Wifi: OK... RJ45: LAN, but no Internet

Q: Wifi: OK... RJ45: LAN, but no Internet

I have a HP notebook running Windows 7 Pro that can access network shares and the Internet without issue over Wifi.

However, when I connect to the same network over wired ethernet (Wifi disabled), it can still access network shares, but no Internet.

Any ideas what might be the cause (other hardwired PCs can access both network shares and Internet normally) ?

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have never run into this before.

I have a dsl modem/gateway (actiontec) which i use to connect to the internet

when I connected a Linksys WRT54G v.4 router to my laptop thru RJ45, WITH wifi disabled on the router, I lose connectivity to the internet on the wifi connection.

I'm used to XP with independent connectoids. Looking at the properties on each connection, they appear to be correct.

Has anyone run into this on Vista?

I thought surely by disco'g the wifi on the Linksys Router it should just be a standard wired connection.

both routers are setup for DHCP. Is that what's confusing Vista?

weird. appreciate any help. I am so out of troubleshooting ideas.

can you just run through your post again, you seem to be saying that you have disabled your wireless on your router and you lose connection on the wireless connection on your computer.

Hi I have a network problem

My network consists of four machines on a coaxial network using a windowx xp machine as the gateway the coax is connected to a NIC with BNC connector.

I also have a NETGear router/modem/wireless box which i currently have connected to the same pc but via rj45 to a second NIC with RJ45 socket

I have set up this second connection to share the internet connection.

The problem is, access to the internet is dipping in and out. There is no problem with the line as my simple usb modem works ok.

1. Could some one please explain what the following should be set to
FOR COAX NIC(ACTING AS SERVER) IP should be? Gateway should be? DNS shoudl be?
FOR RJ45 NIC(WITH NETGEAR ATTACHED)IP should be? Gateway should be? DNS shoudl be?

FOR ONE OF THE COAX CLIENTS IP should be? Gateway should be? DNS shoudl be?
and/or

2. Can i just get a BNC to RJ45 converted and just plug in the Coax with the conerteds on straight in the netgear , negating the need for the A Gateway pc and setting the Netgear as the gateway.

With this way my concern is whether i can just put the converted on the coax then treat is as is were a cat 5 (obvioulsly i understand i will only get 10Mb thourgh it) i.e. pluggin straight into the net gear

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I suggest you use a converter: http://www.lanshack.com/10BaseT-to-...UserID=7962661&SessionID=Zs13VmXCHzSrDdOrAERN

Plug that into a port on your switch or router and connect the coax network to the 10Base2 connection.

Hi

Bit of a problem here and wanted to see if anyone could tell me if the following is possible and will work.
I have a wgt624v3 Netgear 108 Mbps wireless firewall router and wish to connect it to the internet, and then use the wireless signal to connect the other pc's to the net, my problem is that I have tried to use a RJ11 and connect it to the back of the router in the RJ45 port that is marked internet, but it won't pick up the internet connection, I have searched other sites that say it is possible for a RJ11 to work in a RJ45 port but it's not working for me, so I found a RJ11 to RJ45 adapter and was hoping that if i use this and convert the RJ11 cable connection to the RJ45 connector and then plug this into the back of the router this would give me an internet connection, would this work?

Thanks for the help

A:RJ11 to RJ45 adapter to connect wgt624v3 to the internet

Sounds to me like you might be trying to teach a router to function as an ADSL modem. That won't work

What's the other end of the RJ11 phone cable plugged into? That Netgear device is probably not an ADSL modem, hence the "ethernet" (RJ45) plug on its back, as opposed to a phone (RJ11) jack. It would need an ADSL modem upstream of it do actually handle the phone stuff.

Then again, I've never owned one of those devices and I could be dead wrong.

Yes.  Sounds like you just need a USB Ethernet adapter.  There are many to choose from and they are sold in most stores that carry network interface cards (e.g.  dell.com, walmart, etc.).

Hi,

A:Internet with USB Female to Male Ethernet RJ45 Connector Adapter

Its depend your airtel dongle speed, but I will suggest if you plug in directly to USB port, because LAN port will be another barrier which also affecting your airtel dongle speed, it not good idea, because if your LAN port having some issue it will
wasting your time to do TS.
I think this device very useful if you using it to connect a USB ADSL modem to a router with an RJ45 socket, not for the female USB. Yes, it can add more USB port option in your PC, but I prefer to use other USB port extension with many usb port
rather than this device
But that's my point of view, its still depend on you

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

A:Internet access via WIFI and share WIFI via second router

Due to the age of XP this is not the best option for what you want to do

Either windows 7 or 8.1 have access to Internet connection sharing (ICS) built in

To use ICS you need at least two connections to the local LAN, these can be any mix of wifi or Ethernet.

As you have a laptop you likely already have a system to use for this

There is a tutorial explaining the basics ... and more on this site

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

I prefer not to use them. PCI network cards are the best. USB is a problematic interface, you'll see lots of posts here dealing with USB issues. Plus USB adds some CPU overheat that a good PCI network will reduce.

