Q: Just purchased a new Dell, but have two questions about it.

i had two questions.... i just ordered a 3650, however, what size is the motherboard? is it a ATX or micro ATX ? How many PCI slots are there?

Inspiron 3650, Windows 7 Professional English 64bit
i7 6700 Gen 6
16 GB DDR3
AMD 2GB R9 Graphics

Preferred Solution: Just purchased a new Dell, but have two questions about it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought a domain for my band. (www.station141.info) Anyway, I used publisher 08 to create the site, which i then uploaded to a free hosting site(50gigs.net)..Wen you go to www.station141.50gigs.net the site displays, perfectly as it should. I set the name servers to ns1.50gigs.net and ns2.50gigs.net in my GoDaddy control panel, and I added on the domain in my 50gigs.net cpanel. But, if you go to www.station141.info, all that comes up is "Index of /" (going to www.station141.50gigs.net still works fine)...Does the domain just take time to process or should I investigate this further with GoDaddy(or 50gigs.net) Let Me Know!

A:Just purchased a P53, have a few questions (Mechanical Engineer)

Fellow ME here. I work in the AEC industry and my work loads benefit the most from a few fast CPU cores. Autocad, for example, was optimal on up to 8 cores, and the user consensus was that you could get by with a decent gaming GPU (as opposed to an expensive workstation version). As I remember (and I haven't touched ANSYS and Matlab in more than 10 years), what you're using is very heavily bound by the CPU. Puget Systems has some Solidworks benchmarks that may highlight this. I got the Core i7 9850H with the Quadro T2000 and 32 GB RAM (16 GB from the factory, bought a matching stick and installed it myself afterwards) and two NVME SSDs (but my projects are on an external HDD, so these don't help as much). I'm satisfied with my decision. Back in August, when I ordered the laptop, there weren't any options for custom configurations. I would have liked the Xeon paired with the T2000, but it doesn't seem like this is an option even now. The 8 core i9 seemed very appealing, but I had to remind myself time and again that:- Turbo is no substitute for base clock, as much as the marketing hype says otherwise- I don't need as many cores (I upgraded from a 2c/4t Core i7 with a 2.8 GHz base clock and a 3.2 GHz turbo, and the actual speed in single threaded loads is not that different)- The price was better (paid for it myself), and the difference went into accessories (dock, cooling pad, RAM, additional USB hub, new carrying case). I'm not sure how much of a benefit the RTX5000... A:I Purchased a Dell N5050 J1KND Battery . I needed to verify that is that battery Genuine Dell Inc. manufactured?

This is  not genuine.  The 9C5 would mean the battery was manufactured in March, 2009.  And Dell's labels don't have the date posted as 2017/07/27.

Hello, not sure if I should post here or not but I guess it's related to hardware. I just recently (couple of days ago) purchased a CPU package off the Dell website. Specs are

Inspiron 531,Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.60GHz, 512Kx2)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT- DDR3
250GB SATA II Hard Drive (7200RPM)
X-Fi PCI Sound Card
48X CDRW/DVD COMBO and 16X DVD+/-RW Drive

Not familar with Dell, but now with after Thanks Giving sales coming, are Dell cases viable for adding in additional hard drives or dvd/cd drives?

Also on memory (my main concern), is there any recommendations cause I plan to get 2-4g worth, but not sure what brand, what type to purchase that would be compatible.

I recently purchase a Dell Laptop 15 3558, awesome deal touchscreen and many additions. Only thing it didnt have was a backlit keyboard, so I went and purchased a (refundable) non-Dell backlit keyboard on Amazon.
I know a backlit keyboard has 2 connections, one for data and one for the light. When I opened up my laptop the light connector had something plugged in (not sure what). I went ahead and disconnected it and plugged in my new non-dell backlit keyboard...here is what happened.
1- Key board lit up and worked.
2- Back lIght never shuts off, even when you shut down its always lit. (The Windows Mobility Center doesnt even have a keyboard light feature.)
3- Laptop will not restart unless I unplug and replug the laptop in again.
Any ideas whats going on ?
Lastly, Does Dell make a backlit keyboard that would be compatible?

