Adaptec DirectCD STINKS!

Q: Adaptec DirectCD STINKS!

I have been here, done this before, still need some advice.

I am using DirectCD 3.01C, on a PentiumII, 450 Mhz, Gateway PC with 256Mb RAM, and using a HP 9100 CD Burner. My Norton AV is updated weekly, so I know I don't have a virus.

I reformatted about a month ago because of this same problem. [you can look up my past letter on TSG] It was suggested I reformat the C: drive by a PC tech at a computer store after he played with my PC for a couple days, charged me $213, and didn't do a thing for me.

After I reformatted and reinstalled Adaptec DirectCD, I could copy small files and photographs neatly to a CD-RW and I could copy full CDs to CD-Rs with no problems. (I could alway copy full CDs with CloneCd without any problems.) Single file copying worked fine up until about yesterday, then I started getting the same problem ~ Adaptec DirectCD would not recognize an already formatted CD-RW with files on it. If it did recognize it, it would take a very, very long time to try to copy those few little files [10 to 300 kb long] and then it would quit with the standard error [it has become standard to me, I see it so much] "...this CD has an unrecoverable read/write error, you should move all your files off this disk, blah, blah, blah..."

Any suggestions or ideas out there? Am I one of the few [or many] that is beginning to think that this technology or the software is still in it's infancy and is not a really good way to backup or do I need another software product that is reliable and will do what I want?

I keep adding to and I have a few thousand photgraphs we have taken that I try to keep backed up on a CD-RW. I just helped install an Iomega 250 MB Zip Drive on a friend's PC. I also installed a neat backup program that does it all automatically behind the scenes. Should I just buy a Zip drive as they seem much, much more reliable and this hassle with Adaptec is taking up much more time than I care to waste.

Any help or ideas out there....

Thanks a lot folks....

I recommend downloading and trying SP Photo Recovery. It will help find and retrieve your lost files.

I've used it in the past to recover photos, music, videos, and other multimedia files, regardless if the file has been deleted, lost, damaged or corrupted.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/UDbKNE. (This link will open the download page so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm running win98.I installed adaptec DirectCD and then uninstalled it. Recently, I tried to reinstall it and it said it detects a previous version installed and says I need to uninstall it before I can install it again. Its already uninstalled.
I see a key in the registry but when i delete it, it just comes back..
Need help on what to do to get this thing to think that I don't have it installed...so i can install it.
Please respond...

A:Adaptec directCD

sometimes when you install a program, it creates a temporary log file. That file is usually deleted when done, but sometimes, not. Adaptec may be detecting that file (if it still exists). Do you remember when you installed adaptec? If so, do a search on your drive for all files from that time and see if you can recognize one of them as the adaptec file - I'm not sure what the extension will be. If you find it, delete it then retry your installation.

I wonder how many thousand users are impacted by this screw up?

Many Win98 systems used Adaptec DirectCD s/w to burn CD's. I use this setup to create backups using the fast format. If I now move to XP, there is no known s/w which will read my backup files. And, I dont want to abandon the backup files.

Roxio, who bought Adaptec and who sell the follow on product called 'Easy Creator' advise me that Easy Creator will not read these Adaptec burned files. Nero s/w does not solve the problem. XP wont read them.

Some options are;

a) retain a Win98 system only for backups.
b) read the backup files on a Win98 system, then rewrite using Nero etc.
c) read the backup files to an external hard drive, then move hard drive to the XP system.

Does anyone have an easy answer to this problem?

...on the final step of burning a CD.

So I've copied all the data I want to a CD-R in an internal drive (Mitsumi CR-4802TE), using ACDSee file management in Win 98.
Using Adaptec DirectCD Wizard 2.0a, I instruct it to "Organize the disc so that it can be read in most stndard CD-ROM drives ..." and I also check off "Protect disc so it cannot be written to again."

Adaptec goes on to "collect information for standard CD-ROM access ..." and "Writing information for standard CD-ROM access," while assuring me that my CD will be absolutely perfect in another 2 or 3 minutes.

During this final step the program puts up a box titled "Error: close track" and reports "illegal request 0x8052c00."

On a second attempt to close out the disc, a similar message comcs up reporting "The track reserved for ISO-9660 is damaged (0x8000000e)."

