I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Everyone,This is getting pretty specific, but I'm hoping there is another random online teacher using the Canvas Learning Management System with a Lenovo laptop who has some insight on this.  I have been in touch with Canvas support, and we have figured out the problem seems isolated to Lenovo laptops, hence my inquiry here. Here is the problem: Canvas recently switched from a document viewer and grading system called crocodoc to its own propriety document viewer.  After this change, the documents when viewed through the system have fuzzy text (like a bad scanned pdf or a typewriter with ribbon ink bleed).  See attached sample screen shots for old system (clear) and new system (blurry). I'm wondering whether this problem is related somehow to the Windows 10 Intel Graphics driver update issues that was prevalent this spring (see a link here on this).  If so, is there a fix? I know this is a long shot (dealing with a specifical laptop model and a specific learning management system function) but heck...I thought I would try.  I figure someone is boiling in record heat and stuck inside eager for a technical challenge ;-). ML

Does anyone know what the pci system management bus controls? It is listed in the device manager as an unknown device with a yellow ?, With the tree expanded it is listed as a pci system management bus with a yellow !. Details show no driver installed.
I have tried to install every driver that I could find at Intel's website and those on the mobo cd with no luck.
The only problem with the system is, it will not start with the mouse plugged in. If I unplug the mouse ( intellipoint optical )
then it will boot. For some reason it doesn't appear to be removing the power to the ps2 port at shutdown because the light on the mouse is still on. I know this isn't right because I use the same mouse and software on my other system and when it is shutdown the mouse is dark.
Any suggestions on how to correct this? other than taking a hammer to it...(I'm tempted) Thanks!

System:

Tyan S2080 motherboard

1.2g Celeron

i815 chipset

AMI bios ver 1.05

Nvidia Riva 128/128ZX

Philips PSC706

256 mb ram

Windows 98se

A:PCI System Management Bus

A device with an identifier 'PCI System Management Bus' is part of the power management system of the motherboard. It does a few neat things like if you press the power button in windows instead of just turning the computer off it shuts it down first and then turns it off.
Later versions of Windows support this natively , but the original 98 does not)

The motherboard CD will usually contain a driver to support this. If you don't have this, then check the motherboard manufacturer's website.

If you can't find a driver for it, I would suggest that you go to the Intel website http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Support_Intel.asp. On the left side of this link, select "chipset software", then "Intel chipset software installation utility"....and download the Intel(R) INF installation utility located ..
Now about your PS2 mouse i belive that you either have a bad port or conflict with IRQ 12 ( used by PS2)

Hello,

Looking at my needs (listed below) it seems like a DMS may be the right solution. However I am not very sure if DMS is really the right solution and so I seek advice for experts. Important to mention that I don't have the budget for an extremely expensive solution (budget is around $15,000/-). I hope the following scenario helps you get an idea regarding my requirements:

Our organization deals with many different companies and contractors and issues various directives/notices etc. Sometimes many meetings take place as a result, and a updated status for each of the issued directive comes to light (which can be a reply from the company/contractor, a further new directive, key points discussed during the meeting and for each directive also). Now this in the worst case can go on for a long time. We would like to keep track of the status of each overall notice and then the latest status for each of the directive and the meetings that have taken place and the latest replies/status (with all the history and how many days have lapsed)....

I hope the above give you some sort of idea regarding what sort of solution will work. Yes the ideal solution will work in a LAN environment with multiple users (with different access rights) using the solution but I would not rule out the possibility of first trying a small and a single user version to say how well the solution solves our requirements. The advantage in the latter case is that the investment will be very low and if we... Read more

I've used System Restore since XP days and it's rescued me from system problems many times. So I'm a fan of the process.

My new W7 system runs on a 240GB SSD, and, of course, it's into this limited space that Windows saves the Restore Point files.

I'd prefer to store these somewhere else, like my 2TB storage drive.

I'd also like to selectively delete older Restore Points from time to time. Yes, I'm quite aware that one can control the amount of space used for this purpose, but that's not the same thing as selective deletion.

So I got quite excited when I saw an app called 'System Restore Manager' on the Window's Club website, that purported to fulfill those two requirements. Sadly, it didn't work. Turns out, the developer disappeared before he got the bugs ironed out. No personal system restore, perhaps?