A:Purchased Non-Dell Backlit Keyboard - having issues

This system model is not designed to support a backlit keyboard and hence there are no backlit on /off toggle function keys as seen on other models - see the specifications here - http://dell.to/2gryrMy
Does the backlit stay on when the system is powered off and the power adapter disconnected?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/2h6A06p - restart the system and check.
If the issue is not resolved, then I would suspect an issue with the keyboard installed.
In that case you would need to reinstall the original Dell OEM keyboard on the machine.

A:Solved: limited or no connectivity on just purchased ebay dell

Is this a fresh install of XP, or are you trying to use somebody else's unknown configuration/corruption/history? What service pack level?

Can you connect by ethernet?

What is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters? What, if any, warnings or errors are in Device Manager?

Can you detect your wireless network? If so, what exactly happens when you try to connect? And please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

My current state:
I ordered a laptop from DELL about 6 months ago that came with Windows 8.1 Pro on it. Since it was ordered from DELL I do not have access to my Windows 8.1 Pro Product Key. I recently downloaded the windows 10 upgrade tool from Microsoft's website and went through all of the steps. Since this was the first time I figured it would be best to upgrade to windows 10 keeping all of my apps and files. This upgrade was 100% successful. I am also assuming that my windows product key is not in Microsoft's database as a valid Windows 10 Pro key.

My future goal:
Now my goal is to do a 100% clean wipe and install of windows 10 on this PC. This is the process I want to follow but I am scared to attempt it without confirmation/help from others.

Even the recovery partitions that DELL sets up since I won't be needing them anymore. (NOTE: I will never go back to Windows 8.1).Install windows on the Unparitioned Space and let it do its thing. I am assuming it will install with the new partition types.HERE IS THE STEP I AM SCARED ABOUT: When installing I am assuming it will ask me to enter a product key which I do not have. I am hoping since Microsoft recently made the process easier that it will see that I have a Product Key injected into my motherboard by dell and automatically use it. Can anyone confirm thi... A:Clean install of Windows 10 on a laptop purchased from DELL

You can easily get your key with this Solved Showkey - Windows 10 Forums just to be safe before you start.

It should not ask you when you install (you are right it will get it from BIOS) but if it does you can either enter your 8.1 key, or press "Skip" or "I don't have a key" and it will activate automatically anyway as your hardware ID is already stored on MS servers.

I (and many people here) have upgraded and then clean installed and it works fine as long as you install the correct version (i.e. you install 10 Pro if you had 8.1 Pro and you don't try to install 10 Home).

A friend of mined needed a clean install for his Dell Dimension 2400. The restore
disc is very different as it wants to know what partition you want to put it on. There
was no other choices. So I believe that we destroyed the restore partition without
knowing it had one.

If I buy a Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OEM Version will it work to
solve this problem? TigerDirect sells a copy. I need the full disc and not an
upgrade. But will we have drivers problems. He does have other disc with
his Dell which one says its for drivers but in reality its just disc of Docs. And
one that does actually install the modem as he's still on dialup.

Can I wipe his hard-drive clean and install an OEM version of Home Edition
and will things work??? A little out of pocket money is easier then suffering
through trying to get it done.

Can anyone help me?????

Many years ago, when I purchased my Dell XP machine, Dell supplied me with a proper XP installation disk. When I purchased my Dell Inspiron in 2010 Dell refused to supply me with a proper WIn 7 installation disk even though I offered to pay a little extra for it. It was the recovery partition or nothing. As recommended, I did make a repair disk at the time. I assume it can't be used to make a repair reinstall but if it can I'd be grateful for any details.
Would my cynical view that this was all to do with Dell making an extra profit and nothing to do with them being helpful to their customers be correct?
Six years later this could well be becoming a serious problem to me. I'm having one or two incipient problems and it could well end up in having to do some sort of reinstallation of Win 7. As far as I can see I have a number choices.
1) Use the recovery partition, that is a factory reset. I now have 6 years worth of downloaded software plus numerous tweaks, some of which took me ages to find - try to get any audio-related program to work "out of the box" and see what happens. I would only do this in extremis.
2) Do a repair reinstall, the favourite option of many threads on Windows problems. Er, excuse me, Dell have made it impossible to do a repair reinstall.
3) Contact the MS site that supplies ISO images of Win 7. Oh dear! As an OEM, Dell would appear to be on the banned list. Microsoft refuse point blank to supply anything.
4) Ah, there's a site ... Read more