Dudes, I have a 55 MB MS Publisher file that absolutely has to be at the printer by Thursday. How do I get a good disc in their hands?

I got a CD-RW. If I pop in a CD-R in there, no problem, I can record whatever data I want. The minute I try to FORMAT a CD-RW tho'... that's too much to ask. Mr. Wizard tells me "Medium Not Ready" or "...damaged" or "...unreadable", "Hey, how 'bout running the ol' Adaptec DirectCD SCANDISK? That'll set you right!" which of course I do, but then it says "Scandisk is unable to access the disk. The disc may be severely damaged or your drive may have stopped functionning due to an earlier failure. What say you try to reboot - that always helps..." But I got a whole BOX of CD-RW's and it says the same thing for ALL of them. I rebooted, I laid the hands on and prayed, invoked gardian angels and performed exorcisms - nothing works. Save my gear from thorough and meticulous destruction at my annoyed hand - help!

A:Adaptec DirectCD not formatting CD-RW's - must destroy idiotic equipment.

I have a Compaq Presario that I've had for about 5 years. I still have Windows 98 SE and I have a CD-R/CD-RW Drive. Recently I have been trying to burn some CDs and the CD will start having problems on about the 3rd song out of lets say 15 everytime. Then a few days later I left my computer alone for a minute, when I came back it was frozen. When I restarted it said that some changes took place on my system. Then when Windows rebooted all the way I look at the little icon and theres a red circle with a line through it over my F drive symbol. When I put my mouse over it, it says "Adaptec DirectCD Wizard, No supported CD-R/CD-RW drive!" Now the drive won't even open when I press the button. What could be wrong with it, or how could I possibly fix it .

Adaptec 1205SA new drivers and BIOS here.

Here's the new stuff in case you don't want to read the old topic :

-Adaptec support doesn't understand that Silicon Image is the maker of the chipset and drivers, and therefore reply me that there are no new drivers. Silicon Image has everything you need to update the card.

-The 1205SA should work with Vista(There's still a driver problem, even though the latest are compatible), and can be flashed to RAID, it's going to be the same card as the more expensive 2 port SATA 1 model Adaptec makes, but at half the price.

The BIOSes can be found here:

The Drivers here(Every OSes listed):

Instructions(Pretty basic, but still):
-Get and install the new drivers first(make sure you select the good one between RAID and non-RAID), they contain a flash utility in the "Silicon Image SATA Controllers" control panel and the device settings in the device manager, which the original driver doesn't have.

To install the drivers without modifying the files every time they are updated, manually update them : Click Update Drivers, click no when it asks to look on Windows Update, chose to specify the place where the drivers are, click that you'll choose the drivers to install, click "Have Disk...", se... A:Adaptec's 1205SA users, here's what I sent to Adaptec

I succefully updated the BIOS on my card(It boots faster now). Here's what I've done:

using UPDBIOS utility, I typed "Adaptec SATA Host Controller 1205SA" after selecting 2 lines title and changed subsystem vendor to 9005 and Subsystem Product Id to 0250, what seem to be the Adaptec IDs from the original driver INF file.

For the driver, I modified the INF files a bit.

To update your BIOS, you will need the latest driver. I still got no news from Adaptec(I post the mail 4 hours ago) letting me know that they'll post the new BIOS on their site, so flash it only if you're REALLY sure you want to because if they don't, you will ruin your warranty.

For the driver, download this : (In the right frame)
and extract the content of driver-custom over it. Also, you will have to copy si3112.sys and name the copy si3112.mpd for win9x/me. I haven't had time to correct this bug from the older version INF file, which isn't in the new one.

BIOS is in the ZIP file. Flash it from the control panel SiliconImage ATA Controllers.

Not sure if I'm writing for help in the correct category. Please let me know if I'm in the wrong place. I would also like to add that I am completely pc illiterate.

I recently lost my web cam connection. I've installed & reinstalled everything several times with no avail. I've even done a system recovery (boy was I was sweating when I did that) Thought that was the end of my pc! My friend is on a Mac notebook and is using aim 4.7 whom I am trying to connect with and I'm on a pc, (windows xp) Our connection (when we were able to connet a while back) was always very lousy but at least we were able to connect somewhat. We are both stay at home moms and we both really miss our web cam connection. I've tried to connect via aol, aim, aim 6.0 and aim pro which all did not work. I've called Labtec (web cam people) and they told me to call aol. I've called aol and they told me to call Labtec.

