My updates within Files located within Network do not show in other users files

Q: My updates within Files located within Network do not show in other users files

Hello,

I am working within a network drive on excle. I am making changes in these files and my changes do not reflect on my co-workers files.

We all seem to be working off of the same file paths.

I did notice on my copmuter that if I use the Windows seach there are 2 of each files. Let's call them "File1" thru "File11"

If I search for "File1" two of them show up. I have clicked open the properties and they seem to be the same. HOWEVER 1 will show a different update change than the other IE Looking at the "Last Modified 2:15pm"
This goes the same for File2-11

My question is, I need to be updating in the correct spot (which I thought I was!!!!!) so my co-workers can see my changes, but what s going on?
Please helpppppp!

Preferred Solution: My updates within Files located within Network do not show in other users files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: My updates within Files located within Network do not show in other users files

If you are opening the same file, you should save it as the same file name and not rename it. this only causes more confusion if you keep saving it as a different file name every time. Be aware, that only one person can work on an open file at a time, If someone is opening a file that is already opened on another users computer, then they are opening a different named file.

I found this quite useful, i just want to know where this is located lol besides desktop.... like I already know where the libraries folder is: c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries\

what about that other folder ??

thanks

A:Where is the desktop users files folder located?

Hello Mikey,

The "Desktop" folder under Favorites is a shell folder that doesn't have a folder location.

You can open it's location using the shell command below in Run, search, shortcut, etc.....

shell:desktop

Hope this helps,

I have been having problems with Media Center, not downloading the guide.  I have been trying to follow all of Microsoft's recommendations for a fix.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  The advice told me to go into Services and find two files on the list and make sure they were both started:

Windows Media Center Receiver Service (was started), and
Windows Media Center Scheduler Service (wasn't started, I started it).
Then it told be to go to Show Processes from all Users.  And find six files on the list.  The instructions assumed the files would be there.  Only one of the files is.
How do I get the missing five files on the list?:
ehmsas.exe (missing)
ehrecvr.exe (on the list)
ehsched.exe (missing)
ehschell.exe (missing)
ehtray.exe (missing)
mcGlidHost.exe (missing)

Microsoft's directions assumed that these files would all be there.  It did not say what to do if any were missing.

Hi,

I am trying to change the registry to show hidden files/extensions.
This is for an unattended install, so I don't want to do it manually for each user. I know I can change the registry for the current user, but I can't seem to find out how to do this system wide. I need to show hidden files and file extensions for all users, such as when a new user account is created, extensions and hidden files are shown.

Is there a way to do this system wide?

I have tried adding the dword following entries:
Hidden (Value=1) & HideFileExt(HideFileExt=0) to the below locations in the registry

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

I read that if you change HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\NoHidden & HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\HideFileExt to the above values it should change the default key for HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced (Hidden & HideFileExt)

None of the HKLM entries I have tried as above appear to work.
Is there actually a way to change this system wide?

A:Show File Extensions and Hidden Files for all Users

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"HideFileExt"=dword:00000000
"Hidden"=dword:00000001
show and hide files is a profile specific key and therefore can be modified by user accounts. if you would like to change the default, navigate to key:
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version\explorer\advanced\folder\hidden and \hidefileext
there are keys in there that set default behaviors.

Hey Guys, I cannot find a soultion to this problem. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.

When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.

Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.

so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc th... I have Windows XP on my PC and have set-up multiple users. How can I share all my MS Outlook files/folders (email, calendar, contacts) with another user on the same PC, so both can read and receive the same email and can share the same calendar and contacts?

I also have another Windows XP PC in a home network. How can I set it up so that all my MS Outlook files/folders are shared and synchronized between the 2 PCs, i.e., email, calendar and contacts can be accessed and updated on either PC?

A:Sharing MS Outlook files with multiple users on same PC and home network

For the second half of that question it all has to do with your ISP. You probably need to set it up so it leaves a copy on the ISP server. This will allow you to get it on multiple computers. Then there is another option to delete the email once emptied from your deleted items box in Outlook. That way you can use either computer to get the new emails (or viewed but not deleted from another computer).

