Lenovo Y40-70 Graphics Problems

Q: Lenovo Y40-70 Graphics Problems

I bought my Lenovo Y40 last year mainly to run photoshop and illustrator. Knowing its a gaming laptop I play games here and there. I never really noticed until recently but my laptop can only barely run games like Beam NG or battlefield on the absolute minimum settings and the games still barely run smoothly. This was advertised as a gaming laptop so I would assume that the laptop should be able to run these games smoothly even on the lowest settings. It has 16gb of ram and uses the AMD Radeon R9 M275 Any help would be appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have had my b50 all in one i5 4460T computer for a while and have recently purchased 'project cars', it runs well on the intel intergrated graphics but only on low settings. I looked at the lenovo website at the b50 all in one page (product is not avaliable to buy now) and saw that you used to be able to purchase it with extra graphics, gforce gt840a i think. I was just wondering if i could open my pc and insert a graphics card or anything else, as it seems you could buy one with one in. Thanks.

I currently have the AMD catalyst drivers directly from the Lenovo y40 support page, but the problem is those drivers are pretty old. I was just wondering what other drivers you guys with radeon r9 m200 series use. Im looking for the newest drivers that are also stable. My currents catalyst control center is getting really old and isn't optimised for new titles.  PS If you have any tips for lengthening battery life on the y40 feel free to let me know.

Hi, here's a question for people who have a lenovo y40-70 or anybody at lenovo.I bought a lenovo y40-70 refurbished on amazon about a month ago, the first thing I did when it arrived was checking the specs, and something that catched my atention was the dedicated graphics card R9 M275X, it says that have DDR3 memory instead of GDDR5.This really bothers me becouse it cuts the performance of the GPU by half, and I checked every single techpage finding info about this GPU and all says that the graphics memory type is GDDR5.So my question for other y40-70 owners is: does your laptop have the same problem? and for lenovo's support is: Is there something to do about it?.

I have a lenovo g50 70 with an i3 processor and i have a question: how can i find if i have the amd graphic card in my laptop? Is nowhere to be seen in device manager. I only have the intel graphics. On specs it says that i have a dexicated graphic. But after installing the drivers, nothing came out. I did install drivers in proper order. Is there any way to see if i have that graphics(amd)? Where is located on motherboard? Or do i have a slot for dedicated graphic card on the motherboard?

Hi DonMaidment,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You will need to look on two things

- Compatible Graphics
Here are some compatible graphics adapter from the Lenovo H515 Maintenance Manual
If you are going to purchase a Video card that's not on this list, I suggest you do a test First before purchasing it as I'm not too sure if other Graphics model will work.

- Power Supply
Your Power Supply must match the Videocard Requirement,
or else you will need to upgrade the power supply as well.

Hello. My girlfriend has a Lenovo y50 Touch with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860m GPU. It has perfomed well, however when I recently installed AutoCAD 2015 on it, I found out that it is actually using the Intel Integrated graphics card instead.

Rant:This is very disappointing because I advised her to purchase this one because of the dedicated graphics, and if it is not even going to use it then she could have saved a lot of money buying one without it.

Anyways, I have tried a few things to fix it, namely going to the Nvidia Control Panel and chaning the prefered graphics card to to the Nvidia. But I right-click on autocad and go to "Run with Graphics Processor >" it still shows the intel as the default, and even when I chose nvidia, the intel is still shown as the graphics processor from the autocad setting.

In short, I need help enabling the dedicated nvidia graphics card and using that insetad of the intel integrated. Any help is much appreciated! Please let me know what additional information would be needed.

A:Lenovo y50 Touch not using Dedicated Graphics. HELP!

See this AutoCad knowledgebase. Hopefully you can disable the intel card in BIOS as the article states.

Hello, I've been having a problem where my graphics card is disabled for my computer and I don't know why. I've tried downloading different/older drivers, I've tried disabling and then reenabling the graphics card, I've looked around the internet and nobody seems to have the a solution for this problem. When I go to the device management menu on my computer it says that the device (the graphics card) is completely updated, enabled, and working properly. But when I go on the Crimson menu for AMD, it tells me that it is disabled. Whenever I try to play a video game on my computer and I go to the graphics options menu, the video game tells me that it is using the integrated graphics instead of the AMD graphics and I have no option to switch. I'm attaching several screen shots to this post so that you can better see my point. Is there any way this could be fixed without me having to send my computer back to lenovo? I am running Windows 10. Thank you very much for your time.  These are the pictures

Hello everyone,This is my first time posting on this community, and I have a rather important question. I'm pretty new to the whole electronical (hardware) side of customizing PCs. I've done a few basic stuff like replacing ram sticks, fans e.c.t. Whilst only being new to this stuff, I really have this passion to learn more about the hardware side of a computer system. Long story short, I'd like to upgrade my graphics card, but I really don't know how to choose one that will work for sure.I've opened my PC up, located the graphics card and had a little look/play around just to familiarize myself with the component, so I could get a better understanding of how to choose a new graphics card, but I'm still a little stumped. Here are some key specs of my Lenovo PC. Power supply: 240 WattsCurrent graphics card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 720Intel core I7 My question is how do I choose what graphics supply I can buy (Preferably in the Nvidia Geforce selection )? And how do you actually determine what graphics card would work for your PC? Does it involve something to do with PCIE slots (Can someone also explain what these are, and the difference between 3.0 and 2.0, and if you can use a 3.0 PCIE on a 2.0 slot)?  If someone can answer these questions in an informative manner I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks allot.

