Battery drain on Yoga 3 pro

Q: Battery drain on Yoga 3 pro

My Yoga 3 pro's battery is draining at 5-7% per hour even when the machine is powered off.(not sleeping or hibernating - properly shut down)This has happened about a year ago, where both battery and motherbord have been replace under warrany.Lenovo technicians claim it has, this time, something to do with the HDMI PCB and cable. The machine is already two weeks in "repair". My question: Is this a known issue? if so, what is the correct/recommended course of action?(other than not buying Lenovo... too late) Thanks, Assaf.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

I'm having problems with my 910 yoga. He's been carrying it for more than two days and it's only 44%. Unlike the other posts, where yoga is connected and does not carry my charges very slowly. Also when I remove the power cable the battery drains very fast.
1) I already updated the BIOS
2) I already unplugged and reinstalled the battery drives
I do not know what else to do.

Hi, I have an Yoga 900 that worked fine (mostly). However, now I have an annoying issue regarding the battery.  Going from 100% to about 76% could take about 2 hours, but... from 76% to 6% takes a minute. It doesnt downscale normally, but rather jumps immediately down to 6% and then warns me about low battery...  With this issue, the computer is completely useless without the powercord...so, its a bit useless as a laptop yes. Would really appreciate any help here!! Running Win 10 with the latest updates.

Hi guys, In February, I received my Yoga 710-14ikb and I was thrilled because of the advertised battery life and low weight. However, I have started noticing that 5 months in, my battery drains 10-15% (in 17 hours) when it's turned off. I have set the "what does the power button do" to shut down and the ''close the lid'' to do nothing. There is no heavy usage of the laptop, no downloading etc.In my previous laptop (ideapad 510), this happened as well and eventually progressed into losing ~50% in 48 hours. They ended up repairing it twice and taking it back in the end and this cost a lot of time.  Does anybody have any solutions for this problem?Kind regards,Maarten

I got my yoga 920 two months ago. Everything looks fine expect recent battery drain after shutdown. I shut down my laptop and after overnight I turn it on, it only shows 89% for most time and on time only 64%. I tried a lot of ways suggested online, such as turning off "always on usb", battery reset, changing settings in Intel Energy Management. But problem continues. Does anyone have any idea?

I wonder whether it possible to have a battery leakage? Because I could feel somehow warm at the bottom before I turn it on.

Hello my fellow ThinkPad friends, I know that there are already a couple of threads out there concerning high battery drain when the device is completely shut down, but none for the X380 Yoga yet. In some cases (E-Series ThinkPads), a BIOS-Update was released to solve the problem. I would kindly like to ask the Lenovo team to try and figure out whether the same can be accomplished for the X380 Yoga.  When my device is shut down, it usually drains 10-15% a day, which cannot be a regular thing. Of course, I have tried all the usual stuff: - Windows Quick Start is off - USB-power when off is off- Wake-On-LAN or USB-C is off- BIOS updated to R0SET29W 1.13 If you have any other ideas, feel free to post them. Otherwise, I would really appreciate for a BIOS update that might adress the issue. It is kind of annoying charging your device for the weekend knowing that by the next day, you will already have lost 1 to 2 hours of runtime. Best wishes,Manuel

Hi,

It appears based on the below post that Lenovo fixed this problem on X380 Yoga.  Can this be released for X1 Yoga 3rd generation?

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X380-Yoga-High-battery-drain-when-off-again/t...

I have already done the below

- Windows Quick Start is off
- USB-power when off is off
- Wake-On-LAN or USB-C is off
- BIOS updated to N25ET35W 1.21
- I have uploaded BIOS settings to default
- Disabled thunderbolt
- run battery guage reset twice

Battery drain is not as bad as the other person on the X380 but I still lose after making all the above changes 1-3% overnight.  Despite what support says I do not believe that this should be considered normal.  This has never happened on any of my other thinkpads except for my TP25 which was fixed after disabling fast start up.

