Q: Keeps crashing!! - Only 2 months old.

Hello all. I have recently bought this laptop in February. In the past week it has decided to start crashing on me.... I am not using strenuous software, only youtube, microsoft word and google chrome. It happens very randomly, the screen will freeze on the current page and then a buzzing noise for 10 seconds will follow. The noise will stop but the screen continues to stay frozen... Only resolved by holding the power button down as both mouse and keyboard are frozen/inactive. I have searched for solutions.... updating drivers.... reinstalling drivers.... scanning for viruses.... however nothing has come up or resolved this.I am in desperate need of the laptop at the moment due to University deadlines, however the freezing continues to hamper my progress, whilst losing work between saves. Any solutions would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! P.S. I do have the HP 1 Year warranty? Aswell as a John Lewis 7 Year warranty.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've made multiple threads on Reddit, Tomshardware and 4chan and no one has been able to solve my issue.
In January 2015 I decided to upgrade my CPU and Motherboard so I took my PC to a local shop and had them do the upgrade. As I was moving from an AMD CPU to an Intel one they re-installed my OS as well and made sure all the drivers were up-to date. I took the PC home and started using it by day and leaving it on by night to torrent. Every morning I'd find that the PC had restarted over-night as it had crashed. After a week or so it would hang and then crash every day with error code 0x000000F4.

I took it back to the shop and left it with them for a week, they were never able to make it crash. I took it back home and it crashed straight away. I asked them to replace the motherboard and CPU and test it so they kept it for another 3 weeks. I took it home again and it crashed straight away.

At this moment all I had plugged in was a keyboard, mouse, screen and Ethernet cable. I took out the Ethernet cable, switched the mouse and keyboard and it still crashed. I plugged the PC into my TV instead and i... Read more

This thread is a follow up to a previous thread I posted awhile back. You can see it here:

5 BSOD's in one day with Windows 64 bit (Rebooted from bugcheck) - Windows 7 Forums

Essentially I did a bit of driver updating and it got better for awhile...oh 5 days. I installed Call of Duty 4 and have been playing it and have been getting freezing while playing the game. Windows has told me that my video driver has caused 2 confirmed crashes but there might be more going on. That's what I'm here to find out

I don't know if that relates to anything but my audio studders a bit as well. Here's the sound card I purchased:

I really need help here. This thing has been blue screening for 11 months now almost non stop and I need to get to the bottom of this problem. I'm about ready to ditch my ATI 5850 and jump to an NVidia 465 or 470.

I've attached my system health report. Any help would be killer. Thanks in advance everyone.

A:Crashing Every Day...Had Instability for 11 months.

I looked at your latest three dumps; all three indicate memory corruption. Outdated drivers can and do cause memory corruption and BSOD's. You have some outdated drivers loaded on your system. Update or eliminate these drivers.

Quote:
adfs.SYS Thu Jun 26 16:52:37 2008 - Adobe File System Driver, Adobe. This driver is a known cause of BSOD's. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, locate this driver and rename it from .sys to .old, reboot and the driver will not load. This will break whatever Adobe program the driver is associated with. Uninstall that program and install an updated version.

iaStorV.sys Wed Apr 08 12:57:17 2009 - Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver (base). http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx. Update this driver.

wacommousefilter.sys Fri Feb 16 13:12:17 2007 - Wacom(tablet) Mouse Filter. Wacom Hardware Drivers. This is an XP driver. Update it If there is no update available, rename it. This will break whatever software or hardware

Take care of these three drivers, reboot ans let's see how your system does. Update us and let us know. If you get another BSOD, upload it and we will go from there.

