I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I created my homepages http://members.aol.com/magimoment several years ago with Sierra web page designer and it has been running fine all this time. In a recent update of the pages, they now have a HOMETOWN banner on top of each of the three pages.
I have been trying by every means I know how including having received (no help) from seven AOL techs including a frustrating phone call to AOL Help ( tech responded by saying " this is not in my area of expertise"
Question: Has AOL members now been placed into AOL Hometown? I am NOT a member of hometown, I am not in one of their commuinities: hence, hometown does not know me and because of that I can't get the bloody thing off my pages by any delete method that I have tried. I did mention to AOL that since they put this thing on top of my pages that they should remove it. ( no help so far ) Question: anyone else having this problem and HOW do I GET RID of these banners?
Thanks
Bob

I don't think you can unless you move the site away from AOhell

everybody using AOhell appears to have the hometown banner on their site

Every once in a while Microsoft Security Essentials is encountering 'Backdoor:Win32/RDPopen.b, and even after clicking remove all, it re-appears after 10 minutes to Half an hour and every time I boot up the system. It isn't really affecting my computer much either, which is probably because it is new. Also, a few days ago I encountered a trojan virus called trojan.gen.2, which has dissapeared and no AV application picks it up, but I'm guessing it still is there somewhere.

Also the MSE full scan didn't bring up anything, so I'm unsure if it is still there.

I am also unsure how to get the logs for the Security Essentials scan to show.

Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following: The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.

i'm using a wireless dell 1180 adapter, just reinstalled w98, computer: dell dim xps 500.
the adapter worked fine before i reinstalled w98. it seems to operate, tested it w included utility, but the IP address is listed as 0.0.0.0 . it is supposed to detect automatically (and it did berore the reinstall).

what is different now, how do i fix it or at least add the IP manually, assuming it would be the same as the other computer that is also equipped w the same type of adapter......

TIA, sabine

Hey there,

Since bringing Active directory to life here, we've now got DNS running in-house here.

One issue I've come across is with our exchange server, which has one NIC on a x.x.A.x subnet (The one our users are on) and another one a x.x.B.x subnet.

Everything was going fine for a while, and doind an nslookup would show both addresses.

But now I'm setting up a new laptop, on the x.x.A.x subnet, and it can't connect to the exchange server.
I did an nslookup and was only given the x.x.B.x address.

Is there a way of going into AD's DNS and manually entering in a record for the x.x.A.x address? Or some other way of recitfying this?

Thanks.

I thought that this may be of interest to our European Members. Or any one of us who may visit European Sites.Web site visitors who clicked on banner ads on a number of popular European Web sites this weekend could have infected their computers with variants of the Bofra worm, experts warned on Monday. The attacks take advantage of an unpatched buffer overflow flaw in the way Internet Explorer 6 (IE) handles the IFrame tag, and has been confirmed on PCs running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 and Windows 2000, according to a warning posted Sunday on the SANS Institute Web site. Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is not vulnerable, it said. The vulnerability allows attackers to gain complete control of a user's computer. Also on Sunday, U.K. technology news Web site The Register reported that its third party ad serving company Falk AG became infected with the Bofra/IFrame exploit, forcing the Web site to suspend its ads from Falk. "If you may have visited the Register between 6 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. GMT on Saturday, Nov. 20 using any Windows platform bar XP SP2 we strongly advise you to check your machine with up to date anti-virus software, to install SP2 if you are running Windows XP, and to strongly consider running an alternative browser, at least until Microsoft deals with the issue," The Register said on its Web site. Hello.

I'm trying to get my phone to work with my bluetooth. There is no problem getting the laptop to find the phone, but then I get a screen with a code on it (see below attachments).

My question is, how do I manually enter the code? I know what it is for the phone, but I can't seem to figure out how to get vista to allow me to enter it. Selecting any of the option on the screen cap I included below fail, and none of them allow me to manually enter a code.

I'm using IE 11 Modern on Win 8.1 RT, but the same has been true since tab navigation was introduced.
I've always been bothered by the behaviour of the Frequent sites (about:Tabs), it could be ignored before, but now with Metro interface you have to deal with it everytime you open a new tab.

Is there any way to manually manage what's in there? Add, remove, order, edit etc.

If not, is there a way to have it not populate by itself, but still having the normal broswer history? The idea is to manually empty it and never had any site get back into it.

If not, is there a way to have Frequent sites NOT show up on the bottom of Modern interface when opening a new tab? (on desktop interface, you can just have the new tab open in blank or whatever starting page, the setting does carry over in Modern, but you still get the Frequent sites on the bottom of the screen)
The ideal solution would be having the pinned and the favourites show instead, sort of what IE 10 used to do IIRC.

Thanks.

My computer is suddenly not showing some web pages correctly. This site (techguy) is in black, red and blue text on a bright white background. When I tried to view my granddaughter's myspace page, I couldn't see any of her pics. I only saw outlined squares with the text below them. Other sites (I first asked about this at the Mozilla forum) it looked as it should. I now think it has nothing to do with my Firefox browser as I have the same problem with IE. At first I thought I might have accidentally changed a setting in Firefox Options, but I have compared my Firefox settings to my husband's and they are all the same.
Any ideas as to what has changed?