Battery drain in sleep mode is excessive compared to other Windows laptops. Leaving the office with a full charge, not powering on the unit at home, I come in the next day and the battery is 89%. Same scenario over a weekend - Leave the office with 100% charge, come in Monday morning, having not used the laptop and the battery is 78%. This has nothing to do with the fancy OLED or anything - it wasn't turned on. Hope this can be addressed in a BIOS update. I really want to love this laptop but the short battery life compared to advertised specs and the excessive battery drain while sleeping leave me with mixed feelings.

I bought my Yoga 13 (type 20175) brand new in 2014.  It shipped with Windows 8, 128GB, 4GB, if I recall correctly.  I had a license for W8 Pro that I used and there was a free 8.1 upgrade that I completed not long after purchase. Upgrades over the last (almost) 3 years have been boosting it to 8GB of ram, installing a Samsung SSD 850 EVO (250GB), Windows 10 (Pro), and now a battery. Sometime in 2015, I started noticing that if I didn't use the laptop and left it off for 2 or 3 days, the battery would completely discharge to 0%.  I chalked it up to age, and could still get several hours of moderate use in a day, so it wasn't a priority.  Finally, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new battery and put it in last week. Nothing changed.  I still have the same problem. In retrospect, it may have coincided with the installation of Windows 10.  Below is a further description of the problem and things I have tried.   PROBLEM:When shutting down, the battery loses an average of 2.5% per HOUR. (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 75%)This is consistent whether I use the Windows Start menu, the power button, or a command prompt (shutdown /s /f /t 0) to turn it off.  By the way, putting it in hibernate burns at the same rate. When putting the laptop to sleep, the battery loses only about 0.75% per HOUR (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 92%).  This occurs regardless of how I put it to sleep... Hi amote,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.

Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.

Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

I have had this X1 Yoga 3rd Generation laptop since May. Sometime in July the battery will get drained at an excessive rate while the laptop is sleeping. I believe it started to happen after some software/driver/bios update around that time. Overnight it would go from 100% charged to 10% (and stops at 10% becaues hibernation kicks in). See below some images for the SleepStudy that PowerCfg.exe reports.   This seems to be the same or a very similar issue to the one reported here for the X1 Carbon that it is still unresolved:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-Gen-Battery-drain-in-sleep/m-p/... I have been installing any new updates posted on System Update hoping for this to magically get fixed by one of those updates, but so far it hasn't happened. I'm starting to switch from a happy ThinkPad user that would recommend my laptop to colleagues and friends, to one that may start telling them to stay away from them.

Hi,I recently purchased Thinkpad X1 yoga (1 Gen) machine with 16Gb Ram, 512GB SSD & WQHD IPS (Not even OLED) display with windows 10 pro 64 bit OS.My laptop battery is draining fast and only last for 4 to 5 hours with normal browsing & usage with 60-75% brightness (even reducing it to 50% doesn't give much improvement) and in Power save mode. As per Lenovo it should last for 9 to 11 hours but in reality it is no where near to it. I had also looked at similar issues that has been raised in this forum by other users as well. But I strongly feel that a top brand like Lenovo/Thinkpad doesn't cheat customers by giving false promises for the battery life of  9 to 11 hours without their internal testing, also I feel they would have not be claiming this (9 to 11 hrs) battery life by keeping their screen brightness to dark i.e. less than 50% or 25%. So i thought i could dig deeper to find out the problem. After my initial analysis using powercfg.exe command tool for sleepstudy, the report (i.e. https://ibb.co/hzob7F) shows me some a Ghost application called "Unknown [None]" which comsumes more power and I guess this is the culprit that cases the battery to drain faster. Looks like this Ghost appid takes around 60% of the power compared with all the other appid.  But not sure how to identify this Ghost appid. I have also posted my query in Microsoft forum but yet to get an reply.https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-othe... I have an XPS 9550 6th Gen running Windows 10 (Just over 1 year, out of warranty).
The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks
Andrew

When my battery is less than half full, it will only charge the battery when I turn off the lab top. If I am using the labtop, the battery drains it down to almost nothing despite being plugged in. I have the battery icon running, and it seems that it constantly alternates between "plug in" and "battery usage," but will not stay as plugged in permanently.

