Virusscan Soft

Q: Virusscan Soft

OK so I got this thing a few weeks ago.

I have done a number of things including restored to an earlier date, HiJack This, MalwareBytes, Spybot and AdAware.

It seems to keep coming back. I can't figure out whether I actually get rid of it and then get it again, or if I just dont' quite get rid of it.

In addition to this, I also get new tab popups on BOTH IE AND Firefox!

Here is my HiJack this log. Hope someone can see something I am missing. This log is right after doing a full scan of Malware, Spybot and removing "ftav" references found in the HiJack this log, as well as removing any instances in the registry. (By the way, while I was writing this a tab pop up occurred.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated:

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I freshly reinstalled my windows 7.
before and after the install,
when I watch videos on youtube.com (that's the only example atm),
the videos play great, flawless framerate, no matter the quality.
but they will randomly lockup. pause. only while in fullscreen.
high speed internet, videos have completed downloading, streaming speed isn't the issue.

if i press ESC to the video minimizes to a smaller display and works flawlessly,
if i press full screen again, the video continues flawlessly, untill 5 or 10 seconds later,
no specific time, they may more may not pause again.

no other system annoyances that i can recall.
i tried updating divx, although Ive never had to install those to watch youtube.

any ideas what could cause full screen video lockup?
ESC and a refullscreen instantly solves the issue, but i have to do it a few times throughout some videos.

reinstall java maybe? seems like I had to install java to watch youtube. i forget.

A:full screen youtube video lockup (soft soft)

I would make sure my Java script was OK. Do you run Trend A/V by any chance. This can block Java! What's you broadband speed? Does this happen at all times of the day or only at specific times?

hi there ,

Inspite of being very careful , I'm having troubles with that stupid trojan and virus alerts for 2 days now.. I tried kaspersky6 and nod32 to detect and clean the reason but had no luck till then..

well, here are the details..

I cannot see temporary internet files folder which should be in :

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings folder.

and those gifs are created periodically , after deleting , they appear again some time later in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp folder.

nod32 is alerting like crazy about those gifs , you can see the quarantine screenshots below

finally, you can see the combofix and hijackthis logs below..

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Sorry for the delay in response. The forum has been very busy.

Please note that Combofix is a very powerful tool and should never be used without supervision by a trained analyst. Under certain conditions, it may render the machine unbootable. If you haven't received help elsewhere and still need assistance, please proceed with the following instructions:

Now, run HijackThis. Close all windows and browsers except HijackThis.
Click on Open Misc Tools
Click on Delete a File On Reboot
Click once on the file below to select it, if listed:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ThunderAdvise.dll

do the same for this one, if listed:

C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\Jview.dll

Click on the Back button to exit Process Manager

Now, back at the main screen of HijackThis, click on Scan and put a check in front of the following

A:Best soft to recover 3TB HDD of GPT on wondows 7 ? free soft most like

I just recently had a problem similar to yours, just mine was a bit more complex and have put it on the 'backburner' untill I have more time. I havent found a reason why my disk did 'fail' but dont worry, it can be recovered. Greg recommended this program to solve my solutions, Partition Wizard. This comes in many 'formats' Home version is what you want, it is free and allows you to do the tasks you will need. There is also a more advanced 'bootable' cd which can aslo be foudn on their website. By following this link to a video guide, you have lots of chances of recovering most-all of your data, only downside is that you must have a seperate hdd to copy the recovered files onto, be it your internal HDD or an external one. Mouse movement and screen refresh are particularly slow. I'm ready to uninstall it and go back to 4.076 or whatever. Any suggestions before I take this step?

I found it got a bit qiucker if I set the System Scan to only scan program files and also took the tick out of the run box....to get to this right click on Vshield (icon in toolbar) then select properties...then system scan...I have emailed Mcafee to find out why...will keep you posted!

Hi there!

