I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After "fixing" the fan noise on my Yoga 910 by changing the BIOS settings, I thought it was just a fluke. Then I bought a Yoga 720 yesterday, set it up with the fan sounding like it was going to fly out of the computer and just hoped it would go away...it didn't. Unfourtunately even after a BIOS update, there is no Quiet Mode like in the 910. Please someone tell me there is a way to fix this. Otherwise it's getting returned and my next laptop definitely won't be a Lenovo.

Just bought the Lenovo Yoga 710-14isk 80ty --- THIS FAN NEVER SHUTS OFF! I saved all this money for a fan that not only doesn't shut off, but I cannot Skype clients or conduct a webinar because the fan noise interferes with the microphone. I've tried EVERYTHING. Scouting these forums ... updated drivers ... nothing. Still the same. I'm ready to send it back. I'd appreciate someone from Lenovo replying to this with a *solution*!!!! Please don't repeat the malware mantra. Everyone knows it is not malware. Lenovo has a horrible design and engineering issue, and it must be resolved. Please reply or I'm about to take this to the executive team with some serious letters, as well as moving to the consumer protection path.

I thought a SSD was suppose to be quiet...well my yoga 900 fan seems to be running quite a lot and there is a high pitch squeal to it (quietish high pitch squeal but still annoying).  How do I know if this is a return issue or something typical? Has anyone else had this problem? Returning a computer is a huge pain so I dont' want to do this just in case.  Only want to return it if something is indeed wrong with it.

A:Yoga 900 - fan noise

I hear the fan kicking on when I'm playing games or rendering videos, otherwise, its basically silent. Also when charging, I hear it kick on. Check your background processes, might have something running. Also, make sure you're not on high performance mode.

Hi, I have a had a problem with fan noise since I bought my Yoga 510 late last year. When the laptop is under even a moderate CPU load the fan starts up with a loud, high-pitched whirring noise which lasts for a couple of seconds and then dies down again. It does this roughly every 30 seconds. Once the fan has started, the fan itself seems to work okay and sound fine (e.g. it makes an unobtrusive ambient sound that sounds like a fan should). Any ideas how to solve this? Is it a fault? Thanks,Simon

We have heard your feedback about X1 Yoga 3rd-gen fan noise and have prepared a trial Embedded Controller Firmware (ECFW) to address it.  This new ECFW will make the fan run slower and less often.  To install it, you need to be on ECFW 1.05 or lower.  If you are not on ECFW 1.05 or lower, then you need to downgrade to 1.05 or lower BEFORE trying to install this trial ECFW.

Note: This is a trial firmware.  Don't install it if you are not comfortable with the fact that this is a trial firmware.

First, download and unzip this file:  https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApXWjQB7_a1bhblAj2RTFraWpkfdWA
Then, follow these steps as a guide:

How to check your ECFW version:
1.  Reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS setup.
2.  On the main screen, look at "Embedded Controller Version".  This needs to be N25HT17W (1.05) or lower.  If so, you can skip steps 4-6.
3.  Press F10 to save and exit BIOS setup.  The PC will reboot to Windows.

If you are already on N25HT18W (1.06), how to downgrade to N25HT17W (1.05):
4.  From the downloaded/unzipped folder, go into "1.05 formal" folder and then double-click on WinUpTp.exe
5.  You will see a prompt like "BIOS image file is older than BIOS ROM".  Click on "Yes" to continue anyway.
6.  Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the firmware update and reboot the PC.

How to upgrade from N25HT17W (1.05) to N25HT18A (1.06) trial version:
7.  Fro... Read more

A:Yoga 720 13" FAN NOISE - UGH!!!

