getting pops on burning audio cd's

Q: getting pops on burning audio cd's

On my HP cd writers, When I burn an exact copy
of audio cd's ( any brand , I get popping sounds on my speakers of the burned cd. This occurs on all diff brands of cd's -r, and even when I lowered the speed of the burn to 4x , It still has pops. Do you think my cd burner is defective or can it be my adaptec software, if it occurs each time I burn cds and even use diff brands of rewritable cd's? Please reply, Jason 8/15/01

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: getting pops on burning audio cd's

First, verify that the CDR or CDRW disks you're using are rated for the speed at which you are burning them. Even though you lowered the speed to 4X, do the disks say specifically 4X or higher? If they don't say anything, burn them at 2X.

Second, are you having problems with all of your audio CDs or just ones that you've purchased recently, maybe in the last few months? Try burning an older CD. Rumor is that record companies are employing technology to ruin the quality of copies.

to be completely honest, my PC has never really operated quite the way I thought it should, has had several problems and remedies, but has at least been able to do the things it was designed to do, however for the last 2 or 3 months I have been having a
specific, and rather terrible problem occuring...

To start at the beggining of the issue-at-hand, I had been running at 5% overclocked for several weeks, and foolishly decided to "up it" to 20%. Instinct had told me to let it alone, however I did not listen to my own warnings, and proceeded into windows saving all new BIOS changes. This setting has been used before, and did not perform well, however everything did function on any occasion that I had dared attempting it. This time was much different. I had crashed the system. Not only that, but I also seemed to loose functionality of my monitor! After reseting my CMOS (and splurging on a great new screen!) I was up and running again...temporarily that is. I had recently purchased the latest copy of MaximumPC, but had not yet gone through the magazine, or the complimentary disc of software that comes with it. Deciding there might be a useful tool or two that I could maybe make do with in light of my last crisis, I had added a disc utility (defrag) program called "Perfect Disc 10". The program contains a feature that claims to be able to unmount the current hard drive and defrag sysytem files. I, of course thought this sounded like a great idea! The program ... Read more

What audio card or chipset are you using? If its a card, is it slotted next to another card, ideally it should be placed away from other cards to avoid interference.

Also, check that its interrupt is not shared with another device (see Device Manager) which may reduce performance of you audio devices.

Ok, i'm new to this CD Burning. I have Nero Express, and i'm having a little problem with it.

I've copied an Audio CD to a CD-R, and it plays fine, but there are still space on it, and i wanted to put a MP3 (it converts to CDA really nice also) together with the already burned tracks, but i can't. Everytime i put the same CD, i get the folloqing message:

"This midia cannot be recorded
Please Insert another midia."

(Sorry if it's not right, cuz i translated from portuguese)

Can i do what i want?? How??

Sorry if it is hard to understand, it is hard to explain.

Thank you

A:Audio CD Burning with Nero Burning Rom

You cannot append any audio files to an disc that has been completed. Once a disc is completed it cannot access the remaining space. Especially with Nero Express. Once a disc is burned it is "closed (finalized)."

This is just a simple explanation.

I believe Roxio's Easy cd creator lets you add files to your disc as long as you don't "finalize" it. Until you finalize it you will not be able to listen to the music.

I have a year-old HP Pavilion dv9000 notebook - dual core, 2GB RAM...

I've recently noticed that when ripping CDs (encoding MP3 at highest quality and highest bit rate) some audible pops are encoded as well. These are written into the audio, they aren't just random playback errors, and they don't exist on the original CD.

Microsoft website says not to use other programs whilst ripping - I've closed everything, stopped all antivirus/antispyware, unplugged all external hardware. It's running on High Performance power options... Short of stopping all extraneous services and cutting back on every app that's running in the background (which I'm trying to do anyhow) what more can be done?

It cost me 800 back in the day (makes me sick now), I really think it should be able to manage ripping a few CDs

Any guidance or insults welcome

My computer has some sort of malware software infection. After experiencing random pop-ups, installed and ran both Ad-Aware (free version) and Malwarebytes software (paid version). Found some infected files and proceeded with having all quarantined. Most recent file to be deleted was by Malwarebyes msansspc.dll(Trojan.Agent).

