Lenovo Hotkey for Lenovo ThinkPad X220 notebook

Q: Lenovo Hotkey for Lenovo ThinkPad X220 notebook

Friends from Lenovo,I write you because, on August 12th, 2016, trying to install the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I had to do a reboot of my notebook and in the process, I lost most of the programs and drivers that use my notebook to work properly. I already installed most of the drivers I lost that day, but I still haven`t found and install the correct driver for the hotkeys of my notebook. So far, I have tried with the files r09vu09w and 8jvu43ww, but none of that files is the correct one for my ThinkPad X220 notebook, which I bought in the year 2012. Therefore, I need to ask you if you could tell me how can I get, download the CORRECT hotkey file for my notebook, so I could download it and install it on my Lenovo notebook. Friends from Lenovo, could you please tell me how can I get the correct hotkey file for my notebook Lenovo ThinkPad X220, in order to download it and install it on my notebook?THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!! Yours truly,Cristián Palau

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Spoiler (Highlight to read)IMPORTANT!!IMPORTANT!!Friends from Lenovo,Yesterday I did the update to the new version of Windows 10, called Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or Windows 10, version 1709, and after the update was done I find out that the hotkey driver, that controls the Fn commands on the keyboard of my Lenovo ThinkPad X220, doesn`t work correctly with this new version of Windows 10. Therefore, I would like to know what can I do to fix this issue, so the hotkey commands work properly again in my notebook, or if it is going to be an update of this file (8jvu43ww.exe) that I could install in my notebook to fix this issue. Could you please tell me what can I do to make the Fn commands work properly with the new update of Windows 10 (Windows 10 Fall Creators Update) or if it is going to be an update of the hotkeys that is compatible with the new version of Windows 10?I look forward to hear your comments, and I hope you already have an idea, an answer to solve this issue. Yours truly,Cristián Palau

Hello to everybody,Recently I have bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and I want to increase the memory, (by default is 4 GB) to 8GB or 16 GB. if it is possible. My question is if this laptop support without any problems or errors 16GB RAM of memory, because officially it is only 8GB.RAM, but I have seen on internet, people with 16GB Ram in this laptop, Are there any problem with this? If so, upgrade to 10GB or 12GB RAM would be posible instead? Also I want to increase the capacity in my laptop (by default is 320 GB.HDD), and I want to put a 500 GB SSD Disc, and if is possible to maintain both the Hard Disc anda SSD Disc, it would be possible to put SSD Disc into the PCI Express slot and mantain the Hard Disc at the same time. Or the only possibility is to replace the Hard Disc for a SSD Disc?Thank you very much,Regards.

Hello all, first time posting on the Lenovo boards but I have been a ThinkPad user for about 5 years now. Probably will never go back to regular laptops!  I'm currently using a X220 (4286CTO) bought in Sept. 2011 and I'm looking to upgrade the laptop in a few ways so I can continue to use it well. Some relevant specs/system information?  i5-2540M @2.6GHz 4.0GB x 1  of RAMWindows 7 Professional 64bit BIOS version 1.40 (14/5/2015) 270 GB HDD Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wi-Fi AdapterMy questions: What is the max amount RAM/max speed RAM my machine can support and what are some trusted/compatible memory sticks you guys have used or are using in your X220? Should I buy another 4GB x 1 stick or go for a new set of 4GB x 2 sticks? I want to install a mSata SSD. What are some compatible/reliable mSata SSDs that would be good and what is the max storage/speed SSD that would work? A:Lenovo ThinkPad X220 General Upgrade Information (RAM/SSD)

