Preferred Solution: The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My windows 7 freezes and stops responding every now and then.I have checked the events and found the following message occurs at the time it happens:

I have re partitioned and re installed the OS with minimum softwares and latest drivers.

I have scanned the system with Avast AV at boot time.

I did some google and updated registry values for LPMSTATE,LPMDSTATE and LPM.
I have also changed the Advance power setting for PCI as off.

"the device, \device\ide\ideport0, did not respond within the timeout period"

This is Event ID 9, Source Atapi.

Micro$oft has an article in its' knowledge base regarding this which point to outdated hardware or firmware. Is the hard drive going bad on this machine? Please advise.

It could be. This error sometimes appears when a drive or controller is having problems.

Lately ive been having some serious issues with my comp every program would hang up for 10 seconds then start up again, this would occur every 30 seconds or so. So I ended up reinstalling my win2k on my comp hoping this might fix any software problems that might be causing this. To my dismay the problem still persists, after checking event log ive found constant patterns of

Warning:An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 during a paging operation.
Error:The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.
Warning:An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 during a paging operation.
Error:The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.

over and over again. If anyone can tell me what the possible problems may be that would help me alot. And also any kinda program to narrow down the possible problems would also be alot of help.

Dear all,

since several weeks my PC hangs while booting or rebooting every now and then.

After every single slow boot i get the following error log in the event viewer.

The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period.

First I thought its a issue connected to the Link State Power Mgmt and found several advices on how to fix it via regedit.

However the problem continues. I also noticed that sometimes my keyboard and mouse (both USB) just stop reacting. Furthermore I realized that when the PC hangs during Bootup the light on my keyboard doesn't show up. So during the last hiccup I disconnected my keyboard and reconnected it and the PC boot into windows.

During my Windows boot (when the logo appears) I always hear a clicking sound, the lights on mouse and keyboard turn off and turn on again and the boot goes on. I can't remember if this always happened or if this is started together with the slow boots.

I downloaded the latest tools from Asus (my motherboard producer), I ran a full scan with kaspersky...

Maybe pure coincidence...but my motherboard has no new drivers etc since about two years (its a p8z77v-pro) but just two days after my first  \Device\Ide\iaStor0 error that I can still trace in my event logger they published this file:

I have been getting the following error message on a Windows 2000 Server with a Promise Fasttrak controller basically ever since I owned it (1.5 years): The device, \Device\Scsi\Fasttrak1, did not respond within the timeout period. I h ave had system hangs since the beginning, but the time between hangs has ranged between months to days, but eventually it works into a pattern of days. We have IDE drives and Fasttrak1 is pointing to our 30 GB OS pair.

This error intermittently causes the server to hang until it becomes a daily problem. My IT consultants have been stumped, have been on numerous calls with Promise, who continue to say we have bad drives. All four drives have been scanned and show no errors. We replaced the cables and this bought a couple of months of no crashes, but is started all over. All drivers have been updated.

We finally talked Promise into replacing the controller, and this didn't work. Shortly thereafter, however, the controller finally told us that a drive was bad. We replaced that drive, and now it is crashing again, but the controller will not tell us a specific drive is bad. We have three other drives that have not been replaced.

The last crash gave a blue screen that stated the boot drive was not available. It rebooted fine. Sometimes, rebooting takes four or five times before you can get past an error stating "missing or corrupt file" or being hung at the windows start-up bar.

A friend was using my 12 GB I/O Magic flash drive (USB 2.0) on a MAC (Powerbook G4, OS X) to transfer some In Design files when it froze. Had to reboot, and OS X no longer recognized the USB drive. Mounted it in my HP dv1000 laptop running Windows XP (ver 1.5, SP2) and got the following Windows error message: The specified I/O device\Device\Hardisk 1\DR 3 was not completed before the timeout period expired. I got the same basic message with a Dell running XP, SP2, but the Device was identified as Hardisk 0. Device manager shows no problems with any USB device or root hub on either Windows PC, and I've tried deleting all of them to force new driver installs, but with no luck. The drive still does not show up in My Computer, or Explorer, but on occasion, when I hover over the USB icon in the task bar, it will identify it as the 'I Drive' which is the normal ID in Windows on the HP laptop, but no other recognition this device is mounted. When this happens, and I stop the port and unplug, it still is unrecognized. Any way to get either the MAC or Windows based PCs to mount this drive so the In Design file can be recovered, or if all else fails, to just format to allow USB drive reuse? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I even tried resetting my whole router but that also only worked for about short amount of time.