Thanks
Peg

Is there a place where I can check my settings? I seem to be viewing this site in text instead of HTML. It is only on this 1 computer though. I have 2 others in the house and they both see the normal HTML format. Very confusing.

Hi there,

I have noticed over the last few days that on different websites that I keep getting the background for the barcleys website as an outside border. I have also noticed that the fonts keep changing size on these pages and that the toolbars no longer fit their borders. I'm using Firefox right now as IE7 won't let me log onto a site that requires a username and a password just like this forum. I use Vista Ultimate SP1.

This is what happens. I enter the correct u/n and p/w and I appear to enter the site because I get the "welcome" message , but then I am immediately kicked back to the login page. this occurred before I changed to IE7 and actually was the reason I changed.

Firefox and Google chrome both allow me to do the above. I looked through this site and tried the few things I thought might work including the iedll.bat download. Initpki.dll was the only reg entry that failed on that fix.

I've set the security and privacy settings to their weakest with no change. i've deleted all cookies, passwords, cleared the ssl slate, temp files etc.

Surprisingly I am able to access a VPN site with a user name and password and also my stock trading and banking site which probably use much higher security terms or encryption.

I really like IE7 as it is faster and has more options and would love to use it but I belong to lots of forums that all use basically the same signup and login pages and am currently not able to log onto any of those.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I am new to this forum. I am having a major issues with my pc. First its all started when the malware paytime.exe attacked my pc. It turned off my firewall(SP2 Firewall), real-time virus scanner(Trend microoffice client, not using its firewall, provided by my service provider). With the help of hijackthis, spybot and ewido and also the interent , able to delete paytime.exe and its related files.
To this I entered in safe mode.

Now I am able to control my firewall. Thats the only success BUT when I click nvmixer.exe in my taskbar, it shows visual C++ runtime error and my virus scanner is saying that officescan client has not started. So in control panel I entered in administrative tools and tried manually to start real time scan process but I failed again. It shows cannot start this process in safe mode. The same thing is repeated for other processes like error reporting etc. I am booting in normal mode only but its showing cant run in safe mode.

For runtime error I tried to download visual runtime files from support.microsoft, I failed to do so. My browser doesnt open sites of microsoft. When I typed support.microsoft.com, Page cannot display error is coming. I even disabled my firewall still it doesnt works.

Could you tell me how to make my process start again? And is there any program that will tell me about missing dlls if any(presently there are no dialogs of missing dlls). And about my browser security settings?

Sometimes when viruses are cleaned out the process damages system files etc too. I'd suggest starting with a sfc and then if no go run a 'repair' (this installs os over itself and retains data but you'll have to re-do updates).

Hi

My computer has recently been hit (last 24 hours) with something which is disabling all of my microsoft sites/programs and access to antivirus sites .

Going back 24 hours i had another virus which made my computer really slow redirected sites and posted 3 porn links on my desktop. After this i did a non destructive system recovery (after which i got an ntdlr is compressed message but i fixed it). As soon as i had got the computer running back to normal i installed sp2 as my computer originally came with sp1 and windows 2003 xp home edition.

when i got back on the internet i found my problem and i couldnt sign into msn messenger or access antivirus sites. I have tried these programs :Ad-Aware spybot search , vundo fix , super anti spyware and malware bytes anti spyware.

i have also booted my pc into safe mode and used sdfix. And i have used atf cleaner and cc cleaner to delete cookies and temp files and i have cleared my cache.

Another note i have tried to run Combofix from the desktop but it just says its been compromised and i need to download a new copy and then deletes its self (i have downloaded new copies)

Hi All,

I am afraid that I am in need of your help again, recently I have noticed that I am seeing adults only adverts appearing on normally innocuous websites.

I think that these may be originating from my own machine, for example I have a link on my own website front page at www.euadvantage.com which links to the world of warcraft site here

I have attached an image of what I see, now I know that they do not normally have adverts of that nature on that site so, with this in mind I have included my hjt log, I should say that I have run spybot s&d and this said there were no problems found.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated I do seem to have a lot of references to my hosts file perhaps this could be the problem

I have contacted aol and they gave me many many things to try. I have tried them all but still can't get in to any. I can't even get in to aol on line tech support. AOL says it isn't an aol problem. I do get this error message that says..

The memory could not be read.
I have uninstalled AOL and reinstalled a new AOL CD with all applications off, including Panda Virus. I still have the same problems. I have disabled firewalls, changed web settings, have done everything I have been told to do. I have Windows XP. Can you help me?

Then when I do it throws me back out to my desktop. I have access to other sites on Yahoo with the same codes. I can also play bridge at Bridge Base Online but it is too advanced for the person I am trying to help. Do I have a security barrier that I am unaware of. Thank you for any help or theories.