Let me give you guys the jist of the situation.
About 3 years ago, I built my first custom pc, here's the build

Anyways, about 3-4 months ago, my computer randomly crashed, but it was weird, it literally just powered itself off when I was gaming. And restarted itself, no error message just restarted. I was really confused but left it alone. A week later same thing happens, and then it just kept happening a lot more consitently. Ok so I thought hey maybe its the temperature and its overheating. I download a fan speed checker and a temperature checker for all the parts. Fans looked fine, but I noticed the cpu temperature was wayyyy above normal around 80 degrees celcius, and I believe for the cpu I have, it should be around 50~. So I opened up the computer and cleared out dust did everything I could that I found online. 30 minutes later, same exact thing happens, temperature is really high. So I searched around and found that a cause could be voltage and I check voltages and they were actually double the normal or expected amount. So the suggested fix was check something in the bios and make sure it is capped?  I dont remember exactly what it said this being a few months ago. But When I load up the comp the keyboard doesnt turn on fast enough to access bios, and when I try to use the restart on windows 8 home screen to access bios the entire computer just freezes which seems to be a separate issue on its ... I've tried so hard to figure this problem out and spent $$$ along the way. I really have no idea what to do at this point. I need someone who is willing to stick with me and try to track down the problem. I cannot offer a whole lot as far as what causes the crash. It can happen at any time whether I'm using the machine or not. Sometimes it goes to BSOD but most of the time it just locks up. Rarely it will simply shut down and reboot. I'm pasting in one of the reports I got from Who Crashed. Maybe this will help. I keep drivers up to date. I've tested my HD's. Windows is up to date. I've run Mbytes. I've been on with "Contact Support" with Windows. I work all day every day on this machine and it's crippling me to have to keep redoing my work whenever it crashes. I've also attached the DM LOG COLLECTOR results.

Based on the age of your motherboard, it may not be able to handle an SSD. In my experience, any BIOS version older than 2011 will likely have compatibility issues with an SSD.
Analysis:It is difficult to find patterns with only one .dmp file. Please refrain from using CCleaner to clean the disk as it deletes the .dmps we need for analysis. Your .dmp was inconclusive and may indicate a hardware issue, driver issue, service/startup conflict, BIOS issue, or compatibility issue. I am leaning toward the last two on the list given the SSD.

I update and save quite a few files each day, and I can see in File History that there are many saved versions for these files.
This would fill up my backup drive fairly quickly, and therefore, I need to reduce 'Keep saved versions' from the default of 'forever' to about 3 months.  But does this mean that all files older than 3 months will be deleted my File History backup?
What happens to all my files that have only ever been saved once, but are older than 3 months?  Are these retained in File History or deleted?
The forums on File History do no make this very clear.

Hi there. I am writing a post here because I am really mad. Few months ago I have bought my lenovo y50-70 4gb ram gtx960M and the problem occurs until today. The problem is, when I start to play "heavy" games ( like gta 5 or cs; go, lmao) this wonderlaptop crashes. Every time I launch a game, this lapop crashes. I can play 30 mins or 2 seconds but It ALWAYS CRASHES. Firstly, It said that nvidia driver stop responding bla bla bla. So I was searching solution in Internet. They told me to reinstall graphic drivers etc. Ok I did it. Guess what? Crash? Of course it crashes. I was very upset so I decided to update my windows. From W7 64b to W10 64b. Guess what? Ye ye, it still crashes. I turned on V-sync and It helps. Rly. Now i do not receive this annoying statement with "nvidia display stop responding bla bla bla" Now it only crashes without any errors. Sometimes with blue screen but rly rare (thx). Sound loops, image stops, and system crashes. I tried every driver, beta driver, hotfix driver, latest driver, non latest driver. JUST EVERY DRIVER. It doesnt help. I hope u will.Regards! @edit. All temps are fine. Idle 45-50 C  stress 55-65.

A:Lenovo y50-70, crashing, crashing, crashing, crash...

I had the same issue. It would crash with every game where nvidia card was used instead of intel. I tried various nvidia drivers but it didn't help. However I tried a really old driver 347.66 (not sure about the numbers after the ' . ') and it worked like a charm! No more crashes and the laptop is stable even after hours of gaming. After that I have never updated the nvidia drivers

It takes literally like 10 minutes until the browser re-activates and then I am able to use ctrl alt delete and end it. Then, I go to restart the browser and it doesn't pop up. I constantly double click it and then it decides to work a few minutes later, resulting in multiple browsers to launch at the same time.

Sometimes when I'm not so lucky, the browser freezes and after a while THE ENTIRE COMPUTER freezes and I have no choice but to hold the button to restart it.
I restarted it in safe mode and it works completely fine after that.