Any suggestions?

I have an Epson Stylus c80 inkjet printer that has never given me a good color print job. Mostly I always get those vertical bands and lines running through. I know that's probably a common thing, but I've tried every utility to solve it - the head cleaning, nozzle cleaning, etc. Nothing works. This has gone on since the day I brought it home, about 2 yrs ago. I only use Epson cartridges. I've contacted Epson..they just tell me to use Epson cartridges..I tell them I DO!..they just repeat themselves..so no help there.

I researched printers pretty thoroughly and thought I was getting a great printer. Now I don't trust myself! Any recommendations for a printer that does a good, reliable color printing? I've hung in with this disaster as long as I can.

I'm NOT doing any high-quality photo-type printing at all - - I'm just talking about printing quick, small things like jewel case covers, or things I do in Paint, or small pictures from the internet. The color itself is okay, but it's the bands and lines running vertically through them that are always present and I cannot solve. That's what I want to avoid in a new printer.

Got the new FF update last night, what a bummer!!!  Many book marks disappeared, the look and feel has changed much to my dislike.  I wonder if I can revert to the last version?  Is anyone else not happy???

A:New Fire Fox Stinks!

My Firefox v56 updated yesterday to v57. My 'add-ons',the ones that i deem important ie. Ad-blocker & Privacy Badger were still there,so on that count everything was ok.
However, regarding the hoped for increase in broswer speed - it simply hasn't materialised !. It's as slow as v56,which was never that bad that i lost sleep over it.
All my bookmarks are still in place,& the only thing that seems to have changed is the Homepage appearance. All in all,a waste of time - at the moment. I'll await further updates in the hope that eventually Firefox v57 will live up to the months  of 'hype'
I had 'Auto update' turned on & it didn't update on the 14th. I turned auto UD 'off' & then had to turn it back on again for v57 to install, which it did within seconds.
I suppose to give Mozilla the benefit of the doubt - this is a brand new version,'relatively' untried except for the Beta version,so we should expect a few glitches. However, since most of the hype was about 'speed' - i'd have expected that to be there from the first second it went live - it wasn't. Just something else that's been 'improved worse' !!!. (At the moment)

I can't open a installasion, it closes change or remove programs, it closes most of the stuff!! Even it's own settings!!! So I'm asking if I can delete the DEP. Can I?

A:Data Execution Prevention Stinks

First make sure you are installing known good software (not something questionable).

You can disable DEP for the software you are installing by going to System Properties > Advanced tab > Performance settings button > Data Execution Prevention tab > tick the button for Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select. Then Add the program you are having trouble with.

You can also completely disable DEP for all programs by editing the boot.ini file (C:\boot.ini) by changing /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN to /NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSOFF. You must reboot for the change to take effect.

Last week i brought my 2.5 yrs old T440 to Lenovo Bugis suppt center to replace a cracked LCD back cover (one fine day i noticed a crack along the righthand side hinge and after opening, the cover was hard to close & open!). I had a queue tkt that said waiting tme approx 5 mins, but it took 20 mins for the front desk asst to call me. He rightly said the warranty had expired and they need to charge me $50 (+gst) to assess how much it would cost to fix it. When i asked what they want to assess as the laptop was working fine, he said in that case i should pay $30 - to source for the broken part and only after that they can tell how much would the total repair cost be! To me, it didn't make sense as they are the 'makers', but the guy started explaining the parts are made by 3rd party suppliers and and that's the process they hv to follow for 'older' models! Then another colleague of him came to explain, but he also couldn't tell me the rational for not able to tell me upfront the charge for replacing a 'highly visible' broken part! They are cheats in my opinion!! As online gaming grows in popularity ESET researchers found that cybersecurity measures haven't kept pace as 36 percent gamers reported actively turning off security software if they found it was slowing down their computer.

The study, conducted by Google Consumer Surveys, polled 500 gamers and found that 52 percent of respondents said they don't even use security software on their gaming computers, according to a Sept. 13 blog post.

Gamers stated numerous reasons for their lack cybersecurity hygiene with 20 percent saying they don't need it, 13 percent saying they don't like they pop ups, 12 percent saying it slowed down their computers, and eight percent saying that it interrupts their gaming experience.

