I lost my charger for this HP laptop/notebook and I don't know any other information about it other than the regulatory model number is TPN-113; serial # is 5CG4340JNN and Product # is G7V58AV. Can you tell me what type of laptop/notebook that I have so I can search for a charger?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.
6. I was thinking updating the BIOS, but I can't, because it wont update whi... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

Why when i put on my laptop charger laptop goes up to 80 degrees celicus It gets really hot but when i take it off it goes down

A:When putting in laptop charger, laptop goes up to 80 degrees celcius

Thats because the system "steps down" the CPU, GPU, Display brightness among other thing when the computer is running on batteries. With some tweaking you can make it run at 80 degrees all the time, but your battery wont last long. You may also notice it responds a bit better when running on mains. With regards to getting it to run cooler on mains. I have never really tried tuning a computer the other way but someone here may be able to advise. I was expecting to see AMD CPU in your specs and I would in that case say it was normal. Other than that you may have high levels of dust build-up or failed fans inside. If you know someone experienced with laptop repair you could get them to take a look and give it a clean out.

The problem still exists even after Dell repaired the laptop. It took two weeks to get the repaired laptop back from Dell.

The problem is:
When I plug or unplug the charger while playing music/video on laptop, the laptop is freezing with buzzing sound for 1-2 seconds when the laptop begins charging. Even after Dell repaired the laptop, the problem still exists.
Tried installing the updated drivers, the laptop works fine only for a short period and then after some time the same freezing with buzzing sound problem comes back.
Also, if the laptop is restarted it works fine for a while and then the same freezing with buzzing sound problem comes back.

Not satisfied with the Dell and Dell repair services.

I want to know if I can safely use it on a Acer Aspire 5742?

As I dont have the original charger for it.

The Acer says "DC Rating 19V 3.42A"

The HP charger says "Output 18.5V 3.5A"

Whenever I plug my adapter into my laptop the CPU goes straight to 95-100% and stays on it but when I take it out it goes back to normal.

A:Laptop Charger

Is this "newer charger" the battery charging circuit in your laptop or do you actually mean the power supply (AC power cord and AC to DC adapter)? If the former, did you have the work done and do you have a warranty? If the latter I suspect you got the wrong power supply.

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion g6-2244sa laptop and my charger has broken down, I was looking for another charger to buy and I came across a charger that holds 18.5v but my laptop charger that I previously used was 19.5v. Would I be able to use this charger? Will there be a change in how the laptop charges? Will it damage my laptop?

A:Can I use a 18.5v charger to a 19.5v Laptop?

Some HP laptops actually specifiy a 19.5 volt and an 18.5 volt charger as alternates but the devil is in the details. First, of course, does the "new" charger actually fit in the socket? Can we have the HP part numbers of the two chargers and we can quickly say if they are interchangeable? A new 100% compatible charger can be had for maybe $15 so I can't see any need to run a risk of damaging the laptop.

Hello, my lenovo charger broke. It charges but the wire has to be in an angle and if I move it stops charging.
I have a second charger for laptop. The charging port fits in perfect.

Here is the specs of my charger
Output 20V - 3.25 A

Specs of other charger (Really old Toshiba ~ 2007)
Output 19V - 6.3 A

A:Using a different charger for laptop?

When considering non-original laptop chargers, the voltage needs to match exactly while the current needs to be equal to the original or higher. In your case the current rating for the other charger is fine but the voltage is not correct. It's possible that the laptop has a voltage regulator inside to compensate for the lower voltage but since I have no knowledge of the inner workings of your Lenovo, I can't say whether the 19V is close enough.

i have a dell inspiron 1721 and i keep having the same problem with my charger. i get a new one, from dell.com, and it works great for a couple weeks to a month, but after that i get the same message of "the charger plugged in is not a dell 90wat charger, your operating system will run slower, please plug in a dell 90wat charger." When i got this message the first couple of times i just got a new one thinking i did something wrong, and the charger im using right now is not a dell charger, it's a knock-off one that i got for half the price on a discount website. This charger however did the same exact thing as my dell chargers, it worked great for a few weeks then gave me the message about it not being a dell 90wat charger although it is slighty different because this time it says it is plugged in but not charging.

any ideas what is wrong?

A:laptop charger help

...It's a Dell.
On that same screen it should say how to disable that message. Sometimes you have to update the BIOS to actual be able to get rid of that message or be able to use non-Dell adapters. Latest BIOS is here: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=252216

But if its not charging the battery then there could actually be an issue. Possibly with the charging circuits on the mainboard, or there's possibly something damaging the adapters, like brownouts or surges. Does the jack in the laptop seem loose?

