I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My son and husband uploaded a Disney mp3 player to download songs from our pc which then changed the volume settings. Every sound the pc makes now echos. The speakers, the connections and sound card are fine. I have tested all of them. Any suggestions?

A:Distored Sound

Have you tried clicking on the Speaker icon in the system tray? An amplify or boost mode may have been turned on in here. Go through the Advanced Properties and ensure everything is set correctly.

Greetings, i digged out an old HP t3545.uk desktop computer, install fresh version of windows XP SP3 on it, and i cant figure out its sound problem. It also has ATI card in it.

The thing is that by default in bios on board audio is set to auto, and once you boot up into windows, there is no Realtek HD audio device in manage screen as if it does not exist at all.

So i changed the bios setting to onboard audio device enabled, and i appeared in the system. Ive installed latest audio driver from Realtek, i got sound but its heavely distorted. I tried to install audio driver provided by HP, but its extremely outdated and cant be installed to SP3.

Ive tried everything, reainstalling drivers, disabling ati HDMI audio, switching bios parameters to auto, enabled, disabled, nothing helps.

Does this mean that this PC actually has a dead built in audio, or is there something im missing?

The cd is in great condiction so should I cleen my laptop disk place and then if that, how?

A:Distored i'm an american cd

Mmm - could do with a bit more explanation here. Do you mean the sound is "distorted" and not "distored" (no such word)?
if you meant to type "distorted", try cleaning the CD with purpose-made CD cleaner.
You can also buy a special CD that will clean the CD drive. Most good audio centres or computer stores will have them.
They have little bristles attached to them which are designed to clean dirt from the laser lens, but don't get carried away - only use it a couple of times a year as over-use can do more harm than good.

If other CDs play okay and only that one is distorted, then despite what you say it must be a bad CD.

Hello, I have been searching high and low for a way to resolve this. I'm hoping someone here can help me. I'm having a problem in Windows 7 (64 bit) where a lot of my prompt/dialog boxes are blank and I can't see the text. This mainly happens on prompt windows, like if I am trying to update or install a program. I am on a Dell XPS 9100, with an Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz processor. It has 3GB of Ram and a 500GB hard drive. If that helps at all.

Can anyone help me fix this error? I've run all kinds of virus/spyware/malware scans, but they don't come up with anything. I've attached some screenshots

Thanks in advance!

A:Blank/Distored Dialog Boxes

Nothing in the screenshots unfortunately.

I recently purchased a Compaq Presario CQ71 and when I ran it for the first time, I noticed the Volume Icon was all distored and fuzzy.

Hope you can help,

Many thanks in advance.

If all the other icons are fine, then it's probably just a low-res/poor quality icon that Compaq have used.

I have Windows XP/Version 2002/Service Pack 3 on my Dell laptop. In early December 2015, I found an old, unopened, uninstalled, unregistered copy of CA Internet Security Suite 2009. I thought I would install it and see if it would automatically upgrade to the current protection level of 2015/2016 for possibly a year and then I would have to pay to continue getting upgrades. Once I installed it, it seemed to slow my laptop down quite a bit. It seemed like every web page I visited, I'd have to manually add it to the firewall to allow access to the site. I started to search for another product and saw that Vipre Internet Security Suite 2016 got good reviews and had a 30 day trial period. I uninstalled the CA product and installed Vipre. This didn't seem to help speed anything up (not that I really thought it would). The most annoying problem I have, and it seemed to start when I installed the CA suite, is that web page images seem to load OK for the first few pages I visit. Then after a few pages, images load half way and the bottom half of the image loads grainy and/or distorted ("piecemeal"). I'm using Chrome version 48.0.2564.103. It happens in FireFox (43.0.1) as well, but doesn't seem to happen as often. I frequently clear the cache and history in both browsers and this doesn?t help. Since the browsers are up-to-date, I'm assuming the problem is with XP. I suppose it could be the graphics card, but I thought I would see dead pixels on the screen, whi... Read more

I have been currently been having a problem with my computer sounds. This is hard for me to explain but I will try my best to explain it.

During the start of of the computer, after I enter in my password to my account, you would usually hear the Windows start up music. Well I hear it and it sounds very distored. Also I am an average user of Pandora radio and if during times of listening to a station the sounds get electronic sounding if I open another page on a different tab or open a program and it hurts my poor ears.