A friend of mine recently purchased a Dell Inspirion 537S. I personally set it up and installed all the additional software, and everything on it was running just dandy. However, a couple days after I set the system up, his Internet started acting screwy. He can only access a very small handful of websites (Google.com, PhiladelphiaEagles.com, state.nj.us, Marvel.com). But about 95% of other websites simply wont load including major sites like CNN.com, Microsoft.com, Dell.com and Firefox.

I get no error messages. The page keeps trying to load, and you can see the little IE icon doing it's thing, but the page just stays white. It's not an ISP issue. 3 Comcast technicians have looked into it and left scratching their heads. I've tried 2 different laptops, and both can access the internet using the wireless router just fine.

I've disabled the Windows Firewall and the Mcafee Firewall that came with the machine. I've set the IE security settings to the lowest possible settings, I've even used Dell's System Restore to bring the system back to it's factory settings (it formats the partition and everything). Still, the internet is a no go.

To add to the mystery, if I ping a site like www.disney.com I get a response, but the site wont load. I've tried everything short of installing a new browser (a last resort which I don't think will really work).

First of all I have a XPS 15 9550. I have two questions regarding some issues I have encountered:
1. I and at least one other person here have been receiving an Intel service crash when the system is booted. This crash was for the service "Intel Content Protection HDCP". This was after installing the latest Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers (v20.19.15.4454) posted on the Dell support site for my system. We eliminated the problem by disabling the service, but is not really a good solution. Since there is no further updates to the Intel HD drivers on Dell's site, I posted a question on the Intel Support site. They suggested that I download the latest drivers from Intel. The only problem is that they are numbered 15.xx.xx.xxxx. Is there a difference between what Intel has and what you post on your support site that would give me a problem if I were to install the Intel versions?
2. Another person posted here about the inability to get any information (such as S.M.A.R.T. data) from the NVMe PM951 Samsung SSD drive. I have tried various disk info software including Samsung's own SSD Wizard and they have not been able to access the S.M.A.R.T. data for the PM951. According to Samsung, the Wizard does not support OEM drives. Does Dell have a utility that will display this information for the SSD drive?

I have a Dell Inspirion 24 model 3455.  I have two issues that I need help with.  First issue is that I lose internet connection every morning when I first turn on the computer.  After I restart the internet comes right up OK.  I have noticed that there is usually an event id 1014 DNS server error that comes up.  Coming from an ASUS laptop that never had this issue.  Netgear router has been up and working in all cases.  This is more of an irritation and inconvenience than anything else but I would like to resolve it.
The other issue is I started getting an update failure that started on January 22 and has continued every day since.  The update states that it is for "Hp enterprise WSD multifunction printer, other hardware-null print-HP Envy 5540 series - error Ox8024200b"  This is the printer that I have (new), however the info screen says the update was released in Dec of 2014, so I don't think I need the update, but I can't find how to get rid of it or stop it from trying to update.
I appreciate any help and/or suggestions.
Thanks, James

Is there any way to get more information about just what the Dell Update app is doing? It had a recent update for a video driver, for example. It was for the built-in Intel video, which is not used. This computer has an nVidia card. There was no way to tell it to just ignore it, so I was more or less forced to let it download and install.
I'm worried if it came up with something that I didn't want to install. It seems like the only way to stop it would be to totally uninstall the program, which defeats the purpose.

Sort of a stupid question, but I'd rather ask and not need to ask later.

I'm reinstalling Windows this weekend (srly) and I'm grabbing drivers from Dell for my laptop. I've grabbed all of the Chipset ones, audio, ALPs, video, and network. I'd like to not install drivers I don't need (old computer, don't need stuff lugging it down). So I'm positive I don't want the Dell QuickSet one, but I don't know about a bunch of the others...