I have a laptop in which the charger 'pin' (to plug into laptop) seems bad. It's a bit loose when I wiggle it and when in the laptop, the cord has to be positioned just right for it to charge (it seems to lean the pin to where it can charge). I'm not sure if it's the charger or the port.

The charger (call it #1) is 19V, 2.37a, 45w. I have another charger (#2) (same brand laptop, different, lesser model). The voltage specs are 19v, 1.75a, 33w.

Can I safely use charger #2 to verify weather the problem is the charger or the port for charger #1's laptop?

A:Laptop charger

If the connector from charger #2 fits correctly into the laptop in question, then yes, you can use it for troubleshooting the problem.

I was using my laptop when it suddenly shut down when I pressed FN+F8. When I restarted it, it seemed fine, but the sleep button (FN+4) not longer worked. I checked Lenovo Settings to see if something was wrong, but it said it was fine. I pressed the laptop battery icon on the taskbar and the laptop shut down again. When I restarted it again, Windows didn't load correctly, so I had to restart it again. Windows loaded the second time, but when it came back on, the Wifi no longer worked and the airplane power mode was on. I ran a Lenovo.com diagnostic, but when it was running, the screen flashed from battery power to charger power, and the laptop urged me to activate the airplane power mode, so I did. The diagnostic says everything in the laptop, so I suspect something is wrong with the charger. What should I do?

Well herro there :3, Anyways YO 8D

Im looking about for a portable charger for my TabletPC (Fujitsu Lifebook T4215) and yeah i know it's old but It works pretty well i will say abeit one big problem it has

It has HORRIFIC Battery life as in i can charge it to the full 4 bars of it's battery and it'll be smoked in about 15-20 mins, I've also got the power settings to near low (The CPU's clocking at 1GHZ now rather than 2GHZ (it's a core2duo t7200 btw) and the screens as dim as can be (I like my screens dim since i love the dark ^^) and since im wanting to travel about with it to my art studio that will kind of not suffice, and also i want to use it for enjoyment like while traveling and such.

So effectively the device i kinda want is to say a portable powerstation, And it'd be cool if it lasted upto per say 3 1/2 hours + from fully charged to near empty And as optionals too it could support nya other two laptops (Lenovo G550 and Acer Aspire 5742) And wouldn't cost me a fortune, 70? would be pretty good, But i also want quality too as this is likely to have some usage to it too.

I don't want the answer "Oh just buy a new tablet" cause i've had that thrown at me and i Don't want to invest money into ANOTHER tablet when i only just bought this one a number of months ago ^^; X),

As said the rest of it's good just not that end, And i'd also rather not take the thing with getting a new battery for it, so Pretty much as the title states, Best portable charger for und... Read more

Hi there

Another possibly better option is to get an AC inverter which you can run from a Car battery -- 12 V DC input ---220 V AC output (as you said 70 GBP I assume UK so electricity supply there (when it's actually working !!) like rest of W/N/E Europe is 220 V not 120 V). This way you can charge the laptop while driving , use the laptop "out in the field" ON MAINS !! and being a 220 V AC you could plug in two other laptops at the same time - I wouldn't actually USE 3 laptops at the same time though on the inverter as you mighty find the Car battery would run down fairly quickly.

(Charging 2 and using one would be fine though).

Here are a load of 150 W one's -- from around 12 GBP to 40 GBP well under your budget --- and to use just plug the inverter into the car cigar lighter socket and your laptop into the standard AC outlet.

Enc pic as well as a link since some people might not know what an "Inverter" is given the lack of any sort of Engineering knowledge these days in Schools etc.

This is the one I use the BESTEK (pic shown) -- as it's 300 W output and even has 2 USB slots for charging USB devices like mobile phones which charge via USB slot (not USB mini==>micro adapters are also available). I have a decent battery in my car so the 300W is fine for me.

Costs 25 GBP and I use a 3 pin ==> European 2 pin adapter as the UK has its 3 pin rather non standard system.

I'm in need of some major help here. For the past few months my laptop has been randomly charging and running on battery. My brother did something to the charger plugin and now when I plug my laptop charger into my laptop, it just won't charge. I have to spend an hour of my time every few days plugging in the charger, pulling as hard as I can on the cable and pushing something against the laptop charger to keep it plugged in so that it charges. I think that either something in the laptop is bent because I can only have it plugged in in two directions, and maybe something isn't connecting which is why I have to push so hard on the part of the charger that plugs into the laptop. I really can't afford sending it in, and when I tell my parents about it, they honestly could care less about my problem because it's not their problem or their computer. So here I am, with $5, some change, and a laptop that will soon stop being able to run because it's unable to charge. It's got to be the plugin in the laptop that's the problem, right? I have no clue how to fix this

I've had problems with my Dell Inspiron 1570 laptop not fully charging for quite some time. The battery would charge normally to about 55% and then just stop there, although the Dell Battery Meter would still say "charging".