I checked the cords and power adapter (to see if it's truly plugged in) and tested different wall connection, but got the same result each time. Is it my battery or is it because of what I am running on the labtop, which requires a lot of power? I usually have 2 or 3 programs running at the same time, including wireless.

is there any "fix" for this problem or do I have to buy a new battery? It's only been 1 1/2 yr.

A:Battery drain

Maybe someone else knows something else to do but in general I would say you need a new battery. They do reach that point and a year and a half isn't that uncommon for a laptop battery to fail.
You probably all ready know it's the battery it's just a matter of having to purchase another one when it seems like they should run longer than they do. Luck Jazz

Your battery is dieing. How long has it been since you replaced the battery? Usually when the battery drains almost to nothing in less then five minutes, it means its life is coming to an end and is no longer able to hold a charge.

My P50 (Xeon, M2000M, FHD) exhibits some strange behavior in regards to the battery and any external monitors and only just started doing so recently. On very low usage, the computer draws about 6-7Whr from the battery. If an external monitor (via DP, TB, or HDMI) is connected and disconnected on the computer, even after I have confirmed the GPU has switched off again, the power usage is double what it was at around 13-14Whr, cutting battery life dramatically. The only way to return the computer to its orignal performance is to completely restart the system (logging off does not work either). This is on a clean install of Windows with drivers and basic programs installed only. Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions where to look next? It is quite annoying to have to restart the entire computer every time after an external monitor is used.

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my P50 (FHD, Xeon, M2000M) where after using external displays, the system will drain an extraordinary amount of power. I documented this previously with no resolution, but have additional details regarding the situation. During regular idle, I usually have around 6-7W of power drain. However, after using external displays (which I use every day), the computer can no longer idle at 6-7W, but idles at 14-16W. I have ensured that the dGPU has been deactivated and that there are no runaway processes eating up network, CPU, graphics, or disk usage. The only way to return to 6-7W power usage is to restart the system. Upon further investigation, when the high power usage issue occurs, the CPU can no longer enter C8 state (higher power savings) and instead can only C6 as the highest power saving state. Additionally, when the dGPU is active, the CPU cannot enter C8 state, so I assume that after unplugging my displays an issue is causing the system to remain unable to enter C8 state.  I would appreciate if Lenovo Staff could respond. I'm unsure if this is a firmware issue or something wrong with my system, but I've had this issue since last August and my warranty end date is approaching.

I thought perhaps I forgot to shut down completely, so, last night I made sure everything was off. Today on turn it on it was down to 85%. Thoughts?? It totally defeats the purpose of having a laptop if I'm going to be chained to the AC even when I haven't been using the laptop.

Dear Customer, First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute. Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook. 2) Update BIOS ; sp77040.exe 3)Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 10)http://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c04700771Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8)http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03325217 Post back the result..   Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

Hi, I think I'm having issues with my HP Spectre x360's battery. it barely lasts 6, most of the times dies after almost 5 hour of use. Before buying, I went through a great deal of reviews which complimented the battery life of this machine, with reviewers claming that it lasted them between 8-9 on normal usage. Also, battery drain continues even when the notebook is in sleep mode. Computer runs on a Core i7 Skylake processor, 8 GB of RAM, 256 SSD, and sports Windows 10 Home 64-bit. Any help is much appreciated, I'm very frustrated and disappointed as to be honest if this goes unresolved I might be forced to buy a new computer because I really need a machine with solid battery life to run my business. Thanks,Hani

A:Battery drain issue

You have a computer with an i7 processor and you get nearly 6 hours of battery life. That is exceptionally good, nothing to complain about. The laptop magazines use tests that do not really replicate actual field conditions. Frankly, most of them are industry shills.  I am not sure what else you could buy that would give better battery life than you are experiencing. You will find other laptops that claim an 8 or 9 hour battery life, but again you are really going to get 5 or 6 on a good day.  Turn down screen brightness, disable wi-fi and bluetooth if you are not using them. Minimize open apps and windows. Not too much else you can really do. Sleep mode still uses power. If you want less drain use hibernation instead of sleep.  if you must have all day battery runtime, buy one of the portable external laptop battery packs about the size of an external laptop hard drive. You will get an extra 4 or 5 hours out of one of those and it charges the battery back up so between your battery and one of those you will get 14 or so hours of runtime.