I'm a newbie here and need help! We have XP and used to use Norton until it froze up our computer every time it tried to scan it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Finally we got Mcafee which seemed to work for a while. Then it started doing the same thing. Now we can't get a thorough scan of our computer. It goes til about 400ish files then freezes. Ugh. As a result, we weren't scanning it very much and got a virus. Now that I've fixed that, I REALLY need to get some software on here that is going to scan without problems.

Do you have any recommendations? Or do you know why McAfee continues to freeze up? I like their features and since we are subscribed, it would be great to keep them, but I haven't found any answers on their website or elsewhere.

Thanks guys!

A:Can't get virusscan to work in XP!

Have you Tried downloading and using ad-ware and spy bot out of my experince I had a very similar problem to that and I did a scan with them it caught a file delted it and then I was fine and could scan. If not try a different anti virus avg is free that might be able to complete a scan It might be a worm that attacks your antivirus program so if you get a new program that isn't the most common that many people don't have grudges against like AVG they might be able to catch them. Check out these and see if they help that's my advice I don't know if that will work but it's worth a shot.

I have had numerous problems with Mcafee Virusscan. You guys have gotten me through all of them so far.
Here's the latest problem:

I just upgraded to Virusscan version 5.21.1000. As usual when I upgraded I have numerous problems. The internet freezes up or has smeared pages at times. My mouse is very jerky( only on IE5) and hard to control. When I close explorer after a freeze by using Contol-alt-Del and then try to re-open IE5 I get a message that there is not enough free memory to run this program. Virus dat files are 4.0.4150. That is problem #1.

Problem #2:
I also updated my Mcafee firewall to version 2.15.001.0. It is set up to load on start-up, but it doesn't load.

I have about had it with Mcafee. If you have ideas for a fix please let me know, otherwise.....what kind of a nightmare will it be to uninstall these 2 programs? I was thinking about switching to Norton Antivirus and Norton Personal Firewall. What do you think of these? Send me your best ideas. I really appreciate the help.

I have a Gateway G6 450.

Dear Marye,

We have McAfee Netshield on our servers (NT 4.0) and Viruscan on about 50 workstations with various O/S.
It works very well EXCEPT on a few computers and on computers where we do Folio data base development work.
On these computers we run Norton Anti-virus with good results.
I have found that Norton and McAfee both have their good points and both get the job done. Norton is simpler and generally more trouble free however McAfee can be configured to give more control.
What I'm saying is if McAfee is giving you trouble then switch to Norton or some other anti-virus program. No point in punishing yourself.

Regards,
Roger

Uninstall all mcafee products and switch to a better Antivirus program, and a better Firewall program.- it appears its been giving you troubles for awhile anyhow.- try and stay away from the "suites", and go with different AV and Firewall protection.I personally like AVG antivirus, and using a router as my firewall.See here for more antivirus and firewalls: http://forums.techguy.org/t110854.html

Ferrija1's Canned Malware Removal Applications Post:

There are so many good antivirus applications on the internet, there is no "absolute best, hands-down, golden standard" application for virus or spyware removal. They are like cars. They all get you places (remove viruses), it's just that some look different and have certain features that others don't. The exact appliations you choose comes down to personal preference. You may find a certain lightweight anti-virus application to work well on your less powerful computer, or you may like the layout of an anti-spyware enough that you choose to use it. The detection difference between the below applications is for the most part insignificant.

Nomatter what anti-virus application you use, you can still be infected if you do not follow the following points:

1. You behavior while online is your first and best defense against malware. While antivirus software is complex, malicious programs (malware) are created every day before antivirus applications have time to update to block that vulnerability, leaving the antivirus software useless. There are few security tips to follow while online; if these are followed, coupled with an antivirus application, your chances of being infected are next to none.

Yes, I am aware of the fact that McAfee detects the StartupList standalone as an mhtml exploit webpage. This makes respectively the fifth and sixth time McAfee has mistakenly detected one of my programs as some brand of virus. And I'm getting pretty tired of this. Hi all, I have a problem which has me completely stumped.