Can you ping router when this happens?

Try: netsh winsock reset

How are you checking DNS when it fails?
When it happens try in cmd: nslookup

if it fails, enter server 8.8.8.8

Hello all,
When I have a USB device, even a flash drive, plugged into one of the front ports *before* I start Windows, the keyboard becomes unresponsive while on the login screen. It stays that way for at least a minute, after which time it responds.

Does anyone else have a similar issue?
Ideas?

A:USB device causes keyboard to not respond

Either the drive or the particular usb keyboard you have is a current level grabber in that it pulls down the usb bus! I have a gaming model illuminated keyboard that has to go into a port directly for that reason and use a usb hub with a separalte ac adapter for things like flash drives to have the adequate current available.

This had been a problem with the last build and so far hasn't been checked on the new one while the same hub is also convenient as well! But the keyboard pulls too much to even use a PS/2 adapter and not light up at all. I'm stuck plugging in a second roll away type keyboard just to press F12 at post to bring the boot device menu up as well.

I've plugged different flash drives(have several, different brands) directly into the ports on the old build and they all refused to boot from when turned into a live usb stick for some reason due to this. CyberPower makes some small 4 port hubs with a blue led and amber when a device/drive is plugged in that have been found quite reliable on the other hand for solving this type of problem. Cyberpower Systems USA, Inc. 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub CPH420P

Those are commonly seen in Walmarts at times or were, Radio Shack, and found for less online. But for a small hub they last! Keep the keyboard plugged in direct while plugging various brand flash drives into one of these. That so far has worked out well here with different sized as well as different brands.

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

Hi,

We have various different bugchecks:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)

This indicates that a kernel-mode driver attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high.

A driver tried to access an address that is pageable (or that is completely invalid) while the IRQL was too high. This bug check is usually caused by drivers that have used improper addresses.

This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.

Hi, I use Windows XP Pro and I am getting this error message in the system event log everytime I log in. Now I only get one, but just recently there are like 3 or 4 in a row many times during the initial log in to the internet network.

I have tried to search everywhere and google and yahoo for an answer but never was able to get a clear solution.

Luckily, I am able to get online just fine but the idea of this showing up constantly bothers me. It was fine, for about 4 months it stopped showing up after I did no changes to my system but its now back.

Also for a while I was getting something about user cancelled something but I have not seen that in a long time.

I tried to unplug the modem and cables to reset the IP , but that doesnt help. Also not that my service uses a Dynamic IP and I cant switch to static IP.

hello again...

dang this thing is a pain!!

new issue today, trying to save a tiny .rtf file to external USB drive, and get "semaphore timeout period has expired" message and have to save to local drive instead. also get the message if i drag and drop into the desired location.

perhaps related to the issue i occasionally have: the machine loses connection to the external drive and either the folder shows empty (it's not!) or doesn't show as even being connected. little blue light on the drive will sometimes go out, sometimes not, but still no access...

EDIT: i have two verbatim USB drive attached... one or the other of them will occasional disappear from This PC and when i look at device manager there is an error on that drive. i disconnect and reconnect and the drives show up and the error in device manger goes away... there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this happens. when it does and i try to save something to the drive, that's when i get the "semaphore timeout period has expired"

i have tried to update drivers using windows search online and it always says i have the best drivers loaded....

the drives have been checked for errors and windows reports none... there is still quite a bit of available space on them (80+ gigs on each) and when they are connected and live, i can access files with no problem... it just decides to seemingly drop the drive randomly...

thanks for any help...

I maintain some software that makes a tcp socket connection to a different piece of software and sends data back and forth (pretty basic stuff there). We use boost asio to handle reading and writing of data over the socket connection. We have a client that
has deployed this software on Windows7. The client has been having issues with our software not being able to maintain a reliable socket connection. One thing I have noticed is that quite often the networking callback are receiving the error: The semaphore
timeout period has expired.

This error is not coming from anywhere in our code (or the boost code). I've done some research on it and I found a Microsoft Knowledge base article on this error for Windows XP (support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/325487). I've seen a few people ask questions about
this error on Windows7, but they're all in regards to moving files to different drives, nothing regarding network connections.

