Q: Synaptics wbf fingerprint stop working if I reboot pc, while...

With the pc booted and fully working, the installed fingerprint reader functions corretly. If I shutdown the notebook and I restart it, it still functions and I can unlock / login using the fingerprint. If I reboot manually or if the system reboots for example because of updates are installed, the fingerprint stop working. So I need to reinstall the driver using the "repair driver" feature.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A couple of days back, after a windows update, the fingerprint scanner on my Thinkpad X270 has stopped working.  Initially, in Device Manager, it displayed the following:  "This device cannot start (Code 10)" But after I tried to update the drivers, it now displays: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." Any ideas what I can do to fix it? It's as if it just suddenly stopped working overnight.

Okey!  Few rounds around the Internet got me absolutely nowhere. Lenovo said that it was a known problem and the only way to fix it is to do a factory reset.... BULLS** is my response to that. Anything software related can be fixed without nuking your system. So i refused to give up and with a bit of trial and error i found a way. You have to tie your Microsoft account to a pin AGAIN! Even if you already had one. I guess the account is tied to your hardware somehow. Here are simple steps to fix it:  1. Make shure to Activate and Resett fingerprint reader in the BIOS Reboot and enter the BIOS (f1 during boot) Go to Security > fingerprint Make sure Predesktop Authentication is [Enabled]And to to "Reset Fingerprint Data" and press [Enter] to reset Save and exit   2. Make shure drivers are up to date and working Run Lenovo Vantage (windows store) to make sure your running the latest drivers for everything including the fingerprint reader. You can also download the drivers directly form Lenovos product support page, but Vantage actually works (so Kudos to Lenovo for that one). After that check you device manager if the driver is running currently. Like this: (Start menu > type "device manager")Like this... I've seen this thread somewhere before, but I don't think I see a resolution that will help me. My Flex 5 fingerprint hasn't worked for sometime. I've deleted, updated reloaded, disabled the driver and uppated.  I've reinstalled the chip set and went into the bio to make sure the right settings are enabled. I even explored the possibility there might be a register edit (mind you I'm not a programer by any means).  Bottom line is the driver indicates that there is a failure to load (code 10) and has never worked even for a short time since trying to fix it given I noticed some of the discussions indicate a very short term functionality. Anyone have some ideas given this doesn't seem to be a isolated problem?  I am not open to a clean system or total windows install of any kind given I would rather just be disaapointed than invest all of the time that would take.  Thanks!!!

Hi, thanks in advance for your help. I have searched and tried many things but none have solved my issue yet.

Here's the deal. When vista boots my usb and ethernet drivers don't work. I have to plug in a ps2 keyboard and mouse to log in. I can then go to device manager and check the drivers. They all say that the device cannot start. I can then disable the items and re-enable them and they work fine. This occurs at each and every reboot.

I have tried new drivers and flashed my bios. I have tried editing a value in my registry that another forum suggested (changed and "inf" to "system32" at the end of a value, I can look it up if needed). I then uninstalled a months worth of Windows updates and still no dice. Something is not allowing my motherboard drivers to work upon boot up.

Mobo: Asus P5Q PRO TURBO
CPU: Intel Q9400 Quad
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64

Let me know what else you might need to know if anything to help me out. Thanks

Hi everyone,
Windows 10 updated itself to the Creators Update this week and I notice that my Fingerprint Senor will not work after sleep mode.
When I check the Device Manager it disappeared from device manager and if I choose the show hidden device it says the Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor is disconnected.

I have updated the latest driver from Dell webpage and problem is persists. The only way to "fix" it is to reboot the Laptop and the Fingerprint Sensor will work but when it goes to sleep it will disconnect itself again.

Do anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks.

