X1 Yoga 3rd Gen replacement keys

Q: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen replacement keys

I've had my X1 Yoga 3rd Gen for a couple of months, generally very happy with it. Yesterday I noticed the right arrow key (bottom right of the keyboard, under the PgDn key) is broken - not completely, but the left half of it stays depressed when pushed down. Aside from the fact that I'm unhappy this has happened so soon after purchase (and my sense that it may be a function of the retractable keys and that there's more of the same to come), I'd like to know (a) if these keys can be replaced and (b) what I need to purchase and from where. I've had a look at various sites including http://www.laptopkey.com/ and none have any specific reference to the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen. Can anyone help please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Since your machine is new or at least less than 1 year old it should be under warranty. If it was me i would call support to have keyboard replaced. I have never had a key fall off but have had keys that were "overly" sensitive. I would hit a nearby key and it would trigger the key next to it as well. Lenovo replaced the keyboard and problem was solved.

I used my Yoga 13 on my lap. When i repositioned it, one of the keys came off (the 'N'-key). A very small piece of plastic broke of the keycap.I've searched online for replacement keys, but there are no replacement keys available yet. Does anyone know if the keys from the Yoga are shared with other (Lenovo) laptops or how i can get a replacment 'N' key?

My X1 Yoga keyboard stopped responding suddenly. Was working fine, walked away for 15 minutes, came back to wake from sleep and no key response. Track button and click buttons on keyboard work fine. Caps lock and F1 indicator lights don't work either. The touchpad is fine. None of the keys work at all. Didn't install any new software or updates. Bought replacement keyboard from laptopkeyboard.com and replaced but still same exact issue so don't believe it is a faulty membrane (as suspected).  Pulling hair out trying to understand.  Only thought is maybe either the system board or the ribbon cable from the keyboard to the board went bad.  There are two ribbon cables from the keyboard to the system board.  My guess is one is for the track buttons and the other for the keys.  Before replacing these, hoping someone has some other idea (maybe like a simple software glitch?).  Thanks.

Just got this Yoga 3 14 series laptop for cheap from a local shop, and it works great on Windows 10 except for one minor but annoying thing. In the Lenovo settings app, the keyboard settings for switching between F keys and the hot keys being on the function row are reversed. If I set it to have hot keys without FN, it instead does the F row functions without FN.If I set it to have F keys without FN, it instead does the hot key functions without FN. Anyone have this problem before, and is there a fix? Hi all, I have recently lost the keys for my x6 ultrabase. The laptop is left on its base which is tethered to my desk and it can spend a large amount of the day there unsupervised. So the lock is very important to me. The problem is, as far as I can tell, is that replacement keys are only available from an American base - I must be the only person in Europe with an ultrabase I have deduced ! Anyway that's normally not a problem and just a slight inconvenience shipping times wise. But then the shipping rate I was given was 28  ... for 2 keys that weigh no more than a few grams. I have mailed them on this but have not got a response. Long story short, is there a way to get these keys in Europe for anything less than a combined cost of 40 ? Thanks all for readingThomas

I doubt if you can purchase individual keys for the keyboard, but you can most likely purchase a new keyboard for the laptop through HP's online parts store:

Hello, I have been having some issues with my Envy 15 TouchSmart notebook for a little over a year now. At first, just the G, H, and backspace keys were giving me issues. They would occasionally become less and less senstitive until I had to press extremely forcefully to get a response. Now the issue has moved to other keys, and it has become impractical to not use an external keyboard (which is very inconvinent for a laptop). At first, I figured it was a driver issue, since the problem would temporarily (a few minutes or so) be fixed by a hard reset of the PC. I had uninstalled my keyboard driver, and even reset my motherboard by removing the CMOS battery and clearing the CMOS, but that has not worked.  I then figured it had to be a hardware issue, so I had my keyboard replaced completely with a brand new one, but the issue persists. The same exact keys even.  I still believe this to be a hardware issue, but I cannot think of a cause. I have not spilled anything on the computer or exposed it to excessive moisture, but I am a college student who lugs it around campus in his bag, so maybe a card may have cracked? Any help/suggestions would be really appreciated!Alex

Typically you can't replace keys individually, but you can replace the keyboard (typically). Cost is usually $10~30 but that depends on the model.