Researchers warn whenever security settings are disabled, users run the risk of malware stealing their login credentials and using gaming accounts for malicious activity which could lead to the legitimate user getting banned from the gaming platform for someone else's actions.

The stolen accounts could be used for botting, item farming, and other activities without the account owner's knowledge.

When I log on to either of my computers (both running XP) a bubble pops up and tells me that "DirectCD will cause windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading. Click here for more details."
When I clicked I was told that an upgrade was available for me at this url but the url took me to roxio's home page and i could not find any upgrade related to my problem. What's wrong and how can i fix it?

I have seen quite a few brand-new, never-used Gateways that display this message. Unfortunately, it was not possible to upgrade or uninstall and reinstall. And there was an update, but Roxio gave a warning that the update could prevent booting and gave an update to the update that you were supposed to use if you couldn't boot (But how to install it if you couldn't boot, they didn't explain).

Ultimately, it required removing all the drivers and program files manually.

The process being quite tedious, do you want/need DirectCD and do you use it? Packet writing is really unnecessary on modern computers and you'd be better off without it, but if you want to use it, we can work on that, too. You don't need to agree with me to get help .

Do you have Roxio burning software installed and do you use it? How/when did the problem start?

What have you tried so far?

I'm a newbie here - this is my first post. I have a WinXP home edition here, when it powers up I get a warning that a DirectCD driver could make windows unstable. Clicking the warning gives me the following message:

>Issue Description:
>A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your >system. This driver will be disabled, please contact the driver >manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version >of Windows.

>Contact Information:
>Available Patch: >http://www.roxio.com/en/support/dcdwin/dcdwinupdates.html

That link doesn't work. I tried downloading the current version from Roxio, it says "No qualified Roxio product can be detected".

The CD burner reads CDs ok, but when a CD-RW is put in the drive it says "A disc has been inserted that requires the Adaptec UDF Reader", and wants to start an install wizard. Whether or not I click "yes", nothing happens.

Windows Explorer shows the disc has udfrinst.exe and an autorun.inf, but on another machine I can verify that the disc REALLY has lots of my files on it.

Help! Can anyone advise me? There are some DirectCD keys in the registry - would it be safe to kill them all? The registry is kinda big - is there any freeware software that can do that for me?
Any suggestions?

I can explain what is happening; but, your fix will have to come from Roxio. There is an alternative: you could switch to Nero or NTI CD Maker and maybe their CD-RW driver will work better.

Rewritables require a special driver not built into Windows. This driver is usually furnished in your CD writer software. Yours is probably outdated--not designed for XP--simply an older version.

Hello All,

I have had alot of problems with this computer. I basically had to set my computer back to Nov. 2000. So needless to say I lost alot of things. I had Roxio DirectCD but for some reason it shows up on my icon tray but has a Circle with a slash through it. When I run my mouse over it it says DirectCD No suppoerted drive. Apparenly my son had put this on the computer before but I can't find the CD for it.

Does anyone have any suggestions???

I can't seem to use DirectCD after I have reinstalled windows. It is saying that it can't find my CD-RW drive. And I can't read the CD that was formatted by DirectCD when DirectCD is not installed. Also way can't I listen to the Audio CD that I have burned, I used Easy Creator to burn it so it should work right?

Why is it when I format a CDRW cd with DirectCD 5.3 I can't write on it with DirectCD 3.01 but when I format the cd with DirectCD 3.01 I can write on it using DirectCD 5.3?

A:DirectCD question

It's not uncommon for the manufacturer to make a newer version "backward" compatible with an older version, but that older version may not necessarily be compatible with a newer version. For example, they can design ver 5.3 to recognize formatting from 3.01, but the changes they made to 5.3 doesn't allow ver 3.01 to recognize 5.3 formatting.

It appears Roxio screwed up and have the full DirectCD 5 as a free download rather than an update as it is suppose to be. It is the full DirectCD 5 and requires no code to install: hxxp://cequadrat.com/driver/dcd_upd/DCD51UP.exe It likely won’t parse as a link but just copy/paste it to the address bar if it doesn’t.

Sony did the same thing last year with their CD Extreme software and left it up for a couple of months. Don’t know how long this one will last, so if you need new packet writing software grab it. I just downloaded it and it works fine.

Hi, anyone got any ideas?