I have tried to uninstall my sound driver and also have tried updating it with no luck. Any and all help would be great. I am providing both my specs and the hijackthis info.

Just bought this HP notebook.  Seems very good, except for the audio.  When music is playing, it appears to automatically cut the volume when the level gets high, then it slowly increases.  This gives music an annoying loud-soft-loud-soft feel that sounds awful.  I don't want it normalized, just played straight. This occurs both for online music and for local music.   However, it only happens with the internal speakers.  With an external speaker plugged in, no distortion. I am trying to turn this off, if at all possible.  My searching shows that some drivers have "loudness equalization" for audio effects;  However, when I go to Playback Devices > Properties, the Enhancements tab does not have any options at all.  Any ideas?  The laptop will be used for frequent music playing, so this is a deal breaker if it can't be modified.

This only happens to video that has to buffer before playing. It doesnt happen to video that just stream directly.

The image is distorded in weird colors, sort of looks like an infared diagram, where the outlines of the video are visible but colors all distorted. Again this only happens to video that is buffered first. I believe it is only on mpeg buffered video files.

video card has latest drivers and is radeon 9550

A:no sound due to win 2000

Having first checked the obvious (speakers plugged in, switched on etc) I would have a look on the sound card manufacturers web site for the latest Win2k drivers, it is likely you are using generic (possibly even Win98/ME) ones. Also, try to get hold of the latest version of DirectX -direct sound will be updated then.
One word of caution; You need the NT/2K version of DirectX, the normal version will install and tell you its running but it does not work correctly under NT/2K.

I recently I went from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 NT. I have no sound at all now..it worked perfectly in 98. I can't enable or put the checkmark in "Sounds and Multimedia" from the control panel. Also won't allow me to put any checkmarks in volume etc. I've checked and downloaded drivers etc. even though I wasn't sure if a driver was the problem..still not working.

I checked everything under MyComputer/Properties/Soundvideogamecontrolers..Under audio it says the devices are working properly.

I right clicked MyComputer/Properties/Devicemanager and tried to delete everthing under 'sound, video and device contollers..to see if on a reboot windows would pick it up and some how reinstall everything again..but it won't allow me to delete after I right click and highlight. Is this normal? Can someone tell me how to delete this..if it's safe to do..and if in fact this would even work?

I've read elsewhere that moving the sound card to another slot helps..anyone ever hear of this? Everything seems to be connected properly...wires..speakers, etc. As I mentioned when I had Windows 98 installed on a seperate drive the sound worked fine. I had windows 2000 on C: and Windows 98 on D: (another drive). I am now only runiing Windows 2000.
Any help would be seriously appreciated...this is driving me a tad nuts.

I recently upgraded from win98se to win2000 pro. I have a onboard SoundMax soundcard. I am having prblems with my sound. When I start up I am able to play any sound for about 1 minute than the sound just stops playing. It will only play again after I re-start and than again only for a shot while before it stops.

I have asked so many people for a solution but with no luck. I even installed a spare HDD and formatted it and instaled win2000 pro hoping that this will work as someone told me it may be that I still have somestuff from my win98se running as I did not do a clean instal of win2000 pro when I upgarded.

I even tried so many different drivers with no luck. Windows shows my sound card as a AC97 soundcard.

Can anyone help with this strange problem. As a last resort I was thing of going back to win98se as I had no sound problems with win98se.

A:Sound Card compatiblity issues w/ Windows 2000

One of the big problems with win2000 is that a lot of hardware won't work because the drivers haven't been developed yet. Odds are the manufacturers are working on it. You can either wait for the driver that will eventualy come out or replace the sound card with one that you know there are drivers for.

You should beware. A friend told me about a card that said it was win2000 compatable but the drivers didn't come with it and when he went to the web site to try and download them it said they weren't available yet.

I hope someone can help me with unusual problem. (Running on a WIN 2000 sys)

We own a radio station and recently installed a high end sound card (ECHO MIA MIDI) to enhance listeners streaming experience. The on-board sound card worked fine but the sound quality was not what we wanted.
Now we're having some big problems. If we run any other application on this computer the sound quality sometimes becomes great distorted. SOmetimes it will start running real slow audio and other times it will just lock up.