I recently re-formatted my Compaq Presario (UK) computer using the Windows ME restore (factory settings) CD. I then re-installed McAfee VirusScan (v5.13) using the setup icon on the desktop.

Naturally it was out of date so I went to the Update feature (called SecureCast) and set it updating. When it got to update number 101 (of 202 back then) the program (mupdate.exe) crashed, bringing the "This program has caused a fault" error message.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing, same problem. I've tried hitting CNTL-ALT-DEL and closing ALL programs running (except explorer.exe, hidserv.exe and systray.exe, which are the three programs (I was told) which keep Windows running and running it again, in case something was interfering with it. No luck, same problem.

The guys on the tech support system told me to re-install Windows again (don't want to do that). The software still crashes when it gets to update 101 (now of 216) and I can't even see the actual file it's trying to download because it doesn't get that far!!

Any help appreciated.

Stuart.

Is there any fix for this without me having to go back to Macafee, which is a real pain, they are not very responsive.

Hi All. I didn't quite know where to post this, I believe it to be a McAfee issue. Here is my story:

I run XP on a Compaq Priserio 5000 and subscribe to McAfee Online Antivirus.

About a year ago, I was hit with the Klez virus. It highjacked my McAfee Online Anti-virus. It took me several weeks to clean up the mess. I cleaned it up by getting a copy of McAfee VirusScan v6 from a friend's PC, loading it on mine, running it to clean up Klez, uninstalling it, and re-installing the McAfee Online Anti-virus.

That seemed to work pretty well, except for one nagging issue.

Now, whenever I go into my control panel, I get the following warning message:

There is an OK button to click. I click it, and I enter into Control Panel normally.

I have tried the McAfee support center. They believe that it is caused by an incomplete uninstall of VirusScan v6. They gave me a very detailed set of instructions for a manual uninstall, which I carried out. The problem pers... Read more

Once the file is located and program quits running right click on the file and delete it or rename to avsmcoa.cpl.old (or similar). Now you will be able to access the control panel without any problems!

I just purchased V7.0 of VirusScan and can not load it. I tried the Manual Uninstall of V5.1, V5.0 and V4.O nothing works.

When I try to load V7.0 i get a box that says there is another version on the machine. I have gone to the control panel and the add/remove button and it shows Mcafee Virusscan being there but it will not remove it. I go to Start and Find and ask it to fine McAfee and it finds nothing. What do I do next.

A:(Solved) McAfee VirusScan V7.0

Back up your system.dat and user.dat files into a temp directory. Then run regedit, click edit, then find, then type "virusscan" and delete any keys it finds. Press F3 to continue searching until it gets them all.

Do the same thing for the word "McAfee" Deleting any keys found.
After the registry is clean of the entries for the program, then install it.

If you make a mistake, restore the backed up files by rebooting into DOS and going to the windows directory and typing
Attrib system.dat -r -h -s
hit enter
Attrib user.dat -r -h -s
hit enter
Then change to the temp directory and
xcopy *.dat c:\windows\
then reboot and start over.

A good registry cleaner, like "registry first aid" from rose city software, or the one that comes with ontrack system suite, would allow you to clean the old references out without having to do this manually, plus have the added benefit of possibly boosting your systems preformance. Consider getting one.

Hello everyone!

My McAfee VirusScan became disabled, after my computer failed to start-up properly and then I had to restart from a backup point doing a Windows Start fix, I think that is what it is called. Eversince then my McAfee Virus scan has been disabled. It said there were 3 files missing and 1 file changed when I ran the Virtual Technician. My McAfee Program takes forever trying to redownload the VirusScan program. Sometimes it will start to download and then stop and then restart downloading several times. I ahve been unable to get on to the McAfee website to ask any questions because of the program downloading. It makes my connection too slow! I have dial-up internet access.

