How To Print from XP Comp Wirelessly to Vista Comp Printer

Q: How To Print from XP Comp Wirelessly to Vista Comp Printer

I want to be able to print from my XP Computer to the Vista computer in the other room, wirelessly.

XP Home
Vista Home Premium
New, Shared Printer

Printer on the Vista computer is "shared"...I don't know anything about networks
I use control panel: "add a printer" -> "A network printer" -> "Browse for printers" -> it shows some sort of window with icons that don't really mean much to me:

One category is called "Workgroup" and when I click it, the Vista name of the computer in the other room shows up, but nothing happens when I double click that. I connected to a wireless printer a long time ago this way when one was connected to an XP computer, and the actual name of the printer would show up.

Does anyone know how to do it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I gave My Daughter an Epson r300 printer. The drivers were downloaded from Epson to Her HP computer with Vista Home. Suddenly it stopped working and the drivers had to be reinstalled again. This happened several times. Annoying to have to load the drivers each time you need to print something!
Suspect the updating process from MS but not sure. She needs some advice if available how to keep the drivers installed!
Also, is there a way to run XP programs, I believe it is compatability?
Thanks for any info.

Hi
I have just bought a new all-in-one printer, the Canon MP630 and need to connect it to my wireless network. I have a desktop and a laptop which both access the internet using a Netgear DG834GT with the wireless laptop and the Netgear USB adapter that came with it for the desktop. The new printer is in the same back room as the desktop but on the other side of the room. The laptop is used all over the house. The DG834GT is in the front room of the house as there is only one phone point coming in to the house. I may be getting a second printer in the future which I would also want to use wirelessly.

I need to be able to print wirelessly from both the desktop and the laptop and I think that I need a print server. I have looked online and there seems to be such a wide choice from mini ones to ones with switches(?) etc that I don't know what I am looking at.

Please can anyone help with some advice on what I need to do and a good model to buy? I am in the UK BTW. Many thanks.

Clare

I have two laptops, one running Windows 7 (32-bit) and one running Windows 7 (64-bit). I recently replaced my HP8600 as it finally died. Had no problems with it up to then. I bought a HP8610 and downloaded the latest Windows 7 64-bit drivers as the enclosed driver disk was only for 32-bit systems. I used the disk to load the 32-bit drivers in my 32-bit laptop. I can only get documents to print from EITHER laptop if they're sent from Word Perfect word processor. Anything else goes to the print queue which says it's printing, but nothing prints. The job in the print queue disappears as if it's done, but nothing prints. Scan doctor says there is nothing wrong with my setup on either computer, the printer recognizes my network and I can send an internal test print request, which it prints without problem, so I know it's communicating. My 8600 had no problems with my present setup. I have tried printing Web documents from Interet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Firefox, ensuring that the browser pointers were set to send print requests to my recognizd printer, and again, the job(s) show up in the print queue but do not print. And again, the jobs disappear after a few seconds as if they're finished, but nothing prints. I've tried 'CNTL-P' and 'CNTL-SHFT-P keyboard commands , no help there either I have deleted the drivers and reloaded them several times on both laptops and ensured that the old 8600 drvers were deleted as well, still no help. I will try to explain this best I can.

I have set up alot of small home networks and shared printers etc

These people have a netgear router and dsl have one desktop and two laptops. Here is the problem, the printer is hooked into the desktop and then shared with the laptops. It was all setup right cause they had a problems 3 or 4 months ago they couldn't get one laptop to print and I got it going for them, they have gone months of printing by haveing the printer plugged into the desktop and then shared with the laptops. the desktop is XP Home and the laptops are vista. BUT like I said they worked fine for months, they said they had a power outage and used a generator etc we had an ice storm around here and alot of people lost power. anyway now the laptops won't print wirelessly but they arre working wirelessly cause they can both get on the internet wirelessly. If you plug the printer into each laptop one at a time of course it will print wired but you plug it back into the desktop and it will print but then the laptops won't. I was trying to get around all the stuff like I no how to set up a network and have shared alot of printers beforre this has me stumped. the share name is the same, I deleted the printer software in one laptop and then put it back in, and it works wired but not wirelessly the other laptop I didn't do anything to and it will print wired but not wirelessly, Here is the thing they say nothing had been changed howerver there daughter l... Apologies if I am in the wrong forum for this question and if I am, could somebody direct me to the right one.

This question is two-fold and I'm hoping that somebody has experienced this problem before and knows exactly how to rectify it. If anyone can solve this for me or tell me where I am going wrong, I will bow before them and owe a great deal of gratitude for their knowledge. I have tried everything to get this to work.

My operating system is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

I recently bought a new laptop (not a Dell) and so wanted to link this up and synchronize it with my Dell 305w all in one Wireless printer so it prints and scans wirelessly.

I put in the CD that came with the printer and I downloaded the most recent driver (or so I thought).

Anyway, after all that was done it prints wirelessly no problem. The trouble came when I wanted to scan a document from the Dell Imaging Toolbox.

