I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi @DougMin?,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15-ae109na Notebook and  issues with updates. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. You could  try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows.  Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed! Please let me know how this goes. You can say thanks for trying to help by clicking the Thumbs Up below!.Thanks.

I have the same problems. Today I updated the Bios of my HP probook 650 G1 to version 1.39 from 1.36
After that my DisplayPort is not working anymore. The external VGA port is working fine.
There is no way to downgrade again. Error message at the end of that downgrading process tells me the digital signature is not valid or the image is damaged. So please HP, fix this problem in 1.39 for all users.

Got a BIOS update notice from HP, so decided to do it.  Update d/l'd and proceeded normally, up to 6%, then hung up.  I was able to do a hard shut-down, then use the Windows key+B key to restore the old BIOS settings and get running.  Upon the reboot, though, the BIOS update started again, which I cancelled before it timed out.  Things were fine for a couple days until I installed new Windows updates and needed a reboot.  When I did, the **bleep** BIOS update started again, with no option to cancel it, and, again, it hung, though it got to 35% before doing so.  At this stage, I'm done with trying to update the BIOS and just want to stop this from happening every time I reboot my system.  Since I'm out of warranty, HP doesn't want to talk to me to help me fix a problem that THEY created by releasing such a crappy utility, unless I pay them an exhorbitant amount of money (frankly, $0.01 is too much to pay for a problem THEY created).  Any of you out there got a way to stop this **bleep** update from starting every time I reboot my system?  Thanks!

rubenst,

A lot more information will be needed:

                          Machine Make & Model
Operating System (even though BIOS comes ahead of that, it can be useful)
BIOS version you had before and the one you attempted to upgrade to
Source for the BIOS file you used to upgrade

This will also belong on another forum, but having the above might help to decide which one.

Guys,

I wasn't quite sure where to post this question, but since I suspect it's related to the recent BIOS update of my Asus Rampage Extreme from 0404 to 1202, the hardware forum seemed right.

Basically, I did two things at the same time. I had updated my chipset drivers and during the post-install reboot, I updated the BIOS. Upon booting, I noticed the Windows boot process begins (the W7 logo formulates), but before I make it to the login prompt I see the dreaded BSOD with a 0x000000A STOP error.

At first I thought it was the chipset driver, as I have never had any issues with BIOS upgrades before. So I focused there. I was able to use the System Repair function a few times to complete two separate system restores to help ensure the chipset driver had been rolled back. No dice. Still getting the same error just before login.

Next I actually used my Acronis recovery software to restore the entire C: volume to its state on Saturday afternoon when I took the last full backup. The restore completed successfully. The error persists.

Now what? The BIOS is set to factory defaults! I may have to toy around with some settings? Or do you guys think this is a Windows software issue and not related to the BIOS or hardware?

I saw this article on the Vista forums that seemed similar to my situation but I'm pretty sure this "bug" was fixed with Windows 7.

A:0x000000A STOP error upon boot after BIOS update

BIOS updates commonly revert settings to default.

When you updated the chipset driver and the BIOS concurrently - you changed the reader (chipset driver) and the book (BIOS) at the same time. Unwise.

Since you restored an image, it is logical that you should modify the BIOS to your desired settings. Boot and test for stability. Apply chipset driver update.

Please note: Some chipset driver updates require the re-installation of all other device drivers. Changing the way the mobo is addressed sometimes requires advising the mobo components about that change.

Hi there,

I uninstalled Intel Smart Connect Technology after experiencing a BSOD that seemed to be caused by a related driver. When the uninstallation tool asked if I wanted to restart now/later, I chose to restart now, which was followed by another BSOD.

Now I can boot into Windows just fine but neither my mouse or my keyboard are working. They work in the BIOS but as soon as Windows is loaded, they stop functioning. I've tried resetting my CMOS but this did not solve the problem. I've also checked that they are enabled in the BIOS.

I would try a system restore but Windows 8 doesn't seem to allow me to boot into repair mode without actually going into Windows first, but I can't do it from Windows because of my malfunctioning peripherals.

