Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd - screen display 2 white colors

Q: Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd - screen display 2 white colors

Hi, I 'm having problem with my new laptop screen display. (Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd signature edition)I have noticed that there is like 2 different color areas. It's really visible when i'm displaying a white page. There is an 'external frame', 2cm width from the screen edge, all around. In the external rectangular form, the white color seems yellow. At contrary the center one has perfect white. As you can see here : Note: The problem is permanent. It also appears in the bios and in the display checking control. My laptop costed me almost $3k, I'm really disappointed. Is anyone experiencing the same problem ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello CNevayThanks for using the Lenovo forums.Definitely looks like screen backlight bleeding through.

Check if this is present in the BIOS, if it is, then I would recommend that you get in touch with your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hello everyone, I received my P40 Yoga only two or three months ago, and I'm highly concerned about one problem I have. There's an extreme count of small white dots (d?2mm) all over the screen. They are significantly brighter that the rest of the screen, although colors of pixels behind are untouched. Also, when I'm touching/pressing near them nothing happens, although they disappear when dark/black images are covering them. Brightness of the dots seems to be constant relative to the brightness of the screen. That means if I turn screen brightness down, they become less bright too.First spots have emerged just after a week of use, but I ignored them. They were (and still are) in the left bottom part of the screen. Now practically most of the screen is covered with dots. Though, I think, there's a bit more dots on the bottom of the screen than there's on top of the screen. Also, it's very unpleasant to see more 'constellations' on a relatively expensive laptop, than I can see on the sky. At the moment, I can't contact my local service center due to certain circumstances. But do you think it is covered by warranty? Or if it isn't, can you please tell me, how can I find the model number of the 1440p IPS screen? Just as an example, there is a photo of a small area of the screen that has the problem attached to this post.

Hi there,  i was working on the computer yesterday when all of a sudden my screen turned black and white, and hasn't gone color except when it's locked. I can't find anything in the control panel to fix it, and my drivers are up to date. The one solution I saw offered for a similar issue was to put windows+ctrl+c, but that doesn't do anything for my screen. I've restarted it too, of course.  Help! I'm an interior designer and NEED color. I'm assuming the attached image is black and white? but can't really tell.

Hi, Since I brought the laptop I have always had an issue with fixing the screen brightness. The meter would change on pressing the buttens but not screen brightness. Now, (may be after some automatic updates) my screen is completely off - I get a full black screen. I am able to access my laptop screen by connecting an external monitor and duplicating my screen. I have tried to reset the computer using recovery options but even that doesn't work. What should I do? Thank you,

Dear community,

maybe you can help. I just made aquisition of a thinkpad yoga S1 (DXdiag here attached) DxDiag TP-Yoga S1.txt

I am very happy with it, except when I want to use an external display with the mini-HDMI-VGA dongle delivered by Lenovo:

The extended desktop on this external display is quite bad quality. This is happening on different external monitors which are very good when attached to my other computer.

What problem can it be? Graphic card? Dongle? driver?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Elwood

A:Bad display quality on externel screen / Thinkpad Yoga S1

I'd say the dongle is where you want to start. Have Lenovo send you a new one. You've already demonstrated that it's not the monitor, so that leaves items supplied by Lenovo and you'll have a significantly easier time getting them to agree to send you a dongle that probably costs them very little to produce compared to anything else. Plus it's easier for you to test and the most likely scenario to fix your issue. If there were something wrong with the GPU on the unit, you'd expect it to affect the internal display as well as external and do so equally/uniformly. The driver idea is possible, but highly unlikely, but if there's an updated driver and you want to install it while waiting for a new dongle to show up, knock yourself out.

