Memory issues, game uninstall issues and general computer retardedness

Q: Memory issues, game uninstall issues and general computer retardedness

Dell XPS 1330 running windows vista 64 bit, 4 g ram, (supposed to be) 320 g harddrive

Oooooooooookkkaaaayy.... well. This is probably all my fault really. I thought I could fix stuff.... turns out I dont actually know what I'm doing and I think I may have made things worse....To start from the begining- In general, I have an issue with the hard drive... When I remove stuff, the hard drive adds gigabytes rather than removing them. It says something like '213 gbs out of 293' and and when I started I KNOW there was way more than that and I've uninstalled all the programs I added (Long story) and cleaned out the hidden files so I know for a fact there is nothing there to take up the space. I want my memory back, grrrar. Anyway...

So I was going through my control panel and deleting bloatware, you know stuff the laptop came with that I dont really need, trying to figure out the affor mentioned problem of memory adding instead of lessening and I removed this thing called 'Microsoft Games for Windows LIVE redistributeable' thinking Oh, thats just some app trying to get me to use games I dont need, lets get rid of it. BIG mistake. After that my games (Fallout 3 and oblivion, to be specific) had issues. Fallout wouldn't start, something about 'xlive.ddl' which I figured must have something to do with the microsoft games whatsit and oblivion seemed to be fine but I decided to uninstall it (just...don't ask....) and I started getting this error- setupdll/setupdll.cpp (390) PAPP:Oblivion PVENDOR:Bethesda Softworks PGUID: 35cb6715-41f8-4f99-8881-6fc754b0 $11.0.0.28844 @windows service pack 2 (2600) BT_Other 54316.39 and when I click OK this pops up- error code: -5001 Okay so I thought, gee, I screwed that up. It's a new computer, I don't have much on here, I'll just system restore it. Okay so the manual says restart press f8 repair system 'restore dell factory image'. Did that. there was no 'repair system' option, though there was one something live device restore repair, restore factory image wasnt there. tried the other available option and it wasnt there either. So I just stuck in the windows OS disk thinking I'd do it manually, right? And it came up asking fresh install or upgrade and keep exsisting files and me, thinking, hey, thatll let me keep my stuff, clicks upgrade. it goes through, I reinstall all my 'updates' and so on and so forth and everything seems to be good. 'Microsoft games...yadda yadda' is back so I'm thinking, cool, I fixed it. No. The dvd drive wasnt showing up. I tried all the stuff the windows support page suggested, no luck. Even used their guided help. I then ran McAfee security's clean up thing and it deleted some registry files and a crap load of other stuff, and the dvd drive was back. So that was good. Tried to uninstall oblivion again, got the same error message. And now the hard drive is showing even less memory than before, when I KNOW theres nothing there to be taking up that space. What the heck did I do and does anybody have any tips or ANYTHING for how to fix it?

Everything else seems to be working fine. I don't know. Should I just try to restore again but select the 'fresh install' option?

Thanks in advance. Hope thats enough info.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ha that's precisly my problem with my laptops. It happened with a few of my games, I took the suckers off and it kept on taking space instead of deleting it. I'm in the same boat

I need help with two different issues which might be related:

1. I am unable to uninstall game Dynomite Deluxe (downloaded off the internet). When I try to do that from the Add/Remove programs, I get the following message:
"Parsing failed: unable to open file Deluxe/Install.log"

2. Whenever I turn the computer on, and attempt to open ANY programs such as Microsoft word or an Internet Explorer, any of these programs close whenever i hit on either the minimize button or the close button. The internet explorer appears to load for about two minutes (i receive the message: "Detecting your proxy settings").

I also observed that whenever i move the cursor to the task bar on the desktop during the above mentioned issue # 2, I see an hour glass and until the hour glass disappears, I can not use any programs (they stall on me, or as metnioned before, they simply close when i minimize the screen).

If anyone has any idea on how to resolve these issues, I would greatly appreciate it.

I use Microsoft Windows XP home edition Version 2002. Dell Dimension Pentium 4, CPU 3.06GHz.

Hi all

Just installed win 8 the other day, everything ran smooth and system using allmost no Memory only 1.7 to 3gigs used.

then i figured id try some of my games, started out with no problems.. 1 hour of world of tanks and then i switched over to BF3 after around 2hours it started to lag out every few second.. so closed it and started Diablo 3, the lag started instantly.

tried rebooting the pc, still lagging out..

noticed that even after i reboot it had started to pile data to my memory, now running at 11.5gigs used and instant lag in my games??.