Also running McAfee Virus Scan Ver 12.10, Build 12.1.110 - virus definition files updated as of 10/17/08. Ran full scans of computer and deleted recommended files.

I thought all was fine, however, still receive pop-up for "Donate to animal cruelty"(or similar) as well as occastional "audio' pop-ups. Both types appear momentarily and then disappear.

Have installed HijackThis and would like to have log file examined for suggestions.

Suddenly my audio has crackles and pops. Maybe a coincidence but it seemed to happen after the 10/29 patch Tuesday. This has been an issue on both my old/new PC, I cant ever figure out how to fix this but it's been driving me mad. It randomly just gets worse at the worst times. I ran LatencyMon for a few minutes and got this: Audio pops - Pastebin.com

This latency issue has been going on since my old PC, my current one is only less than a month old and its been doing it to. Lots of audio pops and dropouts.

A lot of the main ones I see come up are:
USBPORT.sys (Fixed by disabling USB3.0 apparently)

A:Audio dropouts/Pops

You list the sound card as AMD High Definition Audio Device, which is sound for HDMI, not the regular PC sound. Are you using HDMI?

The regular PC sound would be RealTek, IDT, etc.

Are you using Wi-Fi or wired cable for internet? Wi-Fi is a known cause of your problem.

Whenever I insert an audio CD into my drive, I get a window which pops up asking "What do you want Windows to do?".

The options I have are to either Rip, Copy or Play the CD using a variety of programs that are automatically added to the list.

I want to add EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to that list, but I don't know how.

Any suggestions?

A:How Do You Add A Program To The Window That Pops Up When You Insert An Audio CD?

Hello Son of Spam,

This can be configured in the File Types section.
To open up this you :
- open a Windows Explorer
- Go Tools > Folder Options
- on the file types tab you select the extension (NONE) Audio CD, click Advanced and there you go to add Programs on to the list.

Same goes for a lot of other content.

I'm kinda at my wits end. I have a Dell XPST500 system that has performed great until I installed XP Pro. For the most part the system works ok. However when I listen to audio of any type (CD, Streaming, Video File, Wave File, MP3, etc..) there is a constant click and pop that occurs.

I've made the only change that I could find recommended by Microsoft. Dell has no plans to really support my system on XP Pro. Any ideas? I have also noted that when listening to a CD changing tracks takes about 10 + seconds when using the |< or >| player buttons. (Any player software)

When 98 and Me were installed these problems were not apparent.

Thanks in advance for your help

I have had nothing but problems with Windows 7 audio. I have read through these forums looking for fixes but nothing that I have found listed here has worked so far. I have a Dell XPS 420 Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.33 GHz. I have tried disabling enhancements under "Sound" in the control panel. I have also gone to the advanced settings and unchecked the button "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".
I updated the firmwear for the DVD player (A Philips DVD RW "DH-16a6s"). That did not help much.
I still get popping and skipping before completely losing audio after about 5-10 minutes of playing. This happens on burned CD's or regular CD's. I had a DVD freeze on me for about 30 seconds but it did end up resuming and playing just fine.

Thank you for any advice you might give. I have put a few specs in my description but Dell's specs sheets are quite inadequate so if you need more please tell me where to find them and I'll gladly provide them.

I came here to post the same question. My issue stems from Winamp, youtube, games, wmp, and pretty much anything that makes sound on the computer. I have tried different speakers and reinstalled the drivers from vendor's site. I am using the onboard sound from my ASUS M3A.
The problem seems to have started last night.
Maybe it is the motherboard?
I have been looking for a reason to replace it.
Oh and I think the sound is a Realtek ALC883.

I have a USB sound card (TASCAM US-122), which I've had for approx 3 yrs. It worked perfectly in my old WinXP / Celeron 3GHz system... I've recently upgraded to a WinXP / Athlon dual core 4000+ system, and I'm now getting A LOT of audio clicks and pops during playback... even on default windows sounds.

I have tried all the XP audio configuration tips listed at www.musicxp.net.