I have just formatted a box of Verbatim 700MB CDRW's, for use with DirectCD. Everyone of them is showing "571MB Free, 186KB used".

I have only ever once formatted a couple of CD's for using as DirectCD's and they only gave me about 200MB. I assumed that it was the Media and so bought the Verbatim ones as recommended by the Iomega webpage (My CD writers manufacturer).

Is this normal?
Should I have expected 700MB?
Any tips on 'getting more MB'?

Thanks, Peter

I use DirectCD to store my digital photographs to CD-RW's and to back up my PC to CD-R's. I am using DirectCD version on Win XP Home, with a Matshita UJDA330 cd drive.

On Sept 12th I loaded a dozen or so digital photos to a cd-rw. This CD was only around 25% full at the time and none of the imgaes I added were more than 250kb in size. So there is plenty of room on the disk. The next time I put this cd in the drive I get these messages: 1) The requested files could not be read from the CD in drive (D). It is recommended to copy any critical files on this CD to a new CD.
2) Windows cannot read the disk. The disk might be corrupt or it could be using a format that is not compatible to Windows.

I have had this happen before and was able to recover the data but I do not recall how. So the first question is: Is there some way for me to recover this data? Right now neither DirectCD nor Windows will let me access these files.

I can read and write to my other CD-RW's, just not this one.

Second question is a two parter: How do I stop this from happening in the future or what am I doing that is causing this?

Any and all suggestions will be most welcome. This is a very irritating problem and is causing me to lose faith in using CD's as a storage medium. If I do not find an acceptable resolution to this problem I will have to find another storage medium.

Hi, I'm running win 98se. I have always been able to format cd-rws with direct cd. I need them to use with my backup program. This time, it starts going through the process and after 30 minutes of formatting, It stops and I get a message...Illegal start block address (0x400004b) You will not be able to read and write to the disk through drive-letter access. I have the latest aspi update. I uninstalled, then reinstalled the program and no go. I downloaded another trial formatting software(NCI filepc). I still get the same problem. I was able to format about 2 out of 6 times with the latter program. I am able to burn to the drive. I would so appreciate any help you can give. Thanks

A:Problem formatting with directcd 3.05

Packet Writing, as for writing DirectCD CD-RW's, is not very reliable and I wouldn't recommend it for backup at all, especially with an older version/drive.

Are you using old CD-RW's or a new brand? CD-RW's wear out, and not all brands are compatible with all drives.

But most likely the drive is on its way out if its an older drive.

I am using Roxio DLA. I have formatted and copied files to disc successfully. When I go to make the disc compatible I get the following message 'Selected drive is being used by Roxio DirectCD Kernel. Wait until Roxion directCD Kernal is finished and try again'
I have tried restarting my computer and have done a system restore but still can't get rid of this message or problem. Thanks

DirectCD is 1 of several programs in EasyCDPt5.0. Roxio's other CD making programs and Plextor's still work. But now I get a "Cannot create or replace the folder [name of folder]: Access is denied." If I try DirectCD on anything besides a folder, I get the additional message "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." There are no refs to the error message on Roxio's system. I can live without DirectCD, and I'm sure I could uninstall and reinstall or perhaps go to an old system restore and probably get it to work, but I wonder if there is not something simple I have overlooked. I run WinMe OEM, and I'm not sure when the program stopped working since I don't use it often, so I can't correlate it with a particular change.

Could someone please tell me what I must do in order to once again be able to read my mp3-file CD-R's which were created using Adaptec/Roxio DirectCD packet-writing?

I no longer use packet-writing to create mp3 disks. Instead, I now use Nero 5.5 mastering software. But I do have numerous packet-writing produced CD-R's which I am now unable to read. I still have Adaptec/Roxio Easy CD Creator and DirectCD on my system, but whenever I insert one of these CD-R's into either Drive D (Yamaha burner) or Drive E (DVD-ROM) I get messages telling me that these drives are not accessible, that the devices are not ready. Perhaps all I need to do is simply change a setting, but so far I have been unable to determine what must be done. I would greatly appreciate any help with this matter. Thank you.