My questions then, are:
Is it actually possible to control where Windows 7 stores its Restore Point files?
Is it actually possible to selectively delete individual Restore Points?

Or is it just just pie in the sky?

Helpful answers only, if you don't mind.

A:System Restore Management: Is it actually possible?

UVK can delete any selected system restore point. I hesitate to recommend it just for deleting them because it also does a whole lot more stuff that can screw up your system if not used correctly.
I don't use system restore as it's never been 100% reliable and it only monitors certain files and folders hence there are no system restore points shown in the screenshot. If they exixt they are listed and can be individually deleted.

RE: Moving restore points. Not sure about that one. The way windows works it's probably set to look for system restore points on each monitored drive so I don't see how it would find those if moved elsewhere.

RE: TheWindowsClub System Restore Manager. It always worked for me in the past when I used to keep system restore enabled. What's the problem with it?

Thank you

Not sure about the notification - but you can easily sync both Windows and linux machines to an ntp server pretty easily. If it starts to drift it'll re-sync itself on a schedule.

Way over my head, here.
Trying to learn.

So, here's your opportunity to
show off your expertise!

Installing a new board - 2nd time,
but this one is way more complicated
than the last one which was a number
of years ago.

The instructions show how to enable or disable
the SMBus 2.0 via jumpers, default is disabled.

From what I've found on it, enabling it will allow
a device to tell the board or board system about
itself? Is that a basically correct interpretation?

Next, would it not be good if that were enabled?

How does one tell whether a device is set up for
that or not? Or is there such a thing as being
set up or not being set up for that?

Also talks about the option of connecting an
"SMBus Management Device" - pray tell, just
what IS that? Any what's the benefit?

Appreciate you sharing your wisdom!

A:System Management Bus & Devices?

SMBus means System Management Bus, it is used in PCs for BIOS operations and other services. like many modern technogies, it was invented by intel in the 90's.

you want to leave it enabled. it is automatic and there's nothing you need to worry about/do.

An sfc scan has revealed that the "titled" dll is corrupt in one of my pc's. The store copy is corrupt as well.
Being a chief component of the Windows Power Shell, this would be something to fix quickly.

I deciphered the CBS log, but still cannot figure out its' location from there.
From Google searches ideas; it's not @:
windows\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v2.0 or v1.0 (This folder doesn't exist)
or:
Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\WindowsPowerShell\v2.0 or v1.0
(This folder doesn't exist either)

I was hoping to extract from W7 install disc and place it in wherever store is and wherever it exists on my machine.

A:System.Management.Automation.dll

You really shouldn't extract manually, because these files are actually linked and tracked in the side-by-side (WinSxS) store. The best way to get it back (if you do have that Windows installation disc) is to run sfc /scannow from an elevated cmd prompt and let it fix it (and put the proper files back), and any other issues with protected files that might exist on that system.

The tutorial on sfc is here:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hi, I'm desperately looking for something I need for my startup. I have a payroll business and am wanting to expand to include online payroll features for my website. I use WYSIWYG Web Builder to create and edit my website. I have no coding experience so I need either a 3rd party software or website to help me out, or someone I can pay a fee to complete this for me.

1. I want them to be able to create an account on the website. Then they can see their personal profile page.
2. I don't need them to add all of their information to create the website, but after the account is created, I need them to fill out the rest of their information.
3. Then I need them a page to add, edit, delete and view all of their employees. And maybe a table or something for the user to enter the hours for each employee and then can hit a submit button. The data can just be sent to me via e-mail or by being connected to an excel spreadsheet that is updated when they submit their data.

That's all I pretty much need. I know it's going to require a database for that information to be stored and retrieved. I know that the pages will have to have a good amount of security and protection as it will have private data stored on these pages and in these databases.

I know WYSIWYG has a user login system but it's rather simple for what I need. Is there someone rather cheap that can work with me on building this or is there an open source software or something similar that I can use ... Read more

Hi all
I was wondering if I could get any advice from you nice people.

I am going to apply to do a Masters in Information Systems Management and I am trying to come up with a topic. As I am a teacher, what I have in mind is a Management Information System for a school.