Got new X1 Yoga 2nd Gen OLED, having problems with the display settings.  The screen colors are incredibly rich and the colors are borderline neon and strain the eyes after more than 15 minutes of use.  I finally found a way to reduce the neon glow by going to the Intel Graphic Settings and adjusting the color gamut option slider from vibrant to one step down toward natural colors.  The problem, is that after a the computer is put to sleep or restarted, it goes back to the neon colors.  Is there a way to get these settings to stay without having to change it every time I open up the computer?  The display is amazing for viewing movies with super vibrant sharp colors, but when it's in vibrant factory settings its very bad.  The colors on webpages and onscreen keep increasing and decreasing in brightness randomly.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 configured with the 4K screen that is about one year old now. It recently developed an issue with the screen where a specific portion of the screen on the right side flickers when there is a dark color being displayed there. If the screen is displaying white in that area, then it does not flicker at all. I have never experienced this before with the screen. This issue occurs regardless of which program is open. I have completed all the updates and reinstalled the graphics drivers, but the issue persists. What else should I do to resolve the issue? Does this issue sound like a possible hardware failure or is it more likely a software/driver problem? I have an update to the issue; the issue has worsened. The right side of the screen has now developed a pitch black band that is wider at the top and tapers at the bottom. The mouse cursor disappears when dragged to that edge of the screen instead of just stopping along the edge. Additionally, I can see a shadow on that side of the screen when I look at the screen with a dark grey background. I will have to conclude at this point that the LCD is bleeding and defective.

I have a prolem with my yoga 3 proThe display of white colour is too dark, like the brightness is not at 100%.It is similar to paper display, only half that yellow/dark.I also have an asus laptop and checked on both laptops, and my asus displays the white colour way more accurate and whiter. On my yoga 3, the white is like warm colour and not cold white colour.I had other laptops and this is the first time I see this yellowish display, and it is annoying.I have disabled the auto display brightness.I read about the yoga 2 having the same problem, that was corrected by an update of bios and energy management driver. Hi.  This is my first post on Lenovo forums.  Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.  I don't know much about computers and I'm about ready to hurl my new Yoga 900 (high definition display 3200 by 1800 resolution) over a cliff and jump with it!  I've had it for three weeks, and recently spent a few days setting it up with my apps and files ready for work.  When the display is working properly it's beautiful.  But, coincidence or not?, when Windows 10 Home updates have downloaded, the screen has become hazy with very unnatural colours.  Too much yellow and red in the mix, and the whole image is very hazy. It came good for several days, but yesterday when there were some more Windows updates, it's hazy again, and seems to be staying that way.  Ugh!!  I don't know if it's the Windows updates causing the issue, but it seems to happen at around the same time.. I tried updating the Display Adapter driver with the one for the Yoga 900 currently available on the Lenovo download site (Intel graphics driver released 13 May, Version 20.19.15.4364) but after downloading and going through the install process smoothly, I get a message saying that Windows has determined that the current one is the best, and the downloaded one is not verified by the computer manufacturer.  But it's Lenovo that's made this new driver available on their download website!!  Why wo... I know it is a profile issue, tried deleting profile, but work has us login to Azure AD, and that screwed that up - had to reset to start  the process over. This is actually the second thinkpad I have had with this problem. The screen kind of flickers in spots and actually whites out after a few minutes. I can partially correct the problem by either flattening the screen (180 degrees) or sometime by pressing down in the space below the key board. I think this is a hardware problem, connection problem. The problem is especially bad when typing.

Ideas?????

Hi everyone,

I bought in January a new Thinkpad Yoga 260 and am very happy with it. But in the last weeks i recognized some yellow stains or clouds on my display. I checked it also in the Bios and on a other Os and they are still recognizable. They are only visible on a horizontal line and they aren?t fix, because someday they are more intense on the left side and on another day more on the right side.
The strange thing is also that when I clean my display, they fade away and after some time they come back.

Therefore I would like to ask here what the issue could be.
Thanks and Greetings,
albflo

I am looking at getting 2 machines, one for a family member who wants to edit with Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint, and one general-purpose one for myself. The FHD 1920x1080 anti-glare screen on the 460 has been criticized for less-than-wide gamut support and bland colours.  I notice that it can now be configured with the WQHD 2560x1440 glare IPS.  What is the colour gamut % of this WQHD option? Would this be the same screen or have similar characteristics as the WQHD panel in the Thinkpad P40? Does anyone have feedback on how the glare and additional resolution impact everyday usability?Or should I just go with the X1 Yoga and it's FHD/WQHD anti-glare options?