On my old laptop (that is a Dell) and my daughter's laptop (that is a Samsung,) this works wirelessly no problem at all from the Dell Imaging Toolbox. On this new laptop, it doesn't scan wirelessly although it does print wirelessly. Every time I tried, first a message came up giving me a choice of two printers to use yet only one is showing in Devices and Printers in the control panel. So I chose one. (This message never came up before on my other laptop and I never had a choice).

After choosing one, I then chose 'scan' and then 'start' from the Dell Imaging Toolbox... Read more

3. IE Spyad w/ Zoned Out
4. PC pitstop driver alert
5. Spyware Blaster
6. ATF Cleaner
7. PC Pitstop Driver Alert

Will these slow down my system, or make it take longer to shut down and restart my comp? Is there anything on this list that I should not have? If it's not a big deal, does anyone recommend any more apps I should download or things to do to make my system better?

If I install almost all of the reputable spyware removers and system optimizers, etc. on my comp, will it slow down my system? Will there be any negative consequences?

Right now I would opt for a faster computer over a secure one, so I would prefer speed over an increased possibility of a virus, etc (still want an anti-virus though). I'd like my comp to shut down and restart quickly, but of course it's not that big of a deal.

With that in mind...I was wondering what the computer "gurus" think is the best way I can optimize my computer? A:Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

As a rule, you use:
1 firewall
1 antivirus
* Norton is not the best program around, and it's a resource hog, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it until it expires.
* Using more then one of each is asking for problems (conflict).
As for antispyware programs, you can have as many, as you want, however, I wouldn't use more then 2 as startups, since you want fast computer.
Your computer specs look very good, but the lower number of startups, the better (this is another thing to check).
As for antispyware, I'd keep Spyware Blaster as a startup program, and I'd add a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
You may want to run others, you have once in a while, or when any problem arises.

In addition, you want to keep your computer clean of garbage, and for that purpose, you want to get CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com

Once a month, you want to run defrag. I recommend free jkDefrag: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ instead of Windows defrag.

That's about it. If you have more questions, please, ask.

The XP comp is called Qing, and can access the workgroup and log onto the linux server called Han (running Fedora 6 with Samba) . Once logged onto Han from Qing, I can see the shared folder, but when i try to access it I get the following message:

"\\Han\share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

On Han, the linux comp, I have set up a shared folder called "share" with full permissions.
I have enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP and rebooted and still no luck,
I have searched the internet and these forums for a similar problem but was unable to find anything that I could use.

I've got an annoying problem I'm trying to smooth out. On my 3-computer LAN, I've got network shares set up on all three comps. (Not homegroup; not public folders; those aren't workable for my situation.)

On my main work computer ("Comp A") (Win 7 Home Premium), whenever I open the sharelist on either "B" or "C", I have the extreme pleasure of waiting 8-10 seconds before the shares on the requested machine are presented.

Other than that, the shares work perfectly, except for the annoying delay every time I want to use Comp A to open the list of shares on Comp B or Comp C.

What I'm sharing: My user directory on each comp. (I'm the only user on this 3-node LAN.) Sharing with Homegroup or Public Folders isn't feasible.

When the delay happens: Courtesy of Wireshark, I've learned that when the delay occurs, it occurs after "Negotiate Protocol Response" and before "Session Setup Request".

I'm also getting the same delay behavior on one other computer (Comp C), but only when accessing the share list Comp A. Here's the specific run-down...

Computer A
Windows 7 Home Premium
Hard-Wired
8-second delay opening shares on Comp B and Comp C.
Computer B
Windows 7 Ultimate
Hard-wired
No delay opening shares on Comp A or Comp C
Computer C
Windows 7 Ultimate
Wi-fi
8-second delay opening shares on Comp A (Home Prem.) but *not* Comp B (Ult.)

My dad has expensive construction software that he needs on a day to day basis, but his laptop is dying and very slow. Currently his laptop runs Vista x86, and I wanted to give him my laptop that runs 7 x64. Could I swap the hard drives so that its an easy transition, or would that not work? Thanks for any input and suggestions.

A:Hard drive from one comp work in another comp like it did before?

"his laptop is dying and very slow"

that might mean his hard drive is bad, or that he has too many programs/malware installed, in which case you would not want to put his drive in your laptop.

But to answer your question, it depends on how different the chipset drivers are between the two machines. But if you have the win7 x64 install dvd, you should be able to do a repair install if windows is not able to boot after switching hard drives.

"Home not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."

What should I do?

A:Network Problem. New comp can't access old comp.

Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents:

------------------- Use text after this line -------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000
------------------- Use text before this line -----------------

Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question.

If that doesn't do it, let's follow these basic debug steps.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

PING each computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. You can obtain the IP address of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG. This should work for any Windows version. A failure here needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Check your Services are Started on all PCs: Workstation, DHCP Client, DNS Client, Server, TCP/IP Netbios helper, Computer Browser.

All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

I have a 32bit comp, W7 Ult, 1TB HD and I would like to clone that onto a comp that is a 64bit. HD is the same capacity, question is, can this process be done? Will the programs from the 32bit work in the 64bit comp.? I'm thinking of using Acronis True Image Home 2011.I was given a newer desktop minus the HD and was going to retire my old desktop and I wanted what was on the old comp(32bit) transfered to the new (64bit) tower. Thanx in advance for any advice.