Hello dear community, recently I bought myself a Lenovo ideapad 305. Mainly for office purposes, however the fact that it has a Nvidia 820m as a secondary graphics card is a nice feature, since I like to play games from time to time. Since my games aren't the most demanding either, they work just fine as long as I use the 820m on it. They do lag considerably using the Intel Graphics Card. So, the thing is, I am considering whether to upgrade to Windows 10, and one central question is: Will the switchable graphics work? You know, my parents taught me to "ALWAYS have the latest drivers on your computer!" so earlier today I went ahead and downloaded the latest driver for the 820m from the nvidia website. Unfortunately, my parents hadn't told me that that's not how it works with hybrid graphic pcs. Apparently if you have two graphics card in one pc only the drivers from the manufacturer will work. That explains why my game suddenly started lagging after the driver update (even THOUGH I had it set to use the nvidia card on the nvidia control panel). I went back to the original driver via the onekey recovery partition now, and it works fine just like before. HOWEVER that means I would need a driver directly from Lenovo that makes this switchable thing work under Windows 10. Is there? If so, does it work? Any experiences? I need to decide this rather quickly, what with work and also the free upgrade period ending rather soon. Thanks a lot in advance!Gre... Read more

Good day and welcome to the community.

There is no way to upgrade the graphics subsystem on your machine. The Intel HD 520 is integrated in the chipset package. Though some laptops have discrete graphics chips, almost none were socketed. They're soldered, instead.

Reverting back to an older driver fixes the problem.I have noticed that the most up-to-date driver available on the product support web-page is from 7/13/15. Is this because newer drivers are incompatible with this laptop? If so, when is Lenovo planning on getting a newer driver to work?I purchased this laptop to play games, and it appears as though I will soon be unable to play new games because this laptop cannot support newer drivers. Thanks, Dan

CCC Switchable Graphics

On computers with an Intel power-saving GPU and an ATI high-performance GPU, Dynamic Mode switchable graphics is configured using the Catalyst Control Center software.

To maximize the energy efficiency or if you typically use programs that have lower graphical requirements (such as word processing or spreadsheet programs), you do not need to make any changes to the settings in the Catalyst Control Center software. The computer uses the power-saving GPU by default for most applications. You can still run high-performance programs, videos, and games in default mode but you are likely to notice lower frame rates, dropped frames, and choppy animations and transitions.
Applications that have higher graphical requirements (such as 3D video games), work better using the high-performance GPU. Graphics intensive software, videos, and games run at their optimum settings using the high-performance GPU.
Using the high-performance GPU on battery power will shorten the battery's effective usage time. The high-performance GPU generates a noticeable amount of heat while running graphics intensive software and, to keep the computer from overheating, the fan noise increases with increased fan use.

To change the default switchable graphics settings in the Catalyst Control Center software, follow the steps below.

Click Start , type CCC in the Search field, and then select CCC from the search results list.

I just bought a refurbished lenovo y50 touch with the 860m. I cant even run csgo or gmod without getting 5-10 fps. No games work. Ive looked up multiple solution such as updateing bios, installing old drivers, chaning setting through nvidia control panel and the such. Does any1 have the solution to this or is this laptop a lost cause? If yes, what are refund policies? Thanks

Greetings, I have currently installd a fresh version of windows 7 professional onto a lenovo aio A700. After doing all the updates for the operating system as well as reinstalling the drivers using the disk that came with the pc. I have since done updates to those drivers. Basically I have installed and reinstalled them a few times now trying to resolve the issue that the PC continues to freeze when adjusting any graphic settings as well as just having the pc promt me for the admin password. The freeze will take place when trying to change background both in aero and basic themes. The changes ultimately process but the PC is unresponsive for an average of 5minutes while it resolves itself.  The drivers used were on the driver disk and also those provided on the lenovo site and on the intel site as of today 12/14/16 Aside from that issue the PC is perfect in how the rest of it works. If any one has any solutions thank you!

I would recommend going into control panel, hunt down reliability history, and see if graphics is crashing. Did you install Lenovo System Update?

Hi there,

I have a Lenovo 3000 c100 notebook and have recently installed windows 7 however I don't think my video controller is working at all. I am trying to run football manager 2013 and when xp was on it originally it ran it without a problem however having installed windows 7 it wont even launch.

I have checked in device manager and two items, vga flash memory and vga video controller are both not available. I have tried updating them through device manager but it doesn't find any drivers.

I don't have any other games to test it on so have no way of checking to see if the video card works.

Could someone please help me solve this problem

A:Please help..Lenovo laptop graphics problem windows 7

Please can someone help, I,m sure it is a case of the video controller not working but how do I get it working, is the graphics card, just an onboard vga, compatable with windows 7? if so how do I get the drivers??
