Ram upgrades for thinkcentre M58P 6137

Q: Ram upgrades for thinkcentre M58P 6137

I have searched the whole durn world over about upgrading ram memory on these M58P 6137 sff desktop computers and it's like two sides to every story!! Lenovo says:: 8gb maximum. Crucial and others say 16gb maximum. I've updated the bois to the 5ckt77a and all that and even chunked in a cpu upgrade from e8400-3.0 to a 8600-3.33 and no problems there. But before going and spending money on a lost cause; If indeed these computers can even handle 1- 4gb stick of ram let alone 4-4gb of ram. Anyone out there done it yet? I'm using 8gb now (4-2gb)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre m58p with a GT 710 and I will probably upgrade it to GT 1030 in the future but is the GT 1030 compatible with the m58p?

A:Lenovo Thinkcentre M58 & M58p: yes, is compatible with GT 1030

I'm a huge fan of the GT 1030, but haven't seen any posts here on it and the M58/p.   You may be the first to try it, however the GT 1030 does work with the next gen model, M90/p (and newer), and I haven't seen a case where a GT 730 worked (on systems with PCIe ver. 2.0 -- GT 730 is known to work on M58) and the GT 1030 did not (meaning it has good backward compatibility, unlike AMD graphics cards.)  That doesn't guarantee that it will work, but there's a very high probability.  I hope that helps.

Edit:  Earlier versions of the M58 and all M57 have PCIe ver 1.1.  I would not recommending using a PCIe 3.0 card (GT 1030) in a 1.1 slot (PCIe 2.0 cards like GT 730 do work in 1.1 slots.).  Check your Intel Chipset specs to see which version is supported.

Edit 2:  I'm now thinking that all M58 had version 2.0 PCIe. M58 did have 2 generations of Intel processors, but I believe the Chipset stayed the same.

I have a ThinkCentre m58P and have tried 2 cards in the machine to no avail. One just wasnt recognised the other gave bios bleeps. I want to turn this PC into a media streamer from as NAS server and need a HDMI output compatible Graphics card for this machine? Can anyone recommend whats on the whitelist or fully functions wih the M58p?

A:ThinkCentre M58p Graphics Card Whitelist

Can't recommend a card, but just wanted to make sure you knew that you don't have to have a graphics card with an HDMI port on it. The signaling for HDMI and DVI are identical, just different connectors. I have a cable that has a male DVI connector on one end and a male HDMI connector on the other. I connect from the DVI port of an ADD-2R card directly to my TV. There are also DVI/HDMI converters that accomplish this same task using the converter and a standard HDMI cable. Check the parts listing for your machine on the support site to see which graphics cards are supported for your model.

Hello, I had an old [but reliable] ThinkCentre M58p lying around and I recently thought of upgrading it [for a media center with a some gaming capabilties] from, some more, aging [but working] parts I have. So:1. I've replaced the Intel dual E8400 3Ghz with a quad Q9650 3Ghz [I have a 95W HSF] - Works perfectly2. Replaced the stock PSU with a 620Watts, SeaSonic - Works flawlessly3. Installed windows 10 and all the devices4. Finally, installed a EVGA GTX 770 2Gb into the PCI-E slot - This is the weird issue part Now, for the PCI-E card to get recognized during the boot, I had to switch the main output form IGD [Integrated Graphics Device] to PEG [PCI Express Graphics], and it works! The system boots up from the PCI-E slot, and with the drivers installed, everything works and looks great. Easy, or so it seems... As soon as I restart the PC there's no signal, from the PCI-E slot anymore, and in order to boot again from the PCI-E card, I have to:- pull the card out- boot the machine from the onboard VGA [no need to change the BIOS settings though]- shut down- plug the PCI-E card back in- turn it on Then it works again. Games run great, the PC is cool and quiet. Until I power it off... Each time, I have to repeat the process in order to get a signal from the PCI-E slot... Has anyone happened to come across this kind of issue and knows the cause for this? BTW, I've tried a different card [GTX 570] and the results were the same. Also, sta... Read more

