Solved: Solid OS/HW/etc. for small biz?

Q: Solved: Solid OS/HW/etc. for small biz?

We're starting a new Distributor biz that sells to retailers. We're in the process of setting up our home office and would like to start with a good solid platform. I'm not a computer geek and need to avoid constant fixes/virus and spyware scans/etc. I certainly would consider switching OS or going with MAC or whatever, to avoid what seems to be a constant steam of nagging issues. Currently I have XP, Outlook, IE with a likelihood that we'll be using QuickBooks and Customer Manager to manage our biz. My kids are constantly using the computer with AOL IM, Internet games, etc.

Would love your thoughts on best OS/hardware to give us a good solid platform, and suggestions on how to systematically maintain it to avoid problems before they happen. Should we set up a separate CPU just for the biz (no kids allowed)?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: Solid OS/HW/etc. for small biz?

First thing is have a separate computer for the kids and there games, the computer for the business should be for business only. The next thing is you want to do is contact the Better Business and find out about Computer Advisors so you can have the correct computer setup with the security and protection that you need. There is nothing worse than finding out all of everything has been hacked on you and that is bad.

I purchased a new HP750-247c with a 128 GB solid state drive about 4 months ago and the C-drive is almost full.  Most of the space is taken by Windows 10 and after a recent update the drive is almost maxed-out.  I am already saving all my downloads and documents and most of my programs to the D-drive.  Is there something else I can do to free up some space?

A:Solid state drive capacity too small

@Wendy18?, welcome to the forum. Here is a guide to help you free up space on your SSD.  I suggest reading it to see if it helps.  Truthfully, if you don't have a lot of apps/programs on your SSD there is not much else that you can do.  A 128 GB SSD is not very large with the size of many apps/programs today; especially the Windows 10 OS. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I run Pop Up Stopper and I also have MSN pop up stopper. It stops all pop ups except the one called "Solid Peer". It is a different advertisement every time but in the "blue bar" at the top of the pop up it says "Solid Peer".

It is not really specific to any certain web page. I am closing between 15-20 every hour.

Anyone know how to stop it?

I'm upgrading my desktop to the core i7, but I can't find a mobo that isn't completely filled with 1-star reviews saying things such as, "this company has always been great, but stay away from this one product." I can't find a mobo anywhere that doesn't have a significant chance of DOA or short life or other problems. On top of that, the only mobo I could find that is even slightly considerable is $200. That's pretty damn high for a motherboard.

The specs I need are:
LGA 1155 CPU slot
2+ PCI express slots, one has to be at least @16 mode and the other has to be at least @8
Intel P67 north bridge
DDR3 1333 memory support
ATX, micro-ATX, or mini-ITX form factor

If I have to, I can change the LGA requirement to a 1156 and deal with slower core speeds, and that would also remove the P67 requirement.

I'm beginning to wonder if the desktop motherboard business is a joke. My first and currently only custom build runs on a very faulty (but still very useable) mobo, and it was the one that had the least amount of 1-star bad-experience reviews. I'm seeing 5-star mobos that don't fit my requirements everywhere, and the mobos of many laptops I've run all worked like I could never imagine. Yet it seems that motherboards for quad-cores, be they Q9550s or i7s, never work right.

I just purchased and installed a new SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148357. I already had a standard 1 tb Samsung HD loaded with Windows 7 OEM. When I attempt to load this operating system on the new SSD, I have a error message indicating, "Setup was unable to use the existing system partition because it does not contain the required free space". Windows 7 startup indicates that there is 59.5 gb of primary space on the SSD drive. This is my first SSD. Am I doing something wrong, or is the OS mad because I changed the hard drive with an OEM operating system? Appreciate any assistance you can give. Thanks.

How are you "attempting to load this operating system on the SSD" ?

To copy or clone a drive to a new drive, the replacement drive has to at least equal in size the old drive, you cannot copy a larger drive bit for bit onto a smaller capacity one. (Same goes for partitions.......new one at least equal to, more space is better)

Hello,

I have been having some problems with my system the last couple of days.

At first I thought it was the hdd, so I went out and purchased a brand new hdd. (Seagate 320g)

So I get installing windows, everything is fine, I start downloading updates and installing drivers...

Boom, HDD light goes solid, whole pc locks up .. So I reset.

Try to boot back into windows, same thing soon as windows loads.

Reset, go try to do a restore point .. works for a little bit, then same thing.

Go into safe mode, nothing shows in event viewer, I back track and get rid of everything I did, and reboot, works for a little bit, then same problem.