I'm not sure if this helps, but it could work.

Greetings Again,

My file and storage system is set up like this:

C:\ Drive - 120 GB SSD This is my Win 7 64-Bit Ultimate Boot drive. It has my most important Microsoft programs on it. Out of the 111GB available, I've used 42GB, leaving me 69GB free space. I want to keep this area open.

My next drive is a 1TB WD Caviar Black segmented into 3 partitions.

E:\ Drive = Program FIles This has the majority and rest of my programs. It also includes USERs Files. I've use 96GB out of 150GB. Out of that 96GB, 64GB are in USERS files.

F:\ Drive = Data Files. This stores all of my data except for media. I've used 91GB out of 350. I want to leave this be.

G:| Drive = Medsia FIles This stores all Media = Vids, Music, Graphics, Pictures. I've used 80 GB out of 500GB

I also have a 64GB ~ 55GB actual storage SSD drive that is partitioned but has no data on it or assigned drive letter.

Here is what I want to accomplish.

I want to move my actual Program FIles to the 64GB SSD, assign it a drive letter, and keep the USERS files where they now reside on the F:\ dirve

My main concern is that in moving all these files around and splitting the USERS files from the Program Files that I'll mees up my Registry. Will someone please suggest some links I might read that will best help me acheive these moves.

Peace,

Phroneo

A:Move Program FIles to SSD - Leave Users files Behind

that sounds a bit messy - I'm a bit wary of the users folders..
all those links might be broken - or at least, be put at risk..

Hello all!

I'm having this weird problem in XP. I backed up a 2gb thumbdrive and zipped it up by winrar. The contents were a total of 1.40gb. When I view the zipped files through any compression program (winrar, 7zip, etc.), I can see the files and folders inside. But the weird part is, when I extract them, I can only see a few files and 1 folder available (I have multiple folders in the archive). Visibly, it showed only 200mb worth of files extracted. But when I right-click the folder in which I extracted the files to, it showed 1.40gb. I then thought files were hidden. When I clicked to show hidden files, still nothing. To make sure the "show hidden files" was working, I checked c:\windows folder and happened to see hidden files, while the folder with the extracted files still showed nothing. I did a virus scan and spyware scan on that specific folder. Nothing was found. But still, invisible files. How do I solve this?

I hope my explanation wasn't too confusing. I had this problem for months already.

The only way that I know of would be to have Show hidden files, folders, and drives selected (dotted), and to check the Hide protected operating system files box. Of course, all hidden protected OS files will hidden as well. Hidden Files and Folders - Show or Hide
If you like, you could use the context menu from either step 2 or 3 in the tutorial below to quickly toggle to show or hide all hidden files when you like. This way you see them all when you want to, and none when you don't.Show - Hide Hidden Files - Add to Context Menu

I am running Excel 2007 on a Dell XPS desktop using Windows vista. I had excel open and when I came back to my computer, I had noticed it had rebooted. When I tried to open Excel files I got this message: windows cannot find <name of file>. I had noticed this was also the case with excel files in my thumb drive attached to the computer's USB port. When trying to create a new excel file, I get the same error message. Word files work fine as well as Internet applications. My assumption is that Excel got corrupted (which is a crisis for me because I have my business and tax files on Excel and on that thumb drive as a backup).

So unless there's something else involved, I would have to reinstall Excel. If that is the case, the problem I have is that I got this computer from my Brother-in-law and have all the installation discs that come with it including the operation disk but that only re-installs windows. I don't see a windows office disk and thus I assume Office was installed by the retailer when he had purchased the system.

I would think that there would be a backup of excel on this system that I could access as well as a file that would have the activation code but have no idea where it is. Not sure what to do.

A:All excel files can't be located

Solved. I found this great post that explains the problem and easily solved it.  https://www.avianwaves.com/Blog/entryid/62/Excel-2007-Windows-Cannot-Find-lt-filename-gt-but-you-KNOW-the-file-exists.aspx
You have to uncheck "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)  in the general tab under Advanced in Excel options. I have no idea what all this means and why it works but I'm thrilled as I thought I would have to go out an purchase a new copy of excel.