Hello Forum,

I have the following issues -

1. First received the message on the computer from MS informing that we had an error - went to view details it said that we had a Error 1033. I went and pushed the button to get MS to fix this issue - but continually receive the message that I have the same problem.

2. The time that I rebooted - I noticed in place of the CPU gadgets that i have on my desktop that all MS gadgets had crashed. Again a fix did not work.

3. Internet Explorer is not working and the tabs keep crashing.

I did go onto the MS webpage and ran SFC and posting the pics from the results. I am unsure as to what other information or where to go to try and fix this issue.

I have tried everything prior to posting. I am not sure if any snips from Event Viewer may assist.

Thank you

A:down for months

I know, being patient is one of the rules, so I apologize in advance. Maybe the title I chose, "down for months" gives the impression that I'm not too interested in resolving this issue - I don't know. I am very interested in getting help with this. I realize this is free voluntary help, and I appreciate that. I noticed that I've had 28 or 29 views, but no one has replied. I'm honestly not trying to seem impatient. Just curious that's all. I have no idea what's wrong with this computer, or how to read that DDS log. My concern is that, since there have been 29 views, I'm assuming those who do know how to read that log have looked at it and decided not to get involved, for whatever reason. If someone who reads the log and doesn't want to help could just leave me a reply saying, "You're screwed - your computer is now an anchor" that would be very much appreciated also.

Thanks again and sorry if I seem impatient. I'm not . . . much

Site looks great... But, when you put in OT at work and have a new born at home it's hard to visit your favorite forum.... I had a quicky for the group to help solve - a 3 parter.

1st part - create a user form to display xml data - what is the vba code to display an xml node in a user form text box.

2nd part - create a macro that when run captures the hilighted words in the current PPT slide then displays it in the VBA userform textbox.

3rd part - on the same userform create a button and code that when clicked will add the text from the "selected text" field then add it to the XML doc.

thanks in advance for the input,

Hi, I have windows Vista Home premium 32 bit OS installed on my computer. For the past week or so, my computer has been acting really weird and running extremely slow. Firefox won't load some pages. Most sites that equire secure sign-ins take ages. Like ebay, and online bankings, HSBC etc. and then for some reason my browser goes offline out of the blue, tells me that I can't browse because the browser is working offline (happens a lot more on IE than Fiefox though, but it does happen on both).

Also sometimes firefox shuts down on its own, without any warning or an error message, when I download something, clicking on the recently downloaded programme doesn't open it, when I right click and then open the folder containing the downloaded item, even the folder doesn't open and when I try to manually open the "download" folder or sometimes even when I try to open control panel, I get a message windows explorer has stopped working and is restarting, sometimes not even the message and windows explorer just crashes on it's own without any error.

I've tried using google chome, but sometimes it just won't load pages. I click on the plus tab, and type the adress some it would load, but some it won't no matter what. the page stays blank which is weid because I've used Chrome before and when you open a new tab the page is never blank, instead it shows your previously opened pages or the history (unless you specifically tell chrom... Presently, I’m having an issue with Chrome not loading specific content on Aweber.com, and when that same content is sometimes loaded from Firefox, it crashes both itself and Chrome, and sometimes, other programs.

This error also will occur sometimes if I launch Steam (SteamPowered.com) while running Chrome. Chrome will crash, as well as the Steam client. (I can only assume this is because they’re sharing something, but I don’t know what.) I know that Steam uses a type of browser internal to it so you can browse the store, interact with other users, etc.

Here’s what occurs most often, and how I can generally duplicate it.

If I go into Chrome and try to compose a new email in Aweber, it just says “Loading” and does nothing. I think this uses Flash, judging from the source code on the page. Doing this same activity in Firefox will, more often than not, crash Firefox, Chrome, and sometimes “unrelated” applications such as Spotify and Notepad++, which occurred the other day. They literally start crashing one after another, in some sort of chain reaction. Apps running in the tray (Evernote, Google Drive, etc.) are unaffected.

Sometimes, in Firefox, the ability to compose a new email in Aweber comes up and works flawlessly. I notice I have the most success with this after rebooting, and going right into Firefox without letting the computer run for some time.