Hey everyone,

I've got a Dell XPS L502X with Win7 x64, that recently underwent massive cleaning, and virus removal.  After I was finished, my laptop was somewhat functional again, however I had tons of corrupt system files and the system would hang for 1-2 minutes at random times throughout the day.  At this point I decided to backup my personal files, and do a clean re-install of the OS.  However, despite my best efforts to re-install the OS after the drive was formatted, the installation was constantly failing around 55%. So I ran CHKDSK f until it completed (about 9 hrs.. -_-), and attempted to re-install again with no luck.

After this failure, I ended up taking it in to a local repair shop. The guys there ran diagnostics and let me know that the HDD was bad, and needed to be replaced. The original HDD was the stock 750gb that came from Dell, however since it was already in the shop, I told them to go ahead and install a 1TB HDD since they said it would be a minimal price difference. Here's where things get weird... When I picked it up (yesterday), everything "seemed" to be working fine, however, I thought it was odd that I didn't recognize some of the drivers they used to get it up and running; but I thought hey, probably just the most recent driver updates. Once I began browsing with chrome, I immediately noticed that neither one of my control keys were functioning, as I couldn't use the keyboard shortcuts to switch between tabs.... Read more

A:Control Keys not working after HDD replacement&OS Re-install

This is primarily a legal problem - not a computing one - and the problem here is that consumer legislation varies so much from one country to another. At a guess you live somewhere in the Western half of the USA or Canada, judging by local time.

It might seem reasonable that if you take an equipment in to have a problem repaired that you should get it back without a new one - but!  Can you put forward any evidence that the keyboard was working properly immediately before you took it into the shop ?  If you can you would be in a much stronger position when it comes to negotiating.

As I see it, you have two choices. The first is to leave it to the tender mercies of your local repair shop, but try to beat them down on the price. The other is to take it back as it is and try to fix it yourself, and that depends on how confident you feel about your skills.

The only other thing that might help you is the drivers that were installed. It is extremely easy to find drivers for a Dell, all you need is the number off the bar code somewhere on it and access to the Dell web-site. These will take straight to the page listing the drivers for your computer and if these are not the drivers that were installed then they have been less than 100% professional.

I am sorry I cannot be more positive, but if you want to pick a fight - and here, at home, I would be inclined to - you need local advice as to your position and the 'local' bit I definitely can't help... Read more

I bought a backlit keyboard for my p50 from an online reseller (part# SN20K85143/ FRU 00PA317) because I thought having a backlit keyboard would be nice, and the price was good second hand (looks like new, seller said he prefered non lit version hence sale). I didn't have the time to replace the keyboard and it got left for a few months in the box, you know how it is sometimes ! So I installed the keyboard today (finally) and everything went fine. Boot into the OS and everything looks grand. Backlights work, function options work. I then do a quick keyboard test in note pad and I discover that some keys do not work. Specifically [T,Y,P,[,], and delete keys, also Up, down arrows) . I reseated the connector ribbons to check if the problem was there, same issue on reboot. I put back my original keyboard and that worked fine (using it now), so I hadn't damaged the connectors on the logic board. I wonder if thier is some mapping incompatability ? I couldn't find a similar issue on the forum. Helpful suggestions please ? ty

I need to upgrade the 128 GB ssd in my Yoga 3 14 to a 256 ssd or hybrid drive.  This drive is very thin - only 5mm - and I cannot find a 256 GB replacement drive for it even though Lenovo sells a Yoga 3 14 with a 256 GB drive.   Where/how can I obtain this 256 GB drive?  Lenovo parts and retail sales website and phone support is woefully unhelpful - multiple calls with no call returns or referrals to other extentions where the person just referred me to another extension.