I am currently using my Lenovo 910 a few hours a week for about a year. The battery life has always been fantastic. Last week all of a sudden it was cut in half... now on a full charge, it only last 3 hours. Then on top of that, I noticed today while using the computer the battery would not charge very slowly and not all the way. I went through all the battery saving tips and I am still having the same issue. Was there an update that caused this or a driver I need to update? I have checked for updates through setting and everything seems ready to go. I am open to any ideas. This is so sad...

So I noticed some issues related to X1 Tablet with keyboard cover. When the connected standby is entered by closing the cover, it seems the keyboard doesn't enter standby correctly and significantly drains the battery. This can be avoided by using the power button instead. However, sometimes the power button doesn't work (it doesn't dim the tablet even being pushed multiple times), and the battery drain occasionly happens when this happens (shown as USB xHCI drain in the sleepstudy report) Another bug is related to the wireless adapter. If windows 10 is set to keep the internet connection during the standby, there will be severe battery drain, showing nohwdrips.c3 drain, or occasionally nohwdrips.c2 drain in the SystemSoC column. This can be resolved by disabling the connection during the standby, but this should be fixed anyway... All drivers and BIOS and keyboard cover FW have been updated to the latest version

I have a Dell D400 laptop, bought used about a year ago with two batteries - both of them Lithium Ion 9T119. I run the laptop on mains more than on battery. The batteries used to run for about two hours, but now they only last 30-45 minutes. Is there a way I can find out whether they have come to the end of their life and need replacing, or whether something is wrong with the laptop that is making them drain quickly. The fact that both lost their capacity at the same makes me wonder if it's the batteries or something else.

If the answer is that I need to replace them, are cheaper generic batteries (off eBay) good value, or should I stick with paying Dell's prices?

Thanks.

I'm assuming that this thread may not even receive any replies based on the times I've attempted to receive aid from any professional within the Lenovo community. I'll give it a shot anyways. Hello, I've had my Lenovo y40-70 for a little over a year (so that means my warranty is expired--do not tell me to use my warranty to fix my issue). After updating to Windows 10, I've had extremely bad battery life. It would drop from 100% to a hibernating state within the hour. Previously, I've received acceptable battery performance with maybe about 3-4 hours of usage. I've tried updating all my drivers and playing around with battery settings etc. I've uninstalled the energy manager application and am unwilling to perform a gauge reset due to the potential negative effects it may have on the my system. Anyone have any idea on how to fix this issue besides rolling back to Windows 8.1? Oh yeah, I've also tried calling Lenovo support but I was literally on the line for 2 hours listening to a song. Any help is appreciated. May have to end up getting a different laptop if this problem persists.

I have similar issues with my Y40.  Add to that a loss of notification when the battery is low, so the Y40 goes into Hibernate without warning.  Also the data displayed about the amount of charge remaining in the battery stays above 90% most the time while running on the battery, even after 90 minutes of use. Tried uninstalling and updating the Energy Manager. And have tried various adjustments to the power plans. Nothing has solved the problems of unpredictable and erratic battery life, or at least what the Y40 thinks the battery charge level is at.

Hi, I have a HP Spectre x360 PRO (i5-5300U), and I am actually very happy with it. However the battery drains very quickly when the notebook is shut down. It drains about 10% per 24 hours and after a couple of days it won't even start without hanging it to the charger.  As the problem exists since the notebook was brand new, I assume it is not related to the battery. I learned there might be a fix for this problem (Sphinx) but I didn't find the download unfortunatelly. I would appreciate any help!  Thanks!