A:RJ45 connectors

With the order of continuity being different on each end, it isn't possible you used the same order on both ends. The problem is going to be figuring out which end is wrong. Get out your magnifying glass a look closely.

My guess is that you flipped the RJ45 connector when inserting wires into one of the ends. All of the instructions I've seen tell me to hold the retainer clip downward then gives me the order in which to insert the wires, left to right. You probably did it holding the retainer clip down on one end and up on the other.

I really want to network the two with an RJ45 crossover cable, and all the instructions I've found on our illustrious internet tell me it's easy. What's the REAL way to network only two notebooks with an RJ45 crossover cable?Click to expand...

Connect one end of the cable to one notebook and the other end to the second notebook. Done; they are networked.

I assume that you really want to enable file and printer sharing; here is a "wizard" way ...

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a Windows PC other than XP or 2k Pro or newer.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2 or SP3) will be properly configured by the wizard (but make sure it is not set to “No Exceptions&#8221. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders (or drives) or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... . When sharing a printer, accept the offer to load other drivers if your other PCs have different Operating System(s).

When you first go into My Network Places there will be nothing there. The first time you click on 'View Workgroup computers' will probably result in great disappointment. It takes awhile (up to 15 minutes) before all the computers in the workgroup get up-to-date and accurate lists of the other computers. Often y... Read more

Hi,

From my wireless connection I ppoe cable instead of phone cable, so the end is an RJ45 connector, my router input for wireless is RJ11, so if i convert that RJ45 to RJ11 and connect to the router.. that should be able to project the wireless connection right??

I can't find any RJ45 TO RJ11 convertors??

Thoughts

Cheers

A:Convert RJ45 to RJ11

think that won't work .. don't know.. the internet transmitter is wireless. so I have an antenna sitting on the window, connecteed to a none wireless router which got special inputs to receive and convert the radio signal to normal internet signal. Therefore I have a ppoe network cable that comes out which I connect to my computer as a RJ45
But I want to connect that network cable to a wireless router which has an input of RJ11 (PHONE JACK) input for internet. So i need I convertor to convert the RJ45 TO RJ11.

If I do that, the router will generate its own IP address and so there will be a conflict between both routers as both will try to generate an ip address, so if i put the second router which is a Thomson TG585 to have static ip address and convert the router to a repeater, it should be able to project that internet connection signal as wireless??

Who thinks thats possible??

Hey everyone!

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I feel like it relates to networking.

I work at a chemical company and we have a peace of lab equipment; a Varian CP-3800 GC - it is a Gas Chromatograph that connects to an old computer we have sitting running Windows XP SP3 and has a NIC card in it with a BNC connector. This peace of lab equipment runs over this BNC connection.

So what I am trying to do is to migrate to a new computer; put the NIC card in the new computer running Windows 7 x64. Here are my problems though.
The BNC card manufacture, Realtek has not made drivers for Windows 7. Model of the NIC is RTL8029AS
I tried a BNC to RJ45 converter, but it seems like either the GC does not see the connection or the converter is bad, but the RJ45 lights blink but the BNC lights show no activity.

Has anyone delt with something like this before? Any ideas?

I bought an RJ45 splitter from Cables To Go. I installed it on one of the out ports on a Linksys 4-port wireless router. I have all the other ports in use, and just wanted to hook in two computers that will never be in use at the same time. One of the out pots on the splitter works fine, the other will not allow a connection. I found a website that offers instructions for building a splitter and the wiring diagram from the website matches the diagram that appears on the back of the CtoG splitter. Also, a description of the use of the homemade splitter seems to be exactly what I am trying to do. I have considered two possibilities, one being that the CtoG splitter is just bad. I also got to thinking that the wired ports on the router may already be "split". Anyone have any suggestions?

A:Rj45 splitter problem?

hmm; you would be better off geting a cheap hub.

With the 'splitter' or a hub connected to a router, there's an issue that you may not be aware of - - IP address conflicts.

A major point of a router is to ensure each device gets a unique IP address assignment (using the DHCP feature). With a splitter (or hub), all connections see all the traffic so DHCP is ineffective. The only way to still use them is to have the connected devices
manually configured for all the TCP settings.

I just need a simple on/off switch. A splitter with a switch would be fine too, I just wouldn't plug anything into the other port. I just can't find it. Please point me to someplace I can order something like this.

I have cat5e cable that has has rj45 connectors that I use for the telephone. This says it will only allow for one connection at a time but that was talking about data. Do you think it would allow two lines like a typical splitter. If not I need something cheap that would split some lines. Thanks.

I notice that Ethernet RJ45 Cat5e cables vary considerably in price - with the most expensive costing 5 times the least expensive.

Is there any real benefit to purchasing an expensive Ethernet patch cable? And if there is what is the benefit?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS30 here. Connects perfectly to the internet with wireless.

Then when I try to connect by cable, nothing. It doesn't even recognise it has been inserted.
Windows Vista, newly installed.

