Q: System Password - BIOS - Lenovo Ideapad 310-15

Hi,I have the problem with the system password BIOS in my Lenovo Ideapad 310-15.I set the password and everything was good, password was giving the acess to the BIOS, but some day when I was trying to logIn to the BIOS settings something happened and now I cannot log in to the BIOS settings.Maybe I forgot the password but everything looked good until now. What can I do ? The notebook was bought at this year and it has actual support but I think this issue is out of the warranty.Any idea how I can reset the password by software, if this is possible, or what will be the best solution in my sytuation?Maybe is there any way to reinstall BIOS what give the default access?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I set the BIOS password. But I forgot the password after a while. I searched the Internet a little and tried a couple of methods. It's like removing a bios battery. I removed the bios battery and the password was not reset. But the computer clock was wrong. So the bios battery only reseting the clock. I corrected the clock, but I still can not reset the bios password. Are the bios passwords held in EEPROM? If so, where is the EEPROM chip?Thank you for your help. ////// BIOS'a ?ifre koydum. Hi- I have been slowly struggling with a password issue with my Ideapad U530 over the last few months.  The problem is, when I try to acces the BIOS via the Novo button, I am asked for a "system password". However, I did NOT set this password, so I cannot access the BIOS. In terms of other passwords, such as Windows User/Admin, and boot, there is no problem. The only unique thing that I have done with this machine which I could think of the <might> be related to the BIOS password issue, is that I used the Novo button to access the built-in restore tool (I forget what Lenovo calls it exaclty, but it is a system restore application), and I told the machine to re-image itself back to the built-in, out-of-box image. This process worked fine, though, and logic would tell me that this c/would <not> affect the BIOS. Has anyone else run into this issue? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for reading and/or replying. -Chris p.s. - USB booting appears to be disabled. Actually, that was why I first tried to access the BIOS ...to enable USB booting. So, my ability to troubleshoot may be heavily limited by my inability to boot to the internal hybrid HD. p.p.s - the machine is under warranty until September of this year. I've spoken twice with Lenovo support, who were unable to help me. They mentioned the possibility of removing the SMOC battery, though I believe that this will not work since it is the year 2015. They also refe... Read more

A:unknown "system password" (aka BIOS password) on Ideapad U530

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problems.  With a laptop, removing the battery will not clear a BIOS related password.  That only works with desktop models.  Unfortunately forum rules prohibit further discussion on how to circumvent the BIOS password.  This is due to the ease in which laptops can be stolen.  I would suggest contacting Best Buy again and see if they can further assist you especially if the laptop you purchase had been a floor display.  Otherwise the only remedy to the password problem would be to replace the motherboard.

So, I rebooted my laptop (to get viruses off of it) and it is now stuck on the bios password. I've looked stuff up on google, and I have given up. I am turning to the lenovo support pages to guide me. Help? All it says is system password on the screen and underneath it is OK and CANCEL. If I press CANCEL, it says Invalid password. If I press OK it says Invalid password. What should I do? It won't exit it either.

Hello my friends ! A time ago i bouhgt two Lenovo ideapad 100 14 IBY (FreeDos Version) and install Windows 10 on it with UEFI and GPT Partition Table. All works fine until i want to play around with Linux and install UBUNTU Mate in UEFI on one of them. The install was easy but the Performance on Ubuntu with Bay Trail and the don't working Bluetooth was a reason to switch back to Windows 10. After that the Problem beginns. The Bios don't let me save changes anymore (only time and date !). There was no UEFI ESP and GPT Support since i install UBUNTU and the Bios Menu looks like that:Bios Entries on a blank DiskBootingThe Disk is Blank there is no ubuntu on there (Don't know waht the EFI Entries are no Hardware is connected). And when I boot also go to Network Boot there.(No Matter a USB Stick is connected). So what i did: # I Dismantle it and disconnect Battery and Cell and wait half an hour. # Nothing changes !# I change the HDD. # Nothing changes !# Reflash the BIOS by edit the plattform.ini - CheckByBios=1 - Error Cannot mount EFI Partition. # Nothing changes !# Install Windows 10 - Make mbr2gpt.exe and bcdedit and bootrec. # Nothing changes ! I can install and run Windows 10 in MBR and BIOS Mode on it. But no USB Stick was displayed in Boot Menu. So now Iam on my Limit and the Question is there a way to put UEFI and GPT back on it or does the BIOS locked in this State. For me UEFI is MALEWARE so why can a simple UBUNTU damaged my BIOS and ... HI, Please skip to paragraph six for the actual issue I am having--the preceding paragraphs include info that may help to identify how to fix this. I am posting this using my HP desktop running Windows 7 as my Lenovo Ideapad 110 cannot connect to internet as explained below: Firstly, Sorry if I am breaking community guidelines in any way with this post. I did multiple searches but only came up with "forgot my BIOS password-how can I reset it" type posts. I am looking for urgent help to get back into the "BIOS" of my Lenovo IdeaPad 110 running preinstalled Windows 10. Everything was running fine until yesterday. This is when I made the mistake of thinking I knew more about the system than I actually seem to lol :/ So, yesterday--I entered the "BIOS" screen upon startup using F2 (function key+F2). I went on to disable wireless connection ability (to test something unrelated), and also switched Boot from strait UEFI boot mode to legacy/UEFI boot-with UEFI being the default boot option.  I don't know if any of the above have to do with the issue I am now having but I wanted to share it just in case. Here is the real issue as of now: Also yesterday at the same time while in "BIOS", I also went on to set an "admin password", the one you must type in before you can even get to the lenovo splash screen to enter "BIOS". Basically I believe this is referred to as a POST password although I am not an expert cleary (hence asking for the experts' he... Read more

