I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Xdelx, Welcome to PCHF!

To be honest both of those systems seem pretty low end. What is your budget for a new computer?

Here are the general Elgato Game Capture HD System Requirements.

? Windows 7, Windows 8 or later
? 2.0 Ghz (or higher) dual core CPU, or 2.0 Ghz (or higher) multi-core i3, i5 or i7 CPU
? Sound card
? 4GB Total Installed RAM (or higher)
? Built-in USB 2.0 port

You should get a computer that is well above the minimum system requirements. You may be able to run the software with either of those systems but not particularly well.

My Elgato HD 60 has what i call a glitch no clue what its actually called, but static pops up on the preview screen and it records it like that static and no audio. If you know how to fix that then thank you that would help a lot.

My real question is, is my processor to weak for the capture to work. I have a Intel Pentium CPU G2020 @ 2.90GHz. The system requirements for CPU are 4th generation Intel Core i5 CPU (i5-4xxx or comparable), 2 Ghz or higher, before Turbo Boost.

I really dont know much about computers so i dont know how to figure out almost any of this stuff.

I have a home made computer. Please note that i did not make it, I am not very tech-y. It has windows xp.
I just bought an Elgato Game Capture HD so i can play video games and put them on youtube.
the Elgato does not support windows xp, it does support windows 7 sp1.
My questions is what can i do?
I have all of the programs that i need on my computer already. I dont really want to spend another some-hundred dollars on a new computer and the programs and whatever else i might need. Just want to know my options. If i need to spend money on a new computer or something, please assist me with what to look for -cheaply. If i need to get a new computer, i would prefer a laptop, though this is not a necessity.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and hoping to find some help, my PC runs fine without issues untill i try to run elgato software, when i do i get a blue screen of death, always at the same point, it used to work fine untill about a week ago, then one day i opened the program and it crashed, i tried to uninstall and it would crash again, i tried to install afresh and everytime it gets to the same point and then BSOD, the software programme no longer shows up in my apps list, the hardware no longer shows up in OBS either.
I'm at a loss and don't want to do a reboot and start again.
I have attached a file that may shed some light on this issue.

Hey, recently I got myself an Elgato HD60 Pro. Without thinking (stupid me), I bought it and found out I have to put it in an I BELIEVE PCI-E 2 slot. But anyways, the slot is directly underneath the slot my GPU is placed. Now, my GPU is pretty big due to the fan meaning it blocks of the slot for my Elgato, meaning I can't plug both my Elgato and my GPU in at the same time.

My GPU doesn't have USB (I've seen a few PCI risers online but they all need USB as far as I understand). Is there a way to - without getting a new motherboard etc - get them both in (I thought of some extension thing for my GPU so I can place my GPU somewhere without directly putting it in the slot)

Sorry if this is messy written, hopefully it's understandable. I have no experience with hardware whatsoever.

I have absolutely no Idea how to fix this,

The only settings I changed is the resolution:
I put it at [email protected] (with allowance to use 60fps or whatever that tick box was).
When fast movements are made in game, when I record for example and I jump and fall off a car roof, as shown in this video I made (https://youtu.be/refYFmQPooc). You see very early on in that video what I am talking about.

Just today I got an Elgato Game Capture HD so that I could record myself on YouTube playing XBOX 360, XBOX 1 and Retro Game Consoles. I installed the latest version of the Elgato Game Capture software which required me to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 and also required some sort of update for Windows 7. I also downloaded the latest version of the Elgato Game Capture HD Driver. I then opened up the Elgato Game Capture software only to find that it didn't recognize my Elgato Capture device. I went into the Device Manager only to find that there was a yellow ! under the Elgato Game Capture device. I double clicked it to see what the issue was and it gave me the Code 52 error. I tried typing something in CMD to solve the problem but that didn't help. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but that didn't help. I know that the Device itself is not broken because when a console is hooked up to it then it would show on my HDMI monitor and Retro consoles are included.