Drivers fully up to date, when I ask it to troubleshoot, it says plug in the cable, done that, it doesn't recognise it.

What do we think? I'm pretty sure must be dead hardware. Anyone else?

Thanks very much.#

Well, every time I just bump my cable it's get disconnected from the port.
I'm sure it's not cable. What can I do to get my RJ-45 port to be working normally? It does not even make that sound when cable is about to be plugged.

A:Bad contact RJ45 port

Have you checked the Clip on top of the cable?

My wireless router is downstairs in our living room, next to a telephone socket where it is connected (I believe the telephone connection is RJ12?). The telephone line extends up to a bedroom upstairs (cabled outside the house), where a telephone socket is presented in the bedroom.

The wireless signal doesn't reach the upstairs bedroom, I have tried Ethernet over power but the performance is average, so I had an idea. Why don't I run an Ethernet cable alongside the telephone cable, outside the house, between the two rooms? It makes sense to me. So my question is, can I buy a faceplate with an RJ12 and RJ45 socket presented, both downstairs and upstairs?

It should be noted that the socket downstairs has a test socket behind the faceplate, I am not sure if this would cause a problem? I'd rather take this route than have to install a separate RJ45 socket in each room if at all possible.

I hope this makes sense and if so, is it possible?

Thanks for reading!

A:RJ12 and RJ45 faceplate?

You can buy standard sized electrical faceplates that have one to six rectangular cutouts in them in them. The cutouts can accept snap in clips from the same manufacturer as the faceplate that contain various types of sockets. These sockets typically include RJ45, RJ11, Coaxial F, RCA Phono jacks, Phone jacks and spring loaded wire clips. There are also blank filler clips in case you are not putting jacks into all of the cutouts right away.

I don't know where you are located but many hardware and home improvement stores (Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc.) in the USA carry at least one such product line.

FYI, A typical residential phone jack in the USA is RS11 with four out of six contact positions used. The two outside contact positions are left blank. An RS12 jack is the same size as an RS11 jack but uses all six positions.

Is there really much difference in the ones for solid or stranded wire?

I have always used the same ones for either wire and never really noticed if they were for stranded or solid wire.

So, if I were to get the ones for standed wire, would it be terribly wrong to use them for solid wire too?

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7. I have been using Time Warner Internet. It worked fine until yesterday. WiFi stopped working out of the blue. When I tried, wired connection works pretty well. I do not recall any significant changes to my computer while this happened. So now I can connect to the wifi hotspot but it says "No Internet Connection". When I connect the LAN wire with the WiFi router, internet works. The moment I remove it, it says No Internet Access, although computer is connected to the hotspot and signal is very well.

The drivers are being shown as up to date in device manager.

I tried following instructions given here: http://www.wikihow.com/Repair-Winsock-and-TCP/IP
This didn't work. Problem persists.

I have been through some threads around here. This is the ipconfig output:

I've been battling this particular issue for a couple of weeks now without much success. I have a custom built desktop where my WIFI connection will deteriorate to the point where internet (and gaming over Steam, etc...) will be either painfully slow or unable to load pages at all. Windows claims throughout that I am connected to my WIFI network with internet access and good signal, even when I cannot reach any internet pages.

This problem has happened at 2 different locations (on different WIFI networks), and with 3 different WIFI adapters (TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 PCI, TRENDnet TEW-684UB USB, Edimax EW-7811Un). At both locations, I have another laptop and a phone that can connect to the WIFI network just fine. I even got a couple of the adapters to work fine on the laptop without the issue.

I've found that disabling NetBIOS seems to temporarily improve matters (I'd read elsewhere that that can cause issues), but it has not resolved the problem. Also: I'm getting DNS errors in the Windows 7 event logs:

"Name resolution for the name XXXX timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."

ipconfig results are posted below. Images of Xirrus (1) and its connection test (3) are attached. Any help is very much appreciated!

Hi All,
I have established a Virtual Wifi Miniport and would like to share my laptops internet via the Miniport. Whenever I connect my android phone with this access point, it works perfectly for a few minutes and then all of a sudden there is no internet on the phone. The phone remains connected to the laptop hotspot but the internet access is no more there. Now at this point if I disconnect the connection between my phone and the hotspot and then again try to reconnect back again, it wont even connect. The phone will keep on searching and shows connecting status but can never connect. I have tried all sorts of softwares connectify, virtual router, intel mywifi and even tried to create a hotspot from the cmd using netsh command. All the hotspots work in the exact same way intially works perfect but maybe after half an hour internet is gone. I have completed all the steps properly even changed the settings in the laptop adapter with interet access to allow other networks to connect but nothing seems to work. I have a Windows 7 Machine and my wireless adapter is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless N-100 and the drivers are up to date according to windows. I know that its a problem with my laptop/OS or something because my android phone can connect and remain connected( without losing internet ) to the connectify hotspot in my wifi enabled desktop PC.I am breaking my head over this for the past 15 days even formatted my system once but no use. Please help if you can..please!