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost 255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

A:Lenovo ideapad U41-70 BIOS LOCKED

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problem you have encountered.  If the password had previously work then make sure you are typing it in correctly.  Passwords are case sensitive and you may have used UPPER and lower case letters in your password creation.  Double check your Caps Lock key as well to see that it is set correctly.

You can also try a static discharge just to insure the issue isn't a keyboard problem.  To do a static discharge, just do this...
1. Shut down Windows and unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. (If removable)3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that doesn't resolve the issue then there isn't much else you can do.  Since laptops are frequently stolen, there is no master password, hardware jumper or back door that can be used to clear a BIOS passworded laptop.  This is by design and the solution is to replace the motherboard of the system.

This will be considered as accidental damage and will not be covered by warranty. You can get in touch with Lenovo by clicking on the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page under Support. I have an Ideapad 500-15ISK (80NT00ADUK). In the BIOS I have defined an Administrator password ("XXX"), and a User password ("YYY"). I have also enabled the Power-On password, but NOT the Hard-Disk password. Starting with the computer off, when I press the Power button to switch it on, I receive TWO prompts to enter the BIOS password. I can enter XXX for both, or YYY for both, or XXX for one and YYY for the other. After the second password prompt, Windows 10 boots and displays the Windows logon panel. I think that I should be receiving only ONE password prompt for the BIOS password. The Ideapad 500 was shipped with BIOS version CFCN21WW. I noticed that there was a more recent version on the Lenovo website (CFCN23WW), so I downloaded that and installed it, but it does not fix this problem. As it happens, I also have an Ideapad 700-15ISK (80RU00CPUK). Although the hardware is different, the BIOS settings are almost identical, and I have set it up to be the same as the Ideapad 500. The Ideapad 700 displays ONLY ONE password prompt for the BIOS password. This is how I think that the Ideapad 500 should work.Other settings that I use:-- Secure boot disabled-- Legacy boot enabled-- Boot legacy first Is there a setting that I need to alter to eliminate the duplicated password prompt, or is this a bug in the BIOS software? Thank you. -- from CyberSimian in the UK

Hi coucoune1633 ,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

To enter the BIOS , turn off the pc and use the Novo key (item1 page12) to power on .
Novo menu would appear offering BIOS set up (for changing boot options etc. )
System recovery option from one key recovery initial back up would delete everything and restore to factory defaults.

About booting to safe mode:
Since starting with Windows 8 and up , usual F8 on boot is deeply embedded on the recovery making it hard to access.

If Windows cannot boot to a viable stage for to access advance recovery menu :

1. Shift + F8 works on some system , do it at same time you see the lenovo splash screen repeatedly.

2. Forcing recovery mode on windows 8 : turn on then suddenly turn off pressing the power button , then on and off again for 2-3 attempts , Turn on and see if recovery screen would show up for the advance option.

3. Some system have F11 / F12 on BIOS to launch the recovery / boot option

4. Using a bootable media ( USB rescue image often useful for repair / back up  , using Windows media creation tool  )
If Windows 8/10 does not start: (using the command line)
How to boot into Safe Mode from the Windows 8/10 installation media or recovery USB flash drive.