Anyone had similar problems?

my specs are:
core i7 950 @3.07Ghz
Asus Sabertooth x58
12Gigs Kingston DDR3
AMD (asus) Radeon 6970 with 2Gigs GDDR5
120Gigs Intel X-m25 SSD for system and my favorite games(BF3, World of tanks atm)
2x500Gigs disk in raid 0 for storage/secondary games (Diablo 3, Eve online, various steam games)
FIX so far:
turned off superfetch from services.msc and prefetcher in the registry.

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

Set the value of EnablePrefetcher to 0

rebooted, lag issue is now gone.. and its back using around 1.7 to 3gigs after a reboot.. only played BF3 for around 1hour, so not sure if it holds up for longer periods game time

A:Game performance/Memory Issues

Well; BF3 is compatible with Windows 8... Windows Compatibility for Battlefield 3 version 1.3: EA. Drivers, Updates, Downloads
Could be a bug or something... Also, keep in mind that Windows 8 is still not complete = nothing is perfect!

Many issues going on with my computer... It started with my computer booting up claiming that im missing "oleaux32.dll" and nothing would work. I managed to secret-agent-spy my way through that problem and popping the DLL back into the system, but it seems as if whatever infected my computer has cauI'ed many other issues. Programs like Microsoft Word wont open without an error message, internet explorer freezes, whenever I try to reinstall internet explorer the installation freezes, I purchased an external hard drive to backup my files because of these issues and the software for the external hard drive wont install without freezing.... I ran a Chkdsk and that seemed to do some good, as my internet explorer installation carried through and "installed," but it still wont open without freezing. I tried resetting it to factory settings, deleting temporary files, etc, etc, etc, etc. And don't worry, I'm a firefox user, but I use internet explorer for things such as windows update. Other issues are that explorer.exe is constantly freezing, there seems to be a dramatic lag throughout my system, my iPod isnt being recognized by itunes (even after several uninstall/reinstallations of the software), and other small fishy issues keep coming up. Hi,1. Click the Start Menu.2. Click Run.3. Type in "mbam.exe /developer", without the quotes.4. This will start the malwarebytes scan. When done, don't select anything if it opens, just post the log that opens. Also try this... Run IE7 in the no-add on mode:To run Internet Explorer 7 without Add-ons, rightclick the IE7 icon present on your desktop and select: "Start without Add-ons" In case that option is not present there, go to start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) This will start Internet Explorer 7 in the No-Add ons mode. This means that toolbars and Browser Helper Objects will be disabled. So if your problem is solved when you use the No-Add on mode, this means that one of your Add ons is causing this.Let me know if your problem is solved in the No-Add on mode.

Today I had some kind of crash or hanging I think. Many programs, for example Messenger, Firefox, Spyware Terminator etc freaked out and I just pressed the big button and turned off the computer. I restarted the computer, and it seems quite stable now, but when I use the Internet (with Firefox, as always), it is somewhat laggy. For example, when I write in forums and such things (like when I'm writing this thread for instance), the writing repeatedly "lagg behind", i.e I write something, the letters appear normally, but suddenly they stop appearing for a (very short) time, and then all the missing ones suddenly appear. I go on writitng, it goes as usual, the lagg behind repeats. It seems like I have to stop writing for a second or so for the missing letters to suddenly appear.

The same thing also happens occasionally when I scroll. I.e it lagg behind for a very short amount of time, and then it is suddenly scrolled down accordingly. I hope you understand my explanations.

Also, for instance when I click on "Tools" or similar in Firefox, it occasionally takes some time for the computer to react. It laggs behind here as well.

I've scanned with some antispyware programs (I also scanned the memory with Avira AntiVir) and they found nothing. I don't think it is any piece of malware behind this (though please tell me if you think there are strong reasons to suspect that there is), but simply that Firefox, or perhaps the computer in general is ju... We own a 70 gig computer, all of which is showing as used! There is NO way we are using it all, we only have basic MS Office programs and a few minor programs. We dont have any games loaded, nor do we have movies or other harddrive sucking programs (or so we think LOL). When we run our virus program (shaw secure right now) it spends nearly a full 24 hours reading the System32 files, so there must be a boat load of them, but we cant find them or identify them! I ran Hijack this as a last resort before I go sit in the corner and sulk (ha). The logfile is below, I am a technical drop-out but I can follow instructions :).
Also, on a totally different topic but since I am typing already, my CD drivers dont work. I have 2 on my computer, and I have changed out both trying to get one to work (trying to get a burner working so I can get my important files off just in case I need to reformat). The drive will warm up (you can hear it rev up) then stops, then revs..stops etc etc. It has done this on all the CDs we have tried.
I thank you for any help you can give me.