Do I need the BIOS download?
Do I need the Communications downloads?
Do I need the Diagnostics downloads?
Do I need the System Utilities download?

Also, when I switch the hard-disk out of the tray to my new hard-drive, do I have to worry about static? If so, best way to deal?

We both assume that the USB ports are USB 1, not USB 2.0, so he wants to install a USB 2.0 card and hub, along with some USB 2.0 peripherals. The specifications on the USB 2.0 card at Walmart, says to install it into a PCI 2.1 slot. I know what a PCI slot is, of course, but what is a PCI 2.1 slot? Does a Dell 8100 have PCI 2.1 slots or just plain PCI slots? Do I have to do any more than install a USB 2.0 card to make this 8100 USB 2.0 capable? Thanks in advance for all replies. Bill

Hi everyone, I was looking for some help to answer a few somewhat basic questions. I have read around looking before posting but I was just hoping to get some more direct answers. I have a Dell Inspirion 1525 laptop that the harddrive went dead in. I dont have too much on the computer and I know I should have backed it up I only really need the pictures on it, which isn't too many, maybe around 400? I would like some other things, but their really not necessary. Anyhow, can someone tell me the easiest way to do all this. I know I need to purchase a new harddrive (obviously haha) but that comes last i suppose. I know I can retrieve through blank cd's. I have some knowledge of computers but pretty basic and I started reading into that option (ubuntu) but it seemed somewhat hard and complicated...Is this true? I know I could take it somewhere, but since I dont have much money right now, and dont need that much from it, was hoping I could just do it myself. I know I can buy an external hard drive and use that, but since i already have to buy another hard drive, that would just be more money, although i guess for many its worth it... any ideas on the price? Are there any other options I have is my main question? I do have a desktop computer, but its really really old and I dont think there is any memory left on it. I have 2 other laptops in my household (not mine).
I called a computer repair place around me and the man said he could take the old hard drive out and they... Read more

I want to end up with XP Media Center on one partition,or one with one logical, partition, so I can do an installation of of Ubuntu on a 20 GB partition. I don't really need MediaDirect but I would like the volume controls on the front panel to work when running window if possible.
1. If I delete the eisa and restore partition will the MBR still be there so windows will boot up and dell direct still be there?

2. If I install ubuntu on a new partition and use the grub to dual boot, Will I then loose the Dell direct? if so is there any way to make the volume controls work?

3. Should I replace The Dell MBR (assuming the mediadirect won't work) with the XP MBR before I try the dual boot install. Can I do that by just running the xp Media center disk and repair MBR.

A:Solved: dell mbr partitions questions

some clarification

The reason I asked the first question is I'm just trying to avoid reinstalling all my prorgrams ,updates, documents, etc. I was hoping if I deleted the 2 dell partitions and the logical partition, I would end up with an xp partition that would still boot. Then I thought I could resize it with Gparted and then install ubuntu.

The Mediadirect a program to run media without booting windows but I think with out it the control bottons on the front of the computer (including volume, play, fast forward etc.) don't work.

The only difference in the mbr is the option to run the recovery partition which would be deleted anyway. That is why I asked if I should repair the mbr before insalling ubuntu.

I don't need media direct and I guess I can get along without the panel volume controls.

Hi all,
How are you supposed to use the Check Recovery Media option in Dell Backup and Recovery?
1. When you create the Factory Backup media..At the end of the process it shows that the backup has been verified so do you only use the Check Recovery Media option if you have a problem with the backup later on?
2. When you Check recovery Media do you have to tick the USB flash drive at the create factory recovery media screen first (like you do when creating the factory media where a green tick comes up) before clicking on Check Recovery Media or do you go into the Check recovery Media screen first before inserting the USB flash drive. I notice that in the Check Recovery Media window there is a check recovery media box at the bottom of the screen but it doesn't do anything..its always greyed out
3.Can there be a slight difference in the size of the Factory recovery Media backups. I did one a couple of weeks ago..it was 7.97gb. I did another one yesterday so I had another backup and it was 7.96gb and I used all the same settings..I didn't change anything at all.

