I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Alright, so this is about a sound problem, but my tests make me think it's something to do with Windows 7. Here's the issue :

I have a SteelSeries Merc Stealth keyboard with buttons for increasing and decreasing volume. The decreasing volume works, but the increasing does not. So, if I want to increase the volume (in a game, for instance), I would have to alt-tab. I thought this was because my keyboard was somehow broken and that particular button didn't work anymore.

However, I just received a brand new pair of Corsair HS1 headphone. On the cable of the headphones are buttons to increase and decrease the volume of Windows. So, as you may guess, the decreasing button works, but not the increasing one.

Since the probably of having two defective items, one being new for the exact same problem being so slim, my guess is that something in Windows 7 is off. So, can anyone help?

Here's my specs :
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
Intel i7 Quad Core @2.67GHz
Corsair TX750 750W PSU
Corsair Vengeance 3x4BG CL9-9-9
Gigabyte Radeon HD 6870
Corsair Vengeance 12GB 3x4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Triple Channel
Windows 7 64-bits w/ Service pack 1

A:Can decrease volume, but can't increase

Just to specify as a proof the buttons work, when I use a program that enable Global keys like Winamp, the volume of that program will increase or decrease. It's the Windows volume that doesn't increase.

As the title states. I'm planning on trading my dad laptops. I do audio production and gaming. I have an i3 and the cpu is clocked at 2.4 ghz and he has an i5 clocked at 1.8. How much of a difference will this impact performance? For better or worse?

Im curious because I had a desktop a while back and it had a Core 2 Duo @ 2.8 and I went to this i3 @2.4 laptop and the cpu sucks in comparison to the desktop...I was originally thinking the i3 would be a increase since it was newer architecture.

I would still think on the graphics side its definitely an upgrade because the i3 uses Intel HD Graphics and it sucks...it doesnt even use opengl. The other uses a Nvidia GeForce GT 740M.

A:(2.4 Ghz i3) to (1.8 Ghz i5) Increase or decrease in perf?

The difference between the desktop and laptop is multifaceted. Desktop probably had faster hard drive, dedicated video, and optimized for performance versus laptop optimized for battery life.

And the core i3/5/7 each do graphics onboard. The slower the cpu, the more impact the graphics will have on overall performance. Core i3 are budget machines, for basic tasks. They are not really suitable for gaming or video and music production. The core i5 will suit better in these areas.

Sorry for the bad explication.

My issue is that when I am upstairs windows 7 says there is 5/5 bars as connection (same as downstairs)
But when I am upstairs I am lucky to reach 2mb/s
Downstairs I get 10mb/s(normal for me)

Could this be a driver issue?

A:A big decrease increase internet speed,

Could be a driver issue, a signal noise issue (even if you are getting 5 bars) or could be your upstairs PC is using the G band when the downstairs is using N band.

Hi, I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 and a 1 TB hard drive. Windows 7 recycle bin came configured with about 40 GB of space allotted to it. I want to decrease its capacity (down to about 10 GB) in order to increase the available space on my hard drive. However, when I decreased the recycle bin size, there was no apparent change when I left double-clicked on My Computer and it showed the amount of free space on my c: drive. Here's my question: how can I decrease the recycle bin and have this extra space show up on my c: drive as available storage space?

Good day!  I am an IT Systems Support Engineer and give support mostly to business clients, but also to some residential clients.  Due to the recent growth of Windows 10 upgrades, I'm curious if anyone has noticed an increase or decrease with questions about Windows 10.  I throw in decreasing, since I've been asked quite a bit about Win 10.
I am new to posting on this site, but I've used this site before, when I came across something that I hadn't seen before.  I really enjoy this site and when it helped me with an issue, I always put this site as a resource.
Thanks for reading and I am eager to know anybody's thoughts about the topic title.

A:Will Windows 10 increase or decrease support questions?

I haven't installed Win 10 yet...but I have seen the introduction of every Windows system since Win 95 and it occurs to me that what is currently reflected is the same amount (or even more) of puzzlement, rhetoric, and uncertainty...that comes with every version of Windows...until the first SP is issued.  Once that occurs, users seem to settle down and have become more familiar with what are imagined problematical situaitons, as opposed to real problems where they need/want assistance with specific types of system situations.

I just got a Lenovo Z460 running on windows7.
By default, the harddisk is split into c:\ and d:\

I want to decrease the disk space of c drive and then use this additional space to increase the disk space of d drive (the logical drive)

To decrease the disk space in c drive, I go to computer management/storage/disk management and then at the c drive, I right click the mouse and then choose "shrink volumn". I successfully shrinked c drive and now I got an unallocated space but how do I allocate this new space to d drive. The "extend volume" in d drive is greyed.

A:Solved: how to decrease and increase disk space

The windows partitioning tool is somewhat limited in that it will only extend a partition to the right, so you're going to need an additional tool.

I personally use a Live Linux CD with an included partitioning program, usually GPartEd. If you're not familiar or comfortable with Linux then someone else will have to recommend another tool.

Keep in mind, whatever tool you use will take quite awhile to extend that partition because it not only extends the partition but also moves all the data to the beginning of the newly extended partition. It looks like you've got about 10-11 Gigs of data on there so it can take possibly half an hour or more.

A somewhat convoluted solution possible with the windows partition tool would be:

1) Create a new partition with the unallocated space. Let's call it F drive.