After testing Windows 8 Pro OEM for several months on backup machine, finally decided to transfer it to my main machine, which has an Intel DX58SO2 extreme mobo.

To my surprise Intel site said the board was discontinued and driver support stopped at Win7 aside from a single driver for the onboard wireless LAN device to connect to other PCs.

The board was purchased on March 25 2011 for $400 odd, and was only discontinued by intel about 6 months back. The funny thing is Intel provide W8 drivers for my back up machine mobo DH65CL which cost $125.

Has anyone got any suggestions for a work around? The board has eSATA, SATA 2 & 3, USB3, 3D graphics, SLI linked graphic cards, etc.

I tried running it with just the drivers provided by W8, but had too many issues to list.

Other problems I had on the backup machine were:

1. Zone Alarm stopped WinLiveMail sending/receiving emails. The work around was to switch off ZA while checking mail, then turn it back on again. Pain in the butt.

2. On board blue tooth would work straight after installing software, but on re-boot was not able to be initialized.

3. Acronis 2012 is incompatible.

Sounds like your issues are with Intel and not M$ due to no drivers from Intel or they could not develop drivers because of M$.

Wasn't really sure where to post this, so here goes...

I just recently reformatted my computer and installed all of the updated drivers (or so I hope). I'm noticing that it isn't running as well as before the reformat, so I'm not sure what's up. All of my video card, sound, motherboard, directX, etc drivers are installed, so I don't know where I went wrong.

I currently own an Alienware Aurora 7500 and my specs are as follows:

Abit AV8 1.5 Socket 939 K8
AMD Athlon64 3800
2x 512MB DDR PC3200
160GB 8MB Cache Serial ATA HD
ATI Radeon X850XT 256MB (AGP)

For example, I could run games such as Doom3, HL2, MoH: Pacific Assault, WoW, etc... on the highest settings with awesome framerates, but now that isn't the case. It seems a bit choppy at times, and even when I'm in my desktop it can be laggy as well. I'm downloading 3DMark05 and 03 as I type this, so we'll see how that goes.

Any tips would be great. Thanks!

My 3DMark03 score was 9155 if that helps. I have no idea what that score means though.

Hello All-New to this forum but have used it many times for help. Now I have reached a point my computer is no longer functioning properly and it is so spotty it's making me crazy. History: Virus Protection expired without my knowledge. In that open state, something happened that caused massive slow downs in both accessing the internet and in opening programs locally. I downloaded and installed Avast. Then I cleaned and cleaned over 2 weeks.

I have downloaded and run: Spybot, Windows Defender, Advanced Windows Care, A-Squared [deep scan], CCleaner and finally today, ComboFix [following directions, along with Windows Recovery]. I have that resulting log. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, Internet Explorer has stopped working--it loads to the half-way point and stops. I use it exclusively for work, so it's an important program for me.

~~Thank you~~

At some point you're effectively are polishing a turd, which is to say you're wasting your time trying to fix after being seriously infected. You have one of two choices as I see it. You can first try to do a repair installation of windows or do a clean install of windows. Both scenarios require the OS disk(s). If it were my computer, I'd backup what I needed and then do a clean install since that's the only thing that would really make sure that you've gotten rid of the filth. Do remember that if you backup your data, make sure you install and update a good antivirus program PRIOR to putting your data back on just in case there is a virus infected file in those.

Hi. My computer is extremely slow, in general. If you see anything in the log that might be able to help improve it's performance, please let me know.

Now, the REAL problem that I am having right now is that, whenever I click a link on ANY search engine, I am redirected. At the bottom of the screen, on the left, I usually see a series of numbers, or "js.doubleclick.net". Another thing that pops up down there is "info-feed.com" and "search.look.com" and something about "missingpages". The series of numbers go by too fast to make them out all of the way, but one of the two that usually pops up starts with a 7 and the other usual one starts with a 2. Don't know if that helps. This happens almost every time I try to follow a link in a search engine, but not from individual sites, or from my bookmarks. For instance, if I click on a link in the youtube website, I will not be redirected. I do get a thing in the lower-left that I do not know what it means, though. It says "s.ytimg.com" and things similar to that, as well.