But that leaves one more question; suppose my excel files do get corrupted and I have to reinstall the program. Being that an Excel disc didn't come with this computer and Office was installed by the retailer, i would imagine that a backup file would exist on this computer. I would assume that the access code is also stored on this computer.

The question then is Where would I find the backup file for Excel and the file that has the access code on this computer.  It is a Windows Vista system running on an Dell XPS desktop as indicated above.

I wish to know where in my Program files (for Outlook) I can find my PST data.
BTW: The PST files are what can be exported & imported in Outlook.
I know how to to the export & import (but I cannot find the PST files).
Can someone comment where I should look (within my Outlook files)? Thanks.
PS. Mind you, I just want to copy the file & import, not open Outlook from the drive.

Hi RSP2RSP2

You may need to enable: Show hidden files and folders before searching for .pst files.

If that is already enabled, you will need to provide more information on your operating system(s) and version(s) of Outlook.

Hi,

Video files in File explorer are shown with the icon of their default program, not with thumbnails; picture files, however, are shown with thumbnails. This is so for several file formats and default programs for both; all cases that I could try. I run Wndows 8.1 64 bit.

The preferences are set for thumbnails in both locations:
File explorer: View/Options/Change folder and search options/View/Always show icons, never folders - unchecked
Control Panel/System/View advanced system settings/Advanced/Performance, Visual effects..../Show thumbnails instead of icons - checked
Of course, otherwise thumbnails wouldn't show for picture files either.

How to fix it?

Hello All,

I would like to remove the 30 or so files that are now showing on my desktop since selecting to "Show Hidden files"

They are all old excel and word documents but not sure if removing them would cause an issue

What are they/how are they created?

I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and Office 2007

Thanks!

A:What are ~$ files that appear on desktop when hidden files show

As far as I'm aware they are desktop .ini files that are written to the desktop whenever you make a change to the file so that the file/folder remembers the change.

If you delete the .ini file it will return to its default settings.

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001060.htm

Is there any particular reason why you want to show hidden files? Obviously, they are hidden for a good reason.

Try this workaround if you insist on showing hidden files:

Enable Show hidden files, folders and drives but make sure that Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) is checked.

This will keep the desktop.ini hidden while showing other hidden files.

Hello friends,

I am in a bit of a bind. I simply clicked the "show hidden files" option on my C:/Users folder. Inside of 20 seconds, my libraries are all rearranged and none of my files are where I put them originally. They have seemingly vanished.

I downloaded ShadowExplorer and thankfully confirmed that I can still open my files when I refer back to an earlier restore point within the program, but when I go to restore the files, they don't go back to where I send them. I don't know where my files are, nor how to access them outside of this ShadowExplorer program.

I did try a regular 'ol Windows system restore, but those don't affect files, so the problem remains. Anyone have any idea what the hell I did and how I might go about fixing it?

Thank you immensely for your consideration.

A:Show hidden files --> Files now missing

Hello Snapdragon, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have not already, see if checking the "don't show hidden files" option will revert them back to how you had them before.

Double check the libraries to make sure that the folders you had included in them are still included.

In addition, see if setting each library to View -> "Sort by -> Name", "Group by -> (None)", and "Arrange by -> Folder" may reveal them.File and Folder Arrangement - Group by - Sort by - Arrange by
Hope this helps for now,

I am running Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 on a standalone computer. I don't use email remotely or from any other device.
I'd just like to know if anyone could tell me where the correct location for *.pst files "should" be.

Background: After a problem with Outlook, I had considerable difficulty locating the 'right' *.pst files and then using Scanpst.exe to see if there were problems. I discover that my computer has 3 different Outlook.pst files, in separate locations.
It doesn't make sense to me to have the files in different locations, I'd prefer them to be in one place, and a location that Outlook will find when browsing. Or is that a silly idea?

1. My main Outlook.pst file is:
C:\Users\Jane\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
The problem with that is that Scanpst.exe does not recognise that as a valid location when you browse to select the file to scan; it simply doesn't bring up the AppData folder; I eventually managed to do it but only by typing in the exact file path

2. I had the archive folder (Archive2.pst. ) in the same folder. The problem there is that again, Outlook won't find it by browsing. I had to type in the full pathname again to open it.