What does this error mean in regards to Windows7? Does the knowledge base article I mentioned still apply to Windows7?

So I did a search and found nothing definitive regarding this particular error in my application.

I have a Dell laptop with an i7 processor, an SSD drive and 8g of ram, running Win7 Pro 64 bit.

I put a 128G micro sd card into the sd card adapter and slapped into the slot. When I try to move files to the card, I get the error.

I formatted the card just for grins. It won't format NTFS, but it did format exFat @ default allocation unit size.

The only file that didn't copy was one that's 21 megs in size. Everything else was smaller and copied over fine.

Donno what to do from here. Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings,

My environment is: Win'7, Visual Studio 2010, C#

There is another message on these forums with almost exactly the same title. It's closed, so I couldn't post there.

I'm getting that exact same response from Win'7 in a try /catch scheme.

i.e., "...The semaphore timeout period has expired..."

I am quite confident that the serial port is really there, as he will open and will transfer data from time to time.

It's the whims of the hardware that have me so confused.

The exact same code worked perfectly last night. In fact, it has worked for weeks.

The statement which I believe is causing the error is...
TheUsersChosenSerialPort.Open();

Much like the other thread mentioned, the port is a BlueTooth connector, and Win'7 is reporting him okay, and so on.

I welcome responses from those with useful knowledge on this topic.

Hello Ady,

Thanks for your post!

This issue may be a little complex and require some steps to troubleshoot:

1.    Update the driver of wireless network adapters in both of your computers.
2.    Temporarily disable all the firewalls and anti-virus applications, then check the issue again.
3.    To exclude the factors from other services and applications, do a clean boot to check the issue and perform Step 4.(KB929135) How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;929135
4.    With clean boot, try to apply the hotfixes contained in the following KB articles:(KB932045) Error message when you use a network connection to copy a large file from one Windows Vista-based computer to another Windows Vista-based computer: "The connection has been lost"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;932063
If problem still persists after steps above, this issue is very possibly due to network devices or configurations, please let me know:

1.    Whether this problem occurs in wired network?
2.    If strengthening the network signals, the problem can be changed?
3.    What size of files will lead to this error.

I'm trying to fix an hp pavillion dv6704nr laptop running windows vista home premium. It has the little red x on the speaker in the lower right hand corner. The owner said it has been there for some months. I have tried downloading the current audio drivers for the computer but every time I try to install the driver, I get an error that says the device couldn't be found.

The first time i restarted the computer, after the driver installation failed, the audio came back and worked fine, until I had to restart the computer. Now I keep getting the same error and nothing i have found so far online has helped.

There are no yellow triangles in the device manager and the device list isn't showing the category for "sound, video and gaming etc." at all.

Please help. I did a search but the other threads didn't solve this problem for me.
Thanks in advance.

A:No audio device installed error and devices wont show in Device Manager

I see three different audio driver packages at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...ct=3646926#N661.You need to find the right one to install. If you install one and the system doesn't work properly...please uninstall it before trying the next one.Installing the wrong one won't do anything harmful to your system...it just won't do any good to leave it installed.Louis

The AUDIO FADE PROBLEM is an issue with this laptop and I am wondering if it is related to the above.
I have upgraded to the latest BIOS and drivers using the Dell Product Support pages.
Every other day I have to reinstall the Realtek Audio Device to get audio from streaming media.
The current Driver Version is 6.0.1.7908 from Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Date 12/08/2016 which is what it defaults to upon reinstall.
I suspect that for whatever reason Dell has not yet come up with a fix. Has it something to do with the fact that although I bought the laptop new, it had been upgraded from Windows 8 to 10? (A fact that I only discovered later)