Hi and welcome, heyArhumGlad to see ThnkPad and x220 lover 1. x220 supports up to 2x8 GB RAM installed. With BIOS up to v.1.28 it supports 1333 Mhz memory by default (by design) and memory 1600 Mhz w/o issues. With 1866 Mhz memory some issues might appear, depending on the memory stick manufacturer, model, parametersStarting with BIOS v.1.29 using not designed memory type is locked.2. x220 mSATA slot supports SATA II interface. There are no SATA III lines of laptop chipset in that interface. So, use any mSATA drive, on your choice - capacity, budget, vendor..., not in the m.2 formfactor (!). Intel, Plextor, Crucial, Corsair, Samsung, Kingston... Not NoName and OCZ. Of course, most mSATA III drives are back compatible with mSATA II slots. The choosing between mSATA + HDD and regular 2.5" SSD drives depends on the storage capacity you need, laptop usage profile.3. I don't know about palmrest cracking issue despite the fact I contacted with hundreds of the x220 owners, since the beginning of 2011. I'm sure there might be a bit trouble with parts fixing under palmrest, their routine. There was the single case I remember - the user has breaked it himself due to the impact.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and my C drive (windows drive) corrupted yesterday. I cannot get to Lenovo Recovery to restore my C drive because the C drive was totally corrupted. I use linux bootable usb to try to access my hard drive, the C drive was corrupted, no data can be read, but the Recovery Partition (Q:\) was fine. I try to re-install my Thinkpad using the same OS (Windows 7 Pro-64 Bit) using the product key inside the battery slot to see if my hard drive fails or not, but the Windows that I reinstalled was fine until now. The Recovery Partition was still there, with different Letter path (changed to D:\) and whatever inside the recovery partition was hidden but the partition was 10GB used, so I think what inside the partition was hidden. My question is:1. Can I use my Recovery Partition again to factory reset my Thinkpad?2. Can I use the Recovery Partition with the Lenovo Rescue & Recovery apps that I download from Lenovo Website? Thank you, I still need My Thinkpad X220 eventhough I already have newer Lenovo laptop. Your help is much appreciate.

Hi everyone, first post here!
My laptop is currently causing me some aggravation regarding fast startup. It is a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 I have upgraded to Windows 8 and then 8.1 and an SSD and up to now has been performing flawlessly.
Recently, with the fast startup option enabled, the computer has been shutting itself off completely after the startup animation and requires the power button pressing again before it will boot up, in 'normal startup' speed.
I have tried disabling and re enabling fast startup, using the 'powercfg -h off' and 'powercfg -h on' commands to recreate the hiberfil.sys file and that's about all I can think of. It still behaves the same, turning itself off completely immediately after the startup animation.
Anyone got any ideas to resolve this?

A:Fast startup causing problems - Lenovo Thinkpad X220

Fast startup has worked a couple of times in the meantime - I swapped the wireless card yesterday and reinstalled some drivers to resolve some unrelated issues and it started working again. Yay! I thought - but after the first couple of goes it started doing the same thing again and shutting off after the animation!

He there,
I found a couple of similar threads, but I could not solve my problem yet.
Since a bought this laptop almost a year ago I have random system chrashes with a "Driver Power State Failure".
Sometimes it seems especially when I use lots of programms at the same time and always when the computer automatically goes to "sleep" or "poer save mode" (or when I close the lid).
What can I do to solve the problem or where is the problem exactly?

Kind regards

As said in the title, my hotkeys don't work after every boot until  I go to 'services.msc' and restart the Lenovo Hotkey Client Loader. Afterwards, every hotkey works including after sleep and until the next boot. Could anyone help me diagnose the problem with the service? 'services.msc' displays the loader as running after every boot, meaning that the service itself has messed up somewhere.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I'm not an owner of your model, but with some Lenovo laptops Hot Key functionality is added by installing the Lenovo Utility application.  For your model there isn't a Windows 10 version of Lenovo Utility available, but you may wish to try installing the Windows 8.1 version.  If it doesn't install then try re-installing again using Windows Compatibility Mode.  Here is a link to the Windows 8.1 driver....

Hi there. I'm planning to buy a Lenovo G500 laptop, and I simply can't find the correct answer to one small question.

As you might know, laptops of today incorporate many hotkey functions on their F1-F12 keys. And for that particular Lenovo model (and some of its closely-related brethren), I can't figure out what the F8 hotkey does in Windows 7.

It looks like three small squares, and ''F8'' below them. According to the G500 user manual, it is used to ''display all currently active apps''. As apps are only available in Windows 8, does anyone of you know what purpose could it serve in Windows 7?

