Can't turn on Windows Security Center Service, Microsoft Security Essentials is also off

Q: Can't turn on Windows Security Center Service, Microsoft Security Essentials is also off

Problems:While googling it redirects me to sites - "http://directagain.net/in.php?source=7777&q=&suid=1101&rnd=3xz%2B1mgzFz9AZ7RtJ0%2Bx2w%3D%3D"and"http://www.ihavenet.com/?search=&n=1355828587"(there are some more redirections, but at the moment these are the most frequent)After copying "http://www.ihavenet.com/" from address bar or search bar it pastes "google.com" (I'm using Firefox atm).Bigger problems:Microsoft Security Essentials starts only for the moment on the boot-up and after that is gone.I can't turn on Windows Security Center Service.I tried:Starting WSCS from services.msc and setting it to "Automatic (Delayed)" and after restarting PC..same.Reinstalling MSE didn't work.I used CCleaner. And please tell me is cleanpcguide.com valid site?Did the scan with AdwCleaner and deleted all the threats.Did the scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and deleted all the threats.Did the scan with TDSSKiller and deleted all the threats.I've made "Windows Defender Offline" Bootable USB and did the scan. It only found keygen that I've never used. Deleted it.I did a little "house cleaning" (nice, yeah) but the problem is still there! If someone have an idea what's the problem, please help. Thanks in advance.Sorry for this big post, and I appreciate for you time.

Preferred Solution: Can't turn on Windows Security Center Service, Microsoft Security Essentials is also off

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Security Center service for Windows 7 cannot start & Security Essentials not working

Hi,

The Security Center service cannot be started due to virus destruction.

Have you tried the repair for Windows? If not, you can go to following SkyDrive to load the registry and import it to check the result.

http://cid-9fb18a384ebfc662.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Documents/wscsvc%5E564%5E6.zip

Before importing it, please back up the following registry key first. Just find the key and right click it, choose export and save to desktop.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\wscsvc]

After importing the correct registry, please go to services Windows to check if Security Center starts properly.

I have windows xp Professional Version 2002 sp3. Seems I got a virus when I down loaded a movie(my bad). Was getting the BSOD, and alerts for Windows Automatic Updates to be turned on. Also I am running Microsoft security essentials which also won't update. Although Malwarebytes updates automatically. I downloaded Superantispyware and ran it 3 times in safe mode .Found and deleted malware. Rebooted and so far no BSOD ( fingers crossed). Still get the alerts for the updates.

I have a problem with my WSCS, when I tried to turn it on, "The windows security center services can't be started" always appearing. I've tried to enable it with "services.msc", but I can't find "security center" like in the image below.

Can somebody help me please? I can't use Windows Update if I'm not turn WSCS on.

You mean the service isn't listed under services.msc ?

Anyways, Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

A:How to turn on Windows Security Center Service?

In order to start the Windows Security Center service, go to Services on your local computer and start the Security Center service from there.
To do that, type 'services' in the Start search box and hit enter. From the list of services find 'Security Center'. Click on the link on the left that says "Start the service". This should start the service, but if this does not work, please revert back
here. Hope it helps!

Every time I switch on my PC, after about 5 minutes, I get this annoying notification (see picture) from my OS asking me to turn on the security center service; please, note that, on my PC, I am judge, jury and executioner, meaning I decide what stays on and off, at least I've always been so although now, with Windows 10, this has become somehow more difficult. So, yes, I have turned off the security center service because I don't need it and I don't want it! Furthermore, I most definitely don't want anyone reminding me about it!
Now. I've tried disabling every possible notification I could find under the notification menu and the security center one; I've Googled for a solution but I haven't found anything: apparently, everybody loves this service. Well, I don't so, if anybody knows a way to get rid of that pestering message, please, be so kind as to share it.
Thanks in advance, D.

While I'm here, is it possible to obtain system privileges in Windows 10? I've tried the old trick with the cmd task but it doesn't work anymore: the cmd windows does open and with "system" as well but it's not interactive apparently.
Thanks again.

A:Turn on windows security center service nagging message

Sorry, chum, I have the same reservations about this, but it's basically impossible to shut that off. If you turn it off, you will be nagged to death about it. I used to do exactly what you are trying, but from Windows 7 up, it has become impossible to not run that service without substantial nagging.

To get to the Admin Command Prompt, press Win+X and choose "Command Prompt (Admin)" - Under Windows 7 you could go to the "Run" panel and choose the "Run as Administrator" checkbox while entering "CMD", but that has all been changed because it's all there in the Win+X shortcut.

Is this part of the MSE? I can't turn it back on, first trying to figure out what this is?

A:Confused? Is "Action Center" part of the Microsoft Security Essentials?

Action Center is baked into Windows 7. It replaces XP's "Security Center" (and whatever Vista had...I don't remember).

Microsoft Security Essentials is an anti-virus program made by Microsoft. Is is a separate entity from the Action Center, but the two interact to provide you with information about your computer (specifically whether or not MSE is up to date).