Hi, I have the Lenovo Yoga 720 15 IKB 80X7 (4K display), since many days ago, I'm currently posting this on 7-20-2017, the fingerprint of my laptop stopped working so now In the windows hello sign in menu it shows a message in which it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device", the fingerprint option doesn't appear there anymore. When I check the issue on the "update device drivers menu" an exclamation mark appears next to the synaptics drivers WBDI, in the section of biometric devices. When I click on it to see more information it appears this message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." I show you in the picture the information I get in the driver tab. I do not have the option to roll back the driver so I can't make it work again. I checked and it is the last driver available so far but it doesn't work. By the way I have the same exclamation mark and the same message of error in the driver "system interface foundation driver", code 31..., is there any link with it?I've already re installed windows twice through the option "reset this pc" from the configuration menu, one without deleting my files and the other removing all, but I still had the same issue with the fingerprint reader since the beginning of the new start, it didn't work. Does anybody have the same issue and a solution? Thanks in advance

About a week ago I got a popup from Norton Internet Security that said "We've detected an intrusion attempt from such and such IP address with the DeepThroat Trojan. This attack was blocked."

I didn't like the way that sounded so I did research on that trojan, but from what I read on the internet it didn't sound like I had it.

I ran scans with:
SpyBoy
AdAware
Norton Anti-Virus
Panda ActiveScan

And all came up clean.

Then some people said AVG was a good anti-virus, so I downloaded that, ran it, it came up clean, and then I deleted it because it slowed my computer down like crazy (constant 100% CPU usage, etc.)

Ever since then, I've been getting weird warnings and weird random program crashes.

I downloaded Firefox 3 the other day and it crashes a LOT. Some of the other programs I run have been randomly crashing, too (stock trading and charting programs).

I decided I was going to do a system restore to a month ago, but when I went into System Restore, ALL MY RESTORE POINTS WERE GONE!! I know I didn't delete them, so I'm wondering if some malware I picked up did.

I use Firefox for browsing 99.9% of the time so I usually feel safe surfing the web.

I'm using WinXP SP2.

I have this machine dual-booting Windows 10 Enterprise and Home. I set up fingerprints on both operating systems, and they both lose my FP's after reboot. The Win10 Ent OS is bitlocked, if that matters. It acts like it isn't even looking at fingerprints when I try to log in. Like, it doesn't say "Fingerprint not recognized" or anything. I log in with PIN then add a FP, then lock Windows and try to log in with new FP and it works. If I try to log in with an existing FP of another finger, it says not recognized, so it's acting like I have no fingerprints added every time I reboot. Not sure if this has something to do with dual-booting and one OS being bitlocked, but that's the only idea I have so far. The FP reader worked fine when only Win10 Home was installed. I have the latest driver installed.

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L305 and has a Synaptics TouchPad. I use Windows Vista.

For a few weeks I had been getting messages saying "Synaptics TouchPad has stopped working, click here to solve the problem" or something similar. I didn't think anything of it because the mouse was working fine, so I just hit the "X". I'm not even sure that is a part of the problem even because it has stopped coming up.

Lately the mouse will work fine and after being on the computer for about an hour or so, the mouse will slowly stop working. I can still click and when I tap the touchpad, that will still click. I just won't be able to move the mouse. Restarting the computer does not fix it. Usually I just plug in a mouse and use it for 20-30 minutes and by then the mouse is working fine again.

Any suggestions?

A:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58572.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

I recently had a new hard drive installed on my HP Pavillion 13-a110dv, and we used the boot USB drive that I had created when I bought the laptop to boot it up.  Unfortunately the Synaptics Touchpad has not worked since the HD install.  The device does not show up initially in the Device Manager under Mice and Pointing Devices, but will show up if I click on "Show Hidden Devices," in which case it lists "Synaptics SMBus TouchPad" with a yellow warning triangle over it.   Right clicking its properties says "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. I turned on my 6 months old Acer Aspire One as usual and realised that something was wrong with my mouse. The left button simply doesn't work. Neither does tapping the touchpad. Nothing happens no matter how many times I push or tap. I can move the cursor around just fine and the right mousebutton still works. I can also plug in a USB mouse and use that instead.
I have checked the mouse properties. Under the tab "Hardware" the mouse is listed "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad", and the unit status says it works correctly. I also checked the preferences, and both tapping and buttons are activated and set to normal.
I have tried restarting, removing the battery and Fn-F7 without any luck.
I have also tried switching preferences to left-handed - that gave a funny result: Both the right button and tapping the touchpad functioned like a right-click except now they could also for instance close a window and open the start-menu. The left-button still didn't have any function what so ever.