I originally submitted a ticket to Elgato about this issue a few days ago, but was just told that my PC's specs weren't new enough to use this device. The ticket I submitted reads as follows:
"Hi. I recently installed an Elgato 4K60 Pro in my PC (replacing my outdated Hauppauge HDPVR60) to record footage at 4K 60FPS OR 1080p60FPS from my Xbox One X and am currently experiencing some serious issues with playback, making the footage that I record almost unwatchable.
When attempting to record in any of the given resolutions listed in the drop down menu of the 4K Capture Utility (even 720), the preview window always seems to appear choppy and is constantly stuttering. I first thought that this choppy-ness was just part of the preview window and that the footage would sort of 'work itself out' upon actual playback (opening the file in some sort of media player once I had stopped recording) but I was wrong. After opening the file, I found that the stuttering (along with what looked like the footage was being sped up) was still present, as it was in the preview window. I don't have too much experience with Elgato capture devices as this is my first time purchasing one of your products and am curious, am I doing something wrong? I've installed the correct capture software. I've installed the correct drivers for the 4K60 Pro from the official site. When I'm trying to record something in theater mode it looks good and smooth and hd. But when I record it with Elgato it says "deinterlacing" and after that it looks laggy / crappy / not hd. I need to record good Black Ops 2 material with my ps3 / elgato please help me!

A:Elgato Game Capture Device PROBLEM with Black Ops 2 [HELPME!]

Sounds like a configuration issue in your recording software/configuration.

There is no reason to deinterlace the video as it's a progressive signal (ie: 1080P) and you want to record it as a progressive signal (1080P).

As far as cables go, that device doesn't appear to offer an input options. Looks like you should be using an HDMI cable. For the most part, HDMI cables either work or they don't.

A:Elgato Capture Card: Won't capture anythng

I'm not familiar with it. But based on the image, there is no input signal (upper right box - Game Capture HD "no signal").

So the error is likely trying to tell you to change the output video type of whatever you have connected.

I have a custom built desktop at an office, it was running Windows Xp pro with the license glued on the side. At a later time a full license was purchased for windows 7 pro oem, and glued on the side of the computer. The system was wiped and Windows 7 pro freshly installed (not upgraded).
Now a new system with Windows 10 pro was bought to take it's place.
My question is there, the office has a Windows XP Pro laptop, that must be upgraded to Windows 7 pro. Am I able to use that license from that old desktop for Windows 7 Pro on this winxp laptop to install Windows 7 pro? If so, how would I go about doing it? Just an upgrade and use that product key?

A:Transfering license from desktop to laptop, and throwing desktop away

The laptop license will be an OEM copy of the OS, this is managed by the OEM of the laptop and would not be transferable to the new system. the additional win7 laptop is also an OEM license but in this case the support would be the responsibility of your Company IT department.

You need to purchase a new license for the laptop, but, if you can get one an upgrade license would be OK as the XP pro to Windows 7 is a valid upgrade

Hi. I'm a Windows 8 newbie, so go easy on me .

I'm trying to RDP from my new Windows 8 laptop to an XP desktop, both of which are on my home network. When I try, I get the below error...

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network

As best as I can tell, none of the conditions above is true. Here is what I have looked at so far...

- On the XP machine, in System settings / Remote, "Allow users to connect to this system" is Checked. I have successfully RDP'd to this machine in the past, but this is the first time I've tried from the Windows 8 machine.

- From the Windows 8 machine, I can ping the XP machine, and I can access a shared drive on the XP machine. In fact, I've been moving files between the XP machine and the Windows 8 machine, in both directions, all day.

- Just to eliminate another potential issue, I have set the username and password on the Windows 8 machine to match that on the XP machine.

Incidentally, XP machine is running XP Pro, 2002, SP3.

Thanx in advance for any suggestions to diagnose and resolve this.

Okay I have sort of a series of related questions about this let me start by explaining the situation:

My laptop is fried and I've pretty much given up hope trying to fix it. I know it's a hardware issue and I tried disassembling/reassembling it to no avail. At this point I'll be happy if I can recover the files from the HD assuming it's not the HD that is faulty in the first place.

So here are my questions. I already searched the forums here and had one of these partially answered but I need a bit more info. First, as I understand it it would be possible to connect the laptop's HD to my desktop but I would need an adapter to do it right? If I had this adapter, would it be possible to run the laptop HD like an external or would I have to boot directly into it to get the files? My tech knowledge is only mediocre here and I don't know exactly how the hardware all works together.

Second, and this would be most convenient if it works because I could skip the adapter, I want to know if it would work to simply swap the laptop's HD with a different, fully functioning laptop and move the files onto an external HD from there, assuming both laptops use the same connector type (I believe they do both use the same size SATA drives). Again this is really just a question of whether or not the new laptop's hardware would be compatible with the old drive and that there wouldn't be any time consuming formats involved or any data loss or anythi... A:Laptop HD file transfer to desktop or another laptop

Better and much shorter question: What is the best way to move files from the hard disk of a failed laptop to another computer?