Oh, and I can't seem to get rid of my Norton Antivirus copy. It says it's either in use, or that it's restricted whenever I try to uninstall or delete it.

Just in case it helps, I use firefox almost all of the time. I never use chrome anymore, and I uninstalled it, I don't use any browsers except Firefox and IE, which I rarely ever use.

Hello, as you may expect from the fact that this thread exists, I'm having a bit of an issue.

You can find my system specs at the end of this post.

Background

Roughly two weeks ago, a friend and I had built this computer, together, and once it got up and running, I was very happy with it. That is, until one night, when I had finally had enough of a splash screen appearing in the upper-right corner of the screen every time I played a video (ASUS Powered by Splendid Video Enhancing Technology). I used Task Manager to end the exe that I knew to be causing it, ATKKBService.exe (Googling the file will turn up results that it's installed with Asus Keyboards, mine came with my ATI Video Card.) Immediately upon doing so (while paying the video) the video became incredibly choppy, roughly a frame every five seconds, however, there was no splash screen. When another video started, the same thing happened, and the next with the same. that's When I got the Blue Screen of Death.

Windows restarts, I re-open Winamp and before playing a video, once against have Task Manager cease ATKKBService.exe. Play a video, the same thing happens (still no Splash screen.) And roughly 15 seconds into the video, I get another Blue Screen of Death, and restart.

So, when the computer restarts, I begin to notice the incredibly poor performance. I bring up Task Manager and look at my CPU Usage: 100%! Where as before, when playing Music in WinAmp, running Rome: Total War, Trillian, Firefox and a ... Read more

hi, welcome to TSG.
I don't see anything wrong with your log, except for too many programmes running!
When was the last time you ran disk defragmenter?
you have far too many start up items, use the link below to trim them down.

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

Try trunning these tools see if they find anything and ccleaner will get rid of a lot of unnecessary files like temp files etc!
download ccleaner

http://www.ccleaner.com/
* Install CCleaner
* Launch CCleaner and look in the upper right corner and click on the "Options" button.
* Click "Advanced" and remove the check by "Only delete files in Windows temp folders older than 48 hours".
* Click OK
* Do not run CCleaner yet. You will run it later in safe mode.

go to this site and download these tools and once you get both

Set adaware to do a full system scan and deselect, "search for neglible risk

reboot and now run spybot

Spybot: Search and destroy.

Delete what spybot finds marked in red. After updating spybot hit the

Hi all,

I have an HP G60 Notebook PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have had the laptop since 2010 and have used it for general everyday use. Over the past couple of years, it has become sluggish in its overall performance and has started some strange quirks. Here are a few issues I'm wondering about:

-Sometimes when waking it from hibernate the screen won't come on even though the computer will. Even upon pressing the keyboard and mouse, the screen still won't turn on. It takes a hard shutdown and reboot before it turns back on.

- I generally keep it plugged in, but it often tells me that the battery needs replacement and regularly suggests that I use an HP Smart AC Adapter "for full performance". Anyone heard of these and does it actually improve performance?

- I maintain and run Trend Microvirus antivirus software and run Advanced System Care to clean out the system, however, it has still become slow in its boot time and regular performance. I don't store much on it, so there are really no space issues as far as the hard drive indicates, and it doesn't receive very heavy usage. I'm wondering...is there anything I can do to try to improve the performance, or is this a product of a 4-year old computer these days or rather a just a poor computer? I'd rather extend the life of it if possible over buying a new one right away.

Thanks for the help!

I am having general issues with my Vista 64 Bit. It is horribly unstable and will freeze at random times (not the whole thing, but one application will free (then task manager will stop working), the applications and explorer will start freezing one by one until I have to power reset), sometimes its at the login screen itself where it freezes the moment I put in the password and press enter.

I don't think this is a hardware issue, as it all seems to test out flawlessly (and has worked with Vista 64 Bit in the past flawlessly)

I've checked the event viewer and its full of errors (its like 100 Mb+ in total I think), some of them that stand out under applications is the VSS, which has nearly 3000 error messages.

Its now repeating the same thing in a pair over and over again:

Volume Shadow Copy Service information: The COM Server with CLSID {e579ab5f-1cc4-44b4-bed9-de0991ff0623} and name Coordinator cannot be started. [0x800401f0]

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error CoCreateInstance(CLSID_VSSCoordinator). hr = 0x800401f0.

Under Security, this one seems to go again and again:

The event logging service encountered an error while processing an incoming event published from Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing.

