While using T480 with a USB-C hub, the HDMI output doesn't function

Q: While using T480 with a USB-C hub, the HDMI output doesn't function

Hi there, I'm using a T480 ThinkPad with Windows 10, which has a built-in HDMI output port that works very well with my standard external LCD display (an old Samsung model with a regular DVI to HDMI adapter). However, when I try to use the HDMI port of my Lenovo USB-C hub (c109) instead, I found that the dispaly is recognized by the operating system but cannot really receive any signal. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for any response.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I connect my T480 Laptop to my TV via HDMI, the picture shows up, but the sound still comes from the laptop. I would prefer it come from the TV. I tried changing the TV to the default audio player, but it does not show up as an option. If anyone can help me address this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there
sometimes it seems when plugging in a laptop to an LCD TV monitor the picture seems slightly larger than the screen which can be annoying as the charms or task bar can get hard to see or access.

This can actually be fixed on a lot of monotors - for example the Samsung ones -- Note IT'S NOT A VIDEO DRIVER ISSUE.

GO into the MONITORS Menu and select picture mode. Look for something like Aspect Ratio.

Change 16:9 which it usually is to SCAN / AUTOSCAN or whatever seems like that

Hey presto the picture will now fit on the screen perfectly.

I often use a laptop which has an HDMI output on TV monitors - especially when travelling - and it often irritated me why I could never get the picture to fit perfectly on the screen (Native size of laptop screen 1366 X 768 --fine on an 11 inch screen -- but it does have full 1080p HDMI output as well as RGB monitor output and this is 1920 X 1080 OK also for screens up to 44 ins.

Hope this little trick helps some people --I Googled everywhere about this but couldn't find it.

Cheers
jimbo

What have I missed out on here?

Hello All,

Well this is starting to drive me to distraction and Im hoping theres someone who can put me out my missery lol.

I have been trying to hook my laptop (toshiba satellite pro p300) up to my LCD TV via the same HDMI cable I use for my PS3 but the connector just wont fit. I keep finding all these posts in various forums saying how they cant get sound out the HDMI connection...that would be great, as at least that means they have them connected.

Are there different connections for HDMI? The one I have is diagonal connector but the port on the laptop is more square, and just doesnt fit. So if there isnt a connector, does that mean I have a funky port, on the laptop.

There is also the matter of connection my laptop to my amp that controls the surround sound system. What connection is best to use, as there is no real audio out connections?

Cheers

A:Satellite Pro P300 - HDMI output port doesn't fit

Hi

Can you please tell us what Satellite Pro P300 you have exactly? I mean the exact model number.
Maybe you can also post a picture of the HDMI port. Normally there are no different HDMI ports, all have the same physical dimension.
I?m not PS3 owner but maybe it has a special connector. Have you tried another cable?

Regarding the audio connection I use the normal line out port for my external speakers. Did you test this?

I have had my Thinkpad connected to a Samsung TV via HDMI cable (through a Thinkpad dock) for months with no problems. After the latest Lenovo updates (see attached screenshot file) my Thinkpad intermittently fails to recognize the Samsung TV as an audio output... it does not register as an audio device in audio settings nor in control panel, yet it does still connect to the TV as a 2nd monitor and video works fine. It seeems to alternate every other time that I boot up the computer. One boot-up it fails to recognize the TV as an audio output, then I'll reboot and it works.

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

(Note 3) Simultaneous output for DVI-D and HDMI is not supported.

What I'm trying to do is output just my sound to the receiver via HDMI cable, but still use the DVI to my monitor for video. From the note above taken from the MB specs, sounds like this is not possible.

This is new business to me and wondering how others do this, seems little information I can find. I am ordering a HDMI to DVI cable so I can disconnect the DVI cable from the computer and instead run both video and sound through HDMI to the receiver, then the video to the monitor. Hoping this works.

If all fails then I am relegated to separate digital through S/PDIF optical link, to my receiver. According to the experts this is less than ideal since now, the multi-channel dolby and DTS signals can only be received via HDMI.

Wondering if I get a Blu-ray player for my computer how this is going to all work out. Hoping that HDMI to DVI cable does the trick.

Anyone with experience with this kind of set-up and the aforementioned hardware greatly appreciated.

And Happy NEW YEAR!

A:Gigabyte HDMI output to Yamaha receiver - no sound output

As you have a separate video card, its capabilities should determine how the video works, not the motherboard. The video is routed to the video card.

If you had some type of integrated Video on the motherboard then the motherboard's specs would apply. For example, I have an Intel i7 3770 CPU and this model has built in Intel HD4000 video which is routed to motherboard video connectors and thus the motherboard would determine how the video is distributed. However, I'm using a separate video card and thus that determines how video is distributed.

Hello guys!

I recently ran into a problem with my main LCD TV(I need to replace the power supply.) I use that LCD TV for my desktop computer, and right now all I have is my laptop. I use synergy to control both computers. However now it doesn't matter because I cannot see the desktop portion. Is there anyway for me to output my desktop computer to my laptop monitor?

Both my Desktop and Laptop have HDMI input. I also have the HDMI cord on hand right now I just don't know how I'd go about setting it up. I'd like to use synergy to control the desktop AND have it's output be on the laptop until my power supply arrives and I can fix my TV.

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.

I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.

So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

I have no idea what's relevant, so I don't know what to post screenshots of, but I've read tons of other threads with the same issues but none of their solutions seem to work for me.

