I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Version 4.18
Released on 28 May 2015.
A security hole with the Windows print spooler has been plugged. An application could use the print spooler to write an arbitrary file outside the sandbox. If Sandboxie detects that the print spooler is attempting to write a file outside the sandbox at the request of a sandboxed application, it will issue "SBIE1319 Blocked spooler print to file".
NOTE: Some printer drivers write temporary files to their own work area, even when not printing to file. In these cases, you will get SBIE1319 even when printing normally (not to file). The print may still print successfully. In this situation, you can safely ignore SBIE1319, hide the error message, or open the folder as described below.

There are 3 ways to allow the print spooler to print to file:

1) If you trust the process that is printing, you can double-click the SBIE1320 (that follows SBIE1319) to allow the print spooler to write files outside the sandbox for that particular process. 2) The spooler can write files outside the sandbox according to OpenFilePath settings. This enables you to permanently open the folders a particular printer driver uses to store its work files. 3) You can manually add the setting AllowSpoolerPrintToFile=y to sandboxie.ini. This is not recommended as it leaves your sandbox open to a print spooler exploit.
Any error msgs generated when auto-deleting a sandbox will now be shown to the user.

Hello everyone.
It seems Qihoo 360 products has a lot of bugs lately and i explain what i mean:

- Real time protection seems to work good AFTER 2-3 system restart.
- I've test 360IS with sandboxie or browser in Comodo sandbox and it doesn't detect anything (only on demand scan)
- Web protection doesn't work on Mozilla or Mozilla based browsers.
- Removal speed is very slow and guess what..........during removal there is a possibility to get BSOD!!!
360 IS detected all samples but I got my first BSOD when i was trying to remove those samples found here:
King of bugs
- I've test it with sandboxie or browser in Comodo sandbox and it doesn't detect anything (only on demand scan)
- Web protection doesn't work on Mozilla or Mozilla based browsers.
- Everytime i wanted to add a program to whitelist or open the sandbox window to erase active programs Total Security was stop responding
- Memory usage was stuck on 200 - 240MB (with BD engine active only)
- Be careful of ''system optimization'' tool as it found windows system restore unnecessary and it prompt me to disable.......

Until all these fixed i will use another Vendor.

I have my data files stored in d:\data, which is encrypted with EFS. My removable drive backups are all encrypted as well. Obviously, I don't use MS Backup for that, since it has no encryption. I felt reasonably secure until I learned about the data file copies that are created with each System Restore Point. These are the ones restored with "Restore Previous Versions" on the Explorer drop down menu. They are stored in the Volume Information folder.

Could these files be read by someone who got hold of my internal hard drive? If so, is there a way to encrypt these files? I do realize that these "previous versions" files are limited. It is not my whole data folder, just most recent changes and limited by the size I set for previous versions storage. Nonetheless, I am wondering if I should just turn of this Windows feature for security.

A:Data secured with EFS, what about Previous Versions storage?

Encrypted files that are saved by System Restore or Previous Versions retain the encryption placed upon the files.

Using 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro with an automatically updated Firefox, currently version 40.0.2.

Start up Firefox and...nothing. Check Process Explorer and see Firefox is there. Try to start up TCPview and...nothing. Decide to go back to Process Explorer and kill off Firefox - before I get that far - SHAZAAM! - TCPview starts, Firefox responds with browser window - all as it should be.

This has been the behavior for awhile now, admittedly intermittently but none-the-less a relatively new bad behavior.

And the REAL problem is hinted at by that TCPview issue up above - Firefox is freezing the whole system solid after a moment or two (Process Explorer can be run within that moment and displays dynamic results, windows can be switched to, but new processes (minimal testing) apparently cannot be started in a timely manner).

There are other complaints around the 'Net noting this type of behavior.

So...anyone know the reason for such powerful failure? (this should slow Firefox itself, not the entire system)

A:Latest couple Firefox versions slow/freeze whole system

Quick followup - this may be an Avast problem, not a Firefox problem, based off of searching for symptoms on the 'Net.

Remote Management of Win2K Servers: Three Secure Solutions

by Mark Burnett
last updated September 25, 2002

It's a common scenario: your company has an IIS Web server sitting 300 miles away at a high-bandwith, air-conditioned and power-regulated co-location center. The network is stable and the price is right, but you must completely manage the server remotely; you can't just go sit down at the console whenever you want. Remote management presents several problems, the most obvious being that the traffic between you and the server is travelling across the public Internet, available for others to sniff. Another problem is that remote administration normally involves installing software and opening ports, both of which increase the attack surface of your server. The goal when selecting a remote administration solution is to make sure that you (and only you) can do your job without exposing the server to additional risk.

In particular, the concerns when administering a remote server are:

A:Remote Management of Win2K Servers: Three Secure Solutions

SSH2 is a great solution for UNIX administration whether it's remote or not. I disable telnet, ftp, and similar on all of my systems. SSH2 with X-11 tunnelling works great with either Cygwin, Exceed, or similar!
On the other hand, I haven't had good results tunnelling VNC over SSH2. I've tried it between my RH 7.3 workstation and my Win2K laptop using a D-Link 10/100 Switch. The problem that I had was that the client would lock up and/or miss screen updates from the server. Direct VNC between the two worked great. I tried both the regular VNC and TightVNC with the same results. TightVNC did work a bit better (it lasted a minute before locking rather than 30 seconds).

If you're using OpenSSH I recommend the following: 1) Disable root logins, 2) Use shared key authentication over userid/password, and 3) Disable SSH1 protocol. You might also consider the added support/security of a non-open source SSH2 distro like F-Secure if you're in a corporate environment.

I'm not really sure about the advantages of using Zebedee over SSH2, if there are any. I don't see any known expoits for Zebedee while there have been several found for OpenSSH. You could look at this as either good or bad.

I'm looking to set up a couple of VM hosts and am trying to decide how to set up the storage,
Storage Technolgy - I was thinking about SSDs as our current servers have 146gb SAS drives and we don't have space issues, 256gb SSDs would give us room for future expansion. What model of SSDs would be best? I only have experience with Samsung 830s, are there server grade drives we are not heavy usage?
Connectivity/Backup - I'm unsure how best to connect whatever storage I decide on, I'd like to be able to move VMs between the two Hosts to load balance and for redundancy if one host goes down.

I've had a bit of a look into iSCSI as FC is probably out of my budget and it looks like it would help by centralsing all the VMs, backup could be to a secondary iSCSI host. I'm not sure of the performance I'd get though without going to 10gb.

The other option would just be local raid cards with additional slow SATA storage to cross backup the VMs, looking around most VM hosts have live backup utilities that would do the job then if a host failed it would just be a case of moving the VM to the primary storage from the backup and starting it again. (changing the backup to local until the other host comes back up) I could then back the slow storage to portable disks to take off site in case of loss of both hosts or for data recovery.

Previously, I had installed Windows 7 on a new SSD and also installed a new 1TB hard drive for file storage, photos, and programs. The SSD crashed and I had to get another one. I just installed Windows on it and then added my hard drive, which still has files on it when I ran the first SSD.

The hard drive shows in BIOS but not in My Computer. I went to Disk Management and it was listed as Foreign. I read that I should choose the option, Import Foreign Disk, which I did. I kept the same drive letter it had the first time around, and which showed this time, W. It is now listed as Disk 1, Dynamic Online, & Healthy. Now what do I need to do to continue to use it as I did previously, while keeping my data? I don't want to lose my files and photos, but I can always download the software again if I lose the programs.