I can't call up any sites with Internet Explorer. I don't know whether this is a blessing or a curse. I have tried all of the pinned suggestions. I have a linksys router which I've bypassed and I've turned off my ZoneAlarm Internet Security; heck, I've even uninstalled it. Reiinstalled when discovered that that wasn't the problem. My uber-geek bud, 'SoundBlister,' wonders what is my problem. My Firefox, Opera, and K-meleon work fine. Automatic Updates works fine. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the OS, XP Professional SP2, and still obtain the same results. I have tried it without selected programs installed. I have had the hardware and software environment checked by an ex-employee of Microsoft. He couldn't find anything wrong, except IE can't raise any sites. I live in Huntsville, AL and in a rural setting without any profound radiation sources. None of my neighbors have this problem. I figured that I must be doing something during setup or configuration (like turning off the wrong service), so I got a friend to install XP the last time. Nope. I forgot about the problem for a few months because it doesn't really bother me. I can download from the Microsoft sites with Firefox; Microsoft provides a plugin for that. It is the mystery that bothers me. Any theories welcome. I don't have this problem on my other Windows computer, just my main one. I don't use IE on my Mac.Any information needed beyond what I given?

I had been having problems such as redirecting google links to happili.com and nginx 404, which were cleared up by a thread I created earlier. Ran Malwarebytes to death, TDSSkiller, and aswMBR, as well as ESET online scanner and mini toolbox. There are still a couple problems that remain though.

1) Images refusing to show on specific sites. When I right-click and view the images, it leads to a nginx 403 forbidden site. This seems to specifically affect the sites mangafox.com and mangareader.com, where some images show and some don't. The ones that don't are tabs that I have had open while I started getting viruses and whatnot.

2) Getting logged out of websites where I checked the "stay logged on/save session" option. Yahoo, this site, I have to re-log into a site every time I close out of the browser.

Both these problems affect Firefox and Chrome. Help is much appreciated.

Good morning. Have been having lots - and I mean lots - of problems with computer booting up and shutting down. Have had to shut down from tower more times than I like to think about. My computer is a Penium III and I am using Windows 98. I read in one of the threads here about the restricted and trusted sites listed in the "tools internet options". When I went there and looked at the restricted sites listed I was amazed. There are things there that I have no idea what they are or where they come from. I did find "coolwwwsearch" listed there several times (and I have been trying to find this forever!) My question is: Do I have to have any of these things listed there? and Is there someway to keep them from coming back if they are deleted? I made a list of some of the things listed there but there are many many more: *Blazefind.com, Kliksearch.com, *zoofil.com; *cameup.com; www. gohip.com, *search.rub.to, *duolaime.net, revolto3.da.ru - and the list goes on an on. I also found numerous sites which appeared to be porn sites and I have already deleted those (at least I hope I got them deleted). Any ideas? Will be leaving for work shortly but will be back after 6:00 p.m (EST) and will check back for any ideas or help. Thanks so much for all your valuable anticipated help.

So, Secunia has just told me that the versions of Microsoft Outlook 2002, Word 2002, and Excel 2002 I have on my computer (Windows XP Home SP3) are unsecure and need to be updated. Secunia provides direct download links to Microsoft for these updates, but there are some hassles (I know! Hassles? With Microsoft?!).First, it opens IE -- it apparently won't work with Firefox. Second, all the update links lead to a page that signs me up for a Microsoft Update service that gives Microsoft even greater access to my PC.Unless it's absolutely necessary, I just have no desire to provide more access to my computer to a bunch of strangers.Does anyone know if there's a way to update these programs without signing up for a service? Even today, not all computers are hooked up to the internet -- I figure there must be a way to just get the updated files. Thanks!Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Hi all,

I have this problem which is very annoying. I cannot enter a secure site (my bank account, paying bills etc.)with my passwords using IE 7. I checked my security options in Internet Options and made sure my SSL and TSL were checked. Tried it again with no success.

Then I un-installed IE 7 using the '%windir%\Ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe' command line. I then re-installed IE7 from the Micro$oft website hoping to get a clean installation of IE 7. Finally, I ran all the updates and I still had the same problem.

At this point I'm thinking it could be a virus because I can access secured sites in FireFox (my bank account etc.)without any problems whatsoever. So I ran a complete scan using AVG. No success.

The reason I have to use IE 7 is because I am taking a tech course and the use of IE 7 is required to hand in my assignments. I can't do this using FireFox. My school suggested loading IE8 Beta LMAO.

I hope I don't have to do a clean install of XP Pro.

So, any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

I haven't found a way to do this in Edge, but I did find a work around. I don't know why they've made things so hard! What I did is open Internet Explorer (you may have to search for it, but it's still on Windows 10), navigate to the address you want to favorite, add the site to your favorites in IE, go into the IE favorites and right-click on the one you want to change the URL for, choose properties, then edit the URL and save or apply. Next you'll just import the favorites again in Edge and it should pop up. Hope this helps!