Essentially what the system would have would be:

1. Students own E-mail Accounts
2. Printer Networks
3. Shared Drive for Teachers to put notes on an Intranet

I am not sure where to start. The idea is that every Student will have a user Name and password to log into computers in the school. Then they could access their files from any computer.

I have been doing some research and what I think I have to do is:

1. set up a database for students/staff.
2. design a website for students to log onto e-mail
3. set up a mini-network with a server and 3 or 4 clients

I would have to source some software for setting up the email accounts and printer networks. I am told I can get some open source software for these. Anyone got any idea. Any help would be much appreciated...

I think I posted this in other hardware forum by mistake............tried to delete it but don't know how...........sorry :-(

A:Management Information System

Do you have a budget?

Because, first off i would say:
Windows 2003 server and create a Domain Controller
XP pro on clients, put desktops on domain
Data stored on server
Exchange server for email
Printers easily networked
Clients access server and resources by logging in to their active directory account, thus allowing them to log into their profile from any desktop.

This help?

Pretty much none. Drivers short of video drivers (and usually only in limited cases) very seldom improve performance. You want to improver performance you're going to have to look elsewhere; faster CPU, more ram, faster video card, SSD, etc.

I have been using CMSimple content management software for a number of years without a problem. I hav recently set Chrome as my default browser and find hat I cannot oen the Editing section of the CMS website. It still works fine on IE and Firefox but not Chrome. I can't understand why this is. Any ideas please? Not a desperate problem as I still have IE and FF to fall back on.

A:Using Chrome and a Content Management System

i use chromeplus - a browser based on chrome but with a couple of extra features.

the most useful extra is 'ietab' - you have a button that can switch a tab from the chrome rendering engine to using the internet explorer trident engine, so the page in the tab will behave just as if it were ie8. it can also remember this, so everytime you go to the page, it will display in 'ie' mode.

it also does mouse gestures and 'superdrag' - highlight a bit of text and drag it, and a new tab appears with a google search on your text.

it also claims to protect your privacy more than the standard chrome.

I have just sealed the deal on my first computer where I picked the parts, expert assembled, now beginning to install the software for Motherboard , graphics card etc.

I have a tendency to start with a few Master Folders for Word Docs, Pics, and other items. If the document I look for is fairly current there is a good chance I will find it. Other wise after a while I will have a sea of folders most with layers of subfolders, making things hard to find. Of Course with photo shop there are multiple copies of pictures.

What I really need is a great (preferably free) Personal Document Management System software application.

I have completed a preliminary Google search and one looks as good as the other so far. With Malware being everywhere, I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with any such software.

Thank You for reading my note.

Hello, everyone,

I am on the board of directors of a state council. We are looking into getting a data management system for memberships et al. Currently we use spreadsheets to keep track of things, but are thinking it may be more efficient to use something like Wild Apricot. Our Administrative Assistant may not be terribly knowledgeable with data management programs, so could someone tell me if Wild Apricot would be a good choice? Has anyone actually used it? Is it difficult to figure out? There is a free trial, but we hate to waste time with it if it is generally considered complicated as these things go and so far as I can tell, there is only a forum in which to get help with the software usage, so I wanted to get some opinions. Also, I understand it will integrate with WordPress, which is what our website is built on, though I'm not sure we will utilize that....if I am understanding what that actually does.....could someone comment on what advantages it might give to have a portal to a membership access area on our website?

If looking at our website will help with understanding what we need, you can find it here:

What is system reserved used for and why do I need it if I already have a Recovery partition setup By Acer Aspire 7741Z?

A:Disk management - system reserved

The one on the left, 14.65 GB, is needed should you want to restore to factory specifications like the day you got the PC. If you make a set of recovery disks that can do the same thing, you might consider getting rid of this partition. Otherwise, keep it.

The system reserved partition contains your boot files and should be left alone. It's very small anyway. You can get rid of it if you want to after transferring your boot files to C, but why bother?

I have installed a new hard drive and installed a new XP Pro on it. I kept the old XP Home for some time untill I'm happy with the new installation. The old XP Home was on drive C and the new XP Pro is on drive E. I am now ready to reclaim drive C disk space and tried formatting it. However, it appers as the "system" drive, while the new HD (E) appears as "boot". I realized I wont be able to format it until I make E drive system and boot together (which usually appears as "system"). Eventually, I would prefer that the new disk will be labeled C.