You’re experiencing Chrome crashes due to conflicts between browser installed modules. Run the browser without loading any add-ons, disable the sandbox feature, reset your DNS settings and so on. I’m sure this will fix up Chrome crashes.

Clear Cache Contents and Temp Files:
1. Click Wrench, select Tools | Clear browsing data.
2. A new page would open.
3. Choose “The beginning of time” from the drop down control.
4. Make sure that all checkboxes are checked-up.
5. Click “Clear browsing data” button.

Remove Corrupt User Profile Data Files:
1. Exit Google Chrome.
2. Double click My Computer desktop icon.
3. Open below directory:
C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
4. Remove all contents from the “Default” folder.

Okay, so, my story is this...
I have been experiencing random computer crashes on my Laptop. I will list the specifications of this laptop in a moment. The crashes come with NO BSOD or any form of minidump or recording of what caused them...
It will sometimes crash at an insanely random time when almost nothing is running, but most of the time it will crash after I have just clicked play on a video, on the internet. (usually YahooNews or LEOAffairs.com)

Now, before you go crazy and start saying, "well update your Flash Player!!" ..I will have you know that I fully uninstalled the entirety of Adobe Flash, using the standalone Uninstaller, and deleted all remaining files, by following this guide made by Adobe staff... https://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315 and then installed the most recent version, and it still Crashed!

I have also run a Driver Verifier, by following this guide here: How to determine which driver causes Windows to crash ? :: SG FAQ
Using a BSOD viewer there nothing was revealed that I could easily tell what the issue was, or what needed to be changed to stop my issue.

Being that this issue is not easily re-creatable I will keep this thread updated as often as I can, after some people have put down some suggestions on how to fix this.

I will also attach the Crash Dump Text File of the BSOD (DRIVER_VERIFIER_IOMANAGER_VIOLATION) that occurred after I had run the Driver Verifier. I will also include the .dmp file (inside the ZIP), inca... Read more

So, basically it goes like this:
-Click play on video.
-Laptop crashes with no BSOD or Error/Bug Report.
-Laptop reboots.
^^ This goes on for longer than just today..
-I run the uninstaller to clean out Flash
-I delete extra files left over after the uninstall.
-I reinstall Flash using the latest version, hoping it will stop. (it didnt)
-Laptop crashes + reboots again.
-I run the Driver Verifier program, which is built into windows.
-BSOD pops up on restart.
-I shut down and run computer in safe mode.
-Delete all settings associated with Driver Verifier, and then I post the Help thread here.

About 6 months ago I was infected w Trojan/Vundo and the BC gang helped me get back on my feet. I ran ComboFix, use Ad-Aware, AVG, Malwarebytes, Spybot, Spyware Blaster.

I enjoyed 6 worry-free months and now I'm stuck again. Windows will not complete loading--freezes. I tried to use my windows recovery in safe mode and clicking "next" prompts no further action after I've chosen a previous date. I have done a HJT log in safe mode only.

Symptoms when windows was working still:

Google results were links to other ad sites.
IE would not allow me to go to BC.com and other helpful forums but would allow me to go to youtube, google, yahoo, etc.
Updating Ad-Aware, Spybot, and AVG was not allowed.
Malwarebytes would no longer load (would show to load in the Task Manager but nothing further.)

So I feel frustrated because I can't use any malware/virus programs to clean. And I can't load windows in anything but safe mode.

Any advice would be extremely appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Good afternoon

As the title says, I have been getting BSOD for nearly 2 months and I have tried almost everything to fix it as follows:

- I have reinstalled windows 7 and formatted my harddrive
- Sent the pc to an IT expert for 3 days where he performed all sorts of diagnostics and found nothing to be wrong with it
- Sent it to 2 other IT experts and specifically explained to them that they need to use the pc and make sure to turn it off and on about 3 times before the bsod happens again (which they did do) yet the bsod never happens at any one else's house/workplace (perhaps I have a problem with my actual power supply socket at my room??)
- I have made sure all drivers are up to date
- I have run the command prompt "chkdsk" and it found no problems
- I have turned on the pc in safe mode (making sure to do this on the 2nd or 3rd time using it so as to expect a bsod) and the bsod still happens
- I have turned on the pc with only the essentials (monitor, mouse and keyboard) and it still crashes
- The person I sent it to said that there are no problems with the harddrive, motherboard or RAM and CPU (although I am not sure what to believe anymore)
- I have run a registry cleaner using CCleaner and it still crashed