A few days ago I attempted to install an some older files off of a CD onto this computer. I got the above Driver DirectCD message along with the message on each bootup that it might interfere with my computer. Because my Roxio burner (OEM) is out of date, Roxio has no update. I'd just like to dump the above. And I can't delete Roxio because I 'don't have permission'. Nero and other alternatives work just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have Roxio DirectCD installed using Windows ME. Working fine as long as I use CD-R disks. I have no problem re-configuing CD-R disks to accept new data and then converting them to be able to be read by any CD-ROM drive. However where my problem lies is I sent some files to a CD-RW disk and now I want To reopen this disk and send some more files to it but Adaptec won't let me. It regularly lets me open and closed CD-R disks but will not let me do this with a CD-RW disk. What am I doing wrong or what must I do or where can I go to find out where to go to find out what I must do. Greg & Grimm

A:Solved: Roxio DirectCD

Once you convert a RW so it can be read in any computer it is closed. DirectCD is the only common packet writing software that lets you write to CDR. It is really a different system as you can drag/paste to the drive but you close each session just like closing sessions using multi-session in mastering software. You can still write another packet written session to it.

With a RW you normally leave it open. When you insert the CD, DirectCD opens and you are able to access it like a big floppy. Once you close it out to be read on any computer it will no longer work as a big floppy. The only way to use it again is to format it with DirectCD or erase it with EZCD and start over. I don’t use packet writing so this is from very old experience, but I think it still works that way.

Your data is actually much safer with CDR.

I installed Adaptec Easy CD Creator on my computer but I kept getting a message at startup (XP) saying that there are drivers that have been disabled and may make windows unstable. Running 98SE, HP CD-writer 9100 series. Installed EZCD 4 Deluxe in order to burn data. Upgraded EZCD to V4.05 and DirectCD to V3.05. Also downloaded the firmware for the writer. This is the message I received when I installed the firmware:

“This installation program could not determine if the software included with your cd writer plus drive was properly installed. The HP Firmware update utility requires the installation of the software found on disc one. Refer to your cd writer plus user’s guide for installation instructions regarding the software that was included with your drive.”

When attempting to use DirectCD, I get to the drive information screen. The media status box states “unsupported or bad media.” When I attempt to scan the disc, the message is that the disc is badly damaged or my drive has stopped functioning and to reboot. Rebooting does not fix this and I've tried every blank cd in the stack and even tried a CDRW. Drive appears to work fine as I can still use Musicmatch to burn mp3s. In reading the DirectCD help files, I found information stating when I insert a blank cd, the program should open and I will be given instructions to format the cd. I have the drive set to auto run but DirectCD does not open on it’s own when a cd is inserted. I continue to get the bad media message and not able to scan.

Packet writers(direct CD for one) can and 'do' cause many problems. I would suggest you uninstall direct CD. You can then use ECDC's file writing and use CD-R's. I've seen CD-R 100 spindles for around us$20.00 lately. imho, until they get Mt.Rainier capable operating systems(it will be with new Windoze version coming out now called 'Longhorn'), CD-RW disks will 'not' be a good option...

I used to have a HP Cdwriter which used DirectCD to write and rewrite cdrw media on my old computer which ran on Windows ME. You could use the cd like a floppy drive. The machine I have now uses Roxio Easy CD Creator 7 which really does not utilize the cdrw the same way. If you delete a file with Roxio it only hides it. The only way to really delete files is to erase the entire disk. This is not cool. HP’s software also allowed you to setup a cd rom for your computer only or for all computers. This was cool.

Is there a drive and software available out there now for Windows XP SP2 that supports UDF and/or the newer format? Thanks.

Running Windows XP: On every boot-up, system hangs and I get message: "Devices or applications disabled. DirectCD will cause Windows to become unstable. Clicking "here" allows bootup to proceed and leads me to Roxio website to get a new updated driver for DirectCD but endless searching there is fruitless. I'd like to remove the incompatible driver(s) but cannot identify or locate them to delete them. I need advice on how to remove the offending driver(s). It has been suggested I go to control panel, add-remove programs, and remove EasyCD or DirectCD. Neither appears there so this won't work.

A:Solved: DirectCD driver problem

For a quick fix you can remove it from the startup, but it wont fix it, it will simply bypass it.

You need to remove Roxio's software. This is usually bundled with DVD burning or CD-Burning ROMS and it is not required because windows xp has a nice burning software installed (ironically built by the same company ROXIO)

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall EASYCD or DirectCD.