Under System, its these repeated over and over again:

The programspecifikke permission settings do not grant Lokal Start permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

OK, where do I begin?

At the minute my laptop is running a little inconsistently, mainly around connecting to the internet. when I try running IE I get asked if I want to connect to the internet or work offline even though I am connected to broadband and can access the internet through Firefox. Because of this I can not run Windows Update. Also, when I tried booting up this morning I got asked if I would like to install Flash 10 but when I clicke install I was told I was not connected to the internet even though I was.

The laptop had a lot of applications that I had never heard of before so I uninstalled most of these. Since doing so I think its a little faster. There was also an error on the desktop but it has gone.

I think in general there is a load of crap that needs cleaned off the laptop but I'm just not sure where to begin. I realise I should prob be providing more detailesd info but I dont know what. If you ask I'll get it to you. Attached are the scans requested.

Hi,First of all... I see you have Panda Antivirus installed. Did you purchase it? Or is it still a trial? Because a lot of malware present here should be detected and removed by Panda though. That's why I think your version of Panda is outdated. Hi,

I'm pretty much a novice so I don't really know what is going on. I have an Advent Roma 2000, when I try to start it up the initial loading screen comes up but then after about 4/5 seconds of doing nothing it loses power, cuts out and restarts pretty much immediately. If I press f12 on start up it loads as normal though and just gives me the option to start the computer up as normal. That's the first problem.

Once it does get started it sometimes will run perfectly, but other times will constantly freeze and run incredibly slowly. Usually anything I'm running will freeze for 1/2 secs every 7/8 seconds or so. This includes any programme I'm running, media player, word, ie. I have no idea what the problem is, have tried destructive format which usually seems to solve the freezing issue for a few hours but does nothing to the boot issue.

Any suggestions of what this could be or how to fix it would be great.

Thanks

A:Need help - boot issues and general running

Dosnt sound like a virus but if your computer is running slowly maybe it could be. I would do a virus scan, and if that didnt work i would reinstall windows if you still have the CD.

My computer has been generally slow for a while, but suddenly one day it was having a lot of issues. 3 blue screens over the course of two hours despite only using chrome type issues.

I set it up to check the C-drive, restarted to initiate that and went to bed.

The next day it seemed to be fine. The day after that I shut down and when I came back I noticed it was on the log-in screen as if it had restarted instead of shut down. So I logged in and shut it down again.

When I came back the next morning it was very slow to start-up, staying on the initializing screen after log in for 5-10 minutes. When it finally loaded all transparency was gone and it was extremely slow in general. When I tried to check the event viewer I got a "the snap-in is not responding" error and it wouldn't work. I checked for updates and saw there was one for my graphics card so maybe it was a graphics card issue, but the update errors. I tried checking the properties of my C-drive again but every time I right click it windows explorer errors and restarts.

I restarted again and it's very slow to open any new program. Even task manager takes a few minutes. Not sure what to do next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ive had my laptop (acer 6920g) for a while now, but now its starting to behave very stangely, when i use windows key+L to lock it it takes about 30-40 seconds to get to the login screen it just says "locking your computer". Also it does this when I put it in sleep mode or hibernate, however not if I restart from scratch. I also seem to have less processing power, my FPS in games is about 20% less and when I was playing COD 4, the sensitivity kept spiking because of the laptop. The strange part is, When i reinstalled vista it didnt go away, and even stranger is, I put a completely new hard drive as an upgrade in and installed vista home premium from the DVD's and it still had the problem, Ive never seen anything like it before, any ideas?

A:Vista Locking/General Speed Issues

I have the same laptop, they're very good - but it's still a laptop - meaning it'll do slower.

Sounds like you have some issues, a lot of them at that - just reinstall, sounds like that would make everything better.

Ram might be the issue as well, you could be lacking some.

I fail to believe that Microsoft claim to have improved security with Access. It's worse than Access 2003.

This is the situation:

I have now finished my Access project, and plan to distribute it for use on other computers, supported by the Access Runtime program (as no one else in the office has Access, and purchasing the license is expensive).

Here's the problem. I am constantly prompted by the Runtime program to confirm the action of a macro. I am told that if I want to disable it, I have to go to the Access options and disable the options. But clearly Microsoft didn't remember that Access Runtime doesn't have any options to change; there is no menu to go and change the options.