Please help me, I am not sure what else I can try without throwing the pc in the bin. I'v attached the zipped file with all the info from the sf diagnostic tool hopefully you can help me

Hello Tony & welcome,
If you are getting BSOD's & want them analyzed please follow the directions below -

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
** Until a .dmp file is generated, the Minidump folder may not exist.**

*Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl Press Enter.
*Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
*Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
*Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kb) in the drop down box (the 256kb varies).
*Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
*OK.
Reboot if changes have been made.

Okay. I just did the whole reply with HJT logs and do combofix like a billion times over at GeeksToGo. All the malware/spyware was removed (apparently) from my system. Now, I've been scanning my system weekly with AVG8 and Spybot, but I seem to be missing this trojan thats affecting things on my system.

I CANNOT RUN HIJACKTHIS. It wont let me. I uninstalled, reinstalled, did it 3 times. Cant run it. Wtf? =( The trojan must be pretty serious for it to block a program from me using.

I honestly do not know what to post here because I cannot run Hijackthis. I'm running WinXP 32bit SP3, on a Q6600 quad core at 2.4ghz, 2ghz DDR2 ram, and I need help ridding this spyware from my system. I would attempt combofix and kaspersky myself, but I dont know the scripts for CF and I figure the infection would just outsmart me anyways.

I need some advice on what I can do first, as I have no logs or anything to post here so far. I can list the symptoms aswell.

Symptoms:
Google searches are redirecting me and opening new tab windows, sometimes directing me to a completely different site then what I was searching for.
Certain sites say I have been infected by a trojan which is DOS attacking them when I try to connect to their servers.
MSN Hotmail isnt able to open whatsoever. I have to go through mail.live.ca to get to my inbox. Buttons on msn arent working??
I do my fairshare of downloading, and certain sites wont even let me connect anymore, even though I am able to connect on this network ... Read more

Never thought too much about it until reading some threads here. My Disk Defrag was set to once a week which I think is default. AFAICT my disks have always been 0% fragmented.

I don't think it is defragging them to get them to 0, they are not fragmented to any degree, according to Windows.

I decided to change the schedule to once a month based on some comments that defragging too often can be bad. So after eight days I analyzed C: and it still says 0%.

The computer is 7 months old, has 70GB of data and has had a lot of things moved in and out. Shouldn't there be some fragmentation at this point?

I previoulsy used Auslogics on a different computer and understand Windows may not find as many fragments as Auslogics or others.

I just wonder if it's really possible to be 0% fragmented for so long?

A:0% fragmented, for seven months

Did you run Analyze Disk?
You have to run Analyze Disk to get the new fragmentation after each defragmentation.

Hi guys,
Yesterday I finally, after doing a lot of reading about this imaging, decided to go for it, with this macrium reflect.
But as soon as I opened the program (macrium) it offered me to create some disk (recovery disk?) which I accepted of course.
When it came to insert the CD which I did, this message popped up that the CD has to be erasable. It was a CD-R
Now I wonder, since it will be my first imaging (I should take a complete one) if one CD will be enough and what kind of CD should it be. A CD-RW??
Will this OS partition (Windows 7 professional) with a couple of programs installed, fit on a CD?? Should n't I use a DVD instead?? Maybe a couple of DVD's?? If so should it be DVD-RW
If it matters, my ODD is a DVD burner blue ray.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Macrium isn't going to image your HDD to the CD, it wants to create a one time recovery disc, that you can use to boot to, to run Macrium should you not be able to enter the windows environment, or prefer to boot from the disc to recover from a saved image. This is just creating a boot disc that will allow you to boot from the CD to run Macrium should you need to/desire. Go ahead and burn the disc, and boot from it to see how it works. You can then use Macrium to make an image of your hard drive. This will be on a 2nd HDD, internal or external, preferably. Backing up to CD's or DVD's would take many discs, and it... Read more

Hi,

I have a computer since 2 years. It is an assembled Intel Celeron D345, 3066 MHZ.
My CPU fan starts creating noise almost every 2 months. The first fan lasted around 10 months but over the last year I have been changing a fan every couple of months. Noise starts, then temperature going above 70 C. At one instance the computer was shutting down due to overheating.

