Missing unicode symbol in windows 7

Q: Missing unicode symbol in windows 7

My problem is that a colleague needs the unicode sign aa(a733) and AA (A732). She is using windows 7 pro and it doesn't exist in windows 7 apperently.
I have both symbols in windows 10 pro.
How do I install, import or some other way give it to her?
I have tried to find it in Segoi UI, but it isn't there either in windows 7.
I hope someone can help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been searching like mad to try and find the answer to this, but I just can't find anything! No one seems to have this problem or know how to help!

I reformatted my computer after trojans rendered it unusable, but I didn't have any sort of backup because it was unexpected.

I reformatted, installed drivers using Dell's website, and the computer works fine except for the fact that I am now missing unicode characters, such as number 2764, a black heart which I was previously able to see!

It is very annoying seeing little boxes instead of symbols that the people who posted them can obviously see, and I have no clue where to get them back! There is no "unicode downloads" website, or any sort of driver I could see that would get these back.

What do I do? How did this happen? I'm so frustrated!

Hello and Welcome to TSF,

You need to use a HD utility first to fully erase HD before running windows disc
especially you say there was trojans on it prior.

Go here for a utility to fully erase HD:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/f234...es-302602.html

Go here for imgburn to burn it to a cd as an image file:
http://www.imgburn.com/

Note: After it starts erasing, remove the cd from cd rom to prevent it from becoming corrupted possibly.

If you cannot find a HD utility for the HD you have then go here:

killdisk - http://www.killdisk.com/
DBAN - http://www.dban.org/download

1. After completing the full erase of HD
2. Install windows operating system
3. Install drivers - Go here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx (enter service tag)

Note: Install chipset driver first. After each driver installation restart computer.

4. Install protection antivirus and antispyware
5. Update windows through windows update icon under the start button
6. Your done

The On-screen keyboard in Windows 8 seems to be missing the ^ symbol, otherwise known as the caret. On most keyboards its found with shift+6. But in Windows 8, that is the one symbol on the number key row that is left out. Its a necessary key especially when you need to represent an exponent in Microsoft excel. As it is, I see no way to create an exponent in Excel on a tablet, unless you have a physical keyboard attached. Can someone help me?

A:Missing ^ symbol on On-screen keyboard

Hello DS812,

The On-Screen Keyboard should have the ^ symbol here in the screenshot below. Could you post a screenshot of yours to see what the issue may be if it's not here?

If you like, the Touch Keyboard from the taskbar toolbars menu also has the ^ symbol. When you open the Touch Keyboard, click/tap on the &123 key and circled right arrow key above it to see it.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Please help, it's driving me nuts that when I reply to a email in MS Outlook 2007, the little symbol that shows it has been replied to is missing. It's my fault, a while back, I right clicked on something and I know that I checked or unchecked it somehow and can't figure out how to get back in there to bring it back now.

Here is an image of what it SHOULD look like, but this entire column is missing in my Outlook 2007.

Appreciate any help!

You might know, I've spent a LOT of time trying to figure this out, and right after I post this thread, I figured it out. The field is called ICON, I just had to add it back in by right clicking, then "arrange by" and then "custom" and then click on "fields" and then add "ICON" to the right column from the left column and there it is! Done! I've done search after search and asked every computer guru I knew and nobody knew how to do it. I can't believe I just figured it out! lol. Happy.

Got a steal on a computer FX55, 4 gig ram, 2 geforce 6600 GT 128 video cards, 1 tb of HD space but I'm stuck trying to get this thing to start. I've gotten the 800b0100 error but now I'm not getting that far after doing a full clean format of the primary HD. What I have connected is a dvd drive, the main ide drive (has a sata raid setup but have that disconnected), 2 G of ram and the video cards.

I've set the bios to boot the CD first but I'm getting an error after it verifies the DMI pooling and says booting from CD:
The next thing that happens is I get a message that says

press any key to boot from CD - then right below it I get
{some sign it looks like an 8 with the bottom of the 8 cut off} is missing
Press Ctr - alt - del to restart.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't have much experience with the computer so the history is a little unknown.

Hi, is the second method described here : Three ways to enter Unicode characters in Windows | The Endeavour (this is what is described in wikipedia too) still supposed to work for Windows 8 ? I created the new EnableHexNumpad registry key, and gave it the value 1, then rebooted. But I tried with several programs and it does not seem to work. Do you have to give a specific name to the value ? Since no name was specified in the method above, I left the "(default)" one. The type is REG_SZ. I miss the simple way that the linux systems have to enter a unicode character, press ctrl+shift+u and then type the hexadecimal value.

