Old NEC Monitor On-Board - Screen Res Is Too Small

Q: Old NEC Monitor On-Board - Screen Res Is Too Small

I have a fairly old monitor (NEC MultiSync 75) that always works with video cards but never works properly when I have it on-board.

The screen resolution is set at 640x480 and the color quality is set at 16 bit, and I cannot change these options. In the device manager, I don't even have a monitor tab, however I do have 2 sub-tabs under Other Devices titled SM Bus Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible).

The screen is fine and so is the monitor itself, but I'm thinking that there's an issue with the drivers. When I downloaded the drivers for it, there was no .exe file. Instead, I unzipped an ICC Profile, a Security Catalog, and a Security Information file.

Does anybody know if I can just put these files into the registry somehow and my system will automatically update them and fix my screen resolution?

Preferred Solution: Old NEC Monitor On-Board - Screen Res Is Too Small

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have the same problem Alan had two years ago. (See below.) The exact same numbers and lettres (Alan saw) appear about 1/2" from top left corner. I also have a Sylvania monitor (Product CL772b, Model 780) but am running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron.
I was not making any adjustments when it started. I had used this monitor hundreds of times with this computer and used it on another computer previously without this problem. I can't move or delete blue message. It always remains on top of whatever windows are open. Restarting does not help.

The monitor is a Decaview V382 (17") with on-screen controls via wheel-button. Turn the wheel > controls box. Keep turning and cycle through the control icons for width, height, brightness, etc. Press the button, activate an icon. PROBLEM: turning the wheel now cycles through only two of the icons ("trapezoid" and "pincushion"). There seems to be no way to reach the other icons.

This problem appeared when the monitor was connected to a new Dell running Windows XP (with 98se it had run normally). Do we need new drivers? If so, where can we get them?

Is there a free program that would verify that the small fan on a Radeon
graphics/video board is actually working ?

I looked at Speccy, wow, but it only gives temp's., apparently.
Or, is it there, somewhere ?

This is great info., but anything that might tell rpm, or if actually turning ?

A:Graphics/Video Board Small Fan: Working ?

Could you not simply just have a look inside the case? use a mirror if you can't see the bottom of the card?
Programs that can do this are HWMonitor, SpeedFan and Open Hardware Monitor, they should all display RPM if you have the card's drivers installed (however it might not work for some)

Hope that helps

The USB to PS2 adapters are likely the cause of the problem; thy simply don't always work with every mouse/keyboard.
You'll probably want a USB KVM to resolve this.

Hi. I have a Sceptre S1902D-RV X9G-Gamer monitor. I am having the problem where, when powering the monitor on, it will turn on for a split second (and look fine) and then turn itself back off. Apparently this is because the inverter board is faulty, and replacing this board should fix the monitor.

I am having a hard time determining exactly which board is used in the X9G-Gamer, and also can't figure out where on earth I would go shopping for a replacement.

It seems like replacing one little board would be cheaper than trashing the whole monitor and buying a new one, and it'd also be kind of fun for me to crack this open and see if I can fix it ... but if it's going to be so much trouble to figure out, or just as expensive either way, I guess I should just get a new monitor.

Looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

So i'm buying a computer and somewhat rigging it, im its an older desktop and i dont want to buy a new monitor, i have a smaller TV that i wish to use so that i may still use my other appliances, (consoles and such), if i do use something like a HDMI to VGA cord to plug it into my television set will it work, or do i need a cord that explicitly states that it is VGA to HDMI?

A:Using Small TV as a Monitor

Hi OneOfTheMany, and welcome to TSG.

I can't tell from your post if you want to take an HDMI output from the computer to a VGA input on the TV or a VGA output from the computer and into an HDMI input on the TV. There are adapters available for either function, but they are not interchangeable. The adapters have active electronics inside to convert from one signal type to the other.

I did try to plug in a new video card into the PCI slot. Of course the machine never seemed to detect that it was there.

Any suggestions.

A:on board video dead, no signal to monitor

Putting a new card in may not work as some BIOS's require you to tell them that there is another card there. You could try finding the CMOS reset jumper, which is usually near the battery/BIOS chip on the motherboard. Using that may reset it and tell it to use the card you put in.

It was brought to my attention today that there is a small crack (about 1 inch) in the plastic screen on one of our LCD Monitors. It doesn't seem to have affected anything. The monitor dispaly still works fine. It actually looks like dirt or a scratch, but it's deeper. I haven't messed with it too much.

Has this happened to anyone else? If it doesn't get worse, will we be able to use the monitor as planned? Thoughts, comments, suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello Renerator, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Do you have the latest video drivers installed?

Double check that you have the correct native screen resolution and refresh rate set for the monitor in your display settings.