The noise completely disappears after I replace the FAN but for two months.

Can you please tell me how can I resolve this problem for good. The FAN type I get is the only one available in the market.

A:CPU Fan dying every 2 months

I agree with Zenosincks that the fan you are using must be garbage. Most replacement fans are, unless they are ball bearing

3 solutions.

1. Buy from the CPU Manufacturer one of their heatsink/fan combos. This will usually last from 1-2 years.

2. Buy a 3rd party fan solution such as Thermaltake or Zalman. I use a ZeroTherm Silent UFO cooler which pushes 42.8 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air through the case on and yet only runs an average of 19 Db, so it is extremly quiet. I have been using this on my homebrew machine for a couple of months now and it is a joy not to hear the fan.

3. On my homebrew gaming machine, I use a vapor phase exchange cooling system to the CPU and GPU. Although I built this myself, there are such packages on the market. They are also known as compressor cooling systems. You can also look for water cooling systems by Zalman Thermaltake or Koolance. Koolance in particular makes a nice system that mounts on the top of the tower, with all the controls at your fingertips.

Tried to use one stick of ram = Worked for almost 1 day.
Swap the sticks of ram in the slots = Worked for 1 month (wtf happened there)
Ran driver verifier = got a blue screen with rdyboost.sys as the error.
Install all the drivers and make updates (Bios, chipset)
I've BSOD while writing this, the error flagged was rdyboost.sys, I think it's the error, but don't know how to delete or deactivate this thing..
Thanks in advice.

Forgot to add : I have this PC since 2 years.

I don't have time to look through all of those mini-dumps but the latest ones I have looked at don't seem to be pointing to anything in particular. This might indicate a hardware problem or a buggy/out-of-date driver.

You have some old drivers you should consider updating to Windows 8 64bit versions or un-installing/removing if un-needed:

AtiPcie.sys - ATI PCIE Driver for ATI PCIE chipset or ATI PCI Express (3GIO) Filter Found in my ATI video drivers (I have an Intel chipset) (2009): Driver Reference Table
AsIO.sys - Asus PCProbe Utility: Driver Reference Table (please un-install this and anything related to ASUS Utilities Suite, known BSOD creator)
ASACPI.sys - Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility. Also a part of many Asus utilities: Driver Reference Table (please un-install this, known BSOD creator)
LGBusEnum.sys - Logitech Keyboard: Driver Reference Table
netr73.sys - D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122 Wireless USB Adapter(rev.C) ** DISCONTINUED **: Driver Reference Table

Please update your AMD chipset drivers:

AMD Chipset Drivers

Remove the drivers related to BSODs above using control panel/un-install.

Update your Logitech Keyboard driver: Keyboards

Not sure about the D-Link Airplus Wireless USB Adapter, there doesn't seem to be a Windows 8 64bit driver for it. It's quite an old piece of gear so I recommend not using it in Windows 8. I recommend un-installing the driver via control panel if possible or disabling it by going into: c:\windows\system32\drivers and renaming the driver to ... Read more

Hello everyone, I have looked around everywhere to try to sort my problems out but I've had no luck. Now I've decided to bite the bullet and ask for help. I had a computer built about 3 months ago. Everything was fine at first, then I started to get BSOD.

First the errors were due to 'a clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor' but now they are going into a more serious 'uncorrectable hardware error'. I'm after potentially pinning down the dodgey component and sending it back, or fixing it - and I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to help. I'll try to provide as much info as I can:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1

Two months ago, I got many BSOD's, and with the help of this forum, the problems were resolved.
Since then, I have not encountered any problems.
Until today. Got a BSOD with a message Bad_Pool_Header
I have not installed any drivers or any software lately. So I do not have a hint what could cause the BSOD.

Here is the result of SF Tools:

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:

There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard! I STRONGLY suggest not using controller drivers older than mid-2012 with SSD's.
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.
- Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.