Is this the 13 inch or 15inch?  I have the the same problem with the 13 inch and there has been no bios update so far.  My my brother has the 15inch and also had the same problem but after he updated his bios, there was an option to switch the CPU from "performance mode" to "balanced mode" in the bios. It was defaulted at performance mode and after switching it to balanced, the fan noise went away without any noticeable slowdown of the computer.  Im hoping the 13inch gets a similar bios update because other than the fan noise, I love this laptop and would hate to have to return it

I know this has been reviewed previously. However, I am just trying to keep things simple by not installing the third party fan speed program mentioned in previous threads. I am not sure how to set it so I do not like messing around with it. Lenovo replaced a Yoga 720 (i5/256 GB SSD) that had a crapped out motherboard a few weeks ago with a Yoga 720 (i7/512 GB SSD). I was grateful for the upgrade.  That said, I have a whirring fan noise on this unit that I did not experience on the last one.  I put it on quiet mode in the BIOS settings and tuned down the Windows maximum processor state to 90% from 100%. From time to time, when I have a more processes than usual running, I will hear that noise kick in.  Should I be concerned about anything here or just deal with it. I hate to send this one back since they upgraded me. Quiet mode definitely helped. I am not sure about the other tweak.  Are there any drivers I should look at downloading to help this; or like I said, just deal with it? Any advice will be appreciated.  Thanks!

I purchased this Lenovo Yoga 710 couple of months ago. The cooling fan is making heavy noise even while running simple applications. Most of the time I use only chrome and skype. I do not have any heavy CPU consuming applications installed on my laptop. Due to this heavy noise from the fan, it makes impossible to have a clear skype conversations. The microphone is placed very close to the fan, the receiving side they hear heavy nice rather than my voice clearly. Any suggestion to improve this would be a great help, Thank you.

Hi, I am having a big issue since I bought X1 Yoga around a month back. The temperature shoots upwards of 80C as soon as I put a little load on my system (including sometimes just Flash based websites). This makes fan run abnormally at a high RPM making too much sound. It is almost unbearable and makes difficult to work silently. It is the i7-6600, 16GB model and given the price, I was expecting a better system response. With this configuration, I am expected to use for heavy wok at times, but this sound deters me. Can Lenovo provide a solution to this problem? Or do I need to get this serviced in just 1 month? Please help and provide solution. Thanks

A:Yoga 720 13 fan noise like chainsaw

Hi montello,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

There are claims of workaround updating the BIOS and likewise installing fan control.
The way how you describe not having the issue with the laptop suspended without the rattling noise would indicate probable loose parts that causes the noise so I would suggest that you call in technical support instead.

I am getting the same fan noise on my Yoga 900 that a lot of people on this forum have talking about. CPU will randomly spike to 100% causing the fans to run at full speed even though all I'm doing is light web browsing. Is it worth exchanging for another unit at Best Buy knowing that I could still have the same issue? Or if anyone knows a fix besides setting the maximum processor state to 99%? Thanks.

Hello guys, this is my machine. I've got a Yoga 370 with i5, 256gb ssd and 8gb ram. I bought the machine in february. It suits my needs quite well and I could be pretty happy with it, BUT....Since 2 or 3 weeks, I notice a noise when I turn on the machine. The noise comes from the area under the keyboard, where the 1,2 and W keys are. The noise is not constant. Its more like a stuttering tone with high frequency. Also it doesn't come up every time I turn on the machine (but almost every trime). And it goes away after several minutes of use. I can hear it clearly at a normal distance of use. Last week I contacted the Lenovo support and told them about it. They immediately wanted me to send in the machine for repair. So that's what I did. Yesterday the machine came back, after repair and quality inspectipon. They replaced the motherboard. Noise is still there. Now I'm pretty insecure about what to do? Any advice apreciated.Cheers

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13Model NAme: 2191 So I noticed theres a whine, like a fan whine but it comes from the motherboard area. I unplugged the battery from the board and this problem goes away. I'm not sure if it would be a battery fault or not, but they cost an obusrd amount of money. Laptop operates fine, the whine just seems out of place and probably shouldn't be happening. It almost sounds like a HDD scratching noise despite there being no HDD in this device. I even unplugged the fans to be sure. So it's definitely not the cause. Also unplugged speakers and that doesn't seem to be it. I uploaded a picture on the areas I hear this whine, and it seems to stop doing it when I press the touchscreen. It comes back if I just simply hold my finger still, but when I hold it on the screen and move my finger it goes away. Top right where the orange circle is seems most conentrated. But not by much. I'm assuming it's the touchscreen, but is it natural?  Using Linux also. I'll put Windows on and see if that makes any difference, though I suspect not. Thanks.