I've done some googling and decided that my battery was dying, so I ordered a new one off ebay. This one charges normally to about 70% (or at least that's what the battery meter says), then stays there, just like the old one.
A curious thing I've noticed is that the original battery had the capacity of 5600mAh and the new one only has 4400mAh. 55% of 5600mAh, which is what the old battery was charging to, and 70% of 4400mAh for the new one, are exactly the same values (3080mAh). I have no idea what that means, but it sure is interesting.

Someone already suggested to try battery calibration. Since there was no such option in BIOS, I tried doing it manually, by draining the battery and then recharging it with the laptop powered off. I actually got a few percent less charge that way.

I'm running Windows 8.1, but I've also tried booting a live Ubuntu USB, which made no difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically what's happened is this: Recently I got the "warn me if my battery needs replacing" message on Windows, so I ordered a new one which arrived today, then I fitted it (pre-charged to 75%) and it worked perfectly.

Next I plugged in my current charger only to find that just like my previous battery, no charge is being received, and I don't mean the "plugged in, not charging" message, but rather it just simply doesn't work.

Seems like the charger is defective, but what are the odds that both the charger and the battery would fail at the same time? I've tried multiple fuses in the plug but none of them make a difference, so it's likely not the fuse either...

Hopefully it's just the charger and I can go and order a new one. If that doesn't work I'll dismantle the laptop and make sure the connection from the charging port to the motherboard is working/and is not damaged. After that, I have no clue what could be going on; the battery is fine as is the laptop itself, it just won't charge.

With all that said could someone shed some light onto what may have happened here? I'm getting the feeling that my old battery likely works fine (unless the defective charger damaged it somehow).

Hi there, newbie here,

The power jack on my toshiba 1900-305 s series laptop is damaged. The power light comes on briefly when the power cable is plugged in but then goes out after a short while without powering up the machine. I therefore need to power up the battery so that there will be enough power for me to extract the small amount of unbacked up data (family photos from a recent event etc) via a flash pen. Is there anywhere I can get a separate charger for the battery, or alternatively a pre-charged battery (anyone got the same laptop that is working and willing to sell a pre-charged battery)? This is likely to be a one off only so that I can transfer the files, I don't think the machine will be repairable or will be prohibitively expensive if it is (currently unemployed). I have inherited a tower pc to replace the laptop. I'm no techie but I can follow instructions and would not be afraid to take the back off a tower pc - laptops are a mystery to me though, but I would be willing to try if it would not damage the data on the laptop. Many thanks for any advice or help anyone can offer.

So I just bought a used HP dv7 laptop. It came with a Dell charger and was able to charge fine. I use my laptop as my home computer so its always plugged in. Since I always keep it plugged in, I removed the battery so over time it wouldnt kill the battery life.
So everything runs good, but I also like to play games on my laptop. when I do my laptop shuts off. I thought it might be my laptop crashing, but I noticed that the small light on the charger was off. I unplugged the charger from the wall socket and plugged it back in and the light came back on and my laptop powered up. The charger was very very hot. So I pointed a fan at it and played the game again, but it shut off again.
I thought it had to do with the dell charger and the HP laptop, So I bought a brand new HP charger. But it still does the same thing, the charger shuts off.

Is there some settings I have to change? or something wrong with my laptop?
I cant figure it out.

A:My laptop charger keeps shutting off?

Normally in HP Laptops the shutting off of the charger when the battery is fully charged is quite normal. Happens with my HP also but not with Dell Laptop where the charger remains always on.

Hi, my name is Ricardo and i am new to this forum.

So i have a problem with my laptop. First i have to said that before this problem occurred i could play "League of legends" at 60fps whitout problems, but when the battery was low, obviusly my fps go down, and when plugged my fps go normal. Then something happend with the fan, and I had to open the computer and there was a little piece of plastic that was obstructing the fan therefore my laptop began to get warm.
I fix that but after that, i could not play normal any game. Now when i play "League of Legends" i have to unplugged the charger when the fps starts to go down, and then my fps go normal, but when they drop i have to plugged again and so on.
I do this every single time i play in intervals of 3-5min so this starts to annoy me.
I have to said that my laptop it's not a good one, i've a Intel HD 4000 and a Corei7.

I don't know what to do, maybe it's the hardware or something else.
Please i need to know if i could do something to repair this or there is nothing i can do.

For your attention thank you.
P.S. Sorry if i have bad grammar it's not my native language.