I tried issuing a certificate, as I thought that this might counteract the problem, it didn't do anything. I read on another page that these prompts can be disabled by using VB coding:
Code:
application.SetOption "Confirm Action Queries", FALSE
But that would mean that I would need this to run during the startup (AutoExec). But when I use the RunCode command in the Macro, I am told that in order to run the code, I need to disable Sand Box mode. I searched all over the web on how to do this, but they don't say how to do it for Access 2007.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Because of this issue, I am one day late on the delivery of the project.

Hi everyone. I have a few questions regarding building a desktop (something which I have not done in a LOOONG time.)

I am thinking about building a desktop to be compatible with the next generation of C2D (Wolfdale) processor as well as for the next generation HDTV viewing.

1) What kind of video card should I be looking into for high-def? (I know this is a stupid question but I just don?t know the requirement.

2) Is HD viewing as intensive as say gaming requirement? Is there a requirement as to the specific type of GPU and memory size which are required for adequate viewing of the highest HDTV resolution right now?

3) What brand (ATI or Nvidia) would you recommend for HDTV or light gaming? I am leaning towards Nvidia here but aren?t they about the same? I am curious.

I know one of the most important issues in building a desktop is the motherboard.
I am leaning towards the P35 or X38 ASUS and Gigabyte motherboards because both P35 and X38 supports the next generation of C2D. But I also want dual option for SLI-ready motherboards which are offered only for motherboards with MCP from Nvidia. So I am at a lost here.

4) Can one choose P35 or X38 motherboards and still have this dual option (parallel??) for graphic cards in PCI-16x? Or is this applicable only to motherboard with SLI only? Does ATI offer dual-option (parallel??) of two graphic cards?

5) Now, if I were to choose only SLI-ready motherboards which one would I know support the ne... Read more

Ok, im having some issues with my laptop but I have a feeling they're caused by Sims 2. I got my laptop recently and was playing Sims with no issues, then I installed custom content and it worked fine. A week later it started freezing when I was in the game or loading it.

And now other programs are slowing down. I tried defragmenting and it took 2 days, and now my computer is slower than ever. Im thinking its a virus, but should I try something else first? Maybe uninstalling the game? My computer is a Compaq Presario and I have windows 7. I have Sims 2 Double Deluxe, Apartment Life, and Open for Business. Please help!

To be honest, I don't have the slightest clue what is going on with my computer. I have an alienware laptop, running windows 10, and I run the lowest settings in all video games now. Before 2-3 weeks ago, my computer ran games like Overwatch, Skyrim, Battlefield 1, without a problem, but now I get major fps lag and input lag on my comp. I've tried speeding it up in any way I could, but to no results. I cannot even play League of Legends, which doesn't require much, without some noticeable lag.

The weird part? I ran a driver update, and a diagnostic check from Dell's support site, but no problems were found. Even though nothing changed, for a week my computer was back to normal and I could play games like Pubg. Now it has retrogressed, and I tried the same method. It only lasted for a day or so, and it retrogressed again.

I get something like input lag that makes my computer feel slower overall, and I cannot play any types of games that require more CPU power than things like League. So I am at a loss. Oh, and I checked for Malware, and there was none.

Hi there,

This is my second computer that I am having problems with. This computer seemingly has more of an issue than my other computer in that I cannot run the GMER program at all, I can't run the DDS application (it freezes my computer everytime). The only thing I can do is run the defogger.

There is some kind of worm/virus/malware that is causing my system to run inefficiently and with such poor performance as the computer just started acting up. I checked my PC usage and it was at 100% which is extrememly abnormal. Also anytime I open internet explorer, it freezes and has to be shut down and reopened, just for the same thing to happen. (Same with Chrome)

I don't know what to do since the DDS freezes everytime I try to run it, the black screen appearing to be working but never producing any logs and freezing the computer....and the GMER isn't working either. I am typing this from my other computer because the infected PC has the above mentioned browser/internet issues.

I ran antimalware bytes and it said there were no infections found, I'll include the log, also I have AVG2011 for my antivirus. It is noteworthy to say that the desktop Icons are present but do NOT work, I can't click them half the time...I'll have to use the start, computer etc. buttons to get to use the shortcuts.

Please post ANY help, it is greatly appreciated.

I purchased a Yoga 300 less than a week ago and ever since purchase it has been running laggily. It was a display model (I realise this may be part of the reason it lags); however I have had particular trouble with my trackpad. Every time I tried to scroll with two fingers, it would jerkily try to catch up, and beeped loudly. I downloaded the new Windows 10 driver to fix this issue, only now it only scrolls when it decides to, and slowly at that! Currently I can only scroll by using the cursor on the screen, or with the arrow keys (which is also laggy). I have tried to access the additional mouse options via Settings, but it comes up with an error message saying "Windows can't access the specified device, path or file".Please help!