Hello everyone, I've seen a few threads about similar issues, but here goes: I recently purchased a Thinkcentre m93p from the Lenovo Outlet for a very good price. I used to work with desktops and graphics cards but had switched to laptops for maybe 10 years or so. It seems that the landscape has changed quite a bit with manufacturers whitelisting parts and putting in proprietary power supplies and other complete nonsense.  I am hoping to do a few things with my new desktop in particular: install an SSD and more memory, upgrade the power supply, and upgrade the graphics card. I am comfortable installing the memory and I think I can figure out the SSD. My questions really have to do with the power supply and graphics card. I'd like to install an ATX power supply because I can't seem to find any TFX power supplies that have sufficient wattage and a pci-e 6-pin connector. I know some others have done this, and that it requires a 24-pin to 14-pin connector (which I've ordered). Does the ATX supply fit in the case? Or does it require modification? Or does it need to sit outside the case? As for graphics cards, I've ordered this one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8905320 I think it can run off the 280-watt power supply included, but now I'm concerned that it might be too big for the tower case and/or not on Lenovo's whitelist. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Is there a way to get around th... Read more

A:Thinkcentre M93p Upgrades

I run a Gigabyte 750 Ti in my M91p tower with an upgraded ATX power supply (which fits in the case provided they aren't too long, and works with the converter [M92 and later] - best to get a semi-modular supply as there's limited room in the case for unused cables.)   The Gigabyte looks quite a bit shorter than the one you ordered, check the specs.

I also added the front fan (easy to do on the M93 - download and refer to the Hardware Maintenance manual - a standard 92mm fan with rubber mounts will work) and ventilated PCI slot covers at the back to help dissipate heat from the graphics card. Check the readme file for the Nvidia driver on the Lenovo website for this system for the list of supported cards.   And no, there isn't a way around the white list, otherwise it wouldn't be a white list.

A:Thinkcentre E73 sff's motherboard supported cpu upgrades?

Copied (and edited) from another thread, but applies to your system:

Other ThinkCentre owners have had decent success upgrading to specific processors that had been installed at the factory during it's entire lifecycle.   (Update to the latest BIOS before any hardware or OS upgrade enough ahead of time to ensure the BIOS is good)

A good indicator of whether a processor upgrade can work is to Google your system type and 4-digit model number (for example 'Edge 71, 1578'), if you find a matching system with a processor that you are interested in using, then on 2 browser pages with Lenovo support, input the full 7-digit model numbers to both systems, go to the BIOS download page, and if they have the exact same BIOS filename, then there's high confidence that motherboards and related technology is the same/compatible, and the other processor will work in your system.

I did that after I found the 1578-L4U system on Google.  And I have high confidence that a i5-2500S will work.   Specifically that 'S' processor.   Because one i5-2500 variant works, does not mean others will, unless they are able to go through the above process as well.   'K's are not used by Lenovo on ThinkCentres, and I doubt they will work.

A Lenovo motherboard is not like a Asus or Gigabyte where you can install any processor that will work with the installed Chipset.

1. Is it possible to upgrade my current Power Supply from 230 watts to something along the lines of 500 Watts?

2. Am I able to remove the Motherboard and place it in this new case? XG Viper Blue and Black 10-Bay ATX Window Case w/500W PSU

Seeing as that case comes with a 500 Watt ATX Power Supply

3. Will my Motherboard work with it? ex. Wont have any issues/fry my Motherboard

4. What Form Factor is the IBM Thinkcentre A50p case and the Power Supply? ex. ATX, Micro ATX

5. Am I able to purchase a higher wattage Power Supply, must it be purchased from IBM or can I purchase from anywhere as long as it meets the form factor?

To make a long story short, I know this is a business PC/Office PC but im a struggling College Student and would like to turn this PC into a temporary Gaming PC, plan on buying an Nvidia 6800 for it, will this work/fit?

Regarding the 3040 MT. The I-5 6500 version. The 3040 MT lists a PSU of 240 watts. I want to add a GPU. The Dell Social Media Support guy (from the Dell forums) said that the Nvidia GT 745 was one of the video cards tested.
Nvidia's site lists the GT 745 as a 55 watt GPU with a 300 watt PSU requirement for that 745 card. Yet the Dell team found no problems with the GT745. Can someone explain this for me?
I want to upgrade the GPU, but do not want to wreck something by doing so. The GPU card I really want is the GTX 1050 which is a 75 watt card but all other parameters are the same as the 745. Mechanically it will fit perfectly. The only issue is the wattage.
Second, is there some listed PSU upgrades available? Or perhaps adapters for aftermarket PSU's? How difficult is it if I wanted to upgrade to a more powerful PSU? Does Dell have that option with this computer?
I spent 32 hopeless minutes on Dell's support phone line listening to people read out specs from the sales brochure. Nobody, even in so called "tech support" could answer the questions.
Can ANYONE here please help me on this?