To resolve the problem I added a 1 gig of memory as we were previously running in a 512 ram memory environment... Now we're running with 1 1/2 gigs of memory but the problem is taking place.

The sound card has two input jacks that we are using to bring the sound in from another computer.

Every so often (weeks apart) the sound on my computer suddenly quits. I can get it back by doing a restart (which makes me think the sound driver is just locked out when the sound quits), but I'm wondering if there is a command I could enter that would restore it without having to do a restart.

I'm not sure if the sound quits because I have had my computer up for a certain number of days/weeks, or if it's associated with (possible interactions between) on-line computer games, since it always occurs either during a game or when one or more games are present in non-active windows. Today it happened while I was in the middle of working a Shockwave jigsaw puzzle.

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro on a refurbished Dell Precision 330 w/ a Pentium 4 processor over a DSL connection. I'm not certain I know how to find out what sound card or driver I'm using. In Control Panel "Sounds and Multimedia Properties" I see SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio by Analog Devices as the preferred audio device, working properly according to the second entry in the hardware list. (All entries in the hardware list are reported to be working properly, incidentally.) There is a folder named C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SWMAXWDM which may contain the driver it uses. If I need to provide more information, please advise how to find it.

I'd appreciate learning if there's a way to correct this problem that's quicker than restarting the computer. Thanks in advance... Read more

Will someone please explain to me briefly what the difference is between all of these? Why would one want one over the other?

I guess that Windows 2000 is sort of like NT Workstation. If not, please tell me.

And what is the difference between Windows 2000 Server and 2000 Advanced Server?

A:{Advice Offered} - Windows 2000 Professional, 2000 Server, 2000 Anvanced Server--the difference?

Win2K Professional is, indeed, just NT Workstation 5.0

The real difference between Win2K Server and Win2K Advanced Server is scalability. To quote a CNET article: "Three versions of the operating system will be available next week (it's an old article): Windows 2000 Professional, aimed at PCs and workstations; Windows 2000 Server, for file-and-print servers; and Windows 2000 Advanced Server, supporting clustering, which is a way of making several systems act as a single, more powerful computer.

To quote the FAQ from www.winmag.com:
Windows 2000 Professional is the workstation edition of Windows 2000. This is basically Windows NT Workstation 5.0, although Win2K Professional of course includes all of the new technologies for Win2K.

Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server is the server edition of Windows 2000, which is designed to serve small- to mid-sized businesses and workgroups. Server supports up to 4GB of physical RAM and up to 4 processors per computer. Advanced Server supports up to 8GB of RAM and 8 processors per computer.

Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is designed for large businesses and computer clusters. Datacenter supports up to 32 processors per computer and up to 64GB of RAM, as well as built-in clustering and load-balancing features.

Is that what you wanted?

All is finally well with the settings after seemingly endless tweaks and changes except for one nagging problem. If I use Word as the email editor in Outlook (html), the "text" portion only of the email (not subject box-it is black text) is sent and arrives in a very light lime green color! You can barely read it.If I remove Word as the editor, then the text is in black--nice and clear.
I have spent hours playing with the settings in Word changing between automatic and black.I have checked and rechecked the Outlook settings.I can't shake this light lime green text with Word as the editor and I want Word as the editor--very frustrating..And something else important and related....
When you use Outlook to fax,(Symantec Fax Starter), the text arrives on all fax machines, but it is very "faint", however the subject and cover sheet are dark normal text, which makes me think it is being transmitted as light lime green, but showing up faint black as fax machines have only black shades.
Is there a setting somewhere in Windows that is impacting on Word? I've buzzed around the control panel and no success. I don't know why I can't pinpoint this--probably too easy and right there staring at me..........help!

Hard drive error code 2000-0146
Dell Inspiron 1525 computer. Screen goes black after Dell logo is shown. Ran diagnostics available when F12 key pressed when Dell Logo appeared. Two error codes came up during diagnostics. 2000-0142 and 2000-0146 "Self test log shows previous errors" Co-incidentally an email had been received with subject line "I enjoyed you in secret video" Others have had problems after this email, yet I can't find any reference to it on the net. It may only be co-incidence.
I tried booting from the installation disk. Screen showed "files loading" bar then went to the next screen with the green progress bar for a few seconds, then black and soon the hard drive ceased any activity. After a few attempts now the boot from the DVD just grinds away. There is hard drive activity but no progress.
I'm thinking bad hard drive but it doesn't seem reasonable. It is only a few months old. Ccleaner is used regularly and there hasn't been any lead up problems.

