Lenovo Y40-70 Graphics Problems

Q: Lenovo Y40-70 Graphics Problems

I bought my Lenovo Y40 last year mainly to run photoshop and illustrator. Knowing its a gaming laptop I play games here and there. I never really noticed until recently but my laptop can only barely run games like Beam NG or battlefield on the absolute minimum settings and the games still barely run smoothly. This was advertised as a gaming laptop so I would assume that the laptop should be able to run these games smoothly even on the lowest settings. It has 16gb of ram and uses the AMD Radeon R9 M275 Any help would be appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, i'm having a problem with a B50-30 aio that wont recognize the Nvidia 840A in programs such as AutoCAD 2017. The integrated intel GPU cant be disabled through the BIOS in that particular model, so no luck with that method. Both cards are detected correctly in the device manager. I already tried disabling the igpu in the device manager.Setting the particular program to default to the Nvidia GPU in the nvidia control panel.Setting the 840A as global GPU with all programs.Uninstalling and reinstalling both the igpu and the nvidia gpu drivers, both the factory ones for Win10 and the latest ones. I'm running out of ideas over here, the nvidia gpu used to run fine and be detected with AutoCAD 2015 and windows 7, but i had to wipe the install and upgrade to Win10 due to other problems introduced when the previous user downgraded the computer to windows 7. I was thinking maybe a ACPI driver is missing but no luck finding something like that for that particular machine. No such thing as nvidia optimus either in the drivers. Anyone might have an idea what could be missing? I haven't tried downgrading to AutoCAD 2015 but it would seem weird for 2015 to detect the gpu and not 2017.

I have some problems with the Lenovo software. Lenovo Account Portal does not launch Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings. Also, Lenovo Solution Center is missing from the Start Menu. The second problem is that some tiles are blank in Start Menu. Seemingly it's the apps that aren't Metro. I'm not sure when the problem started, but I think it was like that since I got the PC. If I right click the apps, the only option will be "Pin to Start", and with some apps: Share and Rate. Here's a picture of the problem:I did already try:Restarting the PC.Doing scannow, DISM, and scannow again.Fixing Registry errors with CCleaner.Updating BIOS and drivers. What can I do to fix the problem?

hI guys,  does anyone know if I can upgrade my graphics card for game for this Z50?I'm not sure if the card is onboard, if it is, I think probably it won't be possib;e, right?

A:Lenovo Z50-75 GRAPHICS UPGRADE

Hi andredjlima,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Similar to most laptops, Z50-75 has the graphics chip AMD R6-M255DX for A10/A8 are soldered on board thus cannot be upgraded further.

So, yes it won't be possible without replacing the entire board itself as shown here on a sample motherboard.
Maybe playing at low setting would help at playability among games.

Hope this help answer your query.

I have a lenovo g50 70 with an i3 processor and i have a question: how can i find if i have the amd graphic card in my laptop? Is nowhere to be seen in device manager. I only have the intel graphics. On specs it says that i have a dexicated graphic. But after installing the drivers, nothing came out. I did install drivers in proper order. Is there any way to see if i have that graphics(amd)? Where is located on motherboard? Or do i have a slot for dedicated graphic card on the motherboard?

Hi, here's a question for people who have a lenovo y40-70 or anybody at lenovo.I bought a lenovo y40-70 refurbished on amazon about a month ago, the first thing I did when it arrived was checking the specs, and something that catched my atention was the dedicated graphics card R9 M275X, it says that have DDR3 memory instead of GDDR5.This really bothers me becouse it cuts the performance of the GPU by half, and I checked every single techpage finding info about this GPU and all says that the graphics memory type is GDDR5.So my question for other y40-70 owners is: does your laptop have the same problem? and for lenovo's support is: Is there something to do about it?.