Years ago I bought my first Dell, it was a Pentium II, the last one I bought was around 2000/2001. It was over $4000 & included the Dell ADA995 THX 5.1 speaker system which I use to this day without any problems.

15 or more years have passed since then, at that time Dell home desktops were built like tanks & lasted for years.

One concern I have in making a purchase of a 8900 top of the line, is all the problems being reported regarding BIOS issues & general hardware problems/reliability. Are they not what they used to be in these regards?
Also, the amount of complaints regarding customer service/tech support issues concerns me. Should I be?
Another thing that seems to be a problem is orders not being sent on time or being charged for a purchase then going through what appears to be huge hassle getting these issues resolved quickly. I'd like to hear from people that can recall Dell desktops back then & have continued to stay with them.

I'm interested in getting the Dell Vostro 5460. I see in the description that it has a Nvidia 630M 2GB post-RTS. What does post-RTS means? Does this model have an Intel HD graphics processor built in as well (hybrid), or only the 630M? Thanks!

A:Questions on Dell Vostro 5460

Will soon be getting a new Dell PC with Windows 10. I have a computer tech guru who will be helping me set it up. This a replacement for a Windows 7 desktop. Some questions:

1.) I want to install Firefox right away because that is the browser most familiar to me and my family. I have a Patriot Flash Drive. When I transfer my back up files to the new PC, will my Bookmarks and toolbar shortcuts carry over in Firefox?

2.) After I install Firefox, will my Bookmarks and shortcuts also be found in IE 11? What about Edge?

3.) My Dell PC comes with a 12-Month Trial of McAfee AV, which I don't want. Is that a big deal to remove? I have been happy with Windows Defender on Windows 8.1 for my laptop and Windows 7 Microsoft Security Essentials for both programs non-intrusiveness. I am very cautious and do not go to unknown websites or open unknown files.

4.) My tech guru gets deals on MS Office through his company, and can set me up at least with Office 2013 or maybe the new Office 2016. I would be happy with Libre Office and am just a home user doing general task letter-writing and note taking. I have Office 2010 on my Windows 8 laptop and am not a fan of the ribbon. If I go with Libre Office, what functionality would I be losing by not upgrading to a modern version of MS Office?

5.) Lastly, what about Windows 10 new search system, Cortana? Good or gimmicky?

Thanks for any input in advance!

Ok... i bought this XPS from a "back-door" special from a manager at circuit city....... it had a Bios password... i finally got that unlocked but it seems that there was some sort of restriction programming installed so it could be used as a demo model at the store.

i spent over 3 hours on the phone with dell today to see what i could do to get rid of the restiction. since i didn't buy it through the actual store ( i paid the manager 100 bucks for it because the store was closing ) Dell isn't willing to help. Though they did suggest reformating the hard drive by installing a new OEM.

Now this is my question.... Would re-installing the operating system fix this problem??

I've been told by different sources different things. some say that re installing without totally deleteing everything off my existing hard drive would still leave that program installed and it would control the new OEM. Others said that the new OEM would override all the previous data.

This leads me to another question..... Should i risk re-installing the new OEM without certainty that the old program/software would be over ridden??? and if i would have to ferform a hard drive wipe... How would i wipe my hard drive clean??

Lastly the XPS system has an Intel Centrino dual core processor.... and is currently being run with Windows Vista Ultimate ..... if i were to install a new OEM i would have to use Windows XP home and i'm not... Read more

No Xp support at Dell for your model: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...ystemID=XPS_M1330&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

You may need to search around first to see if you can locate all the drivers (although Vista is preferred)