Remove the hard disk from the failed laptop. If it is SATA, as you state, take it to any desktop computer with SATA connectors. Connect it there as a secondary drive and burn your files to a DVD.

Or, you could get an external drive enclosure (laptop size), place the drive inside that and connect it to any USB port.

If the old drive is bad/unreadable, none of your or my solutions will help. In that case, you'll have to send it and a lot of your money to a specialist.

Ok first of all thanks to anyone who reads this and I hope I am being as clear as possible.

My desktop computer recently just went all blank white screen on me last night and since I have no idea what to do with it to fix it, I just bought a new laptop. I have a DSL modem from Verizon with only one cable so before I used to just remove it from the desktop and plug it into my other laptop to use the internet. I did this last night with the new laptop as well, and this morning I tried to connect to the internet on the new laptop and it said could not connect to the internet, no matter what website I tried, I decided to try plugging the DSL line into the OLD laptop to see if it was the internet, but it works on the old laptop just fine, and was working on the new laptop yesterday just fine. Can someone please help me? I do not understand why the old laptop works 100% perfectly and never had a virus, but every new computer I get seems to be "crap" (pardon my language) Any thoughts????

A:DSL cable works for desktop and laptop but not the new laptop ;\

Connect to the old laptop and get the Internet working and connected, then I'd like to see this.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

After that, connect to the new laptop, reboot the laptop and then post the same thing from the new laptop.

I am using a Toshiba laptop A105-S4104 and a desktop computer both using XP Professional with both on the same two computer network. I have identical programs on both. I have seen this done by making the desktop monitor into a half screen then bringing the laptop screen to the other half of the desktop. Can you explain how this is done? Many thanks.

A:Combing Laptop and Desktop monitor screens on desktop monitor

Hey There! Welcome to the forum!

I believe you possible mean remote desktop (Microsoft Terminal Services Client) however i dont think you can drag files between windows.

The best way of doing it with both pcs on the network would be to open my documents and type in the address bar "\\OTHER-COMPUTER-NAME\C$" that will give you access to the c drive on the other pc depending on Firewall settings.

To find your PC name right click on my computer and click properties. Then click the computer name tab. Your computer name will be shown next to 'Full Computer Name:'

Hi I'd appreciate some advice please: we've been using a home-built (not by us!) desktop pc with Win98SE for about 4 years. This is our first computer so it's been fine while we get to grips with emailing, internet, typing etc! In the meantime we have aquired 3 2ndhand laptops, one of which has now died, the 2nd my 13yo son is playing with installing various Linux programmes, the 3rd has Win98P2 which I haven't looked at yet.
The trouble is that the desktop pc is becoming unreliable (even after my son recently added another larger harddrive, and has me running Ubuntu on it,- which I like - alongside WIndows - which I don't like! - but we are thinking that we should give in and buy a new...what?? I don't see any to discuss on Desktop vs Laptop.

Which are you personally to use by Desktop or laptop? Why or why not?

A:Desktop vs Laptop

I use both but prefer the desktop with the 22" screen. I only use the laptop outside the house or when I need a lot of processing power (e.g. for video editing). With the i7 and a 1GB graphics it is my most powerful system.

What I hate on the laptop is the trackpad - never use it. I use a mouse with a trackball which is a lot more convenient. On the desktop I do not use a mouse. I use a keyboard with trackball.

Hi, How are you?

I am going to University in September and was wondering what people would recommend, as I am doing a Computer Science course. I am staying at home and a Uni in my home city.

Would it be better getting a Desktop and a Low powered laptop just for little task and use the better computers at uni or getting a mid powered laptop and no desktop??

Thanks in advance

hi there

its just a question of how important portability is to you. laptops are great especially with the advent of mobile broadband but can be tricky if parts fail inside such as the fan, motherboard or AC adaptor connector

i find that desktops are easier and cheaper to repair but thats just my opinion

Is this AIO considered laptop or desktop?  There are Airplane mode and Laptop settings in Windows 10 on this PC.  Airplane and Laptop settings do not appear in my other HP  PC which is a tower/monitor.  Also, Thunderbird sets up the email settings for Charter automatically with "mobile" settings on this PC (which worked) but I manually changed the Charter inbound and outbound settings to their desktop settings (which also worked).  Why does Win 10 and Thunderbird seeing this AIO as a mobile device?