A:Realtek HDMI Output ATI HDMI Audio -Not Plugged In-

Info on your computer would help. We can only talk in generalites or suggestions without it. In most cases, if you have a full HDMI port with both audio and video, when you plug in an HDMI cable Windows changes the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (your PC sound card) to "HDMI".

In your case the ATI (now called AMD) should be the device that is feeding the video and audio.

As your PC is only 1 month old, the PC vendor's tech support should be the ones to call since you haven't been able to find a solution to date.

Hello all, I just spilled some coffee on my laptop - but I'll get that solved ( n and  ? don't work ) . But because of this I started searching for a temporary keyboard that I could use until I figure out what's happening with the one of the laptop. Now, I'm a touch typist and I work with the function keys a lot and I figured that, though I like the keyboard from the T480,  a lot, I have a big problem with it: I hate the lack of guide bumps or any other way of knowing where you are on the function key row just by sliding your finger over them.  I would really like a bump or at least a small split between the keys for the next model. Is this something that you have also a problem with or maybe you know something I don't and there is some way to know where you are without looking at them . What say you ?

I just brought a new monitor with the features: [email protected], 10 bit, HDR, and Freesync. It's from a Chinese retailer (https://item.jd.com/28738527027.html) and the monitor's model is Koios K2718UD and it's using LG's LM270WR3-SSA1 display panel. The display driver inside the monitor is called JRY-W9UHD (http://archive.is/nahzI). It's brand is Koios (seems not well known internationally) but it's price is good, other brands using this panel or panels with similar specifications are mostly above $300. It has one DP 1.2 port, two HDMI 1.4 ports and one HDMI 2.0 port. The retailer's website said it can only support HDR through HDMI not through DP. I have a T470 and another T480 in company, as described in Lenovo's specification documents (https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20T480/ThinkPad_T480_Platform_Specificati...) , the builtin HDMI port on these two models only support up to HDMI 1.4b which does not support HDMI 2.0, so can't do [email protected] So it appears I have to buy a thunderbolt3/type c to HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.2 adapter in order to get [email protected] But what should I choose and can they do HDR/10bit/Freesync? It appears there are chips inside these adapters, but no one has benchmaked/compared these chips. Hi,

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

Greetings. I have a T480 connected to a Pro docking station (the one with the side connectors). I am triying to connect it to an HDM TV via a DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.0 active adapter. Windows detects a connected screen, and the TV detects input in that channel, but there is no image nor audio.Things I have tried already:- Updated thunderbolt firmware and drivers, and everything available from Lenovo.- Tried both intel graphics drivers from their website and the Lenovo OEM ones.- Tried a Variety of refresh rates and resolutions.- Trying the adapter In a x220 displayport: it works without problems, so the problem isn't the cable.- Testing a different, passive adapter: It works with the T480.- Numerous reboots, disconnecting the dock and everything from it, and connecting one device at a time.- Tried both displayports with each of the 4 HDMI inputs of the TV.- Thunderbolt assist mode in bios disabled. And that's all I remember from the top of my head. Any idea as to why is this happening?

At my workplace I plug my ThinkPad T480 with a USB 3 hub to my rear USB port and a HDMI cable to a secondary monitor. Lately, I've been experiencing a disturbing frequency of BSOD (IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL) when I unplug them both at the end of the day. When I review the latest updates, there have been two recent ThinkPad Video Features Driver updates. I can't pinpoint that as a culprit for sure; all I see in the System event log is a Bugcheck error. The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff8017a467daf). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 6388c813-d458-4079-8772-ab9187d4d541. Has anybody else with T4** laptops experience any similar problems? Changed cables
Attempted to force output, but the only output available i through VGA, and it will not output anything
Reset my whole PC to factory setting just in case
Spent over an hour with tech support, who claims it should simply plug and play.
Screwed with the output resolutions.

Nothing has helped.

When i connect the hdmi cable to the back of the PC, there is no automatic discovery in windows.

My main problem is when i plug the HDMI or the VGA in, nothing happens on either screen,  So i was wondering how can i go about getting this fixed so i can install the correct drivers and have a somewhat normally functional laptop.

ive tried installing the laptop drivers while the SSD was in another computer * does not work  computer just crashs due to wrong drivers being installed*

Question is, does my pc now output its graphics in HDMI, or only when i watch HD movies through it? I've looked and looked but no dice so i thought i'd ask you bunch of experts

A:HDMI Output?

Your PC outputs it's video signal via whatever cable is connecting the graphic card to the display. If you have it connected via HDMI then your PC is outputting the video via HDMI. HDMI is just the name of the interface. Whether you're watching HD movies or not, the signal is still being output through HDMI. Your PC doesn't output "HDMI". If it's connected with HDMI, then it outputs in "digital" as HDMI is a digital interface.

Hi All

My first post :

Will be buying a new HD monitor, but I do not have HDMI out or DVI-D out from my CPU so what do I do .Right now I only have VGA output.

A:How to take HDMI output from old CPU which has only VGA

there are vga to hdmi cables, but they WILL NOT WORK. you MUST buy an actual converter like above to convert an analog signal (VGA) to a digital signal (HDMI)

Can you use the keyboard fn key + another key (whichever one allows you to output the video to another screen)? If you don't know what I'm talking about, there is a keyboard combination which shows a screen that says computer only, duplicate, extend, or projector only. This allows you to direct the video, so you could have the screen show on both the computer and the tv, just the tv, just the computer, etc. It is the fn key + one of the f keys. Mine is f7, but yours probably isn't the same. Just try messing around with the fn key + one of the f keys to get the duplicate, extend, computer only, projector only screen.