I can't use the Windows 8 installation disc to repair because as soon as the message that says "Press any key to continue" comes up, my keyboard stops working. However, it seems I can force the PC to boot from the CD which after a bit of a wait gets me to the Windows installation screen, with my only option being to completely reinstall Windows.

I'd like to avoid that if possible. Does anyone have alternate solutions?

Edit: Obviously I cannot post the minidump files so I'm sorry for not following the posting rules to the letter :S
Edit2: I am able to enter Windows Repair Mode with the Installation disc, but there is no option for Safe Mode and when I attempt to System Restore, I get this error message: "To use System Res... Read more

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

Try starting the system and then shutting it down by using the power button to turn it off.
Try it 3 times and see if that will allow you to get into the repair options.at

What happens when you reboot and look for the option to select an operating systems?
What other options do you have for the repair/restore/reset/refresh?

I'm a Firefox user typically, but a few weeks ago there was an update and following it Firefox just plain stopped working. It doesn't recognise a connection at all.
After reading around, others who have this problem are told to check firewalls and make sure it's not being blocked. Well I turned all firewalls off and also tried removing and re-adding the program to the exception lists of both Kaspersky and windows firewall, but nothing.

I just sort of gave in and started using IE, which was working fine. But last night there was an automatic windows update. And now today I find that Internet Explorer is doing the exact thing firefox was! It just won't open any pages as if it can't find a connection.

So now I'm using firefox 3 Beta. But really I just want my standard browsers back!

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I updated my windows and for some reason my second monitor stopped working right. It would take the same screen resolution as my laptop and I couldn't change it. I restarted the computer multiple times and it changed nothing. I uninstalled both the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M drivers then restarted so they would reinstall. It didn't fix anything. They both have errors, the Chipset says: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing.(Code 39) The NVIDIA says: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot laod the drivers required for this device (Code 31) I have tried having them work seperately and it does nothing. I have also installed both the drivers from their respective websites and it still did not fix the problem. Whenever I start the computer with the second monitor unplugged, and then plug it in later it doesn't seem to recognize it, but if I turn the computer on with it plugged in, it works but doesn't recognize it as a second monitor and only runs it like the laptop monitor.

If there is any extra information needed let me know, any and all help is appreciated.

This is just a heads-up that after security update KB957097, my wireless stopped working.

I have a Belkin N-Wireless Router, and I use WPA-PSK (TKIP) security.

Specifically, I got 2 message balloons on my wireless connectivity icon (bottom right tray in XP).

1. windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network

2. this connection has limited or no connectivity
After I uninstalled that security update (after 2 hours of knocking my head), it started working fine.

A:Solved: Security Update KB957097 causes wireless to stop working

An update.

The earlier solution only worked for a short while. The same problems re-started after a day or so.

Apparently something called a cryptoservice in my computer had gotten corrupted.

I finally solved it by doing the following:
Go into safe mode.
Start a cmd window.

Enter the following:
net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
peaceout.

Hi

Is BIOS update necessary? Or what is the intention to update the BIOS?
Usually if you have no serious problems, the BIOS update isn?t essential

Regarding the sound:
You can solve the problem in Windows XP installing KB888111 and KB835221 hotfix before installing sound driver.

HiHave you read the BIOS upgrade related readme.txt file? There are several important requisitions:- Lenovo recommends to install the USB 3.0 driver for Windows (Version 1.4.0.225 or higher) prior to updating the BIOS. Because the BIOS requires the modification in the USB 3.0 driver to fix USB 3.0 related issues.- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack.- Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the UEFI BIOS in the remote deployment environments.- Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account on the target computer.- Make sure the AC adapter is firmly connected to the target computer.

Hi, One thing you could try would be to see if you can roll back to the previous bios version as follows. Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ). Select the Firmware Management option and then select the BIOS Rollback option. Regards, DP-K

After updating the BIOS to the latest June version, the HDMI output just stopped working. I tried connecting the cable to the display via DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, and it works, so that problem is not in my cable and not in my display. Trying to connect the HDMI to the display and using Picture in Picture I can see that the display doesn't detect any HDMI displays.  Resetting the CMOS doesn't help. Any ideas?