A:Yoga 3 14 ssd replacement

I have found a good solution to my problem of replacing the small 128 GB ssd on my Yoga 3 14.  The answer is a 500 GB hybrid drive from Seagate - ST500LX012.  This drive is only 5mm high, installs perfectly and fairly easily into the Yoga 3 14 in the mounting space for the hard drive.  Because it's a hybrid drive, it's fast - boots nearly as fast as the SSD that it replaces and generally seems nearly as quick as the SDD, for way less money.  The space allowed for the drive in this Yoga is only 5mm high and I found that a 7mm or thicker drive will not work in this machine if you want to actually lock it securely in place with the existing brackets.  Finding this drive was not easy, as Seagate won't sell it directly and the normal online retailers don't carry it, at least not yet, though they certainly should.  I found the drive finally at www.harddrivesforsale.  Again, Lenova support/sales was no help at all in finding a larger capacity replacement drive and was very disappointing.

I've been getting the dreaded blue screen of death with the memory management error for a while now and knowing the RAM is soldered on I figured there was nothing I could do about it, shutting the computer off once a day seemed to help but if I'm using it for a full day then it crashes. Today I had a new one which was the BSoD and the pfn_list_corrupt error so I ran the memory diagnostic and it came back with a hardware problem with the memory, now I suspected that this was the issue with the memory management errors but now this seems to confirm it. So what are my options, just put up with it? It seems there's no real fix but aside from the annoyance of crashes and restarts which for now I can just about live with, is this going to ultimately kill my yoga or not? This along with the wifi problem (thankfully switching that out fixed it) pretty much means this will be the last lenovo product in this household. If I can get another year out of it then I won't feel quite as bad about buying it....BTW is the Pro short for problematic?

Hi, No one should have to put up with a computer that is not working correctly. If your computer is in warranty do activate it.If not, and assuming the cause is a bad memory chip, you could explore a really invase alternative that is to replace the memory chips. This will requisite advanced eletronics knowledg, a BGA soldering station and new chips. AS you can guess this will not be easy and should be done by a professional. Or you could ask Lenovo for a repair quote. If everything else fails, new computer  Are your shure it's a hardware memory problem? Have you tried restoring to a factory image? Tried playing around with drivers?

Hello, I recently got my Yoga 730 (back in December), and the keyboard has been acting super odd and I was wondering if this is a common issue or if there are any easy fixes. Like a week and a half ago a set of keys on the right side of my keyboard started to break. It seems like these keys are all interconnected somehow based on their locations. The keys are, 0, P, [, ;, ', and /. The weird thing is they aren't completely broken. For example, yesterday I could not get any of those listed keys, along with G and H, to work, but this morning I opened up my laptop and they are all working perfectly. I am sure it is only a matter of time before they give out again. The laptop is still under warranty, but they said the process of shipping it in, repairing it, and shipping it back will all take about 2 weeks which is a long time to not have a laptop I use a lot each day for both school and work. I am wondering if there is possibly a simple repair I could do myself to fix the keys, or about how much would it cost to have a third-party repair shop do the fix in shop. Some other miscellanous information: The keys are not 'sticky', they feel the same as the functioning keys so there is nothing preventing them from being pressed down completely. I have not spilled anything on the keyboard so there is no damage from that. Thanks for reading.

A:Yoga 730 Keyboard Replacement

Generally, if it's still under warranty, you'll want to send it in rather than fix it yourself and that's assuming it's the keyboard, itself, and not some driver conflict.

Just to be clear, the keyboard is not physically "broken" in any way. It's just that the listed keys often don't function properly, correct?

You could try using System Restore to roll the 730 back to a restore point from before you had the issue. Also try a clean boot or boot into Safe Mode to see if it happens, there.

Dear forum members,  I bought a Yoga 900 () from Best buy. It has international warranty. During my recent visit to India, for unknown reason, the laptop started behaving wierdly. It used to shut down when plugged in to the power source and would run fine when not plugged in. Since it has international warranty, I took it to the service center in India and got to know that the motherboard needs to be replaced. But they dont have the same motherboard as the architecture Lenovo uses in India is different than the states.  Since I am not returning to US for next few months (traveling to Europe), I would want to get it fixed in India.  The result is that they are ready to replace the motherboard with the Indian variant however, it has 8GB RAM instead of 16GB RAM I had on the original motherboard.  Now, the question is: should I go for this replacement? If yes then what would be the impact of the downgrade of RAM? And finally, would it affect any other parts in the laptop (possible compatibility issues)? Any suggestions / comments are welcome! -AJ