One of my friends is having problems with monitors....

Apparently, the computer in question has went through 3 monitors and on its 4th one now, since May....

Anyone have any idea as to what would cause this?

All of the monitors haven't been brand new, but have not been used much either.

I instantly assumed a power issue... for the following reasons:

1.) He lives in very small area with very low quality power lines anyway

2.) The area we live in is known to have lots of power issues

3.) I took a look at the machine... when it first comes on, the power supply sounds like it buzzes, but then quits by the time it gets into windows..... this doesn't happen everytime, but sometimes.

The power supply is a 250 watt atx power supply.

Seems you've got back sticks of RAM, just buy new RAM and it'll be fine
Test each stick separately to identify the defective one(s)

Every few months one of PCs at my home is really unstable. That PC is a 'spare' machine, so that wasn't a big problem. But it's really irritable because I have to set off power supply for a couple of minutes and hope it'll work stable again for next few months or so.

Could somebody check my 2 newest minidumps and analyze it? Yesterday I installed the drivers for gpu. Sadly, today saw BSOD again.

OS: Windows 8, but earlier on Windows 7 also was the same problem.
Problem: various BSOD every few months.

My machine:
- mobo: Asus P5Q Deluxe (bios version: 2301);
- CPU: E8500 (never overlocked);
- GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4650 (sapphire version with heatpipes, GPU temperature from gpu-z: ~37-38C, I don't play any games);
- RAM: 2x2GB, corsair dominator PC2-8500 (tested also with some Kingston 2x2GB sticks);
- power supply: 550W (bequiet darkpower pro);
- antivirus: Avast;

The first signs of instability: firefox crashes, then later (sometimes) Visual Studio crashes.
This time the crashes started when PC was running more than a day doing some calculations. As always, Firefox crashed first.

BSODs on Windows 8:
DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
and one more BSOD, but I didn't write it down.

Earlier on Windows 7:
error codes:
1A - memory_management
3B - system_service_exception
D2,
24,
1 - apc_index_mismatch

Errors 0x1 & 0x3b often showed when Visual Studio was running.

As the subject line implies, I've now had 2 HD crashes in 4 months. I'm running a Lenovo PC with SATA drives. Here's the thing...both times it was my secondary drive. The original drive is fine...so far.

The first time this happened, I had 3 drives hooked up. My C drive, a 2nd drive connected to the SATA connection on the MB, and then I had an external drive enclosure (USB). First, the drive in that enclosure stopped. The bios could find no sign of it, even when I connected it directly to the MB. It will spin for a few seconds and then stop.

The second time this happened (today), the drive was my 1T Seagate that is relatively new. I had earlier performed a Photoshop batch script that adjusted about 700 photos on that drive. All went well. And hour later, I got a BSOD. I allowed Windows to perform the startup thing (I forget exactly what it said) and it couldn't because it could not access the drive. Every time I would try to start the PC, it would go BSOD. Until I disconnected that 2nd drive. Then the PC started right up...no problems. Tried connecting the 2nd drive again and it can't see it. The drive spins up but can't be found.

So my question is, could the onboard controller, or something else (power supply?) be causing this or is it simply a coincidence that I've lost 2 drives in 4 months. I don't think I've lost 2 drives in the previous 10 years

Ideas? Thanks in advance....

My sons sister in-law took her laptop back to the store she bought it from for repair. They said the HDD was bad. The first replacement drive they installed didn't work. They tried another and it worked.....for a while. She has brought it to me out of frustration and it looks like the drive is bad!

It is an Acer laptop. The first time I looked at it the BIOS did not have an HDD listed. I tried Alt-F10 at boot and then the BIOS started to see the drive. When Windows tries to start it says the C: drive needs to be checked and it begins CHKDSK. It fails with "An unspecified error occurred (............ dee).

Could this be a motherboard failure rather than the HDD? 3 drives failing in the space of a few months seems suspicious to me.

Thanks

This is a problem with my computer crashing when playin games

ok i had a friend build me a custom made computer....and he loaded windows ME on it. I realized this OS was crap so i upgraded to windows XP at a friends lan. This is where all the trouble began. So i loaded my favorite game (counter-strike) on my new XP operating system and after 2 minutes of playin it would crash wit an error note. I tried and tried playing again but still had errors after 2-5 minutes of playing.