For six months or so, I've had a problem where my laptop's audio will stop working. The red "X" appears over the volume icon in the system tray and audio will not function whatsoever. Until now, rebooting has been 99% successful at restoring the audio until it eventually fails again. But in the last three days, my normal quick fix no longer does the trick. Apparently my laptop can no longer find the actual Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD hardware on the motherboard. This is a T520 laptop running Win 7 with SP1. The T520 is roughly six years old, so I realize the hardware's age might be a factor. There are definitely other issues related to its age (general performance sluggishness, inability to wake up from sleep mode, backup no longer works correctly) and I will eventually have to replace the laptop. But in the meantime, solving this persistent audio issue will buy me at least a few more months, so it's worth fixing to me. I've found dozens of threads that suggest reinstalling the device drivers, which of course I have tried several times using the drivers here. The problem: After rebooting, the device manager still doesn't list any playback device ("No audio devices are installed") even with both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" checked. Similarly, when I run the 8aad14ww.exe device installer, it terminates with an error message ("Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver").  Has the hardware itself ac... Hi,
We are using the Microsoft "Windows Device Portal" REST API to do mobile app side-loading.
Everything in the REST API is working for us except for the "uninstall app" which is a "http rest delete" call.
So, to troubleshoot, I thought I would use Microsoft "Message Analyzer" to see if we could see the http traffic coming to and from the workstation to the mobile device over the USB.
I didn't want to install the Fiddler .net library and it looks like if you are on W10, then you can use the Microsoft-Windows-WinINet-Capture provider.
My steps:
0. Start "Microsoft Message Analyzer" in admin mode
1. click "New Session"
2. click "LiveTrace" button
3. Add providers:
    a. Microsoft-Windows-WinINet
    b. Microsoft-Windows-WinINet-Capture
4. put *IPAddr == 127.0.0.1 as a filter
5. click Start button
At the top, I get an error icon saying "Modules Loaded  Errors or warnings were found when loading modules."
When I look at the log, these are the errors:

Dell Vostro 1400, Core2Duo. Installed Windows 7 64 bit a year and a half ago. For those not familiar, the Vostro is not entirely compatible with 64 bit, so the drivers are a little hit and miss.

Computer runs slow sometimes, has since the install. I don't think I've ever seen the yellow triangles before, but I may have never looked at the device manager ... the computer is a secondary machine in the house.

My question is, do these indicate a performance problem or can I ignore them and assume the computer is working as best it can?

A:Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

please check out this webpage. it may help you to get started: Device Manager - yellow exclamation point

The yellow icons showing an exclamation point can indicate missing or improper drivers. The system does not seem to recognizing your hardware. Hope this gets you started.

I have a 5-year-old Asus z70Va laptop. The hard drive is a PATA, and the system is running XP Home SP3. The problem I am about to describe started roughly a year ago, and has re-occurred at least 5-6 times.

I will be listening to audio (off the main hdd, not the DVD drive) when the problem starts -- usually streaming audio, though it has also happened twice when Outlook was playing a wav file as part of an Outlook rule I set up to flag emails from a particular sender. Interestingly, the error has *never* occurred when I have been playing a video file with audio.

What happens is that the music will sound as if it is getting "stuck" on one note or passage. It sounds distorted. It may pass quickly, but then will happen again ten-thirty minutes later, even if I stop and later restart the audio file (or stream). Once it recurs, I end up with this message in Event Viewer (System):

Event 9: The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.

If I don't stop the audio immediately, the distorted and very discordant "stuck" audio continues, leading to a series of Event 9's before I can stop the player. But about every other time that happens, I *can't* stop the player; instead the computer freezes up (sometimes going to a BSOD), and when I restart I find that I now also have a series of bad block errors on a previously clean drive (usually 2 bad clusters).

So I end up replacing the drive, but then a month or two later the... Read more

A:Strictly Audio-Related Serious Event 9 Errors (The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0...)

The audio is just a coincidence, not a symptom.

Bad sectors are a sign of a hardware issue with the HDD. Software won't cause bad sectors on a HDD. I'd suspect a bad HDD. If you have replaced the HDD multiple times, then there is an underlying hardware issue (ie: motherboard/controller issue or power).

Also, if you have to "whack" anything, there is a hardware issue. It's typically a sign of a loose of faulty connection. Otherwise "whacking" it wouldn't do anything.

I would like to watch videos on my Windows laptop and have the audio play from my Android phone. Is this possible?

The reason I want to do this is my audio jack on my laptop seems to be broken. I'm often in the library or others places where headphones are essential.

A:How to Stream Audio on Android Device while keeping Video on Windows Device

That would be very difficult.
Lets first find out if your if your Audio jack is broken.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed.
What is the make and model# of your laptop? Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers and type in your make and model# or service tag # and download the Chipset and Audio driver for your computer.

USB Imaging Device..whats all this mean??? does it have anything to do with why i can install my new modem?