A:Unicode input on Windows 8.1

The article mentioned did not provide the correct registry key.

The correct key is :
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Input Method".

Create a value of type REG_SZ with the name "EnableHexNumpad". Set the value to 1.

You need to log off or reboot for this to take effect.

Hi, I've got this weird problem...Under control panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages, I have "Install files for East Asian languages" checked. and YET, windows doesn't seem to be recognizing east asian characters! I have a few korean songs that I downloaded off the internet, and the file names are in korean, but instead of showing the actual characters, square blocks are shown. I know they're korean because interestingly enough, when I copy and paste the blocks into word '07, the actual characters are shown. Anyone know why windows isn't recognizing the characters? How to solve it?

Thanks.

A:Windows XP Unicode support?

When you choose install files for east asian languages, make sure that windows xp's cd is in the cd drive, and all the files are copied when you press OK or Apply. Besides, when it finishes copying files, it will prompt a restart for the computer, press no to restart later just to make a small modification before restart: in the Regional and Language Options, go to the Advanced tab, and where there is Select a language to match the language version ........ use: Choose Korean, and down in the code page conversion tables tick all the entries you see korean in.

Hi, I really hope someone can help me with this problem.
I have been researching for over a week now with no way of fixing it.
I have windows xp, am using firefox and I am in the UK.
My home page is google, and that works fine, but every time i try to access my gmail account or other google pages I get the question mark in diamonds. Now my computer skills are really not great, but what I have learnt is that it is a coding/language problem. I have tried all the different kind of settings I have seen and none of it helps.
I have tried to go to view - character coding and setting it to unicode (utf 8) and western (iso8859-1).
I have also tried many different options in tools, options.
Is there anyone that knows how to just sort this out please???

Thanx

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with non-Unicode programs displaying the letters correctly in their languages. I have a Windows XP SP2 with regional options set to English, UK and Russian and English (US-International)installed as input languages. Now there is an advanced tab in the Regional and Language Options of Windows which allows you to choose ONE language for non-Unicode language support. My problem is that I am using Russian and French on the computer and some of my programs (like dicionaries), apparently non-Unicode, won't display the Russian letters correctly if I choose French as a non-Unicode language just as some won't display accented French characters when Russian is set as a non-Unicode language. This is very frustrating as I can't use these programs at the same time and have to change the non-Unicode language and restart the computer everytime I need to switch from Russian to French and vice versa.
I was thinking therefore if it is at all possible to make Windows support both (or a few) non-Unicode languages at the same time. Any hint or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I installed Windows 8 (from Windows 7) and things were OK.

Then I went to the Nvidia site and tried installing the latest driver because things looked a little strange
(nothing terrible, just some ragged edges).

Now when I restart, I see the window-pane image and the little circle thing that Windows displays,
then the whole screen goes black.
My computer is therefore dead in the water.

I tried rebooting from my Win 7 DVD, which brought up windows 7 setup screen,
told me to restart, which went right back into the Windows 8 and the malfunction.

Any ideas to bring this back to life?
Should I get hold of a Win 8 installation disk and boot from it? (I did the 7-->8 upgrade just
by downloading). Thanks in advance.

Hello wolf, and welcome to Sevenforums!

Perhaps your hardware isn't working. I'd start with the memory. Remove all but 2 GB of RAM from the computer and see if it boots. If it doesn't, replace the RAM with the RAM you have removed. If it boots, check each RAM using MEMtest: RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - created by Jonathan_King

Remove the bad RAM.

Let me know how this goes.

If you can't download anything at the moment, use the built in windows Memory diagnostics: Memory Diagnostics Tool - created by Brink

I'm running WindowsXP Professional on a Dell Latitude D600, and I recently swapped out my laptop base unit, due to a failure with the prior unit. I successfully swapped over all the peripherals from my old laptop unit (screen, drives, Wi-Fi, battery, etc.) and the laptop started up normally, with no problems.

While not a problem, I just now noticed that on Windows Explorer, under [file] Name column, I see that for everyone of the files listed, there a very small "green checkmark" or a "yellow exclamation mark" in the lower right-hand corner of the symbol that designates the file type (Word, Excel, PDF, etc.). I've never seen that under Windows Explorer before, working this laptop - or any computer for that matter.

Anybody have an explanation for the mysterious symbols that have shown up, all of a sudden? Thanks.