2) Copy/paste all the data from the D drive into the new F drive.

3) Delete the D drive.

4) Extend the F drive to include the now unallocated space on the right of the new F drive.

5) Rename F drive to whatever you want.

I have an HP Pavillion also, (a dv5t) and don't have this problem, however, here are the touchpad customizations. Try re-setting them, and maybe that will help. (I've put in how I set mine. NOTE: This is not the question about the 3.25GB limit on 32-bit XP. But it might be related.
I had 4GB (2x2GB) in my Dell Precision T3400 desktop, and XP reported 3.25GB in the "My Computer" properties, as I would expect. I then added 2 more 2GB DIMMs to the remaining two DIMM slots, and now XP only reports 3GB, not 3.25GB.
I know 32-bit XP will never report more than 3.25GB, but I didn't expect it to lose usable memory if I added physical RAM.
All four DIMMS are the same RAM vendor, type, part number, everything (see below). The BIOS sees all 4 DIMMs. If I boot Win7 x64, it reports 8GB. So I'm almost certain the RAM itself is working, and valid for the system.
But XP seems to have "lost" 250MB of usable memory by adding RAM.
Can anyone please help me try to get it back?

Earlier, I was trying to boost the performance of my PC and tried things out. At first, based on what I remember, my Dedicated Video Memory was around 1000+ (not sure about the exact value) while the Total Ram on Windows Task Manager was 7886. As I was trying things out, I have to use system restore because I have uninstalled some files and needed to revert that action. After the restore, I noticed that my Dedicated Video Memory became 256mb! while my Total Ram is still at 7886. I tried to fix it by settings things at default in the BIOS settings but it doesn't work. I wanna revert back to the old settings where my Dedicated Video Memory was around 1000+mb and w/ Total Ram of 7886.

A:If I increase my memory will that help my PC lag?

Well you could try defraging you PC and doin disk cleanups, that is what i would do anyway. It also could be your video card if it is lagging abit try updating your Direct X drivers. But really yeah if your computer is running slow it usually is the the RAM if you are running xp you should have 1GB vista 2GB for it to be smooth then again it could be your CPU. I can't find an explanation for this anywhere with Google, so i'm hoping someone here might have an answer to this....good problem I guess. I have four DDR pc3200 sticks in my asus a8ae-le mobo (1 GB, 512mb, 256mb, 256mb). The most recent is a 1 gb ultra stick. After I first installed it about ten days ago, my computer was at 2.18 gigs. I thought nothing of it, I was just satisfied to be over 2 gigs. Now, I just checked my specs, and it's at 2.25 GB's?! What causes this? If it matters, I recently installed a 256 mb Sapphire Radeon x1650 256 mb 64 bit video card and a new 400 watt hec power supply (up from 250) so I could run Guitar Hero . And also, when I installed the 1 gig of memory I put ultra memory coolers on the 1 gb stick and the 512 stick. Any theories? Also, i'm aware that xp has some issues with hibernation on rigs with high memory. Is it reasonably safe for me to hibernate? I installed the hotfix for that "api" issue. Sorry if i'm asking too much. Thanks for your time. Screenshots attached below.

Hello, this is my first time posting on Techspot, so please excuse if this is the wrong forum for this post. I am looking for some help on my ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series. My Compaq Presario SR1720NX is rather outdated, but i know for a fact that the onboard ATI Radeon Xpress 200 can have a maximum onboard Memory size of 256mb. However it is stuck at 64mb.

The ATI Catalyst Control Center will not allow me to change it, even to 128mb, it just resets it back to 64mb. My Bios, which is named "Phoenix AwardBIOS CMOS Setup Utility" has the option to change this locked. It is greyed out and cannot be selected, or for that matter changed.

I had google searched remedys for the problem, I've tryed reseting my CMOS before, to no luck, the option still remains locked within my BIOS, and with ATI Catalyst Control Center doing nothing, I was wonder, just exactly WHAT do i need to do to get my Xpress 200 running with the full 256mb? It use to, but now it doesnt, I have no other cards and have been running it for a very long time. I noticed a significantly lower FPS on Battlefield 2 recently, and then saw that my Onboard Memory for the card had dropped.

Please Help.

I have an HP 511w desktop with windows XP. My computer is super slow, but also when I try to open certain things or download, a window pops up saying, "your system is low on virtual memory..." Is there anything I can do aside from purchasing some $50 download that promises things which I'm not sure will even fix the problem? Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

I have searched several times on steps about this but I cannot find any helpful post. All I see is adjust it thru BIOS, however, my BIOS does not contain any Shared Graphics options. I attached a screenshot of my CPU specs. Any help please? I've done this before with my Windows XP however I already forgot how.. please.. I just want to increase the SHARED memory. I know all about the dedicated video card memory.. thanks

IT would help if you updated to service pack 1 as well, and the 200+ updates that follow.
And with that little ram i wouldn't be surprissed if it just stays at the default card

When your typing in your new values, are you clicking the "Set" button?

Also check your Initial is lower than the Max, silly as it may sound some get them the wrong way around.

My svchost.exe process at one point or another its memory will slowly start to increase over time and if left running will reach over 1,000,000 K. This is not normal for this computer as its a couple years old.

Have you run full scans with both your anti virus app and MalwareBytes? If not, please do so.
