab.

Next I tried to install another version of the Synaptics driver (sp27681). This one installed so I then rebooted the laptop.

The touchpad still doesn't work, but now I have the Synaptics Device Settings tab in my Mouse settings. The problem is that all the buttons are grayed out and no devices are listed.

Is it possible that this is a hardware fault or is there anything else I need to download?

I'm really stuck now, please help...

I turned on my 6 months old Acer Aspire One as usual and realised that something was wrong with my mouse. The left button simply doesn't work. Neither does tapping the touchpad. Nothing happens no matter how many times I push or tap. I can move the cursor around just fine and the right mousebutton still works. I can also plug in a USB mouse and use that instead.
I have checked the mouse properties. Under the tab "Hardware" the mouse is listed "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad", and the unit status says it works correctly. I also checked the preferences, and both tapping and buttons are activated and set to normal.
I have tried restarting, removing the battery and Fn-F7 without any luck.
I have also tried switching preferences to left-handed - that gave a funny result: Both the right button and tapping the touchpad functioned like a right-click except now they could also for instance close a window and open the start-menu. The left-button still didn't have any function what so ever.
Hope someone can help me.

I'm on a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop with Windows XP, and the other day when I hard-shutdown the computer and restarted, it booted up with a loud, long beep until I forced it to shut down again. When I restarted, the touchpad no longer functioned, and I've been using a USB mouse since. Also, occasionally the keyboard doesn't function after coming back from hibernating, though a restart fixes this.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics driver, but although the driver appears to have been installed (the Program Files are present, as is the Add/Remove entry), the Synaptics TouchPad is not listed under Device Manager nor is it listed under Device Settings in the Mouse properties under Control Panel. Why isn't the driver fully reinstalling back again?

I've read on other similar problems to try checking to see if power is being sent to these devices under the BIOS, but apparently Compaqs are notorious for being difficult to get into the BIOS, so I haven't had luck doing that yet. System restore to a day prior to the event didn't help. No function keys disable the touchpad, and the touchpad light is white, not red (meaning it's "on"). I'm still under warranty, but if I can fix this without having to wait for it to ship back and forth, that'd be much more preferable.

Any advice at all would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I have a new Acer Aspire 1670 laptop which has worked fine for the past few weeks. However, I turned it on this morning (it worked fine last night) to find that my touchpad no longer works.

I don't feel this is a hardware issue in the sense that the touchpad has become unplugged from the internal PS/2 port, because the touchpad works for about 3-4 seconds after I log onto Windows/when the desktop loads up. That's the only time it works, it doesn't even work at the welcome/logon screen.

After those 3-4 seconds, something obviously happens that's preventing it from working.

I thought it might be my Wacom Graphire II graphics tablet, which is plugged in via USB 2. However, my touchpad and tablet have worked fine together for the past few weeks and have never caused any problems.

I unplugged the tablet, and uninstalled the tablet and touchpad drivers. I then rebooted, and - navigating around with the keyboard - reinstalled the touchpad drivers and rebooted. It still won't work.

Any ideas?

Two things:

1. Does the touchpad have an indicator light that shows you when it is activated? The one on my HP does.

2. Is there an On/Off button above the touchpad...there is on my HP. Did you accidently turn it OFF

the Synaptics Pointing Device is not working on my Thinkpad Yoga 12. Suddenly during operation the mouse and the trackpoint stop working.
I tryed to install a new driver and even install Windows 10 again. During the instalation, no mouse was available. An external USB mouse works without problems.
If i search for the Synaptics Pointing Device in the device manager of windows, the mouse is displayed with the error code 24: "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed".
It is possible, that the mechanism for screen flipping disabled the Pointing device?
Or is it possible to deactivate the Pointing device with a secret key combination?

I currently have a HP pavilion tx2520ae laptop and now and again whilst im am working on it i suddenly get the message 'synaptics touchpad has stopped working with two options saying : close and check for a problem online and close', after this message appears the touchpad still works, however the scroll bar for the laptop does not, this is an inconvenience as i do alot of my school portfolios on my laptop, some of which are nearly 100 pages long and i am constantly editing it, so i need the scroll bar to save me time and effort.

When i restart the laptop however this problem is corrected, but after a while it appears again and constantly restarting the laptop every 10 minutes is just too much effort to waste on fixing a simple scroll bar.

When the message appeared, I had tried to go onto the mouse options on the control pannel and i got an error message saying 'unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver. if you have installed another PS/2 pointing driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. you then need to reinstall your pointing divce driver for your external device again.
Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?'

I have not installed any PS/2 pointing drivers but I decided to try and reinstall it again just to be sure but when I reinstalled it i had to restart my computer and when i came back on it was working fine... for a while. The message appeared again and reinstalling it was just a comp... Read more