A:USB Imaging Device, windows was unable to locate driver for this device..whats this m

At some stage recently you have placed a new scanner/digital camera, or the likes of, in your computer. Windows hasn't been able to apply a driver to that device and so it asks you if you want to connect to the internet to try and find a matching driver on the microsoft web site. The problem is easily solved. If you still have the device connected and plan on using it, then grab the CD that came with it and follow the installation instructions on it. If you don't have it connected then go back to the 'my computer' 'properties' into 'device manager'. In there disable the imaging device that has the yellow ! next to it. And hopefully next time you restart, no more problem.

Hi Malware Specialist!

I started out in the "Am I infected?" Forum and a junior specialist sent me here to get further help, here is the link to the 4 logs I ran for him:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic428124.html/page__p__2477667__hl__polarsnowfall__fromsearch__1#entry2477667

For several days I have been trying to complete the preliminary steps required by this forum, I can not back up to windows/microsoft program (Backup Configuration not valid 0X8100029), but hopefully the two other programs I used were successful, namely cobaine and driveimage. At the end of the driveimage session, it frozen and there was "Globalroot\device" followed by various endings. Then it completed and said finished. Also it went to blue screen the firsttime I tried to run GMER and rebooted.

The main problems of slow programs from startup, no devices in device manager, no audio device and no printing capability began after I ran some kids software games that kinda of frozen the computer, although I believe whatever is making my computer upset has been there for awhile and may have something to do with remnants of roxio 2009 and other shared folders. In services it says "Configuration Manager machine selected for remote communication is not available at this time."

I paired Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse to my Windows 7 Professional x64 HP ZBook 14 which is connected to my company's corporate domain. Everything worked beautifully until they had to re-image my PC to resolve a disk encryption issue. That issue is resolved, but I have had bad luck getting my keyboard and mouse to pair and remain connected ever since. However, that's not even the problem now. After troubleshooting my Bluetooth issues by installing different driver versions, pairing and un-pairing my keyboard and mouse, changing settings in Bluetooth Support Service and more, I now have two Bluetooth Peripheral devices that always appear in Device Manager. I believe these are remnants of previously paired devices, but I can not get rid of them no matter what I try. These devices do not show up in Devices and Printers, they become Bluetooth Low Energy HID Devices when I install the computer manufacturer's drivers... As I typed this I thought of installing the Intel Bluetooth drivers I had previously installed to see what would happen... Ok that made things worse. Now there are three random Bluetooth Low Energy HID Devices and none of them are actual devices that are paired to the PC. And pairing the devices does not help. If I could, I would just delete the registry keys but I can't (remember, corporate domain PC). Any help from you brilliant people would be great. Thank you!

2. Disable all problem devices in Device Manager
3. Stop and Disable Bluetooth support service
4. Use PSexec(64).exe to launch regedit as system allowing me to delete keys

The problem device is an external WD My Book 1 TB IEEE 1394 SBP2. I don't understand why there should be a paging operation on this device as it is used only as an external backup for the C: drive. A:Solved: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operati

The indicated solution of creating a virtual paging file for the WD MyBook drive did not correct the problem. The problem resides in the IEEE 1394 (firewire) driver. Do the following (quoted from http://social.answers.microsoft.com...e/thread/42085c5a-4f15-4dcd-8a76-9a7860b526c2) to correct the problem stated above:

"Update to my previous post. I updated my IEEE 1394 (Firewire) controller driver from "LSI 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" (1934ohci.sys ver 6.1.7600.16385 stock driver from Windows 7 64-bit) to "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)" (ochi1394.sys and 1394 bus.sys ver 6.1.7600.16385 also stock from Windows 7 64-bit).
This change seems to have resolved this issues described in my previous post in this thread. My external Firewire disk works normally now (no longer slow during large transfers) and the Warning ID=51 has not recurred (after two days).

To accomplish this driver change, here are instructions:
Control Panel > in control panel search box (upper right) type "device manager", run Device Manager (requires Admin authorization)
View > view by type, then expand IEEE 1394 Bus Controllers (by clicking the arrow)
Double click your 1394 OHCI Host controller (exact name may vary) to bring up "properties", and write down current driver name on Driver tab in case you want to go back later.
Driver tab > "Update Driver" > "Browse my computer for driver software" > "Let me... Read more