A:Transferring Everything From 32bit comp To 64bit comp

You can't do it.
64-bit has to be a clean installation.
You can transfer your data, but all programs have to be reinstalled.

Well this is my first post. I am a fledgling hobbyist at this computer thing and I got this lil comp from my friend for free. It was working great and I was really enjoying checking emails and listening to music on it while browsing the webernet. Two days ago I encountered a virus on the comp while installing some pirated (eeek) software. Needless to say I got my due! The comp rebooted... or I rebooted -I am still hazy on it- and I could not find my taskbar and it looked like half of my desktop icons had been moved down the screen. I tried to move them but nothing worked and I also tried to recover the taskbar using ctrl-esc. Anyway I found your website and someone suggested using DR Web and AVG spyware as well as Smitfraudfix I did all of this and still nothing has changed. There was also a suggestion to use hijakthis so this is the point I am at now. Have read tons of stuff on the net, lots of people with the same problem. My latest issue was the access denied message when I typed in what I think was the correct path. Any suggestions? When I download my p3150 lexmark....download says 3100, it causes all kinds of probs with comp., sometimes it disappears even. Anyway, I found a site at lexmark about them and windows xp, they have a driver download there, for my printer, I am downloading it now, and they aslo have under utilities a download. I had to reinstall windows xp after last try with printer. My question is, since I don't have printer hooked up or software downloaded, is it ok to download the driver update, and the utility and then hook up printer? And do I still download the software that came with it, or is that what I am downloading when I download driver update? please help
Thank you Very much

I have an HP laserjet 8150DN printer from my office that works fine and would like to use it with my home computer. All of the printers at work are connected by network and therefore do not have proper cables for it( seem's to be smaller than any IEEE - 1284 parallel cable I can find at our computer store). It has an HP jetdirect port on it, so is there any way to connect it to my computer through my router? If not, is there anything else I could try?

A:can I connect printer through router to comp.?

All you need is a USB printer cable if you want to install it directly to the computer. Otherwise you connect it to the router, give it an IP address (or take note of the hostname of the printer) and install it as a network printer.

I've had problems with my wireless printer going "offline" a lot and its one of the most frustrating situations when you go to hit print and theres a 35% chance it will be offline.

Now I tried to "Add a new printer" and for some reason after trying time after time my computer is not discovering my wireless printer any more?

My printer sucessfully pairs up with my router every time I try to go through the wireless setup wizard.

I've restarted/unplugged the printer time & time again & also restarted the computer.

Anyone have an idea how to get my computer to see this printer again & KEEP it online?

Thanks.

A:Comp doesnt see wireless printer anymore?

No.
I have been struggling with this issue for a while now. I have an Epson all-in-one that is connected to my network wirelessly and to my main pc by usb. After a period of time the printer goes into a low power "standby mode". Separately, after a period of time the printer drops off the network (can't be pinged by any computer, can't be accessed for printing wirelessly). The printer works, in any mode, by usb always.

I originally thought that the "standby mode" triggered the drop off. After much trial and error testing I no longer think that.

I have been in contact with both Epson and TrendNet (the manufacturer of my router). Epson says the issue lies with my router, Trendnet says it lies with the printer. I have done too many settings changes to possibly remember them all.

Long story short: I now believe there is no issue with the printer. Even in standby mode it sends a wireless signal and it's IP is seen by the router. I believe the issue lies with the TrendNet TEW-691GR router. There must be some timeout threshold being met that causes the router to drop the printer off the active list of connections.

The clunky solution is always to either turn off and back on the printer, or to reset the router. But I am sure you, like me, want a more elegant solution. Let me know if you find one.

I have tried:
giving the printer a fixed IP at the printer level
giving the printer a fixed IP at the router level
Upgrading the router's firmware
Changing the beaco... Read more

A:911!!!! Comp not recognizing printer hp psc 1209 all-in-one i need help asap!

There could be some hardware damage as a result of the power surge/outage. That sort of thing is never good for electronics.

Try running chkdsk /f on the drive at least. Hard shutdowns always lead to file system damage.

How do things look in Device Manager? Are there any red or yellow warnings?

Hello there, I recently upgraded my comp by replacing mobo, graphics, ram, cpu
pretty much the lot except for my hdd and cd drive.
the problem is now it wont boot and keeps restarting, it gets to the windows logo and then goes to a blue screen for half a sec then restarts. i have windows 7 and even the repair tool doesnt help with the problem.
ether my hdd has had it (i have had it for a while now) or there is a issue with my new ram?
could this be a compatability issue or a fault?

i have tried the windows 7 repair tool but comes up saying cant fix problems. tried restarting from a earlier time, and iv also tried to boot from the windows 7 disk but it just freezes so i can boot or install.

can anyone help me try and get this new beast of a comp up and running ???

A:Upgraded comp but now comp keeps restarting

First you need to turn off automatic restart. Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced System settings, Start Up and Recovery, settings and un-check automatically restart