Next i decided to clear out XP and go to 2k pro......still same crashing problem while playin games.

Next i went back to ME thinking all would be better if i went back to when it worked fine. NO still same problem

Then one day i bump computer and it shuts off and from then on my computer shuts off with even the slightest touch. So i take it to the local computer store and the guy tells me the mobo wasnt properly screwed in and connected or something like that and says that this was probably the reason why my computer crashes while playing game.------- well it fixed the nudging and turning off problem but games still crash!

I Reformatted wit various OS's time and time and stil had problem.
So finally i thought well it could be a ram issue. So a friend let me borrow a stick of 256 pc3500 mushkin ram.

YES YES it worked fine for 2 whole days of use........and wit 2 long days of gaming... Read more

Hey, so my computer has been BSODing for about 2 months now and I can't figure out why. The Blue Screen View always displays ntkrnlpa.exe as one of the crash addresses but even after research, I can't figure out what to do or exactly what is causing it, as I know that's a Windows kernel. I don't really know what changed back when it started or what drivers were installed at that time. I originally thought it was an external harddrive I got around that time but I think I bought that after the problems started and I've now noticed that the computer crashes even when the HD's not plugged in. Hey guys, about 2 months ago my 30" dell lcd went, video card and mobo ( replaced it all except the 30" dell which im still trying to fix) today my 20" dell went, is this is just a coincident or could there be something else im not considering, possibly a faulty APC battery backup, or maybe something in my computer that's causing this.

thanks.

A:2 DEAD LCD in 2 months!?!?!?!

This would be the time I'd start accusing poltergeists. I know they live in my home office and do all kinds of mischief at night while I'm asleep. They've only killed one Samsung LCD monitor here.

In the real world, it's likely a terrible coincidence. It's slightly possible that your APC unit allowed a nasty power glitch to pass in to these guys and kill them. That would be harder than winning the lottery. It's most likely you ended up with the statistical anomaly of two bad LCD monitors, along with that video card and motherboard.

Do you have a lot of power outages and glitches? Do you live in lightning alley or some area with lots of thunderstorms? I still remember the night when there was a thunderstorm here and I saw bolts of electricity flashing along the chain holding the ceiling fan in our bedroom. I fully expected to go downstairs and find our computers in a smoldering pile on the floor. Nothing - fully protected by APC UPS units! Then there was the time at work when a guy hit a power pole with his car down the street and caused a 27,000 volt line to fall on the 600 volt line feeding the building where I work. There were two washing machine sized APC UPS units in the lab - they both were fried and took some PCs with them.

I know this may not help much, but you may have enjoyed reading it.

Bye.

I am about to change the MB battery for the third time. I'm pretty sure its drained again as if I switch off the mains power to the unit overnight, the system reports checksum error on start up and loads bios defaults. System calendar reverts back to 31 Dec 2005, with duff clock time

If I leave the PC turned off but connected to power socket, everything is fine for the next start up

I have a foxconn 975 MB. Any ideas what could be causing the batteries to drain so soon - should last several years

Since about May I have been having problems with my Pc but had been finding ways for it to work somehow but today the same problem that has been going on for 3 months started again... I have a Pentium 4 Pc 1.6GHz 394mb Ram and have Windows Xp Pro installed...

The problem is that many times my computer crashes and runs into a blue screen that states that the file "sys32k.sys" has caused an error and the computer has been shut down... another blue screen that appears states that there is a "memory_management" problem and that the computer was shut down and a third blue scrren that appears says that there was a fatal error and that windows could not be started...

this last blue screen appears only whe starting up windows... and the first 2 while I am usually working or simply while on the desktop...

this is making me NUTS... literally...
I have the theory that my Hard Drive is the one with the problem because I have formatted the drive completely about 10 times and made a clean windows Xp again and the same problem appears or that my windows xp is faulty and doesn't install the file -->"sys32k.sys" correctly... I even changed the motherboard and tested it without the VideoCard I recently bought (which I taught was the original problem) but the same occurs..