So I get a little frustrated, and rip apart the entire machine. Take out the a drive and the cd burner (never use either), swapped in a new cord on the hdd, and cleaned everything out so it shines, rebuilt the pc and it seems like its working for the moment, so far been 24mins and no problems yet.

However, if the problem returns, does anyone have any idea what the heck is causing it?

Cheers.

HOw long was the light on solid? Personally I would download MSE from Microsoft, uninstall AVG and install MSE. Perhaps the light was on because AVG was scanning every file on the drive. In any case I find AVG to take a lot of resources. With MSE you can set the amount of resources it uses when doing a scan.

First question: I have an HD xw8000 workstation in which I would like to see if I could install a solid state HD. Is it compatable?

Second: If so, I'd like to use it as the primary HD for my OS and programs. However, I wish to avoid re-installing my OS and programs if possible. Is there software or a way where I can clone my present main HD onto the new HD and just switch it over? Or am I stuck with reinstalling everything.

And, if cloning this way is possible, can I store a copy on my external HD in case I need to transfer it over to a new HD in future again. (I heard even solid state hard drives can blow.)

I know absolutely nothing about this stuff.

Any info helps. Also, if there is FREE software for this can you name one that is decent and easy to use?

Thanks.

Hi,

I am need of some advice for a gaming build that I am about to make. I have actually already purchased all of the parts and they are already here, but before unpacking any of them, I decided to check with some other people whether they will work together well. The biggest thing that I'm worried about is whether my PSU will handle my system and all of the overclocking I will be doing. Also, I do not plan on upgrading for a while, so I just want to make sure this system, as it is now, will work.

As I mentioned in the title, this build is solely for the purpose of gaming, so I WILL be doing some overclocking. Basically, I just want to make sure that it will be able to handle everything well.

Here are the specs:

OS - Windows 7 x64
Motherboard - MSI P55 GD80
Video Card - MSI GTX 275 Twin Frozr OC 896MB - will overclocking this by about 5-10%
PSU - Corsair 750TX
CPU - Intel Core i5 750 2.66 Ghz - will overclock this to about 3.6 Ghz
RAM - G.Skill DDR3 1600 Ripjaws Series 4GB (2x2)
Hard Drive - WD Caviar Black 640GB
Case - Antec 900

Any suggestions on what I could do to improve, or whether the system is good enough would be greatly appreciated. I still have some money left over, and returning something would not be a problem, so please, feel free to throw in any suggestions you might have.

Thank you,

Sebastian

Hello all,

I am kind of frustrated because I feel like I bought this game for nothing. I didn't think it would be so difficult to run. I am trying to run the game on a windows 7 home premium laptop with Intel(R) hd graphics. Just to get the game to run I had to use a program called Creative Alchemy so it could emulate EAX and 3D audio because supposably MGS2 is a DirectSound3D game (whatever that means). So thankfully the game actually ran. However when you go to play, it appears that all of the characters and 3D models in the game are practically see through, and you can't see any of the textures which is really annoying. I have done some research online and so far people are saying that the game is a bad PC port and that it isn't meant to run on Intel Graphics chips. However there are people that have made it work for Intel HD graphics 3000, and it looks very good.

Anyways, please help me, I have been dying to play this game and now that I finally have it I can't!

Hello. I originally listed this under Software (XP) section of this forum, but someone thought I should have it moved to the hardware. I marked the other one as solved, so I could change the title of the thread to better match the hardware section. Here is the post again.

I have completed a brand new build with all new parts and it goes to BIOS, sees all the components and everything is as it should but when I try installing Windows XP Professional, I keep getting the blue screen saying "A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." Technical Information: *** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I made a bootable disc so that I could run CHKDSK and SCANDISK and that one said that it found errors and tried moving files from the one area over to another and block off the corrupted area and it couldn't even do that because it had said there was physical damage to the drive.

So, I opened the other OCZ SSD drive I have (the exact same one - model, etc..) and tried it with the same error happening. I even opened a new xp professional installation cd because that first one had scratches on the cd, and both installation cd's are giving this error to both of these OCZ SSD drives.

This is the first time I am using a solid state drive, so I do not know if I have to make sure I unlock something or what, but the BIOS found the drive stating it's size and all.

Hello there,

I have two XP Pro laptops connected to my wireless router at home. One of them is a 5 year old Fujitsu Amilo 1505 Intel Core2 Duo with Intel 3495 wireless adapter. The other a new Fujitsu Lifebook AH531 Intel i5 with Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030 adapter. The connection of the old laptop seems very stable even when it is far from the router. The connection of the new laptop is very unstable.