Hello,DDS logs attached and pasted below. Did I get it all? Thanks in advance :-)My dad called me at work to tell me that his XP Security Center was going off, warning him that his AV product wasn't running and/or up to date. The thing was, MS Security Essentials was as happy as it could be: definitions were up to date, realtime protection was on. A reboot didn't help either. That was weird. So I got to his house. By then, XP's Security Center had calmed down and reported no issues. However, opening and closing Firefox with Google as his homepage would create a detection in MS Security Essentials. MSSE called it a Blacole or Blachole exploit kit. It would show up in his Firefox cache.MSSE would quarantine it. I would delete it, and it be gone until I opened and closed Firefox again. Then it would appear again and MSSE would quarantine it again. So, I unplugged his computer from the net, and I ran a full Scan with MSSE. It found a Java exploit in some Java cache files with the common vulnerability name thingy CVR-2010-0840. It may have found some other stuff, but its not in the history any more.Than I ran a MBAM scan. It found a few more things:Files Detected: 6C:\Documents and Settings\Ernie\Desktop\Brian\Sony PC and nLIte and TinyXP files\(ACCUXP)\kv.exe (RiskWare.Tool.CK) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.C:\Documents and Settings\Ernie\Local Settings\Temp\ICReinstall_PDFReaderSetup.exe (Adware.... Hello guys (and girls),I don't give up very easy, that's not really my thing. But this here, is really out of my league.I feel like giving up at this point and leave the Digital Western World to go live in a cave.I am trying over a week now to get rid of Microsoft Security Essentials.I even suspect that there are two different Trojans/Programs running (Security Tool & Microsoft Security Essentials.I think I really tried everything. Running Rkill.exe to stop processes. Ran malwarebytes at least 50 times, threw the outcome away, but it will pop up right after restart. Ran Spybot S&D, threw stuff out of the registry. Nothing seems to help What the programs do is that everthing is considered a virus by one of them (MSE/ST), the Pop-up will say: "firefox.exe is a virus", ctrl+alt+delete+ a virus, etc;* Websites as: Trendmicro Housecall and SuperAntiSpyware are being bloked;* Programs like Ad-Aware and TweakXp are impossible to install;I read a lot of post from people that said that after they ran MalwareBytes, everything was nice and clean again... IMPOSSIBLE! It keeps on popping up, no matter what I throw away. Anybody running Microsoft's Security Essentials on Windows 7 x64?

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (retail upgrade) and after doing all my installs I installed Microsoft's Security Essentials. At first I did a "quick scan and it took like 10 minutes, however doing a full scan took at least 8.5 hours! This is going through 10 partitions on 3 hard drives.

By contrast Kaspersky takes about 60 minutes or less to do a full system scan the same system.

Is there a problem with MSE doing full scans and has anyone else noticed this.

On the positive side I visited a website posted by a forum member on one of the game forums I visit and MSE flag a file trying to install itself on my computer. Good job.

A:Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows 7

10 partitions and 3 drives. Thats whats taking so long. You might try adding some exclusions. MSSE>Settings>Exclude File Types.

I added quite a few exclusions since there arent any be default. Every other virus scanner has a default set. So you will need to add some to MSSE. Thsi will speed up scanning... Here are some to get you started..

AVI, BMP, CHM, INI, ICO, JPG, HXW, MPG, MP3, PNG, TXT, WMV, XML

You can also exclude know safe folders under the Excluded Files & Locations.

But, I guess the latest "gimmick" is that all the download sites, that I thought, and imply, are MS sites are some other third party sites that also automatically change your Browser to Chrome, and install AVG !

Can anyone point me to the official MS site please, and what I should select to just have the anti-virus

BTW: how does it compare to AVAST free ? Differences ?

Hey peeps, just thought i'd give you all a heads up, got a notification from windows update telling me that there are new updates available, these updates are windows live essentials and microsoft security essentials.

These consist of several programs:

Microsoft security essentials is a new program developed by microsoft which takes a new look at windows defender, there's a new, cleaner interface, new icon, and seems pretty fast after the first quick scan... screenshot below:

live essentials is the same live essentials pack you get from the microsoft live site, not much new here, bing bar is included instead of the live search bar, that is all.

MrNeeds

A:Microsoft Security Essentials - Windows Update

Thanks for the update.

MSE gave me a pop-up advising me there was an upgrade and inviting me to download and install it which I did. To be honest, I really didn't pay enough attention to the program (except when I got it a while back and set it up) so I don't really see much of any difference in the looks. I have noticed it does scan a bit quicker though - so an MS update/upgrade that actually improved things for a change.