3. When I ask Outlook to open another *.pst file, it offered me this file (which is a separate email account and a different location) :
C:\Users\Jane\Documents\Outlook Files\[email protected]"

This isn't urgent, now Outlook is cooperating again, but if any... Read more

A:Infected Files Located, Virus Identified, What NOw!!!!

As I believe my computer to be on the road to recovery (fingers crossed) or recovered, I like to write a quick summary of the Bagle virus and how it manifested in my computer. I first noticed something was wrong when my sound went out after downloading cracked software from emule site that I could have gotten for free elsewhere. I couldn't play WMP, or sound from websites was missing. In fact sound all together was missing from my computer.

When I would press turtle beach santa cruz speaker icon on my desktop toolbar, I would get 'santa cruz not detected'. My volume wouldn't move. I spent several days unistalling and reinstalling latest sound drivers but still system would fail in their 'software configurations tests' on third and fourth part of test. Under Control Panel, Sound and Audio devices was basically greyed out, not recognizing or showing santa cruz {Just now I went and actually changed it back to Santa Cruz on all options and I know my system is free of the virus. Thanks Kaspersky!}.

By this time I was beginning think virus as the only thing I had been doing was downloading. I also could not access my Norton antivirus, either to remove it or access their folders. My System Restore was a wash, I couldn't go back at all and the few restore points that I had would fail on attempts. I could not access certain programs like spybot and hijackthis, resulting in a "this program is not a win32 exe program" or something like that... Read more

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

I am using a program to try and build a custom installation disc, but where on earth do I go once I click browse? What file name am I looking for??

A:Where on computer are windows 7 installation files located?

A Windows 7 installation does not contain the files necessary to install Windows. You will need to contact Microsoft, and they should send you a installation disc for a small charge, with which you can do what you like.

Hi, One of the techs who helped me a while back, had me use Combo-fix. It worked perfect. I noticed it didn't have to create a Recovery Console. I just saw the file it left today, but I didn't make note of where it was. Is it safe to just let it be? Don't want anyone to accidently RELEASE THE CRACKEN!!! Anyone? Anyone?

Hi Admins and Experts,

i have this issue. i installed Win7 Ultimate 64-bit OS on my SSD (120GB only and mainly for OS only), then i have attached a separate 500GB (2.5inch) for purely for Data and Program Files. i did this so i could boot fast. it is working but the problem is, when i tried to run such as BattleField3, Max Payne, Assassin's Creed, etc, the games loading is very slow.. as in super slow, sometime i thought it hanged but it is not. once it loads, it is also lagging. is there any script or i need to configure to tell my system immediately that my Program Files for that program is located at D:\Program Files\..\..\ and not in C:\Program Files\..\..\.\?

i tried installing the games in C:\Program Files\..\ and it is loading fast so meaning it has no issue.

please help. thanks a lot..

A:How do i configure my Program Files located at different partition

I would not have Program files on an external HD which is throttled some by the USB controller. You'd want them on an internal HD, and ideally the C partition since they write registry keys that integrate them into the OS so should remain a part of it until they are uninstalled.

I wouldn't even have data on an external except as a backup. YOu can move your data to another partition or hard drive and then link it's User Folders - Change Default Location

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
AMD Athlon 2 x4 processor
ATI 5770 GPU
Dual Monitor Setup
External HD - WD My Book Studio Edition II (reformatted it for PC use) connects through SATA

Some information I think may be pertinent. I recently hauled my computer a few times to a friends for a lan session. After doing so, my computer stopped recognizing my external HD at the proper location F-Drive and started recognizing it as the E-Drive. Shortly after is when the BSOD started occurring.

I had a clone drive installed and it looked like it was running my external because the icon of the clone drive was next to my external rather than the normal hard-drive icon. I uninstalled the clone drive and the icon reverted back to normal but it still remains as E-drive. I noticed that the BSOD tends to occur when I interact with the external HD.

Also, not quite sure how to describe this but semi-frequently, little lines will flash across one of my screens. Hope this extra bit of information helps because I really want to fix this!