I've searched the web for some answers, but couldn't find exactly what I need. I found a solution for changing the system drive to be also a boot drive (http://www.dcr.net/~w-clayton/Changing the system partition.htm), but not the other way around. Some people claim that boot drive must be always drive C, but this sounds wrong.

In regards to changing system/boot drive letters, Microsoft provides a solution, but strongly discourages doing it except for the case of restoting it to it's value at installation time (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223188).

I'll appreciate any insights.

A:XP Disk Management - boot/system drives

Whats happened it that Windows always has a reliance on drive C: for containing the MBR (master boot record). You'll find if you try and remove the drive, Windows will no longer boot even though it's installed on the drive still in the machine.

You can probably format the drive using a boot disk and then using the Windows recovery console to fix the MBR and boot.ini.

It's going to cause a lot of problems changing the drive letter however. You can probably change the drive letters and it may even boot, but you'll have major headaches with installed apps and other system things that it wouldn't be worth it.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? NO
- an OEM or full retail version? Promotional Upgrade - equivalent to Full Retail
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 2 years in July
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Current is <1 year; system was restored to factory settings prior to installation of OS due to original installation in December '09 being badly botched.

Other details: HP Pavilion dv3-1075us; system is 7 Home Premium, was built with Vista Home Premium

BSOD occurred when I attempted to put my PC into Sleep Mode. New hardware installation includes a Mini Bluetooth 2.1 USB Adapter (Iogear GBU421). Prior observed problems include occasional failure to detect the onboard Realtek PCIe Ethernet Adapter; has occurred once prior to installation of Iogear GBU421.

I just installed a new Hitachi HDD and restored my disc image to it. My original disk had three partitions, the pqservice partition, the active OS partition (C drive) and a data partition (D drive). But I only chose to restore the OS and the data partitions. Now when I view the new disk via disk management, the labeling of the active partition is unusual; there is no volume name listed nor file system, and the free space is shown as 100%. Also, the status shows an EISA configuration.

However, under explorer properties for the drive, things look a bit different, with the label and system type correct.

What is causing the discrepancy and how to remedy it?

Thanks.

I just now also noticed that I no longer have 4gb of ram... I haven't removed anything, but only 2gb are showing in system properties and in the BIOS???

Hi guys,

having a bit of trouble! I am trying to install the "NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management" driver and it goes through all the steps, but when I reboot and do a scan with "Driver Checker" it tells me that the driver is out of date. I run Windows 7, which might have to do with the problem. I'm not exactly sure what a PCI System Management is good for but my internet runs very slow and I have a pretty good spec on my computer. Unfortunately I didn't buy the computer from a certain manufacturer (e.g dell, etc.) but rather made up.

Hope some one can help - have already sent the computer back and all they did was insert a stronger processor - the only thing that that helped with wass with the BSOD (BlueScreen), but otherwise the internet runs super slow!!!

Cheers

Jonny

Welcome to seven forums.IMO driver checker and similar programs are designed to find something wrong or else how would they sell you the program? My suggestion woulld be to go to your motherboard makers site and make sure you have the latest chipset drivers installed. This is a 8200sm though. Still uses the 15.45 nvidia Nforce driver. This should help. also are their any problematic devices in device manager> Yellow triangels on devices? ECS Web Site the 15.45 they reccomend here http://downloads.guru3d.com/nForce-1...load-2356.html Pleas post back with results. Or you can try the latest from Nvidia 15.49 http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_...bit_15.49.html Thanks
Fabe (edit) the only model I could find is the GF8200SM-M3 V1.0 http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Pro...nuID=1&LanID=9 If you have the link to the exact model please post it but i think they most likely use the same chipset, but could be wrong. If you could copy and paste a view of your device manager that could be of some use also.

If there isn't sufficient space on the backup drive to save a System Image, will Windows delete an existing System Image in order to make room?
Does it make a difference whether you've selected "Keep only the latest system image and minimize space used by backup" compared to "Let Windows manage the space used for backup history"?
Assuming that there's only one saved System Image and "Keep only latest" has been selected, if Windows creates a new System Image before deleting the old one (which I suppose is the safer course of action), then the minimum size needed for the
backup drive is some delta more than two times the expected size of a System Image.  Is that correct?