I downloaded the whole Essentials 2011 Suite about a week ago or so. I like some of the changes and not some of the others. I preferred the Live Toolbar to the Bing toolbar - you could customize it more and could give more space to the search box (which I can't seem to be able to widen and think it can't be done). I also wish there were a way to turn off the alert just because I have pop-ups enabled - it should allow you to disable alerts for the items you choose to enable so if a real alert occurs you can notice it. While I like WLM better than Windows Mail, I'm still having trouble connecting to one of my newsgroups (but otherwise it works fine) - though I rarely use it except for newsgroups as I use Outlook 2007 instead. I'm on the fence about Messenger. It seems to take up too much of the screen now with details I'm not really interested in (but end up reviewing because they're there). I don't really use the other applications but downloaded them anyway so I'd be able to fire them up to help answer questions about them in the forum.

Hi Guys,

My Brothers laptop running Windows 7 has Windows Bitdefender & Microsoft Security Essentials installed.

Windows Bitfender is turned off and unable to be turned.

My question is should you only have Windows Bitdefender installed on your laptop or just Microsoft Security Essentials installed but not the two programmes which is why Windows Bitfender can't be turned on?

There is one other issue with his laptop where some times when at the desktop his screen goes black for a few seconds  then all the desktop icons enlarge as well as the taskbar bulking out the desktop area.

If he shuts down the laptop the desktop is normal for 5 minutes and sometimes 1 hour then back to the black screen for a few seconds and enlarged icons.

Any suggestions please.

Hi

Can anyone help me with this. I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed on my Windows 7 PC. Until recently this has completed a full scan without any problems. Now it has begun stalling after roughly 45 minutes. I ran a full scan over the past two nights but with the same results. I can do a Quick Scan OK and I can do a Full Scan in Safe Mode, but not in Normal Mode. I have had Malwarebytes Premium installed for ages and it hasn't caused any conflict with MSE. However, recently I installed Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware (both free copies). I uninstalled Ad-Aware and that is when the problem started.

I have unistalled (with great difficulty) MSE and reinstalled it but to no avail. I would welcome any help and suggestions.

Many thanks

George

A:Microsoft Security Essentials Windows 7 stalls

If it was after you uninstalled Ad-Aware that the problem started, have you tried re-installing it? Set both Ad-Aware and Spybot only to run on demand, don't have them running in the background in conflict with MSE. Have you tried uninstalling Spybot?

Have you tried a System Restore position from before the problem started?

Hi,

I would love for someone to help with an issue I have been having with MS essentials, upon booting up of my laptop I get an error message from MS essentials ( 0x80073b01)

I've had a look around and downloaded various different things to help, hitman pro managed to find three things that I know should not be there but it cant repair it.
these are the notes that hitman pro found:

   Redirection: Backup -> c:\windows\system32\config
Disables Microsoft Security Essentials (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client)

   Redirection: Drivers -> c:\windows\system32\config
Disables Microsoft Security Essentials (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client)

   Redirection: en-us -> c:\windows\system32\config
Disables Microsoft Security Essentials (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client)

I have no idea how to fix this, I currently cannot search for new updates due to this problem, and it deactivated my firewall also but I have thankfully managed to get that running again ( I think ).

I found a link that is alot like the problem I seem to be having, If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it:

Hi,

Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
 rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/
Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
Do not reboot until instructed.
If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

Once the scan has finished running, a file named Rkill.txt should be located on the desktop. Please copy and copy the contents into your next reply.

I've been onto all kinds of sites, reading about people who cannot start windows defender, and cannot start it manually. Relax!

First Windows defender is only back up antivirus software graciously adapted into Vista, really its only for those who are not running any antivirus software at all. Sooo, if your running any other antivirus software you should disable defender anyway. Multiple antivirus packages running together is not a good thing. They litterally fight against each other, so only use one.

Secondly, defender will not run, and you cannot start it manually if you are running microsoft security essentials. Essentials will automatically turn off defender. Don't freak out, this is supposed to happen. If you really want defender to run, you must uninstall essentials. Although, I highly recommend essentials, Norton 360 is also great.

Hi,

I can no longer find where to access the Security Essentials that is built in on Windows 7. I've tried searching on Google but it keeps claiming it needs to be installed when I know it's built-in as I used it a little over a month ago.

Also is their any difference between the built in client and Microsoft Security Essentials. Thanks

A:Microsoft Security Essentials (Built-In Windows 7 protection)

The built in version is "windows defender" (just search for defender and you will find it) and although it uses the same virus definitions as Security Essentials I don't think it offers the same level of protection or options as MSE itself. Installing MSE automatically disables windows defender.
I would go ahead and install MSE - Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

Click help for more information about this problem. Error code: 0x800705b4 So I didn't feel like dealing with this, and just decided to do an uninstall/re-install. When I tried THAT (via add/remove programs in control panel), I got this message: The Security Essentials Installation Wizard is missing a filter manager rollup package needed to complete the installation. To continue installing Security Essentials, you must first download the required package. (I click it, and nothing happens) I googled this problem, and found a possible solution on the Microsoft support forums, which was to do a Windows Update. So I try THAT, and even that won't even load, as I get THIS message: The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context. Talk about annoying. Help is appreciated, because I really don't know what to do now!