I just purchased a used T540p (20BFS1C300) with Windows 10 Pro and a Quad core i7. It does not have the Sierra card installed and in fact it looks as iff whoever had the machine prior cut two wires and taped them off. My interest is to install WWAN connectivity in the machine but since I travel abroad frequently I'm not sure the Sierra card will work in other countries. One country I travel to frequently is the Philippines. There the primary frequencies for 3G are 850, 900 and 2100. For LTE the main frequencies are 700, 850, 1800 and 2100.  In case my WWAN card slot is buggered up, I have looked at buying a USB device such as the following: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Designed-Female-Protection-Module/dp/B01JGCSPEA/ref=pd_rhf_ee_p_img_4... Mounting the Sierra Card in their and then use WWAN with a local Sim card when needed. But I'm not sure the Sierra would work in the other countries.  Has anyone determined if it works particularly in Asian countries with at least 3G but preferably 4G LTE? Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks for any and all advice. I am new to Lenovo Thinkpads. Unwired17

I recently updated my nvidia drivers and ran some scans using Eusing Free Registry Cleaner and CCleaner. Did several defrags and a disk cleanup.

Now after about five years of very little issues of substance with my Inspiron 8600 I started getting some very heavy pixelation and freezing sometimes followed by a crash. I'm hoping this could be a issue I can resolve via software because I don't know if I have the budget to replace my video card or whatever else might be the issue. A friend of mine thought it might have been overheating, but it's run for longer spans of time in worse situations than what it's been through the past few days.

I'll try to give whatever information I can, sorry if this wasn't enough.

A:Having issues after updating my video drivers and doing some general cleanups

The registry cleaner no doubt caused damage to your system. Restoire the backup, uninstall it, and never use one again.

Ccleaner is just as bad. If you used its registry cleaner, restore the backup. Its a bit like asking a butcher to do brain surgery.
Try testing memory.

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Roadkil's RAM Test
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)
Memtest86

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista, tap F8 on boot and choose the memory diagnostic, or if you can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

mdsched.exe

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

My Dell laptop (Inspiron 5559) have become increasingly less responsive over the recent months (purchased nine months ago). It began with two separate error messages popping up on the screen at an increasing rate, regarding the battery status:
1. "The system cannot communicate with your battery" - The message popped up frequently (on a daily basis almost) but I could simply tilt the screen and it would go away. No actual problems with the battery other than the error message.
2. "Your battery does no longer operate and needs to be replaced" - Battery stopped functioning and could not be charged. This magically repaired itself after every restart, but kept happening on a weekly basis. I contacted support and ran some tests, but all the results said that the battery was "in excellent condition", when it was clearly not.
This problems with the battery became less frequent after running the tests with the Dell support team, but in the weeks that followed my laptop became increasingly less responsive, and many programs (Google Chrome in particular) keeps freezing and falling in and out of unresponsiveness throughout every use. The laptop also takes longer to start up than it should. I don't download anything and I don't visit any harmful webpages, so I don't understand why my laptop have become so slow and unstable in less than nine months. Does anyone know what I can or should do to repair these problems on my own, or whether I have to se... Read more

Hi guys, I am opening this post because I think that it could be useful to everyone who would like to solve several issues related to this laptop. I think that it is a really good notebook but it needs a lot of work to have it working in a proper way.So first of all I am posting here a link of a doc in which I am monitoring several issues I encountered and how I solved them. I know that it is not very easy to read it because its style is personal notes-like but I am sharing it anyone...probably someone can find the information it needs.Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 80JH monitoring doc

In this second post I am sharing the configuration to use with Notebook Fan Control software (probably some of you already know about this software if you hate the noise which fans of this laptop are able to do!). I added of course some considerations I noticed in preparing this config. Here we are... Yoga 3 1470 80JH using Windows 10 and NBFC 1.4.2.I appreciated a lot the work done by Mr. Cheeze but I found it incomplete, so I basically investigated the issue a bit more.I did not open the notebook but I found online that it is equipped with 2 fans. So, first step was adding the 2nd fan. Then I started to investigate if we can effectively control the fans and the answer is NO, but we can play a bit to force them to have a behavior. My target was only one: REDUCE the FANS NOISE and consequently their speed, because I think that this laptop is almost able to work in fanless mode (and believe me I stress it a lot, especially in terms of multitasking). Before showing my personal code to be used in NBFC I am giving you some information I retrieved by the Read&Write software (32bit version works well).?When Fans starts HEX values show up at position 6 and 254. These are the 2 actual speed values of the fans.?The target values (so where you have to write the desired fans speed) are in position 86 and 176. I am not totally sure if they are the effective position to write but they seem the only position which considerably vary according to the change of... Read more