I'm running Outlook 2000 with SP3 applied:
I'm having no luck importing an outlook PST, which I created as a new data file in Outlook 2003. I created it as a 97-2000 compatible file.

when I go through the import process, it imports nothing at all... No error message, just empty folders.

This happens when I import from the local machine OR the server.

Is it possible the file is corrupt? Is there a way of checking?

I've successfully imported the 2003 version into another PC running Outlook 2003 - No problems there.. Just when trying to import the 97-2000 compatible file in to Outlook 2000

I don't quite know which forum to post in so I'll start here.

Has anyone ever have trouble signing a VBA project on Access 2000?
(I'm using Office 2000 premium.)

I've done the following:
1) installed digital signature in Office Tools
2) generated my certificate using Selfcert
3) oened my Access DB and went into the VB editor
4) opened the Tools> menu

Result: No "Digital Signature" selection was available. in the Tools menu

Looked in VB editors in Excel and Word…
"Digital Signature" *was* right there in the "Tools" menu.
Just not in Access.

In Access, went to:
View >Toolbars>Customize…>Commands>Tools
and whaddaya know… There's "Digital Signature" right there!

BUT guess what? I can't drag in onto any tool bar or open menu.

Does anyone know what's going on or has this happened to them?
I looked in Office/Access Q&A forum on the MSDN website and actually found similar posts but the only suggestions were to try the things I've already listed above.

I searched the MS knowledge base but found no pertinent answers. The Office on-line help gives little/no help for digital signatures.

Ideas? Answers?

Hello Sir,
Please guide me through the process of changing Administrator Password of Windows 2000 Server (Where SQL 2000 Server is running having Mixed mode Authentication, with blank SA password). I have once changed it from logon screen (by pressing ctrl+alt+del). But after that my SQL server stopped running (I had blank password for SQL). I couldnot fix the error.

Please tell me both the process, to be followed, while changing Windows 2000 Server password, when the SA password of SQL is (1) Blank (2) is not Blank. Please tell me is there any step to be taken in SQL 2000 Server, after changing the password of the Windows 2000 Server Administrastor?

With alot of good wishes and thanks in advance,

Whenever I launch Outlook 2000 the Office 2000 installer also launches.

I installed Office 2000 on this machine several months ago, and Outlook has run without any odd behaviour.

It also happens any time I click on a new email.

Although I installed iTunes 2 days ago, today is the first time Outlook has behaved in this way.

I'm running Win XP with SP1, and I've scanned with AVG, Spybot and Ad-Aware, with nothing negative being reproted.

When working with a brand new spread sheet w/no links- Example: data is input for columns B-E, then data sum in column F.
When updating the next ROW, there is NO formula in column F, once the data is entered, the blank cell assumes the formula from the previous row.
WE LIKE this feature & want to know:
1. How does it do that?
2. How (& under what circumstances)can I turn this feature on in other columns?

Hi Nora,

When you turn on extended formats and formulas, Microsoft Excel automatically formats new data that you type at the end of a list to match the preceding rows and automatically copies formulas that repeat in every row. To be extended, formats and formulas must appear in at least three of the five list rows preceding the new row.

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Edit tab.
Do one of the following:
To automatically format new items that you add to the end of a list to match the format of the rest of the list, select the Extend list formats and formulas check box.

To prevent automatic formatting, clear the check box.

Hope this helps.

Hi There

This is not a macro question. I have been at this for hours now with no success. I have a picture in MS word 2000. The picture is text with a box around the text. See attached MS Word 2000 file. I want to copy this picture into Excel 2000. But when I do a copy and paste, it does paste into Excel but just the box shows up and not the writing. Can someone out there copy it and paste it for me in Excel 2000 and send it to me?? I can then copy it from your Excel spread sheet into my Excel spread sheet.

Thanks for your help in this.