Thanks for any help in advance.

I'm not sure why I'm having this problem but whenever I attempt to open a picture that is saved on my desktop it takes windows picture and fax viewer forever (minutes sometimes) to open the picture. If the pictures are in any other folder they open in a heartbeat. I also experience long wait times to save files on my desktop whenever I download from the internet using internet explorer or mozilla. The download time is fast but it takes unusually long for the download to begin. (minutes off download.com and other known sites just to start the file saving process) For some reason, my computer doesn't like this location. I use ftp programs as well and whenever I try to access the desktop through those as well, my ftp program hangs until it can "sort" through and figure out what files and folders are on my desktop. I have been having this trouble for quite some time and can't find any reports on it. I hoped sp2 would address it, but no luck there.

I'm running P-M 1.7 w/ 1 gig of ram on win xp pro. I run adaware pro and spybot along w/ hijackthis on a weekly basis and still can't diagnose this problem. Nor known virii or trojans from norton and housecall.

If you have any info or suggestions they would be appreciated. Thanks for the time and the help ( oh and the bandwith too!)

My friend has some important photos in his memory card which is in cell

They are not appearing in the cell phone.
But, they are appearing in my PC when connected using the data cable (

USB ) and after checked the option "show hidden files and folders".
They are reappearing in the cell phone after deleting and recopying
the files to cell phone.

My question is ,the "show hidden files and folders" is a option in
windows based operating systems. But, why it is effecting the memory
card. Why they are not appearing in the cell phone.

Thank you for your consideration.

I have a prob with my Seagate 1TB external hard drive working on my G4 Powerbook (Leopard OSX). I have a Maxtor 200 gb drive that works perfectly. But The 1TB drive doesn't always appear on the desktop but does show in the system profiler. When it does show up on the desktop my files missing from from folders. Finally on the few times that files show up, I can't open them. I had error messages about permission to open the files but the drive and files all have read/write permission.

I use the drive for backup. The files on this drive are from the Maxtor drive, random disks and my thinkpad which runs Vista.
Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

As Administrator, I?ve created my own folders for my documents. These are located in the D: partition of my hard drive; and they are shown in the Library section of the contents of the computer, on the left.
Now, when opening the computer from the Guest Account, my own folders do not appear in the Library, all right. But just below the Library there appears the rest of the computer content, including the D: partition, and any Guest can access all the folders and files there, including my documents.
How can I hide the folders of each User from any other Guests, not only in the Library but also in their actual location in the hard drives?
Thanks for any help.
ACA

A:Hiding Users' files from Guest Users

OK this appears to be a simple permissions issue.

go to your root folder on the D: drive and right click the folder and select properties.

on the security tab you should see a list of those who have access to the folder - Make sure that your user has full rights and remove all rights to the "everyone" user group. This when OK'd should xascade down to all files and folders contained in the folder

If you wish you can adjust the rights available to any other particular user on the system - Make sure that you do not remove or change any rights given to system or administrative users unless you fully understand the result

Hi,
I'm sitting with a big issue at a customer and ask for your help.
Environment:
- 3x Windows 2008 R2 file servers configured in DFS
- approx. 500x Windows 7 clients (Laptops)
- 3x network shares, Common1, Common2 and Homefolder.
- "Offline Files" and "Folder Redirection" enabled for entire user profile.
- Everything is controlled by GPOs and there are no login scripts.
Symptom:
Due to some faulty settings in the client GPO and the fact that the "Common" shares was set to allow Offline Caching of files and folders, the majority of clients now suffer from sync issues and conflicts.
Most of the conflicted files are located in the users home folder, but some users are also seeing the same issues with files located on the "Common" shares. The users themselfes are not allowed to enable Offline Files as this is disabled by GPOs.
The only folders that should be treated as Offline Files are the ones in the users home folder.
Solution:
A new set of GPOs have been created that correctly set up "Offline Files" and "Folder Redirection". These are linked to a test-OU and the computers and users applied to that OU are not suffering from the problems above.
Question:
When we move a client, the cache will be deleted and all non-sync'd work will be lost.
Today we manually look at every users sync center and try to resolve the conflicts before we move them to the new OU. This is extremely time consuming when... Read more