What could have caused this? This is not the first time this happened. It has happened before. Could there be a virus, trojan,or some other bad program on my computer that makes this hapen every so often? Or could there be some file changes that have been made, that might cause this?

A:Mcafee Virusscan Became Disabled

I have finally managed to get the McAfee Anti-Virus redownloaded, But it picked up something on a scan of my computer. Which I will mention in the appropriate topic area.

I still do not know what caused the McAfee anit-virus to become disabled origionally after windows failed to start properly.
anyone have any ideas on what could have caused it?

If your a home user and your using the Enterprise edition you likely got it off bit torrent. Go buy an AV in a store or try one of the free AVs such as AVG or Avira.

In the event that you do have a liget copy you can always contact McAfee tech support for help.

Trying to update McAfee, I bought & downloaded the latest Virusscan. After it was installed, I got the Blue Screen of Death that said something about the VShield dll not connecting with something (I didn't write it down), and when I typed N I got another Blue Screen of Death that read: "Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device number 3F9F, service 74. Your Windows configuration is invalid. Run the Windows setup program again to correct this problem. System halted." I reinstalled WinME, and ran into the same two BSDs before I could get my desktop up. I finally booted in Safe Mode and pulled the fangs on McAfee completely. Now my computer works, but I have no virus checker! Was this a bad download? Did I fail to do something? Help!

I attempted to install McAffee VirusScan Plus 2007, but stated there was a conflict with Ad Aware and would not install. I removed(I thought) Ad Aware with Add/Remove, installed again, and still stated Ad Aware was still on my PC. I did a search and found a misc. file and deleted it. Still, it shows I have Ad Aware and I searched and cannot find it anywhere. Hence, I have no virus protection. I have WIN XP Home SP2.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you, Tom.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Hello friends, my o/s is XP home SP3, with McAfee VirusScan V4.5.1 sp1 installed.
Often, when my machine comes out of sleep, I find that it has stopped scanning and I get the following error message:-
"NT On-Access Scanner has encountered a problem and needs to be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
Pl. tell me how to rectify this problem, as I find it quite annoying, as well as, it also compromises the security of my machine.
Thanks.

A:Solved: Problem with McAfee VirusScan

Dear sir,
I personally am not a proponent of allowing the pc to be in sleep mode. Can you kindly clarify what is the status of your scanner ,once you shut down and re-start?Though the downloading of updates is automatic with Mcafee,if the connectivity is slow,i have encountered such problems in the past. Now i have Kaspersky Internet Security Suite2009 and the updates run in the "background".I exactly don't remember the version of Mcafee anti-virus i had,but until the update was over,it was like sitting on tenterhooks.Which firewall have you installed?I hope you don't have any other Anti-malware in your system.

I have five computers on my home network, four wired and one wireless. File and print sharing was fine between all the computers prior to installing McAfee VirusScan Plus on two of them, one in the living room and one in the family room. There is no print sharing issues, just file sharing between two of them.

Despite the install, the other three computers on the network share files fine the good old way through Shared Folders in My Network Places.

These three computers can only access one of the two McAfee VirusScan Plus installed computers but not the other one.

Curiously, the two computers with the McAfee VirusScan Plus installed can access the shared folders in the three non- McAfee VirusScan Plus installed machines just fine.

McAfee Tech Support seems at a loss. They have had me do everything but dance a jig, to no avail. Their tech support appears not to be in the USA. The documentation supplied could use some improvements. There is a serious lack of operational detail and explanation.

Let me give you an update on the problem because the problem seems half solved and to give you a bit more of an idea of my network setup.

I have two computers with the McAfee VirusScan Plus installed. This installs a McAfee Security Center Program that allows you to view the status of as well as configure the installed Antivirus, Firewall, Network Security, Email scanning and Parental control features. Both wired computers are Dell 8000 series. One is in the Family room and the o... Read more