A:Optiplex 3040 MT Mini Tower Question about PSU upgrades and GPU Upgrades

Our OEM (original equipment manufacturer) customized GeForce GT 745 X61TN is not the same card as the retail GeForce GT 745. The memory and clock settings may differ. That is the difference. But it is easy to remove our 240w PSU (power supply unit) and install a higher wattage PSU. Read through the Owner's Manual. It has instructions on how to do this. The retail Geforce GTX 1050 needs at least a 300w PSU. Another 3040 owner will need to post a retail PSU that has worked.

Check out both the Kingston and Crucial memory websites for your specific model for what is possible for memory upgrades.

Both companies have a 100% guarantee (and lifetime warranty) for system model specific memory to be compatible with that system and it's factory memory.

But because I have Intel(R) Q45/Q43 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) video card, there are no drivers updates for windows 10 which means I either I get a new video card, or downgrade back to Win 7 (Which I do not want.) SO the only option is to upgrade my video cards, but sadly I don't know which ones are compatible and which ones are not. This is what I need help on. The PC details are attached.

Hi all, new to the forum. Would like to upgrade my M58p (7373) tower graphics card, from at present a Geforce GTX 650ti (2 GB ver) and replace it with a single slot nvidia Quadro K4000. mainly because the dual slot geforce card is covering a much needed 1x pci slot. Is anyone else using a Quadro 4000 or Quadro K4000 card successfully in there socket 775 motherboard? The quadro K4000 has the same GPU (K106) as the geforce GTX650ti that is in my Thinkcenter already. My concern, as I understand, that the drivers for the quadro are different than drivers for the geforce. Will those drivers work on this motherboard? I'm of the impression that quadro card drivers were designed for Xeon processor motherboards. I do NLE using Adobe CC, and utilize the cuda cores (768) for mercury playback engine using the GTX 650ti, providing a much improved response during editing. I have searched the forum and have found a list of certified compatible GTX cards, however no list of quadro cards. Presently the system is flawless. If it were'nt for my need for that pci slot under the dual slot graphics card, I wouldn't change a thing. I only do 1280 X 720 resolutiion editing so the K106 gpu is more than sufficient. I use Handbrake to convert and cleanup footage for the highest bitrate this motherboard can provide, which is about 28Mb/s (or 3.5 MB/s). I have had this computer for 5 years, upgraded cpu from Core2Duo E7300 to a Core2Quad 6600 (1066 FSB), 4GB of ram to 8GB of ram (max).... Looking to upgrade the ram on this thinkcentre m58p 6137 for an elderly old boy. I'm not at all familiar with lenovo pic so need a little help.  It currently has 4gb (2x2gb) pc3 8500. Only thinking of increasing to 8gb. What is the fastest compatible memory for this model?

I suggest you check the Kingston and Crucial Memory websites for 2x 2GB (which will get you to 8GB) upgrades for your specific M58p model.

My ThinkCentre M58p 7484 is running BIOS 5CKT77AUS.  It apparently will not support USB 3.0.  When I tried to install a PCIE 3.0 card, the BIOS would load but Windows 7 Pro would not.  Is there anyway to get around this problem and, if not, is the BIOS scheduled for an update?

Hi, I have this PC, but I can't see on his motherboard does he have COM header. I need 2 COM ports on the motherboard, because they're powerful enough to talk to ESC/POS printers which are 25-30m away.

Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your particular system model, M58p is the system type, the model will be a 4-digit number, like 6137.    Find the port and connector diagram for the motherboard.

I have been surfing the lenovo website for an hour or more and I'm just in a loop. The website detected my computer model and serial # but won't let me add it to my products, because the serial # is wrong. I bought this refurbished in April 2017 (can't find the receipt but that's when I registered at Lenovo website.) There are several stickers with possible s/n s on them.It works fine I just need to know what I'd need to do to switch from connecting to my home network with an ethernet cable to going wireless. My cable co gave me a device with 2 ports for ethernet and I need 3, and this is the best candidate (maybe)Thanks, I'm kind of an elderly luddite, but I'm hooked on gaming.Keith

Download the CD ISO file, and 'burn' to a CD.   Boot from that CD, you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS if it doesn't go to that drive before the HD.   It may ask if you want to change the model and serial number, reply No.

Burn a Disc Image from an ISO or IMG file in Windows 7