The already selected button is "Other encoding" and the suggested code is "Japanese". The preview pane shows only an array of characters, all the same.On trying to select the button "Windows (Default)", the preview changes to a continuous array of lower-case xxxxxxx. On returning to the "Other encoding" option and trying "Auto-Select", the selected code returns itself to "Japanese" with the display as already noted above. On returning to the "Other encoding" option and trying "Western European (Windows)", the display reverts to the Windows Default style as already noted above, lines of xxxxxxx. This sounds like it might be a malware infection.

Have you run any scans lately?

Did you download BackUp4All from a reputable source?

Hi,

I am guessing this will be either incredibly easy and I am missing something, or incredibly difficult to achieve.

But what I am wanting is to setup my system so that one partition has the ability to view all of the hidden windows files and folders and also hidden system files.

However at the same time for none other partitions on my PC to have this ability.

I can set this up affecting all paritions but there are some that I do not want this feature on.

I know I can laboriously keep switching it back and forth on the drive I want but I would not like to have to do this unless absolutely necessary.

So does anyone know any method that I can achieve what I am wanting.

Thanks
Anthony

I have a server with a RAID 6 array and 2 clients that I regularly transfer large DV files to and from. The server and both clients have Intel Pro/1000 PT PCIe x1 NIC's. Onboard LAN is disabled in BIOS on all 3 computers. Both clients have identical settings on their NiC cards. Both clients and the server are on the same GbE switch.

My question is this - Client "A" can have files pulled from the server side or push them to the server at wire speed - 50-90 MB/s. Client "B" can have files pulled from it on the server side at the same speed, about 50-90 MB/s, but if I try to push a file to the server, either via teracopy or drag-and-drop on a network share, the network utilization goes down to about 1% and the transfer speed is about 2-4MB/s.

What could cause this? Both clients have 4GB i-RAM drives on them for testing purposes, and these read 150MB/s according to HD Tune, so I'm confident this is not some obscure setting buried in the "B" client's drive firmware. Also, the clients can move the files quickly between their other internal drives and their i-RAM drives, so I don't think anything is strange there either.

I'm wondering if the "B" client has an IRQ issue the other client does not, but I don't know how to track stuff like that down.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Network Speed - Push Files vs. Pull Files

Have you tried swapping out the NIC card on the problem PC? It uses different circuits to push and pull, so it could have a problem with one of the circuits and not the other.

Hi there,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section!

I recently got a new additional desktop at office that has Windows 7 Professional loaded on it. I use my laptop as the primary computer, but need to start using the desktop for other routine activities.

I need to run a vbs/exe file in the background, as soon as the Windows loads up. I copied few files and everything works well. I had saved the program along with the vbs & exe file in 'C:/Program Files/New Doc' (no specific reason). But when I restart my desktop, all the files get deleted. I was reading online about this and I figured, this could be because Windows 7 is booting on the network? I am not sure, but that explains why all the files I download get wiped/deleted on the next restart.

I was wondering if you can help me out in three things:

1) Can you confirm if Network Boot is the reason why files are getting deleted?

2) Assuming Win 7 is working on Network boot, is there a folder/location where in which, the file I save are not deleted in the next restart?

3) My main concern is that, I need to run this VBS/Exe file on Windows startup, but because all the files get deleted on start up, I can't put the file in the Startup folder or use the Task Scheduler or Group Policy to get this file working on Startup.

Thanks a lot in advance. Any help is appreciated!

EDIT: As this is a desktop that is going to be shared with 2 more colleagues, I don't want use a USB or other external drives to run the file vbs/exe file.... Read more

A:Files get deleted with Network Boot (Need autostart of files)

It sounds like you may have Time Freeze, Returnil, or some other "sandbox" software running that uses the Shadow Service to divert downloads and file copies to a cache rather than the actual disk drive folder. When the system is booted the cache is discarded. Files all gone.

Try downloading and running AutoRuns and look for these programs. If you don't see any I mentioned then you may have to search on any you don't recognize.