In addition, how is the monitor connected to the graphics card? For example DVI (card) to HDMI (monitor).
You might try a different connection type on the monitor to see if it may work better.

Can you see the POST screen to enter back into the BIOS? You may need to go back in with the manual for the PC and make sure everything is properly set. If you used F2 to enter the BIOS, it should work, but you will need to make sure the display setting is supported. If you disable on board video, you will need to get a stand a lone video card to make the change.

Hello tech,
It's easter, so I realise some helpers might be away and help might be a bit slow as well as answers from me until Tuesday, lol.

I got a problem, driving me up the wall for four days now.
I use a developer program to make executables (hobby of mine saves me going troppo) called Clarion, it works OK, I made a DOSable program with it, it works OK.

Once I could open to full size DOS screen by pressing the Alt+Enter keys and it would stay open until I was finished with it, then I could revert back to a small screen by pressing Alt+Enter keys again.

Now if I press Alt+Enter keys the DOS screen appears, but it stays open in full screen for a couple of seconds then automatically closes back to the usual small screen.

I have tried right clicking on the icon, properties, screen and putting a dot in the full size option, but this does not work.

I have scanned my PC for viruses etc but no joy there.
I have Dialup only, so don't ask me to do a Panda or Trend scan as they drop you if you no got broadband.

I'm using XP pro, 512meg ram, using a Gigabyte MB, and Nivida video card.
XP working OK-dokie, sound ok-dokie, video ok-dokie, screen to DOS wonkie.
OK what do I do now

I have an HP Pavillon a404x with an Intel 82845 graphics controller using WinXP Home SP3. I just installed an Acer H233H 23" monitor and have two problems.

1. When I run in native mode with resolution of 1920 X 1080 at 75Hz refresh rate my characters are all formed well and looks nice but some displays are too small. For example: I use Google Chrome and the characters in the windows from the Internet are too small for me to read. Also, some games like Spider display cards that are too small to work with. I have adjusted the size of windows icons and displays, its programs I am having trouble with.

2. When I reboot the computer the display reverts to a lower resolution than 1920 X 1080 and the refresh rate goes to 60Hz. That switch back messes up my desktop icon layout. How can I make the larger resolution permanent?

Not really a problem, but how can I make all windows display at a normal width without addressing each window separately?

My girl friend called me to come over because her monitor was now showing two screens, side by side. The one on the left showed her normal desktop, the other showed a blue panel with the words "no s-video input signal." the two screens were each about one third the vertical size of the monitor and, collectively, centered horizontally and using about two thirds of the horizontal width of the monitor.

Other than the two screens, the computer was working normally. You could click to go online or open programs in the small left screen.

The only thing she had changed on her machine recently was she added an internet service called "Graboid." This program, I believe, gets videos from UseNet.

I couldn't correct the problem by a cold boot. Or by trying to adjust the monitor display in the control panel. So I used the add/remove programs to remove the Graboid program and cold booted again. That didn't help.

There isn't anything attached to her computer that provides an s-video input. So why would the computer complain there's no s-video signal input? And why are there now two small screen displays showing on her monitor instead of the normal one big one?

My girlfriend is not very computer savvy, and she may have done anything to cause this problem while signing up for the Graboid program. She once removed the program "Rhapsody" she had signed up for by just removing the Rhapsody folder from the program folder!

I went on vacation a couple weeks ago and came back to find these fuzzy lines being displayed on my computer. The computer was off the entire week. I've had my computer since last December so it shouldn't be an issue with compatibility. I reinstalled my graphics drivers and I also hooked the monitor up to my laptop using a VGA cable(my computer uses a DVI-D cable) and was having the same lines appear. So I have narrowed it down to a problem with the monitor itself. I have an ASUS VH242H monitor.

System Info:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950

A:very small and fuzzy lines on monitor display

Since you've already established it's the monitor and nothing else, there's not a lot more we can say other than you may have a good reason to claim a repair or replacement under warranty as it's less than 12-months old. We certainly don't advise you start messing with it's internals (even if you/we knew what we were doing) while a warranty claim is possible.

Contact ASUS and ask for an RMA under warranty (Returned Merchandise Authorisation) and what the procedure is for returning it. Worldwide telephone contact numbers for ASUS are here: http://support.asus.com/Hotlines.aspx?SLanguage=en

hello& welcome to TSF,

now this is just for starters for trouble shooting

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

It sometimes goes away when I have restarted my laptop however it always comes back. The second thing is that sometimes my screen flickers black for a moment and then returns to normal (always with the bar of screen beneath my taskbar). This happens the most while watching vids on Youtube or so. I can't find how to fix this, my laptop is about half a year old. Can somebody help me please?