Please Guys/Gals(if any), explain this.

A:Unicode

OK, I'll take a stab at this (very roughly speaking) ...

In the beginning, there was ASCII (and EBCDIC, but that's another story ...). Anyhow, the ASCII character set runs from numeric values of 0 to 127 -- coincidentally, exactly the range of values that can be represented by one byte (8 bits) of data. Unicode extends this character set, in order to allow for non-ASCII characters, and specifically characters in languages other than English that do not have English equivalents. The 8-bit "character" was widened to 16 bits (2 bytes), to allow for a greater range of expression. Anything "Unicode" is based on this model (I'm simplifying, but that's the basic idea).

So, a Unicode "font" is one that contains 16-bit Unicode characters; a Unicode "file" (aka "text") is one that contains 16-bit Unicode characters; a Unicode SMS is a message that contains 16-bit Unicode characters. One consequence of the move to Unicode is that even "normal" ASCII characters are represented in two bytes rather than one; your 0x41 ('A') becomes 0x0041 (ignoring endian considerations).

Please note (again!) this is a very incomplete summary.

Hope this helps.

I play Flight Simulator X and except this problem, everything works just fine.
I recently bought a payware called VRS F-18 Superbug but apparently the aircraft's HUD has problem with my system locale.
What happens is, on the aircraft's HUD the square missile lock on indicator which looks like the picture below

becomes like this..

I don't mind having jackpot sign on my F-18's HUD but the problem is, when $$$ shows up instead of □ (square), missiles won't lock on.
The only solution I've found was changing between system locale in control panel.
My laptop's language setting is in Korean but then the OS itself is in English.
If I change system locale, Korean on some programs go haywire and changing that back and forth isn't an easy task since you have to restart your system.
I have asked in VRS's forum but their solution didn't work.. although I have seen a Taiwanese guy in similar situation getting it fixed by adding US keyboard setting from Reigion and Language.

So my question is, is there any way to fix this? Like adding unicode to my system if that is possible. Or at least changing system locale without having to restart.. It will be great if there is a way to fix this without having to change system locale.
P.S.- I have tried using AppLocale which didn't work.

So here's the deal, I am trying to install a Russian game in windows 7, but when I put it in the disc drive the letters are all weird. They are clearly not Russian. I have installed the Russian language pack but that didn't help at all. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

Put simply, is there any way to use wide-characters (Unicode) in PDCurses? No matter what I do it seems to refuse to display Unicode. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know how to do redirects in IIS like you can do on an Apache Server using an .htaccess file? I have been inundated with 404 errors on my test server at home and I would like to throw some pages back at them stating their IP address has been logged. The only option in IIS is to create a custon 404.htm but I want to be able to do this dynamically depending on what they request in their exploit. If they are trying to do cmd.exe I want to throw something different at them than someone that makes a generic error.

A:Unicode Exploit in IIS

Rockn,

I know what you want to do, send anyone who wants to try a cmd.exe exploit on your machine to nasty-gram page and have been thinking on how to do it. You can create an HTML file and name it "cmd.exe" and it will open in the browser displaying whatever you care to place in it (Gotcha IP address: xx.xx.xx.xx! you're in my log.). This works in the "wwwroot" directory or anyplace else, under virtual directory. Trouble is, my understanding of the unicode exploit is it is trying to invoke cmd.exe a few levels up and over using a series of "/../../'s" to run code on your IIS.

Other things I've been thinking of are similar to how you redirect using java script to a specific page based browser type or screen size, why not do the same thing based on the string "cmd.exe" being present in the incoming request. I don't know how to do that, but finding out how might be a place to start.

Sorry all I can give you are some ideas and not the answer. I like what you want to do though.

All Western-European and Latin Characters from the UTF-8 Unicode standard are rendered properly . But any characters that are part of the UTF-8 set but not part of the Western-European or Latin-I set of characters (e.g. Chinese, Japanese, Math Symbology, etc) are not rendering at all within the page that will display UTF-8 characters.

Also, it was observed that all pages within IE 6.0 by default use the UTF-8 encoding while those pages when rendered in IE 7.0 by default use Western-European encoding. When the encoding on the IE 7.0 browser window was changed to UTF-8, any UTF-8 character that was not part of the Latin-I or Western European character set still would not render. This may or may not relate to the language packages installed with IE 7.0, but it seems there is an issue with the window encoding used by default anyway, so even if the language packages for rendering UTF-8 characters was installed, they may not show up properly anyway due to the default encoding used by the application.