I posted this already on Lenovo official forums, but not a single soul bothers to answer. There's gotta be someone who uses Windows 7 on Lenovo G500/G505/G510/G700/G710 or any other Lenovo with inverted Fn/function keys. If you're one of them, press F8 (or Fn+F8) and tell me what happens.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 10 year old Lenovo X220 running Windows 10 Pro. I recently upgraded RAM from 4 to 16 Gig and replaced the original HD with a Samsung SSD. The SSD migration had no problems and I'm enjoying a much faster boot up and improved performance. The only problem is my external usb keyboard has stopped working, but not my external usb track ball. Before the SSD and memory upgrade I was able to plug the external usb keyboard into any usb port on the dock and it worked fine. I've tried plugging the usb keyboard into every usb port on the docking station when docked and on the laptop (undocked) and none of them work with the keyboard. All of the X220 usb ports can read and write to usb memory sticks. I've tested this same usb keyboard on my desktop and it works fine.  Reading some other X220 forums, I've used the Windows Device Manager to delete the Standard PS/2 Keyboard from the Keyboard folder, and I've deleted and reinstalled all of the USB Hubs and Controllers in the Unversal Serial Bus controllers folder.  I love this laptop but it's really annoying that I can't dock it and use a full size keyboard.  I have no idea why the memory upgrade of SSD would have affected ONLY an external usb Keyboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Joe

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 running Windows 7, and I've had it for about two years now. It worked fine up until this morning and now immediately turns off even if it is tilts slightly. When I say it turns off immediately, I mean it's like the battery has been taken out. Sometimes static will appear momentarily on screen before it turns off, and other times it won't turn off, but the entire screen just stays frozen. Also, now when I try to access websites like Facebook or Google which would normally be okay, I get a message saying that the website's security certificate is not trusted. I feel like doing a system restore would help, but since I got the laptop from school I don't have administrator privileges and cannot do so.

Below are my laptop's specs. Honestly I have no idea whether this is a hardware or software problem. If anyone has any idea what might be wrong or knows of any way to fix this, your help is much appreciated.

I know what you mean, it happened in XP when you set the screen resolution larger than what the screen was capable of. What cable are you using the connection to your secondary monitor? On the secondary monitor, press the auto calibrate button, or it's equivalent, and then unplug the VGA/HDMI cable and plug it back in see if that fixes your problem. it's also worth trying going into the settings and checking the button that says "hides modes not supported by this monitor" If you don't know where that is, right click on the desktop and click "screen resolution" then click advanced and at the bottom of that pop up you should see that check box. Those are the first things to check.

Suddenly, one of my RAM slots (X220) stopped working. If I insert one RAM module somtimes the Laptpo is starting and running for a short time until it power offs and reboots. Then I get Beep Notifications. Or the Notebook is not starting at all and I get Beep notifications directly.Just removing one RAM module works fine. I can even switch the RAM modules in the slot that is still working. So it is not a problem of the RAM module just the slot seems broken. What can I do? Can I somehow "clean" the slot (maybe dust related?)?Can I replace it?Bests,Nick

Hello, The fan in my lenovo X220 tablet stops working after awhile from turning the device on (after around 10 minutes). This causes the temperature of the processor to always be above 90 degree C (using TPFanControl V 0.61). The fan control software shows that the fan is turning at 4060 RPM, but there is absolutly no air coming out! I recently re-applied the thermal paste, and the problem (fan turning off) "might" have started after re-applying the thermal past - I did it in a local computer service shop. I tried to update the BIOS, but the battery does not work and the installation does not start (it gives me an error) because of that. I have been using my X220 for six years with no problems and I currently run windows 10. Please let me know if you have any idea on how to fix this issue.

A:Lenovo X220 Tablet Fan Turn Off after few minutes

There are only 2 parts involved - the fan and the motherboard.  If the fan bearing gets hot and seizes, it would spin at start-up to avoid the fan error message.  Fans are cheaper than motherboards, so if it were mine, I would try a new fan.

My lenovo x220 has a large bar of static taking up a quarter of my screen. I know it isn't software based as I have already run a diagnostic and all my drivers are up to date. I scanned for viruses. Also nothing. Any advice??

This y720 is my first real computer that I've bought/owned myself, so i'm not too good with understanding parts. I'm trying to have 16gb of total RAM but I ordered the wrong type of RAM (different Hz) and had to send it back. Before trying again I was wondering if this would be compatible with the RAM my latop came with. They seem to have the exact same specs. Or is it preferable to get identical ones? Another question, that's more for convenience: I recently had to reset my laptop because it had an Os problem. After I got that sorted, I went to the lenovo website and redownloaded Nerve Sense, the Bios, and a few other recommended things. The hotkeys for it dont seem to work (keyboard lighting, fan overdrive, etc). Is there a way to get the computer to use the Hotkeys again. I'd like to use them because its much faster than opening up nerve gear everytime I want to turn my lights off.