Okay, About three months ago, I got hacked HARD...permissions were changed, administrator rights were removed from my administrator accounts, etc. i was flabbergasted. THe iactually didn't bother me though until I ran a MBAM scan and found 133 viruses and spyware instances on my drive (NOT including tracking cookies!). I cleaned and recleaned, using MBAM, SuperantiSpyware, Avira, running each one in safe mode first, then loading into my normal account and running them, and finally erasing my user account and creating a new one. But even after the new user account was created with Administrator privileges, I still routinely received virus and Malware threat warnign flags from MBAM and Avira. Eventually, Avira and MBAM were disabled and Avira was "deleted" (Windows will not uninstall because the setup.exe file has been 'Changed" and won't reinstall it because I don't have "Administrator privileges" on my Administrator accounts!) even though at startup I receive an error message saying that Avira has been corrupted. The most telling issue is that antivirus and spyware/Malware scans come up clean on Safe mode scans, but using my normal account, the machine reboots. Using Superantispyware I notice that it's always during the memory test that this occurs (and in Safe Mode, it passes through this section with no issue). None of my antivirus programs will download updates, even ones I start manually, and although I have no problem acc... Read more

Hi,

This is a bit of a last resort. I'm running Windows XP SP3 on a fairly old computer from around 2006 (3.2ghz, upgraded to 4gb RAM etc.) I use a Belkin 802.11g wireless card, connecting to a Linksys WRT54G wireless router.

A few months ago, I started having odd connection issues. Nothing new was installed/uninstalled. Previously, the last thing uninstalled was a Steam version of M&Mark Messiah, but that was about a week previous. What would happen is that whilst browsing the internet (Chrome) the browser would not connect, saying 'Resolving Host'. When this was happening, no other browser would work (they'd just be 'loading'). Other programs would work (so, League of Legends would work except for the 'browser' bits such as news, Google Talk would work). I would have full signal, packets being sent, and I could always connect to the router config utility. I looked around, read a load of stuff about DNS problems, tried the fixes, with no luck. Eventually I stumbled across someone who recommended I turn off UPnP function of my router. I did so, and things miraculously worked. No problems at all.

Until last week. Despite the UPnP function being off, and despite not changing anything (to my knowledge) my internet has gone crazy again. It's worse than before. Posting this was an exercise in frustration - more 'resolving host' problems. Interestingly, the problem has spread to other programs - AdAware can't conne... Read more

I am having the same problem except i am using a wired connection directly into my router. Nothing is working including my Symantec Protection, iTunes, etc. I can load pages that are on my local network including access to my server, my router config, just outside of that it doesn't work. I even tried pointing my DNS server to those of my ISP, and still no luck. The thing that puzzles me is that I am able to ping websites and it works perfectly. Please help!

I have been installing and uninstalling a few programs lately.(issues with AV and firewall compatibility)Today I went to uninstall a firewall through my Windows xp pro add/remove,
and I noticed a number programs on my computer were no longer there. I checked, and all of the programs are working.
After I uninstalled,I used the program "CCleaner"to check for anything leftover in the registry. All of the programs that went missing from the add/remove are now showing as,
uninstaller reference issues. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Please don't say,"system restore" because thats another problem I'm having. S.R. doesn't seem to work anymore.(It last worked Sept.25,when I had to disable it to get rid of a trojan)Any ideas on the S.R. issue would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance for any and all help

So I'v tried contacting Firaxis with my problem, but they can't seem to figure it out. I installed Civilization 4, and then tried to install the expansion pack, but it encountered a "catastrophic error", and wouldnt continue.

Now, when I try and uninstall Civilization 4, I run into an error that tells me to contact the vendor (which I have). The error is as follows:

"Error Code (-5009 : 0x80029c4a)
Error Info: >Kernel\CABfile.cpp (384) >SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (15260
PGUID: CFBCE791 - 2D53 - 4FCE - 53FB - D6E01F4112E8"

I'v tried renaming the InstallShield Information folder, but it continues to give me error messages during the uninstall start-up. Iv also ran multiple CleanUps and emptied the Temp folder with no success.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