Hi: The AIO pc is considered a desktop PC but it is mainly constructed of laptop parts such as the memory and hard drive. The only reason it is classified as a desktop PC is that it is not a mobile device in the sense that it does not have a battery like a notebook PC has, so it can be disconnected from an electrical outlet and used anywhere.

Basically I have a desktop computer that I want to act as a VPN server, and I want the laptop to be able to have remote access to the desktop network from just an internet connection elsewhere.

I have set up a VPN using the Windows 7 built in wizard, but what IP address should I use on my laptop when trying to connect? Should it just be my router IP? I tried entering that but got an error 800...

Do I have to sign up to some kind of VPN hosting site to obtained an address to connect to?

Help is very much appreciated!

A:Trying to set up a VPN between laptop and desktop

Lanky0, I highly recommend Hamachi as a free vpn which works great and will do what you want.
The logmein people own the Hamachi vpn program.

is one place to take a look at the free hamachi program.
I have been using it for over 10 years and it works great. They have a paid version if you want more capabilities but the free works fine.

I'm in the process to become a licensed DJ, and I just need a few opinions on this: Should I use a Desktop or a Laptop for my music etc?

For instance, a laptop is portable and have a battery to power it in case of a power surge or something, but a decent one with alot of hdd space also cost alot.

A desktop is not so portable, but it's much cheaper than a laptop with the same specs and a desktop with the right chassis will have very effective cooling. It's also cheaper to have 4tb+ hdd space on a desktop than a laptop, and I will really need alot of hdd space seeing that I will have tons of music as well as music videos.

Any input on this will be great.

A:HP laptop HDD to desktop HDD

Yes you can do that. The best way is to make the laptop HDD becoming external as it is the easiest way. You will need to buy an external box for HDD and make the connection inside and it will be connected by USB. Thus you can take it where you want without any problem.

Hello Tech Support Guy Community,

[heads up, this may seem like a problem in the game thread but I strongly believe this thread will do better]

Before I start here are my specs:
Windows 10 Home
Intel Core i7-3635 QM CPU @ 2.4GHz
8 GB Ram
64 Bit Operating System
Touch Support(10 points)
1TB hard drive space
I wanted to download a play a PC game (Battlefront). When I check the specs of the game it turns out to be too oversized in the room on my laptop. So I was wondering if it is possible to use my Desktop's hard drive and ram and all that while using my laptop's windows and screen and all that. I'll need this for other things like animating or other stuff like that. Is there a way I can use a cable or anything. All help would be appreciated.

A:Desktop to Laptop

So you're asking if you can use your laptop screen but your desktops hardware? AFAIK, that is not possible.

Anyway, would you prefer a desktop or a laptop?

Right now I'm satisfied with my desktop, but when the time comes for it, I will move on to a laptop since it's more capable of travelling

A:Desktop or Laptop?

Hello Peter Hurry, welcome to the forum.

Choosing between a laptop and desktop can be a difficult decision. The bottom line comes down to portability. If you will need or use the portability of a laptop, then it can be a powerful tool for you and worth the extra money.

Laptops have a great advantage in terms of their portability. If you carry a laptop with you, your applications and documents are always immediately available. With a wireless card, your laptop can also access the Internet while on the go, so you have more places to do research, check your email, and be more productive.

Desktops offer other advantages. Although laptop prices have come down and performance has increased, most desktops offer a better price-to-performance ratio. Desktops also still hold some ergonomic advantages over laptops.

So finally I can say that your decision should be based primarily on how you plan to use your computer and the size of your computing budget. Lastly, the choice is yours. Evaluate and review your computing needs and decide what's best for you.

Hi there,

I hope this is not a stupid question. LOL.

I have an Acer laptop 6930, running on Windows Vista. I also have an old Dell desktop which runs on Windows 2000. I need to burn some DVD's and Blu Ray Disc.

Question is- Can I buy a new DVD/Blu Ray internal drive, install the drive to the body of the Desktop, hook up my laptop and desktop together, and use the laptop as the primary operating system to operate the burner??? There is a blu ray/DVD burner available at Best Buy but is only internal, not external.

Will this work?

I have a standard DVD burner on the laptop but it is soooo slow and will not burn Blu Ray either.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Can I use my old desktop and laptop together??

You can't do ot that way, but you could network them and share files between them . .