I currently have the AMD catalyst drivers directly from the Lenovo y40 support page, but the problem is those drivers are pretty old. I was just wondering what other drivers you guys with radeon r9 m200 series use. Im looking for the newest drivers that are also stable. My currents catalyst control center is getting really old and isn't optimised for new titles.  PS If you have any tips for lengthening battery life on the y40 feel free to let me know.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

I have a Lenovo H50-55 (AMD) dekstop with a built into the motherboard graphics card.  I want to install a higher end graphics card into the PCI express slot.  I have upgraded the power supply to a 500 watt PSU and added 8GB of ram for a total of 16.  I have two graphics cards that I already have and I have tried:  a Galaxy Nvidia GeForce 210 1GB DDR2 card; and a Zotac 9400GT 1 GB 128 BIT DDR2 card.  In both cases after I install the card there is no video either through the unit's built-in ports or the new card's ports.  I have tried resetting the BIOS to AGD or PEG (the only available settings besides auto) with no result.  I do not see an option to bypass the motherboard's video ports in the setup.  Any advice on how to get a new video card working would be appreciated.  The two cards I am using are older so is it that I need a newer card?  Thank you

Hi, I'm having extremely bad problems. I bought this laptop especially for the dedicated GPU and I play games such as Sims 3, Sims 4 and GTA V and even though they're set to "high performance" in AMD, it still uses the integrated GPU. Apparently it has something to do with OpenGL. If they won't let the GPU be used with OpenGL, then what's the point in there being the GPU? A lot of games use OpenGL..... Is there a way to force my computer to use the dedicated GPU? There's no fixed option in BIOS. Only UMA or Switchable. I've tried UMA and that disables the dedicated GPU completely. It disappears from device manager. Thanks.

The title pretty much says it all. I am attempting to install an AMD 6450. I turn on the computer and get no video output. It's clear it's not not loading Windows behind the scenes because the power will turn off with a quick push of the power button (as opposed to holding it down). I've already flashed the bios to make sure it's up to date. Any idea how to get the card to work?

I bought my Yoga 510 14" about 2-3 months ago, and noticed that the graphics card in it doesn't seem to work. Specs: i5 6200U, AMD Radeon R5 M430 2GB DDR3, 8GB RAM I have the latest drivers installed, and in my device manager it says the card is detected. However, when I go to test it it doesn't seem to show up. For example, on skyrim, before you start the game you can select your graphics device in a drop down menu, but the menu only says "Intel HD 520" for me. I also searched for AMD Catalyst on my laptop and couldn't find a trace of it. It is still under warranty and I was wondering if I should send it back or if the problem can be solved. Thanks!

Hello dear community, recently I bought myself a Lenovo ideapad 305. Mainly for office purposes, however the fact that it has a Nvidia 820m as a secondary graphics card is a nice feature, since I like to play games from time to time. Since my games aren't the most demanding either, they work just fine as long as I use the 820m on it. They do lag considerably using the Intel Graphics Card. So, the thing is, I am considering whether to upgrade to Windows 10, and one central question is: Will the switchable graphics work? You know, my parents taught me to "ALWAYS have the latest drivers on your computer!" so earlier today I went ahead and downloaded the latest driver for the 820m from the nvidia website. Unfortunately, my parents hadn't told me that that's not how it works with hybrid graphic pcs. Apparently if you have two graphics card in one pc only the drivers from the manufacturer will work. That explains why my game suddenly started lagging after the driver update (even THOUGH I had it set to use the nvidia card on the nvidia control panel). I went back to the original driver via the onekey recovery partition now, and it works fine just like before. HOWEVER that means I would need a driver directly from Lenovo that makes this switchable thing work under Windows 10. Is there? If so, does it work? Any experiences? I need to decide this rather quickly, what with work and also the free upgrade period ending rather soon. Thanks a lot in advance!Gre... Read more

Hello, I've been having a problem where my graphics card is disabled for my computer and I don't know why. I've tried downloading different/older drivers, I've tried disabling and then reenabling the graphics card, I've looked around the internet and nobody seems to have the a solution for this problem. When I go to the device management menu on my computer it says that the device (the graphics card) is completely updated, enabled, and working properly. But when I go on the Crimson menu for AMD, it tells me that it is disabled. Whenever I try to play a video game on my computer and I go to the graphics options menu, the video game tells me that it is using the integrated graphics instead of the AMD graphics and I have no option to switch. I'm attaching several screen shots to this post so that you can better see my point. Is there any way this could be fixed without me having to send my computer back to lenovo? I am running Windows 10. Thank you very much for your time.  These are the pictures