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYaIh8wqwsI I've been using this laptop for 3 months now and the issue started last night. After being off all night, it was working ok for about 4 hours today, but then started doing this again. Turning screen off/on or changing resolution can "fix" the issue temporarily, but it starts back within minutes. Even just booting up into the bios menu and waiting long enough has produced the issue once it's started. Average reported tempatures during use today: 39-49C, so I don't think it's overheating. I updated BIOS from 1.15 to 1.25 just-in-case, but I get the feeling I'm going to have to send this off for repair. Is this a common issue? The closest thing I found was flickering with reduced brightness but that looks nothing like this, plus I've run at 100% brightness since purchase. I can't help but notice 3rd gen has dropped the OLED option... Considering I use this machine for work, I'd take a matte IPS if it's going to be more reliable than this OLED display.

Hello, i have some issues with the display of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 260. It shows some yellow spots on the display, especially in the lower corners. I have already contacted the Lenovo Support Team concerning warranty. But Lenovo claims, that my Laptop is no longer covered by the warranty, because i have removed the lamination sheet of the display and replaced it by another one. So now i want to exchange the display on my own. Is it possible to order a display without any further services, so that i can do the exchange of my display by my self? I'm truly at my ends dealing with this issue, and searching without luck for a fix. As stated above, I've got a 2015 era Lenovo Yoga 12 (S2?) 20DK that has been used on and off over the last 18 months. About 6 months ago it started; while flipping the screen from laptop mode to tablet mode, the screen will flicker a few times and after completing the transition to tablet the screen is off. Won't power up, nothing. Now during the act of flipping to tablet mode I can stop at certain points before folding it totally flat into tablet mode, and it will work fine (keyboard/mouse disabled, screen rotation works). There seems to be a sweet spot at about a 45 degree angle in tablet mode that it works fine. Even like that, if I even bump it a little more towards full on flipped back tablet mode, it'll shutdown. I've just been ignoring the problem for the most part but for a new job I started I need it to go into full tablet mode. Everything works fine in traditional Laptop Mode. I've tried updating the Driver, BIOS, and Windows.I've disabled the Sensor Data Service and Sensor Monitoring ServiceTried using a strong magnet on different points around bottom of bezel to "fool" any sensors Nothing is working. Signed up for this specific topic; been searching everywhere with nothing panning out.  Conexant SmartAudio HD, Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink Dock, and Intel(R) Display Audio are my sound drivers/controllers.  Conexant is running computer speakers in HD, I have no speakers connected to Onelink, and my real question Intel(R) Display Audio the dedicated HDMI driver is running through Onelink to my LG OLED TV.   Problem is Intel(R) Display Audio doesnt support HD formats I know with certainty my TV does in fact in sound settings it excludes tens if not hundreds of supported formats and is maxed at 2 channels while TV is 4 naitive upscaled to 7.1.  Up until 3 days ago I new nothing of any of this and first suspected the Onelink which it may still be but I'm convinced its the dedicated HDMI driver Intel(R) Display Audio. Is there any driver or software that I can use for HDMI from the Onelink that is passed through a sound driver/controller similar to Intel High Definition Audio driver which would allow me to have HD sound (this search began because of a stutter in sound for .2-2 sec every 5-20 min on HD playback in Kodi (post buffer and nonexistant on playback)).  Thanks

My Thinkpad Yoga 15 has a problem, which may or may not be related to the BIOS update recently performed. When booting, the bootup screen only appears on an external monitor via the HDMI output. When performing the hardware tests in the BIOS, tests are done on the HDMI-connected display, the internal display does not seem to be recognized. I verified this using both Linux and Windows. It does not seem to be a hardware failure; I have been able to get the display on the internal LCD a few times, by powering down the laptop, holding the power button for about 20 seconds, then powering back on while pressing F1. The laptop will then function for a while, but loses its display after coming out of sleep. Needless to say, this is unworkable. Does anyone have any tips on how this could be fixed in a more permanent fashion or any indication to cause? BIOS does not allow me to turn off NVIDIA, or its opposite, to enable it exclusively. I also tried different drivers, from both Lenovo as well as NVIDIA and Intel, but to no avail. Any pointers appreciated.