The motherboard is an ASUS M2N-MX, and I run windows on a separate disk to most of my audio.
*** It doesn't matter which drive the audio files are located on... the clicks and pops occur just the same.
*** When there is no audio playing, there are no pops and clicks generated by the sound card.
*** When I enable the on-board sound card and route audio to it, there are no clicks and pops.
*** I have installed the latest driver for the US-122 (3.40)
*** The problem exists even when the US-122 is the only USB device connected to the system
*** The US-122 is not faulty -- it works fine on my Vista laptop, and an old WinXP 1.5GHz Centrino laptop.

Any thoughts?

I am looking for advice as the best way to solve this problem. I am also experiencing issues with the audio and video not being in sync no matter what i do and was wondering if this latency issue may be the cause of this also.

A:I need help with latency issues causing audio pops

Considering this is a USB connected device, I would look at the USB for issues, if you didn't have problems previously with the on-board audio.

Also, if you haven't done it, disable the on-board audio in the BIOS to avoid any conflicts.

I had read somewhere that you need to make sure windows and emu's patchmix are set to the same bit rate i.e. if your emu is set to 4800 make sure windows is as well. Does the USB version not offer you ASIO option for the driver? I am using the PCI version with Sonar LE 4.0.1 and I have had no issues with latency or poping. I hope this helps a bit. I'll see if I can find the article I read about it.

Edit: Here is what I had read, I didn't have a problem when I was installing or anything but some folks did. Like I said I use the PCI version but I assume it would react the same with the USB version:

Go into the audio card properties - advanced; switch the playback frequency from 48K, which is default, to 44K (if thats what setting your using for playback in Patchmix.) Apparently Win 7 doesnt set the default playback frequency to what is selected in Patchmix.

I have some serious audio issues that seems to point to some type of hardware or driver I recently installed. I have a lot of popping, cracking and stutters that actually make video playback stutter when it happens too. I play a lot of video games, it doesn't seem to impact games outside of having stutters and pops (i.e.: the game doesn't stutter or freeze like video).

I want to say this started happening when my machine mysteriously crashed a few weeks ago. My USB portable hard drive would cause Windows7 to hang on startup and would take 30 minutes to load Windows. After that time, I noticed my audio had broke it's drivers and I reinstalled new ones for an external sound card. I used the computer with the broken audio for another week and now I'm just getting tired of the issues. I assumed it was just with the sound card I was using, thus I removed the hardware and went back to onboard audio with my old Gigabyte Motherboard. However, the issues are still present even though I'm using a different audio source and utilizing different (REALTEK) drivers that are up-to-date.

My wife said she uninstalled some codec, but I have no idea what ones were uninstalled. I suspect that could be the issue, however my Catalysis Control Center for ATI is no longer working either. I assume my graphical drivers could be a cause as well. If not, I'm at a loss other than the recent memory I added. I put in 6 gigs of memory (2x 2gigs + 2x 1gigs) when of course, my 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate... Read more

I've come to you as a last resort. So you see, I have an outdated system that fared pretty well for over two years. Despite low memory, I've been able to play almost all big title games (from HalfLife 2 to BioShock, low details ofcourse) and I've also been able to work with serious engineering software (from AutoCad to SolidEdge and ANSYS modeling). Now the sob story. I was surfing and listening to some mp3's on my iTunes (yeah, it works fine for me, go figure!) and suddently the system starting lagging, the audio starting crackling and poping. I stopped iTunes. Started over another song and the first 5 seconds where ok, but then the lagging became evident (mouse moved very slowly, almost non-responsive) and the audio stuttered and crackled for 10 to 20 seconds, then it seemed to smooth out. I was baffled so I tried closing every program running and left iTunes. Again, to no avail, the crackling and lagging came after 5 to 10 seconds of Audio. I tried different mp3 players. Same result. About the Audio Playback Crackle...

I know it has been a while but hope this helps someone with similar issues just thought I'd register and post away the solution that fixed my audio playback crackling...
I am not sure if this would help you guys with your problems but it definitely helped me a lot and I think its worth a try.... I recently started to get those nasty crackles during audio playback + the windows sounds WDM / Direct Sound (no DAW or recording) I tried all sorts of codecs+updates to chipset drivers+directx+updates+sound card drivers to no avail.