So now it also happened to me.  The grinding noise is definetly a mechanical one, the fan touches another part. You can change the sound by pushing onto the backside of the Yoga. Can anyone confirm that there are the same solutions like for other Yogas:- open the case and try to get the fan free- reduce the fan speed so the noise get softer- any other solution (apart from taking the axe...) Thanks for anyone's help, Dani

I've been using my X1 Yoga 2017 for a few weeks now and I've noticed that when I'm doing simple things like checking email, browsing the web etc. the fan kicks in sporadically. The is most noticeable when I first power on the computer, or wake it up from sleep The problem is that the fan is pretty loud, for example, if I'm sitting in a meeting and the fan kicks in then its pretty audible to most people in the (small) room Is there a way to control the fan RPM or at least reduce the fan noise in some way so that its not so noticeable? I would prefer not to have to open up the computer to do any work (e.g. reapplying TIM) Currently my CPU temp is 48C, but it goes up to 84C usually straight after windows starts and thats when the fan really kicks into high gear

Hi! I purchased Yoga 900 (part number 90UE002VUS) - 16GB Memory with 512 GB SSD. I hear the fan running loud and continuously even after closing all the applications. Is this normal? I thought SSD's are supposed to be ultra quiet, but this unit has an i7 processor, so maybe it's the processor that's forcing the fan to stay on. However the only application that I've set to run in the background is Sophos Anti-Virus. But even with that app turned off, I hear the fan come on very frequently and stay on with a loud noise for extended periods of time.I wonder whether I have a defective unit and need to get it replaced. Last week I received a brand new Lenovo Yoga 710. The internal fan produces a constant noise i.e. it is constantly running. Of course the fan/noise increases with CPU load but it never stops when the CPU idles (e.g. regular Office work). I checked with Windows Task Manager, that there is no background load that could produce CPU, Memory or Disk activity. Ambient temperatures are normal (22 degrees C), machine is on the desk and cool. Is there a BIOS upgrade or setting available that fixes this? Fred. P.S. Hello, I'm not satisfied with fan behavior on my YOGA 500-15ISK. (i7-6500U / 8GB DDR3 / SSD 256GB / nVidia 940M) In the evening in quiet room it is very noisy. Fan speed very often jumps from 0% speed to higher even with no significantly cpu load or my pc activity and after some time (sometimes the fan does go off after few seconds, sometimes after minutes...) it jumps back to 0% and again and again.. randomly. It happens all the time, also I formated system and tried clean win10 instalation with all up to date drivers. But still same behavior. I can't see any reason why when I browse web through Chrome, watch videos, work with folders and files -> all in 2D, I have to listen this alternating louder and softer fan speed noise. Core temp software shows CPU temperature around 40C.  My old HP laptop without ssd is much quiter in 2D than this YOGA 500-15ISK. I much rather prefer constant slight noise than this constant turning on and off fan noise. It looks it is standard behavior on the Yoga laptops because of fan speed level setings, and most of Yoga users don't care, maybe can't hear that or just don't bother about that speed jumps. Or it could be some hw or sw problem? Maybe some wrong driver? How can I change speed level settings?I found program NoteBook FanControl where is config profiles for Yoga 11s and Yoga 13 and some more but nothing work to my fan speed. Proba... Hi everyone, I'm currently on a X220 and considering to buy a X1 Yoga. I'd appreciate advise on the following questions: - How is the fan noise of the device when using updated Win10, software, drivers and BIOS? I read several complaints about the noise levels in older threads. Are these issues resolved and can the X1 Yoga now be described as silent (when only surfing the web etc.)? Will I get a "more silent" system when I chose the i5-6200U over the i7-6500U? - I read about several issues users had with the OLED display. Also, I'm unsure about its lifetime, (annoying?) battery/display saving modes, battery life, reflectivity/glare and scaling in Win10 due to high pixel density. Is the OLED display truly a better choice than the FullHD IPS one? (I love great-looking displays though, so I'm tempted...) I want to use this laptop for 5 years or more, so I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Hi there, I recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 3 14 with Core i7-5500U and I feel like there might be a problem with the chip because the fan is nearly constantly on and it is REALLY loud, and so far ive only done basic tasks like web browsing and document editing.

Also another unrelated problem I have is that 2-finger-tap right click isnt working on the touchpad despite the option in the settings being ticked.

Please help, I've been really dissappointed in this laptop because of these things and I'm sure it's awesome when it works properly