I was hoping the 21.20.16.4505 Display Drivers would help with this. Thanks

Hi all, I purchased by Lenovo Yoga 710 a few months ago and there were a few times the screen turned white when I changed from laptop to tablet mode, but now it happens randomly while I use the laptop. The only way to get it to go away is adjust my screen back and forth until I see a normal screen again. Any ideas on how to fix? Still under warranty, so if not something I can fix, it should be covered under that right? (I haven't dropped it or spilled anything on it.) Thanks!

I bought this last year and within weeks it started going white. If I twist the screen or hold it with some pressure it is ok to use.Now the big problem! I bought it on a return visit to the UK before returning to Thailand and guess what... About the only place in the world that Lenovo will not give international warranty on this model is Thailand.I took it to their repair office in Bangkok (4 hr round trip) and they looked at it and basically said not our problem even though i was willing to pay for repair.I have taken it to a local repair shop who are very good but they can't get it right. They have said if someone can point them in a specific direction they'll try again. Can anyone help?Getting to the point of buying something else.

Hello, My Thinkpad Yoga (model year 2014-2015) gives sometimes a white screen by startup, or after a softclose (for example when turn over from laptop to tablet mode). When I open and close my screen after a couple of times the screen is ok and I can work with it. I called Lenovo support because I think it is something with the connector from the screen to the motherboard. The computer was 2 months out of warranty so they say that I could send it to support for a check, what will cost me a lot of money for only analyse the issue. So I asked for another solution. They asked me to reinstal Windows and al the drivers, because they think that it is a software issue. Because there is a lot of software on my computer, and I need him every day for my work, I didn't have time to do this directly (first make a backup and then reinstall al the software). So I bought a new Lenovo thinkpad Yoga 260, and installed al my software. Now my "old" Yoga, whit the white screen issue, is ready for reinstall the software. Today I reinstalled Windows 10, but the issue is still there "sometimes white screen". So I think again it is not a software issue but a issue whit the connector from the screen to the motherboard. My question is if someone has experience whit this issue, or maybe the same issue?

Dear Lenovo Community,  Over the past couple months I noticed two white streaks on my Yoga 2 screen - on just right of the centre and another further write about 3cm and 5 cm long.  These are more noticeable when the screen is bright. Any ideas what is causing this and how I may fix it? Thanks,JP

Hi there,  My Lenovo Yoga 710 IKB 15'' Laptop has had many problems. The fan was making noise and I started a topic here that was ridiculously marked solved when it wasn't, and now I have this new problem. For some reason, my screen has been blinking white (see attached pictures). Sometimes the white screen is blinking, sometimes it stays for a few seconds and other times it's not there at all but is clearly still an issue. I have already updated both the Intel and NVIDIA display drivers and when I run a scan I'm told there are no updates available. When I run a game or anything that requires the computer to switch to using the NVIDIA card, there is also a buzzing sound coming from the side of the computer, although this is not present when the Intel card is being used (the white screen appears no matter what I'm doing or which graphics card is being used).  I like this laptop but these are really too many problems. I bought this as a replacement for another laptop as I'm a student who really urgently needs to use a computer. Is lenovo going to fix this??

I didn't see or respond to your first thread, but the temperatures (42C idle and 65C gaming) see normal.  85C or 90C is a high temperature under load but not temperatures in the 60's.  (Most CPUs, desktop or laptop, have thermal shutdown when a CPU hits about 105C.)  The thread said to contact support and gave you a support document to reference for fan noise.  Your fans would be running when your temperatures are in the 60's, but not at high speed.  Did you do that?  I didn't mark it solved, but if I read the questions and the response, I would have thought the issue was solved, although someone should have said that 65 was OK.  If you had posted back and support couldn't find the support document, that would have meant that it wasn't solved.

Regarding the white screen,  you are going to need to contact support for warranty repair.