I just did not want to do a system restore or a reinstallation of the OS because its a hassle at first and many have reported on the net that it still fails to fix the crackling audio issue so I am not sure if that would fix it or not as I have not tried it,but it seemed to be the CPU hanging as well that caused the sound to struggle though my PC is quite ok when it comes to specs and I was sure that it could not be the sound card either because it was working just fine until two days ago and I've updated my drivers too (M-Audio Audiophile 192)therefore, I assumed there was something wrong somewhere else and started to google out....

Anyways,to make the long story short I found out the problem and fixed it... I've realized that the IDE Controllers were messed in the device manager my controllers were set to use the DMA if available but was currently reporting in PIO Mode or not capible,I will not... Read more

time was 78mins, and thus no more tracks fit.
So there is a 80min not 700mb limit on Audio CDs.

I converted from WAV to MP3 for the purpose of fitting
50 songs on a CD. Apparently, in audio burn mode, it is
not the file sizes but the running time that matters.
Thus, I could've set to 8kb/s low quality, but the running
time remains, and so I cant fit 3 studio CDs unto 1 CD.

Ifcourse, I could play my MP3&WAV CDs in the PC, or in the DVD player,
but the CD player doesnt play WAVs. Then whats the point of
burning MP3's on Audio CD's?

Just to be clear with the forum rules here, we do not offer assistance with anything that involves P2P programs, like LimeWire.

As to the problem, it sounds like your CD was not finalized.

I recently wasted hours burning some audio files to CD-RW media only to discover that when I tried to listen to them on my car radio all I got was an error message. Can anyone assist me with directions on the best way to avoid the same problem again?

I used WMA, but also have Realplayer and Dell's Jukebox to burn from. I assume I'm copying the files in the wrong format for the CD-RW media, but I don't know how to change or designate a different foremat on these programs.

A:Burning Audio to CD-RW

Try burning an Audio CD with a CD-R, instead of CD-RW. RW discs are sometimes unplayable in a regular CD player.

Tech-support of a particular cd player I am using recommends I burn all my cds at 8x. WMP unfortunately does not use numbers in burning speeds but the terms slow-medium-fast-fastest. Can anyone please tell me which one is equivalent to 8x? I cannot use my Power2go because 10x is its minimum so I am stuck with WMP.

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

A:burning audio cd

The burner drive's available burn speeds will determine what speeds to burn, not WMP or any other burning program. All that program does is allow you to select an available burn speed.

I have a recording studio and do a lot audio CD burning. I use 8X as my "standard" so the CD's will play in almost all audio CD players. Above 8X and some will not play the CD or will skip.

Almost all SATA CD/DVD burners will only go down to 8X (there is one LG model that will go to 8X but that's all I've found). I have a bank of 5 PATA (IDE) interface drives (USB connected) and they will burn at 8X. I use Nero Burning ROM. The free CDBurnerXP will allow you to select an actual available burning speed if you don't want to buy Nero. Roxio will allow you to select a speed too but I abandoned Roxio due to all the buggy problems they have had over the years.

Clean boot troubleshooting has pointed me towards success.
In the system config utility, I hid all Microsoft services; then disable the remainder.

In the startup group, I disabled everything.

After rebooting, I was able to create an audio CD using WMP 10.

I use Nero 6 Ultra to burning audio CD's. Lately, I have been having a problem when burning mp3 audio. It seems to burn fine but some cd's I burned will not play on a cd player or car stereo. I have tried cd-r and cd-rw media but it seems not to make a difference.
Is there another type of mp3 format i can use?

A:Audio cd burning

Are you sure that you are burning audio CDs from the MP3 files and not creating Data CDs with MP3 files on them? Most older home and car CD players will only play Audio CDs and not recognize any kind of Data CDs. Some newer players may be able to play MP3 files from Data CDs.

Real old players may have problems with burned Audio CDs.

For some unknown reason, after I burn some CD's, many at first sound great; but, after a while, they mysteriously develop unwanted and annoying crackles and pops in playback, almost as an old vinyl recording. Many are like that immediately, and some never do it at all. To explain further, it's almost like a scratch in a record. Is there a reason for this? And, if so, can it be prevented.