Regarding getting rid of restrictions

Yes just format and install Windows (Vista ideally)
Then all will be ok

Hello, I am a musician, and an amateur "sound engineer".I will be playing in a musical and it's my responsibility to map/organize all sound and mixes. As I was talking to the musical's director, I gave him the idea of recording the musical from the mixer.
"Three" thoughts came to my mind:
1- Use my Behringer UCG102 to record the sound coming from the mixer.2- Record the sound of the mixer directly to my Dell Inspirion I14 5458 A401 & 2- Use my PC and another, recording one channel on my Dell, and the Behringer on the another.
I was wandering if the line in jack (with the line in choice) of Dell Inspirion I14 5458 A40 could handle the signal of a mixer. Could it handle or should I stick with thought 1?Will the signal from the mixer (it has AUX SEND, Group Out, Monitor Out, Phone Out and 2 Stereo Line Out) be distorted/ruined, damage my sound card or be well recorded?I pretend - if it doesn't destroy my PC or ruin the sound itself - to use the audio coming out from the Stereo Out TRS P10 output using a TRS P10 P2 cable.
Disclaimer: The mixer is a Yamaha MG206C. It DOES NOT HAVE a USB output to use on a recording program (even though there is model which has one).Behringer UCG102 captures only the left channel (input), as it also only plays the left channel (output). Also, pardon my interface, as I do not have the budget to buy another or exchange.

I am considering purchasing a Dell Inspiron 3668, but I have a few questions about the power supply first.

1:  What are the dimensions of the stock power supply?

2: Can it be easily removed?

3: Will something like one of these be a good fit?
Corsair RM 850x
I am guessing that my current Corsair HX 750 will not fit.

Any help would be appreciated before purchasing!

A:Dell Inspiron 3668 PSU Questions

You need to look for a system in a larger chassis - just about nothing will fit inside these other than the OEM power supply.

1. Why would D520 not have an eeprom chip while other D600 or later would?
2. What are the options to unlock a D520 if when boot you get the gray screen?
I read that you can disconnect the battery for a couple seconds.
Then reconnect it and this will change the boot order to usb first.
then use the usb to load up xp. Is this true?

A:Dell D520 options & questions

I assume you mean 'older' by 'later'.
Not sure about the strategy on how dell does secure their laptops but it is definitely that removing the cmos battery will solve the password screen problem and neither it will enable you to boot up from usb. the only options at the moment are to contact dell, tell them the service tag (make sure you are the legal owner or have the ownership transfered to you) and let them give you a master password to unlock the laptop - or go here:
and wait for a master password (you may receive paid offers only).
well you can also have a look at some unlocking websites and ebay. there are a couple of guys who sell passwords....

good luck!

A:Questions about Dell Inspiron 15-3567

1.  Inspiron 3567
2.  You'll need to check;  it's a new model so parts are likely only available for Dell (at least for a while).
3.  See #2 and here
4.  yes.
5.  It should not, no.
6.  It's a cheap budget notebook - maybe 2-2.5 hours with maximum power management enabled.
7.  No, but the parts/installation won't be covered by warranty unless purchased from Dell.
Be sure you know what this is - it's a cheap, throwaway budget notebook - it's neither built for performance, battery life -- or for the long haul.  It's built to be a cheap, home use, throwaway after warranty system.
If that's not what you're looking for, buy a higher line model -- you won't be happy with the design compromises needed to keep the price as low as it is for this model.  You're not going to find a high performance battery, metal hinges, etc. in a system at this price level.

I am getting ready to look at a dell laptop later today and I have a few questions.
Im sorry that I cant give some of the specifics until later today but I wanted to get this post started as I dont generally work with OEM systems.

This is a Dell laptop with XP media Center edition on it.
I know offhand that it has a Intel proc. if that helps
More on that later:

At boot it goes straight to a command screen that says
"windows can not start hal.dll needs to be installed"
No Safe mode
No command prompt
No last know good configuration

The situation started during a system cleanup and defrag as I was told but as usual there is no way to be certain.

I did manage to get to the system partition and ran its tests and all initial tests passed.
I went in a little deeper and the S.M.A.R.T. short test failed.
Im not certain if it is turned on in th bios until later, to determine if that is the cause.

She had not provided the AC cord and I could not continue until I get it later today along with the disks.

Personally I would rather do a repair install than a complete reinstall if possible
but I have been told that data loss is not a problem if needed.

I am also not sure of any service packs either installed or on the disks just yet so SFC may still be an option.

My questions are:
In the system partition I didnt see any option to do a system recovery.
She has disks that came with the computer but would there still be a recovery option on the s... Read more