I installed "connection monitor" on both and set it up to monitor the connection to the router (192.168.1.1). On the newer laptop the replay time varies from 0 to 10000 ms and connection seems to freeze and restart. Connection to the DNS is very slow and is often interrupted. On the old laptop I can see the replay time steady around 47ms however the number of brief disconnects is high without affecting the internet browsing experience though.

The router is set to a clean channel. The computer settings are almost identical and both adapters are updated to the latest drivers. The performance though is much different. Any ideas what could cause the new laptop (which was bought to replace the old) to have such a bad wireless connection?

Thank you in advance

I have an attachment of what I am talking about. I am wanting the blocks where the names of the files or shortcuts are to be transparent instead of blue.

I have tried this already and it did not work:

Make desktop icons background transparent
1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Then double click on System Icon, system properties window will open.
2. Click on Advanced tab in System properties window.

3. Click Settings button next to performance option.
4. Under Visual effects tab, check (or tick) option ?Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop?. Background color of desktop icons will be set to transparent instead of ugly looking solid blue color.

I am sure it is something simple that I am overlooking :)

Hello all,

I need your help to choose a proper router. There are 3 to 4 clients and a server. All of the clients and the server are in secure boxes and the whole network is isolated from the Internet, so there is no way to make a copy of files by sending them through the Internet or using usb flashes or optical writing devices. Also there is no access to unplug the network cables from the clients, so nobody will be able to connect them to their laptops easily unless he/she cuts the cables.

The router must be capable of doing these (manageably)
Vital:
1. Filtering ports (almost only needed 21, 80, 443).
2. Port security, allowing only registered mac addresses.
Not vital but if possible very helpful:
3. Clients see only the server, not each other.
4. In case one of the clients needs Internet access, permitting only that client use it when giving Internet access thorough the server.

I'd really appreciate your help if you give a list of D-Link, Cisco and Linksys routers which will do the job.

Function VBA_P_x(age As Double, sexe As String) As Double
Dim k As Double
If sexe = "F" Then
k = Sheets("F").Cells(age + 2, 4).Value
Else
k = Sheets("M").Cells(age + 2, 4).Value
End If

VBA_P_x = k
End Function

This doesn't work but

Function VBA_P_x(age As Double, sexe As String) As Double
Dim k As Double
If sexe = "1" Then
'1 as female, 0 as male
k = Sheets("F").Cells(age + 2, 4).Value
Else
k = Sheets("M").Cells(age + 2, 4).Value
End If

VBA_P_x = k
I'd rather have it allow me to use F or M instead of 0 or 1 tyvm

ramz
End Function

A:Solved: Vba small issue

A:Solved: all the font is so small

If you have a wheel mouse, hold the Ctrl key and roll the wheel backward and forward the increase and decrease the font size.
Also, in IE you can click on View then Text Size.

See the attachment to see what I mean. I have tried to 150% with little advantage, plus the icons then can't be organized as I desire on the desktop. This smallness of print occurs throughout the displays, beginning with the splash page and the request for the password. You can barely read it!

Hello everyone,

This is my first time here so bear with me thanks. I have some scanned .tif images of some notes from a classmates, and when i print it doesnt print in full scale. I am using Microsoft Office Document Imaging to open and print the file. I'll try to describe what I get as best as I can; when I print, the entire document would print on the top left quarter of the page. If you were to segment the page in quarters the entire document would fit in the top left of the page. I hope I made some sense. I would appreciate any help, thank you.

A:Solved: Printing small

TIFF files have a document size imbedded in the file. You create that document size when you scan. You could convert the document size in almost any viewer or editor, but the resolution would likely be too low. The resolution is based on the output size.

This is the settings tab for a Microtek scanner. They are all similar except that Lineart with Microtek is the same as 1 bit B&W on some others.

What you are interested in is the output size. I usually scan close to the margins so that the printer will duplicate it properly. That gives me a size a little smaller than 8.5 X 11 if the transition is set to 100% scaling. The output size is what determines the print size.

It is also recommended to scan B&W documents at 600 PPI to avoid aliasing in the letters.

Hello guys,

As I use a wireless keyboard and mouse set on my PC. When I power it on it says "no keyboard found please F1 to continue, which I press and everything is normal until the next time. Is there any way to this off, because it is a bit of nuistance to the at least. Please reply soon.

A:Solved: A small problem

In most (not all) bioses you have an option about what sort of errors should cause the system to halt. eg "Halt on all errors" will cause the pc to stop if the keyboard is missing.
Usually you can set something like "all errors except keyboard/monitor", or some other setting that tells the bios to ignore a missing keyboard.

I Hope This Helps

Kind Regards