I thought I'd share my experience with a M57 6072 because I've been lurking inside the threads when I first purchased it to read if people have upgraded various components. I bought the M57 for AUD40. It came with E4500 2.2Ghz CPU , 4GB RAM and 160GB HDD and the DVI adapter- the standard I presume. I wanted a cheap computer to run windows and some old RTS games eg Warcraft, Age of Empires etc. The Lenovo attracted me because it was small format and very well built, but i expected not as easy to upgrade as a typical tower or non business machine, but hey it was only $40 and very cheap. My experiences in brief1. Wanted to connect it to my 22" monitor via DVI - at first nothing but when I realised I hadnt set my monitor right, I was able to view via DVI - which allowed Windows to detect the right settings2. I updated the BIOS via the burning of the iso image to CD method ie allowing the computer to boot via DVD ROM. I wanted to update the BIOS because i wanted to upgrade the CPU3. I took from a friend an unused E8500 3.16GHz dual core. Not seeing anyone put one of these in a M57, I took the plunge and removed the old E4500 and installed the E8500 - it worked. Checked the BIOS and it detected the E85004. Hello everyone,This is my first time posting on this community, and I have a rather important question. I'm pretty new to the whole electronical (hardware) side of customizing PCs. I've done a few basic stuff like replacing ram sticks, fans e.c.t. Whilst only being new to this stuff, I really have this passion to learn more about the hardware side of a computer system. Long story short, I'd like to upgrade my graphics card, but I really don't know how to choose one that will work for sure.I've opened my PC up, located the graphics card and had a little look/play around just to familiarize myself with the component, so I could get a better understanding of how to choose a new graphics card, but I'm still a little stumped. Here are some key specs of my Lenovo PC. Power supply: 240 WattsCurrent graphics card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 720Intel core I7 My question is how do I choose what graphics supply I can buy (Preferably in the Nvidia Geforce selection )? And how do you actually determine what graphics card would work for your PC? Does it involve something to do with PCIE slots (Can someone also explain what these are, and the difference between 3.0 and 2.0, and if you can use a 3.0 PCIE on a 2.0 slot)?  If someone can answer these questions in an informative manner I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks allot.

A:Lenovo H515 and 505, graphics card

Hi DonMaidment,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You will need to look on two things

- Compatible Graphics
Here are some compatible graphics adapter from the Lenovo H515 Maintenance Manual
If you are going to purchase a Video card that's not on this list, I suggest you do a test First before purchasing it as I'm not too sure if other Graphics model will work.

- Power Supply
Your Power Supply must match the Videocard Requirement,
or else you will need to upgrade the power supply as well.

Thank you

Unfortunately there is no way to add a dedicated graphics card to your All in One PC to replace/supplement the stock AMD Radeon HD 8330 that is built on to the motherboard, because there are no PCI slots in the system. Lenovo C355/C455 All-In-One Computer Hardware Maintenance Manual (Machine Types: 10138/F0A2 [C355], 10139/F0A3 [C455])https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/desktop_pub/lenovo_c355-455_hmm_20130807.pdf Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,

Why is this showing me previous version graphics card? Will it get restrored to default if i reset my Windows 10?

The title pretty much says it all. I am attempting to install an AMD 6450. I turn on the computer and get no video output. It's clear it's not not loading Windows behind the scenes because the power will turn off with a quick push of the power button (as opposed to holding it down). I've already flashed the bios to make sure it's up to date. Any idea how to get the card to work?

Hello. My girlfriend has a Lenovo y50 Touch with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860m GPU. It has perfomed well, however when I recently installed AutoCAD 2015 on it, I found out that it is actually using the Intel Integrated graphics card instead.

Rant:This is very disappointing because I advised her to purchase this one because of the dedicated graphics, and if it is not even going to use it then she could have saved a lot of money buying one without it.

Anyways, I have tried a few things to fix it, namely going to the Nvidia Control Panel and chaning the prefered graphics card to to the Nvidia. But I right-click on autocad and go to "Run with Graphics Processor >" it still shows the intel as the default, and even when I chose nvidia, the intel is still shown as the graphics processor from the autocad setting.

In short, I need help enabling the dedicated nvidia graphics card and using that insetad of the intel integrated. Any help is much appreciated! Please let me know what additional information would be needed.

See this AutoCad knowledgebase. Hopefully you can disable the intel card in BIOS as the article states.

Edit: This could lead to trouble I will post the link shortly. Here it is.