I bought my laptop recently(about 4 months). Normaly when I connect the laptop to adapter, if the pc is charging the red LED will be on the it will be blue when the battery is fully charged. But when I was working with charger connected, suddenly the battery stopped charging. PC do not recognize the charger now. I tried to run a bios ac-adapter test but it also saying charger is not connected. I can't update BIOS because PC do not recognize the charger. The most weird thing is that the charging LED is blue. But the battery is not charging or fully charged. Now the battery is almost finished. Adapter works fine. (Checked with a different PC in same model) Any help??

A:Laptop do not recognize charger

> I tried to run a bios ac-adapter test but it also saying charger is not connected. This is a symptom of a problem with the motherboard -- either the circuitry that detects when the AC adapter is connected  has failed, or the socket on the motherboard to which the AC adapter plugs-in to is damaged -- not making proper contact with the motherboard. If the computer is still under warranty, contact HP (using the "Contact HP" hyperlnk near the bottom-left of this web-page), and get them to fix it. > I can't update BIOS because PC do not recognize the charger Correct.  When the computer is running solely on battery-power, there's a possibility of running out of "juice" during a BIOS update, resulting in "bricking" your computer.  So, the BIOS updater requires AC power. In my experience, trying to update the BIOS is *NEVER* my first trouble-shooting step.

If it has only recently started doing this then it might be a duff capacitor... is the laptop still under warranty? If so, Dell can be quite good at swapping these things out.

But, I think you've sorted this out now by getting the new adapter.

My charger started acting funny the other day my laptop wouldn't charge I plugged my charger in the port it don't seem to pick up that it is being charged , i thought maybe it was the charger. My mom went bought a charger from Walmart (not the same company charger ) it seemed to work it charged the day after it was fully charge I used it all day till my battery was about to die I got the notification saying 12% go charge your laptop so I plugged it in. It seemed to work but there was a yellow caution sign on the battery icon it wasn't charging but I was keeping the laptop on that is until I took the charger out that's when it just turned off. It is now dead when I try turn it on I see white blinking lights so I don't think it's a battery problem I just can't charge it , when I plug the Chargers none of them seemed to be working. Usually there is a orange blinking light indicating my laptop is being charged it doesn't show that when I plug the Chargers in, now my laptop is dead and I can't turn it on please I need help . side note: I tried and searched everything , and no my charging port is not lose when I plug it in, Please someone help

You need to replace it with a genuine Dell replacement adapter. Aftermarkets will NOT work on that unit.

this is urgent, I plugged my laptop in today and it wont charge. it did last night, but today its not, ive noticed it was a very loose fit today, that being said, for that exact reason i believe its the end that plugs into the computer itself. it will charge when i hold it down hard enough, but thats not good for the port. how do i fix the charger so it charges on its own again? do i need to get a new one? is there a temporary fix for this?

my computer is a toshiba Satellite L305D S5928

for a while now i have had to move the charger around so it would charge laptop, and last night it has stopped charging no matter what position i put the wire.

is it the laptop or the charger thats the problem? because green light still comes on the charger.

A:laptop charger not working.

It could be either.

If moving the plug to the computer around, without changing the angle between the cord and back of the plug too much, made the connection come and go, the problem might be in the jack or where the jack is mounted to the motherboard.

If moving the cord around, without changing the position of the plug in the jack too much, made the connection come and go, the problem might be in the cord itself. Say, like a broken internal conductor where the cord enters the back of the plug.

I'm trying to find out the original part for the charger for my Lenovo X1 Carbon i7 5500U model) which was been lost. The underside of the machine suggests either 45W or 65W, while on the box there is an entry "CPK UK Linecord45WAC", but I do not know if this refers to the 45W charger variant. I'm a bit confused if it does because I thought this machine had a 65W charger, and the cutout space for a charger inside the box seems to match the 65W size. Can anybody help?

A:What charger originally came with this X1 laptop?

According to ThinkPad X1 Carbon_3rd Gen Platform Specifications both 45W and 65W chargers will work but the latter will recharge the system faster.
Based on the  "CPK UK Linecord45WAC" on your box I'd agree that your system originally came with a 45W charger.

But after sometime (maybe a day or 2) the laptop will not recognize the charger again. Now it has occured to me 3 times. Is there a permanent solution for this..? p.s. Last time I also reloaded BIOS as suggested by Visruth. But the problem occured again..

Help! My (garbage) Gateway laptop charger is barely working. The tip, the part that you plug into the computer, is sliding in and out way too easily and has to be held in a specific position or it will not charge. I don't know what to do. I suspect it's the port within the computer that isn't working properly, but I am not sure. Please help!

Also, I guess it should be noted that my computer needs it's batter renewed, but I don't believe that it's the battery that's not letting it charge.

A:Gateway Laptop Charger

What's the exact model number and serial number and SNID number on that Gateway laptop?

Can you submit some images of what that laptop's charging port looks like?

Is that the original power adapter that came with that laptop?