Hey,all. This is my first thread after joining this forum. Just to let u all know that this forum has been such a great help to me. Thank you tech maestros out there who shared your knowledge.

However, i have this problem that I don't think anyone has ever posted. I am using Nero burning ROM version Nero Start Smart i am using a Samsung combo Drive CDRW/DVD SM-352N 52x24x52x16x. I used a blank Imation CD-R to burn about 20 songs using Nero. The songs are in mp3 format and I believe Nero converts them to audio files because i chose the option >> make audio cd.

After burning the CD, I played it on my PC.It works fine with winamp and Windows Media Player. But when i play it on my discman, it skips. I could only listen to the first 4 songs and the rest was screwed up. Anyone who has a solution or who wants to share their same problem, just reply. Thanks in advance for the help.

A:Cd Burning: Audio

Hi Izzy,

I just had this happen to me a couple weeks ago, I use Nero 6 , and after the big update day, I was going about my business, messing around with my media library, and I kept getting the same error.

It seems to me like that error comes from using the wrong format for the program opperation, or that the output path for the file is in use.

Anyway, after a half of an hour, I got mad, and reinstalled it......problem solved, in my case anyway. I use the K-Lite Codec Pack, and although I love it's universal quallities, for some reason, it's the buggiest program I use, and find myself reinstalling it once a week or so.

Although, it also could just be something as simple as two programs stepping on eachothers toes, maybe you have another media player that shares the target .extension, and there is a conflict, I think that is my problem, the only thing is, I have to many media players with odd settings to mess up.

Hope this helps,

A friend of mine used his digital recorder to record some audio and burnt it on a cd. It took 10 cd's took to capture all the audio!

Is it possible to burn it onto a DVD so that you don't have to waste all those cd's? If it is possible to do this, is a dvd-r ok to use? Also, can I play the dvd in my dvd player?

A:Burning Audio onto DVD

Yes you can burn them in a DVD disc as long as you have a DVD burner drive, appropriate burning software that support DVD burning. If you will use the DVD on your DVD player that will depend on what file type your player supports.

I want to create compilation Audio CD's to play on a regular stereo system & on an in-car CD player.

I use NTI 2000 Professional.

I do not want to burn a whole CD at once; I want to be able to add more tracks at a later date.

However, I still want to be able to play the unfinished CD on the regular CD players, that is, to listen to all the tracks already created.

Can this be done with NTI 2000 Professional & if so, what software settings do I use when burning tracks?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Best wishes.

I do not think there is a way to play non closed cd's on a convetional player or for that matter on cdrom's. To make matters worse if you burn to a cdrw disk some players do not read those correctly.
Hope someone else has other ideas.

The CDs may have compatibility issues with the drive. Search for a firmware update for your model.
Drive may be going bad, can you check with another one?
Are you using verify option in burner software?

Hi Guys and Gals, I'm a new guy here so please be patient.
Like many others I seem to have an Audio CD burning issue.
I have a new HP g6 laptop with windows 8 and wish to create audio cd' of my old cassette tapes, I can create the CD having extracted the files I want using Audacity Software, The created CD runs fine on this laptop and even my very old Contessa PC Windows 98 OS but they will not run on my HIFi / Music Center. I have used Windows Media Player, Cyberlink and Torch to no avail. tried burning at slowest speed, still no luck.
(Running low on discs now)
The CD's are the same as I used on XP and on '98 which used the Sonic RecordNow burner and the CD's created all work on any CD player.
I would be very grateful for any useful guidance.
Thank you.

A:Audio CD burning ?

Please help me as I cannot burn any audio. My OS is XP. The programme used for the burn is "Record Now" but thats irrelevant because I now cannot use any other burn programme ie. Nero or Windows Media Player. What happens is that it starts converting and when the time comes for the burn it proceeds to 5% and then closes the disk. I replaced the drive (thinking it was a drive problem) still the problem persisted. I then did a full scrub of master and slave HDD thinking it was a virus. This fixed the problem short term. Three months later the problem arises again. Before I do a full scrub again, I wanted to know whether anybody else has run accross this problem. For extra information I can still burn DVD with full audio, pictures any other documentation just not audio. and for those who think its a licencing problem, there are no licenses on the music I am burning, just band stuff.
